Reality Versus Perception in the Kasdan Films, Grand Canyon and Mumford
All of knowledge is founded on axioms: assumptions that are agreed upon for stability. However,
since those axioms are assumptions and cannot be proven without a doubt, nothing ca truly be
known with absolute certainly. Still, in order to carry on with life, assumptions have to be made.
Knowing this, the task becomes making assumption that are more educated and, given the lack of
certainty, ones that matter. Furthermore, the assumption of others can be examined more accurately
with this knowledge in mind. The most important of these assumptions, and in many cases points
of debate, is the nature of reality. The old world thought the matters of the spirit to... Show more

The interlacing strands of themes in both films are much like those of time. Each event triggers
another in a continuum of interrelationships between factors of co and counter stimulus. The
following exposition focuses on articulating how those films portray the endeavor to determine, if
not true reality, then certainly some forms of realities. More specifically, attention will be drawn to
the variable perception of these realities in Grand Canyon, and the notion of reality being variable
in the first place from a look at Mumford.
A number of events occur within Grand Canyon, which are interpreted differently by different
characters. In the beginning Mac is being harassed by a gang and thus gets, in a manner of
speaking, saved from a worse fate by Simon. Mac believes this to be some sort of blessing or
even divine intervention. Though if not, he certainly attributes some greater force than random
occurrence to the favorable turn of events. Mac and Simon s conversation following the incident
shows that Simon may have a more rationally slanted perspective. Simon s telling of a story about
the shark illustrates that Mac s meeting of the gang is a matter of being in the wrong place at the
wrong time, and that these things happen as a way of the way things are. Though Simon does
question whether or not it is the way things are supposed to be.
Later in the story, the money minded movie producer Davis gets shot.

Paul Laurence Dunbar Sympathy Summary
All beings require a degree of freedom to truly live, as such, caged animals are often subjected to a
life subpar to truly living. Consequently, this rule applies to humans as well, and unfortunately
enough, most humans in our era fail to live. In the poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar,
Dunbar seeks to explore this sullen connection with the speaker and a caged animal feels by
utilizing repetition and metaphor.
The first stanza begins with the primary metaphor of the caged bird. In this line, the speaker states
that he knows what the caged bird feels (line 1). Under the assumption that the speaker, like most
people, cannot speak to animals, his understanding of the bird s feelings must come from inference
from observation. Dunbar goes onto depict a beautiful landscape of the birds natural habitat.
However, the feelings of the depiction are clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bird s mania manifests in vain attempts on breaking the bars of his cage with his body.
Beating its body against the bars until he bleeds red, (line 9) the bird would almost prefer death
to this life if it were not for the vague prospect of release. Towards the end of the stanza, the tale
of the caged bird thickens as his old scars... pulse... with a keener sting (line 12 13). This line
shows that the bird is not simply trying to fly away without understanding the limits of the change,
the bird seems to represent the spirit of a stallion rejecting the enforced domestication of its captors.
The last stanza summarizes the predicament of the cage bird, and the odd act which the caged
bird commits, the caged bird sings (line 15). However, singing often represents joy Dunbar
clarifies that this singing is in prayer. After beating himself against the bars he resigns his broken
body to sing and pray for success, reaching to a higher power for

Persuasive Freedom Of Speech
Content generated by the media is vastly changing with time. Alongside, how the audience wishes
to view content is changing as well. In the earlier times, only televisions and radios were used to
transfer information. Nowadays, new platforms and websites are using different techniques to
deliver content to their respective audience. On Netflix Nobody Speak, by Brian Knappenberger is
one of the many information and knowledge packed documentary, that redefines the way viewers
learn about the different meanings of certain phrases. One of the ways is freedom of speech, which
enables individuals to express ideas and thoughts candidly. Different audience group will
acknowledge different purposes to freedom of speech. Even though civilians hold the right to
freedom of speech, it can also come with deadly consequences. The expression in the documentary
holds a cruel and degrading meaning, even so, other reasons such as the rights of privacymight
outweigh the separate statement. The case between Terry Bolea and Gawker refines how different
audience ponders about the meaning freedom of speech. Expressing how freedom of speech and
technology was misused to degrade one of the most renowned celebrities named Hulk Hogan,
known initially as Terry Bolea.
Firstly, no kind of authority should obtain the power to interrogate or expose another person s
private life to the media. The quote, Freedom of information clashes with people s right to
privacy on a political government level, which is usually constrained, (Mass Communication in
Canada, p.38), states that freedom of speech is limited and should not break certain rules.
Considering celebrities are role models, that does not make them perfect human beings.
Gawker.com a self opinionated website, developed to publicize atrocious or embarrassing
footage about contrastive celebrities; uses freedom of speech as ammo to release footage that
could potentially ruin a person s standard and career. From the film, witnessing that Hulk Hogan s
private life was in jeopardy by the power of freedom of speech that Gawker.com perceives to hold.
Fundamentally, freedom of speech considering a characteristic of the public sphere, but it is limited
to certain morals and guideline.

Human Development and the Importance of Wind Energy...
Human Development and the Importance of Wind Energy Conversion
For human development to continue, we will ultimately need to find sources of renewable or
virtually inexhaustible energy. It s difficult to imagine this, but even if we find several hundred or
even thousand years of coal and natural gas supplies, what will humans do for the next 250,000
years or so after they are depleted? Even the most apparently inexhaustible sources like fusion
involve the generation of large amounts of waste heat enough to place damaging stress on even a
robust ecosystem like Earth s, at least for the organisms that depend upon stability of the system to
survive.
We are engaged in a sort of world wide biological experiment, with our descendents... Show more

We are blissfully sedated by low conventional energy prices and are gulping down the few
remaining years of cheap natural gas and Mid East oil. As we do this, the inertia of global
warming is inexorably building.
What drives the continued development of mechanical devices like wind turbines in the face of
this widespread lack of support? In the case of wind turbine technology, I suspect that part of the
reason for persistence of this vision is how accessible wind turbines are to the understanding. They
are personal in a way that almost no other form of power generation is.
This personal scale has been both the blessing and the curse of wind power development. The field
tends to attract people who are committed, creative, and passionate. It also attracts a few people
who are a little too much of all of those things, to the point that sometimes the grounding of
reality is lost. Both of these tendencies will be evident in this brief history of wind power
development. Wind power will probably succeed or fail based on the ability or inability of its
proponents to bank the fires of Romance and focus on defining wind generation s role as a practical
alternative to conventional generation sources.
Wind energy conversion is a fascinating field to study, if only because its past has been so
checkered and its exact future is so uncertain. Unlike the aerospace industry, the computer industry,
and almost any other successful industry you can name, wind energy the

A Formal Analysis of Potential Career Choices
A Formal Analysis Of Potential Career Choices
Introduction A formal analysis of the characteristics and outlook for two possible career choices
Policeman vs. Lawyer is a valuable tool in the decision making process used by an employment
candidate to make a successful selection between them. New entrants into the job market face a
very competitive environment and training (or re training) for jobs is frequently expensive and
time consuming. Therefore there is a definite need to make one s career decisions using a
comprehensive, formal analysis in order to promote a successful and satisfying career choice.
Background information was gathered by a search of peer reviewed articles from governmental
and professional journal sources in the literature. These articles provided several important
variables to be considered in the methodology, including: (a) candidate gender; (b) candidate
ethnicity; (c) educational level; (d) physical demands; (e) mental/analytical demands; (f) pathways
to advancement; and (g) employment outlook. These decision variables are identified for each
potential career choice and then compared and contrasted between the career options. A conclusion
is then reached as to a recommended best fit option relative to a candidate s career goals and
interests.

Odysseus was sent to the underworld because he needed help about how to get home, and also
whathis future was to be. Aeneas being in the underworld is similar to Odysseus in that he
toodesired to know his future. Both authors shared the same idea of an underworld, and bothgive
clear pictures about how horrifying the underworld can be. The final comparison is that of the
Greek and Roman games. Again, both authors give a clear description of the games. The games
that were played by the Romans were taken very seriously, and it showed Roman values in society

In addition, in both epics, both the Romans and Greeks play the same games, those being wrestling,
boxing, running, long jump, diskos throwing, and javelin throwing. Both the Aeneid and the
Odyssey are similar in many ways. Not only are they both epics, but both Odysseus and Aeneas are
both sent a journey, having to overcome many obstacles to and as a result become epic heroes.
Secondly, both the Greek and Romans underworlds are worlds that Aeneas and Odysseus are
both sent to in order to receive help. Further, both heroes see a place filled with many suffering
people who are being judged. And finally, the Greek and Romans take the games very seriously
as both Odysseus and Aeneas strive to do an excellent job during the games, and to win honor.
Both of these characters show the true qualities of a hero honor and bravery. As Aristotle sates,
The truly good and wise man will bear all kinds of fortune in a seemly way, and will always act in
the noblest manner that the circumstances allow.

African Music Research Paper
Africa, a continent rich in culture and diversity, sets the base of my cultural lecture. Being filled
with many distinct yet close bonded countries in which have different yet similar sounds
musically, paved the way and has had its impartation of our music today. Coming from an African
background, I thought it would only be proper for me to focus more in on my roots. For centuries
now African music has been commended to not only having dissecting beats and rhythms, but to
also have spiritual ties with its rich heritage. Through the slave trade, the rich traditional of African
music was divided and set to evolve along with its people.
Although what was taught to be the traditional african sound of music, has indeed evolved over the
centuries. Many traces of what was known as the traditional sound are archaeological. What
differentiated traditional African music from another were their uses of unique instruments. In the
Yoruba culture in Nigeria, west Africa, ig̀bìn drums were used in their traditional festivals

Toddlers In Tiaras Rhetorical Analysis
In the article, Toddlers in Tiaras by Skip Hollandsworth, the author s main focus is to make the
audience aware of the dangers involved in child pageantry, and how it can negatively impact the
children who participate. People who enter their kids in these events don t think to consider the
consequences that result from pageantlifestyle. By incorporating strategies of ethos, pathos, and
logos, he is able to make an effective point of argument to persuade the audience. Hollandsworth
makes himself credible by using intelligence, to contact professional people with experience about

Historical Gender Roles
Over the past decades, gender roles and family relations have changed, specifically in marriage
and in family relations. Men and women now have equal rights, which means women can work
at any job they would like, have a right to vote, and do not have to live under any rule of their
family. Back in 1450 2000 circa people would live under very tight ruling where you either
follow the rules or die. There were a few similarities as well as differences during this time in
Western Europe and the Middle East. In 8000 600 CE in Greece only men are capable of
perfection; women secluded. Rome would have Paterfamilias. Paterfamilias are strict authority
centered around the oldest male. Women have influenced family and public lives as a mother or
daughter. Around 600 1450 CE women could own and inherit property, enter religious life as
nuns, run households, while men were away, and lower class women had more freedom. Upper
class women increased in education and divorce easier for women to file. In 1914 present men

Systematic Worth In Fahrenheit 451
Systematic Worth: How Society Has Caused Imperfection by Reaching for Perfection No one
knows you better than you know yourself. This fabled quote implies a sense of of self awareness
for an individual, and in a way, it passively rejects the societal norms and outside judgements
towards that individual. However, the world seeks a systematic approach to determining the
capability and worth of individuals. This system, whether imposed by the government, social
norms, or society itself, will always create problems for individuals because of the individuality of
each human being. This makes a perfect model impossible. The next question is why? Why do
people depend on validation from such an imperfect system when it only causes problems? Is there
any other type of worth that rewards more than systematic validation , perhaps capable of
connecting to the uniqueness of the individualon a personal level? Worth is more meaningful when
determined by the individual rather than by a system because true worth comes from within, as
opposed to that of the fickle outside world. Self worth can often be described as the sense of an
individual s value as a person. Its importance relates to the key question everyone asks themselves:
what s the purpose of life? Self worth sometimes stresses people to choose whatever decisions they
make. In Fahrenheit 451, although Bradbury shows a bipolarity in Guy s personality, Guy
ultimately demonstrates this free will after a revelation of what

Wireless Networking And Its Impact On The World
In 2016, the majority of networking is done wirelessly. Advancements in technology over the
past ten to fifteen years has allowed us to network wirelessly anywhere in the world. There are
remote areas in the world that do not allow wireless networking due to resources being
unavailable, at least for now. The world of networking is continuously growing. I would predict
that with initiatives such as Facebook s WiFi Drone, WiFi will be available everywhere in the
world no matter your location. The term WiFi is a trademark of the WiFi alliance, a trade
association who promotes LAN technologies and certifies products. The term WiFi was adopted
in 1999 as a branding term. It is an acronym for wireless fidelity. Any device that has a stamp of
WiFi certification must meet the IEEE 802.11standards meaning that the devices capabilities are
compatible with other certified devices. In 1985, the FCC released what is known as the ISM
Band for unlicensed use. ISM or Industrial Scientific and Medical Band, is a radio band reserved
for all sorts of devices around the world that serve a purpose in the title s description. The ISM
reserved frequencies that are commonly used today such as 902 928 MHz or 2.4 2.5 GHz for
wireless use. Other devices that operate on this frequency such as microwaves, can interfere with
the traffic going across the same frequency. 902 928 MHz is only unlicensed by what the ITU or

Growing up, Zora Neale Hurston was surrounded by a religious and creative black culture.

Sugar Hill Gang Rapper s Delight
The first item I searched was a popular hip hop album Sugar Hill Gang Rapper s Delight. I
immediately noticed John Fryer had a more subjective way to selling this item. In the description,
he mentions where he purchased the record. Memories he had as a kid listening to SU radio
station during the early 80 s and the emotion it provoked. On the other hand, the eBay description
was very objective, offering only facts about said albumlacking personality, in turn, feeling cold.
Listing things to include the credits and company in which originally recorded what some call

with opinions and insight to his personality. The seller on eBay only offered hard facts nothing to

The Role Of The Hero In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The world is not perfect, things sometimes happen to good people. It would be nice if there was
a hero for every problem that ever occurred that was bad. Someone to save the day from things

man or woman that sweeps in and saves the day. Throughout history there has been countless

Health Disparities Among African American Infants
Introduction Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) also known as infant death rate, is the death of an infant
before his or her first birthday. Infant mortality is calculated, by the number of children who die
under a year of age divided by the number of live births that year. Infant mortality rate is very
important as it relates to the health of pregnant women, children and infants and it s associated with
maternal health, quality and access to medical care, socioeconomic conditions, and public health
practices. The most important purpose of this review is to examine and understand why African
American infants are disproportionately affected and the factors(Low birth weight, preterm birth
weight and very low birth weight and infant mortality)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among 42 reporting states during the years 2003 2005, Wisconsin had the second highest
African American infant mortality rate (IMR) at 16.4 deaths per live births. The city of
Milwaukee, which is home to over half (63%) of the African American population in Wisconsin,
experiences similar racial disparities. Between 2003 and 2007, Milwaukee infants were 3 times
more likely to die within the first year of life. These racial disparities have remained consistent
over the past 15 years. In 2007, the leading cause of African American deaths in Milwaukee was
disorders related to low birth weight and preterm birth. Researchers reported from 1993 to 2006,
African American women were 3 times more likely to have preterm birth and low birth weight than
white women (Wisconsin Medical Journal 2010 V. 109). Researchers investigated the connection
between racial disparities in infant mortality and education (an indicator of socioeconomic status).
Between 2002 and 2004, African American women with education beyond high school were still 3
times more likely than whites to experience an infant death. Another comparison revealed that
African Americans with education beyond high school were STILL twice as likely to experience
infant death as white women who did not graduate from high school. (Wisconsin Medical Journal
2010 V. 109)

Maxwell s Equation Essay
INTRODUCTION
Maxwell s Equations are a set of four mathematical equations that provides the foundation to the
largely abstract concepts of electricity and magnetism. They are a mathematical condensation of all
the basic rules, by which electricity and magnetism function. Refer to Figure 1 for the equations.
Although James Clerk Maxwell himself only contributed to the last equation, his contribution led
to one of the most important discoveries in the history of science. However, it wasn t until 25
years later that these equations were interpreted and used rightly by the rest of the world. On the
right is an image of Maxwell.
Maxwell s work as quoted by Einstein:
The formulation of Maxwell s equations is the most important event in physics since Newton s
time, not only because of their wealth of content, but also because they form a pattern for a new
type of law ... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The equation is actually incomplete, and valid only for a long straight wire. An example to prove
that it s incomplete is given below.
Suppose a pot is taken and the exterior surface is considered the enclosed surface mentioned in the
law, and the circumference of the bottom is considered to be the closed curve. When the equation
uses the term i , it actually means the current enclosed within the path, piercing through the surface.
If the pot were shaped in such a way that the wire carrying current ended inside the pot after
piercing through and coming out, current enclosed would be 0. This either means that dl and the
magnetic field are always perpendicular (cosine 90 = 0), or that the magnetic field itself is 0. Both
are impossible and there lies the contradiction.
MAXWELL S CORRECTION
Maxwell corrected the equation by adding another term to it. Considering the above example, there
is a change in electric field as the current pierces through one surface of the pot and goes out
through the other. This field can be expresses

Descriptive Essay On A Rooftop Trip
What is a clichГ© solution that people say when a person s level of stress is at an all time high?

is a person supposed to lay in a hammock when they can t relax enough to stop chewing their

experience didn t involve a park bench or a hammock, it did seem to melt away all my problems
like, well, magic. The idea of visiting a rooftop gardendid not sound overly exciting to me on that

blind (both as far as thoughts go and due to the fact that the sunlight was reflecting off my
glasses). When the doors swung open, I was instantly enthralled by the views around me.
Stepping out onto the rooftop patio and into the morning sun was refreshing and my senses were
overwhelmed by everything around me. I kneeled down to get a closer look at the plants and was
surprised to see just how many different plants could live in harmony in such a small space. Most

The Causes Behind The Atrocities Experienced During World...
When evaluating the causes behind the atrocities experienced during World War II, many reasons
for these events can be found in the conditions occurring beforehand. Beyond this, many of these
causes can be applicable contributions to each World War. In terms of cause, World War II can
be considered an inevitable continuation of the first World War. It erupted due to Hitler s extreme
desire for expansion and hostile foreign policy, war was immediately declared upon German
militarization of Poland. However, the expectation for global warfare had been longstanding
before Mussolini and Hitler came to power or Japan s assault upon China. Whereas the tensions

Moving further, Germans began challenging their current political structure, as a large majority of
civilians now rejected the seemingly weak authority of the Weimar Republic. With the decrease in
faith towards a strong democratic republic, a desire for a powerful nationalistic leader such as
Adolf Hitler arose. Hitler and the Nazi Party were able to quickly spread their own extremist
beliefs through the rising German nationalism. For instance, Hitler utilized the appeal of uniting all
Germans in Europe in a singular nation, then using this unification to strengthen German desire for
expansion and militarization. He desired the power colonize and control Eastern territories, an
establishment of complete power demonstrated previously by imperial powers such as Britain.
However, Hitler and the Nazis also maintained a sense of Aryan racial superiority, believing all
other races were inferior to the Germans, especially Jews. They called for a complete ethnic
cleansing, thus resulting in the Holocaust. As horrific as these beliefs were, they were made
possible through a remarkable faith in Hitler and the Nazi Party. The extremist actions taken within
Nazi Germany can be traced back to a desire for nationalism due to the results of the Treaty of
Versailles and diminishing of faith in a failing democratic system.

The Twentieth Century American Banking System
First, an overview of the Twentieth Century American Banking System. Banking regulations are
implanted to strengthen the banking sector and to eliminate bank panics. For example, the creation
of the Federal Reserve System in 1913 was largely a response to lessons learned in the Panic of
1907. Industry regulation and structure, risk management viz. moral hazard, adverse selection.
The Creation of the Federal Reserve System in 1913 marked the beginning of the modern era of
Banking in America. From 1864 until 1913, American banking was dominated by a federally
regulated system of the national banks. They alone were allowed issue currency, and the currency
notes they issued were printed by the federal government with uniform size and design. How much
currency a national bank could issue depended on its capital. Although, this system was an
improvement on the earlier period, in which banks issued their own notes with uniformity and no
regulation, the national bank regime still suffered numerous bank failures and major financial crises.
The financial and banking crisis of the Twentieth Century in America caused major concerns. The
main problem afflicting the system was that the money supply was not sufficiently responsive
meaning it was difficult to shift currency around the country to respond quickly to local economic
changes. Rumors that a bank had insufficient currency to satisfy demand for withdrawals would
quickly lead to a bank run. A bank run then will, set a panic

Turning my focus back to the church building, I noticed several Bolivians standing inside the

The girls were dressed in shorts and tank tops, and most of the boys just wore a pair of ragged

as well as a few other buildings.

Splendid Solution: Jonas Salk and the Conquest of Polio, much like the name suggests, is the story
of Jonas Salk and his great contribution to society with the polio vaccine. Kluger walks through
Jonas Salk s life starting with his father and mother, what they did, how they lived, and where
they were from. Kluger transitions into Salk s childhood and his serious nature. Kluger states:
Salk was...a serious boy, troubled by sometimes curious things. Rules seemed to grate him the
most. Not that he didn t expect a good rule when he came across one. (25). Kluger flows well
into talking about Salk s education, Salk meeting his wife, them getting married, and all places
that Salk worked in the different aspects of his life. Kluger does add bits and pieces of Basil O
Conner s and Franklin Delano Roosevelt s lives, in relation to polio and Jonas Salk s life at that
point in his career. Kluger goes into some detail about Salk s creation of the influenza vaccine, but
his main focus was on the polio vaccine. Salk used some of the techniques he learned from
creating the flu vaccine and applied them to the polio vaccine. Some of those techniques worked,
while others did not. Kluger goes into a lot of detail into Salk getting started working on the polio
vaccine and who funded his research. There was

Speech On Public Shaming
The immediacy and fast pace of the internet can be magical, but it can also become a nightmare
that ruins a person s life (Source C). The world believes that public humiliation is an effective
punishment, but it is overused and ineffective. Public shaming is a dire term due to its high usage.
Public shaming dates back to the 1500s. The Puritan society gave their people this type of
punishment, as seen in Source A, The Scarlet Letter. They hoped that the sinner would show God
their mercy. Now, in the 21st century, public shaming is still taking full effect because of social
media, such as Instagram and Facebook. The victims that could not escape public shame are
Monica Lewinsky, Justine Sacco, and Hester Prynne. If kids like Tyler Clementi get shamed to death
then public shaming is getting dire because the consequences impact a person socially,
professionally, and personally.
First, public shame affects people socially. Source A claims that: What do we talk of marks and
brands, whether on the bodice of her gown, or the flesh of her forehead? (Source A 36). This
quote was said at the beginning of The Scarlet Letter by one of the women outside the prison
when Hester was released from prison. The quote shows that the townspeople have branded Hester
for committing the sin of adultery and are shoving her away from society. This isolation from
society is also shown in a quote from Is the Internet a Mob without Consequences? (by Nick
Bilton). Source B notes that:

Media Impact On Immigration
Quetext
About FAQ Contact
The topic of immigration has been a focus of controversy throughout the entire international
community. Waves of immigration influx in nations have caused surges in nationalist tendencies
amongst political leaders and citizens alike. Fears of cultural erosion, resource exhaustion, and
economic struggle has shown nations that were once supportive and progressive in their actions
towards the acceptance of immigration have moved inward on themselves to protect themselves
from a culturally diverse world. The reason to review this document is to question and analyze its
attempt to explain and define the growth of nationalism in democratic countries, to be specific the
United Kingdom, and how these surges occur, as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end this document does take a unique approach in showing the extended reach and influence
the media has in shaping the outlooks of citizens on the world and society wither the events
illustrated directly affect the individual or not. The emphasis on how the media is creating a
progressive dilemma through the portrayal of increasing numbers of immigrants into the nation and
the threats this influx has on the cultural stability and longevity of the nation explains how the
citizens of the nation, wither directly affected by immigration or not, move towards a more
protectionist and nationalist state of mind in order to promote the conservation of the nation s
ethnic culture. The act of addressing the problems with public opinion when not provided with
all of the facts, but only certain facts, does show its colors and makes for a strong topic to be
discussed and addressed in further literature due to being only lightly addressed here. Being that
the biggest problem with this paper is the fact that there was such a small and focused group of
individuals polled, and no others, it would be best that future research into this matter should
contain a broader range of data, while still focusing on the central topic of how perceived effects of
immigration cause growth in nationalist and

The Assigned Portrait By Anthony Van Dyck
The assigned portrait is a work by Anthony van Dyck that dates back to 1621, presumably
finished before the artist left his native city of Antwerp for Italy (Genua). From the title, we
gather that Van Dyck is depicting a family of three. The father is sat on the right, while the
mother is sat on the left; they are both facing the viewer. Their young child is positioned on the
mother s lap, its head turned towards the father. The colour scheme includes rich, dark colours for
the attire of the couple, a vibrant red colour for the drapery behind the mother and similar shades
of dark green for the mother s skirt, the child s skirt and the velvet fabric on the furniture

oddly familiar. That is because they are much more similar to the characteristics of the father in
the portrait The Family of Cornelis de Vos (1584/5 1651), also by Van Dyck. In addition to the
facial features, Van Dyck diligently portrayed the fine lace ruff and sleeves of the man s attire and
the tightly starched ruff of the woman (The State Hermitage Museum, Family Portrait ) in both
portraits, pairing those with delicate hand gestures, present in both paintings. To boot, Van Dyck
used the same landscape art as a background for the father s head and the same deep red coloured
blinds behind the mother. The colour schemes and even the golden button details and the wooden
handle on the furniture where the mother is sat are alike, too. Given these similarities (and the fact
that de Vos painted a portrait of his own family during the same period), it might be possible that
the family in the portrait is actually that of Cornelis de Vos. (Dickinson, Sir Anthony Van Dyck)
Since we know that Magdalena, the youngest daughter of de Vos was born in 1619, it is possible
that the family portrait below was painted in 1620 and our case study was actually painted

Child Labor And The Combination Act Of 1799
In the year 1760, the Enclosure Acts, which allowed landlords to enclose common land, forced
many farmers out of work, thus making them and their relatives to work in the early factories and
coal mines. The influx of workers combined with the first steam engines and the economic concepts
of industrial capitalism allowed for factories to have cheap, efficient, and easily replaceable manual
labor. This encouraged the factoryowners to overwork and abuse their workers, as the workers could
not afford to lose their jobs. However, when workers began to form unions in order to stop this
cruelty, the English government enacted the Combination Acts in 1799 which forbid workers from
creating trade unions in opposition of the harsh conditions. Although... Show more content on

during the reform period, in which the conditions at the factories had begun to improve
significantly. The pre reform era, on the other hand, was when the factories were able to abuse and
ignore their workers due to lack of regulation. In fact, the Combination Acts specifically forced the
workers to endure whatever conditions they faced, encouraging the factory owners to mistreat the
workers even more. In his account of his inspection of a textile mill, Dr. Ward stated that Cotton
factories are highly unfavourable, both to the health and morals of those employed in them and that

a) Using the data in Table 1, specify a linear functional form for the demand for Combination 1
meals, and run a regression to estimate the demand for Combo 1 meals.
According to the passage, we know that the Quantity of meals sold by Combination (Q) is related
to the average price charged (P) and the dollar amount spent on newspaper ads for each week in
1998(A). The price will influence the quantity of demand with inverse relation, and ads may lead to

We can have strong confident to conclude that P and A variable has some correlation with Q.
However, the Adjusted R square equals to 0.2337, which is not every large. That is to say, P and A
are able to explain only 23.37% changes of quantity of demand.
d) Discuss how the estimation of demand might be improved.
From Part C, we find that the adjusted R square is not very high. So we should increase the adjusted
R square by increasing number of variables. We believe that the estimation of demand might be
improved, if we can collect more information about competitors, including their price, advertising,
product improvement, etc. And the population of tourists can be consideration, even though the
permanent population didn t change obviously.
e) Using your estimated demand equation, calculate an own price elasticity and an advertising
elasticity. Compute the elasticity values at the sample mean values of the data in Table 1.
Discuss, in quantitative terms, the meaning of each elasticity.
When Mean of P=4, Mean of A=10009, then Qd= 100626.05 16392.65P +1.58A=50869.67
Own price elasticity = 16392.65*4/50869.67= 1.289 Advertising elasticity=1.58*10009

The own price elasticity is 1.289, which means that if the price goes up $1, the quantity will go

Pride And Prejudice
The name of the book I have written my book report is Pride and Prejudice by the author Jane
Austen. The book was written in England between 1796 and 1813 when it was first published.
Pride and Prejudice is about how young people from different classes fall in love and break all
social norms by marrying each other. The story takes place in the late 18th century or the
beginning of the 19th century in the English countryside. Mainly in Hertfordshire near the
village Meryton where the Bennet family lives. The length of the period that the story takes
place is well over a year. In England, at the time when the story takes place, there is a great class
division. This class division is a key point in the book and all the problems are caused by it. In
the beginning of the story Mrs. Bennet gets new of a wealthy gentleman named Mr. Bingley is
moving to town. She gets very excited by these news and is eager to introduce her daughters to
this man. At a dance Mr. Bingley dances multiple times with Jane Bennet, the oldest daughter,

Mosasaur Evolution
The dominant oceanic species of the Cretaceous period was the reptilian predator, the Mosasaur.
The Tyrannosaurus Rex of oceanic fauna was a 56 foot behemoth. While there is some debate
between experts about the mosasaur s place in the pecking order of the cretaceous period, it is
fairly well accepted that mosasaurs were in general dominant to the sharks of the same period.
This is the accepted truth because mosasaurs averaged a greater size then the sharks of the time.
There are obviously a few violators of this size disparity but the mosasaur is still believed to have
been dominant. The mosasaur is generally described as being a bit like a cross between a giant

I want to finish up by talking about why we love mosasaur. Mosasaur is the sexy marine reptile
species. It was massive, it was predatory, and it was dominant. These are all things that we, as
human beings, love. We love to look at a giant like mosasaur and imagine how terrifying it must
truly have been in life. Unfortunately because of our love for mosasaur and the reasons we love
him, we tend to make it into more than it truly was. For instance in the popular movie Jurassic
World we see a gigantic mosasaurus leap out of the water like an orca to devour a shark. That is just
not accurate. Mosasaurus was far too large to propel itself out of the water like that. Moreover
the mosasaur depicted in Jurassic World was incredibly more gigantic than mosasaur actually
was. Misrepresentation like this has led to mosasaur having a larger than life image to live up
to. To give you an idea of how large Jurassic World s mosasaur was in comparison to actual
mosasaur I have attached Figure 3 on page 6. Another reason that we love mosasaur so much is
that we know a lot about it. The fossil record that exists for mosasaurus is pretty large because of
the sheer number of mosasaurs that existed when they were dominant. There are thousands of
remains that have been found. The first mosasaur skeleton was found in the Netherlands before any
dinosaur remains had been discovered. The discovery of the mosasaur led to a new age of

reduction is to be 15% below 1990 levels by 2020, 37% below 1990 levels by 2030 and 80% below
1990 levels by 2050.
Other Jurisdictions
CAP and Trade is a cost effective method for reducing emissions. The world s largest
implementation of Greenhouse gas trading system is the European Union Emissions Trading
System (EU ETS) and they have been environmentally ineffective. The result of price crash non
stability in California and Quebec are also environmentally ineffective. In 2016, the emphasis
was on EU ETS s fourth phase (2021 2030) which was what the European Commission,
presented changes for. The purpose of the presented changes is to bring the cap into line with the
EU s 2030 objective, reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions to at least 40% nationally by 2030. The
EU provides a better goal of free allocation rules and further supports low carbon innovation and
energy sector transformation. To meet the legal requirements and to compensate for excess
pollution EU ETS should reduce GHG emissions, and buy emission allowances in the carbon
market. They could also reduce GHG emissions

Government Of Indonesia Has Issued A New National Energy...
33.4National Energy Policy
Government of Indonesia has issued a new National Energy Policy (NEP) as stipulated in
Government Regulation No. 79/2014. This NEP replaced the old NEP 2006, regulated in
Presidential Regulation No. 5/2006. Apart from the mechanism of policy formulation, basically
this NEP continues the implementation of Old NEP 2006 with additional some focus and more
detail of policy. This following diagram describe the evolution of NEP in Indonesia.
Figure....(Source Bappenas, 2012 Keselarasan KEN ...)
NEP 2014 mandated minimum of 23 percent of new and renewable energy (NRE) utilization in
national energy mix in 2025 and 31% in 2050. This ambitious target is expected to boost the
development of NRE as well as reducing greenhouse gases emission and promoting local NRE
utilization in remote and isolated area.
NEP 2014 also targets the electrification ratio to reach 100% in 2025. This means electricity can
be accessed by all population nationwide. Electricity generation capacity is planned to reach
about 115 GW by 2025 and 430 GW by 2050. The NEP mandated also Indonesia energy
consumption per capita in 2025 to reach about 1.4 TOE/capita (10.07 BOE/capita) in 2025 and
3.2 TOE/capita (23.02 BOE/capita) in 2050. This following diagram summarized the target on
NEP 2014. In short term period, Bappenas has internalized the policy in Mid Term National
Development Planning 2014 2019 (RPJMN). The plan consider energy as one of the most
prioritized sector in term of

Solubility Advantages And Disadvantages Of Lubricants In...
Lubricants
Lubricants as the name suggest, reduce friction between powder mix and the die walls during
compression and ejection. They also prevents the mixed powders/ granules from sticking to the
processing zone of the tablet press especially the punches and die. In some cases, lubricants reduce
inter particulate friction and thus, improve flow rates of powders or granules. The best lubricants
are those with low shear strength but strong cohesive tendencies perpendicular to the line of shear.
Lubricants can be classified based on their solubility characteristics into
Soluble lubricants e.g., Polyethylene glycol (PEG), Polyoxyethylene stearates, and Lauryl sulphate
salts.
Insoluble lubricants e.g., Magnesium stearate, glyceryl behenate, ... Show more content on

They may also increase the aqueous solubility of poorly soluble drug substance in the
gastrointestinal tract and, as a result, the rate of dissolution of the active agent will increase. It
should be noted that the surfactants should not interact with the drug substance as this may affect
the dissolution rate of the drug substance. Example of surfactant include sodium lauryl sulphate
(One of the most popular surface active agent that improves the wetting properties of hydrophobic
tablets), Cetylpyridine chloride, glyceryl monooleate etc.
Conclusion
Excipients are essential in the formulation of tablet dosage forms as it ensures successful
manufacturing process and quality of the resultant formulation. Proper selection of excipients and
their relative concentrations in the formulation is important in development of a successful
pharmaceutical formulation. Although excipient are often categorized as inert, preformulation
studies can help determine how these excipient influence the stability, bioavailability, and
processability of the dosage forms.
The need for acquiring more information and use standards for excipients has been recognized in a
joint venture of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Council of the Pharmaceutical
Society of Great Britain. The result is called the Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients. This
reference work is now distributed widely throughout the world.

Bloody Hell Rhetorical Analysis
It is evidently true that human beings communicate through more than one medium. When
communicating people express ideas as well as emotions through facial expressions, tone and pitch,
and gestures, which are non verbal languages know as body language. Body language comprise of
our non verbal communication or kinesics, and just like the verbal communication, it is a part of our
culture (Zhou, Zhang, 2008). Gestures are conveyed through the use of our body, mainly through
the movements of our hands and head. All around the world, people use gestures when they
communicate, but what the gestures mean totally depends on the speaker s culture, because just
like verbal languages, non verbal languages, such as gestures are not universal (Archer,... Show

Though the word bloody and hell are used separately in both Australian English and British
English, the phrase bloody hell has different meaning and usage in Australian culture and British
culture. The phrase does not have the same cultural meaning and usage, in other words, it does not
have a universal meaning, thus it became a controversial issue and as a result, the British broadcast
administration had to ban the commercial because bloody hell was thought to be a crude word.
Many Australians would not consider the phrase bloody hell an obscenity, for example Australian
25th Prime Minister John Howard believes that bloody hell has become part of the Australian
vernacular (Winter, Gallon, 2008, p. 303). This shows that there is an intercultural difference, in
this context of politeness, between variants of English since majority of the British see it as an
obscenity phrase, where as most Australians who use the phrase in normal conversations consider it

Imaging Modalities Essay
Introduction In the medical world, there are several imaging modalities that are being used in
order to diagnose various pathologies. This research paper will talk about some of these different
imaging ways, as well as how an MRI functions in detail. Nuclear medicine. Edward Williams, BS,
AAS, CNMT of McLaren Greater Lansing spoke to the class and described general details
regarding nuclear medicine. Nuclear medicine is an imaging modality that includes both anatomy
and physiology by delivering various radioactive materials to the patient. The materials react within
the patient and their activity is monitored by the technologist. The patient is injected with
radioactive isotopes such as Tc 99m, TI 201, I 123 and I 131. Adverse reactions to
radiopharmaceuticals are not very common, although common safety protocols must be adhered to.
After the injection, the patient lays on the table that has imaging cameras placed above and below
the table. (Williams, 2017). Mammography. Katrina Lynn Steinsultz, BS, RT(R)(M) of LCC spoke
in the class regarding this modality. Mammography includes the imaging of the breast tissue of
women and even men. There are four different breast tissues that exist within the breast: granular
tissue, fatty tissue, connective tissues, and ducts. Different compression paddles are used for
different exams, depending on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The powerful magnets are a great concern when it comes to anything metal that may be inside or
outside of the patient s body. The magnetic field of the MRI scanner can also pull on any metal

style) medical implants may heat up during the scan as a result of the technology (radiofrequency

Did country, blues and jazz evolve stylishly
It Is difficult to define what exactly music is in today s standards you can quite easily offend anyone.
However, there Is truth behind the fact that music is constantly changing as when it changed
decades leading up to the age of rock, soul and hip hop influencing genres. In ten years time, there
will potentially be different music.
However the discussion I will discuss is styles of country, blues and jazz and how it evolved.
Honky Tonk
The key Artists for Hony tonk are Hank Williams, Webb Piece, Lefy Frizzell and Hank Thompson

Bebop
Bebop emerged in the 1940s carrying on from the popular sub genre Big Band. However, it was
very different in style from its predecessor it usually consisted of around four to six musicians
Bebop was seen as something you could not dance to using complicated melody s and chord
progressions the vocal style was called scat where unrecognisable syllables are sung to improvise
the melody.

Exrna Essay
Aim 2 is to test the hypothesis that exRNA produced by Cn during host infection of the CNS is a
detectable molecular biomarker for cryptococcal infection. It is well known that physiological
differences exist between pathogens grown during in vitro versus in vivo conditions. In Cn,
differences exist in the production of virulence factors such as melanin and capsule in the
laboratory under nutrient rich conditions compared to tissue culture medium and in the host.
Furthermore, these physiological differences affect the organism s sensitivity to antifungal drugs,
and are also likely to affect production of biomarkers such as exRNAs [29]. A significant body of
data is emerging that indicates an abundance of (EVs) exosomes containing exRNA... Show more

Furthermore, macrophages infected with Leishmania spp. release exosomes that target gene
expression in other macrophages [44]. Trypanosoma cruzii infected cell types such as lymphocytes,
monocytes and erythrocytes release microvesicles expressing TGF пЃўthat helps mediate parasite
invasion of host tissues [45]. Given the mounting evidence pertaining to EV release by infected
host cells, we are confident that we will be able to detect fungal derived EVs released by infected
macrophages in vitro.
J774A.1 cells of the appropriate passage stage will be collected, counted, assessed for viability and
seeded into flasks to grow overnight. Cells will be treated with stimulating medium containing 50 U

The Juvenile Justice System
This article discussed diversion programs that are used to help adolescents who have been arrested
for first time misdemeanors. These diversion programs use group counseling as a mandatory
component of sentencing demonstrate initial success in reducing recidivism rates in national
outcome studies. The goal of these diversion programs are to keep adolescents out of the juvenile
justice system whenever possible (Lipsey, Howell, Kelly, Chapman, Carver, 2010). These diversion
programs divert adolescents from entering the juvenile justice system and offer alternatives to
formal disciplinary action. Teen courts (also called Youth Courts) are a growing type of diversion
program that utilize a therapeutic approach, with over 1,050 teen youth courts currently operating
in the United States. They are designed to promote restorative justice, encouraging the youth to
restore the damages his or her behaviors caused to the community. Teen courts have the flexibility to
incorporate essential life skills that are tailored to adolescents developmental needs. These groups
sessions are within one year of time and members have to complete six to eight of the sessions.
These sessions include: the introduction, communication styles, goal setting, career development,
anger management skills, healthy relationships, wellness and termination. Counseling Group
Framework The philosophy of the group counseling approach is to focus on the strengths and life
skills opposed to punitive measures

Informative Speech On Pickles
While pickles may have been rumored to cause stomach cancers and cases of high blood sugar,
in the long run, pickles could be what is keeping you up and running. To understand how pickels
effect you, you have to understand where they came from. The green goddesses date back about
4,030 years ago and are believed to have originated from India. Pickles go way back, so why are
people just now being concerned about eating them? Personally I believe that pickles have many
healthbenefits such as giving you a good source of antioxidants, improves hemoglobin levels in
diabetics, helps to protect your liver for liver cancer, and by reducing ulcers so, in a long run they
could be good for you. Pickles are very salty because they are made by emerging cucumbers... Show

Many people believe pickles are bad for you because of the high salt levels that can lead to
stomach cancer. Stomach cancer can have many causes though such as smoking or eating a diet
with a lot of salt. Pickles have not been directly linked to causing stomach cancer. Although just like
any other food, as long as you eat pickles in moderation it shouldn t hurt you. The history of
pickles is a little unknown they were mentioned in the bible twice and it s rumored that George
Washington had a collection with 476 different types of pickles. The tradition of pickling begin
in the Tigris Valley in India. History sets their usage to over 3,000 years ago in western Asia,
Egypt and Greece. In the 14th century it was noted that Queen Elizabeth was fond of the
common snack. Shakespeare also was one of the first people to use pickle as a metaphor .
Pickling in Canada goes back to about 1535 while pickling in America goes back to about 1606.

Research Paper On San Andreas Fault
The San Andreas Fault is a geologic fault zone between two tectonic plates that runs from San
Francisco south to San Diego in California. It is an area of frequent earthquakes caused by the
plates sliding past each other. It is so called because it runs along the San Andreas Valley. The San
Andreas fault was brought dramatically to world attention in 1906 when sudden displacement along
the fault produced the great San Francisco earthquake and fire. This earthquake was but one of
many that have resulted throughout its life of about 15 20 million years. The entire San Andreas
faultsystem is more than 800 miles long and extends to depths of at least 10 miles within the
Earth. The fault is a complex zone of crushed and broken rock from a few hundred feet to a mile
wide. Many smaller faults branch from and join the San Andreas fault zone. The Pacific plate is
moving northwest in relation to the North American plate, and it is believed that the total
displacement along the fault since its formation more than 30 million years ago has been about
350 mi. Movement along the fault causes earthquakes several thousand occur annually. The earth
moves side to side from time to time because its outer shell is broken into huge, solid plates
floating on a layer of molten rock that has the consistency of slime. These tectonic plates are
constantly jostling each other, like rafts crowded into a small pond, and its along the boundaries
where they meet that most quakes are born. The two plates

New Zealand Foreign Policy
Within two days, Prime Minister Peter Fraser responded with a cable that transformed the
trajectory of New Zealand s foreign policy. The cable is not published in full, however, the
published extracts reveal that Fraser emphasised the deterioration in the Pacific theatre and the fact
that His Majesty s Government... do not perhaps fully understand the point of view that is being
forced by circumstances upon the Government and peoples of New Zealand. Further, the cable
speaks of an intention to establish the closest possible relations with the US, while always having
regard to New Zealand s primary connection with the British Commonwealth. In making his
position clear, Fraser proposed that the New Zealand government send to Washington a Minister
of the Crown on special mission . The importance of this cable as a whole, particularly the final
proposal, cannot be understated and is exemplified by the regard afforded to it by historians. Wood
refers to this cable as the most important single document in the formation of New Zealand foreign
policy. McIntyre speaks of this moment as when the phase of dual dependency began .
Lissington looks at this proposal as a new phase in New Zealand s foreign policy . The reason
for its remarkable significance is that it was the first time New Zealand looked beyond Britain for
a formal security alliance. It must be recognised that New Zealand had not yet formally severed its
ties with Britain, had no overseas missions outside

My Presidential Election For President Of The United States
As we near the next presidential election for the United States I see names such as Donald Trump
and Bernie Sanders running to lead our country. With the amount of candidates running for the next
presidential term, I often wonder what it takes to throw one s hat in the ring, and the steps they
have to take to get into office. Are there any restrictions, age limits, financial obligations one must
meet before going through the long road to presidency? Before announcing to run for President of
the United States, specific requirements must be met. First, the age requirement is to be at least
35 years old. The second requirement is that you must be a born citizen of the United States, and
lastly would have to live in the country for the past 14 consecutive years prior to running for
President. Now, if one meets those requirements they could run for President. It would probably be
a smart idea, although not required, to have previous education, political experience and financial
backing before you decided to run. So now that the requirements have been met, it is time to get to
work. While we do have many different parties that can run for President I will focus on the 2 major
political parties, Republicans and Democrats. Third party candidates would consist of Independent,
Constitution, Green, Libertarian and Reform Parties. In this example I would be announcing my
intentions to run for President of the United States as a Democrat. The first thing that I would need

  • 2. Reality Versus Perception in the Kasdan Films, Grand... Reality Versus Perception in the Kasdan Films, Grand Canyon and Mumford All of knowledge is founded on axioms: assumptions that are agreed upon for stability. However, since those axioms are assumptions and cannot be proven without a doubt, nothing ca truly be known with absolute certainly. Still, in order to carry on with life, assumptions have to be made. Knowing this, the task becomes making assumption that are more educated and, given the lack of certainty, ones that matter. Furthermore, the assumption of others can be examined more accurately with this knowledge in mind. The most important of these assumptions, and in many cases points of debate, is the nature of reality. The old world thought the matters of the spirit to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The interlacing strands of themes in both films are much like those of time. Each event triggers another in a continuum of interrelationships between factors of co and counter stimulus. The following exposition focuses on articulating how those films portray the endeavor to determine, if not true reality, then certainly some forms of realities. More specifically, attention will be drawn to the variable perception of these realities in Grand Canyon, and the notion of reality being variable in the first place from a look at Mumford. A number of events occur within Grand Canyon, which are interpreted differently by different characters. In the beginning Mac is being harassed by a gang and thus gets, in a manner of speaking, saved from a worse fate by Simon. Mac believes this to be some sort of blessing or even divine intervention. Though if not, he certainly attributes some greater force than random occurrence to the favorable turn of events. Mac and Simon s conversation following the incident shows that Simon may have a more rationally slanted perspective. Simon s telling of a story about the shark illustrates that Mac s meeting of the gang is a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that these things happen as a way of the way things are. Though Simon does question whether or not it is the way things are supposed to be. Later in the story, the money minded movie producer Davis gets shot. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Paul Laurence Dunbar Sympathy Summary All beings require a degree of freedom to truly live, as such, caged animals are often subjected to a life subpar to truly living. Consequently, this rule applies to humans as well, and unfortunately enough, most humans in our era fail to live. In the poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar, Dunbar seeks to explore this sullen connection with the speaker and a caged animal feels by utilizing repetition and metaphor. The first stanza begins with the primary metaphor of the caged bird. In this line, the speaker states that he knows what the caged bird feels (line 1). Under the assumption that the speaker, like most people, cannot speak to animals, his understanding of the bird s feelings must come from inference from observation. Dunbar goes onto depict a beautiful landscape of the birds natural habitat. However, the feelings of the depiction are clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bird s mania manifests in vain attempts on breaking the bars of his cage with his body. Beating its body against the bars until he bleeds red, (line 9) the bird would almost prefer death to this life if it were not for the vague prospect of release. Towards the end of the stanza, the tale of the caged bird thickens as his old scars... pulse... with a keener sting (line 12 13). This line shows that the bird is not simply trying to fly away without understanding the limits of the change, the bird seems to represent the spirit of a stallion rejecting the enforced domestication of its captors. The last stanza summarizes the predicament of the cage bird, and the odd act which the caged bird commits, the caged bird sings (line 15). However, singing often represents joy Dunbar clarifies that this singing is in prayer. After beating himself against the bars he resigns his broken body to sing and pray for success, reaching to a higher power for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Persuasive Freedom Of Speech Content generated by the media is vastly changing with time. Alongside, how the audience wishes to view content is changing as well. In the earlier times, only televisions and radios were used to transfer information. Nowadays, new platforms and websites are using different techniques to deliver content to their respective audience. On Netflix Nobody Speak, by Brian Knappenberger is one of the many information and knowledge packed documentary, that redefines the way viewers learn about the different meanings of certain phrases. One of the ways is freedom of speech, which enables individuals to express ideas and thoughts candidly. Different audience group will acknowledge different purposes to freedom of speech. Even though civilians hold the right to freedom of speech, it can also come with deadly consequences. The expression in the documentary holds a cruel and degrading meaning, even so, other reasons such as the rights of privacymight outweigh the separate statement. The case between Terry Bolea and Gawker refines how different audience ponders about the meaning freedom of speech. Expressing how freedom of speech and technology was misused to degrade one of the most renowned celebrities named Hulk Hogan, known initially as Terry Bolea. Firstly, no kind of authority should obtain the power to interrogate or expose another person s private life to the media. The quote, Freedom of information clashes with people s right to privacy on a political government level, which is usually constrained, (Mass Communication in Canada, p.38), states that freedom of speech is limited and should not break certain rules. Considering celebrities are role models, that does not make them perfect human beings. Gawker.com a self opinionated website, developed to publicize atrocious or embarrassing footage about contrastive celebrities; uses freedom of speech as ammo to release footage that could potentially ruin a person s standard and career. From the film, witnessing that Hulk Hogan s private life was in jeopardy by the power of freedom of speech that Gawker.com perceives to hold. Fundamentally, freedom of speech considering a characteristic of the public sphere, but it is limited to certain morals and guideline. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Human Development and the Importance of Wind Energy... Human Development and the Importance of Wind Energy Conversion For human development to continue, we will ultimately need to find sources of renewable or virtually inexhaustible energy. It s difficult to imagine this, but even if we find several hundred or even thousand years of coal and natural gas supplies, what will humans do for the next 250,000 years or so after they are depleted? Even the most apparently inexhaustible sources like fusion involve the generation of large amounts of waste heat enough to place damaging stress on even a robust ecosystem like Earth s, at least for the organisms that depend upon stability of the system to survive. We are engaged in a sort of world wide biological experiment, with our descendents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are blissfully sedated by low conventional energy prices and are gulping down the few remaining years of cheap natural gas and Mid East oil. As we do this, the inertia of global warming is inexorably building. What drives the continued development of mechanical devices like wind turbines in the face of this widespread lack of support? In the case of wind turbine technology, I suspect that part of the reason for persistence of this vision is how accessible wind turbines are to the understanding. They are personal in a way that almost no other form of power generation is. This personal scale has been both the blessing and the curse of wind power development. The field tends to attract people who are committed, creative, and passionate. It also attracts a few people who are a little too much of all of those things, to the point that sometimes the grounding of reality is lost. Both of these tendencies will be evident in this brief history of wind power development. Wind power will probably succeed or fail based on the ability or inability of its proponents to bank the fires of Romance and focus on defining wind generation s role as a practical alternative to conventional generation sources. Wind energy conversion is a fascinating field to study, if only because its past has been so checkered and its exact future is so uncertain. New entrants into the job market face a very competitive environment and training (or re training) for jobs is frequently expensive and time consuming. Therefore there is a definite need to make one s career decisions using a comprehensive, formal analysis in order to promote a successful and satisfying career choice. Background information was gathered by a search of peer reviewed articles from governmental and professional journal sources in the literature. These articles provided several important variables to be considered in the methodology, including: (a) candidate gender; (b) candidate ethnicity; (c) educational level; (d) physical demands; (e) mental/analytical demands; (f) pathways to advancement; and (g) employment outlook. These decision variables are identified for each potential career choice and then compared and contrasted between the career options. People who enter their kids in these events don t think to consider the consequences that result from pageantlifestyle. By incorporating strategies of ethos, pathos, and logos, he is able to make an effective point of argument to persuade the audience. But it did find that the former pageant girls scored significantly higher on body dissatisfaction, interpersonal distrust, and impulse dysregulation (Hollandsworth 7). Things can get hectic when a company has a lot of requirements to be met. In order for any organization to run accordingly, they must have a schedule that helps them to meet deadlines and stay organized. The Human Resources Department keeps records of what needs to be done, however, have put aside the task of making their records an actual thing to see and understand. From the beginning of this projectmy goal was to take their saved data and create a visualized calendar that is user friendly for the service center. • 13. Systematic Worth In Fahrenheit 451 Systematic Worth: How Society Has Caused Imperfection by Reaching for Perfection No one knows you better than you know yourself. This fabled quote implies a sense of of self awareness for an individual, and in a way, it passively rejects the societal norms and outside judgements towards that individual. However, the world seeks a systematic approach to determining the capability and worth of individuals. This system, whether imposed by the government, social norms, or society itself, will always create problems for individuals because of the individuality of each human being. This makes a perfect model impossible. The next question is why? Why do people depend on validation from such an imperfect system when it only causes problems? Is there any other type of worth that rewards more than systematic validation , perhaps capable of connecting to the uniqueness of the individualon a personal level? Worth is more meaningful when determined by the individual rather than by a system because true worth comes from within, as opposed to that of the fickle outside world. Self worth can often be described as the sense of an individual s value as a person. Its importance relates to the key question everyone asks themselves: what s the purpose of life? Self worth sometimes stresses people to choose whatever decisions they make. Infant mortality rate is very important as it relates to the health of pregnant women, children and infants and it s associated with maternal health, quality and access to medical care, socioeconomic conditions, and public health practices. Between 2003 and 2007, Milwaukee infants were 3 times more likely to die within the first year of life. These racial disparities have remained consistent over the past 15 years. The world believes that public humiliation is an effective punishment, but it is overused and ineffective. Public shaming is a dire term due to its high usage. Public shaming dates back to the 1500s. The Puritan society gave their people this type of punishment, as seen in Source A, The Scarlet Letter. They hoped that the sinner would show God their mercy. Now, in the 21st century, public shaming is still taking full effect because of social media, such as Instagram and Facebook. The victims that could not escape public shame are Monica Lewinsky, Justine Sacco, and Hester Prynne. If kids like Tyler Clementi get shamed to death then public shaming is getting dire because the consequences impact a person socially, professionally, and personally. From the title, we gather that Van Dyck is depicting a family of three. The father is sat on the right, while the mother is sat on the left; they are both facing the viewer. Their young child is positioned on the mother s lap, its head turned towards the father. The colour scheme includes rich, dark colours for the attire of the couple, a vibrant red colour for the drapery behind the mother and similar shades of dark green for the mother s skirt, the child s skirt and the velvet fabric on the furniture approximate to the child s skirt. Additionally, the inset of the mother s dress... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bear little resemblance to other depictions of Wildens, whose satyr like characteristics and sharp glance are considered distinctive. However, the features of the father in our case study look oddly familiar. That is because they are much more similar to the characteristics of the father in the portrait The Family of Cornelis de Vos (1584/5 1651), also by Van Dyck. In addition to the facial features, Van Dyck diligently portrayed the fine lace ruff and sleeves of the man s attire and the tightly starched ruff of the woman (The State Hermitage Museum, Family Portrait ) in both portraits, pairing those with delicate hand gestures, present in both paintings. To boot, Van Dyck used the same landscape art as a background for the father s head and the same deep red coloured blinds behind the mother. The colour schemes and even the golden button details and the wooden handle on the furniture where the mother is sat are alike, too. Given these similarities (and the fact that de Vos painted a portrait of his own family during the same period), it might be possible that the family in the portrait is actually that of Cornelis de Vos. (Dickinson, Sir Anthony Van Dyck) Since we know that Magdalena, the youngest daughter of de Vos was born in 1619, it is possible that the family portrait below was painted in 1620 and our case study was actually painted ... Growing up as a child, my grandfather was much more than a grandfather, he was my best friend. He was always smiling, always energized, and always willing to help anyone with anything. Unfortunately, old agegets the best of us. As the years went on, his smile seemed to disappear, his energy diminished, and he was unable to help anyone anymore due to his physical condition. He was recently diagnosed with kyphosis of the neck and spinal stenosis. Kyphosis and spinal stenosis both decrease the function of your neck and spine. My grandfather used to be able to stand up straight, but now his back has almost curved at a ninety degree angle with his legs. Each time I visit my grandfather, it pains me to see his condition get worse and worse. His pain feels like my pain. He attends physical therapyevery week and wears a back brace every day, but there is only so much that can be done. If a highly accredited doctor of physical therapy could barely help my grandfather, how could I? How could I allow myself to sit on the sidelines as my grandfather loses the ability to stand? Why did God allow for this to happen? These are the kinds of questions I ponder on a daily basis. However, last year I pondered different kinds of questions, the dreadful common app questions. • 33. Child Labor And The Combination Act Of 1799 In the year 1760, the Enclosure Acts, which allowed landlords to enclose common land, forced many farmers out of work, thus making them and their relatives to work in the early factories and coal mines. The influx of workers combined with the first steam engines and the economic concepts of industrial capitalism allowed for factories to have cheap, efficient, and easily replaceable manual labor. This encouraged the factoryowners to overwork and abuse their workers, as the workers could not afford to lose their jobs. In fact, the Combination Acts specifically forced the workers to endure whatever conditions they faced, encouraging the factory owners to mistreat the workers even more. The book was written in England between 1796 and 1813 when it was first published. Pride and Prejudice is about how young people from different classes fall in love and break all social norms by marrying each other. The story takes place in the late 18th century or the beginning of the 19th century in the English countryside. Mainly in Hertfordshire near the village Meryton where the Bennet family lives. The length of the period that the story takes place is well over a year. In England, at the time when the story takes place, there is a great class division. This class division is a key point in the book and all the problems are caused by it. In the beginning of the story Mrs. Bennet gets new of a wealthy gentleman named Mr. Bingley is moving to town. At a dance Mr. Bingley dances multiple times with Jane Bennet, the oldest daughter, and they grow very fond of each other. Mr. Bingley s sister and his friend Mr. Darcy is also at the dance. Unfortunately because of our love for mosasaur and the reasons we love him, we tend to make it into more than it truly was. For instance in the popular movie Jurassic World we see a gigantic mosasaurus leap out of the water like an orca to devour a shark. That is just not accurate. Mosasaurus was far too large to propel itself out of the water like that. Moreover the mosasaur depicted in Jurassic World was incredibly more gigantic than mosasaur actually was. Misrepresentation like this has led to mosasaur having a larger than life image to live up to. To give you an idea of how large Jurassic World s mosasaur was in comparison to actual mosasaur I have attached Figure 3 on page 6. The fossil record that exists for mosasaurus is pretty large because of the sheer number of mosasaurs that existed when they were dominant. There are thousands of remains that have been found.
