A DEFINITION!!!!! Mass media  is those means of communication that reach and influence large numbers of people, especially newspapers, popular magazines, radio, and television.  The term was coined in the  1920s  with the advent of nationwide radio networks, mass-circulation  newspapers  and  magazines . Mass media includes Internet media (like  blogs ,  message   boards ,social networks  podcasts , and  video  sharing ).

WHY SHOULD WE STUDY THE  MEDIA?
1.  THEY ARE  ALL AROUND US Nowadays we are surrounded by all types of media. We wake up through radio stations in our alarm clocks, we surf the Internet and tones of ads appear, we can hardly avoid it.
2.  THEY ARE  MASSIVE. A Newspaper can sell 700.000 issues in one day;  a TV programme can be watched by millions of people at the same time!!
3. THEY  MEDIATE. News reporting is not immediate.  The relationship between the news and the audience is not direct. There is not communication  between the source and the receiver, there’s no feedback .
