Benefits Of College Credit In College
Earning college credit in high school sounds like a dream for many students, and can be extremely
beneficial, but there are various downfalls. Throughout the United States there are many programs
that offer students opportunities to obtain college credits. The four most popular are Advanced
Placement(AP), International Baccalaureate(IB), Collegein the School (CIS), and Postsecondary
Enrollment Options (PSEO).
Advanced Placement(AP) offers rigorous, college level classes that gives students an
opportunity to gain skills that colleges recognize. To earn college credits, students must take an
AP exam. AP exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5. A score of 5,4, or 3 mean the student did well,
and is qualified to receive college credit for that course, but anything lower than a 3 does not
qualify the student for college credits.
The second program I will be discussing is, The International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The IB
programs mission is to, develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to
create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. ( ) The IB
organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop
challenging courses and rigorous assessment. These courses encourage students across the world to
become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their
differences, can also be right. To obtain an IB diploma, students must receive a

The Conformity Of Individuality In Henry David Twain s...
A nation is only as good as the people who comprise it. In regards to the United States, tragedy
permeates the nation when its citizens decide to conform to the standards imposed by the majority.
As a multitude of Americans alter themselves to fit in and be accepted, their individuality floats
away into the abyss. Nevertheless, the process of conforming may not always be such a bad thing.
Conforming gives Americans the ability to connect to species that holds immense value. A species
greater than anything they could have ever became while isolated. Now, although humans
unconsciously conform to the standards of others, this process of conforming is detrimental to all
Americans as it diminishes a person s self identityalong with their true life s purpose. Every
standard and regulation an American abides by is influenced by their fellow citizens. The basic
human nature of a person propels them to conform to the lifestyle of others. This concept is present
within Henry David Thoreaus Civil Disobedience in which he explains that even the most
successfully men can be imposed on [...] for their own advantage. Thoreau implies that when a
person is exposed to others of high authority or legitimacy, they develop the desire to act like and
feel acceptance from said persons. As Mark Twainillustrates in his essay Corn pone Opinions ,
people base their standards of ideals on a matter of association and sympathy, not reasoning and
examination. Thus as humans rely heavily on

Understanding Engineering And Leadership Skills
As a young graduate student from field of Industrial Management, I have always wondered about
the transformation of one s personality from student to a responsible employee and then to a leader
driving a group. This course has taught me the basic structure of interpersonal skills that should be
part of one s repertoire to evolve in professional life. As the course draws to conclusion I am
confident that the communication and leadershipskills gained during this period have shaped me
into a better manager. Being a better manager will help me in efficiently handling the challenges
posed by corporate world in my professional life.

The communication among us was lacking acknowledgement, appreciation and apologizing.
The other requirement of being part of a high achieving group was to display theatre skills in
driving my points and also the group s idea as a whole. My introvert or shy attitude did not help
me in being a good presenter during the core meetings of our groups. Due to the lack of impressive
presentation and theatre skills, my confidence was going lower with every opportunity to present
our ideas. After the meetings I was left with the feeling of letting down myself and the entire group
who have trusted me to showcase the group s achievements.
While I was working for my previous company, once there was a teambuilding session in which
me and fellow colleagues were divided into groups and were handed out specific tasks such as
building a gingerbread house. Our team had some of the best employees in my division and I
naturally expected us to win the teambuilding event. To everybody s surprise we could never got
started on the activity. It was not clear then why we failed to even kick start the teambuilding
activity. During this course I started to understand the reason behind our failure. It was due to
lack of an able leadership. None of us were willing to be a leader, one who can create a healthy
space for communication, display vision, empower others with confidence and create a comfortable
space to work. This

Essay about The Aspects of Multiculturalism in Canada
A country built on immigration, Canada has long had a reputation of being culturally and ethnically
diverse. While multiculturalism is meant to be built on equality and appreciation of different
cultures, its concept has gained both support and opposition. On one hand, it allows for more
assortment and the voices of minorities have a higher chance to be heard. On the other hand, loss of
unity and conflicts may occur due to contrasting worldviews of the citizens. All in all,
multiculturalismis a controversial policy that has both advantages and disadvantages, but has
proven to be a successful strategy in Canada.
Multiculturalism has many positive effects, including but not limited to freedom of religion and
beliefs, increased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Negative aspects of multiculturalism are also in effect, such as incoherence within a nation, loss of
national identity, and conflicts among different ethnic groups. First of all, while differences are
highlighted and encouraged, they are also a cause of disjointedness among the different ethnic
groups in a country because they fail to function as one nation, instead forming small communities.
This often causes a lack of communication between such ethnic groups and leads to a loss of unity
in a country. Furthermore, immigration and pluralism often lead to a diminishment or complete
disappearance of national identity in a multicultural country. An example of this is Canada because
it was created on the basis of immigration without having its own distinct culture from the
beginning, but choosing to include different cultures instead to become what is known today as a
multicultural society. While generally it is seen in a positive light, it often raises concern that the
country s identity may disappear altogether in the future. Finally, intense pluralism is oftentimes a
reason for riots and conflicts, indirectly related to immigrants or ethnicity. For example, in France
tension among ethnic groups and riots have happened in the past because of the conditions of the
communities where the original immigrants settled in, combining high unemployment rates and
discrimination. ( France Riots ) Sweden

Case Study Of Subway
Business Identification Summary: The above case study is about the success story of Subway.
Subway s type of ownership is franchise. Subway was founded in the year 1965 in state of
Connecticut in the United States of America by Fred DeLuca who 17 years old at the time and
was looking to pay his college fees by opening a sandwich shop. DeLuca s restaurant has since
expanded and is, today, one of the largest restaurant franchises in the world. DeLuca started by
getting a loan of $1000 from a close friend who encouraged him to open his own restaurant. In 1965,
he started his first restaurant but the result was underwhelming. Instead of closing his business
down, he went on and opened a second restaurant. Yet again, the result was underwhelming.... Show

Argumentative Essay On Drinking Milk
You always hear your mom or dad say, Drink your milk, so you can get stronger! but is milk
really making you strong, or is it actually hurting you? Scientists say, Dairy consumption can
play a role in asthma, Parkinson s disease, and highly elevated blood pressure. Dairy is highly
inflammatory, causing issues like bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, and acne. When you
drink milk, you are actually consuming far more than just milk. American dairy farmers have
long been injecting cows with a genetically engineered bovine growth hormone called rBGH to
increase milk production(MindBodyGreen), So what are you really putting in your body that
according to your parents makes you Big and Strong ? In this paper, I tell you the truth about the
three most common dairy products that just might leave you speechless. Dairy consumption can
lead to fatal diseases. The average amount of serving you pay per gallon is 25 cents. Why are
you paying that if it s so unhealthy? Over the years, scientist and nutritionist have created lactose
free, dairy free, and soy free milk. A popular brand that we often consume is Silk. It s free of all
of soy, lactose, and dairy. Milk isn t unhealthy, in fact milk is very healthy, but the dairy in the

A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
In the world of sex, drugs, and baby cloning you are going to be in many situations where you
feel like the world we live in should be different. In the story Brave New World, they had sex with
multiple partners along with a very bad use of drugs.
It is weird that Aldous Huxley wrote this book in 1931 about the world he was living in during
that time and how it is similar to the world we live in today. Nowadays, drugs are still being used
and people are still engaging in sexual encounters with multiple partners. Things are no different
than they use to be. People still to this day are using drugs and committing adultery as if there aren
t any diseases out there. In the story they introduced a drug named Soma. This particular drug was
the narcotic they used to escape the world they lived in.
Aldous Huxley did not like being in London because he felt the people there were basically all
the same. Aldous Huxley was characterized by people as being very weird to people because he
didn t like to do the things they did. He became so weird to people that the press and news
reporters became interested in talking to him in order to find out more about him. I have a
connection with this particular story because the world I m living in today is based on the same
things he described.
Sex is the main thing teenagers care about nowadays. In my generation kids look at you funny or
think you are weird if you do not have sex or have sex as often as they do. It seems as if people

Description Of A Beer Named Victoria Bitter Served
1.Introduction History The product which we have chosen for the analysis is a beer named
Victoria Bitter served in 375ml stubby bottle which is a lager produced, marketed and sold by
the Carlton and United Breweries which in actual is a unit of Foster s group Melbourne.
According to The Age (2014) Victoria Bitter is the second best cold beer sold in the Australian
nation. The above mentioned bottle has Oz markings which contains 13.20imp fl oz along with
4.9% of the edible alcohol. Till 2012 the stubbies remained the crown lager of all the brands
available in the country. This bottled version was first launched in the early phases of the 1990
but the recipe dates to the early 19th century and was developed by the Victoria Brewery founder
Thomas C. Moore. While the advertising campaign is said to be designed by Paul Hester the
Bottled version of the beer instantly became a premium choice of people with its launch in the
1990 s. Like the other lager brands in Australia Victoria Bitter Stubby is also made from stream
process which uses cane sugar in order to thin out the body of the beer. Apart from the 375m
stubby bottle the bran is also available in 750ml bottles, cans also known as twisties and also
throwies. In the northern territory the beer is available in the 1nn cans also known as killer cans. In
the start of 2012 the company thought to change the original recipe a bit with the alcohol amount to
be reduced to the 4.6% but the plan backfired and the organisation

Was The American Revolution Inevitable Dbq
Was the American Revolution inevitable? According to John Adams in 1818, the desire for
independence was already in the hearts of Americans long before war broke out in 1775. This was
untrue for many loyalists living in the colonies in 1775. However, there was simply nothing the
mother country could do to stop her colonies from wanting to move on from its natural state of
identity in order to grow into a unique and independent country. To begin with, Richard Bland in his
1766 An Inquiry Into the Rights of the British Colonies believed that America should be
independent as to their internal government, of the original Kingdom, but united with her, as to
their external policy... (Doc A). The Navigation Acts were an example of external acts,

The Stamp Act required colonists to purchase stamped paper for every legal document, license,
and newspaper and imposed special stamped duties on packages of playing cards and dice. All
who disobeyed the Act were to be tried in the vice admiralty courts. By May of 1765, Boston
shopkeepers, artisans, and laborers united in a resistance group called Sons of Liberty. By the
end of the summer, the Sons of Liberty harassed customs workers, stamp agents, and royal
governors faced mob threats and hence stamp agents resigned all over. The Act was to become
effective on November 1st, 1765, but colonial protests prevented stamped paper from being
sold. In the month of October, 1765, delegates from nine colonies met in NYC. Congress issued
a Declaration of Rights and Grievances: it stated that Parliament lacked power to impose taxes
on the colonies because they were not represented in Parliament. This was the first time in which
colonies began to set aside their differences and unite as one. Eventually, the Act was repealed
and in 1766, Parliament issued the Declaratory Act: it addressed Parliament s full right to make
laws in all cases whatsoever . The Tea Act was made in 1773 and it granted the East India
Company the right to sell directly to the colonies, free of taxes, this would cut colonial merchants
out of the tea trade because the company would sell for less. On December

Differences Between The Northern Colonies And Southern...
Life in the North American colonies was great at one point. At first we liked having protection
and assistance from the British. After a while, we Patriots yearned for more freedom. The British
had too many rules and controlled a lot of aspects of our lives, including the trading of goods. To
add, even though we were across the pond, they were telling us where to live. Us Patriots were
forced to provide housing to the British soldiers. Although we appreciated the help, we did not want
them taking over our new found land. The British provided sources of entertainment and ways to
see information like newspapers and other forms of entertainment, but charged us a hefty amount.
Many of us wanted to complain but we were not allowed to have a seat on the British Parliament.
Without this, we have no way of communicating our problems. How could the British tax us
without having someone to represent us? We were being taxed without representation and we were
tired of it! The British had taken off all the taxes except tea, and that was not enough. With no fair
ruling, we took matters into our own hands and dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor. Things
were different in Southern colonies compared to the Northern colonies. The reason for settlement in
the North was to have freedom of religion. In the South, people wanted financial gain stemming
from agriculture. Though they are known for cotton, tobacco was the main staple crop of the South.
Although the North colonies also wanted

Azalea Seafood Gumbo Shoppe Business Analysis Essay examples
Azalea Seafood Gumbo Shoppe is in the Seafood Packaging Industry . In this industry companies
take raw seafood materials and package them to sell to supermarkets, grocery stores and
restaurants. While Azalea does direct sales through catering the bulk of its revenue is derived from
wholesaling its foods (Appendix A). Larger compnaies in the industry typically work through a food
broker that will arange selling to supermarkets or grocery stores. A major advantage in using
food brokers is that preferred shelf placement can be arranged which aids in sales. For smaller
companies in the industry, like Azalea, it is diffiult to have access to food brokers because they do
not deal in a high enough volume.

Events like product recalls can have a terrible impact to companies in the industry. Brand
recognition ensures that the benefits of the quality product are realized. With many substitutes
readily available companies in the industry must brand themselves in a way that allows themselves
to stick out. Often decisions in grocery stores or made quickly, and with substitutes literally right
above or below having a brand image that evokes positive feelings with the end user is important.
Meeting these three goals ensures that both customers, the end consumer and the retailer, are
satisfied.
Porters Five Forces
Threat of New Entrants
The Seafood Packaging Industry has a few barriers to entry that work in its favor. These barriers
include access to distribution channels and government policies. To sell products members of
the industry need access to end users that will buy the product. This access is gained by selling
to distributors such as supermarkets, grocery stores, and restaurants. Gaining access to these
distributors is a difficult task. Ideally companies work through a food broker that can arrange a
distribution agreement, but for smaller companies like Azalea access to food brokers is difficult.
For a company to come into the market with such a large volume of sales that they could easily
attract food brokers they would need a large capital base which then provides an additional barrier.

Examples Of Emotional Contagion
Emotional Contagion Emotional contagion is an act where people receive and mimic emotions of
others. This includes the imitation of facial expression, vocal, postures and behavior of those
around them (Hatfield, Cacioppo, Rapson, 1993). Emotional contagion happens unconsciously; a
person who is not afraid of ghost might get scared from watching a horror filmbecause their friends

Abstract In order to see the effects of pH and temperature on the enzymatic reaction of catechol
oxidase when separated from potato tissue. We used a spectrophotometer to measure how much
blue light energy is absorbed by benzoquinone. Benzoquinone is a product of catechol when it
has been oxidized by different temperatures and pHs. We hypothesized that the benzoquinone
absorbance rate would be faster when the pH added to the cuvettes were greater than the pH of
the potato tissue. The pH of the potato tissue was pH 6. Our results show that pH 7 had the faster

Our hypothesis states that the benzoquinone absorbance rate would be faster when the pH added
to the cuvettes were greater than the pH of the potato tissue. At pH 7, reaction rates were the
fastest, but not at pH 10 like we predicted. We predicted that pH 4 would have the slowest to no
reaction rate, but it was faster than pH 10 because the potato tissue has a pH 6 and the pH 4 was
closest to the pH of the potato tissue. A possible reason our hypothesis was only partially
supported was because of possible cross contamination when preparing the cuvettes by not using
different disposable pipets for each pH solution, or the test tubes could have been labeled wrong
which caused them to be mixed up. In future experiments, we should look at the effects of pHs
closer to the pH of the potato tissue because we can infer that closer pHs to the pH of potato tissue
will have a faster reaction rate causing the potatoes to turn brown

Introduction
As a new worker you have finally landed that dream job, now what? You are excited about the
possibilities awaiting you at your new dream job. As you prepare for your first day, you are told
you will have to attend new hire orientation. Suddenly, the butterflies in your stomach return as you
anticipate what to expect next. Then you ask yourself, What is new hire orientation and what does
it mean for me? The goal of any successful onboarding program is to ensure that the investment in a
new employee pays off by creating a sense of connection between the new worker and the
organization. But what happens when company representatives lack ... Show more content on

Initially, Monica contacts Carl about the key items needed for orientation and he assures her
that everything is good to go. This could not have been further from the truth. At this point, he is
not aware of the problems he will face in his new endeavor. Carl s lack of experience is clearly
exhibited when his assurance has not been tested. The next key problem that arises for Carl is
when he checks the new trainee files and discovers that they are incomplete. All the new recruits
have gone through the interview process and filled out their paperwork. Unfortunately, the
paperwork is incomplete and missing lots of valuable data. To make matters worse, some files
are missing transcripts, and no one has completed the required drug screens. Problems only get
worse for Carl when he discovers that only three copies of the employee manuals exist. Of the
three manuals that exist, they are all missing several pages. Unfortunately, he needs fifteen
complete copies. As if the previous issues alone are not bad enough, Carl also learns that the
training room he plans to use for orientation has been booked by another individual for the entire
month of June. At this point, he is faced with a serious dilemma, and his lack of experience
reveals that he does not realize the severity of his problem. Namely, he lacks leadership because he
failed to prepare and assumed that his first project would go smoothly. Next, he

Essay on When One, Equals Two
The traditional family is being challenged. The days when mothers and fathers raised the children
together are sharing equal stature with single parent, mixed families with step parents and siblings
by marriage, and same sex families. Some families are carefully planned with love and are ideal.
Some of these families units have heartbreak in their origins. Familytragedies such as parental
death and separation have torn families apart. Divorce rates are higher than ever and more
families are faced with choosing, even fighting over, with which parent will the children live with.
One of the many statistics found in the U.S. Census in 2007 states that, More than one quarter of

In most cases, nature has designated mothers as the caretaker for the raising of offspring. Few argue
the fact that mothers have been the individuals to love and nurture children. From the beginning
recorded history, a mother s first duty was to her husband and then to children, based on traditional
and religious role definitions. But as the traditional families continued to change and evolve,
fathers have been forced to accept the multiple roles required to raise the children alone. Dads have
become moms in a sense.
As modern fathers have become adequate mothers in the single parent family unit, the notion that a
mother is the only nurturing individual in the family is simply not true now. The qualities of love,
patience, and compassion are not gender bound ( Single Dads 2001). Society has long been
transforming men from the cavemen lumbering to skilled hunter gatherers to loving husbands and
to caring parents. As single mothers have had to take on traditional paternal responsibilities as
financial providers and disciplinarians, so to have fathers accepted the traditional maternal roles in
the home, and as caregiver. Cooking and cleaning are shared responsibilities in the family now.
Consequently, men have taken the responsibility to change diapers, wipe runny noses, bathe and
comfort their hurting children in two parent households. Research shows that children benefit
greatly when a father is more involved in the nurturing of his children. So

Actions Caused by Cognitive Dissonance Essay
If I chose to do it or say it, I must believe in it. asserts the psychologist Leon Festinger (as cited in
Psychology: Eighth Edition in Modules, 2007, p.731). When we become aware that our actions
contradict our attitudes, we tend to revise our attitudes. This statement fits Festinger s cognitive
dissonance theory that asserts that we act to reduce discomfort or dissonance, an unpleasant
tension, we experience when two of our thoughts or cognitions are inconsistent. Mkimmie, et al.
(2003) investigated the impact of social support on cognitive dissonancearousal in their experiment,

Dissonance. The psychologists aimed to test the impact of social... Show more content on

The fact that the level of dissonance assessed in terms of attitude change was greatest for
participants given no support, but only when a shared group membership was made salient, proved
their first hypothesis. The participants subjected to the highest levels of dissonance, through a high
salience and nonsupport condition, distanced themselves from the group as the second hypothesis
predicted. Overall, the main point of this research was to examine the role of social support in the
arousal and reduction of cognitive dissonance. The researchers conducted this experiment in an
effort to augment rather than change current understanding of the dissonance phenomena; however,
this theory does not expand the current understanding of dissonance because it does not provide
concrete, reliable evidence of how group support can reduce cognitive dissonance. Also the
researchers did not test a random or a representative sample and inferred dissonance solely from
surveys that measured attitude change. The fact that surveys were used as the main method to
ascertain the self reported attitudes or behaviors of people weakens the theory s reliability and
validity. The wording and order of the questions could have had a major affect on how the subjects
responded and possibly skewed the researcher s central data. Additionally, the researchers did not
use a direct method to detect dissonance; instead, they merely inferred the presence of dissonance
exclusively from surveys

Driscoll Model Of Reflection In Nursing
INTRODUCTION The professional value that I have chosen to reflect on from my practice is
based on privacy and dignity for a patient admitted in the hospital. To enhance my reflection
development, Driscoll (2007) model of reflection; What? So what? Now what? will be apply.
According to (Lowenstein, Bradshaw, and Fuszard, 2004), reflection is the method of analysing
and reviewing one s practice as a nurse, with the aim of improving one s interactive skills with
both patient and colleagues. Reflection is a method of re evaluating practice accounts and
providing substitute tactics to doing things (Howatson Jones, 2016). Reflection is a vital
learning tools which can progress on innovative knowledge (O Carroll, Park and Nicol, 2007)
and enables the nurses to mirror on their practice effectively (Johns and Freshwater, 2009). The

Who Is Abigail A Dynamic Character In The Crucible
Throughout The Crucible, Abigail Williams is the biggest liar and manipulator in the play.
Although she is one of the worst characters in this story, she definitely is one of the most
interesting ones. Because she is such a dynamic character, there are many ways to analyze her.
Abigail also makes you change your point of view on her once the plot develops. She states that
her name has no blush in the village but there are many reasons why that is farthest from the truth.
For starters, Abigal is a pathological liar, which is one of the 10 comandments. You drank blood,
Abby... You drank a charm to kill John Proctors wife (Miller, 1136 1137). On page 1154, Abigail
tells Reverand Hale that she didn t drink chicken blood when confronted, but soon after confesses
to him that when Tituba conjured spirits, she forced her to drink the blood. Through all of the acts,
Abigail seems to lie her way through everything just to save herself, never having shame in it,
showing she is not a true Puritan woman. On page 1131, Abigail tries to persuade Parris that when

She threatens all the girls who danced with Tituba in the woods saying Let either of you breath a
word... I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you (Miller, 1137). Quotes simillar to
these can be seen periodically in the play in order to control everyone in Abigail s path.
Continuing, Abigail is also extremely manipulative. Using God as her scapegoat, she is able to
manipulate many into thinking that she is pure and has nothing to do with the devil. I want the
light of God, I want the sweet love of Jesus! (Miller, 1156). As you can see, Abigail is a liar and
manipulator which makes her a perfect charater to analyze. Being a protagonist helped create a
more dynamic and major character in this drama. Overall, Abigail Williams can be recognized as
on of the most controversial characters in The

Surfing- Counter Culture
In order to successfully understand the inexplicable surfer s lifestyle as a counter culture to main
society, we must first have a greater knowledge of the ingredients that make this culture so different
in the views of the social norm. A counter culture as described by Professor Chad Smith in the
second week of class is, When subcultures specially stand in direct opposition to the dominant
cultureof the society in which they are located, rejecting it s most important values and norms and
endorsing their opposites. As surfers began to express themselves more and more freely throughout

They would create little gimmicks that would further classify themselves as authentic and a
bizarre breed. The Brown eye became a common sight to be seen around beach cities and surf
spots, as surfers would intentionally pull down their trunks and show their backsides to fellow
surfers and the onshore crowd. This however spread to the inter cites and by 1959 1960 in beach
towns and the L.A basin, cars passing by with a youth s bare posterior framed in the side window
were a common sight (Irwin 22). Although their attitude was indeed a huge aspect in labeling the
surf community as a counter culture, it did not stop there. Their personal image changed as they
began to dress in a way unconventional to society thus creating a distinction from others. Now at
this point of the paper, we need to look at another view of the surf counter culture in order to
examine both sides of its complexity. Kristin Lawler believes that the thriving capitalism that came
post WWII had a huge effect on the growth and direction in which the surfing counter culture took
place. The counter culture of the 1960s was welcomed by capitalist, who had already been getting
pretty hip and countercultural themselves (Lawler 6). With the surfing community identified as
rebels to surrounding society, capitalism saw a need to supply these groups of radical individualists
with products that were suitable to their lifestyle. She states

Diabetes Of Diabetes Mellitus ( Dm )
Introduction:
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by high blood sugar levels
over an extended period of time. With symptoms including increased urination, thirst, and hunger,
diabetes is mainly due to loss of insulin production in the pancreas or lack of response to insulin
produced. As of 2015, nearly 415 million people worldwide have diabetes with the three main
types being Type 1, Type 2, and gestational. 90% of all diabetes cases are Type 2 (T2D) which is
characterized by insulin resistance, high blood sugar, and lack of insulin. Also known as noninsulin
dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), this disease is primary caused by obesity and lack of
exercise in genetically predisposed people and affects in nearly 29 million people in the US alone,
making it the 7th leading cause of death in the country (American Diabetes Association 2016).
The goal of a diabetes treatment plan is lowering HbA1c to below 7.0%, maintaining good glycemic
control. Glycated hemoglobin or HbA1c is a blood sugar test that reflects the average plasma
glucose concentration over the past three months. The first and best course of treatment is always
lifestyle changes that includes exercise, diet modification, and weight control. Unfortunately, when
this management plan fails or is insufficient, the next option is to take medications to lower HbA1c.
Five non insulin pharmacological options are available. First, biguanides in the form of metformin

Romanticism In Coleridge s The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
Coleridge had been a neighbor, friend and collaborator of Wordsworth and their partnership
remained fruitful for the growth of English literature. Their publication of Preface to Lyrical
Ballads heralded the birth of Romanticism. Coleridge along with Wordsworth, librated 18th
century s poetry from the strict shackles and put along the road to new freedom and achievement.
Compared to Wordsworth, Coleridge was subtle and comprehensive, more gifted with poetic
sensibilities, but he was indolent and dreamy and liked to lay on the floating lotus like Lord
Vishnu and wake up a while only to sleep again for ages. Coleridge s The Rime of The Ancient
Marinerhas been founded on a dream of his friend Cruickshank, who fancied, he has been a
skeleton ship with figures in it. It was Wordsworth, who suggested Coleridge the killing of the
Albatross, the revenge of spirits and the stillness of the ship and consequently his sailors dying of
thirst. Coleridge blended natural with supernaturaland gave a romantic touch to his poetry. What is
the supernatural? Through the ages this phenomenon cannot be explained by the known laws of
nature. If these supernatural elements lead to the happiness of man they are consider being
benevolent, but If they cause suffering and misery they are called evil spirits. Literature has

he keeps his supernatural to a suggestive

Tissue Engineering Scaffold
Preliminary Data 3: Tissue engineering scaffolds comprised of decellularized myocardial
extracellular matrix effectively emulate the natural cardiac environment. In order to best
reconstruct the damaged tissue of a heart following myocardial infarction, the chemical and
biological cues that dictate cell recruitment and differentiation in the native tissues are required.
Each human tissue contains its own specific combination of proteins and proteoglycans within the
ECM to facilitate this process, so it serves that scaffold material obtained from the heartwould best
serve to reconstruct cardiac tissue (Singelyn et al. 2009). Modifying the scaffold into an injectable

To prepare the injectable ECM hydrogel, ventricular porcine myocardium will be decellularized
with SDS and processed into an injectable solution through lyophilization and partial pepsin
digestion (Singelyn et al. 2009; Singelyn et al. 2012). Final solubilized myocardial matrix will
be brought to pH 8 and kept on ice until gelation. Fluorinated PCL beads will be fabricated by
mixing a liquid PCL solution with 0.14 M pentadecafluorooctanoyl chloride. After mixing at low
speed for 24 hours at room temperature, the solution will be dialyzed, lyophilized, and exposed

Women In the Iliad
The role of women in the Iliad is a subject that remains open to debate. Lefkowitz, in her article
The Heroic Women of Greek Epic, argues that without the role of women in the Iliad the story
would not have occurred (504 ).
Lefkowitz points out that the Iliad opens with a description of a plague that was caused as the
result of the capture of Chrysies by Agamemnon (504). Chryseis is the daughter of a priest named
Chryses. Chryses wants his daughter back, so he offers a ransom to Agamemnon to try to get him
to return his daughter. Agamemnon doesn t accept the ransom, so Chyrses prays to Apollo to help
him. Upon Chyrses s prayer, Apollo sends a plague on the Greeks. Once the plague is... Show more

Murphy states that, these women do not provoke action on frivolous pretexts nor yet on behalf of
the tribe or nation, for there is very little sense of nation in Old Icelandic literature (111).
Murphy begins his article discussing what a taunter does. He states that taunters, . ...fulfill a
special need in such societies, namely to probe the qualifications of an unknown `hero , or to
provoke the known hero into the kind of heroic act that society needs at a given time (105). He
uses Aeneas as an example of an official taunter in the Iliad.
Murphy then goes on to discuss the role of women in the Iliad. Murphy states that, Like the official
taunters they do not themselves participate physically in the frequently savage fighting and feuding
of the sagas which they often cause in a very direct and deliberate way by goading their men into
curses of action sometimes very much against those men s good judgment and mutual friendship
(111).
Murphy then goes on to discuss another subject; he does not go into depth about which character
may have played this role of an unofficial taunter. By interpretation one may infer that he is
referring to all the women in the Iliad. Let s look at Briseis for an example. Briseis played the role of
an unofficial taunter because she was the underlying reason for the feud between Agamemnon and
Achilles. There wasn t much information given about Briseis in the

The Role Of Framing In News Media
Framing is something that has been for hundreds of years. This is the way in which certain
topics and issues are talked about to try to influence the way we think about an issue. This type
of framing is seen on news media every day. Different types of news media may report on issues
in different way depending on what the issue is. The framing can be really subtle with the use of
different words that can portray two completely different meanings. The issue I will be talking
about is immigration and how immigrants are reported in contrasting type of media. Immigration
over the last years has become an increasing talking point in politics today. The left and right have
contrasting ideas on what should be done about illegal immigration. News media... Show more

Right leaning sources, like Bill O Reilly, Fox News and many republican politicians, often refer to
unlawful immigrants as illegal. This type of frame has a negative connotation for immigrants. An
immigrant may be seen as more of a criminal. It s interesting to note that this type of usage of the
word is unique to immigration. Drivers that violate the law are never called illegal drivers . This
type of frame makes the issue seem more of a cut and dry issue of illegal and legal. Immigration
this way becomes a black and white issue. So if one is called an illegal immigrant then he must be
a criminal. The expression invites for the easy use of the word criminal. Many articles that use this
word also seem to tend to use the word criminal. The word criminal then has an even stronger
negative connotation than illegal. The connection between those two words become even stronger
when illegal is used as a noun. The noun illegals is only used for immigrants and not any other
crime. The connection, thus may be stronger. When it s used as noun the term makes it more of an
attack on the person rather than the actions of

The Value Of Life
What is it about human life that makes it valuable? Some people believe that life is valuable
even before birth. Before we are given a name or our gender has been identified, we are valued.
As children, we are taught that we are valuable and that life is valuable. However, what makes
human life valuable? The answer to this question may come from an analysis of the lives of two
people; a fictional character and a real life person, and a comparison to my own personal belief
about the valueof life. Human life is valuable because of our capacity to learn and grow. From our
mistakes to our strengths, we are all valuable.

instance, the ability to speak and laugh. Jones says, The doctors told him they were going to give
him back his ability to eat, drink, and talk. But the doctors were wrong, weren t they? On some

A Memoir Of The Senses By Isabel Allende
If you like cooking, food, sex and humor then you will most definitely enjoy The Epicure s
Lament by Kate Christianson and Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses by Isabel Allende. I

the Senses. Here s my breakdown of both books and how they differ and how they are similar. To
start off both authors are women. Although after reading both novels, both authors don t seem
very similar to me. Christianson comes off to me as more edgy and loose. And although her books
extremely sexual, I think Allende s is older, maybe middle age. The reason I think that is when I
read this bookI picture her as an older cougar who knows just what she wants. I like Christianson
better. She reminds me of myself and I think she would be a lot of fun to hang out with. To be fair
though I ve only read just these two books by the authors. I do plan to read more of Christianson s
work though.

As Christmas break approached, the team faced what was going to be our biggest challenge of
all. Due to his new job, our coach now took the title of assistant and we were given a new head
coach. The coaches were, and are, good friends, but have totally different coaching styles. The
first was laid back and carefree with a great sense of humor, which made him well liked by
everyone he coached. The new coach had a reputation for being arrogant, strict, and having a no
tolerance policy when it comes to joking around. Because of this perspective some girls held of
our new coach, many were upset with the change. After we attended a tournament over the break,
however, the girls realized that they had been wrong about the coach and he was just what we
needed to help us achieve our goal.
Unfortunately we still had tension among players. It even got as far as one player taking the ball
from another on the field in the middle of the game. As the season progressed, this problem
practically solved itself as we bonded at practices, pre game get togethers, and voluntarily spending
time together on weekends. We grew from barely tolerating each other to being such a tight knit
group that even schoolmates noticed.
With the Christmas tournament aside, we entered the post season without a loss. We had a plan for
each playoff game from districts to regional. We never deviated from the plan, keeping our eye on

Christian Beliefs Of The World
Charlemagne, was a man raised on Christian beliefs who spent his life waging war on those who
were not Christian. Conquered peoples were forced to accept Christianity as their fate or face exile
and/or death. This manner of conversion to Christian beliefs completely goes against the teachings
of his beloved bible. The hypocrisy of these acts bring one to question his true motivations. Was he

expand his territories using the support of the pope and the Papal States claiming protector?

The Effect Of Different Amounts Of Vinegar
Introduction + Research Question
The goal of this lab was to determine the effects of different amounts of Vinegar on the
temperature in the reaction NaHCO3 + HC2H3O2 в†’ NaC2H3O2 + H2O + CO2.
My lab partner and I researched and experimented with the temperature after this reaction because
we were intrigued by the solution seeming colder in the demonstration during class. We wondered
why and how a reaction can yield decreasing temperatures. We also wondered how vinegar would
affect the temperature change caused by the reaction. This lead to our experiment to investigate the
relationship between the amount of vinegar in the reaction and the temperature of the solution 40s
after the reaction commences.
The Hypothesis
If the amount of vinegar is increased then the temperature of the solution will drop until it stabilizes
at a certain point. The dependent variable in this experiment (the temperature) will stay the exact
same without any vinegar being added because of the lack of reaction. If more vinegar is added I
believe the temperature will continue to get colder until a certain point where the temperature will
stabilize.
Theory/ Background Information/Abstract.
I believe my hypothesis will be true because from my research I have found that the reaction
between baking soda and vinegar is an endothermic reaction. Endothermic reactions are reactions
that require heat to be initiated. This need for heat in turn causes a drop in temperature once the
reaction occurs because the

Crowd Sourcing Paper
Every organization works for its ultimate goal of attaining profit and to enjoying a good name in the
society. Organizational success depends upon how the organization manages the information and
process for attaining the target. For that the organization should have its own strategies and
technologies for adequate knowledge management. Due to the drastic changes which has happened
in our organizational working climate, career management intervention has to be given due
importance for the performance of the workers. Human resource is considered as the most
important asset of an organization but it is a true fact that no human being is complete. Solving of
problems happens through sharing of experiences and knowledge among the individuals. However,

The process of obtaining information by enlisting the services of a large number of people, either
paid or unpaid, typically through the Internet is known as crowd sourcing. The term crowdsourcing
was coined in Jeff Howe and Mark Robinson (2006) ,which describes how businesses were using
the Internet to outsource the work to a large and heterogenous undefined general public usuall in
the form of an open call . The emergence and popularity of the crowdsourcing phenomenon can be
largely attributed to the rise of the Web 2.0 (FГјller, Bilgram, Koch Rapp, 2013) Crowd sourcing is
based on the concept of collective intelligence: Selzer Mahmoudi (2006 ) told that under the right
circumstances, groups are remarkably intelligent, and are often smarter than the smartest people in
them. Crowd sourcing gives access to ideas, innovations and information(Aitamurto et al., 2011;
EstellГ©s Arolas GonzГЎlez LadrГіn de Guevara, 2012; Sloane, 2011). So crowd sourcing is
worthwhile for the success of any type of organization without any distinction between profit

Yellow Shawl Research Paper
Girl in the Yellow Shawl When I wake up, the first thing I feel is an aching pain in my feet. The
pain moves on to my stomach, filling my belly with an unpleasantly hollow sensation. Then the
ache proceeds to my head, pounding against the back of my skull. Pain is not an unusual or
foreign sensation to me; we two are as familiar as a pair of twins in the womb. As I grow more
aware, the ache of my body becomes more persistent. My feet are mostly numb except for the
occasional sting of the cold snow on my bare toes. I pull myself up from the frozen ground and
wrap my tattered, yellow shawl closer to my frigid body. I sigh as I examine the frayed ends and
the disgusting mustard color the fabric has assumed. I ought to get a new one, but I barely have
enough money for food, much less a nice shawl. This winter has been a particularly bad one. I am
always hungry, always searching for something more satisfying. The city has been cold... Show

I carefully push my way through the crowd until I reach the source of the music. Behind a thick
pane of glass into an electronics shop, I can see an old, boxy television. The song comes to a
dramatic end as a big news logo scrolls across the screen. I put my palms to the frigid glass and
lean closer, hoping to see through the dingy pane just a little better. A man is on the screen now,
well dressed with slicked back hair and a clean business suit. He holds a stack of papers in his
hands, occasionally tapping them against the desk or looking down so he can read his news
reports. My interest in the man quickly wanes. I do not care much for the weather report (cold),
the status of the local government (poor), or updates on the homelessness rates in the city (high). I
am starting to turn away from the dirty window pane and walk towards a street corner that is good
for begging when the newscaster s face changes abruptly. Startled, I lean in even

Water And Its Effects On Human Activities
Perhaps water is one of the most important elements for both evolution purposes and sustenance of
life on earth. On the other hand, water sustains environment and gives support to the livelihood. It
is good to note that availability of fresh water plays a big role in improving the quality of human
life and overall progress of mankind in various spheres of life that are significantly dependent on it.
In addition, water promotes equality between nations and also between the rich and poor within the
same country. Access to fresh water improves humanbehaviour which also involves various ways
on which we adopt to the environment. Water that is of good quality is impacted by human
activities which in turn lead to good health implication, economic growth, and poverty alleviation
and in all aspects development. However, there has been high increase in competition for water
day after another due to collapsing of major ecological systems and catchment areas, depletion of
ground water areas and diminishing river flows. Since the time of immemorial water has been a
social fabric in various social systems including in religious ceremonies.

Transmitting System Theory to Human Resource Management
Essay on Transmitting social system theory to human resource management Human resource
management can be considered as the most complex field of an organisation. Assuming that this
statement is true one could raise the question why human resource management is more diverse
than the other fields in an organisation as finance or sales. The answer will be always the same. It
is because of the individual, playing a major role within everyday s HR work environment. This
essay discusses what impact a less individual concentrated approach would have on human resource
management. This does not mean that the importance of the individual will be devalued. The essay
reflects on the influences of a systemic point of view on organisations... Show more content on

474; Sciortino, 2006, A comment on Talcott Parsons at Brown University, p. 66). The main focus of
this essay shall be set on the German sociologist Niklas Luhmann (1927 1998) who developed an
ambitious as well as general theory of society and social systems. This theory understands social
systems as recursive networks of communication and observation (Fuchs, 1999, p. 117). Luhmann
considers organisations as autopoietically closed systems, which consist of communication or
decisions (e.g. decisions, actions). The social system theory for example regards the base of an
organisation as not open to the environment, whereas the rest of the system depends on the
environmental influences. Autopoietically closed means that they reproduce the elements they
consist of out of the element they consist of. These systems are also called a self referential system,
which basically means that there are systems, which have the ability to create a relation with itself
and differentiate this relationship towards its environment. Self referential systems are able to
differentiate between relations happening inside the system and outside the system, which creates
the awareness for the self referential system to

The Internment Of Japanese Americans
Shortly after the first bombs were dropped on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941, the
American people s fear of the Japanese grew dramatically, especially for those Japanese living in
America. Almost every Japanese American was seen as a threat to the country. On February 19th,
1942, Executive Order 9066 was issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, authorizing the
relocation of Japanese Americans to camps further inland. Over 175,000 Japanese Americans were
affected in some way by the order, even though more than 70,000 of them were born in the United
States and were American citizens. The common perspective of the American people was shown
through their use of the expression A Jap s a Jap, virtually destroying the thought that any... Show

Out of all ten internment camps in America, Manzanar is the most well known. The harshness of
this camp lead to constant news stories and televised programs displaying events that occurred
there such as shootings, strikes, and a constant feeling of uneasiness and unrest throughout the
community. There was no such thing as privacy in Manzanar; a luxury taken for granted in
today s society was unknown to those who had to survive in Manzanar. All men and women
shared toilets as well as showers and lived in barracks with 200 400 other people in them. Each
room had about four people and was furnished with nothing but an oil stove, light bulb, cots,
blankets, and mattresses filled with straw. The living conditions were inhumane, with no privacy
shacks that were so poorly constructed they could barely hold together. Because it was located in
the desert, Manzanar was hot during the day and freezing at night. In order to receive food,
prisoners had to wait in long lines in front of the mess hall and were constantly sick from eating
spoiled food. Workers in Manzanar were paid little to nothing per month depending on their skill
set and jobs in the camp. Professional workers were paid about $19 per month,

Handling Of Bags By Airlines Essay
Confirm your luggage and passenger information in the kiosk. Upon confirmation, the kiosk then
dispenses destination tag. Attach that luggage destination tag to each luggage. Together with the
tags, the kiosk will also dispense the boarding pass for the passenger. Step 4
Place the luggage where directed or indicated. For some airlines and in some airports, the
passengers may have to carry their luggage for a short distance up to the luggage collection area.
Whereas, there are some airlines that have stationed personnel at each kiosk to take the passengers
luggage once one complete the check in procedure (James).
The Baggage Delay Problem
Handling of bags by airlines remains a challenging aspect in the baggage handling process and this
is bound to be an issue facing Emirates. The expanding air traffic increases the stress on the airline s
bag operations, delays and consequent unexpected alterations to schedules. These can negatively
affect the airline as a whole. In a similar manner to other businesses, Emirates encounters its own
set of challenges in its operations. One of the main problems relates to the delays that passengers
experience when dropping their baggage at check in counters. Normally, this can be attributed to
the long processes and queues that arise in printing of tags and sorting out the baggage. Often, the
sorting of the bags and printing of tags that take place at the check in counter ends up creating long
queues and unnecessary delays. The delays that

  • 2. Benefits Of College Credit In College Earning college credit in high school sounds like a dream for many students, and can be extremely beneficial, but there are various downfalls. Throughout the United States there are many programs that offer students opportunities to obtain college credits. The four most popular are Advanced Placement(AP), International Baccalaureate(IB), Collegein the School (CIS), and Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO). Advanced Placement(AP) offers rigorous, college level classes that gives students an opportunity to gain skills that colleges recognize. To earn college credits, students must take an AP exam. AP exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5. A score of 5,4, or 3 mean the student did well, and is qualified to receive college credit for that course, but anything lower than a 3 does not qualify the student for college credits. The second program I will be discussing is, The International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The IB programs mission is to, develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. ( ) The IB organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging courses and rigorous assessment. These courses encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. To obtain an IB diploma, students must receive a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Conformity Of Individuality In Henry David Twain s... A nation is only as good as the people who comprise it. In regards to the United States, tragedy permeates the nation when its citizens decide to conform to the standards imposed by the majority. As a multitude of Americans alter themselves to fit in and be accepted, their individuality floats away into the abyss. Nevertheless, the process of conforming may not always be such a bad thing. Conforming gives Americans the ability to connect to species that holds immense value. A species greater than anything they could have ever became while isolated. Now, although humans unconsciously conform to the standards of others, this process of conforming is detrimental to all Americans as it diminishes a person s self identityalong with their true life s purpose. Every standard and regulation an American abides by is influenced by their fellow citizens. The basic human nature of a person propels them to conform to the lifestyle of others. This concept is present within Henry David Thoreaus Civil Disobedience in which he explains that even the most successfully men can be imposed on [...] for their own advantage. Thoreau implies that when a person is exposed to others of high authority or legitimacy, they develop the desire to act like and feel acceptance from said persons. As Mark Twainillustrates in his essay Corn pone Opinions , people base their standards of ideals on a matter of association and sympathy, not reasoning and examination. Thus as humans rely heavily on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to the lack of impressive presentation and theatre skills, my confidence was going lower with every opportunity to present our ideas. After the meetings I was left with the feeling of letting down myself and the entire group who have trusted me to showcase the group s achievements. While I was working for my previous company, once there was a teambuilding session in which me and fellow colleagues were divided into groups and were handed out specific tasks such as building a gingerbread house. Our team had some of the best employees in my division and I naturally expected us to win the teambuilding event. To everybody s surprise we could never got started on the activity. It was not clear then why we failed to even kick start the teambuilding activity. During this course I started to understand the reason behind our failure. It was due to lack of an able leadership. • 5. Essay about The Aspects of Multiculturalism in Canada A country built on immigration, Canada has long had a reputation of being culturally and ethnically diverse. While multiculturalism is meant to be built on equality and appreciation of different cultures, its concept has gained both support and opposition. On one hand, it allows for more assortment and the voices of minorities have a higher chance to be heard. On the other hand, loss of unity and conflicts may occur due to contrasting worldviews of the citizens. All in all, multiculturalismis a controversial policy that has both advantages and disadvantages, but has proven to be a successful strategy in Canada. Multiculturalism has many positive effects, including but not limited to freedom of religion and beliefs, increased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Negative aspects of multiculturalism are also in effect, such as incoherence within a nation, loss of national identity, and conflicts among different ethnic groups. First of all, while differences are highlighted and encouraged, they are also a cause of disjointedness among the different ethnic groups in a country because they fail to function as one nation, instead forming small communities. This often causes a lack of communication between such ethnic groups and leads to a loss of unity in a country. Furthermore, immigration and pluralism often lead to a diminishment or complete disappearance of national identity in a multicultural country. An example of this is Canada because it was created on the basis of immigration without having its own distinct culture from the beginning, but choosing to include different cultures instead to become what is known today as a multicultural society. While generally it is seen in a positive light, it often raises concern that the country s identity may disappear altogether in the future. Finally, intense pluralism is oftentimes a reason for riots and conflicts, indirectly related to immigrants or ethnicity. For example, in France tension among ethnic groups and riots have happened in the past because of the conditions of the communities where the original immigrants settled in, combining high unemployment rates and discrimination. • 8. A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley In the world of sex, drugs, and baby cloning you are going to be in many situations where you feel like the world we live in should be different. In the story Brave New World, they had sex with multiple partners along with a very bad use of drugs. It is weird that Aldous Huxley wrote this book in 1931 about the world he was living in during that time and how it is similar to the world we live in today. Nowadays, drugs are still being used and people are still engaging in sexual encounters with multiple partners. Things are no different than they use to be. People still to this day are using drugs and committing adultery as if there aren t any diseases out there. In the story they introduced a drug named Soma. This particular drug was the narcotic they used to escape the world they lived in. Aldous Huxley did not like being in London because he felt the people there were basically all the same. Aldous Huxley was characterized by people as being very weird to people because he didn t like to do the things they did. He became so weird to people that the press and news reporters became interested in talking to him in order to find out more about him. I have a connection with this particular story because the world I m living in today is based on the same things he described. Sex is the main thing teenagers care about nowadays. • 11. Was The American Revolution Inevitable Dbq Was the American Revolution inevitable? According to John Adams in 1818, the desire for independence was already in the hearts of Americans long before war broke out in 1775. This was untrue for many loyalists living in the colonies in 1775. However, there was simply nothing the mother country could do to stop her colonies from wanting to move on from its natural state of identity in order to grow into a unique and independent country. To begin with, Richard Bland in his 1766 An Inquiry Into the Rights of the British Colonies believed that America should be independent as to their internal government, of the original Kingdom, but united with her, as to their external policy... The Stamp Act required colonists to purchase stamped paper for every legal document, license, and newspaper and imposed special stamped duties on packages of playing cards and dice. All who disobeyed the Act were to be tried in the vice admiralty courts. By May of 1765, Boston shopkeepers, artisans, and laborers united in a resistance group called Sons of Liberty. By the end of the summer, the Sons of Liberty harassed customs workers, stamp agents, and royal governors faced mob threats and hence stamp agents resigned all over. The Act was to become effective on November 1st, 1765, but colonial protests prevented stamped paper from being sold. In the month of October, 1765, delegates from nine colonies met in NYC. Congress issued a Declaration of Rights and Grievances: it stated that Parliament lacked power to impose taxes on the colonies because they were not represented in Parliament. This was the first time in which colonies began to set aside their differences and unite as one. Eventually, the Act was repealed and in 1766, Parliament issued the Declaratory Act: it addressed Parliament s full right to make laws in all cases whatsoever . The Tea Act was made in 1773 and it granted the East India Company the right to sell directly to the colonies, free of taxes, this would cut colonial merchants out of the tea trade because the company would sell for less. • 13. Differences Between The Northern Colonies And Southern... Life in the North American colonies was great at one point. At first we liked having protection and assistance from the British. After a while, we Patriots yearned for more freedom. The British had too many rules and controlled a lot of aspects of our lives, including the trading of goods. To add, even though we were across the pond, they were telling us where to live. Us Patriots were forced to provide housing to the British soldiers. Although we appreciated the help, we did not want them taking over our new found land. The British provided sources of entertainment and ways to see information like newspapers and other forms of entertainment, but charged us a hefty amount. Many of us wanted to complain but we were not allowed to have a seat on the British Parliament. Without this, we have no way of communicating our problems. How could the British tax us without having someone to represent us? We were being taxed without representation and we were tired of it! The British had taken off all the taxes except tea, and that was not enough. With no fair ruling, we took matters into our own hands and dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor. Things were different in Southern colonies compared to the Northern colonies. The reason for settlement in the North was to have freedom of religion. In the South, people wanted financial gain stemming from agriculture. Though they are known for cotton, tobacco was the main staple crop of the South. Although the North colonies also wanted ... Porters Five Forces Threat of New Entrants The Seafood Packaging Industry has a few barriers to entry that work in its favor. These barriers include access to distribution channels and government policies. To sell products members of the industry need access to end users that will buy the product. This access is gained by selling to distributors such as supermarkets, grocery stores, and restaurants. Gaining access to these distributors is a difficult task. Ideally companies work through a food broker that can arrange a distribution agreement, but for smaller companies like Azalea access to food brokers is difficult. For a company to come into the market with such a large volume of sales that they could easily attract food brokers they would need a large capital base which then provides an additional barrier. ... Catechol Oxidase Enzyme Lab The Influence of pH and Temperature on Enzyme Activity Madeline Foy Biology 140 Lab Professor Himes April 12, 2016 Abstract In order to see the effects of pH and temperature on the enzymatic reaction of catechol oxidase when separated from potato tissue. We used a spectrophotometer to measure how much blue light energy is absorbed by benzoquinone. Benzoquinone is a product of catechol when it has been oxidized by different temperatures and pHs. We hypothesized that the benzoquinone absorbance rate would be faster when the pH added to the cuvettes were greater than the pH of the potato tissue. The pH of the potato tissue was pH 6. Our hypothesis states that the benzoquinone absorbance rate would be faster when the pH added to the cuvettes were greater than the pH of the potato tissue. At pH 7, reaction rates were the fastest, but not at pH 10 like we predicted. We predicted that pH 4 would have the slowest to no reaction rate, but it was faster than pH 10 because the potato tissue has a pH 6 and the pH 4 was closest to the pH of the potato tissue. A possible reason our hypothesis was only partially supported was because of possible cross contamination when preparing the cuvettes by not using different disposable pipets for each pH solution, or the test tubes could have been labeled wrong which caused them to be mixed up. In future experiments, we should look at the effects of pHs closer to the pH of the potato tissue because we can infer that closer pHs to the pH of potato tissue will have a faster reaction rate causing the potatoes to turn brown ... Few argue the fact that mothers have been the individuals to love and nurture children. But as the traditional families continued to change and evolve, fathers have been forced to accept the multiple roles required to raise the children alone. Dads have become moms in a sense. As modern fathers have become adequate mothers in the single parent family unit, the notion that a mother is the only nurturing individual in the family is simply not true now. When we become aware that our actions contradict our attitudes, we tend to revise our attitudes. This statement fits Festinger s cognitive dissonance theory that asserts that we act to reduce discomfort or dissonance, an unpleasant tension, we experience when two of our thoughts or cognitions are inconsistent. The participants subjected to the highest levels of dissonance, through a high salience and nonsupport condition, distanced themselves from the group as the second hypothesis predicted. Overall, the main point of this research was to examine the role of social support in the arousal and reduction of cognitive dissonance. The researchers conducted this experiment in an effort to augment rather than change current understanding of the dissonance phenomena; however, this theory does not expand the current understanding of dissonance because it does not provide concrete, reliable evidence of how group support can reduce cognitive dissonance. Also the researchers did not test a random or a representative sample and inferred dissonance solely from surveys that measured attitude change. The fact that surveys were used as the main method to ascertain the self reported attitudes or behaviors of people weakens the theory s reliability and validity. The wording and order of the questions could have had a major affect on how the subjects responded and possibly skewed the researcher s central data. Additionally, the researchers did not use a direct method to detect dissonance; instead, they merely inferred the presence of dissonance exclusively from surveys ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With symptoms including increased urination, thirst, and hunger, diabetes is mainly due to loss of insulin production in the pancreas or lack of response to insulin produced. As of 2015, nearly 415 million people worldwide have diabetes with the three main types being Type 1, Type 2, and gestational. 90% of all diabetes cases are Type 2 (T2D) which is characterized by insulin resistance, high blood sugar, and lack of insulin. Also known as noninsulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), this disease is primary caused by obesity and lack of exercise in genetically predisposed people and affects in nearly 29 million people in the US alone, making it the 7th leading cause of death in the country (American Diabetes Association 2016). The goal of a diabetes treatment plan is lowering HbA1c to below 7.0%, maintaining good glycemic control. Glycated hemoglobin or HbA1c is a blood sugar test that reflects the average plasma glucose concentration over the past three months. The first and best course of treatment is always lifestyle changes that includes exercise, diet modification, and weight control. Their publication of Preface to Lyrical Ballads heralded the birth of Romanticism. Coleridge along with Wordsworth, librated 18th century s poetry from the strict shackles and put along the road to new freedom and achievement. Compared to Wordsworth, Coleridge was subtle and comprehensive, more gifted with poetic sensibilities, but he was indolent and dreamy and liked to lay on the floating lotus like Lord Vishnu and wake up a while only to sleep again for ages. The answer to this question may come from an analysis of the lives of two people; a fictional character and a real life person, and a comparison to my own personal belief about the valueof life. Human life is valuable because of our capacity to learn and grow. From our mistakes to our strengths, we are all valuable. The new coach had a reputation for being arrogant, strict, and having a no tolerance policy when it comes to joking around. Because of this perspective some girls held of our new coach, many were upset with the change. After we attended a tournament over the break, however, the girls realized that they had been wrong about the coach and he was just what we needed to help us achieve our goal. Unfortunately we still had tension among players. It even got as far as one player taking the ball from another on the field in the middle of the game. As the season progressed, this problem practically solved itself as we bonded at practices, pre game get togethers, and voluntarily spending time together on weekends. We grew from barely tolerating each other to being such a tight knit group that even schoolmates noticed. With the Christmas tournament aside, we entered the post season without a loss. We had a plan for each playoff game from districts to regional. We never deviated from the plan, keeping our eye on the target ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dr. Kaner also has a lot of passion for the subject, which makes the class very enjoyable because we see his enthusiasm and are willing to learn. 3. What are your goals for the next two years after you graduate? (1/4 page max.) I am taking one extra year of undergraduate to finish my courses and spend more time in the lab. Since I did start my college career with a bad GPA, I am taking the extra time to recover. But over the years my GPA dramatically increase as well as my interest for my major. I will also be taking this time to apply to graduate school. I am planning on applying to PhD programs in material science, nanotechnology, or organic chemistry. For my PhD thesis I want to explore the applications of different carbon based molecules for nanotechnology or material science. Depending on my experience in the Dr. Hawker group, I will decide if I want to work with polymers or small molecules. 4. What are your long ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Christian Beliefs Of The World Charlemagne, was a man raised on Christian beliefs who spent his life waging war on those who were not Christian. Conquered peoples were forced to accept Christianity as their fate or face exile and/or death. This manner of conversion to Christian beliefs completely goes against the teachings of his beloved bible. The hypocrisy of these acts bring one to question his true motivations. Was he really trying to spread Christianityor was he simply using his Christian crusade as a means to expand his territories using the support of the pope and the Papal States claiming protector? Charlemagne Charlemagne, Charles the Great, Carlos Magnus, Karl der Grosse, the eldest son of Pepin III, was born April 2, 0742 probably in Aachen, Austrasia (now Germany) (Winston, 2015). He was raised in an environment of change from the Franks primarily pagan worship lifestyle to one of Christian beliefs with strong family ties to the popes and missionaries of the times. His great grandfather Clovis, had converted to Christianity under the influence of his Christian wife, and his reign began the family s relationship with the Christian Church (Winston, 2015). Primarily educated by his mother and the monks of Saint Denis in his youth, he spent a great deal of his adult life studying grammar, astronomy, music and the bible (Graves, 2016). • 42. The Effect Of Different Amounts Of Vinegar Introduction + Research Question The goal of this lab was to determine the effects of different amounts of Vinegar on the temperature in the reaction NaHCO3 + HC2H3O2 в†’ NaC2H3O2 + H2O + CO2. My lab partner and I researched and experimented with the temperature after this reaction because we were intrigued by the solution seeming colder in the demonstration during class. We wondered why and how a reaction can yield decreasing temperatures. We also wondered how vinegar would affect the temperature change caused by the reaction. This lead to our experiment to investigate the relationship between the amount of vinegar in the reaction and the temperature of the solution 40s after the reaction commences. The Hypothesis If the amount of vinegar is increased then the temperature of the solution will drop until it stabilizes at a certain point. The dependent variable in this experiment (the temperature) will stay the exact same without any vinegar being added because of the lack of reaction. If more vinegar is added I believe the temperature will continue to get colder until a certain point where the temperature will stabilize. Theory/ Background Information/Abstract. I believe my hypothesis will be true because from my research I have found that the reaction between baking soda and vinegar is an endothermic reaction. Endothermic reactions are reactions that require heat to be initiated. This need for heat in turn causes a drop in temperature once the reaction occurs because the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The process of obtaining information by enlisting the services of a large number of people, either paid or unpaid, typically through the Internet is known as crowd sourcing. The term crowdsourcing was coined in Jeff Howe and Mark Robinson (2006) ,which describes how businesses were using the Internet to outsource the work to a large and heterogenous undefined general public usuall in the form of an open call . The emergence and popularity of the crowdsourcing phenomenon can be largely attributed to the rise of the Web 2.0 (FГјller, Bilgram, Koch Rapp, 2013) Crowd sourcing is based on the concept of collective intelligence: Selzer Mahmoudi (2006 ) told that under the right circumstances, groups are remarkably intelligent, and are often smarter than the smartest people in them. Crowd sourcing gives access to ideas, innovations and information(Aitamurto et al., 2011; EstellГ©s Arolas GonzГЎlez LadrГіn de Guevara, 2012; Sloane, 2011). The pain moves on to my stomach, filling my belly with an unpleasantly hollow sensation. Then the ache proceeds to my head, pounding against the back of my skull. Pain is not an unusual or foreign sensation to me; we two are as familiar as a pair of twins in the womb. As I grow more aware, the ache of my body becomes more persistent. My feet are mostly numb except for the occasional sting of the cold snow on my bare toes. I pull myself up from the frozen ground and wrap my tattered, yellow shawl closer to my frigid body. Transmitting System Theory to Human Resource Management Essay on Transmitting social system theory to human resource management Human resource management can be considered as the most complex field of an organisation. Assuming that this statement is true one could raise the question why human resource management is more diverse than the other fields in an organisation as finance or sales. The answer will be always the same. It is because of the individual, playing a major role within everyday s HR work environment. This essay discusses what impact a less individual concentrated approach would have on human resource management. This does not mean that the importance of the individual will be devalued. The main focus of this essay shall be set on the German sociologist Niklas Luhmann (1927 1998) who developed an ambitious as well as general theory of society and social systems. This theory understands social systems as recursive networks of communication and observation (Fuchs, 1999, p. 117). Luhmann considers organisations as autopoietically closed systems, which consist of communication or decisions (e.g. decisions, actions). The social system theory for example regards the base of an organisation as not open to the environment, whereas the rest of the system depends on the environmental influences. Autopoietically closed means that they reproduce the elements they consist of out of the element they consist of. These systems are also called a self referential system, which basically means that there are systems, which have the ability to create a relation with itself and differentiate this relationship towards its environment. Self referential systems are able to differentiate between relations happening inside the system and outside the system, which creates the awareness for the self referential system to ... The harshness of this camp lead to constant news stories and televised programs displaying events that occurred there such as shootings, strikes, and a constant feeling of uneasiness and unrest throughout the community. There was no such thing as privacy in Manzanar; a luxury taken for granted in today s society was unknown to those who had to survive in Manzanar. All men and women shared toilets as well as showers and lived in barracks with 200 400 other people in them. Each room had about four people and was furnished with nothing but an oil stove, light bulb, cots, blankets, and mattresses filled with straw. The living conditions were inhumane, with no privacy shacks that were so poorly constructed they could barely hold together. Because it was located in the desert, Manzanar was hot during the day and freezing at night. In order to receive food, prisoners had to wait in long lines in front of the mess hall and were constantly sick from eating spoiled food. Attach that luggage destination tag to each luggage. Together with the tags, the kiosk will also dispense the boarding pass for the passenger. Step 4 Place the luggage where directed or indicated. For some airlines and in some airports, the passengers may have to carry their luggage for a short distance up to the luggage collection area. Whereas, there are some airlines that have stationed personnel at each kiosk to take the passengers luggage once one complete the check in procedure (James). The Baggage Delay Problem Handling of bags by airlines remains a challenging aspect in the baggage handling process and this is bound to be an issue facing Emirates. The expanding air traffic increases the stress on the airline s bag operations, delays and consequent unexpected alterations to schedules. These can negatively affect the airline as a whole. In a similar manner to other businesses, Emirates encounters its own set of challenges in its operations. One of the main problems relates to the delays that passengers experience when dropping their baggage at check in counters. Normally, this can be attributed to the long processes and queues that arise in printing of tags and sorting out the baggage. Often, the sorting of the bags and printing of tags that take place at the check in counter ends up creating long queues and unnecessary delays. The delays that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
