Fahrenheit 451 Nature Analysis
In the article Nature , Emerson displays the values of nature, and why man cannot grasp the true
significance of nature without being in solitude. By presenting the real beauty of nature in a multitude
of ways, the author supports his reasoning with valid evidence. Ultimately, the article is intended to
render the reader various thoughts about the value of nature. First and foremost, relating to the novel
Fahrenheit 451, Montag s journey into nature reflects the one depicted by Emerson in varied ways.
For example, Montag took time when he was alone to really look at the stars, is described by Emerson
when he states, If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and
adore (Lewis). Montag in Fahrenheit 451

American Higher Education Of The Deaf And Dumb At Columbia...
Abstract
Since the establishment of the division for the deaf and dumb at Columbia University in 1864.
American Higher education has been influenced and responsive to changes in federal civil rights
protections for students with disabilities while facing both internal and external pressures on how to
deal with persons with disabilities. The establishment of students with disabilities in an American
higher education context found its start with the admission of students with sensory disabilities,
primarily deaf and blind students. Changes because of the world wars poured federal funding into
programs to assist veterans with acquired disabilities return to the workforce. The rise of the disability
rights movement resulted in the passage of federal protects that mandate the creation of disability
support services and bared institutional discrimination at all institutions. These changes saw students
with disabilities and the services to support them move from marginalized, and often experimental,
into the mainstream of student affairs and higher education.
First Research Essay for American Higher Education
Many historical studies of American higher education cover the development of academia as well the
development of the institutions themselves. Further, in recent years historical scholars have introduced
the development of previously underserved student communities in higher education such as Women

Gustave Caillebotte s Paris Street; Rainy Day Essay
Gustave Caillebotte s Paris Street; Rainy Day
The first thing that strikes me is the size of the work. About seven feet tall and nine feet wide, this
painting dominates its gallery and overwhelms the viewer. The couple in the foreground of the
painting is nearly life size, and with the man poised to take another step it seems he might climb right
over the frame and walk right into the gallery. The bold perspective thrusts the scene outward, and
with details such as the sharply receding roofline of the main building and the acute tilt of the street,
geometric and visual effects are created which push and pull the viewer and instill the painting with
action.
This work is more complex and detailed then one might first imagine, ... Show more content on

He tilts his umbrella to the right so as to avoid collision with the couple who neither pay him attention
nor show any signs of tilting their umbrella in deference. A green (a color which stands out) gas lamp
separates these three from the rest of the painting, and also divides the canvas in half. A little further
back a lone man is crossing the street, looking down in a manner which suggests inward thinking but
also illustrates the reality of the wet and mucky road on which one must watch their step. The rest of
the figures receive less influence, but a few of them are certainly worth noting. Directly to the left of
the protagonist s head two women walk away from the viewer. Their symmetry is visually enticing.
Also, above the wagon wheel on the left side of the painting a man is crossing the street. He piqued
my attention because of the odd position of his body and feet it looks as if he is almost doing a jig.
Lastly, one might note how the front couple s umbrella pole occludes a woman s head in the
background; she in turn holds an umbrella that obscures the head of a workman with ladder behind
her; a curious compositional detail to say the least.
The surface of the painting is characterized mostly by relatively broad painterly brushstrokes which in
that singularly impressionistic manner allow the stuff of paint to really show. Even though the picture
appears much more finished and

Two Speechs Of Diodotus
In the fourth year of the Peloponnesian War, the city of Mytilene, revolts against Athens and conspires
with Sparta and asks for their assistance. However, these plans for revolt are reported to Athens, who
send an army against Mytilene. While under siege, Mytilene s democratic faction gives up and decides
to surrender to Athens. When the Athenian leaders first meet to decide about the fate of the Mytilene
people, they decree that all the Mytilene men be put to death, while the women and children be
enslaved. The following day, the Athenians decide to put all Mytilene s to death not just the guilty.
However, this time an assembly is called to persuade Athenian officials to reconsider their death
penalty. During this assembly, there are two speeches given; one by Cleon and the other by Diodotus;
these will be explored in detail in the following paragraphs. As I read Thucydides summary, the two
speeches serve as contrasts, illustrating the difference between bad and good arguments. Through the
following themes/conclusions that will be explored/applied in the paper, this paper argues that
Diodotus, not Cleon, makes the better argument: i) Cleon uses the language of un justice, punishment,
irrationality and extreme emotions, which makes his disposition unreasonable; ii) Diodotus uses the
language of rationality, justice and intellect which form the basis of a strong argument. The first way
in which Cleon is irrational is through the first half of his speech; he starts off by

Rita Hayworth and Shawshank
In the novella rita hayworth and the shawshank redemption relationships made in the prison result in
an overall. benificial relationships are shown through reds relationships with the inmates and gaurds,
andys relationship with warden norton anf andys relationship with tommy. reds relationship with the
guards and inmates are the only reason red has had a successful stay at shawshank. throughout
shawshank red makes many deals with the guards not only improving his time at shawshank but
giving him a higher status in the prison Nine or Ten names drawn out of hat and two of them happend
to be Andy s and my own (Page 40) It can most deffinitely be inferred that red made some sort of deal
with the gaurds to get the both of them on the roof top considering it was a desired job and nearly
seventy other men also wanted the job. Red s relationship withthe gaurds gets him the things he wants
when he wants giving him a more positive outlook on the time he is serving. Red is known as the man
who can get you things arounf shawshank. Nearly everyone comes to him for anything from cigarettes
to a rock hammer. He not only makes a profit off of the items he gets for people he gains a source of
power within the prison. Red being the man who can get things is really what sparked the relationship
between Andy and Red. I heard your the man who knows how to get things (Pg 27) Short but sweet

The Insanity Of Juvenile Crimes
My stance on this particular situation is that the mental capacity of an individual would be a huge
factor in determining whether their sanity played any part in the felony they committed. Overall, I do
believe that everyone should be held accountable for their own actions. As a general rule, adolescents
know the difference between what is considered right and wrong and they are able to understand that
it is against the law to commit murder, period. For those who feel a juvenile should not be held
responsible for their actions due to their frontal and prefrontal lobes not being fully developed until
the age of 25, I would like them to consider the following: the legal age that an individual is
considered an adult should be changed permanently

Evaluation Of A Research Methodology Essay
Chapter 3
Research Methodology
Overview of the Research Methodology Action research is the most suitable process to use in order to
address this research problem. The researcher needs a solution that s reliable to use and appropriate to
administer in a classroom setting. The issue, although prevalent throughout the district, is still unique
in the parameters of this fourth grade class. It is not the goal of the researcher to generalize their
findings to a large population, but instead to meet the needs and weaknesses of a single group of
students with which the researcher interacts with regularly.
Proposed Research Design The researcher will use action research to collect both quantitative and
qualitative data. The main objective of this research is to positively affect students ability to solve
word problems effectively and efficiently. Therefore, the quantitative data will measure their growth
from before and after intervention. The qualitative data will gather students responses regarding the
benefits of using/reusing taught methods. In addressing the first research question (How effective are
language focused techniques at improving 4th grade students understanding of math word problems?),
empirical data will serve as evidence. To answer the second research question (What are the perceived
benefits in 4th grade students using a graphic organizer/visual support as a strategy in solving math
word problems?), students will submit an anonymous survey which

responses were correlated and the mean obtained for each. The standard deviation was also calculated
for each response. The results show that there was a significant swing towards the positive responses
with the mean of 14.71 and a standard deviation of 2.87. The negative responses correlated a mean
score of 3.24 with a standard deviation of 2.77. This demonstrates that just over 70% of those who
participated in the Warm control group returned positive responses with both standard deviations
within an acceptable level of around 2.8. This is clear evidence that the inclusion of the central trait
independent variable of Warm did significantly influence the dependant variable outcome in favour of
positive comments thus collaborating Asch s hypothesis.

Human Identity in James Joyce s The Dead Essay
Human Identity in The Dead
The short story, The Dead, is the final story in Dubliners, but it is characteristic of a number of
previous stories. In the first story, The Sisters, a young boy is confronted with the death of an
influencing figure in his life. The women in Eveline and Clay are haunted by death: Eveline, by the
memory of her mother, and Maria, by the omen of her own death. A Painful Case is the story of the
tragic death of a rejected woman. A dead political figure is the basis of Ivy Day in the Committee
Room. All these stories revolve around characters pains and experiences with death. James Joyce s
The Dead exhibits the capacity of someone s death to dishearten one in their future relations and ...

The title The Dead represents exactly that, people and their memories who have departed before the
characters in the story. The dead are a subject in Gabriel s speech at the dinner after the dance. Were
we to brood upon them always we could not find the heart to go on, he says in respect to the deceased.
The memories of Kate and Julia Morkan s brother, his horse, and Parkinson, a famous singer, are all
mentioned in various conversations at the dance. But, most of all, the title refers to Michael Furey,
Gretta s former love. The title pertains to those who most affect our lives after they are gone, The
Dead.
Gabriel Conroy s amiable character is exemplified by his capacity for affection and his high education.
Though he considers the others at the dance to be of a different grade of culture, he has a general
concern for them all. He is concious of his superior education, not wanting his speech to seem a
reflection of it. He has a great love and compassion for his wife, wishing he could offer her more than
their tiresome life. Rather than be angered by or misinterpreting Gretta s sad situation, he comforts her
and restrains from revealing his innermost feelings. Gabriel is a thoughtful, understanding husband

Compare And Contrast The Odyssey And The Hobbit
Compare and Contrast As I read through Homer s The Odyssey, and J.R.R Tolkien s The Hobbit, I
immediately noticed several similarities between the two. Of course not only were their things that
they both shared in common, but also things that set them apart from each other. I mean what kind of
authors would they be if they wrote the same exact story. I hope that by reading this essay you gain a
better understanding of both books as well as what they have in common and what is different
between them. By the end you should be able to identify the similarities and differences between both
of their journeys as well as between most of the characters in this book. I d first like to establish the
theme between both of these amazing stories. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Hobbit the battle comes at the end of the book and in the Odyssey it is the battle of Troy that
occurs in the beginning of the story that starts our adventure. I think the major theme is that through
perseverance and hard work you can achieve great strides in completing your goal, and that it is only
by relying on others as well as yourself that those goal(s) can be achieved. During these events we can
understand some major plot similarities. Some shared plot points that I discovered while reading. For
instance both adventures are started by another source. In the Odyssey Goddess Athena descends from
the heavens after convincing her father, the Son of Cronus, Zeus to allow Odysseus to return home.
Once she arrives in Ithaca, she sets Telemachus on his adventure to learn more information about his
father whereabouts. This is like Gandalf the Gray arriving in the Shire to set Bilbo on his mission with
Thorin to reclaim the mountain from Smaug. Another major part would be the obstacles that stand in
their way. Mostly in the form of Monsters and other beings. The Odyssey features some creatures
famous in greek mythology such as the Cyclops, Polyphemus, the beasts Scylla and Charybdis, the
Sirens, and the God Helios and Goddesses Circe and Calypso. The Hobbit features classic fantasy
monsters like Giant Spiders, Goblins, Worgs, an Elvish King, and of course a fire breathing Smaug.
Both characters gain gifts that

Gunsmithing Requires Innovation Summary
In the article Gunsmithing Requires Innovation Paul Mazan has a customer come to him with hopes of
fixing his grandpa s old antique shotgun. To be exact, it was a Belgian Damascus barreled shotgun
made by F. Dumoulin. Back in those times the gun manufacturers would sometimes print any name
the customer wanted on the firearms. For example, if you owned Frank s Great Hardware, you could
have Franks Firearms printed on the side of your shotguns. This proved to be all but helpful when
finding replacement parts for this antique project.
The thing about F. Dumoulin though, was that the company shut its doors and went out of business in
1903. Of course, this meant finding original parts for the gun would be nearly impossible. As a

The God Of Small Things And Chemmeen
What makes people who they are? From a young age, cultural rules that outline the expectations of a
person in their society are instilled in a person s mind . They are molded by their fundamental role in
their society and continually adhere to that role throughout their lives. They can t over cross those
boundaries. The different roles assigned to a person by society influences their identity through their
life. The characters of The God of small things and Chemmeen are an example of how breaking these
cultural values can go well, as well as disastrously. The characters Ammu, Velutha, and Karuthamma
struggle to follow these societal codes of their community and this undoubtedly leads to their demise.
For my paper, I will display to you how one s community can influence one s occupation, social
graces, relationships, and all in all, their whole lives. In The God of small things Ammu is from a
village called Ayemenem. She is the daughter of Pappachi and Mammachi and the sister of Chacko.
Chacko, being the son of the family, and the future man of the house was allowed to go far to get an
education, while Ammu was left with her abusive and drunkard father. Her father believed that a
college education was an unnecessary expense for a girl. (Roy). Ammu became desperate to leave the

Fear is a chemical chain reaction in the brain. It is in the part of the brain that allows us to
communicate and to speak with other people ( Layton, Julia ). The idea is an autonomic response in
the brain with many parts of the brain involved. Fear starts with a scary stimulus and ends with a fight
or flight response telling the human to fight back or run away. It starts with two processes the quick
and messy way, and the clear and slow way ( Layton, Julia ). The quick way is when you are
panicking and out of breath and the clear way takes a while and is when you calm down and realize it
was nothing. Both of the processes happen simultaneously ( Layton, Julia ). The brain uses your blood

Around 2000 BC, Cushitic speaking people from northern Africa settled in the part of East Africa that

Character Analysis Of Andrew In Fly Away Home By Eve Bunting
Hopefull. That describes Andrew in Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting. Andrew lives in a airport. He
want the live a normal life but he can t because he s stuck in an airport without a home. Though in a
tough situation he still manages to keep a positive attitude, and he also is helpful. He is so young yet
he is still hopeful.
How would you react living in an airport since you were young, well Andrew manages to keep a
positive attitude. In the story Andrew said My dad and I live in the airport, that s because we don t
have a home and the airport is better than the streets. This shows his attitude while living in the airport
it s tough but he does not want to show his dad that he truly wants to live in a house. Andrew tries to
stay positive through the situation he s going through. But he is a lot more positive than most people
would be in his predicament. Another example on how Andrew is positive is when he saw the bird get
stuck in the airport, Don t stop trying! he told it silently. Don t! You can get out. This part is significant
to the story by showing how he is encouraging the bird to continue trying, that the bird can get out.
But this makes me wonder if maybe he was just talking to himself because he has no one to help him
stay positive. His dad surely does not encourage him his dad likes it at the airport his dad does not
understand what Andrew really wants, yet Andrew still fights and he still has hope. The last example
on how Andrew is positive is when he said Then I remember the bird, It took awhile but a door opened
and when the bird left, when it flew free, I knew it was singing. It is important to notice that before he
said this he almost lost hope, he got mad at the people around him because they had more than him.
But he then tried to focus on something positive this shows that he truly wants to have hope and be
positive.
Many people face challenges all the time. But the character Andrew in fly away home lives in an
airport and helps his dad to get out. One example is he can t get noticed by other people, they stay
among the crowds change airlines and sleep sitting up. Even though Andrew is just a kid he doesn t
complain about all the walking and trying not to get noticed. This is helpful

The Hugo Chavez Documentary, Questions and Answers
1. After watching the Hugo Chavez documentary it is clear that the subject matter was his downfall as
the republican president. Chavez was the republican president of Venezuelan from 1999 until 2013
when he pasted away from cancer. This documentary showed a lot of the not so positive posted of
views on Chavez. As we discussed after class Chavez wanted to run his government as a place: for the
people, by the people. This is commonly refereed to as a socialist reform for a president. Chavez could
have worked if he consider all of the Venezuelan people. But it was clear that he did not consider the
needs of the middle class people, which lead to his downfall as a president. Failing the middle class
people was his strings downfall because these people took there feelings to the media. In doing so the
media showed Chavez to the world in a negative perspective.
2. For the Chavez documentary both inquisitiveness and character would be an apporaite description
fitting to what attempted to take on as president. But let s focus on the character aspect for the global
hr leadership section of the text book. Character is described on page 88 of the textbook as character
involves a global leaders ability to connect emotionally with people from diverse cultures and wiry an
unwavering demonstration of personal integrity . Chavez tried to be very charismatic when it came to
the lower class Venezuelan people. He promised most these people homes to live in. An example of

The early part of the 20th century saw a rise in blues and jazz. African American music at this time

Kohlberg s Theory Of Moral Development
Lawrence Kohlberg (1927 1987) further developed the works of Piaget (1896 1980) in regards to
moral development. This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Kohlberg s theory in a
critical manner, looking at the positive aspects of his research and the disadvantages of the types of
situations he gave in his experiments, the universal accuracy of his results and the controversial
findings of sex differences in regards to morality. Kohlberg advanced Piaget s theory of moral
development and interviewed 10 13 year old boys to find out how they would attempt to resolve moral
issues. These issues varied between situations that involved obeying the law, authority figure or rule
and ones that would conflict these rules in order to serve a human need. From the answers that were
given Kohlberg devised three levels, each split up into two stages, that he believed were universally
found and that every person went through to advance their levels of morality (Shaffer Kipp, 2007).
One of the major advantages of using Kohlberg s theory of moral development over Piaget s is the
universal nature of the findings. Colby Kohlberg, (1987) found a strong positive correlation between
age and maturity levels of moral reasoning in the United States, Mexico, the Bahamas, Taiwan,
Turkey, Honduras, India, Nigeria and Kenya. This research support does indeed suggest that Kohlberg
was right about the stages of moral reasoning being universal (Shaffer Kipp, 2007). Although the

What Is The Statement Of Purpose In Mechanical Engineering
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
University of Illinois Chicago, Fall 2014
Statement of Purpose by Samuel Devdas
The undergraduate curriculum in Mechanical Engineering at RTM Nagpur University introduced a
wide gamut of subjects, both in and outside the field. These courses enabled me to understand the field
of Mechanical Engineering on the whole. In my opinion, having just a bachelor degree would not
allow me to narrow down my research areas for further doctoral thesis. Thus, my purpose to join
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) at University of Illinois Chicago is to

The Influence Of The Nigerian Oil Production
The Nigerian oil production has been an issue that has become a cruse to the people for so many
years. According to reports, the oil production has lubricated to Nigeria s failure because it has
damaged the economy as well as the environment and democracy. Anyone would think that a country
that has an enormous resource of petroleum would be economically stable but this is not the case in
Nigeria. For many years Nigeria has suffered effects directly as well indirectly from the oil industry.
For my research I am drawing from two sets of sources. I will be referring to the books that I have
researched as my A sources. The newspaper articles will be referred as my B sources in this paper.
Through out my paper, I will show you how and explain why the media today only reports one side of
the story while the books on my geopolitical topic will tell the background to the events occurring.
The book, The Influencing Machine: Brooke Gladstone on the Media, written by Brooke Gladstone is
a graphic novel that tries to decipher the rapidly changing media business and the way people interact
with it. It traces the origins of modern journalism back to the Mayans and walks through the
journalistic roots in the cultures of ancient Rome, Britain, and Revolutionary and early America. The
book then dives into contemporary media condition. The media has become something that we love
and hate at the same time. Everything we hate about the media today was present at its creation: its
corruption or

Increasing Population Uncertainty Essay
Increasing Population Uncertainty
Carrying capacity is defined as the number of individuals of a certain species that can be sustained
indefinitely in a particular area. The Earth s capacity to support people is determined both by natural
constraints and by human choices concerning economics, environment, culture (including values and
politics), and demography. Human carrying capacity is more difficult to estimate than some of the
standard demographic indicators, like expectation of life or the total fertility rate, because human
carrying capacity depends on populations and activities around the world. Human carrying capacity is
therefore dynamic and uncertain. Ecologists have often made use of the concept of carrying ... Show

Many environmental, social, and economic problems either stem from or are increased in magnitude
by the overpopulation problem. With an exponentially increasing population, the problems created by
overpopulation grow correspondingly. Population growth is out spacing growth in agricultural
production and it is putting increasing pressure on erodible soils, grazing lands, water, and fuel wood
supplies (Chapman, Peterson, Smith Moran, 2000). To ensure population stability not only in the
increasingly wealthy third world areas, but also in the industrialized areas, countries and individuals
must work together to achieve controlled population growth.
The earth does not contain enough resources to indefinitely sustain the current enormous population
growth. For instance, there only is a limited area of arable land and living space available to us. China,
home to 1.2 billion people or 1/5 the world s population, is an excellent example of the kinds of
problems that arise in an increasingly crowded society. Trying to increase the standard of living of its
people, China has industrialized and the economy has grown (Hanson, 1995). This increase in wealth
has increased the demand for food in China. The demand is so great that China went from exporting 8
million tons of grain in 1992 to becoming a net importer of 16 million tons of grain in 1994 (China
News Digest, 1995). This causes a worldwide grain shortage that raises prices,

I had just turned ten when my mom first took me to the Salisbury Chess Club. The dilapidated Sage
Diner dressed as if it were in the 50s (Absolute), I was immediately enamored by the chess pieces.
Soon, I established a reputation for myself as a capricious, impatient tactician able to beat all but the
most experienced players. I played with one of the better players, Phil (Appositive), almost every
week. Through those games, I learned many values, like patience and carefulness, that not only apply
to chess but also to life. One late Autumn Wednesday night, after my mom and I had just settled in the
Sage Diner (Preposition), I noticed that there were only a few players. Two of them had already began
a game, so I asked Phil for a chess game.

Benefits Of A Tariff On Goods And Services That Are Imported
A Tariff in general is a comprehensive tax on goods and services that are imported. The main aim of a
tariff is to create security to the domestic product of a nation from the imported goods which are
cheaper and have a huge production capacity. Furthermore tariffs also aid in balancing the prices in a
country. This paper describes the roles tariffs play in a country and also pros and cons of tariffs.
There exist many different forms tariffs in which each is has its own specific operation. Some of the
most notable tariffs include the revenue tariff, prohibitive tariff and protective tariff.
The Revenue Tariff
This tariff is meant to create and accumulate huge amount of government finances. For example a
country that has little product. For it to keep the domestic income strong the government has to install
tariff on the goods which have been imported hence levying the prices. The government thus creates a
security cover for the product of certain import goods that are limited.
Prohibitive tariff
This tariff is normally used to diminish competition between the foreign and domestic producers.
Furthermore it is used to cease foreign imports present in its track. It works in a way similar to an
embargo placed on a specific given country.
Protective tariff
This type of tariff tends to inflate the prices that imported products have set thus creating a positive
price vacuum for locally based industries. Protective tariff highly taxes foreign imports hence forcing
a specific

Nature Vs Nurture Personality Research
Is your personality nature or nurture? Personality is the sum of characteristics which make an
individual unique. An ongoing debate about personality is whether it is personality is inherited and
developed through the environment we live in. There are numerous theories suggested to support both
sides of the debate. The trait theory believes personality is innate and in our genes; therefore supports
the nature and physiological approach to personality. This theoretical approach states that
characteristics are stable and enduring, which enable behaviour to be predicted. Psychologists believe
everyone consists of these traits, although to various degrees. Trait theory emphasises persons

Social learning theory involves psychologist Bandura who believes we learn our behaviour as a result
of observing behaviour from models and reinforcement. The developed of vicarious conditioning
occurs which states that emotional responses occur through observational; an example could include
learning to become aggressive after a valid referee decision has gone against the player by watching
other players on the pitch do the same. Bandura proposed 4 main stages involves in observational
learning. The first stage involves attention, this could involve watching a tennis players stance and
bouncing the ball before they serve. The next stage is retention, which consists of the viewer
remembering that the tennis player closes their eyes and looks relaxed and confident and therefore
associated this with winning. Then, motor reproduction occurs, where the individual imitates the
behaviour. Finally, motivational response occurs; this consists of, the individual repeating the same
behaviour if he wins a game and feels more confident after proceeding to do the behaviour. The social
learning theory consist of various drawbacks, of which include, it is unreliable to predict behaviour. In
addition specific behaviour may occur in a specific situation but appear differently in another
environment. For example, a player may be aggressive and outgoing in football, due to the nature of
the game and the role he players; although may be quiet and timid off the pitch. A further criticism is
that it is reductionist and ignores the possibility of the trait

Tetanus or Lockjaw
Tetanus, also known as lockjaw, is a rare but often times, fatal disease that kills approximately one
million people annually. Tetanus occurs in many countries throughout the world and it remains an
important cause of death. Fortunately, it is a relatively rare disease in the developed world. The
bacterium was first isolated in 1889 by Kitasato Shibasaburō while he was working in Germany with
Robert Koch. Kitasato also found the toxin responsible for causing tetanus and developed the first
vaccine against it. Tetanus is caused by contamination of puncture wounds by the bacteria Clostridium
tetani. Tetanus has been recognized for centuries. The name of the bacterium is derived from two
ancient Greek words tetanos and teinein, meaning taut and stretched, which describes the way that the
neurotoxin releases by the bacteria, tetanospasm, affects the skeletal muscle of those infected. C. tetani
is a gram positive, spore forming, anaerobic bacterium. It is usually found in its dormant form or
spores, and transforms into the rod shaped bacterium only when it multiplies. The bacterium usually
produce the spore at one end of the rod. The spores can last many years in soil, dust, and animal waste
and are very resistant to extreme temperatures. This makes infection of a wound with C. Tetani spores
rather common. However, tetanus only occurs when active bacterial cells are present. These active
cells release two exotoxins, tetanolysin and tetanospasmin. The function of

Summary Of The White Man s Burden
According to William Easterly, the accomplishments of planned development are not impressive. In an
overly simplified process, governments invest capital to provide aid to developing countries (in this
case food aid), it then does not yield a specific result or target, and the aid goes somewhere unintended
(Easterly, 2006). In The White Man s Burden, Easterly discusses the notion that aid aims to please the
donor instead of their electorate, by focusing on the wrong projects, and project impacts are often not
measured scientifically (Easterly, 2006). In other words, development aid does more harm by fostering
a dependency in recipient governments (Diriye, et al., 2014). For developments sake, positive effects
are tarnished by the politicization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Gambia, the government received foreign aid to develop rice projects for the purpose to
increase food security from 1966 to 1984 (Carney, 2008). It is important to note that this period from
1966 to 1984 is a period that evolved from the Second World War. As a result, the justification for aid
and development was to uplift nations from poverty. Furthermore, development was justified as a
moral obligation and as something that advances national interest (Eyoh, 2015). However,
development for the strict purpose of morality or poverty has unintended consequences. According to
Carney, the Gambian government utilized 25,000 hectares of land to facilitate food aid for rice
production. Today, only 10 percent of the initial irrigated land for food aid and food security purposes
remains in production by farmers (Carney, 2008). As these operations emerged, different labour
arrangements (human, mechanical and political) needed to develop in unison. Before the processes
were complete, changes in policy favoured the importation of rice instead of local production (Carney,

10 Reasons Why Abortion Is Evil
In 10 Reasons Why Abortion is Evil Not a Pro Choice , an American Society for Defense of Tradition,
Family and Property student (TFP) states that there are many reasons why someone should disagree
with the idea of Pro Choice. Pro choice is generally referred to as someone having the choice whether
or not to get an abortion. Abortion is defined as the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy.
While the author of this article gave some compelling arguments, I have to disagree with their
opinions. After reading multiple statements from male and female doctors, scientists, and politicians,
on both sides of this controversial debate, I have gathered a substantial amount of information to back
up my pro choice views. I personally do not have any experience with this issue, but I still feel
strongly about it, and here are some of my main points.
The debate over abortion has been going on for almost 50 years, and is still a controversial topic for
most American families today. The two opposing sides are often referred to as ... Show more content

A living human person begins to exist at the moment of conception, even though only as a cell. The
road to human life may begin at conception, but to call abortion murder is ludicrous and a large

considered a living human being. A fetus is a group of cells that are completely dependent on its
mother that cannot live on its own, therefore it should not be considered a human. One of the most
popular arguments on the topic of abortion was the supreme court case Roe V. Wade. This case was

Existentialism, Nihilism, And Objectivism
From the beginning of time people have pondered existence and what it means to truly Be , indeed the
most important questions that one can ask are those of a metaphysical nature. The deeper questions
that seek to explain the reason we re here in the first place, if for any reason at all. It s easy to get lost
in the many differing theories proposed from Determinism to Rationalism to Solipsism to Absurdism
the possible theories one can ascribe as correct are endless. But the ones that try to answer those big
questions in the most general of terms are the ones that seem to hold the most verisimilitude.
Existentialism, Nihilism, and Objectivism are the most general, and although quite different they are
also quite similar. But existentialism seems to be the one which offers the most hope for optimism or
any concern for altruism and personal growth.
To begin with it should be taken into consideration the circumstances in which humanity found itself
in when these sort philosophical musings of ontology became so prevalent among the society of
thinkers and intellectuals. With the turbulence and constant change of the late 19th and 20th century it
only makes sense that people would begin to wonder what it all really means. With wars, genocide,
and poverty contrasted against the unprecedented industrial and technological advances of the time not
to mention the exponential growth in some populations, it became easier and easier to lose one s

Analysis Of The Noachian Flood Deluge
I am arguing that the Noachian Flood Deluge as depicted in the biblical book of Genesis is a fable,
with no basis in reality. My opponent is required to be a creationist who believes in a worldwide flood.
He can not however, just ignore problems and say that God did it. He can t used faith as a justification
for belief, and must prove it with evidence. Of course, positive claims require positive evidence, and
that is what I expect.
Meteorology and Thermodynamics
Leonard G. Soroka and Charles L. Nelson in their Physical Constraints on the Noachian Deluge
examined four separate methods for flood waters, being rain, hypothermic springs, and two types of
cometary impact. None of them work, due to excessive energy and heat.
Rainfall Model
The amount of water presently in the oceans is about 1.37 billion cubic kilometers, and to cover all the
high mountains of the earth would require 4.4 billion additional cubic kilometers or approximately 3
times the amount of water present in the oceans. Not only would this make the air unbreathable due to
it being 99.9% water vapor, atmospheric pressure being 840 times what it is now. Then take the latent
heat of vaporization, when a kilogram of water vapor condenses and 2.26 million joules of energy are
released. This is what powers thunderstorms and hurricanes. Condensing 4.4 billion cubic kilometers
would create 10^26 joules of energy, making the planet 3500 degrees C, temporarily making the
planet the second hottest object in the solar

William Shakespeare s Family Dynamics
Many fathers appear in the works of William Shakespeare, family dynamics are the center of nearly all
his plays. Shakespeare must have known that relations between members of shared bloodlines were
ripe for drama, suspense, and highly emotional content. However, despite the many fathers depicted,
and plays named for them, fathers King Lear and Titus Andronicus stand as share contrasts to one
another. Both have their plays named ominously for them, insinuating that they are the center of the
events, as was expected in during the period when these plays were written and published. Despite the
separate locations and time periods the plays are set in, the patriarchal line of importance remains in
both. However, Titus represents a man who loses the ability to control and protect his children from
sinister others and even himself. Lear, however, suffers the tragedy of being betrayed and harmed by
his own children. In this aspect Lear and Titus represent two extreme examples of fatherhood, and
explore the faults and dangers of each. Titus Andronicus is set in ancient Rome and portrays the
triumphant return of Titus Andronicus, as a war hero, bringing with him the spoils of war in the form
of the Queen of Goths, Tamora, and her three sons. Roman custom dictated a sacrifice be made to as
Titus puts his twenty two sons to rest. Titus selects the eldest of Tamora s son to be used for the

Rhetorical Questions For The Crucible
877: #1, 3 6
1. One phrase in Act Three that made a strong impression on me is said by John Proctor. On page 870,
Proctor says, There might also be a dragon with five legs in my house, but no one has ever seen it. I
found this interesting because it shows how foolish the people are to believe that Elizabeth Proctor is a
witch. The court accuses Elizabeth for keeping a poppet to use it to harm Abigail. Parris claims that
even though nobody has seen poppets in the Proctor household, Elizabeth could still have hidden
them. John Proctor replies with a rhetorical question that shows Parris s accusation as irrational.
3. I think Giles Corey provides comic relief in The Crucible through his dialogue. For example, Corey
says A fart on Thomas Putnam, that is what I say to that! (867). The use of the word fart in a
courtroom setting provides comic relief. Another example is when Corey brings unwanted attention to
his wife. He attempts to defend her from the lies she is being accused from and says that she were

Reflection About Art
I have never been into art or liked the arts for that matter, I cannot draw to save my life and being
creative with art brings my imagination to a halt. When I saw this project, I wasn t sure what I would
use to help make the art, most people I saw were using metals, but I wanted to do something different
and that made me nervous. But I had an even harder time figuring out what I wanted to create. I had
about a million ideas in my head, but had an extremely hard time looking at things that I found and
picturing them all together becoming a sculpture.
I started out with sticks and paper garbage that I had found around my home and the places where I
walk my dogs. I didn t know what I wanted to do with them, but I felt like they were the material I
wanted to use. After I had gathered enough sticks and pieces of paper that I found on the ground I sat
down and tried to brainstorm what I could make. I came up with the idea of getting the sticks together
in a ball and gluing the trash paper on to create the look of the continents and the sticks be a globe. I
figured out very fast that the sticks would not hold together, even after I soaked them in water. I
ditched that idea and moved on to a new one.
I still had all the garbage that I found and figured I could make good use of that. After ditching the
sticks (not on the ground I put them in my green trash can so they could be picked up and disposed of
properly) I focused on the paper materials that I had picked up. I thought

Educational Benefits Of Computer Games
Educational benefits of computer games for kids
Long before computers become common for home use, children from not well up families did not
have access to computers. This means that children did not involve themselves with computers and
computers games too. With computers becoming common not only to offices but homes too, children
are able to access the computer easily and more to it have given up their physical games to involve
themselves with computers games. To this effect, concern have been raised in form of thesis claiming
that children playing computer learning games learn faster and they retain what they have played.
The above thesis is true to some extent because it is taken like experiments done in higher level
education, the task will be retained in one s head. Likewise when a child plays a learning game that
requires he or she to practice a certain activity for a long time that point will stick to that kind s mind
the same way a student will vividly remember an experiment process carried out in the laboratory. It is
also noted that computer learning games form a part of entertainment. Research carried out by
institute of center for study of children, youth and media indicate that it is easier for children to
remember a movie they had watched sometimes back. Likewise through computer video games they
will remember the game as a video. Through this remembering of that game these children will be
recalling an educational concept.
Further indications shows that a

  • 2. Fahrenheit 451 Nature Analysis In the article Nature , Emerson displays the values of nature, and why man cannot grasp the true significance of nature without being in solitude. By presenting the real beauty of nature in a multitude of ways, the author supports his reasoning with valid evidence. Ultimately, the article is intended to render the reader various thoughts about the value of nature. First and foremost, relating to the novel Fahrenheit 451, Montag s journey into nature reflects the one depicted by Emerson in varied ways. For example, Montag took time when he was alone to really look at the stars, is described by Emerson when he states, If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore (Lewis). • 3. American Higher Education Of The Deaf And Dumb At Columbia... Abstract Since the establishment of the division for the deaf and dumb at Columbia University in 1864. American Higher education has been influenced and responsive to changes in federal civil rights protections for students with disabilities while facing both internal and external pressures on how to deal with persons with disabilities. The establishment of students with disabilities in an American higher education context found its start with the admission of students with sensory disabilities, primarily deaf and blind students. Changes because of the world wars poured federal funding into programs to assist veterans with acquired disabilities return to the workforce. The rise of the disability rights movement resulted in the passage of federal protects that mandate the creation of disability support services and bared institutional discrimination at all institutions. These changes saw students with disabilities and the services to support them move from marginalized, and often experimental, into the mainstream of student affairs and higher education. First Research Essay for American Higher Education Many historical studies of American higher education cover the development of academia as well the development of the institutions themselves. Further, in recent years historical scholars have introduced the development of previously underserved student communities in higher education such as Women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gustave Caillebotte s Paris Street; Rainy Day Essay Gustave Caillebotte s Paris Street; Rainy Day The first thing that strikes me is the size of the work. About seven feet tall and nine feet wide, this painting dominates its gallery and overwhelms the viewer. The couple in the foreground of the painting is nearly life size, and with the man poised to take another step it seems he might climb right over the frame and walk right into the gallery. The bold perspective thrusts the scene outward, and with details such as the sharply receding roofline of the main building and the acute tilt of the street, geometric and visual effects are created which push and pull the viewer and instill the painting with action. This work is more complex and detailed then one might first imagine, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He tilts his umbrella to the right so as to avoid collision with the couple who neither pay him attention nor show any signs of tilting their umbrella in deference. A green (a color which stands out) gas lamp separates these three from the rest of the painting, and also divides the canvas in half. A little further back a lone man is crossing the street, looking down in a manner which suggests inward thinking but also illustrates the reality of the wet and mucky road on which one must watch their step. The rest of the figures receive less influence, but a few of them are certainly worth noting. Directly to the left of the protagonist s head two women walk away from the viewer. Their symmetry is visually enticing. Also, above the wagon wheel on the left side of the painting a man is crossing the street. He piqued my attention because of the odd position of his body and feet it looks as if he is almost doing a jig. Lastly, one might note how the front couple s umbrella pole occludes a woman s head in the background; she in turn holds an umbrella that obscures the head of a workman with ladder behind her; a curious compositional detail to say the least. The surface of the painting is characterized mostly by relatively broad painterly brushstrokes which in that singularly impressionistic manner allow the stuff of paint to really show. Even though the picture appears much more finished and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Two Speechs Of Diodotus In the fourth year of the Peloponnesian War, the city of Mytilene, revolts against Athens and conspires with Sparta and asks for their assistance. However, these plans for revolt are reported to Athens, who send an army against Mytilene. While under siege, Mytilene s democratic faction gives up and decides to surrender to Athens. When the Athenian leaders first meet to decide about the fate of the Mytilene people, they decree that all the Mytilene men be put to death, while the women and children be enslaved. The following day, the Athenians decide to put all Mytilene s to death not just the guilty. However, this time an assembly is called to persuade Athenian officials to reconsider their death penalty. During this assembly, there are two speeches given; one by Cleon and the other by Diodotus; these will be explored in detail in the following paragraphs. As I read Thucydides summary, the two speeches serve as contrasts, illustrating the difference between bad and good arguments. Through the following themes/conclusions that will be explored/applied in the paper, this paper argues that Diodotus, not Cleon, makes the better argument: i) Cleon uses the language of un justice, punishment, irrationality and extreme emotions, which makes his disposition unreasonable; ii) Diodotus uses the language of rationality, justice and intellect which form the basis of a strong argument. The first way in which Cleon is irrational is through the first half of his speech; he starts off by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Insanity Of Juvenile Crimes My stance on this particular situation is that the mental capacity of an individual would be a huge factor in determining whether their sanity played any part in the felony they committed. Overall, I do believe that everyone should be held accountable for their own actions. The researcher needs a solution that s reliable to use and appropriate to administer in a classroom setting. The issue, although prevalent throughout the district, is still unique in the parameters of this fourth grade class. It is not the goal of the researcher to generalize their findings to a large population, but instead to meet the needs and weaknesses of a single group of students with which the researcher interacts with regularly. Proposed Research Design The researcher will use action research to collect both quantitative and qualitative data. The main objective of this research is to positively affect students ability to solve word problems effectively and efficiently. Therefore, the quantitative data will measure their growth from before and after intervention. The qualitative data will gather students responses regarding the benefits of using/reusing taught methods. In the first story, The Sisters, a young boy is confronted with the death of an influencing figure in his life. The women in Eveline and Clay are haunted by death: Eveline, by the memory of her mother, and Maria, by the omen of her own death. A Painful Case is the story of the tragic death of a rejected woman. I mean what kind of authors would they be if they wrote the same exact story. I hope that by reading this essay you gain a better understanding of both books as well as what they have in common and what is different between them. In The Hobbit the battle comes at the end of the book and in the Odyssey it is the battle of Troy that occurs in the beginning of the story that starts our adventure. I think the major theme is that through perseverance and hard work you can achieve great strides in completing your goal, and that it is only by relying on others as well as yourself that those goal(s) can be achieved. During these events we can understand some major plot similarities. Some shared plot points that I discovered while reading. For instance both adventures are started by another source. In the Odyssey Goddess Athena descends from the heavens after convincing her father, the Son of Cronus, Zeus to allow Odysseus to return home. Once she arrives in Ithaca, she sets Telemachus on his adventure to learn more information about his father whereabouts. This is like Gandalf the Gray arriving in the Shire to set Bilbo on his mission with Thorin to reclaim the mountain from Smaug. Another major part would be the obstacles that stand in their way. Mostly in the form of Monsters and other beings. The Odyssey features some creatures famous in greek mythology such as the Cyclops, Polyphemus, the beasts Scylla and Charybdis, the Sirens, and the God Helios and Goddesses Circe and Calypso. • 18. Character Analysis Of Andrew In Fly Away Home By Eve Bunting Hopefull. That describes Andrew in Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting. Andrew lives in a airport. He want the live a normal life but he can t because he s stuck in an airport without a home. Though in a tough situation he still manages to keep a positive attitude, and he also is helpful. He is so young yet he is still hopeful. How would you react living in an airport since you were young, well Andrew manages to keep a positive attitude. In the story Andrew said My dad and I live in the airport, that s because we don t have a home and the airport is better than the streets. This shows his attitude while living in the airport it s tough but he does not want to show his dad that he truly wants to live in a house. Andrew tries to stay positive through the situation he s going through. But he is a lot more positive than most people would be in his predicament. Another example on how Andrew is positive is when he saw the bird get stuck in the airport, Don t stop trying! he told it silently. Don t! You can get out. This part is significant to the story by showing how he is encouraging the bird to continue trying, that the bird can get out. But this makes me wonder if maybe he was just talking to himself because he has no one to help him stay positive. His dad surely does not encourage him his dad likes it at the airport his dad does not understand what Andrew really wants, yet Andrew still fights and he still has hope. The last example on how Andrew is positive is when he said Then I remember the bird, It took awhile but a door opened and when the bird left, when it flew free, I knew it was singing. It is important to notice that before he said this he almost lost hope, he got mad at the people around him because they had more than him. But he then tried to focus on something positive this shows that he truly wants to have hope and be positive. Many people face challenges all the time. But the character Andrew in fly away home lives in an airport and helps his dad to get out. Even though Andrew is just a kid he doesn t complain about all the walking and trying not to get noticed. This is helpful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Kohlberg s theory in a critical manner, looking at the positive aspects of his research and the disadvantages of the types of situations he gave in his experiments, the universal accuracy of his results and the controversial findings of sex differences in regards to morality. Kohlberg advanced Piaget s theory of moral development and interviewed 10 13 year old boys to find out how they would attempt to resolve moral issues. These issues varied between situations that involved obeying the law, authority figure or rule and ones that would conflict these rules in order to serve a human need. From the answers that were given Kohlberg devised three levels, each split up into two stages, that he believed were universally found and that every person went through to advance their levels of morality (Shaffer Kipp, 2007). One of the major advantages of using Kohlberg s theory of moral development over Piaget s is the universal nature of the findings. Colby Kohlberg, (1987) found a strong positive correlation between age and maturity levels of moral reasoning in the United States, Mexico, the Bahamas, Taiwan, Turkey, Honduras, India, Nigeria and Kenya. The Earth s capacity to support people is determined both by natural constraints and by human choices concerning economics, environment, culture (including values and politics), and demography. With an exponentially increasing population, the problems created by overpopulation grow correspondingly. Population growth is out spacing growth in agricultural production and it is putting increasing pressure on erodible soils, grazing lands, water, and fuel wood supplies (Chapman, Peterson, Smith Moran, 2000). To ensure population stability not only in the increasingly wealthy third world areas, but also in the industrialized areas, countries and individuals must work together to achieve controlled population growth. The earth does not contain enough resources to indefinitely sustain the current enormous population growth. For instance, there only is a limited area of arable land and living space available to us. The dilapidated Sage Diner dressed as if it were in the 50s (Absolute), I was immediately enamored by the chess pieces. I played with one of the better players, Phil (Appositive), almost every week. Through those games, I learned many values, like patience and carefulness, that not only apply to chess but also to life. • 31. Benefits Of A Tariff On Goods And Services That Are Imported A Tariff in general is a comprehensive tax on goods and services that are imported. The main aim of a tariff is to create security to the domestic product of a nation from the imported goods which are cheaper and have a huge production capacity. Furthermore tariffs also aid in balancing the prices in a country. This paper describes the roles tariffs play in a country and also pros and cons of tariffs. There exist many different forms tariffs in which each is has its own specific operation. Some of the most notable tariffs include the revenue tariff, prohibitive tariff and protective tariff. The Revenue Tariff This tariff is meant to create and accumulate huge amount of government finances. For example a country that has little product. For it to keep the domestic income strong the government has to install tariff on the goods which have been imported hence levying the prices. The government thus creates a security cover for the product of certain import goods that are limited. Prohibitive tariff This tariff is normally used to diminish competition between the foreign and domestic producers. Furthermore it is used to cease foreign imports present in its track. It works in a way similar to an embargo placed on a specific given country. Protective tariff This type of tariff tends to inflate the prices that imported products have set thus creating a positive price vacuum for locally based industries. Protective tariff highly taxes foreign imports hence forcing a specific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An ongoing debate about personality is whether it is personality is inherited and developed through the environment we live in. There are numerous theories suggested to support both sides of the debate. The trait theory believes personality is innate and in our genes; therefore supports the nature and physiological approach to personality. This theoretical approach states that characteristics are stable and enduring, which enable behaviour to be predicted. Psychologists believe everyone consists of these traits, although to various degrees. Trait theory emphasises persons response and not the situation they are in. there are 2 major ... The developed of vicarious conditioning occurs which states that emotional responses occur through observational; an example could include learning to become aggressive after a valid referee decision has gone against the player by watching other players on the pitch do the same. Bandura proposed 4 main stages involves in observational learning. The first stage involves attention, this could involve watching a tennis players stance and bouncing the ball before they serve. The next stage is retention, which consists of the viewer remembering that the tennis player closes their eyes and looks relaxed and confident and therefore associated this with winning. Then, motor reproduction occurs, where the individual imitates the behaviour. Finally, motivational response occurs; this consists of, the individual repeating the same behaviour if he wins a game and feels more confident after proceeding to do the behaviour. The social learning theory consist of various drawbacks, of which include, it is unreliable to predict behaviour. In addition specific behaviour may occur in a specific situation but appear differently in another environment. For example, a player may be aggressive and outgoing in football, due to the nature of the game and the role he players; although may be quiet and timid off the pitch. • 33. Tetanus or Lockjaw Tetanus, also known as lockjaw, is a rare but often times, fatal disease that kills approximately one million people annually. Tetanus occurs in many countries throughout the world and it remains an important cause of death. Fortunately, it is a relatively rare disease in the developed world. The bacterium was first isolated in 1889 by Kitasato Shibasaburō while he was working in Germany with Robert Koch. Kitasato also found the toxin responsible for causing tetanus and developed the first vaccine against it. Tetanus is caused by contamination of puncture wounds by the bacteria Clostridium tetani. Tetanus has been recognized for centuries. The name of the bacterium is derived from two ancient Greek words tetanos and teinein, meaning taut and stretched, which describes the way that the neurotoxin releases by the bacteria, tetanospasm, affects the skeletal muscle of those infected. C. tetani is a gram positive, spore forming, anaerobic bacterium. It is usually found in its dormant form or spores, and transforms into the rod shaped bacterium only when it multiplies. The bacterium usually produce the spore at one end of the rod. The spores can last many years in soil, dust, and animal waste and are very resistant to extreme temperatures. This makes infection of a wound with C. Tetani spores rather common. However, tetanus only occurs when active bacterial cells are present. These active cells release two exotoxins, tetanolysin and tetanospasmin. The function of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In an overly simplified process, governments invest capital to provide aid to developing countries (in this case food aid), it then does not yield a specific result or target, and the aid goes somewhere unintended (Easterly, 2006). In The White Man s Burden, Easterly discusses the notion that aid aims to please the donor instead of their electorate, by focusing on the wrong projects, and project impacts are often not measured scientifically (Easterly, 2006). In other words, development aid does more harm by fostering a dependency in recipient governments (Diriye, et al., 2014). As a result, the justification for aid and development was to uplift nations from poverty. Furthermore, development was justified as a moral obligation and as something that advances national interest (Eyoh, 2015). However, development for the strict purpose of morality or poverty has unintended consequences. According to Carney, the Gambian government utilized 25,000 hectares of land to facilitate food aid for rice production. Today, only 10 percent of the initial irrigated land for food aid and food security purposes remains in production by farmers (Carney, 2008). My opponent is required to be a creationist who believes in a worldwide flood. He can not however, just ignore problems and say that God did it. He can t used faith as a justification for belief, and must prove it with evidence. Of course, positive claims require positive evidence, and that is what I expect. Meteorology and Thermodynamics Leonard G. Soroka and Charles L. Nelson in their Physical Constraints on the Noachian Deluge examined four separate methods for flood waters, being rain, hypothermic springs, and two types of cometary impact. None of them work, due to excessive energy and heat. Rainfall Model The amount of water presently in the oceans is about 1.37 billion cubic kilometers, and to cover all the high mountains of the earth would require 4.4 billion additional cubic kilometers or approximately 3 times the amount of water present in the oceans. Not only would this make the air unbreathable due to it being 99.9% water vapor, atmospheric pressure being 840 times what it is now. Then take the latent heat of vaporization, when a kilogram of water vapor condenses and 2.26 million joules of energy are released. This is what powers thunderstorms and hurricanes. Shakespeare must have known that relations between members of shared bloodlines were ripe for drama, suspense, and highly emotional content. Both have their plays named ominously for them, insinuating that they are the center of the events, as was expected in during the period when these plays were written and published. Despite the separate locations and time periods the plays are set in, the patriarchal line of importance remains in both. However, Titus represents a man who loses the ability to control and protect his children from sinister others and even himself. Lear, however, suffers the tragedy of being betrayed and harmed by his own children. On page 870, Proctor says, There might also be a dragon with five legs in my house, but no one has ever seen it. I found this interesting because it shows how foolish the people are to believe that Elizabeth Proctor is a witch. The court accuses Elizabeth for keeping a poppet to use it to harm Abigail. Parris claims that even though nobody has seen poppets in the Proctor household, Elizabeth could still have hidden them. John Proctor replies with a rhetorical question that shows Parris s accusation as irrational. 3. I think Giles Corey provides comic relief in The Crucible through his dialogue. For example, Corey says A fart on Thomas Putnam, that is what I say to that! (867). The use of the word fart in a courtroom setting provides comic relief. When I saw this project, I wasn t sure what I would use to help make the art, most people I saw were using metals, but I wanted to do something different and that made me nervous. But I had an even harder time figuring out what I wanted to create. I had about a million ideas in my head, but had an extremely hard time looking at things that I found and picturing them all together becoming a sculpture. I started out with sticks and paper garbage that I had found around my home and the places where I walk my dogs. I didn t know what I wanted to do with them, but I felt like they were the material I wanted to use. After I had gathered enough sticks and pieces of paper that I found on the ground I sat down and tried to brainstorm what I could make. I came up with the idea of getting the sticks together in a ball and gluing the trash paper on to create the look of the continents and the sticks be a globe. I figured out very fast that the sticks would not hold together, even after I soaked them in water. I ditched that idea and moved on to a new one. I still had all the garbage that I found and figured I could make good use of that.
