Location
 Where a specific place on earth can be found.
Map
 A drawing of a place
 Has information about features of the area.
 Maps are usually flat
Globe
 A model of the
earth
Sphere
 A solid figure that has a shape of a ball.
Hemisphere Half of a sphere
North Pole
 The geographic point on Earth which is the
farthest north.
South Pole
 The geographic point on Earth which is
furthest south.
EQUATOR An imaginary line that
divides the earth into
the northern and the
southern hemispheres
Prime meridian
 An imaginary line that circles the Earth from
pole to pole, It divides the Earth into Eastern
and Western Hemispheres.
Lines of Longitude
 Imaginary lines on a
map or globe that
run from north to
south.They can tell
you how far east or
west a place is
located from the
prime meridian.
Lines of Latitude
 Imaginary lines on a map or globe that
run from east to west. Lines of latitude
can tell you how far north or south a
place is located from the equator.
Compass
A tool that shows the
direction of magnetic
North.
Compass Rose
 The part of the map that
shows directions
Directions
North, South, East ,
West
Distance
The amount of space
between two points
Elevation
The
height a
landform
is above
sea level
Grid
 a series of horizontal and perpendicular lines
used to find coordinates of a point
Scale
 A place on a map usually located on the key
that compares the size of the model to the
actual size of the area being represented.
Symbol
Something on a map that
stands for something else.
