The Function Of Gun Control
The function of guns in society is a very controversial topic that has long been debated. There are
those who believe that guns have no purpose in the hands of private citizens and civilians. Whereas,
others believe that guns are the very foundation that protects American s rights and liberties stated in
the Constitution. Under the second amendment that was ratified in the Supreme Court s ruling in
1791, Americans have the right to bear arms at the level of an individual, not just the well regulated
militia. For the vast majority of Americans, the central issue associated with gun control is the upshot
of crime, which rolls over onto public health. Americans are twenty times more likely to be killed by a
gun than any other developed nation on Earth. It is a sobering fact that today, there have been more
American deaths by guns than American deaths caused by wars dating by to the American Revolution.
Gun control advocates believe that having stricter gun control laws will make guns less accessible and
more difficult to gain possession of by people who should not have them such as criminals or the
mentally ill. They reason that this will cause a decrease in the number of deaths. Gun ownership
proponents argue that the creation of such laws would interfere with American citizens rights to bear
arms (for self protection against crimes and unjust government.) Following these laws would also
create other issues such as law abiding citizens being prey to criminals due to their

Keystone Pipeline
In February 9, 2005, the TransCanada proposed a pipeline system that would be able to transport
crude oil from Canada into the United States. The pipeline was given the name the Keystone Pipeline
System. Originally, the pipeline was to run from Alberta, Canada to refineries in Illinois. However, in
2008 another proposition was raised in order to extend the pipeline even further to down to Texas. The
proposition is known as the Keystone XL. The possible construction of the pipeline is a controversial
topic. Entrepreneurs believe that such a pipeline will stimulate the nation s economy and lead to an
increase in the amount of jobs. On the other side, environmentalists believe that the pipeline will be
detrimental for the environment as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, Canada itself is a foreign nation. In the attempt to close our doors to foreign dependency on
oil, we are actually becoming even more dependent on solely one foreign nation. The amount of oil
we will receive from Canada is a substantial amount since it will replace overseas imports on foreign
oil. Instead of being more reliant on our own oil, we are only shifting focus to rely on another nation
that is not in economic or political turmoil. Secondly, the Keystone Pipeline itself is an export
pipeline. Canada will be using the pipeline in order to transport crude oil to refineries in the Gulf
Coast. Once the crude oil reaches the Gulf Coast, refineries will refine the crude oil into diesel and
export it to Europe and Latin America. We will not be dependent on these countries anymore for their
oil, but we will be involved in the importing and exporting of oil. In fact, this will actually pull the
U.S. into a greater involvement with these nations. According to Oil Change International, the only
way that we can actually reduce our dependency on foreign oil is to reduce our dependency on all oil
as a whole. Throughout history, our energy sources have been constantly changing, from steam, to
coal, and now to oil. We are in need of a new energy source and one that is actually reliable. Once we
attain it, we will no longer be dependent on oil.

Comparing The Italian And Italian Renaissance

Northern Renaissance and Italian Renaissance
Differences between the Italian and Northern Renaissance
The Renaissance was a period of great cultural and technological changes which swept Europe from
the end of the 13 century. It was integral in developing Europe into a powerhouse. Although, each part
of Europe was subjected to different changes, there were two primary renaissances which were most
notable. They were the Italian and the Northern renaissance. Both of these renaissances had a
profound impact on Europe. But they also had some typical differences among them and each was
unique in its own way.
Italian Renaissance
The opening phase of renaissance was started by the Italian renaissance. It was a period of great
Cultural changes and achievement throughout Europe. It spanned from the end of the 13 century up to
about the 1600 s. It marked the transition of Europe from the medieval period to the Early Modern
Europe. The term renaissance is in essence a modern one that came into currency in the nineteenth
century, in the work of historians such as Jacob Burckhardt.
Although the origins of a movement that was confined largely to the literate culture of intellectual
endeavor and patronage can be traced to the earlier part of the 14th century, many aspects of Italian
culture and society remained largely medieval; the Renaissance did not come into full swing until the
end of the century. The word renaissance (Rinascimento in

Questions On Mortgage Backed Securities And Credit Default...
Mortgage backed securities and credit default swaps are words we often hear in reference to the Great
Recession of 2008. In this paper, I will be discussing and analyzing an analogy Tim Harford uses to
discuss the probability of buying a carton of eggs with an egg having a double yolk to what mortgage
backed securities and credit default swaps meant and represented. In chapter 6 of the updated book,
The Undercover Economist, a lady named Fiona Exon is mentioned. In early 2010 she bought half a
dozen eggs and discovered all 6 of them had double yolks. According to the British Egg Information
Service the chance of any given egg having two yolks is one in a thousand and for each one of the 6
eggs you keep multiplying this probability and get a probability of one in a quintillion (thousand
raised to the power of 18). This was reported to the media and surprisingly more people called in to
report discoveries of half a dozen double yolk eggs. This event that was known to be very rare was not
really that rare. The calculation, in reality, was wrong as they had made a wrong assumption that eggs
with double yolks only come in clusters, increasing the chance of seeing 6 double yolk eggs by a
million billion fold with this simple assumption. So knowing that there was a really high probability of
ending up with half a dozens of double yolk eggs, Fiona Exon s friendly local egg retailer came up
with a clever marketing wheeze and offered a million pound jackpot to any customer who

Oxidative Stress Lab Report
Biochemistry of Free Radicals and Oxidative Stress
The research was done by Sabry M. El Bahr at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Veterinary
Medicine, P.O. Box 22758, Alexandria University, Egypt. The overall purpose of this experiment was
to study the causes of oxidative stress that is caused by free radical. It is known that the free radicals
and the Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) are used interchangeably. ROS can damage DNA,
biomembrane lipids, proteins and other macromolecules. The primary source of ROS is the leakage of
electron from the respiratory chain during the reduction of molecular oxygen to water generating
superoxide anion. The classification of ROS includes oxygen centered radicals and oxygen centered
non radicals. Moreover, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The system can take care of those reactive oxygen species, some of them are enzymes, including
glutathione peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase which are the most major antioxidant
enzymes that are capable to minimize oxidative stress in the organelles, and some are non enzyme
antioxidants such as glutathione, selenium, vitamin C and E. Oxidative stress is when the balance is in
favor of oxidase, so when the antioxidants systems in the cell cannot keep up, something gets out of
whack and things start to come oxidized. This can happen in a lot of ways, we have endogenous
sources of ROS; things that are happening in the cell like aerobic cellular respiration where the ROS
are being produced as a result of some byproduct or some cellular process that supposed to be
occurring like electron transport in cellular respiration or breaking down fatty acid and peroxisome.
In this study, scientist found that there are levels of free radicals reactivity of the compounds that are
being produced in the cell; some with least reactivity such as H2O2, and some are highly reactive such
as OH. The free radicals can affect the cell negatively. One of the element that generates free radicals
and causes oxidative stress is cadmium. It increases lipid peroxidation and/or changes intracellular
glutathione levels. However, investigators found that some plants such as curcumin is a natural drug
that works

Hamlet And The Basic Human Need For Truth
Hamlet and the Basic Human Need for Truth Marcus Aurelius is quoted as saying, Everything we hear
is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth. This idea is examined in
William Shakespeare s Hamlet, a play full of warmly delivered lies and completely intentional deceit.
Hamlet himself shows how a life full of lies and deceit breeds a desire for something real. In the
beginning of the play, authenticity is introduced as a rare trait and the Ghost reveals treachery to
Hamlet setting him on a path that leads to his demise. Hamlet s actions are motivated by a search for
something real and true in both his life and himself and in this search he comments on the nature of
truth itself.
Within Shakespeare s Hamlet resides a strong theme of illusion and reality shown in the attention that
is drawn to the seeming and being within the characters. The play itself is about acting because not
only are actors required to act out the parts that are written, but also the characters themselves are
acting. They put on a facade just as an actor assumes a role on the stage (Bloom 11). Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern seem to be concerned friends. Instead, they are simply acting as such because they are
charged by the king to find the origin of Hamlet s peculiar behavior. Gertrude seems to be the dutiful
queen that married Claudius for the benefit of the kingdom itself while she has simply failed to grieve
her husband, dishonored his memory by marring so soon after

The Monster s Transformation
Given that, maturity and familiarization become catalyst to the Monster s transformation. The parent
less environment forces the Monster to let his curiosity serves as a starting point. Distort from their
starting point, the Monster begins to form an opinion about himself. I viewed myself in the transparent
pool! At first I started back, unable to believe that was indeed who I was reflected in the mirror: and
when I became fully convinced that I was in the reality the monster that I am, I was filled with
bitterest sensation of despondence and mortification (16. 116 17). The pool serves as conduit to help
The Monster notice the aesthetic differences between himself and the cottagers. However, it sets the
pace for the Monster to begin to unfairly desire that which is unattainable. Exhibitive in the
comparison, is the rapid rate at which the Monster is acquiring knowledge. Amidst knowledge, and its
acquisition, it is paramount that misconceptions and comparisons to others, be put in perspective, but
this is impossible. On his own, he formulates an opinion and does not have another individual to
challenge his belief system. The philosophical opposition would present an alternative viewpoint from
which to see himself. The silence that surrounds him plants the seed which creates the potential to
manifest into something more devious, and destructive, as per his superhuman abilities. Successive to
learning the disparity between himself and the humans, the Monster continues to

Latin American Countries
Over the past decades Latin American countries have been in transition and relatively high growth
rates were observed. Constant economic reforms led to a reduction in poverty in some regions with
some exceptions. Latin American countries face many challenges but also they are niches of
opportunity. Across regions a high sense of inequality and low penetration of technology are among
the most recognizable challenges. In this regard, FDI works as the main engine for Latin American
countries and has been increasing steadily over the recent years. Latin America may therefore include
FDI as a key component of their modernization strategy, because of the potential benefits FDI is likely
to generate to their economies. In particular, Latin American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Much research on FDI and IPR has been done during recent years and although many economists
have recognized the role of IPR in acknowledging the issues of technology diffusion and the
generation of new technology, studies have also criticized the role of the owners of IPRs over the
market. On the other hand, the main focus on FDI is directly linked to technology transfer, from L.A
countries perspective FDI has been seen as the main provider of technologies and skills, that are
crucial and necessary for L.A countries to attain sustainable economic development. Several
economists have investigated ways of transferring technology, however, all of them agree that the
most significant and efficient way to transfer technology is through FDI. Ideas and knowledge are
public goods, non rival and non excludable. In this sense everyone has the right to imitate it or acquire
it. Because the generation of technology is involved with costs, not protecting the interests of
innovators can result in a lack of investment in such areas and can result in a market failure. A well
structured IPR regime generates a temporary monopoly to innovators and enables them to achieve
rents in order to have a return on their investments. ( Dhar and Joseph, 2012), Hence, countries that
lack an IPR regime may suffer from low FDIs, due to the fact that foreign

behavioral profiling that focused on identifying a potential criminal, instead its main focused is the

Persecution In The Passage Of Persecution
Hebrews 10:33,34 states Sometimes you were exposed to public ridicule and were beaten, and
sometimes you helped others who were suffering the same things. You suffered along with those who
were thrown into jail, and when all you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with joy. You
knew there were better things waiting for you that will last forever (NLT). Whomever the author could
be for it is unknown to those reminds the Hebrew Christians that they have once faced persecution
before. Being persecuted for living a life of Christ instead of self, may bring pain and sorrow upon
Christians. For Christ, endured pain and sorrow on the way toward to the cross or his earthly death.
The author goes on to say that those that have been persecuted greater things were to come their way.
All they had to do was remain faithful to God and God would be faithful to them. Those who are
studying this passage of scripture must know that they too will be tested or persecuted in their faith
walk, must know that God is on their side. The persecutions will bring about trust, strength, and
patience. The issues that come with persecution in this passage of scripture is that Christians does not
have to do anything wrong or sin against God, just claiming to be a child of God only brings about
persecution. Two ways to overcome this persecution is to know that God is always with his children,
and Christ will return to his children one day and carry them away with him into Heaven.

Remembering Rumblefish
Rob Sheffield is former radio D. J., as well as an editor and columnist for the Rolling Stones
magazine. He stumbled upon a mix tape titled Rumblefish with no songs written on it. At first he
referred to it as just another piece of useless junk that Renee left behind (Sheffield 643). Renee was
his wife whom passed away after they were married for only five years. So as he listens through the
tape, he finds himself re living and relieving the memory of his life with his much loved wife; and
each song is related with bittersweet memories. And so he drowns and looses himself into the mix
tape.

as fast as they could to meet the demand of the music mainstream. Since then, Rob continues to write
about music, TV and pop culture. Love is a MIX Tape: Life and Loss, One Song at a Time, is the

Is Liberalism Still Relevant Today
In its simplest design, liberalism is a political ideology that believes in the protection and
enhancement of individual liberty. In the international system, liberalists argue that humans by nature
are inherently good and cooperative, humanity can be rationale and non state actors are considered
highly important factors. Liberalism suggests that there a fundamental human rights that may in turn
help promote cooperation and cohesion between states. By establishing these rights , liberal
democracy has provided citizens to a life of quality, autonomy and dignity. With organizations such as
the United Nations, the establishment of Collective Security has forged allied defence between states.

Within this manifesto of peace , Kant outlined three principals that have today, become one of the
foundations in liberal ideas. Along with Kant, another leading liberal who emerged from the European
Enlightenment was Jeremy Bentham, who argued that between the activities of nations there is
nowhere any real conflict. Furthermore, during the nineteenth century, John Stuart Mill, argued that
government was a necessary evil . In his Book, On Liberty (1849), Mill defines liberty being capital in
ensuring successive advance, both of society and the individual. Lastly, the works of Michael Doyle is
his theory on democratic peace. The basic hypothesis of this theory is that, as states become more
democratic, they become more peacefully inclined (J. Pettiford 2010: 32). Recognizable to Kant s
position on peace and the foundation of equitable international system, is Francis Fukuyama s The
End of History and the Last man. In the book, Fukuyama argues, that at the end of the twentieth
century, the combination of liberal democracy and capitalism has proved to be superior to any
alternative political/economic system, and the reason lies in its ability to satisfy the basic drives of
human nature (M. Griffiths 1999: 83). Prior to the creation of the League of Nations, President

As a Christian school, we must come up with a list of statements that describe who we are and what
we believe. As Christians, there are certain doctrines that we believe in like the doctrine of the Bible

my pastor about. The first one I choose stated that: We believe in the present indwelling ministry of
the Holy Spirit, whose intercessory and sanctifying work continually renews the Christian and enables
him to live a godly life in conformity with the Scripture. (John 14:15 17) The Holy Spirit is an

SOdom and Gamosahr was a very very sinful place but it was destroyed because God could not find

What regulations are in place to determine a pilot is mentally unstable with a possibility of committing

When mathematically modeling real life situations we often come across equations in the form of

The Performance Factor As My Dependent Variable
The Performance factor as my dependent variable in this research proposal can be for each of the
boxers utilizing the orthodox/southpaw position, observing the quantity of triumphs against an
orthodox/southpaw adversary.
Age: the average age for an active professional boxer ranges from 22 40 years
Opponent s stance: this could either be southpaw or orthodox yet this data directs the choice of
evaluating performance in a boxing match (win/lose/draw).
Ratings or Rankings: base on the rule that a boxer has been dormant for over a year, won t be
incorporated into the rankings, unless he has a match formally booked. Every boxer is positioned on
the outcomes they have accomplished in their own particular weight division. A boxer can t be
positioned in a particular weight division until he has contended in that division..
Diverse/Different weight classes: Separating boxers into divisions guarantees reasonable BOUTS. For
instance, a contender who measures more than 200 pounds has more drive behind his punch, while a
boxer who weighs 140 pounds will probably be quicker and more light footed than the heavier boxer.
While weight classes were initially isolated into eight divisions, the confining classes today are
separated to 17 divisions, permitting contenders to be all the more unequivocally coordinated with
their weight partners.
Number of fights involved: Mileage in boxing is not controlled by matches, but rather by harm
sustained. So 5 dangerous battles may be a boxer s whole

confirmed that there is a pilot shortage. A major limitation is my small sample of sources. They re
hundreds of articles of the topic but I only picked a select few in the interest of time. Another
limitation is that some of my sources are from blogs which are susceptible to being

Holding True to Convictions in a World of Differences Essays
INTRODUCTION We live in a world full of people who hold different beliefs and convictions. Many
of them may even be different from our own. For example John Haught, in his book God and the New
Atheism shares his belief that, Science alone can tell us what religion is really all about, and it can
provide better answers than theology to every important question people ask (x). Berger and
Zijderveld, on the other hand, argue in In Praise of Doubt that, Whether God does or does not exist in
cosmic reality is another question. And this question cannot be answered by the empirical sciences:
God cannot be the object of an experiment (1).
Even among religious scholars, ideologies differ. In the following pages I will employ both Haught

This circumvention is comparable to creationists rejecting evolution without ever having taken a
course in biology (29). Haught believes that the new atheist s theological literacy is closely related to
that of religious fundamentalists.
The new atheists scarcely notice the irony in their intolerance of religious tolerance he says, On the
one hand they bring up past inquisitions as evidence of the evils of religion, but on the other they now
excoriate theological moderates who espouse the new spirit of tolerance. Moreover, they seem not to
notice that the very same liberal tolerance in modern Western history that influenced the Catholic
Church to change its stand on religious freedom provides the cultural space and freedom of expression
by which the new atheists themselves are permitted to vent their own literalist ideas (Haught 37, 38).
Here, Haught points out the intolerance of the new atheists and one can easily see that he does not
approve.
In the book In Praise of Doubt, Berger and Zijderveld argue that it is possible for individuals to hold
moral certainty about societal values without succumbing to the extremes of either 1) the new atheists
fundamentalism (complete lack of certainty) or 2) relativism (absolute certainty). One of their main
points throughout the majority of this book is the idea that modernity leads to plurality. They explain,

Case Study Of Tata Steel And Corus Group
Tata Steel acquired Corus Group in April 2007 for £6.2bn. Tata Steel is India s largest private sector
steel company with 2005/06 revenues of US$5.0 billion and crude steel production of 5.3 million tons
across India and South East Asia. Corus Group is Europe s second largest steel producer with annual
revenues of over £9.2 billion and a crude steel production of 18.2 million tons in 2005. This is an
interesting acquisition as the acquired company was almost four times the size of the acquirer in terms
of revenue. The combined entity became the fifth largest steel company in the world. The acquisition
allowed Tata Steel entry into the European market. This deal follows the merger of Arcelor Mittal
forming world s largest steel company. It is the biggest deal ever from an emerging market. The deal is
a powerful combination of low cost upstream production in India with the high end downstream
processing facilities of Corus. The deal occurred through 9 rounds of competitive bidding between

In 2014 15, the share was down to 57.3 percent. While Tata Steel group witnessed a 6 percent growth
in turnover over the period, Tata Steel Europe saw a 20 percent decline in turnover. Clearly, Tata Steel
Europe has been a drag on the group. As far as operating profit is concerned, Tata Steel group saw a
decline of 30 percent between 2007 08 and 2014 15. Tata Steel Europe, meanwhile witnessed a
sharper 53 percent decline. In 2007 08, a year before the global financial crisis started, the foreign
subsidiary had a 50 percent contribution to overall Ebitda. The business never went back to that level
of operating profit after that. The share in 2014 15 stood at 33.6 percent. In 2015 16 up to December,
the group s consolidated EBITDA stood at Rs 11,165 crore. Tata Steel Europe, meanwhile, reported an
operating loss of Rs 339

Anarchism And Communism
Living in complete freedom is the philosophy that guides anarchism. The rediscovering of anarchist
philosophy inundated the minds of British youth in the 1970s who felt that the British government was
suppressing thier freedom with frivolous laws. There are several schools of anarchism such as
anarchist communism, collectivist anarchism, social anarchism, individualist anarchism, and
mutualism. Nevertheless, it is the idea of living in total freedom that is the foundation that connects
each school. Emma Goldman the author of Anarchism and Other Essays defines ANARCHISM:

that all forms of government rest on violence, and are therefore wrong ... Show more content on

While the other bands such as the X Ray Spex, and Sex Pistols were produced by big music labels like
EMI, Crass produced their own records with their own record label; Crass Records. The sound of their
music also reflected their style of music; harsh, with feedback, and fast pitched. Crass, not only
revolutionized the do it yourself mentality, they also founded a whole new sub genre of punk; Anarcho
Punk. Steve Ignorant, the lead singer of Crass, sings Knowing you ve made you re contribution/To the
systems fucked solution,/To their political pollution./No chance of revolution./No chance of
change./You ve got no range./Don t just take it./Don t take their shit./Don t play their game./Don t take
their blame./Use your own head./Your turn instead (Ignorant). These lyrics come from the song You
Pay, and from the album The Feeding of the 5000. The lyrics are significant in influencing the
anarchist rebellion against the British government because they are saying to be aware of the situation,
and if change is to happen that an revolution needs to happen. Steve Ignorant is also saying that the
reason why the government is taking advantage of society is because the British culture is passive by

Thesis:
Main Point; The US is already in a state of poverty and with the people that have trouble with taxes
and now that we added this it is going to be almost impossible for some people to live in this economy
with this tax problem. Secondary points; taxes are just to expensive that s why we need to get rid of
foreign aid.
This paper is about how the government is taking our tax money and giving it to people in lower
income countries. Us government should not be taxing us for someone else s needs because 1. People
are already having trouble with taxes, and now that we added this it is going to be almost impossible
for some people to live in this economy. 2. People that care about this should be funding this, not the

We, The United States of America should have it to where people are not required to help people in
lower income countries, neighborhoods, etc. People should start a charity, and then people that care
about it can pay for it and then the people of the United States of America will not be held back by the
ropes of taxes and be free to have cheaper taxes. Then the democrats and the green party will see what
the government should really be like and not very resistant to where people will be going into poverty.
Then people will understand that the government is very confusing right now, and people will be
happy with lowering taxes and then the government will be one closer step to having everything
simple and figured out
The government is taking people money in taxes which is doing both making taxes very high while
doing that it makes people that are already having trouble with taxes. Now that we added this it is
going to be almost impossible for some people to live in this economy and the government also gives
the money from people to other people that are in a low income country. This all started when people
when into poverty and could not afford to keep people in their business so then it made it to where the
people that owned the business go bankrupt and not be able to afford their business and then the whole
cycle started again. From

How Did Shakespeare Use Astrology During The Renaissance
Most of what s been said about shakespeare s use of Astrology was so simplistic that it s irrelevant.
Mainly because the people reading his work don t know enough about it while they are reading it.
Astrology during the Renaissance was based on the complex system of numbers, the Part of Fortune,
and harmony of spheres. Professional astrologers that hear him not only catch his references to the
stars, planets, and signs, but also the pervasive and underlying worldview that astrology is the central
study of the universe. During the renaissance, ordinary folks tended to use terms like the stars to mean
luck or fortune and the names of the planets for some quality that was specific to that planet, as Mars
to anger or Venus to love.

La Vita E Bella Themes
La Vita é Bella (Life is Beautiful) directed by Roberto Benigni is a film test of resiliency in a light and
humorous way but dark at the same time in the settings of WW2. The main character Guido Orefice is
a fun, sharp Jewish guy who alongside his beautiful wife, Dora and his son Giosué are taken away into
the Nazi concentration camp. The film highlights many themes, which enables the audience to
understand through the influence of the context. These include challenging stereotypes and power
structures, the loss of identity and the power of love. Each of these themes are reinforced by a variety
of visual conventions.
One theme explored in the film is challenging stereotypes and power structures as the film is set
during WW2. Mussolini had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A screen text which says Arezzo, Italy 1939 indicates the Holocaust and its persecution and killing of
Jews. Viewers understand how the context affects the way of thinking and behaving of its victims. In
the concentration camp. Guido made up a game for his son to protect him from the harsh reality and
the cruelty of the Nazis. When Guido hides Giosué in the box, the father is seen from a low angle and
their faces are lit. Everything else is in darkness but they are bright and novel amidst all this chaos.
Guido s preservance of finishing the game resulted in his execution. Although viewers do not see him
being shot, the blue illumination created represents melancholy and the sadness of sacrificing oneself
for a loved one. As Giosué comes out into the world, there is a wide shot of his small hiding place
compared to the enormity of the situation he is in, also known as the Final Solution. At daybreak the
prisoners emerge in the absence of music. Only the shuffling of feet can be heard; humanity survives.
The wide shot emphasises the scale of suffering. Prisoners often emerge in pairs. The moral of the
story is that you can t destroy love. Music is triumphant and upbeat as the prisoners walk away down
the hill. A final freeze frame and a text stating Abbiamo Vinto! (We Won!) is shown as Giosué unites
with his mother. Colours of the Italian countryside are bright and hopeful indicating that light, love
and hope have

The Common Core State Standards Asking Too Much Of...
Are the Common Core State Standards Asking Too Much of Elementary Children?
When many people think of elementary education, they think of reading small passages and learning
the difference between addition and subtraction in easy, creative ways. Now, with the new Common
Core State Standards implemented, today s kids will have more things to worry about. They are asked
more challenging questions and expected to have more rigorous answers. This does not set a steady
learning pace for the average child. In 2009, many states adopted a new schooling standard called the
Common Core State Standards. These are a set of popular K 12 standards in English Language Arts
and Mathematics with future standards in other subjects like Social Studies. They were created for the
poor quality of content (Polikoff) standards and to ensure that every student will learn the same things
at the same pace. Researchers claim that the standards are better than the current state standards,
raising the expectations of performance for students. Although Common Core is supposed to be higher
quality, there are many challenges it would face such as technology upgrades, content coverage,
computer scoring, etc. Before the Common Core State Standards, each state set its own standards
similar to one another. With Common Core Standards, every state will have the same standards to base
student performance off of. Another reason these new standards were put into place is to ensure that
America will be able to

Culture, Race, and Gender in Sports Essay
Culture, Race, and Gender in Sports When a person of a specific gender enters a non traditional sport
for their gender/sex, many social and moral issues will arise challenging that person involved in that
particular sport. The intentions of the individual will be questioned as well as their personal interest in
the sport. Before any of these questions are asked, there must be a redefinition of gender roles,
femininity, and masculinity. In order for a person to enter a non traditional sport for their gender/sex
without being criticize about gender morality, society must set flexible definitions for femininity and
masculinity. Society must begin to accept the variety of sports both men and women can compete in

Through the movies viewed in this course this semester, we saw women who were able to play against
men and still keep their femininity. Nothing is lost when playing sports not traditionally meant for a
particular race or gender. Society must become more understanding when it comes to the sports
different types of people play and hinder from stereotyping anyone when they participate and perform
well in that sport. When women decide to participate in sports traditionally for men such as
bodybuilding, they risk the chance of being socially stereotyped as lesbians, or simply viewed as less
feminine then say women figure skaters. For example, Venus Williams is seen as criticized for being
very masculine in build and judged on that by her performance. The media has commented on how
well she plays, and has compared her to men in her sport. She receives fewer endorsements than many
other tennis players do because of her looks (but mainly due to her race). Men place themselves in the
same situation when they chose to perform/participate in traditional female sports like field hockey,
socially stereotyped as gay or less masculine than hockey players. There has been a change in the way
certain gender sports were viewed when women/men attempted to challenge the boundaries.
Gymnastics for example began as an all male sport. It was believed that women did not have the build
nor strength to compete in this sport. In 1928 were women allowed to compete in the Olympics in

Theme Of Letters In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Letters in the Chronicle of a death foretold The Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a novel by Gabriel
Garcia Marquez that revolves around the narrator s attempts to put together the pieces of memories of
a murder that took place in a small Colombian town twenty seven years in the past. This passage from
the novel takes place in the end of chapter four where Angela is said to have written weekly letters to
Bayardo for seventeen years until the day he showed at her workplace with a stack of unopened
letters. In this passage, Garcia Marquez uses magical realism, symbolism, and characterization to
highlight the significance of the ritual of writing and receiving letters as opposed to the importance of

The importance of the writing ritual is seeing when in an interview with the narrator, Angela says that
it was enough for me to know that he was getting them (Garcia Marquez 93). This statement shows
that the fact that he was receiving the letters was enough, even if he wasn t reading them. The ritual of
writing symbolizes the importance of actions over words. The letters represent different things which
is seen when Angela spilled inkwell over a finished letter and rather than tearing it up she added a
postscript: As proof of my love I send you my tears (Garcia Marquez 94). The letter represented
Angela s mood as well as her feelings and their appearance holds more value than the information
which they contain. The letters were also described as being at first a fiancée s notes, then they were
little messages from a secret lover, perfumed cards from a furtive sweetheart, business papers, love
documents (Garcia Marquez 93). The letters are representative of multiple of things from their
appearance to their purpose which highlights on the importance of the ritual of

Chuck s Experiences During World War II
To him, nothing came close to the feeling of being ten thousand feet in the air (Jones). Charles Nelson
seemed to have been born for the skies, even from a young age Charles Nelson, more commonly
known as Chuck, knew exactly what he was gonna do when he was older. He was gonna be a pilot,
and he wasn t gonna let anything or anybody stop him. He would share his hopes and dreams with his
first cousin, my grandfather, Tom Jones. Chuck was older than Tom and as result Tom came to respect
Chuck, from this grew a bond that allowed Chuck to feel safe enough to share his dreams with Tom.
Little did Chuck know that his dreams would lead him right into one of the largest wars of all time,
and change the outcome of the rest of his life. Chuck s experiences during World War II were very
unique and not at all the norm of what most pilots experienced during the Second World War. Context
World War II was an event that truly left a mark on history, it is probably one of the most famous wars
of all time, especially on a global scale. There are many different reasons why World War II occurred,
and those reasons branch out into even more reasons when you look at why each individual country
got involved. One could write far more then five pages on that subject alone, because of this I have
decided to focus more on why aerial warfare became the big deal that it was in World War II. When
the Second World War was coming into being we were only a few decades beyond the First World
War, it was

CanGo Online Gaming Industry
The largest factor which must be examined in regards to CanGo entering the online gaming industry is
the probability of success, which is measured by profit. Upper management must consider many
financial factors that will be imperative to the overall success of the company. In order to implement
the new sector into the company auspiciously, expenses in relation to human resources, supply and
logistics management, marketing, and the procurement and deployment of new and existing
technology/methodologies must be examined. The company has currently projected an increase of
500% in net sales which will cause an increase in expenses to accommodate the resources required to
handle the upsurge of demand. CanGo will need to hire new personnel in order to maintain order
demand and will also require new technical staff members in order to implement and maintain the
required hardware and software necessary for on line gaming. CanGO must also account for storage
and trucks required for shipping. One of the most important and potentially largest expenses CanGo
must consider is marketing in regards to the on line gaming industry. Examining all previously
mentioned items will assist in the assessment of profitability for CanGo within the on line gaming
industry. Recommendation: Many new businesses and projects fail due to not properly completing a
profit analysis projection. Completing a projected profit analysis allows upper management,
stakeholders, and key decision makers to make

  • 2. The Function Of Gun Control The function of guns in society is a very controversial topic that has long been debated. There are those who believe that guns have no purpose in the hands of private citizens and civilians. Whereas, others believe that guns are the very foundation that protects American s rights and liberties stated in the Constitution. Under the second amendment that was ratified in the Supreme Court s ruling in 1791, Americans have the right to bear arms at the level of an individual, not just the well regulated militia. For the vast majority of Americans, the central issue associated with gun control is the upshot of crime, which rolls over onto public health. Americans are twenty times more likely to be killed by a gun than any other developed nation on Earth. It is a sobering fact that today, there have been more American deaths by guns than American deaths caused by wars dating by to the American Revolution. Gun control advocates believe that having stricter gun control laws will make guns less accessible and more difficult to gain possession of by people who should not have them such as criminals or the mentally ill. They reason that this will cause a decrease in the number of deaths. Gun ownership proponents argue that the creation of such laws would interfere with American citizens rights to bear arms (for self protection against crimes and unjust government.) Following these laws would also create other issues such as law abiding citizens being prey to criminals due to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Keystone Pipeline In February 9, 2005, the TransCanada proposed a pipeline system that would be able to transport crude oil from Canada into the United States. The pipeline was given the name the Keystone Pipeline System. Originally, the pipeline was to run from Alberta, Canada to refineries in Illinois. However, in 2008 another proposition was raised in order to extend the pipeline even further to down to Texas. The proposition is known as the Keystone XL. The possible construction of the pipeline is a controversial topic. Entrepreneurs believe that such a pipeline will stimulate the nation s economy and lead to an increase in the amount of jobs. On the other side, environmentalists believe that the pipeline will be detrimental for the environment as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, Canada itself is a foreign nation. In the attempt to close our doors to foreign dependency on oil, we are actually becoming even more dependent on solely one foreign nation. The amount of oil we will receive from Canada is a substantial amount since it will replace overseas imports on foreign oil. Instead of being more reliant on our own oil, we are only shifting focus to rely on another nation that is not in economic or political turmoil. Secondly, the Keystone Pipeline itself is an export pipeline. Canada will be using the pipeline in order to transport crude oil to refineries in the Gulf Coast. Once the crude oil reaches the Gulf Coast, refineries will refine the crude oil into diesel and export it to Europe and Latin America. We will not be dependent on these countries anymore for their oil, but we will be involved in the importing and exporting of oil. In fact, this will actually pull the U.S. into a greater involvement with these nations. According to Oil Change International, the only way that we can actually reduce our dependency on foreign oil is to reduce our dependency on all oil as a whole. Throughout history, our energy sources have been constantly changing, from steam, to coal, and now to oil. We are in need of a new energy source and one that is actually reliable. Once we attain it, we will no longer be dependent on oil. The construction of the Keystone XL is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Comparing The Italian And Italian Renaissance Carlos Andrade October 26, 2015 Art 111 Northern Renaissance and Italian Renaissance Differences between the Italian and Northern Renaissance The Renaissance was a period of great cultural and technological changes which swept Europe from the end of the 13 century. It was integral in developing Europe into a powerhouse. Although, each part of Europe was subjected to different changes, there were two primary renaissances which were most notable. They were the Italian and the Northern renaissance. Both of these renaissances had a profound impact on Europe. But they also had some typical differences among them and each was unique in its own way. Italian Renaissance The opening phase of renaissance was started by the Italian renaissance. It was a period of great Cultural changes and achievement throughout Europe. It spanned from the end of the 13 century up to about the 1600 s. It marked the transition of Europe from the medieval period to the Early Modern Europe. The term renaissance is in essence a modern one that came into currency in the nineteenth century, in the work of historians such as Jacob Burckhardt. Although the origins of a movement that was confined largely to the literate culture of intellectual endeavor and patronage can be traced to the earlier part of the 14th century, many aspects of Italian culture and society remained largely medieval; the Renaissance did not come into full swing until the end of the century. The word renaissance (Rinascimento in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Questions On Mortgage Backed Securities And Credit Default... Mortgage backed securities and credit default swaps are words we often hear in reference to the Great Recession of 2008. In this paper, I will be discussing and analyzing an analogy Tim Harford uses to discuss the probability of buying a carton of eggs with an egg having a double yolk to what mortgage backed securities and credit default swaps meant and represented. In chapter 6 of the updated book, The Undercover Economist, a lady named Fiona Exon is mentioned. In early 2010 she bought half a dozen eggs and discovered all 6 of them had double yolks. According to the British Egg Information Service the chance of any given egg having two yolks is one in a thousand and for each one of the 6 eggs you keep multiplying this probability and get a probability of one in a quintillion (thousand raised to the power of 18). This was reported to the media and surprisingly more people called in to report discoveries of half a dozen double yolk eggs. This event that was known to be very rare was not really that rare. The calculation, in reality, was wrong as they had made a wrong assumption that eggs with double yolks only come in clusters, increasing the chance of seeing 6 double yolk eggs by a million billion fold with this simple assumption. So knowing that there was a really high probability of ending up with half a dozens of double yolk eggs, Fiona Exon s friendly local egg retailer came up with a clever marketing wheeze and offered a million pound jackpot to any customer who ... • 6. Oxidative Stress Lab Report Biochemistry of Free Radicals and Oxidative Stress The research was done by Sabry M. El Bahr at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, P.O. Box 22758, Alexandria University, Egypt. The overall purpose of this experiment was to study the causes of oxidative stress that is caused by free radical. It is known that the free radicals and the Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) are used interchangeably. ROS can damage DNA, biomembrane lipids, proteins and other macromolecules. The primary source of ROS is the leakage of electron from the respiratory chain during the reduction of molecular oxygen to water generating superoxide anion. The classification of ROS includes oxygen centered radicals and oxygen centered non radicals. Moreover, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The system can take care of those reactive oxygen species, some of them are enzymes, including glutathione peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase which are the most major antioxidant enzymes that are capable to minimize oxidative stress in the organelles, and some are non enzyme antioxidants such as glutathione, selenium, vitamin C and E. Oxidative stress is when the balance is in favor of oxidase, so when the antioxidants systems in the cell cannot keep up, something gets out of whack and things start to come oxidized. This can happen in a lot of ways, we have endogenous sources of ROS; things that are happening in the cell like aerobic cellular respiration where the ROS are being produced as a result of some byproduct or some cellular process that supposed to be occurring like electron transport in cellular respiration or breaking down fatty acid and peroxisome. In this study, scientist found that there are levels of free radicals reactivity of the compounds that are being produced in the cell; some with least reactivity such as H2O2, and some are highly reactive such as OH. The free radicals can affect the cell negatively. One of the element that generates free radicals and causes oxidative stress is cadmium. It increases lipid peroxidation and/or changes intracellular glutathione levels. However, investigators found that some plants such as curcumin is a natural drug that works ... • 7. Hamlet And The Basic Human Need For Truth Hamlet and the Basic Human Need for Truth Marcus Aurelius is quoted as saying, Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth. This idea is examined in William Shakespeare s Hamlet, a play full of warmly delivered lies and completely intentional deceit. Hamlet himself shows how a life full of lies and deceit breeds a desire for something real. In the beginning of the play, authenticity is introduced as a rare trait and the Ghost reveals treachery to Hamlet setting him on a path that leads to his demise. Hamlet s actions are motivated by a search for something real and true in both his life and himself and in this search he comments on the nature of truth itself. Within Shakespeare s Hamlet resides a strong theme of illusion and reality shown in the attention that is drawn to the seeming and being within the characters. The play itself is about acting because not only are actors required to act out the parts that are written, but also the characters themselves are acting. They put on a facade just as an actor assumes a role on the stage (Bloom 11). Rosencrantz and Guildenstern seem to be concerned friends. Instead, they are simply acting as such because they are charged by the king to find the origin of Hamlet s peculiar behavior. Gertrude seems to be the dutiful queen that married Claudius for the benefit of the kingdom itself while she has simply failed to grieve her husband, dishonored his memory by marring so soon after ... • 8. The Monster s Transformation Given that, maturity and familiarization become catalyst to the Monster s transformation. The parent less environment forces the Monster to let his curiosity serves as a starting point. Distort from their starting point, the Monster begins to form an opinion about himself. I viewed myself in the transparent pool! At first I started back, unable to believe that was indeed who I was reflected in the mirror: and when I became fully convinced that I was in the reality the monster that I am, I was filled with bitterest sensation of despondence and mortification (16. 116 17). The pool serves as conduit to help The Monster notice the aesthetic differences between himself and the cottagers. However, it sets the pace for the Monster to begin to unfairly desire that which is unattainable. Exhibitive in the comparison, is the rapid rate at which the Monster is acquiring knowledge. Amidst knowledge, and its acquisition, it is paramount that misconceptions and comparisons to others, be put in perspective, but this is impossible. On his own, he formulates an opinion and does not have another individual to challenge his belief system. The philosophical opposition would present an alternative viewpoint from which to see himself. The silence that surrounds him plants the seed which creates the potential to manifest into something more devious, and destructive, as per his superhuman abilities. Successive to learning the disparity between himself and the humans, the Monster continues to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Constant economic reforms led to a reduction in poverty in some regions with some exceptions. Latin American countries face many challenges but also they are niches of opportunity. Across regions a high sense of inequality and low penetration of technology are among the most recognizable challenges. In this regard, FDI works as the main engine for Latin American countries and has been increasing steadily over the recent years. Latin America may therefore include FDI as a key component of their modernization strategy, because of the potential benefits FDI is likely to generate to their economies. In particular, Latin American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much research on FDI and IPR has been done during recent years and although many economists have recognized the role of IPR in acknowledging the issues of technology diffusion and the generation of new technology, studies have also criticized the role of the owners of IPRs over the market. On the other hand, the main focus on FDI is directly linked to technology transfer, from L.A countries perspective FDI has been seen as the main provider of technologies and skills, that are crucial and necessary for L.A countries to attain sustainable economic development. Several economists have investigated ways of transferring technology, however, all of them agree that the most significant and efficient way to transfer technology is through FDI. Ideas and knowledge are public goods, non rival and non excludable. In this sense everyone has the right to imitate it or acquire it. Because the generation of technology is involved with costs, not protecting the interests of innovators can result in a lack of investment in such areas and can result in a market failure. A well structured IPR regime generates a temporary monopoly to innovators and enables them to achieve rents in order to have a return on their investments. • 11. Persecution In The Passage Of Persecution Hebrews 10:33,34 states Sometimes you were exposed to public ridicule and were beaten, and sometimes you helped others who were suffering the same things. You suffered along with those who were thrown into jail, and when all you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with joy. You knew there were better things waiting for you that will last forever (NLT). Whomever the author could be for it is unknown to those reminds the Hebrew Christians that they have once faced persecution before. Being persecuted for living a life of Christ instead of self, may bring pain and sorrow upon Christians. For Christ, endured pain and sorrow on the way toward to the cross or his earthly death. The author goes on to say that those that have been persecuted greater things were to come their way. All they had to do was remain faithful to God and God would be faithful to them. Those who are studying this passage of scripture must know that they too will be tested or persecuted in their faith walk, must know that God is on their side. The persecutions will bring about trust, strength, and patience. The issues that come with persecution in this passage of scripture is that Christians does not have to do anything wrong or sin against God, just claiming to be a child of God only brings about persecution. Two ways to overcome this persecution is to know that God is always with his children, and Christ will return to his children one day and carry them away with him into Heaven. When it comes to ... In the international system, liberalists argue that humans by nature are inherently good and cooperative, humanity can be rationale and non state actors are considered highly important factors. Liberalism suggests that there a fundamental human rights that may in turn help promote cooperation and cohesion between states. Along with Kant, another leading liberal who emerged from the European Enlightenment was Jeremy Bentham, who argued that between the activities of nations there is nowhere any real conflict. Furthermore, during the nineteenth century, John Stuart Mill, argued that government was a necessary evil . In his Book, On Liberty (1849), Mill defines liberty being capital in ensuring successive advance, both of society and the individual. Lastly, the works of Michael Doyle is his theory on democratic peace. The basic hypothesis of this theory is that, as states become more democratic, they become more peacefully inclined (J. Pettiford 2010: 32). Recognizable to Kant s position on peace and the foundation of equitable international system, is Francis Fukuyama s The End of History and the Last man. In the book, Fukuyama argues, that at the end of the twentieth century, the combination of liberal democracy and capitalism has proved to be superior to any alternative political/economic system, and the reason lies in its ability to satisfy the basic drives of human nature (M. Algebraic And Transcendental Equation Solution of Algebraic Transcendental Equation Introduction When mathematically modeling real life situations we often come across equations in the form of f(x)=0. These equations can either be in the form of algebraic or transcendental equations. In certain cases, these equations may prove to be difficult to solve, as the equation may not have an exact answer. A problem of great importance in science and engineering is that of determining the roots/zeros of an equation of the form f(x) =0 A polynomial equation(algebraic equation) f(x)= Pn(x) = a0xn + a1xn 1 +a2xn 2 + + an 1x + an An equation that contains polynomials, exponential functions, trigonometric functions etc. ... For instance, a contender who measures more than 200 pounds has more drive behind his punch, while a boxer who weighs 140 pounds will probably be quicker and more light footed than the heavier boxer. While weight classes were initially isolated into eight divisions, the confining classes today are separated to 17 divisions, permitting contenders to be all the more unequivocally coordinated with their weight partners. Many of them may even be different from our own. For example John Haught, in his book God and the New Atheism shares his belief that, Science alone can tell us what religion is really all about, and it can provide better answers than theology to every important question people ask (x). Berger and Zijderveld, on the other hand, argue in In Praise of Doubt that, Whether God does or does not exist in cosmic reality is another question. Haught believes that the new atheist s theological literacy is closely related to that of religious fundamentalists. The new atheists scarcely notice the irony in their intolerance of religious tolerance he says, On the one hand they bring up past inquisitions as evidence of the evils of religion, but on the other they now excoriate theological moderates who espouse the new spirit of tolerance. Moreover, they seem not to notice that the very same liberal tolerance in modern Western history that influenced the Catholic Church to change its stand on religious freedom provides the cultural space and freedom of expression by which the new atheists themselves are permitted to vent their own literalist ideas (Haught 37, 38). Here, Haught points out the intolerance of the new atheists and one can easily see that he does not approve. In the book In Praise of Doubt, Berger and Zijderveld argue that it is possible for individuals to hold moral certainty about societal values without succumbing to the extremes of either 1) the new atheists fundamentalism (complete lack of certainty) or 2) relativism (absolute certainty). One of their main points throughout the majority of this book is the idea that modernity leads to plurality. They explain, Modernization ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When many people think of elementary education, they think of reading small passages and learning the difference between addition and subtraction in easy, creative ways. Now, with the new Common Core State Standards implemented, today s kids will have more things to worry about. They are asked more challenging questions and expected to have more rigorous answers. This does not set a steady learning pace for the average child. In 2009, many states adopted a new schooling standard called the Common Core State Standards. These are a set of popular K 12 standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics with future standards in other subjects like Social Studies. They were created for the poor quality of content (Polikoff) standards and to ensure that every student will learn the same things at the same pace. Researchers claim that the standards are better than the current state standards, raising the expectations of performance for students. Although Common Core is supposed to be higher quality, there are many challenges it would face such as technology upgrades, content coverage, computer scoring, etc. Before the Common Core State Standards, each state set its own standards similar to one another. When women decide to participate in sports traditionally for men such as bodybuilding, they risk the chance of being socially stereotyped as lesbians, or simply viewed as less feminine then say women figure skaters. For example, Venus Williams is seen as criticized for being very masculine in build and judged on that by her performance. The media has commented on how well she plays, and has compared her to men in her sport. Men place themselves in the same situation when they chose to perform/participate in traditional female sports like field hockey, socially stereotyped as gay or less masculine than hockey players.
