There are several reasons why cooperative learning works well. The idea that students learn more by
doing something active than by simply watching and listening has long been known to both
cognitive psychologists and effective teachers (Bransford, et. al., 2000) and cooperative learning is
by its nature an active method. Beyond that, cooperation enhances learning in several ways. Weak
students working individually are likely to give up when they get stuck; working cooperatively,
they keep going. Strong students faced with the task of explaining and clarifying material to weaker

Author M.T. Anderson effectively captures the sentiment lived by the Russians in his book
Symphony for the City of the Dead when he tells the story of a young man, Dmitri Shostakovich,
who survived Joseph Stalin s deadly regime and Adolf Hitler s attack on his native city of
Leningrad. Throughout the story, Stalin finds new ways to subjugate his people by eliminating
anyone who contradicted his ideals. Then, the story takes a sinister path when the Germans attack
on Russiaduring World War II becomes inevitable.
The story begins when a Soviet agent gives an American agent a wooden box which contained a
microfilm with Shostakovich s seventh symphony inscribed in it. This box was taken across the
desserts of the Middle East and North Africa to Cairo, then flown to Brazil, and from there to the
United States (p. 2). The symphony would be played across the country and it would encourage
Americans to aid the Soviets in their attempt to defeat the Nazis.
Afterwards, Anderson goes back in time and reveals how the life of a genius, Shostakovich, was
affected by a series of war conflicts including a revolution and World War I

he also witnessed the birth of a Communist Russia after Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks seized
power. For a brief period, this new government supported and encouraged artists to develop their

Dark matter is a hypothesized form of matter particle that does not reflect or emit electromagnetic
radiation. The existence of dark matter is inferred from gravitational effects on visible matter, such

universe and the existence of the human race. Since either dark matteror dark energy have neither
been actually observed and all theories, we will be evaluating them from scientific standpoint.

matter, no one can really tell what exactly it is. This is why dark matter is the generic term used to
describe the part of the universe in which light is neither absorbed nor reflected. Through the
evaluated articles, we can deduce that the theory was first proposed by Astronomer Jon Oort in
1932 and further examined in 1933 by Fritz Zwicky. While studying, he made note of a large
portion of missing mass within the galaxy. Jan Oort was studying the matter in the galaxy and
noticed that there has to be more mass then that could be seen but figured that he made an error.

scholars have known for a long time that the consumption of media is rarely an isolated
experience, and is instead typically social in nature (Katz Lazarsfeld, 1955) However, while many

My primary short term academic goal is to earn my Associate of Applied Science degree in

The development of Confucianism came to an all of a sudden stop during the Chin dynasty
(221BCE 206BCE) where the First Emperor didn t approve of the Confucian ideas, therefore
declared that anyone who differed with the state in their ideas, were killed, and all of Confucius
teachings and books were to be burnt.
After the death of the Emperor, the Chin dynasty was overthrown by the Han dynasty, where
Confucianism was not only re introduced, but became the dominant school of thought among
imperial officials. But not long after this happening, the new leaders were convinced that having a
foot in Confucian philosophy, is leading you the right way in life.

The pigs deception is so effective because they built their reputation of being intelligent within
the farm and thus the animals accept what they say as true. The pigs reputation is present from
the beginning of Animal Farm when Major tries to encourage the other animals to rebel. Major
is so highly regarded on the farm that everyone was quite ready to lose an hour s sleep in order to
hear what he had to say (Orwell 4). This quote shows how important Major is and how influential
he is on the farm. Thus, one can assume that his reputation in a way represents the other pigs for he
is the most prominent member of the pigs. His reputation of being wise and benevolent is the
reason the animalsrevere him so. Then when he dies the work of organizing the animals falls
upon the pigs. The work of teaching and organizing the others fell upon the pigs, who were
generally recognized as being the cleverest animals (Orwell 15). This quote show that the other
animals who are collectively less educated than the pigs are heavily relying on the pigs reputation
to figure out in their mind who they are. By generalizing the pigs as intelligent the animals fall into
the trap that many people do. A real example of this is how people sometimes generalize Muslims
as terrorist. When one generalizes, they can either open themselves up or ignorantly close
