As the world is taking a plunge in eLearning, dont be left behind. Know everything there is to LXP.

The Learning and Development Industry is on the rise. That level of interest and investment in the Learning and Development Industry is a predicted change. As companies begin to look at learning software to manage and track training, they may discover that the learning management system (LMS) market has evolved into two distinct segments: traditional LMSs and learning experience platforms (LXPs).
Neither of these options is necessarily the best or obvious choice for a given organization. Understanding which features makes each platform distinct will help you make informed and accurate comparisons between a learning management system and a learning experience platform.
Let’s break down the key differences between LMS and LXP and why they matter;
The Basics: Defining the Key Terms:
Learning Management System (LMS) is a common industry term. It’s what most people think of when they think of a training platform. In the traditional approach, an LMS is a software where you create, deliver, and track your training content.
Learning Experience Platform (LXP or LEP) is a newer term by comparison. It’s a platform where content is both curated and aggregated for a personalized learner experience.

This slideshare provides you the basic understanding of e-learning– its business impact, the steps involved in creating, delivering and deploying an eLearning program.
LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
A learning management system (LMS) is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of educational courses or training programs. They help the instructor deliver material to the students and other assignments, track student progress, and manage record-keeping. LMSs are focused on online learning delivery but support a range of uses, acting as a platform for fully online courses, as well as several hybrid forms, such as blended learning and flipped classrooms. LMSs can be complemented by learning technologies such as a training management system to manage instructor-led training or a Learning Record Store to store and track learning data.

IEEE TAG xAPI Webinar Series: Improving the Learner Experience Through an xAP...Margaret Roth
As part of the xAPI Case Studies Webinar Series hosted by the IEEE LTSC TAG xAPI, this presentation gives an overview of the creation of the Learning Commons. The Learning Commons is a shared space for connecting and accelerating educator learning created in partnership by the Learning Accelerator and Yet Analytics with support from innovative education organizations. The Learning Commons is an xAPI-enabled, multi-source content portal designed from the ground up with xAPI as part of the data model, powering a unified learner experience interface that allows learners to see how the informal learning content they work with aligns to competencies and skills they are working to build. As learners utilize content through curated playlists, skill and competency development is automatically tracked and presented back to learners, cohort leaders, and content providers through xAPI data.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. What is a Learning
Management System?
An LMS is a software
application where you can
host, deliver, and track all
your digital learning
content.
What is a Learning
Experience Platform?
An LXP is a learning
platform where learning is
both curated and aggregated
for a personalized learning
experience.
The Basics: Defining Key Terms
Page 2
3. The LMS administrator has complete control
over the LMS content.
• Uploads content and makes it available
to learners
• Provides daily support and maintains
ongoing operations
• Controls flow of content and holds back
anything not essential
Who Controls the LMS Content?
Page 3
4. Who Controls the LXP Content?
Everyone helps curate and add content in
the LXP which serves as a content aggregator
for anything that is found valuable by your
audience.
• Contains internal, external, and user-
generated content
• Offers diverse content that fosters social
engagement and learner interactions
• Recommends resources based on previous
learning choices and skill development
requirements
Page 4
5. Who Controls the LMS Learning Journey?
Just like content, the LMS learning journey
is created and controlled by the LMS Admin.
• Follow a map of what they’re expected
to take and when
• Know their next steps and when they
need to achieve them
The LMS is about ticking those
mandatory boxes.
LMS learners:
Page 5
6. Who Controls the LXP Learning Journey?
The LXP does not follow predetermined steps and
focuses more on the learning process itself.
• Navigate freely through available
content, choosing what they want
• Have greater freedom to pursue areas
of personal interests and professional
development
The LXPs is more about the user and
experience.
LXP learners:
Page 6
7. When Should You Opt for an LMS?
• Objectives are compliance-driven
• You want more control over
learner journeys
Consider an LMS when:
• You want to regulate the sources
of the learning content
• To administer ILT, eLearning,
VILT, blended learning
Page 7
8. When Should You Opt for an LXP?
• Can use Artificial Intelligence to
recommend content based on skills
and previous usage
• Want to drive absolute self-directed
learning and learner autonomy
Consider an LXP when you:
• Have to push people to create and
share content
• Want to create learning pathways of
multiple content formats – videos,
blogs, podcasts, etc.
