The document summarizes the results of a questionnaire about creating a magazine for a school audience aged 16-18. Key findings include:
- Respondents were equally aged 16 and 17.
- Most would buy a magazine priced under £1 that contained school information as well as other content like sales and celebrity gossip.
- Features should include school events and exam dates.
- The magazine's theme and colors should reflect the school brand.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. Target audience
The target audience of my magazine is
young people aged between the ages and
those who attend a college or a sixth
form. I will make my magazine related to
their interests so that they will keep up to
date with the latest things that are going
on in their college life.
3. Questionnaire
Questionnaire
Please circle the most appropriate answer
What age are you?
16 17 18
What gender are you?
Male Female
Do you buy magazines?
Yes No
If yes, how often do you buy magazines in a month?
Once Twice 3 times or more
Would you buy a magazine solely about school?
Yes No
What would you expect to see in a school magazine? (please state your answer)
How much would you pay at max for a school magazine?
Under £1 £1-2 £2+
Do you think the theme of the magazine should reflect the school?
Yes No
What courses do you study? (please state your answer)
In the magazine would you like to see information about sales and other information from high street shops?
Yes No
Would you benefit from a school magazine?
Yes No
Would you like to see two different sections, so one for Yr12 and one for Yr13?
Yes No
4. Analysis from questionnaires
Looking at the results I got from my
questionnaire I found in the question
‘What age are you?’ I found that I asked
an equal number of people aged either 16
or 17.
5. Analysis from questionnaires
Also with gender I found with the
question ‘What gender are you?’ I found
that the people I asked where aged 16 or
17. The following table shows this.
6. Analysis from questionnaires
In the next question, which was ‘Do you buy
magazines?’ I found that 4 people brought
magazines where as 6 people didn’t buy a
magazine, this shows to me that young people
do not buy magazines so I will have to make my
magazine good enough so that I can
encourage people into
buying magazines.
7. Analysis from questionnaires
Of the 4 that brought magazines I fouind that
one person brought a magazine every week.
Another said that they only brought a magazine
once or twice a month. Third states that they
brought a magazine twice a month. Finally, the
last said that they brought a magazine about
twice a month. This shows to me that young
people do buy magazines often. If I had a bigger
sample size then I would have been able to have
got a clearer picture of how many buy
magazines and how frequently they do so.
8. Analysis from questionnaires
The next question I asked on my questionnaire was
‘Would you buy a magazine solely about School?’ I
found that 4 people would not buy a magazine if it was
just about school. I think that they would want to see
other information inside such as celebrity gossip and
other information which is commonly seen in magazine.
With six out of ten people supporting a magazine solely
about school I think that I would be a good idea that I
take into account other people views and add
other information in so that
they are catered for.
9. Analysis from questionnaires
The next question I asked on my questionnaire
was ‘What would you expect to see in a school
magazine?’ I found that they would all expect to
see information about the school, this would
include dates about events and possible what
exams are coming up. This tells me what
information what I should put in because this is
magazine because if I put the wrong content in
then no one would buy the magazine.
10. Analysis from questionnaires
The next question I asked was ‘How much would
you pay at max for a school magazine.
As you can see 3 people would pay 50p or less,
but the highest number is at 50p to a pound this
tell me that I should price my magazine around
this because this is what my target audience
are prepared to pay for the magazine.
if I over charge
then no one will
buy my magazine.
11. Analysis from questionnaires
The last question I asked on my on my
questionnaire was ‘Do you think the theme of
the magazine should reflect the school?’, what I
meant by this was should the colour them be
similar to the school. For archies this would be
red, blue and white and my results prove that a
resounding number of people said that they
would like to see this in the magazine. All 10
people supported the idea of doing this.
