Skilling V. US
The background of this case, Skilling V.S U.S is all based around the company called Enron. Enron
Corporation was an American energy based company in Houston, Texas and it was said to be one of
the biggest scandals in history, but it was once known as the largest companies, one of the seventh
largest corporation to be exact in history. The company was founded in 1985 by Kenneth Lay and
Jeffrey Skilling. Enron had over 20,000 people working there, when Enron became bankrupt, people
lost their jobs and about 2,000,000 dollars in employment retirement funds were lost. When Enron got
started it was an natural gas and electricity company was produced, transmitted and sold by state
regulated monopolies. Enron had used Wall Street to move energy supplies into financial instruments
that could be traded online like stocks and bonds. These contracts told and guaranteed customers a
steady supply at a predictable price. (citation)Which was the lie behind it. They started losing money
and getting debt, so instead of them telling the truth they had hid the losses through accounting tricks
because they did not want Enron s stock prices to go down. Enron s downfall was in Houston, Texas
where Enron poured billions of dollars into trading ventures, and some of them had failed. It ... Show

as a result of Enron s wrongdoings, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) standards were
strengthened to stop the use of questionable accounting practices, and more accountability was

Our Country s Good
Our Country s Good by Timberlake Wertenbaker
Our Country s Good, a play by Timberlake Wertenbaker, is about a group of English convicts bound
for Australia by sea in 1788. In the first scene, Sideways, a convict on board the ship, is being brutally
whipped and we are introduced to the constant, overwhelming fear, hunger and despair that the
convicts are going through.
We are also introduced to all the officials on board. They are debating the punishment of hanging that
three of the convicts have received for stealing, and we see the different attitudes different characters
have to this. Governor Arthur Phillip supports a humane approach to dealing with the convicts, but
Judge David Collins believes that the law must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Captain Phillip inspires Clark to go on. In the second rehearsal Robbie Ross is causing
disruption yet again, however, as the convicts begin to act regardless, Ross finds himself impressed
and any further impediments cease.
Liz Morden is sentenced to hanging as a result of accusations of her stealing. She asks Harry Brewer
to tell Ralph Clark, after she is hanged, that she was innocent all along, so that he knows the truth.
However, Harry suffers a stroke and collapses at this point, after having been mentally ill for quite a
while. He dies that night, with
Duckling by his side.
The officers debate Liz s sentence. Captain David Collins does not support the verdict as he states that
there is only circumstantial evidence and Liz refused to verify or speak up about any part of the
situation. However, Robbie Ross still considers her guilty. Liz Morden is then brought in and the
officers urge her to talk for the good of the colony ... and of the play . Liz does indeed speak
eventually, and she is found innocent. Therefore The Recruiting Officer goes on as well. Finally, the
performance night comes. The convicts different aspirations are revealed, with Dabby wanting to
escape back to her beloved Devon, Wisehammer wanting to become a writer and Sideways planning
to start a theatre company in Australia. There is a sense of triumph among the convicts as Ralph Clark

The Success and Intentions of Galileo Essay
Galileo has been depicted variously as a cynical opportunist, patient genius or lucky engineer, and dies
a coward or a modern Socrates. I agree that he is a patient genius, and lucky engineer, but I do not
agree that he is a cynical opportunist, coward or a modern Socrates.
Galileo was a mathematician and a natural philosopher, who converted Copernicanism, which states
that the earth revolved around the sun, into philosophy and the world s true nature. By introducing
new knowledge and using science to prove existing theories, he had caused a revolution by changing
how people perceive the world during the last few hundred years and to doubt the authority of the
Church, so as to spur on more people to confront the Church s interpretations ... Show more content

So, although he had his own thinking and ideas, he waited fir the right opportunity to voice them out
to minimize conflicts with the church, thus he was a patient genius.
He was a lucky engineer. Through his hard work, he achieved great results from observing the stars,
and applied math, scientific knowledge, and his own thinking in coming up with proofs that the
universe was heliocentric and other theories such as Jupiter had moons orbiting it too, defying the old
science that the Church was insisting on that the Earth was the center of the universe. He was also
lucky because his hard work had paid off when he gained fame and prestige from publishing his book.
If he had not done so, he might not have the motivation and opportunities to pursue the truth in
knowledge later on and might not have caused a revolution to occur. Many coincidences occurred, like
him getting famous, Baberini becoming the Pope, that allowed him to become what he is today. Thus,
he was a lucky engineer.
Like Socrates, he opposed the main ruler of the time, in Socrates case it was Athens, and in Galileo s
case, it was the Church. Socrates was found guilty of impiety sentenced to forced suicide, but he
actually wished for his death. He had the opportunity to run away, but he did not, as he believed that a
true philosopher do not fear death, and he wanted to uphold Athens law. Galileo was charged with

The Lord Of The Flies And The Cold War Essay
The primary conflict in The Lord of the Flies is a portrayal of the strife between democracy and
communism during the Cold War. The Cold War was the result of World War Two, where both
America and Russia wanted to gain influence in the recently ravaged Europe and beyond. America
wanted to continue to globalize and create a capitalist world of free trade, while the Soviets wanted to
spread their influence by establishing communistic proxy states, and form a barrier between
themselves and the capitalistic west. Although the Cold War may have started in Europe, it spread
across the world, into Asia, South and Central America, and the Middle East. The ideologies of the

Dostoyevsky ‘Notes from Underground’ Critique Essay
Notes from Underground was published in 1864 as a feature presentation of his first 1860 issue The
Epoch . Notes from Underground was written by the author during a time when he faced many
challenges in his life. Dostoyevsky faced failure in the publishing of his first journal Time , his
financial position was becoming weaker and embarrassing. Moreover, his wife was dying and his
conservatism was eroded leading to a decline in his popularity with the liberal reading Russians and
consequently, he became the focus of attack by the radical and liberal press (Fanger 3). Therefore, this
research seeks to find how the author presents the aspect of underground man and how he approached

By the time the author had completed writing Notes from Underground the society had moved to
liberalism and abandoned reasoning and enlightenment (Frank 35). This is clearly represented in this
novel since by the end, as the author concluded that there was more to man than enlightenment and
reasoning.
The underground man is an educated, literate, forty year old financially stable man, who, lives in a
modern society. As the novel progresses, the underground man remembers the days he used to work
without any affection. The man lives now alone in a place described as unattractive where he is
completely cut off from friends and family (Fanger 5). This situation provides an indication of the
troubles underground man is going through for they do not arise from work, money problems or the
lack of social interaction opportunities. This man has money, is educated and has plenty of social
interaction opportunities but he d rather remain in his solitude, Dostoevsky shows that in all respect
the man has reached enlightenment (Frank 36).
The problems of underground man are all concerned with what is happening to him from the inside.
This man is suffering from a disease that arises from his lack of feeling completely healthy. Though
the novel has depicted many medical discussions on doctors, liver problems, medicines, the real
disease is emotional distress. The entire first section of the book is about how emotionally troubled the

College Campuses and Sexually Transmitted Infections Essay
College campuses have seen a rise, in the epidemic of Sexually transmitted diseases. Sexually
transmitted diseases have quickly become a household name amongst Americans. The dangers and
health issues related to acquiring a STD has been the reason why more attention has been brought to
the STD epidemic. The reason for this attention is to hopefully, slow down the rate of STD S amongst
students. There is a very astonishing fact stated by the Agape Pregnancy Resource Center, Nearly 80%
percent of people that are infected with STD s do not know it. ( Agape Pregnancy Resource Center )
The use of condoms, knowing your status, and the practice of abstinence are very effective ways of
avoiding contracting STD s. If we do not make students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some may ask but condoms are latex and I m allergic to latex, what should I do? There is to be no
worries, condoms are also made with other material for people who are allergic to latex, therefore
there is no excuse for not protecting yourself. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention states
Laboratory studies have demonstrated that latex condoms provide an essentially impermeable barrier
to particles the size of STD pathogens. ( Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ) Thus aiding in
the reason why condoms are so important, to maintain healthy sex life s. Next, a very useful way to
stay STD free is to know your status. Most students today have no clue they are infected and
unknowingly pass it on to partners or spouses. The government has made available health clinics
where check up s to know your status on STD s are free. Clinics are also places where treatment can
be given, if a certain STD is found and is treatable. Many students are embarrassed or scared to know
their status and would rather just live their lives, not knowing their status. This mindset among
citizens is very selfish, which can lead to the danger of others. In the sense of a woman knowing her
status, she will be able to determine if birth is still an option if a certain STD has affected her fertility.

Disney Corporttion´s Negative Influence in Children via...
What started out as cartoon shows such as Mickey Mouse has now changed into a profit driven
corporation. With TV shows, movies, clothing lines, toys, CDs, books, and theme parks, Disney is
creating billions in revenue. However, the profits are at the cost of the youth. One way the youth are
being harmed is children are absorbed in watching television shows that Disney plays daily. The
amount of time spent watching television has increased in the years, while the amount of time spent
playing games outside has decreased. Because of this, health issues in children have risen, especially
in the United States. Also, children begin to idolize the child actors from the shows on Disney such as
Miley Cyrus in Hannah Montana . Although some actresses are good role models, most usually are
not. Child actors are more likely to develop drug addictions, alcohol addictions, and eating disorders
than an average teenager. Not only are the child actors harmed from being put into a crazy lifestyle,
the children who idolize these actors are harmed as well. Therefore, Disney s influence on the youth is
harmful and should be limited. Obesity and other health issues are become a problem for the youth in
America. While poor diets contribute greatly to the problem, there are other factors as well, for
instance, lack of exercise or physical activity. With numerous television shows for children of all ages,
more time is spent inside, watching these shows than outside running around playing tag or

Call Of Conscience In Les Miserables
The following section connects Hyde s acknowledgment concepts: call of conscience, reconstruction,
calculating thought, as well as, social death with select scenes from the novel Les Misérables in order
to prove that stories teach people how to live a fulfilling life. ...the future is constantly calling us to
acknowledge and make use of our response ability for making thoughtful decisions about how to build
and live a meaningful life (Hyde, 2006, p. 49). Again, this paper argues that Les Misérables teaches
people the communicative lesson of acknowledgment, specifically, call of conscience, reconstruction,
calculative thought, and social death which explain how people can live responsible and meaningful
lives.
Call of conscience: Les Misérables does an excellent job at projecting what call of conscience means,
specifically, when Jean Valjean saves Fauchelevent from being crushed under a carriage.
Fauchelevent calls out where art thou?, help, cried old Fauchelevent. Who is a good fellow to save an
old man? (Hugo, 2003, p. 109). Everyone is standing around leaving poor Fauchelevent to die. Valjean
tries to find an alternative way of saving Fauchelevent, such as getting a jack, but Fauchelevent would
be dead by the time it got there. Valjean informs everyone that there is enough room under the wagon
for a man to crawl under and lift the weight, but nobody [stirs] in the crowd (Hugo, 2003, p. 110).
Javert notes that fearsome men are needed to lift the wagon...I have known but one man capable of
doing what you call for (Hugo, 2003, p. 110). The old man yells out that he is dying and Valjean offers
to pay someone to save Fauchelevent. Yet again, no one rises to the occasion, therefore, without
saying a word Valjean falls to his knees and saves Fauchelevent despite the fact that Javert watches
him the entire time. Valjean answers Fauchelevent s where are though which his here I am when he
saves him.
Call of conscience is the call of Being Valjean takes his courage and saves Fauchelevent because he
knows that it is the right thing to do (Hyde, 2006, p. 39). He would no longer be an honest man if he
left poor Fauchelevent to die. During a call of conscience, ones thinking and acting may not be as

Literary Symbolism In I Am Legend
I Am Legend Essay
What would a person do if their children, spouse, friends, and everything they love or ever wanted

last survivor of the human race, who wants to have companionship, but the growing population of
vampires makes his dream impossible. Meanwhile, Neville defends himself from the growing vampire
plague by killing the infected vampires. He receives his wish of companionship when a woman named

For example, Oliver Hardy is compared to Ben Cortman to express his physical appearance and

plump, that was all. Even the mustache was there now. (p.35) Cortman is being compared to Oliver
because the author gives Ben a sense of humor in the novel along with similar appearances like
Cortman s mustache. Another allusion Richard Matheson uses is referring a woman named Ruth from
the bible to the character Ruth in the novel. Ruth is displayed in the bible as a woman who
demonstrates loyalty to her husband, works in the field, and is from a different society than the people
around her. In comparison, Ruth from I Am Legend does her work in the field when she spies on
Neville, demonstrates loyalty to Neville by warning him that his life is being threatened, and is

Essay On Pitt
To what extent was Pitt s repressive policy the main reason for his success in resisting the radical
challenge to 1801? The growing threat of revolution by English radicals being influenced by Irish
rebels and the French Revolution was the main thing William Pitt the younger was faced with during
his time as Prime Minister. To deal with this, he reinforced a repressive policy of tough legislation
strengthened through propaganda. It was not only these actions taken that managed to quell the
revolutionaries from revolting. Other than the actions taken by Pitt, there was discordance between the
radicals, also the loyalist reaction sparked by the war in France; these are only a few reasons amongst
many. It was the contribution of factors that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This response to the war helped Pitt, as he was trying to prevent revolution from happening in Britain.
There was a loyalist riot in 1794 in Manchester where chants about church and kings were to be heard,
subsequently Church and King clubs formed. The loyalists advertised their cause through pamphlets
that supported the king. Suppport for the king spread, the government were extremely happy with the
outcome, they even allowed and encourages a loyalist militia to form and by 1800 there were 100,000
members. This show of support for the king that followed the war with France was a strong opponent
against the radicals. Problems within the radicals caused a divide in their goals and the path they
thought was necessary to take to reach them. This could be seen when looking at some of the radical
groups. Disunity in cause could be seen by looking at two figures that were part of the radical
movement; Tom Paine focused solely on men s rights, whilst Mary Wollstonecraft focused on rights
for women. The London Corresponding Society believed in achieving their goals peacefully, however
the Society for Constitutional Information s leader (John Jebb) believed that public agitation was the
most effective way of reaching their goals. This lack of unity of cause and ways of achieving their
aims considerably weakened the radical movement. Another factor that

simply talking with customers about their options. Individuals who come into the courthouse at the
Law Library are self represented litigants. These people do not have the funds for a lawyer to help
them and are doing everything on their own. Many times they are overwhelmed, upset, angry, and
confused about what to do. The purpose of interns being at the court is to help them through their

Puerto Rican Culture
The term Hispanic refers to people who are capable of speaking and comprehending the Spanish
language, and whose ancestry identifies with the Hispanic culture. The three main Hispanic groups in
the United States are Cubans, Mexicans, and Puerto Ricans. Puerto Ricans are people who identify
themselves as Hispanics of Puerto Rican origin, meaning they were either born in Puerto Rico, or have
family ancestry that traces back to Puerto Rico. According to Lopez Patten (2015), in 2013, Puerto
Ricans were the second largest Hispanic origin population living in the United States, accounting for
9.5%. This population continues to grow. In fact, between 1980 and 2013, the Puerto Rican population
in the United States had increased by 56% (Lopez Patten, 2015). Puerto Rican culture is unique, and
quite complex. To gain knowledge and a better understanding of the Puerto Rican culture, I attended
the Puerto Rican Festival held in Milwaukee, and conducted an interview with Melinda Nieves, a
Puerto Rican woman living in Appleton. Through these experiences, I found that Puerto Rican culture
is centered around language, family, and religion, as well as music and delicious food.
Language in the Puerto Rican Culture One of the first things I noticed while attending the Puerto
Rican Festival was the language differences (2017). Most people spoke Spanish, and Spanish seemed
to be their preferred language over English. At the festival, it was difficult to communicate. People

The History of LG
LG was born as the Lak Hui Chemical Industrial Co. in 1947. It was founded by Mr. In hwoi Koo for
the manufacture of cosmetic creams. Finding that there were no independent manufacturers capable of
supplying bottle caps needed for packaging the cream, Lak Hui Chemical set up its own facilities and
utilized the excess capacity of its injection molding machines to manufacture small consumer products
based in plastic. This led to an entry into the manufacture of plastics components for
telecommunication and electrical companies presaging LG s entry into the telecommunications
business. In fortifying its access to feedstock for plastics manufacture, the company moved into oil
refining and later into shipping to transport crude oil. It was in 1958 that the Goldstar Co. (currently
LG Electronics) was first established to consolidate expansion in the fast growing area of plastics.

Makena Tongg Woodall Saculla, 1:30 Traditional Hawaiian Quilting Hawaiian Quilting is a very
important part of Hawaiian culture. Hawaiian quilts are a combination of Polynesian heritage and
American quilting. The Missionaries used quilts for warmth during the winter. But Hawaiians used
them as an art form, as decoration and to express important things in their lives. Traditional quilts are
very delicate and some contain around 200,000 hand stitches. Humidity, heat, salt air and insects can
easily affect quilts. Many traditional quilts never survived and it is important to save the ones that are
still available. Hawaiians believe that the quilts contain a lot of Mana (power or spirit). On April 3rd,

Re: Clear Channel Communications Inc. acquisitions
Mr. Liggins
The recent merger between Clear Channel Communications Inc. and AMFM has presented a rare
opportunity for Radio One, Inc. The proposed divestiture of Clear Channel will be the largest in the
history of the industry. Radio One, Inc. can acquire 12 established urban stations in the top 50
markets, which rarely become available. Market analyst have already speculated on the possible
acquisition, causing Radio One s stock price to rise from the mid $40s to $97 a share! The trading

In 1999, a rare opportunity was presented to Radio One, Inc. Clear Channel Communications, Inc.
was set to merge with AMFM, creating the largest radio company in the world. Although recent
actions have relaxed the national ownership cap on the limit of stations allowed to be owned by one
entity, Clear Channel would still have to divest nearly 100 stations in 37 markets. Radio One could
acquire 12 stations from Clear Channel, which would allow Radio One to draw more African
American listeners than any other media vehicle targeting that audience, including BET. The
acquisition would double the size of Radio One, including obtaining a station in Los Angeles, the
fourth largest African American market in the United States.
Benefits and Risks of Acquisition The acquisition would allow Radio One to acquire stations in the
top 50 African American markets. Radio One has always produced broadcasts that target that group,
which is the largest minority group in America. Based on the information from the case, the African
American minority group is expected to experience 60% faster population growth than the general
population. The minority group has also experiencing 150% faster income growth between 1980 and
1995. African Americans listen to the radio on average 24% longer than the general population. That
information is favorable to the acquisition decision, as the new markets should experience an increase
in advertising revenue. One concern is that

Paul s Life And Ministry
Paul s Life and Ministry There is much to be learned from the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul.
Far from ordinary, within the scope of God s purpose was the selection of a man who would be chiefly
responsible for carrying out the postresurrection commission of Jesus to the Twelve by proclaiming
the fulfilment of the promise of Abraham (McRay, 2003). This man was Paul of Tarsus (Gal. 1:15 16),
who s story is one of redemption in Christ coupled with a testimony that no one is beyond the saving
grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul s early life
Paul, who was actually named Saul was born and spent his earliest years in the Diaspora, the
dispersion of the Jews outside the borders of the Holy Land (McRay, 2003). He was from a devout
Jewish family that residing in the city of Tarsus in Cilicia, which at the time was considered as one of
the largest trade centers on the Mediterranean coast. Not much is known as to how Paul s family
became Roman citizens, but Paul himself was identified as a born citizen (Acts 22:27 28). However,
his lineage can be traced to the Hebrew tribe of Benjamin. In addition to being associated with the
tribe of Benjamin, the family had a history of religious devoutness. For the family s religious
devoutness was further revealed when traces of extensive attachment to Pharisaic traditions and
observation throughout the generations were unveiled (Gundry, 1970).

Apart from family lineage information very little was revealed in the Bible about

Understanding The Health And Social Needs Of A Local...
Chapter One An introduction. A community profile is used to assess the health and social needs of a
local population and is used as a means of obtaining accurate and appropriate information on which to
base priorities when spending budgets. Community profiling ensures that decisions regarding the
needs of the population will be based on solid information and evidence (Naidoo, Wills and Naidoo,
2009). A community profile needs to determine a local population s needs and demands, together with
what provisions are currently in place to meet these demands. In order to provide an accurate
community profile it I essential that it I know what a community is, Laverack s (2004) definition of a

Newcastle was chosen as a geographical area to base the following community profile on as it is
currently the 40th most deprived local authority area in the country according to the IMD 2010 (The
English Indices of Deprivation, 2010). With long term unemployment at a high of 12.3% compared to
the national average or 9.5%, individuals in Newcastle are struggling to maintain their own health and
wellbeing. Participants of one study have explained what a negative impact unemployment is having
on their purchasing power for essentials, particularly food and are also seeing detriments to their
mental health due to the state of deprivation many local families are experiencing (Moffatt et al,
2015). Deprivation relates to the occurrence of several variables such as low income, poor housing,
and unemployment, this can be particularly stressful for families and has been proven to have a
detrimental effect on the health of a population (NHS, 2013). On average 20.3% of the English
population are assessed as living in deprivation, this is significantly greater in Newcastle where this
figure contrasts at 37.6% of the population with 15.6% of the working age population claiming out of
work benefit such as Incapacity Benefit (Public health England, 2013). England had a population of

My Classroom Environment
My classroom is geared for a Kindergarten class of 20 students, in a general education setting. The
learning environment has been organized to maximize the students safety, allow for student and
teacher movement, promote collaboration among peers, and foster student engagement in classroom
activities. Furniture utilized in this setting is developmentally and size appropriate, so that children are
comfortable. Storage cubbies, equipment, and materials have been placed in areas that are easily
accessible to both myself and my students without restricting the flow of classroom traffic or blocking
the student s view of or access to learning materials. I did not decorate every inch of space on my
classroom walls. I feel that this gives the appearance of clutter and pose more of a problem than a
purpose. I utilized neutral, calming colors as the backdrop for bulletin boards, as to not visually
overwhelm my students. Also, since my classroom only has one window, the access to natural light is
limited. I felt that use of bright or neon lights in combination with the florescent lighting could
potentially be distracting to my students. Bulletin boards will primarily serve to showcase student
work, with posters displaying curriculum content placed intermittently, except for the Calendar Math
board and the Word Wall. These will both be year round, interactive boards. Additionally, flip charts
on castor wheels will be utilized for small group and differentiated learning.

Male Gender Roles And Women
In society today, boys and girls are taught by those around them that there are but two ways only to
live a life the manly way and the feminine way and that to stray from one s designated role in the
world is unacceptable. Men in particular suffer from the confinement of gender roles and are exposed
pitilessly to society s punishing repercussions if one chooses to defy his preordained position. I myself
have felt the pungent sting of the male gender role in my own life, having grown up alongside a twin

Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder
Assignment 2
Part A.
Classroom engagement is always a key issue to rookie teachers. There are various types of learner
exist within a classroom and they each need to be treated differently. As teachers, we need to raise our
awareness of the attributes, competencies and challenges for each of those different learner types in
order to engage them in the class. This portfolio will introduce Autism Spectrum Disorder, Hearing
Impairment, Gifted and Talented Students and Challenging Behaviour in the classroom as example of
various learner types and discuss learning competencies and challenges, and then provide possible
engagement strategies for each of those learner types. Part B of this portfolio will discuss four
teaching strategies that are likely to engage students with autism spectrum disorder.
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that will impair individuals
communication ability and social interaction with others. Individuals with autism spectrum disorder
will more lilely to have restricted and repetitive behaviour or interest (Dawson Osterling, 1997).
Dawson Osterling then further added that students with autism spectrum disorder are often more
passive and more likely to be disengaged than their peers. Even when engaged, those students often
engage to object rather than people or surrounding enviroment (eg. class). This means students with
autism spectrum disorder will have significantly less interaction with

Disparities of the Death Penalty
disparity of application (gender, race)
1. Disparity of application of the death penalty is a researched and heavily discussed topic. There is no
disparity applied to the death penalty due to race. Many individuals believe that discrimination against
minorities directly contributes to the amount of offenders on death row that are African American,
Hispanic, or part of a different minority group. These trends exist for a reason, however I believe the
reason is due to the fact that individuals strive to meet different goals dependent on their racial
background. Currently, approximately 41 % of inmates on death row are black, and 44 % are white.
There are more inmates who are white on death row, which makes it hard to determine that disparity
was applied based on race or gender when individuals are faced with a death penalty sentence. There
are far less women on death row. There are not many women on death row because the death penalty
is not often applied to their cases. However, this is not due to their gender, it is based on the crimes
that were committed and typically women commit less violent crimes than men.
2. Furman v. Georgia
Furman v. Georgia proved that the way the death penalty was administered was unconstitutional.
William Furman was apprehended while he was found robbing a sleeping individual s home. During
the trial Furman claimed he had tripped and his weapon had accidentally discharged and struck the
victim. However, the statement he had given the police was

Arendt s Rhetorical Analysis
Despite his notoriously confusing rhetoric, German thinker Georg Hegel s philosophical theories are
seductive. Even those thinkers who claim to reject Hegel s ideas, such as Friedrich Nietzsche, end up
utilizing some of his most fundamental tenets. Given the pervasiveness of Hegel, it is rare for a thinker
to veer successfully from his arguments. This paper seeks to argue that there is one such thinker who
does so most compellingly: Hannah Arendt. Although Arendt claims to draw from Hegel, and many of
her ideas can in fact be called Hegelian, her concept of alienation is, upon close examination,
distinctly different from Hegel s. Whereas Hegel posits that alienation is a default natural state of all
subjects, Arendt flips this narrative, arguing that alienation is in fact imposed upon the subject.
Moreover, it does not lie at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After understanding Arendt s modification of Hegelian alienation, one can view the phenomenon of
alienation as such through the works of thinkers such as Simone de Beauvoir and Václav Havel. More
specifically, Beauvoir s discussion of the Self and Other, and Havel s work on the concept of ideology,
can be connected to Arendt s concept of alienation. In order to comprehend Hegel s concept of
alienation, one must first understand his discussion of the system and dialectics in his book
Phenomenology of Spirit. While he does not explicitly define the term system, through illustrating the
complicated structure of a flower, Hegel implies that a system is the whole that results from the build
up of constituent parts. Hegel furthermore debunks the notion that philosophical systems can be only

My Lai Massacre Soldiers are trained to always follow orders, and to never question orders. But that
belief is somewhat illogical. Soldier s are to obey any lawful order given. But the training involved,
the often chaotic nature of battle, and the need to follow authority to maintain survival can lead to a
very blurred vision of what is right or wrong. One s animalistic instincts may take over. Sometimes
there are such situations when you ve stepped over the line. Such as the horrendous act that took place

wounded. A few weeks later on March fourteenth, a small squad from Charlie Company ran into

The soldiers of Charlie Company became demoralized as they lost nearly one third of their troop in

systematically beaten, unarmed civilians sometimes murdered, whole villages burned, and wells
poisoned. Rapes were not uncommon. Many military leaders encouraged and rewarded kills in an

On March 16, 1968. Charlie Company was ordered to enter the Hamlet of My Lai to clear out the Viet

The Noble Knight In Thomas Malory s Morte Darthur
During Malory s Morte Darthur , the noble knights such as Lancelot, Gawain, Agravain, and Gareth
represent the ideals of knightliness. Malory seems to be implying that Sir Lancelot although King
Arthur s biggest betrayer was still the noblest of knights despite his adultery. Sir Lancelot during the
story is portrayed as the measure in which all knights worth is metered by. As just a knight Lancelot is
held as the man of which many worship, slightly more than even King Arthur, making Lancelot the
main idol of the text. Being a knight nobility, honor, and worship was an imperative skill in the role of
leadership, for a leader often were those who had proven themselves on and off the battlefield. For
others to look over Sire Lancelot and Queen Guinevere s secret affair insinuates that they respected Sir
Lancelot more than King Arthur. In Sir Thomas Malory s Morte Darthur the implication of the story is
that honor is obtained by holding up to the responsibilities one may have more so than relationships
they are involved in. Sir Agravain and Sir Mordred brought the Queen and Sir Lancelot s affair up
amongst the group of knights. To a reader, it shows a semi dislike to Sir Lancelot that they both would
make such noise over this. Sir Gawain reminds them both that they, must remember how often time
Sir Lancelot hath rescued the King and Queen (483). Gawain looks to Sir Lancelot as an honorable
knight disbelieving that his fellow knights would accuse him of such accusations.

speech, language, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages,
according to MedicineNet (MedicineNet). People of all ages can struggle with speaking whether it be
articulating letters, stuttering or dyslexia. It is easiest to help correct these challenges at a younger age,

While with Ms. Smith, I was able to learn more about the difference between Medical Speech
Language Pathology and School Speech Language Pathology. One of the major differences was the
schooling you have to go through to become each type of pathologist. In a school, they require a
masters to pass the national test, and a teaching certificate, where as a medical SLP s need a masters to
pass the national test, and a certificate of clinician competence. Another difference is what each type
of pathology pays. A school pathologist starts at around $40,000 a year with a scheduled step raise
yearly of between $2,500 to $3,000. Medical SLP s start out at around $10,000 more than in a school
and can increase significantly more over time. According to Learn.org, the highest mean salary
someone can expect to receive in a hospital/laboratory setting is about $105,680 as of 2015
(Learn.org). One question I was eager to learn more about was how exactly does an SLP help
children? While researching this question, I came across a video that explains exactly how it helps
children. Speech Language Pathology can help with children s communication skills. It allows them to
better understand what is being said to them and how to express themselves to others. It encourages
them to talk with others more, and improves reading and writing skills. Communication can impact a
child s social skills and can be an area kids may struggle. With some help with their speech, they can
share a common focus with another person, play with others and share toys, understand feelings, and
make friends. Overall, Speech Language Pathology helps them interact better with people around
them and makes them feel more comfortable in a classroom (ASHA). One last thing that I was able to

Pine Island Glacier is the Largest Sheet of Ice on Earch
Pine island Glacier is an enormous stream of ice flowing west northwest along the south of Hudson
mountains into the Amundsen Sea in Antarctica. This ice sheet is the largest chunk of ice on planet
Earth having a volume of a water equivalent to 57m of the global sea level. Hence, this basin has the
largest net contribution of ice to the sea in the world. In the past few decades, the pine island glacier
has been melting at an irreversible rate. Studies show that the ground line of the glacier has retreated
10 kilometres and is in the process of touching a 40 kilometre retreat. The glacier has been losing
approximately 20 billion tons of ice each year for the past quarter of the century and is estimated to
lose four times the ice in the coming quarter.
As said by a glaciologist with France s Grenoble Alps University, Gael Durand, the glacier has started
a phase of self sustained retreat and will continue its decline. The loss of ice from the glacier at this
rate would cause disasters and hence is the latest issue of climatic concern.
It has played a significant role in the rise of the global sea level. It is predicted that at this rate, the
glacier will alone increase the sea level by another centimetre in the next 20 years. The thinning of the
ice in West Antarctica contributes to 10% of the rise in the sea level today. The most recent
acceleration has been monotonic. The warm water flows above the marine ridge which results in

because of the way individuals can make a difference in others lives. The theme of this book is
something that relates to our lives everyday. Our actions can impacts individuals tremendously. There
were several people that spoke out throughout this book, but the most important one is George
Washington Williams. He was a minister, historian, and was in the Civil War. Williams was a very
strong headed individual, and when Leopold tried to persuade him not to visit the Congo he did not
listen. What he witnessed in the Congo made him ill. He wrote letters that were published in
newspapers making the horrific events that Leopold was ruling over. An example that Williams gives
is very blunt, but just a mild event that occurred in the Congo under Leopold s ruling. The Courts of

State Party System Pros And Cons
Devolelopement of the state party system:
This section deals with California s history as a party system. If you go all the way back to 1850 when
the state of California had its first governor campaign the winner was a man named Peter Burnett a
independent democrat raised in Missouri. All of the other positions including Lt. Governor, Attorney
General, Secretary of State, and Treasurer were also all independent democrats. The democratic party
developed right at the start and thrived fro the next 5 years with a clean sweep. Going into 1856 is
when the republican party started to really show their colors in the state of California. Throughout this
time the republican party was off and on with holding office chairs but the democratic party I would ...

With this new system parties are no longer required for having someone chosen to run for general
election or even congressional elections. In doing this in a sense all the candidate are grouped together
this is what s known as a party preference. Then like most elections the two top winners battle it out
the crazy thing is these two candidates can be from the same party so a democrat could be facing a
democrat and a republican could face off against another republican. There is really no change with
presidential primaries this is just for the state and local level. There are other states that do this as well
such as Louisiana, and Nebraska. There are some pros and cons to this way of a party system just like
any party system nothing is perfect but I really like this way due to the fact that the top two favorites
will battle it out even if its two people from the same party. There are some rules in California when it
comes to finances and taking money from downers. All money donated needs to be kept of file and
tracked. A campaign treasurer has to be appointed no matter what money cannot be accepted from
outside sources if a treasurer isn t appointed yet this is a huge rule in California. A treasurer must keep
track of documents. Certain forms have to be filled out after 1000 dollars have been raised or spent.
Contributions of all kind are ok but they need to be tracked and documented the only issue is you can
accept cash over the extent of 100 dollars. Money laundering has been an issue in California and that
absolutely not allowed. In a nutshell always fill out the proper paperwork for finances keep good
records of who donated and never take money without so and candidates cant pay extreme expenses
out of there own

Single Sex Instruction Is An Old Approach That Is...
Single sex instruction is an old approach that is increasing new force. While single sex instruction has
since a long time ago existed in numerous non public schools, it s a moderately new choice for state
funded schools. The National Association for Single Sex Public Education gauges that around 400
government funded schools now offer some type of single sex training. What is filling this
development? What s more, what are the dangers and advantages of single sex training?
A main impetus in the single sex training development is late research demonstrating regular contrasts
in how guys and females learn. Putting this examination into practice, in any case, has set off a level

Some guardians don t need their kids to be in blended sexual orientation classrooms in light of the fact
that, particularly at specific ages, understudies of the inverse sex can be a diversion.
Leonard Sax and others concur that simply setting young men in isolated classrooms from young
ladies achieves little. Be that as it may, single sex training upgrades understudy achievement when
educators use procedures intended for the sex of their understudies.
Some examination demonstrates that young ladies learn better when classroom temperature is warm,
while young men perform better in cooler classrooms. On the off chance that that is valid, then the
temperature in a solitary sex classroom could be set to streamline the learning of either male or female
understudies.
Some exploration and reports from teachers propose that solitary sex training can widen the
instructive prospects for both young ladies and young men. Advocates claim co ed schools have a
tendency to strengthen sexual

Description Of An Effective Villain
English Assignment
What s an effective villain?
It s about what makes an effective villain. What makes an effective villain is their motive, backstory,
characteristics, how they stand out from others, their power and how they use it. Their back story
gives us little glimpses of what they hunger for and it shows us their purpose. It s important for the
villain to stand out from others because then it is easy for the audience to symbolize and spot the
villain. It is also important to state how the villain uses their power, this reveals their feelings and
characteristics. Overview of main villain
Ben Solo is a human from the planet Chandrila. He is also known as Kylo Ren, this name is related to

their leader.

Native American Civilization Of Native Americans
As soon as the colonists set foot on the land of the Americas, they were building and growing crops on
land that originally belonged to the Indians, also known as Native Americans. Already having lost land
to the white settlers, some tribes dreaded the news of the revolutionary war against the British, as they
were afraid that the American Revolution would lead to more loss of land. Another reason may be
linked to the idea of a noble savage. Some settlers, such as Thomas Jefferson believed that Indians
could vindicate themselves if they lived and adapted to the ways of the white man. The Indians were
not interested in this white way of life and wanted to continue living with their own traditions and
culture. They did not want to be taught Jefferson s idea of civilization. Most indians stayed neutral
during this war, but some did not. While the Cherokee tribe did not side with the British, the chief,
Dragging Canoe, led the tribe in attacks against white settlements in the summer of 1776 in response
to losing land to the white colonists. The Patriot Militia fought back and the chief and some of his
followers had to retreat across the Tennessee River. The remaining Cherokee were left to a new treaty
making them give up more land. The Iroquois tribe declared neutrality in the war, but Iroquois
members still joined the British. Two of these members were Joseph and Mary Brant. Only three
Iroquois nations joined the Brants (the Mohawk, the Seneca, and

Margaret Mary and the Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Mary Fabyan Windeatt. Saint
Margaret Mary and the Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus tells the astounding story of a french
nun, from her painful and ailing childhood to her glorious visions of Jesus as a humble and healthy
nun. During Margaret s lifetime , she grows in the virtues of obedience, loyalty, and piety.
Throughout Margaret s Lifetime she develops the virtue of Obedience, by her words and actions . One
morning, Margaret was planning to gather some wild flowers for Our lady s shrine but Aunt Benedicta
forbade her to leave the house without permission and put her to work. Even though Margaret was
very disappointed that she couldn t go pick flowers for Our Blessed Mother, Margaret obediently
answered I....I ll be glad to help and though still very weak, Margaret obeyed, and did the list of things
her aunt told her to do. During Margarets time in the convent, the Lord had asked her to make a very
big sacrifice, and that was to eat cheese. Margaret absolutely despised cheese, It would be a thousand

The Life of Gregor Samsa in The Metamorphosis vs. Joseph Merrick, Elephant Man
One person who lived a life that greatly resembled Gregor is Joseph Merrick, the Elephant Man.
Merrick was afflicted with a genetic disease, possibly Proteus syndrome (James 554), that deformed
him to the point that his skin resembled an elephant. There were bony growths on his face and body.
From difficulty moving around to challenges with communications, there are many similarities
between the two men. However, there are also major differences between them. One of the principal
differences is their ability to keep their humanity and enjoy their lives. Their afflictions came on them
at different times as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gregor s family found his attempts to talk annoying and irritating. An inability to communicate easily
is a huge blow for someone trying to retain some humanity.
One great difference between the two men is that Merrick was able to communicate if he had
something to write on, whereas Gregor was not able to communicate well at all. Merrick wrote letters
to people who he had met and notes to the doctors and staff at the hospital where he spent most of his
adult life (Treves 1). Gregor tried to communicate by pushing things around, like his food, and
separating the stuff he wanted from what he didn t, so his sister would know what to bring him. His
sister seemed to understand this system of communications as she adjusted his food accordingly, this
made it more difficult for him when she stopped picking up on his hints and did the minimum possible
to keep him alive. He also pushed things around his room and hid when people were coming in; this
showed that he understood that they didn t want to see him. Another major difference between the two
men was that Gregor always had a place to live. Merrick s father and step mother kicked him out of
the house when he was 15. After that, he lived with an uncle for a while, but when the uncle s family
got too large to support another person he went to a workhouse (Howell Ford 51). Gregor always had
a place to live, it was the apartment he had rented for his

Photography And The Invention Of Photography
Approaching the turn of the twentieth century, photography was used mainly scientifically, to gather
data and make observations. Aside from some independent portrait work, the camera was not
considered a highly artistic instrument. Cameras were barely given a second look in aristocratic
artistic circles. The idea that photography could not be art met challenges in Britain by the Pictorial
movement, the vision of photography similar in subject to impressionist paintings that aimed to make
viewers emotional. This movement took a heavy foothold at a time when cameras were just entering
the consumer market; later making it s way across the pond to America. It is evident when comparing
the work of Gertrude Kasebier, who photographed in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand Edward Weston transformed simple objects like shells, leaves, and rocks with
heavy shadows and sharp contrast, making intriguing interest (Szarkowski). Both wall worthy artists
became so effective at making attractive photographs, they earned inspiring expositions at notable
institutions. They helped spur the interest of the general public to view photographs as art and the
camera as an instrument of pleasure rather than one of work. The look of a photograph during the time
was different than anything that came before, and their styles show even in today s photographs.
Especially the work of Weston does not appear outdated . It complements modern tastes as well.
Separating Pictorialist Photography for other photographic forms is its emphasis on emotion. A point
was made so audiences would feel connected to the still frames. If a painting could make a old woman
reflect on the happy times in her life or bring out despair in a man who had lost a child, why couldn t a
photograph do the same? To accomplish this, Käsebier pioneered women and domestic urban
situations to evoke emotions in a wide range from lust and pleasure to frustration and disgust, a
particularly marveling feat ( Gertrude Käsebier ). Later, Weston used increasingly abstract scenes,
frequenting landscapes to paint emotions (Szarkowski). The fact that

First Person Singular Narrative
Throughout the novella, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Gabriel Garcia Marquez chooses to narrate the
book from an unclear point of view. Certain sections of the book seem to be written in a first person
singular point of view, while others seem to be in first person plural, and yet others seem to be written
in the third person. For example, on the ninety eighth page of this chronicle, the narrator relates to the
audience the arrival of the magistrate investigating the murder. I never discovered his name.
Everything we know about his character has been learned from the brief... . The use of the word I in
this quote relates a first person singular narrative because it provides understanding to the audience of

Enron Corporation was an American energy based company in Houston, Texas and it was said to be one of the biggest scandals in history, but it was once known as the largest companies, one of the seventh largest corporation to be exact in history. The company was founded in 1985 by Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling. When Enron got started it was an natural gas and electricity company was produced, transmitted and sold by state regulated monopolies. Enron had used Wall Street to move energy supplies into financial instruments that could be traded online like stocks and bonds. These contracts told and guaranteed customers a steady supply at a predictable price. (citation)Which was the lie behind it. They started losing money and getting debt, so instead of them telling the truth they had hid the losses through accounting tricks because they did not want Enron s stock prices to go down. • 3. Our Country s Good Our Country s Good by Timberlake Wertenbaker Our Country s Good, a play by Timberlake Wertenbaker, is about a group of English convicts bound for Australia by sea in 1788. In the first scene, Sideways, a convict on board the ship, is being brutally whipped and we are introduced to the constant, overwhelming fear, hunger and despair that the convicts are going through. We are also introduced to all the officials on board. They are debating the punishment of hanging that three of the convicts have received for stealing, and we see the different attitudes different characters have to this. Governor Arthur Phillip supports a humane approach to dealing with the convicts, but Judge David Collins believes that the law must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Captain Phillip inspires Clark to go on. In the second rehearsal Robbie Ross is causing disruption yet again, however, as the convicts begin to act regardless, Ross finds himself impressed and any further impediments cease. Liz Morden is sentenced to hanging as a result of accusations of her stealing. She asks Harry Brewer to tell Ralph Clark, after she is hanged, that she was innocent all along, so that he knows the truth. However, Harry suffers a stroke and collapses at this point, after having been mentally ill for quite a while. He dies that night, with Duckling by his side. The officers debate Liz s sentence. Captain David Collins does not support the verdict as he states that there is only circumstantial evidence and Liz refused to verify or speak up about any part of the situation. However, Robbie Ross still considers her guilty. Liz Morden is then brought in and the officers urge her to talk for the good of the colony ... and of the play . Liz does indeed speak eventually, and she is found innocent. Therefore The Recruiting Officer goes on as well. Finally, the performance night comes. • 4. The Success and Intentions of Galileo Essay Galileo has been depicted variously as a cynical opportunist, patient genius or lucky engineer, and dies a coward or a modern Socrates. I agree that he is a patient genius, and lucky engineer, but I do not agree that he is a cynical opportunist, coward or a modern Socrates. Galileo was a mathematician and a natural philosopher, who converted Copernicanism, which states that the earth revolved around the sun, into philosophy and the world s true nature. By introducing new knowledge and using science to prove existing theories, he had caused a revolution by changing how people perceive the world during the last few hundred years and to doubt the authority of the Church, so as to spur on more people to confront the Church s interpretations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, although he had his own thinking and ideas, he waited fir the right opportunity to voice them out to minimize conflicts with the church, thus he was a patient genius. He was a lucky engineer. Through his hard work, he achieved great results from observing the stars, and applied math, scientific knowledge, and his own thinking in coming up with proofs that the universe was heliocentric and other theories such as Jupiter had moons orbiting it too, defying the old science that the Church was insisting on that the Earth was the center of the universe. He was also lucky because his hard work had paid off when he gained fame and prestige from publishing his book. If he had not done so, he might not have the motivation and opportunities to pursue the truth in knowledge later on and might not have caused a revolution to occur. Many coincidences occurred, like him getting famous, Baberini becoming the Pope, that allowed him to become what he is today. Thus, he was a lucky engineer. Like Socrates, he opposed the main ruler of the time, in Socrates case it was Athens, and in Galileo s case, it was the Church. Socrates was found guilty of impiety sentenced to forced suicide, but he actually wished for his death. He had the opportunity to run away, but he did not, as he believed that a true philosopher do not fear death, and he wanted to uphold Athens law. Galileo was charged with ... The Cold War was the result of World War Two, where both America and Russia wanted to gain influence in the recently ravaged Europe and beyond. America wanted to continue to globalize and create a capitalist world of free trade, while the Soviets wanted to spread their influence by establishing communistic proxy states, and form a barrier between themselves and the capitalistic west. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the time the author had completed writing Notes from Underground the society had moved to liberalism and abandoned reasoning and enlightenment (Frank 35). This is clearly represented in this novel since by the end, as the author concluded that there was more to man than enlightenment and reasoning. The underground man is an educated, literate, forty year old financially stable man, who, lives in a modern society. As the novel progresses, the underground man remembers the days he used to work without any affection. The man lives now alone in a place described as unattractive where he is completely cut off from friends and family (Fanger 5). This situation provides an indication of the troubles underground man is going through for they do not arise from work, money problems or the lack of social interaction opportunities. This man has money, is educated and has plenty of social interaction opportunities but he d rather remain in his solitude, Dostoevsky shows that in all respect the man has reached enlightenment (Frank 36). The problems of underground man are all concerned with what is happening to him from the inside. This man is suffering from a disease that arises from his lack of feeling completely healthy. Though the novel has depicted many medical discussions on doctors, liver problems, medicines, the real disease is emotional distress. • 9. Disney Corporttion´s Negative Influence in Children via... What started out as cartoon shows such as Mickey Mouse has now changed into a profit driven corporation. With TV shows, movies, clothing lines, toys, CDs, books, and theme parks, Disney is creating billions in revenue. However, the profits are at the cost of the youth. One way the youth are being harmed is children are absorbed in watching television shows that Disney plays daily. The amount of time spent watching television has increased in the years, while the amount of time spent playing games outside has decreased. Because of this, health issues in children have risen, especially in the United States. Also, children begin to idolize the child actors from the shows on Disney such as Miley Cyrus in Hannah Montana . Although some actresses are good role models, most usually are not. Child actors are more likely to develop drug addictions, alcohol addictions, and eating disorders than an average teenager. Not only are the child actors harmed from being put into a crazy lifestyle, the children who idolize these actors are harmed as well. Therefore, Disney s influence on the youth is harmful and should be limited. Obesity and other health issues are become a problem for the youth in America. • 10. Call Of Conscience In Les Miserables The following section connects Hyde s acknowledgment concepts: call of conscience, reconstruction, calculating thought, as well as, social death with select scenes from the novel Les Misérables in order to prove that stories teach people how to live a fulfilling life. ...the future is constantly calling us to acknowledge and make use of our response ability for making thoughtful decisions about how to build and live a meaningful life (Hyde, 2006, p. 49). Again, this paper argues that Les Misérables teaches people the communicative lesson of acknowledgment, specifically, call of conscience, reconstruction, calculative thought, and social death which explain how people can live responsible and meaningful lives. Call of conscience: Les Misérables does an excellent job at projecting what call of conscience means, specifically, when Jean Valjean saves Fauchelevent from being crushed under a carriage. Fauchelevent calls out where art thou?, help, cried old Fauchelevent. Who is a good fellow to save an old man? (Hugo, 2003, p. 109). Everyone is standing around leaving poor Fauchelevent to die. Valjean tries to find an alternative way of saving Fauchelevent, such as getting a jack, but Fauchelevent would be dead by the time it got there. Valjean informs everyone that there is enough room under the wagon for a man to crawl under and lift the weight, but nobody [stirs] in the crowd (Hugo, 2003, p. 110). Javert notes that fearsome men are needed to lift the wagon...I have known but one man capable of doing what you call for (Hugo, 2003, p. 110). The old man yells out that he is dying and Valjean offers to pay someone to save Fauchelevent. Yet again, no one rises to the occasion, therefore, without saying a word Valjean falls to his knees and saves Fauchelevent despite the fact that Javert watches him the entire time. Valjean answers Fauchelevent s where are though which his here I am when he saves him. Call of conscience is the call of Being Valjean takes his courage and saves Fauchelevent because he knows that it is the right thing to do (Hyde, 2006, p. 39). The growing threat of revolution by English radicals being influenced by Irish rebels and the French Revolution was the main thing William Pitt the younger was faced with during his time as Prime Minister. To deal with this, he reinforced a repressive policy of tough legislation strengthened through propaganda. It was not only these actions taken that managed to quell the revolutionaries from revolting. Other than the actions taken by Pitt, there was discordance between the radicals, also the loyalist reaction sparked by the war in France; these are only a few reasons amongst many. There was a loyalist riot in 1794 in Manchester where chants about church and kings were to be heard, subsequently Church and King clubs formed. The loyalists advertised their cause through pamphlets that supported the king. Suppport for the king spread, the government were extremely happy with the outcome, they even allowed and encourages a loyalist militia to form and by 1800 there were 100,000 members. This show of support for the king that followed the war with France was a strong opponent against the radicals. Problems within the radicals caused a divide in their goals and the path they thought was necessary to take to reach them. This could be seen when looking at some of the radical groups. Disunity in cause could be seen by looking at two figures that were part of the radical movement; Tom Paine focused solely on men s rights, whilst Mary Wollstonecraft focused on rights for women. The London Corresponding Society believed in achieving their goals peacefully, however the Society for Constitutional Information s leader (John Jebb) believed that public agitation was the most effective way of reaching their goals. This lack of unity of cause and ways of achieving their aims considerably weakened the radical movement. Another factor that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The three main Hispanic groups in the United States are Cubans, Mexicans, and Puerto Ricans. Puerto Ricans are people who identify themselves as Hispanics of Puerto Rican origin, meaning they were either born in Puerto Rico, or have family ancestry that traces back to Puerto Rico. According to Lopez Patten (2015), in 2013, Puerto Ricans were the second largest Hispanic origin population living in the United States, accounting for 9.5%. This population continues to grow. In fact, between 1980 and 2013, the Puerto Rican population in the United States had increased by 56% (Lopez Patten, 2015). Puerto Rican culture is unique, and quite complex. To gain knowledge and a better understanding of the Puerto Rican culture, I attended the Puerto Rican Festival held in Milwaukee, and conducted an interview with Melinda Nieves, a Puerto Rican woman living in Appleton. Through these experiences, I found that Puerto Rican culture is centered around language, family, and religion, as well as music and delicious food. Finding that there were no independent manufacturers capable of supplying bottle caps needed for packaging the cream, Lak Hui Chemical set up its own facilities and utilized the excess capacity of its injection molding machines to manufacture small consumer products based in plastic. This led to an entry into the manufacture of plastics components for telecommunication and electrical companies presaging LG s entry into the telecommunications business. Far from ordinary, within the scope of God s purpose was the selection of a man who would be chiefly responsible for carrying out the postresurrection commission of Jesus to the Twelve by proclaiming the fulfilment of the promise of Abraham (McRay, 2003). This man was Paul of Tarsus (Gal. 1:15 16), who s story is one of redemption in Christ coupled with a testimony that no one is beyond the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. • 29. Disparities of the Death Penalty disparity of application (gender, race) 1. Disparity of application of the death penalty is a researched and heavily discussed topic. There is no disparity applied to the death penalty due to race. Many individuals believe that discrimination against minorities directly contributes to the amount of offenders on death row that are African American, Hispanic, or part of a different minority group. These trends exist for a reason, however I believe the reason is due to the fact that individuals strive to meet different goals dependent on their racial background. Currently, approximately 41 % of inmates on death row are black, and 44 % are white. There are more inmates who are white on death row, which makes it hard to determine that disparity was applied based on race or gender when individuals are faced with a death penalty sentence. There are far less women on death row. There are not many women on death row because the death penalty is not often applied to their cases. However, this is not due to their gender, it is based on the crimes that were committed and typically women commit less violent crimes than men. 2. Furman v. Georgia Furman v. This paper seeks to argue that there is one such thinker who does so most compellingly: Hannah Arendt. Although Arendt claims to draw from Hegel, and many of her ideas can in fact be called Hegelian, her concept of alienation is, upon close examination, distinctly different from Hegel s. Since that day, the United States military will always remain on a war footing, a state of readiness, and the commitment to deploy anywhere in the world to protect American citizens, our allies, and human rights against any enemies foreign or domestic. • 37. Pine Island Glacier is the Largest Sheet of Ice on Earch Pine island Glacier is an enormous stream of ice flowing west northwest along the south of Hudson mountains into the Amundsen Sea in Antarctica. This ice sheet is the largest chunk of ice on planet Earth having a volume of a water equivalent to 57m of the global sea level. Hence, this basin has the largest net contribution of ice to the sea in the world. In the past few decades, the pine island glacier has been melting at an irreversible rate. Studies show that the ground line of the glacier has retreated 10 kilometres and is in the process of touching a 40 kilometre retreat. The glacier has been losing approximately 20 billion tons of ice each year for the past quarter of the century and is estimated to lose four times the ice in the coming quarter. As said by a glaciologist with France s Grenoble Alps University, Gael Durand, the glacier has started a phase of self sustained retreat and will continue its decline. The loss of ice from the glacier at this rate would cause disasters and hence is the latest issue of climatic concern. It has played a significant role in the rise of the global sea level. It is predicted that at this rate, the glacier will alone increase the sea level by another centimetre in the next 20 years. The thinning of the ice in West Antarctica contributes to 10% of the rise in the sea level today. The most recent acceleration has been monotonic. The warm water flows above the marine ridge which results in melting of the thick ice which comes out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. King Leopold s Ghost Analysis King Leopold s Ghost Analysis The real names of our people were destroyed during slavery. The last name of my forefathers was taken from them when they were brought to America and made slaves, and then the name of the slave master was given, which we refuse; we reject that name today and refuse it. I never acknowledge it whatsoever. In King Leopold s Ghost talks about Leopold II ruling over the Belgium Congo territory. He forced the enslaved individuals to do horrific and exhausting tasks, and people who disagreed with him made it known of his horrible acts. Several countries began to disagree with Leopold s dictatorship. He was a tyrant. King Leopold s Ghost is a phenomenal book because of the way individuals can make a difference in others lives. The theme of this book is something that relates to our lives everyday. Our actions can impacts individuals tremendously. There were several people that spoke out throughout this book, but the most important one is George Washington Williams. He was a minister, historian, and was in the Civil War. Williams was a very strong headed individual, and when Leopold tried to persuade him not to visit the Congo he did not listen. What he witnessed in the Congo made him ill. He wrote letters that were published in newspapers making the horrific events that Leopold was ruling over. An example that Williams gives is very blunt, but just a mild event that occurred in the Congo under Leopold s ruling. The Courts of your Majesty s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you go all the way back to 1850 when the state of California had its first governor campaign the winner was a man named Peter Burnett a independent democrat raised in Missouri. All of the other positions including Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and Treasurer were also all independent democrats. The democratic party developed right at the start and thrived fro the next 5 years with a clean sweep. Going into 1856 is when the republican party started to really show their colors in the state of California. With this new system parties are no longer required for having someone chosen to run for general election or even congressional elections. In doing this in a sense all the candidate are grouped together this is what s known as a party preference. Then like most elections the two top winners battle it out the crazy thing is these two candidates can be from the same party so a democrat could be facing a democrat and a republican could face off against another republican. There is really no change with presidential primaries this is just for the state and local level. There are other states that do this as well such as Louisiana, and Nebraska. There are some pros and cons to this way of a party system just like any party system nothing is perfect but I really like this way due to the fact that the top two favorites will battle it out even if its two people from the same party. There are some rules in California when it comes to finances and taking money from downers. All money donated needs to be kept of file and tracked. A campaign treasurer has to be appointed no matter what money cannot be accepted from outside sources if a treasurer isn t appointed yet this is a huge rule in California. A treasurer must keep track of documents. Certain forms have to be filled out after 1000 dollars have been raised or spent. Contributions of all kind are ok but they need to be tracked and documented the only issue is you can accept cash over the extent of 100 dollars. Money laundering has been an issue in California and that absolutely not allowed. Presenting the defense for single sex training The individuals who advocate for single sex training in government funded schools contend that: Ad Some guardians don t need their kids to be in blended sexual orientation classrooms in light of the fact that, particularly at specific ages, understudies of the inverse sex can be a diversion. Leonard Sax and others concur that simply setting young men in isolated classrooms from young ladies achieves little. Be that as it may, single sex training upgrades understudy achievement when educators use procedures intended for the sex of their understudies. Some examination demonstrates that young ladies learn better when classroom temperature is warm, while young men perform better in cooler classrooms. On the off chance that that is valid, then the temperature in a solitary sex classroom could be set to streamline the learning of either male or female understudies. Some exploration and reports from teachers propose that solitary sex training can widen the instructive prospects for both young ladies and young men. • 45. Native American Civilization Of Native Americans As soon as the colonists set foot on the land of the Americas, they were building and growing crops on land that originally belonged to the Indians, also known as Native Americans. Already having lost land to the white settlers, some tribes dreaded the news of the revolutionary war against the British, as they were afraid that the American Revolution would lead to more loss of land. Another reason may be linked to the idea of a noble savage. Some settlers, such as Thomas Jefferson believed that Indians could vindicate themselves if they lived and adapted to the ways of the white man. The Indians were not interested in this white way of life and wanted to continue living with their own traditions and culture. They did not want to be taught Jefferson s idea of civilization. Most indians stayed neutral during this war, but some did not. While the Cherokee tribe did not side with the British, the chief, Dragging Canoe, led the tribe in attacks against white settlements in the summer of 1776 in response to losing land to the white colonists. The Patriot Militia fought back and the chief and some of his followers had to retreat across the Tennessee River. The remaining Cherokee were left to a new treaty making them give up more land. The Iroquois tribe declared neutrality in the war, but Iroquois members still joined the British. Two of these members were Joseph and Mary Brant. Gregor s family found his attempts to talk annoying and irritating. An inability to communicate easily is a huge blow for someone trying to retain some humanity. One great difference between the two men is that Merrick was able to communicate if he had something to write on, whereas Gregor was not able to communicate well at all. Merrick wrote letters to people who he had met and notes to the doctors and staff at the hospital where he spent most of his adult life (Treves 1). Gregor tried to communicate by pushing things around, like his food, and separating the stuff he wanted from what he didn t, so his sister would know what to bring him. His sister seemed to understand this system of communications as she adjusted his food accordingly, this made it more difficult for him when she stopped picking up on his hints and did the minimum possible to keep him alive. He also pushed things around his room and hid when people were coming in; this showed that he understood that they didn t want to see him. Another major difference between the two men was that Gregor always had a place to live. Merrick s father and step mother kicked him out of the house when he was 15. After that, he lived with an uncle for a while, but when the uncle s family got too large to support another person he went to a workhouse (Howell Ford 51). Aside from some independent portrait work, the camera was not considered a highly artistic instrument. Cameras were barely given a second look in aristocratic artistic circles. The idea that photography could not be art met challenges in Britain by the Pictorial movement, the vision of photography similar in subject to impressionist paintings that aimed to make viewers emotional. On the other hand Edward Weston transformed simple objects like shells, leaves, and rocks with heavy shadows and sharp contrast, making intriguing interest (Szarkowski). Both wall worthy artists became so effective at making attractive photographs, they earned inspiring expositions at notable institutions. They helped spur the interest of the general public to view photographs as art and the camera as an instrument of pleasure rather than one of work. The look of a photograph during the time was different than anything that came before, and their styles show even in today s photographs. Especially the work of Weston does not appear outdated . It complements modern tastes as well. Separating Pictorialist Photography for other photographic forms is its emphasis on emotion. A point was made so audiences would feel connected to the still frames. If a painting could make a old woman reflect on the happy times in her life or bring out despair in a man who had lost a child, why couldn t a photograph do the same? To accomplish this, Käsebier pioneered women and domestic urban situations to evoke emotions in a wide range from lust and pleasure to frustration and disgust, a particularly marveling feat ( Gertrude Käsebier ). Later, Weston used increasingly abstract scenes, frequenting landscapes to paint emotions (Szarkowski). The fact that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
