2. This will be on my front cover because
the lipstick and clothes that both Alice
and Courtney are wearing is quite dark,
which fits into the stereotype associated
with rock, but also fits in with one of my
colours in my colour scheme of red.
Also, the direct address and the fact
that Courtney is pointing to the
audience creates an intimate
relationship between the target
audience and my magazine, and the
fact that they are both female attracts
my mainly female target audience by
making the models more relatable and
therefore appealing to them, and
conveying that this magazine is
targeted at females specifically. The
hand gestures they are doing creates
the energy needed for rock, as this
genre is generally presented as being
loud and energetic.
3. The sinister expressions on this
band’s faces creates the
intimidating feeling that is
stereotypically present in rock
magazines, along with their
black outfits and Molly’s black
lipstick, therefore presenting my
magazine to be of the
expressively heavy rock music
genre. Again, the females attract
and engage my target audiences
attention and the direct address
further draws the audience’s
attention in to my magazine.
4. This will be on my contents page due to
the fact that the indirect address to the
target audience connotes the story of
Mason looking away and thinking of his
solo career for the article. The metallic
panelling in the background creates an
urban vibe, where rock is stereotypically
based around, therefore by using this on
my contents page, I am reinforcing the
codes and conventions of a rock
magazine. Also, I needed to include a
picture of a young male in order to keep
the target audience’s attention, as they
will find images of males appealing to
look at, being mainly young females
aged 16-19.
5. I am going to use this image for
my contents page due to the fact
that both the setting she is in
and Sophia’s outfit represent the
rock genre of dark and
intimidating. The brick wall in
the background follows the
conventions of lower class
settings for the rock genre, as
opposed to professional makeup
studios possible seen in a pop
genre magazine for example,
and also focuses all attention on
her, rather than having a lot
going on in the background.
6. This image represents the loudness of
rock, and denotes props such as a
guitar and a microphone, which have
connotations of rock music, therefore,
it is clear to the target audience that
this is the genre of my music
magazine. This is a suitable main
double page spread image as the arm
of the guitar could lead onto the
opposite page, where it could allow
the image and text in the article to be
integrated, which adds interest and
makes the page more dynamic and
aesthetically appealing. The blue
background will be manipulated to
denote a performance studio or a
stage, which conveys to the target
audience a familiar setting, and so
this background will convey the mood
and atmosphere of rock music in a
conventional sense.
