The story A P by John Updike constructs a simply characterized, a transition from childhood to
adulthood, searing honest and often wildly funny thoughts of a 19 year old grocery store clerk at
a small town in New England. Eventually teenager develop easily the capacity for falling in a
romantic emotions. It is an integral part of Growing Up and that is the theme. From the beginning,
the narrator itself is the main character of the story, it s Sammy. He talks about the sheep or
followers in his town. To him, everybody acts and dresses the same way. But one day, three girls in
bathing suits came into the store and making spectacle to themselves and Sammy immediately

The Odyssey, Medea, And Oedipus The King
While our class has been covering different aspects of Greek civilization, I was assigned to read
the literature from that time period. Some examples of the literature I read was The Iliad, The
Odyssey, Medea, and Oedipus The King. These readings show direct relations to the concepts and
ideas that occurred in Greek civilization during this time in history. Some of the recurring themes
throughout these stories are religion, philosophy, and hospitality. Polytheism, fate, and hospitality
towards others are some of the important concepts that were held by the Greeks. The religious views
of the Greek civilization is evident throughout the literature of that time period. The Greeks were
known to have been a Polytheistic people, who believed in multiple gods/goddesses. They
believed these gods constantly interfered with their lives, both in good and bad ways, which is
shown in the literature. Not only do the characters pray or converse with these... Show more content

One important value the Greeks held was hospitality. In The Odyssey, Odysseus travels through
many different places. As he encounters new people, they often welcome him in immediately. In
fact, hospitality was so common that whenever Odysseus encounters the island inhabited by
cyclops, he assumes he is welcome and begins to eat their food and drink. The concept of
hospitality in the literary works connects not only to their civilization in general, but specifically
connects with their religious beliefs. I believe it is possible that the Greeks gave hospitality to
others on behalf of their gods/goddesses rather than just out of kindness. One example of this
would be in the Iliad, where Achilles welcomes in other men such as Odysseus to his hut and
prepares them food. He does this before asking about their intentions. This seems a little weird by
today s standards, as this happened before Achilles had joined their side in

Analysis Of Songs Of Rebellion
Matthew Caruso Beverly Mitchell Arts Culture II April 6, 2017 Songs of Rebellion Smashing
anything from pumpkins to instruments, Rock Roll is a form of art with flare. Generations of
people from the 50 s to modern day have enjoyed a little bit of rebellion in their life. But while the
rebels continue to rage against the machine of society, that society is constantly changing. Different
issues become highlighted and more relevant as others fall to the wayside, but Rock music does
not stand by jovially. With constant adapting and innovating, Rock Roll always finds something to
scream about. The history of Rock begins around the 50 s, right off the cusp of World War II. The

By the end of the decade, however Rock was taken over by big business, and what used to be a
provocative sound turned into songs about teen appropriate issues such as school, parents,
young love, etc. By the end of the 50 s and beginning of the 60 s rock had somewhat died down
and become tamer. many thought it was dead until the mid 60 s. Rock Roll had a resurgence,
known as The British Invasion . While things had settled down in the US, England had been
inspired. Groups from Britain like the Rolling Stones and the Beatles brought a fresh style,
infusing British Rhythm and Blues and Jazz into what they played. This revival propelled the
genre down two different paths. Many groups came onto the scene and continued to make more of
the same teen appropriate pop style music. others pushed boundaries in an industry heavily
influenced by drugs, spawning the phrase, Sex, Drugs, and Rock Roll . The Beatles were at the
center of it all, experimenting with different sounds and instruments. Their experimentations
became part of a larger movement, known as psychedelic rock, which included the likes of Jimi
Hendrix and Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd was one of the first bands to use laser lights in their concerts.
What s more psychedelic than that? Hendrix even took it a step further, creating what many call
Acid Rock. Additionally, the Beatles were not just trendsetters with their music, but also with
fashion, sporting hair that was abnormally long for men at the

The Financial Reporting Council ( Frc )
The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has recently released four new standards: FRS 100
Application of Financial Reporting Requirements; FRS 101 Reduced Disclosure Framework;
FRS 102 The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland; and
FRS 103 Insurance Contacts. FRS 100 basically describes who does what with the new UK
GAAP. It describes which principles apply to which type of business; when a business can apply
the reduced disclosure framework; and when a business should follow a statement of recommended
practices, or SORP. FRS 101 lays out a reduced disclosure framework for entities. Certain entities

This act modified the methods for many different subjects, such as financial and non financial
reporting, company communications with shareholders, and the responsibilities of company
heads. The main role of the Act is to get managers to act in the best interests of shareholders. It
additionally requires managers to think about the long term effects of decisions; the welfares of
the business s staff; the business s connections alongside suppliers, clients, and others; and the
impression of the company s procedures on the surrounding area. The Company Law Review
Group was established by the government in 1998 in order to contemplate ways to modernize
company law. The Company Law Review guidelines were the starting point for the modifications
suggested by the Company Law Reform White Paper released in 2005. Then the White Paper
proposals turned into an outline for a Bill, which then finally received official approval and passed
in 2006, (companieshouse.gov.uk, 2014). Some of the main effects of the Companies Act on
private companies are: an individual and simplified model of Articles of Association; individual
requirements for accounting and reporting; no requirement for a company secretary; no
requirement for an annual meeting; and simplified rules about share capital,
(companieshouse.gov.uk, 2014). The key benefits of the Companies Act for shareholders

The traditional shift pattern is essential for the operation of the hospitality industry. Employers and
the organization often claim that the flexibility provided offers workers work family balance and
other lifestyle benefit. The reality, however is that little is known that long undesirable working
hours affects the health or safety of the employees. Based on the study conducted on thirty nine
employees from two five star hotels (Bohle, Philip et al, 2004) review a shocking results as there
is a negative effects of undesirable working hours included poor sleep, irregular exercise,
unhealthy and irregular meals, interference with tertiary study and disrupted social and family
lives. The employees basically don t have a life at all working in the hotel industry. Even when
not working, they tended to just stay at home and chronically tired. This indirectly will bring the
overall productivity going down. As many think the longer one is working is thus aggravating the
inefficiency in the industry. There is lots of evidence shows that overwork is not just neutral.

Exile In Early Modern Europe
Exile has played an important part in the story of Early Modern Europe, and in regards to
England, it can be said to have bookmarked a large section of the dynastic period. The period
began with Henry Tudor returning from exile to become king while at the far end James II taking
flight into exile after the Glorious Revolution. In the middle of this time, exile is again
demonstrated by Charles II managing escape abroad during the Civil War, returning in the
restoration of 1660. With this in mind though it seems major elements in the history of the Catholic
diaspora were neglected in studies of the Reformation, with previous research undertaken as being

Is Santa Claus Really Real?

Christmas is around the corner and excitement is on. Santa is checking off his last list of gifts and
everyone is happy. But wait, is there a real Santa anyways?
The long awaited moment of truth has recently been discovered and it proves that Santa, the red
suited guy who hopped through our chimneys, is real. Many adults, nowadays, once used to believe
when they were kids that Santa is Real and he comes with his reindeers to give them gifts,
unfortunately, it was not really the Santa who came and gifted them, but it was their parents.
The myths of the existence of Santa was still like a mystery to a lot.
Mr. Torda, a Biology teacher in the Mayfield High school and the head of the Science
Department, said, When I was a kid, I wondered if Santa was real or not. Like when my parents
used to say to me, There is this guy named Santa, who had a workshop and build all the toys,
wraps them, deliver them and like that. Many kids in the present moment wonder about Santa, and
the reindeers, and the stories of Santa make them believe that a guy with flying reindeers would
ride his sleigh all the way to give the kids, some awesome presents. ... Show more content on

Organizational Functions And Employee Relations During The...
Since the turn of the 19th century, there has been a dramatic overhaul of administrative practices.
Through trial and error, organizations have altered their management practices in pursuit of better
results. These changes in administrative theory can be sorted into five different themes. This
includes organization functions, employee relations, open systems, social equity, and client
oriented (Cronkhite, 2012). Each theme provides a unique perspective on how to run a successful
agency. The purpose of this paper will be focusing on the themes of organization functions and
employee relations during the industrial era.
Before discussing the administrative theories, it is important to understand the historical context
behind these theories. The industrial era is the time period from the 1880s to the 1950s, which
represents the aftermath of the industrial revolution (Cronkhite, 2012). The industrial revolution is
often revered for its significant advancements in technology and manufacturing. There was a
striking shift in focus from agricultural goods to manufactured goods in factory settings (Harley,
2003). This influenced a mass migration of the population from rural areas to bustling cities
(Harley, 2003). Commencing an age of economic prosperity and dominance in America.
Despite this significant advancement in industry and economic growth, the industrial era
introduced an abundance of problems (Harley, 2003). Horrifying living conditions, overcrowding,
child labor, and

Should Legal System Be Used To Resolve Purposeful Misconduct
The legal system should be used to resolve purposeful misconduct; instead frivolous lawsuits
have affected every aspect of our society because individuals with legitimate grievances have
been trivialized to a get rich quick mentality that is permeating American society. There was a
time if someone spilled coffee on their lap or tripped on a raised sidewalk, they called
themselves clumsy, but today they call an attorney. Attorneys have created the mindset that
anyone can win the legal lottery by suing over situations that could have been resolved by
simply turning the other cheek. To turn the other cheek, is a biblical instruction to urge people
to be motivated by love and to have a desire for the redemption and forgiveness of offenders in
lieu of personal revenge and/or vengeance. It was also not intended for people to be passive
victims nor suffer in silence and refuse to seek legal protection if a person provoked another into a
confrontation with a literal slap or with stinging sarcasm the person slapped should avoid retaliating
by simply turning the other cheek. Legal historian William Nelson argues that no topic has... Show

After the Norman conquest of England in 1066, William the Conqueror brought Norman law that

Study Of Organisms Living On The Rocky Shore Essay
On Wednesday the 9th of March, Students from Sacred Heart College Travelled by Bus to Siren s
Rock s which lies between Owhiro Bay and Island Bay. At Siren s rocks we had to explore the
rocks and collect data of all the different species we found at the rocky shore. The rocky shore is
an intertidal place where solid rocks predominate. It is useful for the study of Organisms living on
the rocky shore. The rocky shore consists of the low tide, mid tide, high tide and splash zones. We
used quadrats to sample which species was located in these zones and we did this when the tide
was low. Quadrats is a sampling method used to see which organisms are located in certain
proportions. The species I have chosen to talk about in my report today is one type of Limpet and
one type of Top Shell. The common name for the Limpet I found is the Golden/ Radiate Limpet of
whose scientific name is Cellana Radians which was found in the lower intertidal zone. The Cellana
Radians is predated by starfish, whelks and shore birds. The Limpet is an herbivore because it

Enzyme Catalase Experiment
Introduction:
Within a cell, enzymes are used as a catalyst to increase the rate of chemical reaction. They do not
consume themselves, rather they help in increasing the rate of reaction. Within the body, enzymes
vary depending on their specific functions. For instance, hydrogen peroxide is a toxic chemical, but
it breaks down into harmless oxygen and water. This reaction can be sped up using the enzyme
catalyst produced by yeast. Hydrogen peroxide is produced as a byproduct in cellular reaction,
because it is poisonous and must be broken down, therefore this reaction is important. The speeding
up of the reaction is shown below:
2H2O (aq) catalyses 2H2O (l) + O2 (g)
This experiment is designed to analyze how the enzyme catalase activity is affected by the pH
levels. The experiment has also been designed to outline all of the directions and the ways by
which the observation can be made clearly and accurately. Yeast, will be used as the enzyme and
hydrogen peroxide will be used as a substrate. This experiment will be used to determine the effects
of the concentration of the hydrogen peroxide versus the rate of reaction of the enzyme catalase.
Hypothesis:
The presence of catalyst will cause hydrogen peroxide to break down into water and oxygen. The
increase in the pH of the substrate will cause the increase in the rate of reaction. It will optimize at
pH 7 and will diminish/moderate after pH 9.
The important questions that will help clarify the

Why Did The Russian Civil War Start
The Russian Civil War began in October of 1918. An uprising in Petrograd lit the match and
things were on a roll. The Bolsheviks gained power and were bound to be challenged for it. A
major country that opposed the Bolsheviks were the Social Revolutionaries. When the
Revolutionaries were held back by Bolshevik guards, they fired back at them by attacking their
Bolshevik government. The countries that opposed the Bolsheviks were the Revolutionaries as
mentioned before, the Mensheviks ( who once controlled the Provisional Government), and the
Tsarists (who wanted to put Nicholas the second at the throne after rescuing him). The second
reason that the civil war started was because of the Czech region. Czech Prisoners were being

They grew rapidly in size and by the end of the civil war against the Whites, they had managed to
accumulate a military five million soldiers strong. 75% of their total soldiers were peasants by
birth. This created a major problem for the Bolsheviks in the social race. The peasant population
was so vast that it was thought whoever could gain their vote and popularity would have the most
power. In October of 1917 their support had been confined to the working class districts
associated with big industry cities. Without any support in the countryside, where most people
lived, No one thought that the Bolsheviks would hold power for more than just a few weeks.
Many people thought, and for good reason, that the peasants would rise up against them, because
of all the power they obtained together. However, the Red Army won the civil war after many
blood covered battles they fought to gain the upperhand. One main reason was because of their
superior success in things they did with politics and army decisions, compared to the

How Does Magic Play In A Midsummer Night s Dream
A dream is an unrealistic or self deluding fantasy. A Midsummer Night s Dream is a romantic
comedy that is written by William Shakespeare. It was one of the most popular plays written during
that time. In A Midsummer Night s Dream, William Shakespeare discusses the importance of magic
in dreams, nightmares the actors have while sleeping, and how love can persuade the actor having
the dream.
In the play A Midsummer Night s Dream, magic plays a big role in Titania and Bottom s dream.
When Oberon found out that Titania is raising a foster child, he sprinkles a magic love potion on
her eyes while she sleeps. This love potion will make her fall in love with the first thing that she
sees when she wakes. Meanwhile, Bottom and others gather in the woods to practice a play to
perform for King Theseus. As Bottom was waiting for his cue, Puck transforms his head into the
head of an ass. After the men saw Bottom, they ran with fear. All alone, Bottom started to sing to
prove he was not afraid. As he started to sing, Titania woke with the question What angel wakes
me from my flowery bed? As Titania falls in love with Bottom, Oberon takes the child for his own.

The Lost Boys Analysis
St. John argues that when individuals fear change, it creates more problems and conflicts.
However, if people were to embrace change, then this would enhance the lives of all people

At one point the the book, you meet a man named Nathaniel Nyok. He wanted to use Armistead

friends went to the park to scrimmage. It wasn t long before the first squad car showed up from
the Clarkston Police Department... Nyok called Coach Cooper, who confirmed that the Lost Boys

Nyok asked for an explanation, he said, the police refused to respond. (89). St. John initially shows
that the city through Coach Cooper wanted to appear to accommodate the refugees by saying that
Cooper was pleasant and happy to schedule . This was then contradicted by the actions of the police

of acceptance, there ultimate fear of the unknown and change led them to prevent the Lost Boys

situation where they could not prevail. The Lost Boys

Indians Stereotypes
The position of several Native Indians people in the United States today is due to colonization of
the Americas almost five centuries ago. Since the conquest and appropriation of their land, Native
Indians have experienced several mishaps and complications. They are continuously discriminated
against to where they are even excluded from political and social issues in our society. Indians are
often labeled with stereotypes that are detrimental and destructive. In fact, if an average United
Statesians was to describe their idea and thoughts of what Native Indians are like, one would get a
list of stereotypical behaviors that is seemingly unfavorable and negative. Collectively, the invasion
of the Americas, exclusion in social and political implementation of Native Indian rights, and the
generalization of Native Indians have caused incredible internal and external damage in their
culture. This leaves a huge number of casualties amongst these people from their ancestors to today
s generation. Casualties of the Native Indian people stem from stereotypes and forms of racism
imposed by those who colonized the United Statesof America nearly five centuries ago, and still

The Pros And Cons Of The Alberta Oil Sands
Have you ever thought about if the Alberta Oil Sands are an economic and environmentally
sufficient enough that we should still utilize the resource of oil? The Alberta Oil Sands also
known as the tar sands were first mined in 1967 and ever since they have done a great deal to
Alberta s economic stability. The issue is that all good things have a bad side as well. Some main
disadvantages to the oil sands is that natural habitats get destroyed, creates greenhouse gas
emissions which are harmful to humans and the environment and the issue of is it more
environmentally friendly to use another source for energy such as methane?

Some pros of the oils sands are they made Canada the biggest supplier of oil to the US which
allowed for the beginning of a fruitful economic partnership. The oil sands are also a stable
source of energy due to the oil sands being the second largest site in the world. Alberta has
flourished due to the oils sands which creates thousands of jobs for locals. On the downside
there are also cons to every project. Some disadvantages to the oils sands are since the oil is so
deep underground; the process of extraction is very carbon intense which creates more
greenhouse gas. Thousands of bird species have a loss of their breeding grounds due to the fact
that the mining operation is located where the breeding ground used to be. As of right now and
our rate of consumption of oil we have approximately only 40 years worth of oil left. Some
people say that we rely on the oils sands too much and eventually we will have to find a new
source of energy. I say, for now it s fair to say that we will have an issue in the future about
energy but for as of now it is not a huge problem. In my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons on
the sole fact that we have this resource at our disposal and we might as well take advantage of
what God has given us. From what I understand is that we are also reconstructing the landscape
once we are finished with the sites so the native species will be able to inhabit the area once

A way we try to minimise this impact is by buying whole cases so the suppliers can use the
original packaging and not having to repackage split cases. A major environmental impact that is
occurs when bringing in resources is through the transportation of them. In order to minimise the
impact this has on the environment we try to source our suppliers locally and minimise the amount
of deliveries we have a week.
In order to obtain resources we must ensure that we go to an appropriate supplier which has been
approved by the company. The approved suppliers have all been check and their support staff
have to go though an induction type process so they understand our fire regulations and

Essay On Lord Krishna
Description
Lord Krishna is one of the most popular Gods in Hinduism. Krishna is considered the supreme
deity, worshipped across many traditions of Hinduism in a variety of different perspectives.
Krishna is recognized as the eighth incarnation (avatar) of Lord Vishnu, and one and the same as
Lord Vishnu, one of the trimurti and as the supreme god in his own right. Krishna is the principal
protagonist with Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita also known as the Song of God, which depicts the
conversation between the Royal Prince Arjuna and Krishna during the great battle of Kureksetra
5000 years ago where Arjuna discovers that Krishna is God and then comprehends his nature and
will for him and for mankind. In present age Krishna is one of the most widely revered and most
popular of all Indian divinities.
Each incarnation of Lord Vishnu on the Earth is with a purpose and to accomplish some definite
tasks. Lord Krishna came to the Earth to kill king Kansa and to relieve the people of Braj from his
torture and tyranny. Later Krishna participated in the events of the Mahabharata and Lord Krishna

Global Warming Position Paper
Although some believe that Global Warming has been created due to manmade pollutants, I
believe that Global Warming is a natural process that has been accelerated due to the excess
emissions of pollutants from nature and manmade devices into the atmosphere. The world has been
said to be on a cycle of global warmingand cooling, this process can neither be stopped nor
prevented, but it can be accelerated with the addition of non natural emissions from automobiles

Slowing the process of global warming would allow us, as a worldwide power, to take
preventative measures that could cut back the amount of damage that global warming can cause
though it would be hard, if we could cut back on work hours of large factories and put together
more public transportation for the working class then we could slow global warming within the
next few years. This idea, if enacted, has the potential to harm the economy of many nations,
because the working hours would be cut in factories that employ thousands of employees, but it
also can allow for scientists and engineers to come up with a plan that could prevent/lower the
amount of risk we have environmentally from being impacted by global warming and its effects.
It has the potential to harm the economy of other nations, because shortening the amount of
hours that their factories are allowed to run can raise production time and cost this would lead
to the increase in price of items, because it would take more money and time to produce these
goods rather than if they were able to work for a longer amount of time and produce more goods
in this time period. The reward outweighs the risk, though; this is because if global warming is not

Why Is Individuality Important
In a time like the 21st century, individuality is especially important. Everywhere you go there s a
person that s trying to either be themselves or they re trying to be like someone else. Everyone
has her own sense of uniqueness, some people either keep it to themselves, or they like to make it
known that they are different. Individuality is the genre of music you like, it s the hobbies you like
to do in your free time, it s the little thingsyou do that define who you are. Finding your personal
individuality is a part of life. Throughout life you have been surrounded by things that will shape
who you are and those thing will help determine who you will become to be.
It is important to express your selfness. In order to do that you must be comfortable with who
you are and you must accept the fact that you are unlike anyone else. This isn t a bad thing at all.

Some people think that being yourself is a bad excuse to be selfish and to not conform to
society. Personally I think that establishing your individuality is important to do because people
need to express who they are and not try to be like each other. For example, I rap and in order to
gain fans I try to distinguish myself from other rappers on Soundcloud because if not, no one will
want to make music with me which will make it even harder to become known. Growing up as a
kid I didn t exactly fit in with all the other popular kids. As i got older it meant more to me to be
who I am. Come to find out i fit in more if i was just myself. I realized that I m not that different
from other people because some people are just as weird as me. That s when I realized individuality
is something to not be ashamed of. No two people are exactly alike and I feel that it s a part of life

Income as a determinant primarily refers to the amount of money made by a family or
individual. It is considered a determinant because this alone decides whether or not people have
sufficient means to afford healthful foods and health services that are not covered by insurance.
When unstable income affects a family or an individual cheaper foods are bought in order
accommodate their budget. However these cheaper foods are typically highly processed and
contain little to no nutritional value. Thus, they are unable to meet the recommendations
outlined in the Canadian Food Guide due to circumstance. Education as a determinant of health
refers to how knowledgeable one is about health and nutritional practices that lead to a healthier
lifestyle. Typically, people who are more educated are more likely to make better food and
health related choices. This would include understanding how to read the Canadian Food Guide,
how interpret food labels, and how to appropriately avoid foods that are high in fat, sodium and
sugar by detecting deceitful claims on product packaging. An individual lacking in such abilities

Linguistic intelligence includes the capability to use, speak and learn languages and words. Logical
Mathematic intelligence is the skill of working proficiently with numbers. Musical intelligence is

When asked what season of the year, you would arrive at the conclusion that it is winter.
Availability Heuristics is when we base a conclusion or decision on the first thing that comes to

The Aviation Industry Impact The Environment
One of the first things to know about the way the aviation industry impacts the environment is it
is different from other sources of emissions. According to a FAA report, aircraft s btu/passenger
mile (energy intensity) is 2,654 in 2012. This is an 24.3% improvement from the 3,505 btu
/passenger miles in 2004. It is also improving faster compared to automobiles btu/passenger mile
of 8.8% improvement (FAA, 2015). In aviation, most of its pollutants are distributed at high
altitudes. However, this can still be hazardous to the environment because aircraft emissions
above 3,000 feet can cause up to five times more health impacts than emissions below 3,000
(Steven Barrett, Ian A. Waitz, 2009 2010). A widely studied area in the impacts aviation has is
researching air quality. There are two areas which have been getting a lot of attention and
becoming more important relating to air quality. The first area is known as fine particulate matter
(PM). PM is known as an air pollutant containing tiny particles floating in the air, sometimes
creating a foggy, hazy look in the air. Compared to NOx, another compound found in emissions,
PM is known to be a greater impact (Waitz, Townsend, Cutcher Gershenfeld, Greitzer, Kerrebrock,
2004). One challenge the aviation industry is trying to overcome is measuring the PM caused by
aircraft and PM caused by outside factors non aviation related. There are currently no uniformly
accepted methods for measuring both the PM and PM precursors from

Another image that the writer creates, of an opressed scoiety, is the metaphor
mind for ged manacles , this is as the manacles are only forged by the mind thus, it not being real
so therefore anyone can break free from it anytime, but yet they chose to stay in self imprisonment.
The line mind for ged manacles also conveys Blake s anger towards the ignorance of the people in
country as he believed that they could break free from their imaginary prison cells, and fight the
authorities that were causing their poverty, just like in the French

One way that Blake uses to convey his anger on what he sees is through his constant repition on

Rhetorical Analysis Of Richard IIi s Black Legend
There is a clear pattern throughout history of propaganda, myths and contemporary sources
clouding the true reality of events. Richard III is seen to be one of England s most disputed
kings; a monarch who brings with him a legend of negative connotations. There are seen to be
many arguments as to whether or not the mischievous king was subject to be condemned by his
black legend or fits the description issued by keen Richard III adversaries. These sceptics see
Richard depicted under the black legend which in turn imply that he was the murderer of his

Reflection On Swimming
Introduction
At the beginning of the semester, the health behaviour change I started pursuing is to swim
regularly. My goal of engage in this exercise is to acquire and grasp at least one swimming style
by the end of this semester, and the outcome I expect to obtain from it is the improvement of
physical fitness. Swimming is a strength consuming aerobic exercise that brings a variety benefits
to one s physiological and psychological states. Scholarly research has indicated that swimming
contributes to weight loss and acceleration of illness recovery (Yuan et al., 2016). Also, it can
improve emotional state, physical mobility and functional capacity, all of which can lead to a better
quality of life (Karapolat et al., 2009). Leg arm coordination and neural plasticity were both found
to be correlated with long term swimming behaviour. For aerobic exercises in general, it enhances
pulmonary functions and cognitive functions.

Review Of Google s Writing And Seo Blog
Review and SEO blog post Over the past several years, Google has made multiple changes to the
way we see search results. However, these changes are not always made so clear and could have
a major effect on companies or individuals looking to optimize your SEO efforts. When Google
decides to update its algorithms, these changes can vary in how major the updates are but each
one of them has the chance to crush your SEO optimization. In 2009, during their Searchology
conference, Google introduced one of their newest ideas which was rich snippets. Rich snippets are
additional details about regarding specific pages in the search results. Ever wonder why people
started seeing reviews for their products directly in the SERP? Well this is the exact reason why. A
review is simply a person s evaluation of something. For Google, this can apply to several things
including a business s specific domain or a certain product of theirs. Google displays two separate
forms of reviews when it comes to rich snippets. The two different types of reviews in Google s
search results pages are critics reviews and review snippets. Review snippets are generally an
average of all of the combined rating scores from reviewers. This allows you to gauge how your
product or business is viewed within a larger audience range. Not only will Google show you text
to go along with the review, but it will also be represented on a numerical scale such as 1 5 or 1 10.

The latter part of the 19th century (1870 1900) is generally viewed as a dark time in American
History. Called the Gilded Age this was a time in which increasing wealth was plagued by many
problems under the surface. The Gilded Age saw increasing industrialization, urbanization,

these problems on the government for being laissez faire; for not taking steps against industry in

For my sociology project, I decided to compare and contrast my husband and I cultures. In doing
so I discovered we shared many cultural norms and tradition although there was some noticeable
difference in terms of how our communities are run within our defined societies. My husband hails
from a small country on the coast of West Africa named Sierra Leone. That s a huge contrast from
the Hmong people who don t have a land to call home. Our people through centuries of prosecution
have scatted throughout Asia and America with the vast majority still residing in our ancestral land
of China. Despite this, however, Hmong people like the people of Sierra Leone continue to possess
a strong sense of identity and culture. Often Hmong communities in the United State take on a

tradition and culture but continue to be inundated by a western culturewhich could be having an
adverse effect. Ultimately our discussion highlights that both of our people ultimately want to move
forward as one to a better and prosper future.

and famously in his I Have a Dream speech, Dr. Martin Luther King championed the idea of a
country that saw no color, but based judgement on the content of character. Through decades of

employment. Collectively known as Affirmative Action, this social reform established racial
preferences in favor of minority groups at the expense of whites and Asians. This social reform was
unquestionably established in good faith, but into what has this festered now? The pursuit of
fairness is perhaps the most American in spirit, and a goal toward which we all strive together.
Unfortunately, the policies collectively known as Affirmative Action, however well intended, have
further widened the boundaries between us through some ideal of righteous discrimination. The
time has come, it seems, that our government and our nation rethink the policies

Avocado Leaf Plasticity Essay
DIFFERENCES IN SUN AND SHADE LEAVES OF AVOCADO TREES BY PHENOTYPIC
PLASTICITY
INTRODUCTION: Phenotypic plasticity, or differing phenotypes from one genotype in different
environmental conditions, is a way for sessile organisms to adapt to changing environmental
conditions (Valladares et al., 2007). Plasticity was expected to be abundant, however, it did not
occur as often in nature due to resource limitations and environmental stress (Valladares et al.,
2007). An experiment by Matos tested the phenotypic plasticity to light availability in shade and sun
leaves of coffee trees (Matos et al., 2009). Their research indicated that compared [to] sun leaves,
shade leaves had a lower stomatal density, a thinner palisade mesophyll, a ... Show more content on

This process was done twice on each tree in the understory for shade leaves, and in the canopy for
sun leaves. Each leaf was measured for its surface area, length to width ratio, mass, specific leaf
mass, and color. Surface area was measured by a leaf area meter in squared centimeters. Length
to width ratio was measured by measuring the length (vertically along the bridge of the leaf) and
the width (horizontally on the widest part of the leaf) with a ruler in centimeters, and dividing
the length by the width. Mass was calculated by a balance in grams. Specific leaf mass
(thickness) was measured by dividing the mass by its surface area in grams per squared
centimeter. Color was measured by having three reference leaves provided by the instructor,
indicating light (L), medium (M), and dark (D) leaves and compared our collected leaves. After
recording all of the data, these data were then input into a statistical program called StatCat to
determine normality through a normality test. The data for surface area, length to width ratio,
mass, and specific leaf mass for sun and shade leaves were both normal, therefore, we chose a
paired sample t test for all of them. A normality test was not needed for color for sun and shade
leaves due to it being a nominal scale data. The number of light, medium, and dark shade leaves
were tallied up according to color, and the same was done for the sun leaves. A contingency table
was made in

Essay On Foster Care
Foster care systems have lots of flaws and problems. These flaws impact the children severely.
Some problems in foster care is abuse. Types of abuse that are inflicted on the children are mental,
physical, and sexual. Children also often develop social and learning problems when in the foster
system.
There are many types of foster care but only three will be named. Private fostering is one of them.
It is when a child under the age of 16, or under 18 if disabled, is cared by someone who is not their
parent or a close relative. This is often a private arrangement made between a parent and a carer for
28 days or more. This is often the best type of foster care.
A second well known type of foster care is group homes. A group homeis a private place for
children or teens who can no longer live with their families. There are usually more than six people

Well anyone could foster children and/or teens. As long as they do not have a criminal record and
their interview goes well. But, anyone could fake being a good person so this is a big problem. A
way to prevent bad people fostering children and/or is having a social worker pop up unexpectedly
every once in awhile.
The age grouping. Here is how many children got abused in many different ways in one year. Such
as medical neglect, neglect, physical abuse, and sexual abuse. About 426,180 children at the ages
of 1 11 got neglected, 141,284 we re physically abused from the ages of 1 11, and 43,600 children
were sexually abused at the ages of 1 11. About 105,061 teens get neglected in the age group of 12
21, 34,024 were physically abused at the ages of 12 21, and 30,047 teens were sexually abused at
the ages of 12 21.
In one year 3.2 million children, who are part of the foster care, were checked on. 2.5 million of
these children were non victims which is great. But, 686,000 of this 3.2 million were abused or
neglected. As a result, 1,640 of that 686,000

The Use of ECMO Versus Conventional Ventilation In Patients With Acute Respiratory Distress
Syndrome
Travis Day
Northwest Technical College
Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation is a medical modality that provides life support for
patients experiencing pulmonary failure, cardiac failure, or both. ECMO is able to maintain
oxygenation and perfusion to the body until the native lungs or heart function can be restored.
According to Maj (1990) ECMO is a long term heart and lung bypass technique that has been
successfully used since 1975. ECMO can be divided into two categories; Veno venous ECMO (VV
ECMO) which supports the lungs by oxygenating the blood and returning the oxygenated blood to
heart. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to recognize that ECMO is not a therapeutic intervention. ECMO provides cardiac or
respiratory support so that the patient is spared the harmful effects of mechanical ventilation such as
high airway pressure, high oxygenation, and perfusion impairment while reversible
pathophysiologic processes are allowed to resolve either by natural means or by medical or surgical
intervention.
One prospective randomized trial compared the effectiveness of ECLS with conventional
mechanical ventilation (CMV) in full term newborns with severe respiratory insufficiency. This
was a randomized prospective study performed by O Rourke (1989) which demonstrated a
significant difference in survival between neonates managed with ECLS (97%) and those managed
by conventional means (60%). Other studies have demonstrated a significant increase in survival
among pediatric respiratory failure patients managed with ECMO when compared to matched
patients managed with CMV.
The neonatal ARDS disease processes result in lung pathophysiology associated with pulmonary
hypertension and poor oxygenation. Conventional mechanical ventilation, surfactant administration,
and nitric oxide administrations are the first modalities used in order to increase the tissue perfusion
and respiratory insufficiency. When these interventions fail, ECMO will allow for lower ventilator
settings, preventing lung injury caused by the ventilator.

During the Growth Stage, a company aims to develop brand recognition and increase their
customer base. The quality of the product is often improved and technical support is usually
enhanced. Pricing remains generally stable as demand continues with minimal competition. During
the Maturity Stage, the company has successfully established product and the aim for the
manufacturer is now to maintain the market share they have built up. This is probably the most
competitive time as KFC, now, has to take into consideration of Porter s five forces analysis. For
instance, other fast food oligopoly such as McDonald s, Subway, Burger King and so on might
come out with similar product of relatively cheaper price as substitute. Moreover, small
businesses are able to enter to the market because of reasonable production costs. A successful
strategy needs to be based on assets and competencies because it is generally easier for
competitors to duplicate what you do rather than who you are, said David A.Aaker Strategic
Market Management. The firm should invest to regain a dominant position so that it is a point of
advantage if other firms are catching up. A satisfied customer is one who will continue to buy
from you, seldom shop around, refer other customers and in general be a superstar advocate for
your business, said Gregory Ciotti Help Scout.

the topics. In the text he uses words such as Aussie Fords , when reading this it is evident that
this article is aimed at and audience that love Australian muscle cars. Morley has written his

target audience much more effectively then formal languages, as most readers intrigued by cars
don t want to be reading lengthy formal articles. The writing is written in paragraph form and
neatly organised is columns, making it easily readable for the audience. Morley writes in
informal conversation tone using words such as Aussie Fords , he uses colloquial language to

Why Should Catch 22 Be Banned
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, a book with a purpose to provide comic relief to the hearts of many
After the horrors of the Korean War. Catch 22 is a book set during World War II and shows an
American B 52 bombardier named Yossarian and displays his experiences at a U.S. Air Force
base in the small island of Pianosa west of Italy. Catch 22 is renowned by many who have
enjoyed the book s realism and use of satire, but some beg to differ and often criticize the book
over the excessive use of profanity. In some cases the book has been outright banned such as the
case in Strongsville, Ohio where the school district banned the book from school libraries due to
the use of profanity and racial slurs repeated often throughout the book. Many schools across...

Since the 1st amendment guarantees the right to freedom of the press among other things books
are protected under said right as decided by Lamont v. Postmaster General (1965), a book can not
be banned from schools because a school is an extension of the government, and if a school were to
ban a book because of language, violence, etc. the government would essentially be suppressing the
1st amendment. A quote from the American Library Association website from a court case which
involved Strongsville school board attempting to ban Catch 22 from the school district is as
follows, The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled against the School Board, upholding
the students First Amendment right to receive information and the librarian s right to disseminate
it. The removal of books from a school library is a much more serious burden upon the freedom of
classroom discussion than the action found unconstitutional in Tinker v. Des Moines School
District (Notable 1st Amendment Court Cases). The 1st amendment protects the rights of the book
to remain inside of schools because if Catch 22 was banned that school would be suppressing the 1st
amendment right therefore breaking the constitution. The 1st amendment protects a person s right
to freedom of speech, religion, etc., but also provides rights to that of

Funeral Decedent Essay
If I owned a funeral home and a family entrusted me with the care and preparation of their loved
one, I would add the decedent s vital and service information via the funeral home s website for
guest. If the decedent was part of a veteran organization and a brief ceremony would be scheduled
during visitation or service hours, the information would be published in a newspaper obituary or
added to an online obituary for those wanting to attend.
If the decedent was part of a fraternal organization and the family wished to have a non sectarian
funeral service, which are similar to military funerals, the funeral director must be advised during
arrangements. The family must provide the DD 214 form, so the funeral home is aware of the
branch the decedent belonged to and could provide a U.S. flag to be draped over the casket
during services. It becomes the funeral professional s responsibility to coordinate the participation
of the various fraternal organizations in a funeral service (NACMS, p. 149). It is important for the
funeral director to work with all the people involved during a veteran s organization funeral rite,
including the clergy, post commander, and family, to make sure everything goes according to plan.
During a fraternal funeral ceremony, the organization is able to provide full military honors, which

Essay On 1960s Religion
The 1960s was a rapid, evolutionary new burst in religious change. People during this era ignored
their parents and grandparents values, and made their own. This caused a dramatic decrease in
churchgoing numbers, and christian values in the south. These changes can be connected with the
direction the world was going. Politics, mobility, and great leadership had a huge impact on the
religionof the 1960s. After this period, Christians still, even today, try to return the values of
traditionalism (Matthews).
The politics of the time brought great change, president John F. Kennedy, was the first Catholic
president of the United states. The mobility of the times brought new ideas to the American south,
and denounced protestant thought. The immigration of 1965 opened the U.S. up to massive
immigration. Many immigrants from all over Asia came to America during this time bringing their
ancient religions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have never been a believer of fundamental values and interpreting the bible literally. However,
religion is so deeply stained into the fabric of the south, I can not imagine a south without the
strong influence of religion it has. It is amusing to me, that we can not agree on one united
church. We are so different in our faiths, everywhere you look here has a church with its own
unique faiths. I do not know why, but I feel like religion gave the southern people a sense of
righteousness during the 1960s. I feel like the southern people knew their God would have wanted
them separate from blacks, and try to block out the rest of worlds changes from changing the South.
We try to instill these religious values in our culture I think to try and keep morals and values alive.
Except, humans do not need religion to know the difference between right or wrong. Without the
reevaluation of southern identity during the 1960s, the reevaluation may have not turned out the
way it

Sick Leave Research Paper
Introduction Sick leave whether it is paid or unpaid is time off from work that employees can
use to stay home to attend to their health needs or the health needs of immediate family members.
Labor law in the United States currently doesn t require employers to provide paid sick days in
the short term nor does it require employers to offer longer term paid sick leave for more serious
illnesses. Furthermore, the current law doesn t protect workers from termination should they miss
work due to sickness (Heymann, J., Rho, H., Schmitt, J., Earl, A, 2009). In collective bargaining,
however, unions can negotiate additional protections regarding sick leave, which may include short

Essay about Pro-Choice Doesn t Mean Pro-Abortion
Under the 14th Amendment s personal liberty , women are given the right to obtain an abortion.
Almost 50% of all pregnancies in this country are unintended, including over 30% within marriage.
And over half of all unplanned pregnancies end in abortion. Improved access to contraception
would address the source causes of unintended pregnancyand would diminish the need for abortion,
but not abolish the choice. A widespread misconception with the pro life, pro choice dispute is that

Adoption is not an alternative to abortion, because it remains the woman s choice whether or not
to give her child up for adoption. Statistics show that very few women who give birth choose to
give up their babies. Less than 3% of white unmarried women and less than 2% of black unmarried
women give up their babies for adoption. Many people think that having an abortion is unsafe, that
is entirely untrue if you have the right medical attention an abortion is a very save procedure. Today
abortion under modern hospital conditions is safer than childbirth. The majority of women who
have an abortion do so in their first trimester (88%). Medical abortions have less than 0.5% risk
of serious complications and do not affect a woman s health or future ability to become pregnant
later on in life. Even if abortion were made illegal, there would still be many abortions.
Approximately 8% of women go to some kind of non medical abortionist which is very unsafe.
That percentage would rise highly if abortions were made illegal, as would the number of deaths
from abortions. On June 18, 1989 CNN World Report, stated that in Brazil there are 6 million
illegal abortions each year and 400,000 women died. This is an actual example of what would
happen if abortion was made illegal. 77% of pro life leaders are men, 100% of them will never be
pregnant. The pro life argues that abortion killing a human life, but that is an only an opinion. No

Marilyn Monroe Informative Speech
The year is 1962. The audience of Madison Square Garden is packed full of the rich and famous.
Among them sits the guest of honor in all his glory, President John F. Kennedy. All eyes are tuned
into the stage, among it stands a blond bombshell crooning into a microphone. The words Happy
Birthday Mr. President slip through her lips in a light breathy voice. To her family she is Norma
Jeane but to the world, she is Marilyn Monroe(Thomson, 2016).
She was a sex symbol, a pinnacle for women, and an all around icon. Marilyn s persona appealed
to the masses as effortless. But contrary to those beliefs, her efforts were thought through and
calculated. During her childhood little Norma Jeane was shy and plagued by low self esteem
(Victor, 1999). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marilyn didn t spend time with speech pathologists but instead with drama and vocal coaches
(Victor, 1999). These coaches helped her harness and control her stutter and instead take her
struggle and turn it into something positive. In the beginning of her career, Marilyn s voice was
described as a tight squeak (Victor, 1999). Through the guides of her vocal coaches the voice we
all know and recognize as Marilyn Monroe, was created. To a large extent, the Marilyn voice of
the first half of her career, with its exaggerated clarity and staccato stressing of d and t , was the
result of tutoring from Lytess (Victor, 1999). Lytess encouraged her to lower her tone and from
that rose Marilyn s infamous breathy seductive timbre. It is believed that this change in how she
speaks, almost as if in character, is what cured Marilyn s stutter (Victor, 1999). The idea of
modifying ones tone, proves to be a successful method of therapy in the world of speech pathology
Many of the current therapies for teens and adults who stutter focus on helping them learn ways to
minimize stuttering when they speak, such as by speaking more slowly, regulating their breathing,
or gradually progressing from single syllable responses to longer words and more complex
sentences. Most of these therapies also help address the anxiety a person who stutters may feel

Disadvantages Of Engineering Materials
Introduction Engineering materials is classified into families based on their material structure,
compositions, properties etc, as shown in the figure: Metals Ferrous metals: These are the
metals and the alloys that are composed of high amounts of the iron content. These are the
strongest materials that are available and can be used in the applications where strength of the
material is compulsorily high and at a low cost and also where the weight is not a primary
importance. Ferrous metals are used in various applications such as: building of bridges,
structures of huge buildings, rolling stock, the bodies and highly stressed engine parts of vehicles
running on the road, railway lines and locomotives. The ferrous metals alone can also be divided
into Groups , and these are as follows. Non ferrous metals: These materials refer to the remaining
metals known in the world. As they lack of mechanical strength these clean metals can hardly be
used as structural materials. They are used where their superior properties such as electrical
conductivity, thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance are essential. Aluminum and Copper
are used as electrical conductors and, composed with sheet zinc and sheet lead, are used as roofing
materials. They are primarily used with other metals to improve the material strength. Some
extensively used non ferrous metals and alloys that are available are shown in figure. Non metallic
materials Non metallic or synthetic

  • 4. The Odyssey, Medea, And Oedipus The King While our class has been covering different aspects of Greek civilization, I was assigned to read the literature from that time period. Some examples of the literature I read was The Iliad, The Odyssey, Medea, and Oedipus The King. These readings show direct relations to the concepts and ideas that occurred in Greek civilization during this time in history. Some of the recurring themes throughout these stories are religion, philosophy, and hospitality. Polytheism, fate, and hospitality towards others are some of the important concepts that were held by the Greeks. The religious views of the Greek civilization is evident throughout the literature of that time period. The Greeks were known to have been a Polytheistic people, who believed in multiple gods/goddesses. They believed these gods constantly interfered with their lives, both in good and bad ways, which is shown in the literature. Not only do the characters pray or converse with these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One important value the Greeks held was hospitality. In The Odyssey, Odysseus travels through many different places. As he encounters new people, they often welcome him in immediately. In fact, hospitality was so common that whenever Odysseus encounters the island inhabited by cyclops, he assumes he is welcome and begins to eat their food and drink. The concept of hospitality in the literary works connects not only to their civilization in general, but specifically connects with their religious beliefs. I believe it is possible that the Greeks gave hospitality to others on behalf of their gods/goddesses rather than just out of kindness. One example of this would be in the Iliad, where Achilles welcomes in other men such as Odysseus to his hut and prepares them food. He does this before asking about their intentions. This seems a little weird by today s standards, as this happened before Achilles had joined their side in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Songs Of Rebellion Matthew Caruso Beverly Mitchell Arts Culture II April 6, 2017 Songs of Rebellion Smashing anything from pumpkins to instruments, Rock Roll is a form of art with flare. Generations of people from the 50 s to modern day have enjoyed a little bit of rebellion in their life. But while the rebels continue to rage against the machine of society, that society is constantly changing. Different issues become highlighted and more relevant as others fall to the wayside, but Rock music does not stand by jovially. By the end of the decade, however Rock was taken over by big business, and what used to be a provocative sound turned into songs about teen appropriate issues such as school, parents, young love, etc. By the end of the 50 s and beginning of the 60 s rock had somewhat died down and become tamer. many thought it was dead until the mid 60 s. Rock Roll had a resurgence, known as The British Invasion . While things had settled down in the US, England had been inspired. Groups from Britain like the Rolling Stones and the Beatles brought a fresh style, infusing British Rhythm and Blues and Jazz into what they played. This revival propelled the genre down two different paths. Many groups came onto the scene and continued to make more of the same teen appropriate pop style music. others pushed boundaries in an industry heavily influenced by drugs, spawning the phrase, Sex, Drugs, and Rock Roll . The Beatles were at the center of it all, experimenting with different sounds and instruments. Their experimentations became part of a larger movement, known as psychedelic rock, which included the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd was one of the first bands to use laser lights in their concerts. What s more psychedelic than that? Hendrix even took it a step further, creating what many call Acid Rock. Additionally, the Beatles were not just trendsetters with their music, but also with fashion, sporting hair that was abnormally long for men at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Organizational Functions And Employee Relations During The... Since the turn of the 19th century, there has been a dramatic overhaul of administrative practices. Through trial and error, organizations have altered their management practices in pursuit of better results. These changes in administrative theory can be sorted into five different themes. This includes organization functions, employee relations, open systems, social equity, and client oriented (Cronkhite, 2012). Each theme provides a unique perspective on how to run a successful agency. The purpose of this paper will be focusing on the themes of organization functions and employee relations during the industrial era. Before discussing the administrative theories, it is important to understand the historical context behind these theories. The industrial era is the time period from the 1880s to the 1950s, which represents the aftermath of the industrial revolution (Cronkhite, 2012). The industrial revolution is often revered for its significant advancements in technology and manufacturing. Should Legal System Be Used To Resolve Purposeful Misconduct The legal system should be used to resolve purposeful misconduct; instead frivolous lawsuits have affected every aspect of our society because individuals with legitimate grievances have been trivialized to a get rich quick mentality that is permeating American society. To turn the other cheek, is a biblical instruction to urge people to be motivated by love and to have a desire for the redemption and forgiveness of offenders in lieu of personal revenge and/or vengeance. • 18. Enzyme Catalase Experiment Introduction: Within a cell, enzymes are used as a catalyst to increase the rate of chemical reaction. They do not consume themselves, rather they help in increasing the rate of reaction. Within the body, enzymes vary depending on their specific functions. For instance, hydrogen peroxide is a toxic chemical, but it breaks down into harmless oxygen and water. This reaction can be sped up using the enzyme catalyst produced by yeast. Hydrogen peroxide is produced as a byproduct in cellular reaction, because it is poisonous and must be broken down, therefore this reaction is important. The speeding up of the reaction is shown below: 2H2O (aq) catalyses 2H2O (l) + O2 (g) This experiment is designed to analyze how the enzyme catalase activity is affected by the pH levels. The experiment has also been designed to outline all of the directions and the ways by which the observation can be made clearly and accurately. Yeast, will be used as the enzyme and hydrogen peroxide will be used as a substrate. This experiment will be used to determine the effects of the concentration of the hydrogen peroxide versus the rate of reaction of the enzyme catalase. Hypothesis: The presence of catalyst will cause hydrogen peroxide to break down into water and oxygen. The increase in the pH of the substrate will cause the increase in the rate of reaction. It will optimize at pH 7 and will diminish/moderate after pH 9. The important questions that will help clarify the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Bolsheviks gained power and were bound to be challenged for it. A major country that opposed the Bolsheviks were the Social Revolutionaries. When the Revolutionaries were held back by Bolshevik guards, they fired back at them by attacking their Bolshevik government. The countries that opposed the Bolsheviks were the Revolutionaries as mentioned before, the Mensheviks ( who once controlled the Provisional Government), and the Tsarists (who wanted to put Nicholas the second at the throne after rescuing him). However, if people were to embrace change, then this would enhance the lives of all people involved. At one point the the book, you meet a man named Nathaniel Nyok. He wanted to use Armistead field to play soccer with his friends. City Hall initially allowed the Lost Boys to use the field. They then change their mind without explanation. Nathaniel called Cooper, who was pleasant and happy to schedule the Lost Boys for use of Armistead Field. So late one afternoon, Nyok and his friends went to the park to scrimmage. It wasn t long before the first squad car showed up from the Clarkston Police Department... Nyok called Coach Cooper, who confirmed that the Lost Boys had permission to play. Again they took the field to practice, and again the police came. When Nyok asked for an explanation, he said, the police refused to respond. (89). St. John initially shows that the city through Coach Cooper wanted to appear to accommodate the refugees by saying that Cooper was pleasant and happy to schedule . This was then contradicted by the actions of the police forcibly removing the Lost Boys. This shows that while the city wanted to put forth the appearance of acceptance, there ultimate fear of the unknown and change led them to prevent the Lost Boys from using the field. This idea, if enacted, has the potential to harm the economy of many nations, because the working hours would be cut in factories that employ thousands of employees, but it also can allow for scientists and engineers to come up with a plan that could prevent/lower the amount of risk we have environmentally from being impacted by global warming and its effects. It has the potential to harm the economy of other nations, because shortening the amount of hours that their factories are allowed to run can raise production time and cost this would lead to the increase in price of items, because it would take more money and time to produce these goods rather than if they were able to work for a longer amount of time and produce more goods in this time period. According to a FAA report, aircraft s btu/passenger mile (energy intensity) is 2,654 in 2012. This is an 24.3% improvement from the 3,505 btu /passenger miles in 2004. It is also improving faster compared to automobiles btu/passenger mile of 8.8% improvement (FAA, 2015). In aviation, most of its pollutants are distributed at high altitudes. However, this can still be hazardous to the environment because aircraft emissions above 3,000 feet can cause up to five times more health impacts than emissions below 3,000 (Steven Barrett, Ian A. There are two areas which have been getting a lot of attention and becoming more important relating to air quality. The first area is known as fine particulate matter (PM). PM is known as an air pollutant containing tiny particles floating in the air, sometimes creating a foggy, hazy look in the air. Compared to NOx, another compound found in emissions, PM is known to be a greater impact (Waitz, Townsend, Cutcher Gershenfeld, Greitzer, Kerrebrock, 2004). • 39. Review Of Google s Writing And Seo Blog Review and SEO blog post Over the past several years, Google has made multiple changes to the way we see search results. However, these changes are not always made so clear and could have a major effect on companies or individuals looking to optimize your SEO efforts. When Google decides to update its algorithms, these changes can vary in how major the updates are but each one of them has the chance to crush your SEO optimization. In 2009, during their Searchology conference, Google introduced one of their newest ideas which was rich snippets. Rich snippets are additional details about regarding specific pages in the search results. Ever wonder why people started seeing reviews for their products directly in the SERP? Well this is the exact reason why. A review is simply a person s evaluation of something. For Google, this can apply to several things including a business s specific domain or a certain product of theirs. Google displays two separate forms of reviews when it comes to rich snippets. The two different types of reviews in Google s search results pages are critics reviews and review snippets. Review snippets are generally an average of all of the combined rating scores from reviewers. This allows you to gauge how your product or business is viewed within a larger audience range. Not only will Google show you text to go along with the review, but it will also be represented on a numerical scale such as 1 5 or 1 10. Review snippets are available for local ... Called the Gilded Age this was a time in which increasing wealth was plagued by many problems under the surface. The Gilded Age saw increasing industrialization, urbanization, immigration, and the problems associated with them. Many people during this time period blamed these problems on the government for being laissez faire; for not taking steps against industry in order to benefit the interests of the people. Although the people were correct in the fact that the government was not taking steps in order to benefit them, the claim that the government during the Gilded Age was laissez faire is completely false. While The Theory of Moral Sentiments deals mainly with the moral argument for laissez faire, The Wealth of Nations justifies the usage of laissez faire at the national level through economic arguments. In Book 4 of The Wealth of Nations (Of systems of political Economy), Smith argued that government restrictions hindered industrial expansion and thus, harmed the economy in the long run (in earlier books, Smith had equated the growth of industry to the wealth of a nation and its individuals through historical analysis). Specifically, he stated that protectionist tariffs served against the interests of a nation by causing increasing prices of foreign and domestic goods, that export duties harm the economy by diminishing the goods that a company can ship overseas, that trade treaties harm the economy by giving a foreign nation a trade monopoly over an industry (since the other country will only be trading with them for that particular good), and that by restricting the ... In doing so I discovered we shared many cultural norms and tradition although there was some noticeable difference in terms of how our communities are run within our defined societies. My husband hails from a small country on the coast of West Africa named Sierra Leone. That s a huge contrast from the Hmong people who don t have a land to call home. Our people through centuries of prosecution have scatted throughout Asia and America with the vast majority still residing in our ancestral land of China. Despite this, however, Hmong people like the people of Sierra Leone continue to possess a strong sense of identity and culture. Often Hmong communities in the United State take on a specific identity, not unlike American Indians reservation or other sub cultural community in The United State. Conversely, although the people of Sierra Leone have a nation filled with rich tradition and culture but continue to be inundated by a western culturewhich could be having an adverse effect. Ultimately our discussion highlights that both of our people ultimately want to move forward as one to a better and prosper future. My husband and I discussed the structure of family in our culture. Broken and burning and minus 620,000 men, a new challenge lay before the nation: social equality. How would we address the sickening grievances endured by these African American now citizens? That question has hallmarked fiery debates from dinner tables all the way to the Supreme Court for more than a century. During the Civil Rights Movement, millions of American citizens demonstrated across the country in pursuit of fairness, and famously in his I Have a Dream speech, Dr. Martin Luther King championed the idea of a country that saw no color, but based judgement on the content of character. Through decades of policy, our government implemented social reform within institutions of education and employment. Collectively known as Affirmative Action, this social reform established racial preferences in favor of minority groups at the expense of whites and Asians. This social reform was unquestionably established in good faith, but into what has this festered now? The pursuit of fairness is perhaps the most American in spirit, and a goal toward which we all strive together. Unfortunately, the policies collectively known as Affirmative Action, however well intended, have further widened the boundaries between us through some ideal of righteous discrimination. Plasticity was expected to be abundant, however, it did not occur as often in nature due to resource limitations and environmental stress (Valladares et al., 2007). This process was done twice on each tree in the understory for shade leaves, and in the canopy for sun leaves. Each leaf was measured for its surface area, length to width ratio, mass, specific leaf mass, and color. Surface area was measured by a leaf area meter in squared centimeters. Length to width ratio was measured by measuring the length (vertically along the bridge of the leaf) and the width (horizontally on the widest part of the leaf) with a ruler in centimeters, and dividing the length by the width. Mass was calculated by a balance in grams. Specific leaf mass (thickness) was measured by dividing the mass by its surface area in grams per squared centimeter. Color was measured by having three reference leaves provided by the instructor, indicating light (L), medium (M), and dark (D) leaves and compared our collected leaves. After recording all of the data, these data were then input into a statistical program called StatCat to determine normality through a normality test. The data for surface area, length to width ratio, mass, and specific leaf mass for sun and shade leaves were both normal, therefore, we chose a paired sample t test for all of them. A normality test was not needed for color for sun and shade leaves due to it being a nominal scale data. ECMO provides cardiac or respiratory support so that the patient is spared the harmful effects of mechanical ventilation such as high airway pressure, high oxygenation, and perfusion impairment while reversible pathophysiologic processes are allowed to resolve either by natural means or by medical or surgical intervention. One prospective randomized trial compared the effectiveness of ECLS with conventional mechanical ventilation (CMV) in full term newborns with severe respiratory insufficiency. This was a randomized prospective study performed by O Rourke (1989) which demonstrated a significant difference in survival between neonates managed with ECLS (97%) and those managed by conventional means (60%). Other studies have demonstrated a significant increase in survival among pediatric respiratory failure patients managed with ECMO when compared to matched patients managed with CMV. The neonatal ARDS disease processes result in lung pathophysiology associated with pulmonary hypertension and poor oxygenation.
