In what ways does your media
school magazine use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of
real media product?
My school magazine develops the conventions of a real
media product and this is because through the example
front cover magazine where the model uses direct gaze
to create a relationship with the readers. Similarly, my
magazine also uses direct gaze of all three models
which is successful as this creates a sense of false
needs which makes the audience want to buy the
product.
Due to my product being a school magazine it had to be
much more formal than the example magazine this is
shown through: colours, clothing as well as the font. As
shown on the example magazine the use of font is
much more edgy and fancy this idea has been hinder in
magazine development due to the theme however, due
to the age group that the magazine is aimed at I
decided to use a variety of colours to make it more
appealing and for it to stand out from the rest of the
school magazines. My aim was to crate a sense of false
need so that the students would be more than happy to
read the school magazine as much as they would be
happy to read the example magazine.
Moreover, my magazine challenges the conventions of
the real magazine a little as most of the magazines front
covers have one professional model but my school
magazine has three, which is successful as my school
magazine presents: three different characters with three
different images and achievements meaning that every
person can find something for themselves.
Also, the masthead of the example magazine is bold,
simple and its eye catchy due to the colour which is
useful as it will stay in the readers head. Whereas, my
magazine is challenging this idea as the colours are
darker but due to the bold font it stand out from the rest
of the background. Moreover, the use of colours are
formal which is associated with my tame of school
magazine.
Example Front Cover:
As shown here there is only one
main model. Which is
opposite to my front cover
magazine therefore my
magazine challenges the
conventions.
How does your product represent
particular students?
My school magazine is aimed at the six
formers, my product represent this
through use of uniform which is formal
yet its different from each other which
represents that the magazine could not
be for middle school due to the different
uniform.
Also, the use of headlines presents that
my school magazine is aimed at six
formers and this is because it talks
about things such as: “university time”
which is aimed at six formers as they
have to pick a “university” .
Furthermore, the models break the
stereotypical views of how the woman
should look like this because all of them
are wearing black which is opposite to
how woman are usually presented and
also the body language shows powerful
and dominate female.
Stereotypical woman front cover
magazine:
This is a example of stereotypical
woman as the man is disempowering
the woman meaning that he has
control over her this can be stated
from his hand gesture . Also, in this
font cover the woman is sexually
objectified due to the fact that the
male model is touching her breast.
What kind of media institution
(publisher) might distribute
your media product and why?
Bauer is a German company that is well
know globally this suggest that their
successful due to the brand of the
magazines that they publish such as:
Kerrang, Q, Mojo and others.
This institution would be not interested in
media publish and convergence of my
school magazine and this is because the
school magazine is only aimed at the
people that go to that school as it gives
them the important events and
information that has to do with a specific
school.
Also, as the school magazine doesn't
need to be published globally, the print
will take place by school it self as the
school can’t afford for bigger company or
sometimes they would have a small
publish company's.
Who would be the audience
for your media product?
My magazine is for both females and
males that are part of six form. My
specific audience are going to be age
of 16-19 this is because my articles will
be based on that age group.
This is because my magazine looks
sophisticated the uniform of the six
forms students looks almost like a
business like suggesting that is for
higher age groups.
Also, my magazine could be for
parents that are interested in their
children academic education and that
want to find more information about
the event that school organised
specifically for their children.
This magazine makes my product
unique as usually the school magazine
is for both middle school and six forms
students whereas, mine targets six
form only.
How did you attract/address
your audience?
As presented on the image I
address my audience through the
use of language which is formal
this is because six forms are seen
as mature young adults and
therefore, I tried to show this in my
magazine.
The use of colours makes the
magazine more stylish and trendy
which is what I wanted. Although
the magazine is for six formals and
it talks about formal aspect of
school I wanted it to make the
magazine more appeling through
relaxed mood.
Lastly, the models are addressing
young people about age of
sixteen/seventeen which is
associated with my target specific
age group.
What have you learned about
technology from the process
of constructing product?
From this process I have learned that the use of Pick monkey Photoshop
is limited meaning that the skills of using Pick monkey are not as
developed as normal Photoshop and therefore, next time I am going to
develop my knowledge and understanding through use of Adobe
Photoshop. As this should allow me to manipulate my image more to
make it more appealing to my specific audience based on the genre
conventions that I am going put.
Furthermore, I have learned how to use Prezi in order to make my work
more creative and contractive. This allowed me to make my presentation
more developed and detailed and the final effect is great therefore, I will
use more of Prezi.
