- 55% of respondents were male, indicating the magazine should not be aimed solely at females but include content appealing to both sexes. 75% were aged 16-24, suggesting content should appeal to youth.
- 82% of respondents were students or worked in retail/food service, indicating the magazine should be reasonably priced. Knowing respondents' hobbies could help with content and marketing.
- Rock and indie were the most popular music genres. The magazine should feature these genres and advertise using popular music platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and phones.
- Over half attended concerts monthly or yearly, and over half attended festivals once or twice a year, so the magazine could include festival/concert lineups and ticket

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

What is your favourite colour?
Knowing the average percentage of what sex your target
audience is can tell you who is most likely going to read your
magazine and who you should aim it at the most. 55% of the
respondents were male. This tells me that I shouldn’t aim most
of my magazine at females. For example; the magazine shouldn’t
contain feminine content but content that can be applied to both
sexes, as my target audience is nearly half female and male.
This applies to the age group as well. 75% of the people I asked
were 16-24 years of age. This shows that it would be ideal to
have content that the youth would be into and not content that
over 40’s would enjoy.
Finally, knowing what colour is most liked by people can tell me
what colours I can include in my magazine that will appeal and
attract the niche market to buy the magazine and read it.

What do you like to do in your

Finding out whether people you asked work or are in
education can reflect how much you should charge your
magazine depending on who your magazine is aimed at. For
example; My magazine is ideally aimed at 16 – 24 year olds.
The graphs below show that a majority, 82%, are in
education and either unemployed or working in a shop.
Therefore, this tells me that in order for them to want to buy
my magazine I need to charge a reasonable, affordable price.
Knowing what they do in their spare time can tell me what
content to use in the magazine, content that they can relate
to or have similarities with. It can also help me to come up
with a puff/buzz word that will entice them to buy the
magazine.

By finding out why people don’t read
magazines can help to prevent me from
constructing the reason why they do not
buy them. For example; 90% of the people
who do not buy magazines said it was
because they were not getting value for
money. Therefore, on my front cover and
contents page I am going to make sure that
there are plenty of articles and stories to
read in the magazine and at the right price
in order to appeal to as many people.
The reason I asked what form of magazine
people read is because having a magazine
that is online and anyone can read at
anytime and anywhere will be a unique
selling point of the magazine. Attracting
people who don’t have time in the
morning to go and buy a magazine because
they have school or work, they can read it
on their portable device wherever they
are.

For the genre of my magazine, asking if the
people asked have ever brought
merchandise will tell me that advertising a
free poster or a discount on a band t-shirt
will convince and persuade people to buy
the magazine.
And again, finding out how much someone
is willing to pay for a magazine will help to
find the ideal price to charge.

Due to the genre of magazine I am doing, it is
important that I find out what sub-genre the
respondents prefer. The graph below shows that
that the most preferred genre of music is rock and
indie. This tells me that I should incorporate both
of these genre’s into the magazine.
Finally, knowing how the target audience listens to
music can help me to come up with inventive ways
to share music and advertise music in ways that
everyone uses, such as apps on phones.
