The Education System Of The United States Essay
Purpose of Education
As a developed nation, the United States owes its success to the education system that has evolved
with our nation. While at times conflict consumes our nation, tragedy occurs, and hardships arise
we can rest assured that our elected officials and citizens are making intelligent decisions that
uphold our values, rights, and liberty. These leaders have been elected to operate our democratic
society which is propelled forward by education. Education serves as the single most important
factor of our society s framework.
How our Education System Developed and Why
Thomas Jefferson referred to education as a diffusion of knowledge in the bill he proposed to the
Virginia legislature in 1779 (Jefferson, 1779, p.20). He meant that by diffusing the knowledge
amongst the people they will be able to protect the values, liberties, and rights that had been
granted to them. Jefferson s ideas were derived from the English education system. His bill did not
pass Virginia s legislature, but it shows us Thomas Jefferson s views about education, and because
of his efforts it was not long until there was a national push for education from the north, starting
with the Boston schools.
The Common School Movement
The common school movement was based on the idea that all people are guaranteed the right to an
education. There were two prominent voices driving the common school movement, Catherine
Beecher, and Horace Mann. Horace Mann believed that education was essential to

The Catholic Church Should Accept That Gay Marriage
The Catholic Church should accept that gay marriage is morally acceptable and doesn t
contradict their beliefs. Gay marriage has been a topic of controversy ever since the 1970 s. May
of 1970 to be exact. Around This time two men named Richard John Jack Baker and James
Michael McConnell in Minnesota applied to Hennepin County District Court clerk Gerald Nelson
for a marriagelicense. They were denied because they both were men. This issue of two people
of the same sex getting married is still a topic of debate to a lot of people even after the U.S.
Supreme court made gay marriage legal in all 50 states in 20151. The Catholic Church teaches to
treat homosexuals with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. That every act of hate, violence, and
persecution toward them is condemned. The Church doesn t view homosexuals no poorly than
they do everyone else but it is their views on marriage that are in question. They believe that all
sexual activity outside of marriage as a sin and an immoral act. So, if we restrict marriage from
homosexuals then if they are in a sexual relationship with another they are in turn an immoral
person. Therefore, the Catholic Church should view gay marriage the same as heterosexual
marriage, with reverence and sanctity. Marriage, also known as the matrimonial covenant, is to
establish a partnership between a man and a woman for the entirety of their lives and which is
ordered by its nature to the good of the spouses and the procreation

Standard 4 Medication Safety Case Study
The standard from the National Safety and Quality Health Service (2012) that I believe has the
highest risk associated for a graduate nurse is Standard 4 Medication Safety (Bain). If best practice
outlined in this standard is not abided by, then medication errors occur and may lead to poor
outcomes for patients. These outcomes include longer hospitalisations, increased costs and death
(Cheragi et al., 2014).
Medication errors are preventable and cause great harm to the patients and their families. Every
year in Australian hospitals, medication errors occur as nurses do not follow the 9 rights of
medication administration. The 9 rights are right patient, drug, route, time, documentation,
response, action and form (Fossum et al., 2016). Medication errors can be caused by ... Show more

In Australian hospitals medication administration errors make up 9% or 1 in10 of all medication
administrations. These errors include wrong doses, wrong intravenous infusion rates and errors
made by prescribing doctors. Errors on discharge of patients were increasingly higher with up to 2
errors per patient related to doctors transcribing discharge medications (Roughead, Semple,
Rosenfeld, 2016).
As a graduate nurse there are strategies that I will use to ensure that Standard 4 Medication Safety
is adhered to and patient outcomes are improved. The two strategies I would use include double
checking of medication with another nurse and ensuring patient identifiers are being used.
Double checking of medications with a senior nurse is a strategy that is used to improve patient
safety by reducing medication errors. This is especially important for paediatric medication
administration. It is important that staff members both do dosage calculations separately, as this is
how errors are discovered before the medications are administered (Lan, Wang, Yu, Chen, Wu, Tang,

Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Chinua Achebe Biography
Chinua Achebe, the author of ВЁThings Fall ApartВЁ, was known for writing about the
imposition of white men on African society. Achebe was a Nigerian man who became one of the
most well known authors in the world. His works were inspired by African culture and he helped
define African literature.Chinua s most famous literary work is ВЁThings Fall ApartВЁ, but he has
many other books that he is known for, including No Longer at Ease , ВЁArrow of GodВЁ, and
ВЁA Man of the PeopleВЁ. Achebe helped to define African literature, and show the reality of
Europeans mistreatment toward Africans.
Chinua Achebe was born to Isaiah and Janet Achebe as Albert Chinualumogu Achebe in the Igbo
town of Ogidi, Nigeria on November 16, 1930. He favored the Igbo name Chinua, which was
short for Chinualumogu, instead of Albert. Achebe grew up in Ogidi until he accepted a
scholarship to study medicine at the University College of Ibadan. He decided to switch to
English literature and gave up the scholarship, though his brother John provided financial
assistance and he was able to continue. His college professors were all European, and he read
Shakespeare, Milton, Defoe, Swift, and many other renowned European authors. In 1939, one of
the books they were required to read was ВЁMister JohnsonВЁ. This book serves as a turning
point for Achebe, and inspires him to write about Nigerian life. In 1958, he published ВЁThings

Analysis Of Vega V. Sports Bar Grill
Vega Bogeda s employee was probably acting outside the scope of his employment when he posted
the video of Underwood on YouTube.
An employer is liable for the actions of his employee unless they fall outside the scope of
employment. Williams v. Community Drive In Theater, Inc., 520 P.2d 1296, [p. 1297] (Kan.
1974). To fall inside the scope, the employee s actions must (1) arise naturally from the course of
their jobs and (2) intend to further employer s interest and not done for personal reasons.
Daugherty v. Allee s Sports BarGrill, 260 S.W.3d 869, [p. 873] (Mo. Ct. App. 2008).
Three cases are relevant to understanding this rule. In Williams, the court found a drive in liable for
an employee accidentally shooting a customer. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The employee filmed Underwood within the scope of his employment, but posting was outside the
scope. The plaintiff alleges invasion of privacy and damage to reputation, but the harms of both
claims come from the act of sharing the video with others. Had the employee not shared the video,
the plaintiff probably would have no case for damage to her reputation as the events would have
stayed between the two parties. Instead, he posted the video. Posting, rather than filming, caused
the plaintiff harm.
It is clear the employee acted within the scope while filming. As a service worker who often closes
the store, an employee should have experience with difficult customers late at night. As such, the
situation fell within the normal course of his duties. The worker s main goal was not a personal
motive, but to close the store. He thought filming the plaintiff would incentive her to leave.
Posting falls outside the scope of employment for a few reasons. First, he posted the video to his
personal account for the purposes of entertaining online viewers. He also knew that Vega did not
approve of him being on YouTube during work hours, but did so anyway. Finally, Vega noted
embarrassing customers did not benefit the business, but might ease personal annoyances to the
worker, meaning the video helped the posting employee to the detriment his employer.
There are a couple of counterarguments to this interpretation. First, using Daugherty, one might

Nanosolar Case
Nanosolar, Inc. Case Solution
Case Problem
Martin Roscheisen, CEO of Nanosolar must decide on the market they are going to focus,
whether it s Europe which has feed in tariff plans with long term commitment (20 yrs) or jump
start into the nascent but high potential US market. The other problem plaguing him is the
pricing and sales strategy to be employed. A low pricing strategy is imperative for the US market
as there are many players in it, as for Europe having a reliable pricing schedule it s all about pricing
vis a vis its major competitor First Solar.

France
* France is committed to renewable energy source, with the government setting a target of 20% of
all energy source to be renewable by 2020 * There is also a stable feed in tariff (being backed by
the government for 20 yrs) of $0.42/kWh * Taking into account a 1% (CPI in year 2008) decline
year on year, we have an average tariff of $0.38/kWh * But the market size remains small, with a
meagre potential of 300MW by 2011
Italy
* It also has feed in tariff (modelled on Germany s) of $0.59 for 20 yrs and declining annually at
2% * This makes an average tariff of $0.49/kWh which is higher than the others * Moreover the
market potential is said to reach 3GW by 2016, this market is very lucrative and should definitely
be a potential target
United States Market * The major issue with the US market was the lack of a national
framework for feed in tariff, but many states has recently come up with their own policy *
Florida came up with a feed in tariff plan of $0.32/kWh for 20 yrs, but the most significant
incentive for the manufacturers is the 30% tax credit given by the government * This along with
other federal support (such as loans and rebates) provides the much needed push in the high
potential market * With the effect of carbon tax set to increase the cost of other energy sources,
solar power will become a more viable option in the future * Thus even though the short term

Flat Earth Society
In recent news, a new community has outwardly spoken on the theory, the earth is flat. This
community calls themselves The Flat Earth Society or Flat Earthers . This began around the mid
20th century and has rapidly grown with the expansion of social media, and influencers such as
rapper B.o.B and basketball player Shaquille O Neal.
This society believes that the Earth is a flat disk, similar to the United Nations Flag (Figure 1),
where the sun works as a spotlight to create night and day.(Figure 2) The Sun revolves around the
north pole and changes position when creating the seasons.
We have learned in basic K 12 schooling that the Earth is spherical in shape. The earliest recording

Open and Closed Source Systems Essay
An operating system is a considered a set of programs that schedule tasks, assign storage and
presenting an interface to the user. There are many operating systems to choose from. Some are
created for personal use, some for business use, and some can be used for both. One of the biggest
differences is whether the operating system is open sourceor closed source. Operating systems are
created with programming code. Programmers are responsible for writing the source code, which
is compiled into executable code. This executable code is what creates the product ran on
computers. An open source system is a system in which the source code is visible. A closed source
system keeps the source code hidden.

Users have several options when choosing a closed source system. Some examples would include
Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X operating systems. Like open source systems, closed source
systems offer software for a variety of uses that include personal, server and mobile.

UnixWindows 97, XP, 7, Vista
Versions of Window Server
Mac OS X
Closed source systems are usually found in personal computers because the level of expertise
needed to use them is minimal. There are many factors to consider when determining which
system to use. The level of expertise of the user, the costs of the system and any add ons, and the
flexibility of the system must all be considered. The type of application also plays some role in
the decision. Both types can be found in personal, server, and mobile applications. However, open
source systems are often found more in mobile and server applications.

The Wreck Of The Titanic
About a hundred years has passed since the British passenger liner met its fatal end in the North
Atlantic on April 15, 1912. The RMS Titanic plummeted two miles to the ocean floor after
clashing into an iceberg during its journey to the Port of New York. Over 1,500 people drowned in
this unfortunate event. Ever since the sinking, numerous books and remarkable films have been
made, telling the story of the ship and its passengers. The wreck of the ship was found in 1985 by
the coast of Newfoundland, in the North Atlantic Ocean. Over the years, Titanic s story has made
gained unbelievable public exposure and warns people about the danger of incautiousness. The
Steamship, Titanic, was the end result of fierce competition among competitor... Show more content

In 1909, the second of these ships, Titanic, was put into progress and continued to be made nonstop
until the 1911; a long two years. At that time, Titanic was the biggest movable man made object in
the entire world. Over 100,000 people attended the launching of the new luxury boat. The ship s
framework was immediately hauled to a colossal dock where thousands of workers spent most of
the following year building the ship s decks, interiors and boilers that would power the two main
steam engines. Although the Titanic was highly boasted about for being virtually unsinkable, it
actually had many flaws. According to some theories, Titanic was fated to sink from the start. The
ship had watertight bulkheads and electric watertight doors which could be controlled by a switch.
It was the watertight bulkheads that encouraged Shipbuilder magazine to consider the Titanic
practically unsinkable. Unfortunately, the watertight compartment design possessed a major flaw
that might have been a an important factor in Titanic s sinking: although, the individual bulkheads
were in fact watertight, water could spill from one compartment into another. Many of the Titanic s
rivals already had safety features formulated into them in order to prevent this very situation. If
White Star had taken as much caution as its competitor company, it might have rewritten history
and prevented the tragedy of Titanic s sinking. The second crucial

Loyalists At The Outbreak Of The Revolution Analysis
Loyalists at the Outbreak of the Revolution, 1775 1776
This article was a collection of different stories from either the colonies or the loyalist that was
living in the United States. According to my understanding, this text shows the division in America
during this period.
It illustrates how everybody felt during this time. It s a collection of different testimony from
different people. According to Gov. William Franklin, he stated that Every breach of the [English]
Constitution, whether it proceeds from the Crown or the People, is, in its Effects, equally
destructive to the Rights of both. It shows that the effect of choosing the Independence will be bad
for people. The article went further to show that people were leaving the country for their safety.
Isaac Wilkins stated in this document, I leave America and every endearing connection because I

Women helped during this time because they produced goods for the soldiers, some of them
became nurses to help, and some spied on the British. The article demonstrated that Before 1776,
women did not participate enough in conflict over land, religion, taxes, local politics, or commercial
transaction. It showed that the revolution gave them a little freedom to participate in the social
affairs.
The author of this article is Joan Hoff Wilson, and she is a history professor who focused on the
women s studies. This document is intended for women to see what women during this American
Revolution did to support the country. She shows that even there were restrictions on what women

The Overall Quality Of Life Of The Asian American Community
Healthcare access, unfortunately, is more difficult for residents for who cannot access
transportation easily. All households in San Francisco, though, are within a quarter mile of a local
bus route or rail station. Proximity, however, does not necessarily equal accessibility, as vulnerable
residents like low income individuals or immigrants have a harder time utilizing services. San
Francisco is also known for having the highest income inequality in the state (CDPH, 2012;
SFDPH, 2012).
Experience
One can conclude that the overall quality of life of the Asian Americancommunity is moderate.
There is access to resources and services that they need, and most of them are readily available.
Not all of the communities living in San Francisco, though, have equal access to certain services,
and there are still various services that needs to be up to par with the state and national
benchmarks. Some of the major factors that affects access are the inability to pay or distance of
the service from their location. For Chinatown residents, they are living in overcrowded
conditions, which can increase their risk for respiratory and ear infections (CDPH, 2012; SPDFH,
2012). They also face poor sanitation, high environmental noise, and residential fires. Chinatown
residents are facing an increasingly elderly population, while sitting in a medically underserved
area (SFDPH, 2012; Human Service Agency of San Francisco, 2012). Key social factors that affect

Argumentative Essay On Gene Therapy
In 1990 the first gene therapy procedure gained approval and a four year old girl with SCIDs
disease was finally able to fight off a simple cold. She is now able to live a normal life with the
help of continued treatment of gene therapy. Although gene therapy is an innovative and ideally
favorable procedure when it comes to treating diseases, cancer, or inherited disorders, it is still a
delicate procedure and is continuously studied to insure it is not only effective but also and
most importantly safe. In order to insure the safety of patients a gene therapy drug must get the
approval of the FDA before becoming available, as every drug must do. Since gene therapy is
still very experimental; there are only a few gene therapy drugs that have been approved by the
FDA to treat patients. However, on August 30th, 2017 history was made when the FDA
approved Kymriah, the first CAR T cell therapy drug to be available in the United States.
Kymriah is a one time treatment for patients with B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, it was
developed through the research collaboration of Novartis and the University of Pennsylvania,
and it is manufactured for each individual patient. Kymriah s only drawback would be the price
tag of $475,000 for a course of treatment, however Novartis plans to wave the fee for patients
where Kymriah is not successful. When a parent takes their child to the doctor the last thing they
want to hear is that their child has cancer. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for a child to be
diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, also known as ALL. Acute Lymphoblastic
Leukemia is one of the most common forms of childhood cancer, and makes up approximately
25% of cancer diagnoses among children under 15 years old (3). Children under five years of
age are at the most risk of developing ALL. Since it is an acute form of cancer once the onset has
begun the disease quickly begins to worsen, therefore patients must seek treatment as soon as
possible. ALL is different than other diseases in that it is not just a single disease but also rather a
group of related diseases with different subtypes (1). This uniqueness causes the treatment of ALL
to depend on the subtypes the patient has, therefore each

Effects Of Imperialism In The Anglo-Zulu War
The Anglo Zulu War Imperialism: A policy of extending a country s power and influence through
diplomacy or military force. Imperialism is one of the most ignorant things you could do in another
country. British are at the top of the chain when it comes to imperialism. British imperialized many
countries and regions in Africa. The one that started the force into imperialism in Africa was the
Anglo Zulu War. What started the uprising roar into the war was the dispute between the Zulus and
Boers and Europeans wanted to . The king of Britain gave the king of Zulu Nation an ultimatum

Similarities And Differences Of Banquets In The...
Research Paper
Have you ever wondered how banquets from the Elizabethan Era are similar and different from
today s era? Everyday life in the Elizabethan Era was amazing; however, banquets and inventions
were the same as how we live today. This paper will explain the different events and similarities
and differences from now and the Elizabethan Era .
In the Elizabethan Era there were many big feasts and festivals. Some feasts were for the queen
and many other royals .These banquets and feast were very different from today. The average
family in the 21st century eats one meal; however in the Elizabethan Era people ate five different
course meals at their banquets and feasts. Some of the foods that were served: a quarter stag, a

In Elizabethan Era their audiences in their theater were filled like some of our movie theaters
today. Their performances were mostly given in the afternoon. Except in this century people mostly
go to movies at night time. Their movies would last two or three hours just like today s theater.
At some of these theater shows in the Elizabethan Era there were many different artist. Queen
Elizabeth even made up some of the arts herself. Some of the artist that painted portraits of Queen
Elizabeth was Hans Holbein, and Nicholas Hillard. Hillard painted a mini portrait of Queen
Elizabeth in 1952. Hillard painted most of his portraits from Henry s courtiers .Most of these
paintings were brought before Queen Elizabeth at these banquets and feasts that were held. These
two artists got their ideas from the European Renaissance.
In the painting that Hillard painted in 1572, he painted Queen Elizabeth in a piece of clothing they
called a ruff. The Elizabethan Era clothing style is something you wouldn t see anyone wearing in
the 21st century. In the 2000s people wore jeans and shirts and casual jackets. In the Elizabethan
Era women wore gowns, corsets, and ruffs. Men wore doublets, breeches, and ruffs as

The Problem Of Chronic Pain
Chronic pain has burdened its victims with major difficulties that often span beyond the physical
discomfort to psychological, social, and economic well being (1). The prevalence of non cancerous
chronic pain in Europeans ranges from 8% 60% across many studies involving different methods
and populations. Nearly 1 in 4 adults in Europe report experiencing chronic painwhich affects their
daily lives (1) and 30% of Americans report chronic pain (2). In particular, 1% of all individuals
in the developed world experience rheumatoid arthritis and these rates are growing with an

Although anxiety and depression are common among chronic pain patients seeking medical care,
they are often hard to detect (4).
In order to ensure the most comprehensive patient care and satisfaction, it is critical to investigate
physician and patient interactions during a medical consultation (4 6). Recent research suggests
outcomes are related to communication (7,8). Physicians need to be aware not to discourage
patients from sharing sensitive information while still conducting the medical aspects of the
consultation. Typically, the medical aspects dominate the consultation so it is not surprising that
patients wishing to talk about particular worries or concerns give somewhat indirect or underlying
cues or clues which are hard to detect (4). Some studies show that patient satisfaction is not affected
by physician reaction to cues and concerns (9), while others have found the opposite that indeed
responsiveness is related to patient satisfaction (10). If we can better understand patient
communication whether explicit or implied, we will have a greater ability to understand how
physicians can best communicate in consultation to guide the patient to disclose concerns (11).
Although it is understood that a physician s ability to communicate has a great effect on the patient,
the training in this area is still deficient (5,12). Medical students are more likely to give

The Political Of Political Socialization
The process of political socialization is vital in the developing of how one views politics, the way
they act or choose not to act, and how they identify within the political system. Although countless
influences sway or attract us to a given political view, party, or identification, there are undoubtedly
certain factors that play a bigger role in this process. Some of the most prominent agents of
political socialization are as follows; family, media, peers, education, religion, faith, race, gender,
age, geography, and socioeconomic status. We know these develop or determine our views of
politics but now we ll look at how and why they have such an impact.
Family is the first and most important agent of political socialization. Mothers and fathers, or
legal guardians, siblings and grandparents, as well as members of an extended family, all teach a
child what he or she needs to know in order to function successfully within society including the
political process. The family is a powerful influence because the structure of the family and the
child wanting to please his or her parents encourage conformity not only to the parents basic life
views and beliefs but also to their political values. In particular, children will often identify with the
parents political party while those who don t register usually support some of the views of the
party which their parents favored or have no interest in politics typically because their parents didn
t show interest in politics. I

Hello Lagertha,
Below is the memorandum for the negligence action regarding our client, Mr. Ragnarr Loobrok. To

experience economic loss. Causation refers to whether the defendants conduct (or omission), in
this case The State Of Victoria, caused the resulting harm or damage. The common law of
negligence obliges instigation of causation for the purposefulness of attaching legal
accountability. Another element that must be proven is that it is applicable for the scope of the
negligent persons liability to extend to the harm so caused (scope of liability ). As it is a case of
negligence the onus of proving, on the balance of probabilities, is weighed upon our client, the
plaintiff Mr. Ragnarr. Even if the but for test is applied to the current situation in the case, the
outcome would be that the loss suffered by the plaintiff would have only occurred if the defendant
acted negligently, which they did, and therefore if they hadn t have acted in that way, then our
client would not have been publicly humiliated by the State Of Victoria as a result. The court must
deliberate whether it is suitable to extend the scope of the defendant negligence to the harm caused

Systems Theory In Social Work
One last theory which has impacted my clinical social work practice is systems theory which seeks
to understand how interrelated and interdependent parts work together to make up a whole system
(Langer, Lietz, Ebooks, 2015). For clients in court mandated treatment, multiple systems interact
together to inform and affect treatment outcomes. Probation, parole, the department of corrections,
the court system, the halfway house, the client s income status, housing arrangements, and family
systems are just a few of the systems which can be present for court mandated clients. With
intersecting mental health, substance use, and oftentimes trauma; all of these systems are
interdependent and intrinsically linked and thus it is important as a clinician to understand that the
client may be heavily affected by one system which can impact their overall treatment. Another
aspect of systems theoryapplies to mezzo level interactions between myself, my organization, and
other organizations which are interrelated with my organizations. My concentration internship is

Use a wet pastry brush to eliminate sugar crystals
As the amber brown colour appears turn the heat to medium

CARAMEL AND CRYSTALLIZATION
When a wet caramel is made, first we make a sugar syrup which is sugar dissolved in water. The
water evaporates as heating process continue to make caramel, the syrup becomes super
saturated, which means that it holds more sugar molecules than the normal capacity of water.
Due to this, the sugar tries to re crystallize. If this happens, final product ends up with a pan full
of clear rock candy. In order to avoid this, we have to make sure pan is spotlessly clean. Sugar
molecules have jagged edges and can easily stick to each other or to the impurities from the pan. A
tool is required to stir caramel, which may contain impurities leading to crystallization, some
people also say that stirring in itself (after the sugar has dissolved) can cause the sugar syrup to
crystallize, as stirring encourages the sugar molecules to clump together. So instead, swirling the
pan is another option

The Ballet Of The Italian Renaissance Essay
Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a
concert dance form in France and Russia. Barre is French for bar, and a barre has been used in
ballet training as a support to help with balance while practicing traditional ballet technique.
Modern barre techniques can be traced back to Lotte Berk who, like Joseph Pilates, fled
Germany because of the Nazis. (Lotte Berk fled to the UK in 1938 because she was Jewish, while
Pilates fled to New York City supposedly because the Nazis wanted to recruit him to train the uber
German body).
Lotte Berk developed a fitness regime in the UK that incorporated barre and other dance related
and core strengthening exercises. Her technique was popular in the sixties and seventies in New
York city and other cities around the world. Since then other individuals and companies have
developed barre programs that use a ballet barre and incorporate different fitness concepts. Now
there are many fitness franchises in the US that incorporate the ballet barre.
How is Ellie Herman s Brooklyn Barre different from other Barre Methods?
While many of the current barre methods do exercises that may make your legs and tummy look
good, they ultimately can damage the knee joints and lumbar spine.
Neutral Pelvis v. Flat Back

the pelvis in a poster pelvic tilt instead of a neutral pelvis. Why is this

Violation Of Social Norms
At a very early age, children learn about social norms to help them become proper citizens in
society. Examples of some social norms that students learn are: do not yell in the library, do not
speak unless spoken to, do not talk to strangers, and close the door when you use the restroom. As
you grow older, these rules become unspoken because everyone knows how to act like a proper
individual in society. The textbook definition of a social normis something that is a rule of
behavior that society accepts. (Bicchieri) Since everyone knows these unsaid rules of society, what
would happen when someone decides not to follow these rules? What would people think and
react? In this paper, I discuss my violation of the social normdon t talk to strangers and discuss what
I learned from this experiment.
The social norm that I chose to violate was initiating conversation and talking to strangers on public
transportation. By doing this I deviated from the unspoken rule which says that you should not talk
to strangers and that you should not interact with others on public transportation because of the
possibility of them harming or assaulting you. From doing this activity, I learned that power
dynamics exist in every situation and that by violating a social norm I, as a young woman, put
myself in a vulnerable position. I chose to make this decision to talk to strangers on public
transport because it seemed relatively safe and within my zone of comfort, considering

Essay about Theodore Roethke s Root Cellar
Theodore Roethke s Root Cellar
Theodore Roethke was raised in Michigan, where cities and towns are woven with lakes, streams,
and rivers. This atmosphere gave Roethke a mystical reverence for nature, (McMichael, 1615) and
allowed him to take a grotesque image and transform it into natural magnificence. A great example
of this is Roethke s poem Root Cellar. The poem describes a cellar, which most people would
consider to be a death baring, cold place. Instead, Roethke gives the dungeon life and enchantment.
The first line gives the reader an idea that the cellar is awake. In the second line, there is a
description of the plants left in numerous boxes that search for a bit of light to help them continue
their existence. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plant roots are not frequently compared to snakes, but Roethke seems to successfully make the
comparison using both a metaphor and simile in the same line:
Shoots dangled and drooped,
Lolling obscenely from mildewed crates,
Hung down long yellow evil necks, like tropical snakes. (1617)
Personification is a literary mode used when the author gives an inanimate object a human quality.
This also helps Roethke to create his imagery. He even gives the dirt on the basement floor life:
Nothing would give up life:
Even the dirt kept breathing a small breath. (1617)
When first reading this poem, Roethke reminded me of my granny s cellar. As a young child,
my family and I would take an annual trip down to Clinton, Indiana. This is where my granny
(great grandmother) lived. All these trips consisted of the same thing: playing Bunco, catching
fireflies, and taking a bath in her white ceramic bathtub. Each year it was interesting to see how
much I had grown and how hard it was for me to fit into the tub. The rest of my family used the
shower, which was located in the cellar of her house. Roethke describes it well in the first line of
his poem, Nothing would sleep in that cellar, dank as a ditch. (1617) It was dark, dusty and
infested with spiders so I refused to enter the stairwell. When I was about nine years old, my
parents decided it was time for me to start taking showers in the dungeon. As

Many people believe that education is the key to success. Hoping that if people finished college,
they will land a good and stable job. Precisely, college degree has a huge positive impact for most
people because employers will look at employees education and experience in their resumes to
exceed their expectations. However, college is ineffective to some people yet many of them
become successful in life. Typical example is the governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker who was re
elected twice from 2010 and 2014. He deliberated the top tier potential presidential candidate
despite not having college degree (Koplowitz, 2014). Furthermore, he is currently using his life
experience and ability to take advantage in the campaign. Talent, skill, and intellect are among the
most important characteristics of individuals to become successful. Moreover, many young people
join the military after high school to serve the country and save up money for future references
such as going back to school or starting it as a career. Therefore, it is very significant for
everyone if college is really for them or not because college can cost highly which may not exceed
their expectations. Providentially, some alternative ways that people may apply to become
successful in life besides going to college.

The Most Important Moment Of My Life
When asked about the most important moment in your life, what is the first thought that comes
to mind? Is it something beautiful and profound such as the birth of a younger sibling? Is it
something depressingly vivid in it s own way like the death of a beloved grandparent? Is it
something small that had a magnificent effect on you discovering a lost neighbor cat led you to

significant and meaningful moments in my life, instead of remembering the day my mother
told me that we were moving to Michigan, or my first day of kindergarten (or even high school),
I seem to only be able to conjure up little insignificant lapses of time. I think of when I was 9,

know why 9 year old Emily thoughtthat moment was so important that she deemed it absolutely
necessary to remember it for the rest of her life, or why my brain still thinks that it s relevant

1.Norm reference (p.148) This occurs when a researcher compares the participant s score, to the
score the reference group received on the same test. This reference group should be comparable to
the participant in age and grade level.

Chopin Prelude No 15 Essay
Chopin s Prelude No. 15 for Solo Piano Hey guys, welcome to my blog! Today, I ll be sharing with
you guys one of my favourite pieces by romantic composer, Chopin, Prelude No 15, or more
commonly known as Raindrop. Frederic Chopin s Prelude No 15, also known as Raindrop, is
one of Chopin s 24 preludes. His preludes were written between 1835 and 1839 and were
published in 1839. Chopin s preludes were arranged in a circle of fifths, with each major key
being followed by its relative minor. In comparison, Bach s collection of fugues and preludes,
known as The Well Tempered Clavier was arranged according to keys, each one a semitone higher.
This is why some believe Chopin intended the preludes to be played in a single performance as a

The rubato is a common device used by both romantic and classical composers and is used for
emotional expression. The rubato is played spontaneously and cannot be calculated. This again
highlights the individualism and freedom given to performers in the romantic era. The piece is
slow and is sustained. The music slows down in bar 81. The piece slows down with a ritenuto in
bar 88 and ends with a

Social Representation Of Dracula
The legend of the vampire has emerged countless times within human imagination over the past few
centuries. The first available representation of the mythical creature in prose fiction can be found in
John Polidori s The Vampyre (1810). It was not until eight decades later that Bram Stoker
popularized the existence of this figure with the publication of Draculain 1897. The folklore of the
vampirehas come a long way since and can be found in today s popular media more frequently
than ever before. However, with due course of time, the representation of the creature has taken
alternate routes and today s vampires are noticeable different socially and physically from their
predecessors. One effective path to trace this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Punter and Byron reinforce this claim by stating that, Dracula is associated with disruption and
transgression of accepted limits and boundaries (231). It is relevant to consider the aggressive
behavior of Dracula towards his victims while he is on the prowl to fulfill his thirst for blood,
especially with Lucy and Reinfield and the image of female vampires feeding on young children
(Lucy). This bolsters the notion that the depiction of vampires in early portrays was violent.
Also, as a sexually powerful creature, he preyed on men and women to fulfill his desires. The
sexual representation of vampires is also evident from Ernest Jones early analysis of folktales,
including the vampire. He proceeded to conclude that vampire s and their counterparts, namely the
Churel (India) and the Drud (vampires that prey exclusively on other vampires), do not confine
themselves to sucking blood; rather in the unconscious mind, blood is commonly associated with
semen (106). It would be inaccurate to associate these references to anything but the erotic nature
of older folktales. Even in Dracula, the Count is portrayed as a seductive aristocrat who sucks on
the blood of men and women, alike. The homosexual aspect of vampire tales is also apparent in
Carmilla (Joseph le Fanu 1872). As pointed out by Punter and Byron, Laura experiences intense
erotic advances from the female vampire, to the extent of being puzzled

  • 2. The Education System Of The United States Essay Purpose of Education As a developed nation, the United States owes its success to the education system that has evolved with our nation. While at times conflict consumes our nation, tragedy occurs, and hardships arise we can rest assured that our elected officials and citizens are making intelligent decisions that uphold our values, rights, and liberty. These leaders have been elected to operate our democratic society which is propelled forward by education. Education serves as the single most important factor of our society s framework. How our Education System Developed and Why Thomas Jefferson referred to education as a diffusion of knowledge in the bill he proposed to the Virginia legislature in 1779 (Jefferson, 1779, p.20). He meant that by diffusing the knowledge amongst the people they will be able to protect the values, liberties, and rights that had been granted to them. Jefferson s ideas were derived from the English education system. His bill did not pass Virginia s legislature, but it shows us Thomas Jefferson s views about education, and because of his efforts it was not long until there was a national push for education from the north, starting with the Boston schools. The Common School Movement The common school movement was based on the idea that all people are guaranteed the right to an education. There were two prominent voices driving the common school movement, Catherine Beecher, and Horace Mann. Horace Mann believed that education was essential to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Catholic Church Should Accept That Gay Marriage The Catholic Church should accept that gay marriage is morally acceptable and doesn t contradict their beliefs. Gay marriage has been a topic of controversy ever since the 1970 s. May of 1970 to be exact. Around This time two men named Richard John Jack Baker and James Michael McConnell in Minnesota applied to Hennepin County District Court clerk Gerald Nelson for a marriagelicense. They were denied because they both were men. This issue of two people of the same sex getting married is still a topic of debate to a lot of people even after the U.S. Supreme court made gay marriage legal in all 50 states in 20151. The Catholic Church teaches to treat homosexuals with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. That every act of hate, violence, and persecution toward them is condemned. The Church doesn t view homosexuals no poorly than they do everyone else but it is their views on marriage that are in question. They believe that all sexual activity outside of marriage as a sin and an immoral act. So, if we restrict marriage from homosexuals then if they are in a sexual relationship with another they are in turn an immoral person. Therefore, the Catholic Church should view gay marriage the same as heterosexual marriage, with reverence and sanctity. Marriage, also known as the matrimonial covenant, is to establish a partnership between a man and a woman for the entirety of their lives and which is ordered by its nature to the good of the spouses and the procreation ... • 5. Standard 4 Medication Safety Case Study The standard from the National Safety and Quality Health Service (2012) that I believe has the highest risk associated for a graduate nurse is Standard 4 Medication Safety (Bain). If best practice outlined in this standard is not abided by, then medication errors occur and may lead to poor outcomes for patients. These outcomes include longer hospitalisations, increased costs and death (Cheragi et al., 2014). Medication errors are preventable and cause great harm to the patients and their families. Every year in Australian hospitals, medication errors occur as nurses do not follow the 9 rights of medication administration. The 9 rights are right patient, drug, route, time, documentation, response, action and form (Fossum et al., 2016). Medication errors can be caused by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Australian hospitals medication administration errors make up 9% or 1 in10 of all medication administrations. Errors on discharge of patients were increasingly higher with up to 2 errors per patient related to doctors transcribing discharge medications (Roughead, Semple, Rosenfeld, 2016). As a graduate nurse there are strategies that I will use to ensure that Standard 4 Medication Safety is adhered to and patient outcomes are improved. The two strategies I would use include double checking of medication with another nurse and ensuring patient identifiers are being used. Double checking of medications with a senior nurse is a strategy that is used to improve patient safety by reducing medication errors. This is especially important for paediatric medication administration. It is important that staff members both do dosage calculations separately, as this is how errors are discovered before the medications are administered (Lan, Wang, Yu, Chen, Wu, Tang, ... An employer is liable for the actions of his employee unless they fall outside the scope of employment. Williams v. Community Drive In Theater, Inc., 520 P.2d 1296, [p. 1297] (Kan. 1974). The employee filmed Underwood within the scope of his employment, but posting was outside the scope. The plaintiff alleges invasion of privacy and damage to reputation, but the harms of both claims come from the act of sharing the video with others. Had the employee not shared the video, the plaintiff probably would have no case for damage to her reputation as the events would have stayed between the two parties. Instead, he posted the video. Posting, rather than filming, caused the plaintiff harm. It is clear the employee acted within the scope while filming. As a service worker who often closes the store, an employee should have experience with difficult customers late at night. As such, the situation fell within the normal course of his duties. The worker s main goal was not a personal motive, but to close the store. He thought filming the plaintiff would incentive her to leave. Posting falls outside the scope of employment for a few reasons. First, he posted the video to his personal account for the purposes of entertaining online viewers. He also knew that Vega did not approve of him being on YouTube during work hours, but did so anyway. Finally, Vega noted embarrassing customers did not benefit the business, but might ease personal annoyances to the worker, meaning the video helped the posting employee to the detriment his employer. The ship s framework was immediately hauled to a colossal dock where thousands of workers spent most of the following year building the ship s decks, interiors and boilers that would power the two main steam engines. Although the Titanic was highly boasted about for being virtually unsinkable, it actually had many flaws. According to some theories, Titanic was fated to sink from the start. The ship had watertight bulkheads and electric watertight doors which could be controlled by a switch. It was the watertight bulkheads that encouraged Shipbuilder magazine to consider the Titanic practically unsinkable. Unfortunately, the watertight compartment design possessed a major flaw that might have been a an important factor in Titanic s sinking: although, the individual bulkheads were in fact watertight, water could spill from one compartment into another. Many of the Titanic s rivals already had safety features formulated into them in order to prevent this very situation. She is now able to live a normal life with the help of continued treatment of gene therapy. Although gene therapy is an innovative and ideally favorable procedure when it comes to treating diseases, cancer, or inherited disorders, it is still a delicate procedure and is continuously studied to insure it is not only effective but also and most importantly safe. In order to insure the safety of patients a gene therapy drug must get the approval of the FDA before becoming available, as every drug must do. Since gene therapy is still very experimental; there are only a few gene therapy drugs that have been approved by the FDA to treat patients. However, on August 30th, 2017 history was made when the FDA approved Kymriah, the first CAR T cell therapy drug to be available in the United States. Kymriah is a one time treatment for patients with B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, it was developed through the research collaboration of Novartis and the University of Pennsylvania, and it is manufactured for each individual patient. Kymriah s only drawback would be the price tag of $475,000 for a course of treatment, however Novartis plans to wave the fee for patients where Kymriah is not successful. Although anxiety and depression are common among chronic pain patients seeking medical care, they are often hard to detect (4). In order to ensure the most comprehensive patient care and satisfaction, it is critical to investigate physician and patient interactions during a medical consultation (4 6). Recent research suggests outcomes are related to communication (7,8). Physicians need to be aware not to discourage patients from sharing sensitive information while still conducting the medical aspects of the consultation. Typically, the medical aspects dominate the consultation so it is not surprising that patients wishing to talk about particular worries or concerns give somewhat indirect or underlying cues or clues which are hard to detect (4). Some studies show that patient satisfaction is not affected by physician reaction to cues and concerns (9), while others have found the opposite that indeed responsiveness is related to patient satisfaction (10). If we can better understand patient communication whether explicit or implied, we will have a greater ability to understand how physicians can best communicate in consultation to guide the patient to disclose concerns (11). Although it is understood that a physician s ability to communicate has a great effect on the patient, the training in this area is still deficient (5,12). • 23. The Political Of Political Socialization The process of political socialization is vital in the developing of how one views politics, the way they act or choose not to act, and how they identify within the political system. Although countless influences sway or attract us to a given political view, party, or identification, there are undoubtedly certain factors that play a bigger role in this process. Some of the most prominent agents of political socialization are as follows; family, media, peers, education, religion, faith, race, gender, age, geography, and socioeconomic status. We know these develop or determine our views of politics but now we ll look at how and why they have such an impact. Family is the first and most important agent of political socialization. Mothers and fathers, or legal guardians, siblings and grandparents, as well as members of an extended family, all teach a child what he or she needs to know in order to function successfully within society including the political process. The family is a powerful influence because the structure of the family and the child wanting to please his or her parents encourage conformity not only to the parents basic life views and beliefs but also to their political values. In particular, children will often identify with the parents political party while those who don t register usually support some of the views of the party which their parents favored or have no interest in politics typically because their parents didn t show interest in politics. Start string the mixture Once final required colour is attained stop cooking and Pour in moulds CARAMEL AND CRYSTALLIZATION When a wet caramel is made, first we make a sugar syrup which is sugar dissolved in water. The water evaporates as heating process continue to make caramel, the syrup becomes super saturated, which means that it holds more sugar molecules than the normal capacity of water. Due to this, the sugar tries to re crystallize. If this happens, final product ends up with a pan full of clear rock candy. In order to avoid this, we have to make sure pan is spotlessly clean. Sugar molecules have jagged edges and can easily stick to each other or to the impurities from the pan. A tool is required to stir caramel, which may contain impurities leading to crystallization, some people also say that stirring in itself (after the sugar has dissolved) can cause the sugar syrup to crystallize, as stirring encourages the sugar molecules to clump together. Barre is French for bar, and a barre has been used in ballet training as a support to help with balance while practicing traditional ballet technique. Modern barre techniques can be traced back to Lotte Berk who, like Joseph Pilates, fled Germany because of the Nazis. • 45. Chopin Prelude No 15 Essay Chopin s Prelude No. 15 for Solo Piano Hey guys, welcome to my blog! Today, I ll be sharing with you guys one of my favourite pieces by romantic composer, Chopin, Prelude No 15, or more commonly known as Raindrop. Frederic Chopin s Prelude No 15, also known as Raindrop, is one of Chopin s 24 preludes. His preludes were written between 1835 and 1839 and were published in 1839. Chopin s preludes were arranged in a circle of fifths, with each major key being followed by its relative minor. In comparison, Bach s collection of fugues and preludes, known as The Well Tempered Clavier was arranged according to keys, each one a semitone higher. This is why some believe Chopin intended the preludes to be played in a single performance as a continuous... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 46. Social Representation Of Dracula The legend of the vampire has emerged countless times within human imagination over the past few centuries. The first available representation of the mythical creature in prose fiction can be found in John Polidori s The Vampyre (1810). It was not until eight decades later that Bram Stoker popularized the existence of this figure with the publication of Draculain 1897. The folklore of the vampirehas come a long way since and can be found in today s popular media more frequently than ever before. However, with due course of time, the representation of the creature has taken alternate routes and today s vampires are noticeable different socially and physically from their predecessors. One effective path to trace this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Punter and Byron reinforce this claim by stating that, Dracula is associated with disruption and transgression of accepted limits and boundaries (231). It is relevant to consider the aggressive behavior of Dracula towards his victims while he is on the prowl to fulfill his thirst for blood, especially with Lucy and Reinfield and the image of female vampires feeding on young children (Lucy). This bolsters the notion that the depiction of vampires in early portrays was violent. Also, as a sexually powerful creature, he preyed on men and women to fulfill his desires. The sexual representation of vampires is also evident from Ernest Jones early analysis of folktales, including the vampire. He proceeded to conclude that vampire s and their counterparts, namely the Churel (India) and the Drud (vampires that prey exclusively on other vampires), do not confine themselves to sucking blood; rather in the unconscious mind, blood is commonly associated with semen (106). It would be inaccurate to associate these references to anything but the erotic nature of older folktales. Even in Dracula, the Count is portrayed as a seductive aristocrat who sucks on the blood of men and women, alike. The homosexual aspect of vampire tales is also apparent in Carmilla (Joseph le Fanu 1872). As pointed out by Punter and Byron, Laura experiences intense erotic advances from the female vampire, to the extent of being puzzled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
