5. The use of colour
Blue - Blue provides a sense of
security, curbs appetite, and
stimulates productivity. The most
common colour used by conservative
brands looking to promote trust in
their products. By doing this
Marshmello is seen as wanting his fan
to trust the content that is being
produced as well as stimulating
productivity within his fans making
them want to be more creative.
Yellow - The colour yellow is a
spontaneous and unstable colour. It is
often associated with food and is
highly used in children’s products and
marketing advertisements aimed at
children. Perceived as a childish
colour by men, yellow is not a colour
that should be used when marketing
products to prestigious or wealthy
men. By using yellow Marshmello
shows how his product is creative and
for young adults to enjoy as it is fun
loving and fits in with pop culture.
6. The use of 360 degree music videos
360 videos are best watched on a Chrome browser or the YouTube
app on your mobile. You can manipulate the screen, either through
the movement of the head and body if you’re wearing a virtual
reality headset, or using your cursor to move around the screen .
Marshmello uses this on his website as a way of interacting with his
fans. The 360 degree video is used to make the audience feel like
they are watching the artist live. By including interactive elements
Marshmello is building a better relationship with his audience.
7. Neale - Identified genres by their use of
audience expectations and common
conventions. Particular features which are
characteristic of a genre are not normally
unique to it; it is their relative prominence,
combination and functions which are
distinctive (Neale, 1980); ‘Genres are
instances of repetition and difference‘
(Neale, 1980); ‘Difference is absolutely
essential to the economy of genre' (Neale,
1980) - Mere repetition would not attract
an audience. Therefore Marshmello using
interactive elements makes the website
different which is essential when compared
to other artists regularly.
8. Marshmello Website Analysis
Marshmello uses his website as a way of developing a
relationship with his audience through releasing new
information about possible tour dates or new music as
well as having interactive elements such as a 360 degree
video making the website overall unique and different.
This would also fit his brand identity which is unique and
different due to the DJ having no real self identity as he is
anonymous.
