During this project I research different magazines front covers, in order to understand different features used.

1. The name Kerrang means the
sound of a power chord on an
electric guitar which is
associated with ROCK magazine
The tattoo is connotes: violence.
Some religions see tattoo as a
symbol from devil which
stereotypically describes rock
music.
Celebrate endorsement denotes the genre
of the magazine (Rock) as Bring me the
horizon is a well know teen Rock band
which encourages audience to buy it.
Their dress code is elegant yet bit
messy this can be told by their
ties which are denoted of smart
and gentlemen's however the
colour of their ties which is red
(symbolises danger, warning and
romance) and black (symbolises
mysterious and death) could
present two meanings.

The direct gaze of all the models
shows their confidence.
However, it gives a sense of
mysterious due to the fact that
all the models facial expression
are neutral.
Free gifts are part of false
needs, people sometimes get
the magazines just to get the
free gifts.
The barcode shows that the
magazine is in a good condition
The fact that the front cover
mansions bands such as
‘metalica’ which is a well know
90’s it establishes genre of the
magazine also the fact that
‘metalica’ is from 90’s suggest a
vide range of year groups.
The colours are dark and the mise en
scene gives a mainstream feeling due to
the colours, background and the
secondary images.
‘K’ the use of slag makes
the magazine informal and
gets direct to the point.

2. Dress code: is really unconventional which is
associated with Lady Gaga and her rare clothing (it’s
what people recognise her for). The spikes represent
her unusual and challenging personality which
makes her unique.
Q magazine was originally called Cue
(as in the sense of cueing a record,
ready to play), but the name was
changed so that it wouldn't be
mistaken for a snooker magazine.
Another reason, cited in Q's 200th
edition, is that a single-letter title
would be more prominent on
newsstands.
Lady Gaga is sexually objectified in
this image due to her topless body
however, the glove makes her look
less provoking and it gives an
impression of her being dominate
and under control of herself. Her
glove is also associated with a movie
‘Edward Scissorhands’ which makes
the image seem a little gothic and
secretive.
Lady Gages' hair looks like Marilyn
Monroe which makes her look
elegant and classical.
The mise en scene creates a
impression of gothic yet classical and
elegant modern magazine due to the
way Gaga presents her body language
and her hair style.
Lady Gaga is well know electropop
and dance-pop star world wide and
therefore her name is covered.
Lady Gaga present Laura Mulvey
theory of male gaze.
The colours create nice contrast
between each other it makes the
magazine look really professional
which makes it seem a good
brand.
Symbolises of colours use:
• White = purity and softness
• Red = danger , passion and
warning
• Black = mysterious
• Silver = rich and powerful

3. ‘Elle’ stand for she in French
which represents the genre of
the magazine and the target
audience. France is associated
with a city of fashion and style
therefore, the magazine
convection is well presented. Elle
magazine is well know globally
and that’s why this is ‘Australian’
edition.
The dress code makes the image
look really soft due to the bluish
colour, yet what she’s wearing
makes her look really elegant yet
casual at the same time.
Direct gaze makes Emma look confident however, her face is slightly shuddered to
the side which shows her status.
Her lips are spread apart which
makes her seem slightly passion
about what she is doing.
Her hair looks really natural which
suggest that she is beautiful no
matter what her hair looks like
which presents a feminist
arguments that woman are
beautiful no matter how they look
like.
Celebrity endorsement gives a
sense of false needs as it
manipulates female of wanting
to look like ‘Emma Watson’
which is well know actress and
model.
Drop Capital of ‘Emma Watson’
is eye catchy
‘OMG SHOES & BAGS’ represents
the them of the magazine.
Her body language shows her self-
confident and matureness which
represents a different image of
‘Emma Watson’ as many people
associate her with a young girl
from a ‘Harry Potter movie’. Her
hand is slightly touching her chin
which could show her high status
OR it could show her innocents
meaning she haven’t much
changed from that “little girl”.

4. GQ magazine stands for
Gentlemen's Quarterly which
represents the genre of the
magazine. It is a fashion magazine
for male.
His direct gaze creates the
relationship with the audience.
However, in my opinion the
magazine doesn't appeal only for
men but women too that want their
men to look like Leonardo DiCaprio.
GQ magazine is well know magazine globally which is why this is a
Australian edition this suggest the good quality of this magazine.
His facial hair represents modern
males which goes against
stereotypical views. Facial hair
makes him look more attractive.
The green a symbolism of growth
which is something men are
interested in however, green is also
a symbolism of harmony which is
not something that men are
associated with (send a positive
message?).
The GQ magazine represents
modern males and goes against
stereotypical views and this is
because woman stereotypically are
interested in fashion.
The dress code is really elegant
The language suggest that the
magazine is for men due to the
topics that they speak about which
is health. Men like to be associated
with healthy and very muscular.
