In my production I represented rebellious teenagers and alternative adults through the costumes used by models in the magazine. For the teenagers, most of the clothing was black or dark colors, appealing to fans of rock music. The female model wore a corset, chains, and heavy boots for a rocker look. For adults, secondary images in the magazine showed how they express individuality through things like blue spikey hair. - 3. What Conventions do they follow? As presented on the slide before there are some conventions in Rock magazine that were followed through time, and these are: The use of black colours – there is some use of black in all three magazines. Black is meant to be a symbolism for energy and mystery but it also is seen as a doll colour. Body language – all three magazines have a model with a direct gaze which is to create a relationship with reader and give them a sense of false needs. The fact that this convention had been followed through out the time suggest that this technique has worked. Colour scheme – apart from black there is a repetition of red and white used to create a nice constants in the image but it also could be to represent the genre of the magazine. The font – all three magazines have a hard corners at some point in their font the connotation of this is to present the hard core theme and give a sense of adrenaline to the readers.
