Referring to the results I received from my music magazine
questionnaire my results tell me that I answered more females
than males. There was a total of 2 more females than males
therefore I can tell that my results will be fairly equal as I wont
have any biased results caused by gender.

My questionnaire has mainly targeted 11-20 year olds. My results
also tell me that they are the age group who are largely targeted by
the music and magazine industry. Therefore my target audience will
be mainly target 11-20 year olds as they consume magazines a lot.
The next age group who largely consume magazines are 21-30 year
olds, although a lot more magazine genres target them, the younger
generation are more likely to make purchases of magazines as
conventions like celebrity endorsement’s used to attract their
attention as they are more vulnerable.
2. Q Magazine had the most votes with a total of 9 votes.
This could be caused by the easily identifiable masthead or
the well recognised layout and use of colours. Q Magazine
have a very distinct logo/masthead which uses the bright
colour red which stands out on the front cover; This could
be a reason why they had so many votes or that voters are
more familiar with this magazine compared to the rest of
the magazine options. They also use different celebrity
endorsement which represent different genres therefore
they have a large target audience.
The Source in second place as a lot of our voters prefer
Hip/Hop and R&B over the other listed genres (below). The
source provides news coverage of urban music, African
American issues, youth culture and politics; Therefore they
easily target youth as they are most vulnerable to listen to
this genre.Kerrang!, 1

Relating back to the age group of which my
questionnaire was highly consumed by which
was (11-20) I can tell that a large number of
them listen to R&B/Pop and Hip-Hop/Rap. This
age group largely consumes these genres of
music as they reach out to them more. For
example Songs released by Justin Bieber target
young women and therefore are listened to
them more. In conclusion my magazine will
target 11-20 year olds and will be focused
around the genres of R&B/Pop and Hip-
Hop/Rap as they are extremely popular and
important as well as highly consumed in this
decade of time.

The improvement in technology has allowed a decrease in the
numbers of the public who purchase and read magazines –
Almost everything that’s available to read in magazines is
available on the internet or elsewhere like social networking
which is an growing industry. This could be linked to why a
large number of my questionnaire consumers (15) only spend
upto £5 per month!
Not forgetting the very best and most luxury magazines are
quite pricey which could turn down and push away potential
customers.
Therefore I will keep in mind that if I want to have a
successful magazine and target a large audience I need to
have a reasonable pricing strategy.

Does the front cover of magazines
persuade you to purchase the
product?
The use of conventions help an audience to easily identify
what type of magazine it is (genre) and what company it is.
For example a bright and easily recognisable masthead
means that the audience will become more familiar with the
magazine as well as the other conventions such as layout and
colour schemes used on the magazine. Therefore I will make
sure that my magazine cover is distinctive and easily
recognisable as I will make sure it stands out with the use of
bright and vibrant colours in order to attract the audiences
attention.

The magazine brand or the price
Celebrity Endorsement is highly used on magazine covers in order to attract
more than one target audience. This relates to Richard Dyers star theory as
the pop tsars have a lasting significance and have brand awareness. By using
a distinctive figure or musician it allows the magazine company to not only
target the general target audience but also the celebrity's fans; this is done to
benefit the magazine company financially. The audience also then relate to
Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs as the audience feel ‘security’ and safe when
purchasing the magazine as they feel that the magazine will be good – the
greater the authority and popularity of the model used.
The stories and subjects of the cover lines are also very important as they
help to attract the public and they are more likely to purchase the magazine
if they have an interest for the cover lines and main issue.

Too much info None/not enough freebies Gets boring after a while
According to my results my participants state that
magazines ‘Getting boring after a while’ is a big issue.
This could be linked to the reason why there is low
numbers of people consuming magazines in this decade
as well as the improvement of technology. Therefore I
need to make sure that on the front cover I have
fascinating sub stories included and ‘cool’ cover lines.
They also highly think that there isn't enough or any
freebies/insentives therefore my magazine will include a
few gift samples relating to the products advertised and
because of the audience I am targeting it should defiantly
have at least two leaflets of upcoming related events
which can help get young people involved in music…

What social media platform do you
use the most?

Social media is highly consumed especially to the 11-20 age group. Advertisements on the
listed social media networks listed above is a very smart move for the magazine company's
and I should defiantly keep up my audiences social awareness of media platforms; This could
be done by the use of converges on the front cover.
In conclusion, for my magazine I will be targeting the age group of 11-20. Although I had
more female voters I will be targeting both genders as the voter gender results only had a
difference of 2 votes and were therefore extremely close. Also, targeting a wider target
audience is better as it is more likely to be consumed better as more members of the public
are likely to buy and can therefore benefit from financial issues.
I will be focusing on the music genres of Pop/R&B and Hip-Hop/Rap because of the large
successful amount of voters choosing these genres. I can therefore tell that these genres are
highly consumed.
my magazine will include a few gift samples relating to the products advertised and because
of the audience I am targeting it should defiantly have at least two leaflets of upcoming
related events which can help get young people involved in music and these leaflets will
relate to my chosen genres.
