 INTRODUTION
 DEFINATION
 HISTORY
 NEW AND OLD MEDIA
 TYPES OF MEDIA
 ADVANTAGES
 DISADVANTAGES
 ROLE OF MEDIA
 The term media, which is the plural of medium, refers to
the communication channels through which we disseminate
news, music, movies, education, promotional messages and
other data. It includes physical and online newspapers and
magazines, television, radio, billboards, telephone, the Internet,
fax and billboards.
 The main means of mass communication (broadcasting,
publishing, and the internet) regarded collectively.
 By early in the 17th century, the first newspapers appeared but,
because few people were literate, readership was limited.
 As more people learned to read and write the reach of mass media
grew. By the early 1800s, high circulation newspapers such as The
Times of London were developing huge readerships.
 High-speed rotary printing presses churned out large volumes and
the development of railways made for wide distribution.
 The arrival of photography changed the media scene.
 n 1862, Matthew Brady held an exhibition of photographs he had
taken of the U.S. Civil War. Shocked Americans stood and stared at
Brady’s images of the dead at the Battle of Antietam. The New York
Times noted that Brady brought “home to us the terrible reality of war.”
 By late in the 19th century, new technology allowed newspapers to
print photographs.
 OLD MEDIA
 Traditional media refers to
non-digital advertising and
marketing strategies, including:
 TV ads
 Radio ads
 Print advertising, like
newspapers and magazines
 NEW MEDIA
 New media, also referred to
as digital media, is made up of
digital strategies that involve the
internet in some way, including:
 SEO (search engine
optimization)
 Direct mail
 Billboards
 Cold-calling
 Door-to-door sales
 Banner ads
 Pay-per-click advertising
 Content marketing
 Social media marketing
 Email marketing
 Print Media (Newspapers, Magazines)
 Broadcast Media (TV, Radio)
 Outdoor or Out of Home (OOH) Media.
 Internet.
 Print media is one of the oldest and basic forms of mass
communication.
 It includes newspapers, weeklies, magazines, monthlies and other
forms of printed journals
 A basic understanding of the print media is essential in the study of
mass communication
 The contribution of print media in providing information and transfer
of knowledge is remarkable.
 . Even after the advent of electronic media, the print media has
not lost its charm or relevance.
 Print media has the advantage of making a longer impact on the
minds of the reader, with more in-depth reporting and analysis.
 Broadcast media involves electronically and simultaneously sending
information containing signals, print messages and audio or video
content to a vast group of recipients using television, radio,
newspapers, magazines and digital media including the Internet,
emails and texts.
 But it still has a major part to play in getting exposure of ideas,
products, services, news and information out to a mass audience.
 Information travels along a communications network, locally,
regionally, nationally and internationally.
.
 out-of-home (OOH) advertising, also called outdoor
advertising, outdoor media, and out-of-home media, is
advertising experienced outside of the home.
 This includes billboards, wallscapes, and posters .
 It also includes place-based media seen in places such as
convenience stores, medical centers, salons, and other brick-and-
mortar venues.
.
 The Internet (or internet)] is the global system of
interconnected computer network that uses the Internet por tocal
suite (TCP/IP) to communicate between networks and devices.
 It is a network to network that consists of private, public,
academic, business, and government networks of local to global
scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical
network technologies.
 It is also called as social media.
 Here are some social media app . Which people use to
communicate with each other
 Facebook , Instagram and Twitter etc.
 It educates individuals. People get to know regarding health problems,
environmental protection, and more via television and radio programmes.
 In a very short period of time, citizens get the latest information.
Distance does not constitute an obstacle. Via the newspapers, individuals
get information every day and this makes everyone updated on the
current events.
 People have to bring their secret talents. In the media, their skills like
acting, comedy and singing are demonstrated.
 The awareness in children is growing. From quiz programmes,
animal programmes, and so on, children will understand.
 Radio is useful as individuals obtain brief news and can reach it via
a cell phone and many more.
 It contributes to individualism. On the website and watching tv,
people waste too much time.
 As a consequence, it is affected by social interactions with friends,
relatives and neighbors.
 Some content in the media is not appropriate for children.
 It can be tough to restrict children’s access to certain stuff.
 Papers are geographically limited.
 Increased advertisements on TV and radio makes them less
interesting.
 The Internet opens up the possibilities of fraud, theft and hacking
as a type of entertainment
 Media plays a crucial role in shaping a healthy democracy. It is the
backbone of a democracy.
 Media makes us aware of various social, political and economical
activities happening around the world. It is like a mirror, which shows us
or strives to show us the bare truth and harsh realities of life.
 Television and radio have made a significant achievement in educating
rural illiterate masses in making them aware of all the events in their
language
 Coverage of exploitative malpractices of village heads and
moneylenders has helped in taking stringent actions against them by
attracting government attention.
 The media also exposes loopholes in the democratic system, which
ultimately helps government in filling the vacuums of loopholes and
making a system more accountable, responsive and citizen-friendly. A
democracy without media is like a vehicle without wheels.
