Flamingo Case Study
Student Description
Flamingo is a 6 year old, first grade male in a K 1 self contained class. In his class there are a total of
7 students with 5 adults (teacher, 2 teaching assistants, and 2 1:1 aids). Overall, Flamingo is a great
student that always tries his best. Even though he tries his best, sometimes he is too hard on himself as
he strives for perfectionism.
Critical Learning Needs and Objective Flamingo has been diagnosed as having a speech and language
disability, and his parents refused to have him labeled as autistic, even though he has difficulty with
processing and focusing. Besides helping Flamingo stay on task, he needs 1:1 support as he completes
his classwork. In regards to ELA, Flamingo is a strong reader, but has difficulty ... Show more content

When working with Flamingo, the graphic organizer allowed him to slow down, making him go back
into the text to find important details. This process had Flamingo rereading the text and putting it into
his own words. By doing this, Flamingo had a better understanding of what he was reading. At first, it
did seem that Flamingo had a hard time determining what details were important and what details
were just extra. However, after talking to him and walking through different examples, Flamingo did
start understanding the difference. Overall, this project was effective because Flamingos reading
comprehension improved. Next time, before giving Flamingo or another student this intervention, I
would first have a mini lesson on how to determine important details. This could be done by teaching
the students how to actively read their text by taking notes in the margins or on post it notes. By doing
this, hopefully the student will not feel overwhelmed by completing this task. In the future, it will be
important for Flamingo s teacher to continue this intervention but to introduce new graphic organizers
as well. Introducing different graphic organizers will be important because they all have different
purposes in regards to reading and writing. Finding different and appropriate graphic organizers will
allow Flamingo to be more specific and accurate when he does his

Theme Of Civilization In Lord Of The Flies
Loss of Civilization After a plane crash carrying a group of young British school boys, they are left to
survive without any adults and protect themselves from all the danger this island might create. In Lord
of the Flies by William Golding the boys at first try to make rules that relate to their civilization back
home. Early in the story, Roger can not adapt to the new way of life and is still trying remain civilized
like the other boys, but when there is a loss of order and fears of the island progress, he starts to move
away from civilization and does what needs to do to stay alive. Golding uses the symbols of rocks,
face paint, the character Roger to express the theme of loss of civilization in civilized boys who
become savage. Throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the boys were building sand castles on the beach, and Roger goes up to them and kicks the
sand castles down. To be even more annoying, Roger gathered a handful of stones and began to throw
them. Yet there was a space round Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he dare not throw
... Roger s arm was conditioned by civilization that knew nothing of him and was in ruins. (Golding
62). Even if Roger is already mean and annoying, he still at this point in the story can not throw rocks
to hurt someone because he is still civilized. Roger starts to turn into savagery fast. At this point in the
story all of the older boys except Piggy and Ralph are at the top of Castle Rock. They took Piggy s
glasses to start a fire, so Piggy goes up to Castle Rock to ask for them back: High overhead, Roger,
with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all of his weight on the lever ... The rock struck Piggy a
glancing blow from chin to knee (Golding 180 181). Roger has lost all of civilized that he killed
someone. Therefore Roger could not throw a rock to hurt someone when all civilization was lost he
could puck a boulder off to kill

The Characteristics Of The Seated Statue Of Hatshepsut
Seated Statue of Hatshepsut While examining the Seated Statue of Hatshepsut, initially, the first thing
one notices is the female figure of Egyptian pharaoh Hatshepsut. Although Hatshepsut is being shown
in a primarily male position, it does not take the attention away from her feminine face and petite,
graceful body. Over time, taking on the role of a pharaoh changed the perception the world had of who
Hatshepsut was. She went from being portrayed as the beautiful women seen in this artwork, to being
depicted as an unrecognizable male figure. When comparing the Seated Statue of Hatshepsut to other
statues of Hatshepsut created overtime, one would notice a dramatic difference. Despite the fact that
she is shown wearing the ceremonial attire of an egyptian king, (Museum Label Text, Seated Statue of
Hatshepsut) there is still a very strong sense of the figure being female. To further point out the female
traits of Hatshepsut in this statue, one would notice the rounded protruding chest that appears to be the
chest of a female. On the other hand, in later statues of Hatshepsut, one would notice that the chest is
much different. Her chest went from being round to being more square and flat, similar to those of a
man. Another significant difference is the size change between the statutes. In the seated statue of
Hatshepsut, she is very petite with small shoulders, thin arms, waist and legs. Hatshepsut is later
depicted as having very wide, broad shoulders and a muscular

The Way The Mop Flops Short Story
Problems we all have them. I just read 2 stories The way the mop flops and The choice. The thing is
they both have problems, but the question is which one is bigger. First, let s know what the problems
are. The characters names are Andrew, Kate, and Julie. Andrew feared of public speaking, and Kate
was jealous of Julie. Now which one is bigger? Personally, I think its Andrew that has the bigger
problem. Moving on, how did Andrews story begin. Mr. Taylor his teacher walks in and needs
someone to read. Andrew really didn t want to be picked but Ms. Taylor did. His knees where quaking
and he was sweating. Why? Because he was reading to the class. The paper said that each student had

U.s. Subprime Mortgage Crisis Essay
The U.S. subprime mortgage crisis was a set of events and conditions that led to the late 2000s
financial crisis, characterized by a rise in subprime mortgage delinquencies and foreclosures, and the
resulting decline of securities backed by said mortgages. After U.S. housing sales prices peaked in mid
2006 and began their steep decline, refinancing became more difficult. As adjustable rate mortgages
began to reset at higher interest rates, mortgage delinquencies soared. Securities backed with
mortgages, including subprime mortgages, widely held by financial firms, lost most of their value.
Global investors also drastically reduced purchases of mortgage backed debt and other securities as
part of a decline in the capacity and willingness of the private financial system to support lending.
Concerns about the soundness of U.S. credit and financial markets led to tightening credit around the
world and slowing economic growth in the U.S. and Europe.
The immediate cause or trigger of the crisis was the bursting of the United States housing bubble
which peaked in approximately 2005 2006. Caused by an increase in loan incentives such as easy
initial terms and a long term trend of rising housing prices had encouraged borrowers to assume
difficult mortgages in the belief they would be able to quickly refinance at more favorable terms. Once
interest rates began to rise and housing prices started to drop moderately in 2006 in many parts of the
U.S., refinancing became more difficult. As

Problems Faced By Doohickeys U Need And Their Human...
Introduction As a team, we have identified two additional problems that need to be addressed by
Doohickeys U Need and their Human Resource Manager. As a company, Doohickeys U Need, needs
to implement our recommendations to help protect the company from legal action. The issues we
would like to address in this report are as follows: 1. Layoffs and Dismissing Employees 2. Healthy
Work Environment Below are detailed accounts of each problem, with supporting evidence. The
corresponding explanations of our solutions follow each account. As a team, we developed these
solutions that if implemented, should assist Doohickeys U Need in eradicating the issues, and
establish a more productive and safe workplace environment. Problem #1: ... Show more content on

The HR Manager should design job descriptions with employee and supervisory input, listing job
responsibilities in descending order of time involved. These can be used in the hiring process as well,
in particular for the manufacturing jobs that have physical requirements such as the ability to lift 25
lbs . (The Case) Since job descriptions cannot possibly list every single task an employee may be
expected to perform in their work day, other duties as assigned or another descriptor for possible
additional duties should be included. Once accurate job descriptions are in place, performance reviews
should be instituted at Doohickeys U Need. We recommend that these take place quarterly, and that
they be a collaborative effort between supervisors and employees. Employees may be asked to
evaluate their own performance against the job description in place for their position, as well as future
goals for improvement and areas which the employee feels they most excel in. Both the supervisory
and employee evaluation will be placed in the employee personnel file. With accurate job descriptions
and performance evaluations on file, Human Resources will better be able to evaluate employee
performance and decide if discipline problems are part of an ongoing problem with an employee or if
they were a one off or perhaps even indicative of a failure in the system that points to a need for
further training or resources. Solution #2: Temporary/Seasonal

The Medici s Influence On The Renaissance Period
The Medici family, also known commonly as the house of the Medici was a wealthy merchant class
family who gained their wealth and political power through its success in commerce and banking.
With the rise to power of Cosimo de Medici in Florence, the city was launched into the Renaissance
period as the family s support of the arts and humanities were a big influence.
Until the late 14th century the leading family of Florence was the House of Albizzi. The main
challengers to the Albizzi family were the Medicis. The Medici controlled the Medici bank then
Europe s largest bank and an array of other enterprises in Florence and elsewhere. In 1433, the Albizzi
managed to have Cosimo, one of the Medici, exiled. However, a pro Medici leader was ... Show more

Giovanni was a cardinal and future pope who was able to return the Medici family name back to
Florence in 1512. The years to come marked a peak in Medici influence in Europe. Giovanni, as was
his father, was another big supporter of the arts and was able to provide artists with work.
By the 1520 s few descendants of Cosimo remained. However, the Medici remained masters of
Florence through their two famous 16th century popes, Leo X and Clement VII. Both were patrons of
the arts, but in the religious field they proved unable to advance the ideas of Martin Luther. Clement
married of his first cousin, Catherine de Medici, to Francis I of France, the future Henry II. Clement s
plan worked as it led to the Medici blood being transferred to the royal family of Spain.
In the 1500 s Ferdinando, part of the Medici bloodline, did much to keep the name of the Medici high
and in power. Ferdinando built a road networks in Southern Tuscany and cultivated trade in Leghorn
with the silk industry. Ferdinando even proposed a Tuscan expedition to the New World with the
intention of establishing a Tuscan colony. Ferdinando is thought to have been wealthier than their
ancestor, Cosimo de Medici, the father of the Medici dynasty.
Overall, the Medici family used themselves as chess pieces in a real life game for power and wealth.
Their lineage become more difficult to trace as time progresses due to the fact that they are marrying
themselves off to form alliances and

Sales Tax Holidays
As summer comes to an end back to school sales tax holidays are just around the corner. A sales tax
holiday is just what it implies, a short term exemption from state sales tax on products that would
normally be colected on. The fequency of sale tax holidays differs between states that are prompted by
different events but nearly all states have some sort of exemption holiday for consumers. So how can
your business prepare to correctly exempt certain products from sales tax? Activly preparing and
planning can reduce the amount of stress your business may exeperience during one of these
exemption weekends. By following the following 5 steps you can operate effectively where you
otherwise might not. Know What Is Tax Exempt Know not all items you sell will be tax exempt
during a sales tax holiday, what sales tax will apply depends on what jurisdiction you are in and what
guidelines your state has provided. It is essential that you research how your state is handleing it s sale

Social Control Theory Essay
The social control approach to understanding crime is one of the three major sociological perspectives
in contemporary criminology. Control theorists believe that conformity to the rules of society is
produced by socialization and maintained by ties to people and institutions to family members,
friends, schools, and jobs. Put briefly, crime and delinquency result when the individual s bond to
society is weak or broken. As social bonds increase in strength, the costs of crime to the individual
increase as well.
The intellectual roots of social control theory reach back several centuries, but it was not until the
middle of the 20th century that this theory began to generate broad interest among crime researchers.
Since then, it has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It assumes further that a primary cost of crime is the disapproval of the people about whom the
potential offender cares. To the extent that the potential offender cares about no one, he or she is free
to commit the crime in question. Sociologists often explain conformity as the result of such sensitivity.
Psychologists as often explain deviation as the result of insensitivity to the concerns of others.
Together, they tell us that sensitivity is a continuum and that some people have more than others and
some have less than others. This is the position adopted by control theorists. They focus on the extent
to which people are sensitive to the opinion of others and predict that this variable will predict rates of
crime and delinquency.
Sensitivity suggests feeling or emotion, and this element of the social bond indeed attempts to capture
the emotions (or lack thereof) involved in conformity and deviance. The words are many: affection,
love, concern, care, and respect, to name only some. Social control theorists use attachment as an
abstract summary of these concepts.
The evidence is clear that family attachments are strongly correlated with (non)delinquency. In their
famous book Unraveling Juvenile Delinquency, Sheldon and Eleanor Glueck (1950) indicated that,
according to their research, affection of the father and the mother for the child were two of the best
five predictors of delinquency.

Baton Rouge at night and seeing a distant flame I often wonder what it really was. I wonder how this
was affecting the community. How was this affecting our health? Upon doing research, I discovered it

quick form of communication which enables them to fulfill their social need of interaction. People at

in Schwartz 237). Before sending an e mail, a person can always review and rewrite it, thus positively
changing personal and public discourse.
Furthermore, e mail has positive impact on public discourse in that people can develop themselves by
communicating with other people. Newsgroups, another function of the internet, is able create a
community. People gathering in front of their computer and writing messages about a particular
subject exchange their knowledge and experience. If you have something to say about that topic, you e
mail your comment to a central computer, which then forwards it to everyone else on the list. If they
have something to add, they can either respond to you privately or send another message back to the
central computer (Parsons 250). Some people want to share what they know; others want to learn
about something or both just want to express their feelings and thoughts. These communities are just
like others. Parsons says, We grieved for a friend we d lost and knew that our little community had
been changed forever (253). E mail is also a very common form of communication among coworkers.
Leonard mentions For decades, programmers have used e mail to collaborate on projects. With
increasing frequency, this collaboration is accruing across company lines, and often without even the
spur of commercial incentives. (233). Such collaboration improves communication between

The Pros And Cons Of Globalization In Bolivia
Globalisation is, the process by which businesses or other organisations develop international
influence or start operating on an international scale. We have crossed a boundary with globalisation
that we can not revert. Our cultures have become so homogenised, with Mcdonalisation, wearing the
same brands like Nike and listening to Ed Sheeran no matter where we are in the world. It could be
said that it would be impossible to go back to a world before globalisation. However it also has to be
said that some nations such as Bolivia are rejecting globalisation and still remain a still remain a
global contender in global markets for example. It would be inaccurate to say that it would be
impossible to live in a world with no globalisation.

Evo Morales was elected president of Bolivia in 2006. He is a socialist leader and therefore rejects the
idea of globalisation, and though many experts argued this would hurt Bolivia economically, we now
know this is not the case. On his hundredth day in office, Bolivian President Evo Morales moved to
nationalise his nation s oil and gas reserves, ordering the military to occupy Bolivia s gas fields and
giving foreign investors a six month deadline to comply with demands or leave. Bolivia has grown
much faster over the last 8 years under President Evo Morales than in any period over the past three
and a half decades. A year before the election of Morales Bolivia s annual increase in GDP was 0.9%,
today under the helm of Morales the annual increased has soared to 3%, a 2.1% increase. Furthermore
it would be possible to counter the argument that the stopping of global station would lead to
shortages in produce especially food. From what we know many secluded society s like the tribes in
the Amazon have managed to grow, cultivate and harvest enough food to feed their populations. For
example the The Xingu people that live in Xingu national park, have avoided globalisation ever since
the first landings on the Conquistadores landed in South America in the 16th century. During this time
their population has thrived from 3000 members in 32 different settlements. These people obtain their
food from communal vegetable gardens and spear fishing. Furthermore their traditional longhouses
are built from local trees. This is a clear example of a civilisation that has managed not only to survive
but to thrive in a world without globalisation. From these examples we can see that it is possible to
stop globalisation without a imminent collapse of society. However it has to be said that in the case of

There are various agents who initiates and works really hard day and night to overcome the criminal

Rape cases, even after various amendments and legally sound acts are even not overcome this
problem. There are various agents who actively participates are as follows:
National commission for women: NCW along with the Law commission of India had recommended a
separate part called unlawful sexual contact , which was defined to cover the act of touching, directly
or indirectly, with a part of the body or with an object, any part of the body of another person with
sexual intent and without the consent of such other person. There was also need to remove that very
Victorian phrase of outraging the modesty of a woman in Section 354 and replacing it with violating
the bodily integrity of the woman , which allows for a graded recognition of non penetrative types of
sexual assault.
There was need too for expansion the scope of Section 509 in the Bill to include acts and behaviour,
which do not engage physical contact but is proposed to harass or insult or humiliate women, with or
without sexual mean. Incidents like sexual harassment including sexual harassment at work places,

Jane Austen s Novel And The World Of Books
Novels are a unique form of writing that brings about a new style in the world of books. Novel by its
definition is a new kind different from anything ever before. These books range from the greats to the
recently printed because novels only have to be new for when they came out. So for instance Pride and
Prejudice was novel when it came out in 1813 just like how Mrs. Dalloway was novel when it came
out in 1925. Although these novels seem to be fiction, if not realistic fiction, it is common to wonder
how the authors came up with these ideas for their books. In actuality most authors take experiences
that they had from their lives and incorporated them into the story. Often after researching an author
one can see that there are many parallels between their novel and their actual life. Some aspects can be
from other situations outside of ones personal life, but ultimately authors create much of their stories
based off of life experiences and can be seen in Housekeeping, The Passion, and Thomas and Beulah.
Growing up in Sandpoint Idaho was the first influence that Marilynne Robinson had when it comes to
writing her stories. In this instance it has influenced her in her writing of Housekeeping to have a more
western and Midwestern feel to there locations. On top of that she includes many rural factors into her
stories other than Housekeeping referencing her life growing up in rural Idaho. One of the more
notable factors in this comparison in Housekeeping is the town of

What Is Unnatural Essay
For many years Human beings have been trying to define what is natural, and what is not. And we are
getting to the point, to where unnatural is becoming more natural thanks to modern science and
medicine. For instance, If a man wants to become a woman, all they have to do is go to a doctor and
ask them to snip snip if you will. And as long as that person has the money and the medical
insurance/coverage, they can totally do it. But is homosexuality unnatural? I think yes and no. See, we
as human being experience a lot of things. We go through a lot of things. And we are always trying to
seek to figure out more about ourselves. But the thing that I have found is that what you define as
unnatural is based off of what you view as natural or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But it is ultimately up to you if you want to engage in that. We have no place to honestly judge
someone by their actions or lifestyle. Only God can do that. It is our job as human beings to instead of
shunning them for who they choose to be, we love on them, we develop mature relationship with
them, and we show them the true love of God. One that is non judgmental, nor condemning. But one
of understanding and loving. And show that we are not your typical bible thumpers, but that we
understand what they are feeling, though we may not agree with it, we show that we accept them for
who they are. See, we are supposed to be a light to the lost. How are we being that if we are constantly
shunning people from our churches, and lives, for being what they chose to be. Like I said, we do not
have to agree with their lifestyle, but we sure can love them through it, and eventually show them a
better way.
So, is Homosexuality unnatural? No. Everyone experiences their own kind of feelings whether of
lustful desires, or other reasons. It s human nature to be sexual beings. But it all comes down to if you
want to act on those desires and feelings or

brought to a judgment and then to a killing. It anticipates the New Testament view of the preordained
death of the messiah. It is written in a Hebrew script and is only a six line fragment. Most of the
scrolls were found in caves near Qumran.
The Qumran site was excavated to find the habitation of those who deposited the scrolls in the nearby
caves. The excavations uncovered plates bowls and cemeteries with over twelve hundred graves that
have the same characteristics which suggest religious uniformity, along with a complex of structures
which suggested that they were communal in presentation. Many believe this is where a community of
a distant Jewish sect called the Essenes may have once lived. The Essenes were members of a Jewish
religious brotherhood organized on a communal basis who practiced strict disciplines. The order had
around 4000 members and they existed in Palestine and Syria from the 2nd century BC to the 2nd
century AD. The sects main settlements were on

Prediction Of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor...
What is the topic number of your assigned article and the title of the paper?
#5, Title: Prediction of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor response using diffusion
weighted
MRI
Outline of the Main Points to be included in your Poster Presentation of your article
WHY: The purpose of this article was to present findings of a study that analyzed the difference in
serotonin uptake in the brain between patients who remitted to SSRI antidepressants and those who
did not.
WHAT: I hope to learn more about serotonin uptake in the brain (specifically in the amygdala and
hippocampus) and how this relates to depression and its treatment. I also hope to learn how the
researchers analyzed their data and how they decided to analyze it in a certain way based on the types
of data they obtained.
HOW:
1. Skim and outline:
a. What is the overall objective of this investigation? Why was the study undertaken?
The study was performed to reaffirm a previous observation that there is a difference in ability for
serotonin to bind between depressed people who respond to SSRI s and those who don t. The
investigation focuses on the left and right amygdala and hippocampus. FA (fractional anisotropy)
values of SSRI remitters and non
remitters in the hippocampus and amygdala were found by
performing probabilistic tractography using the DW
MRI scan. Probabilistic tractography was
performed using an algorithm that computes probabilistic streamlines through each voxel. The
weighted average FA is

Write An Essay On The Appalachian Trail
There are many aspects of the Appalachian Trail. The Appalachian trail is 2,200 beautiful miles long.
The trail goes through 14 states and 5 national parks. ¨It runs from Georgia to Maine, making it the
longest marked trail in the country, and one of the longest in the world.¨ 4,019 people hiked the trail in
2010. Out of all the years that the trail has been here only 12,000 hikers actually made it through the
entire trail. The hardest part of the trail is located in Georgia. More than 4,000 volunteers help every

Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka Change Essay
Change is something that can t be avoided. It is a basic quality of life and in the book The
Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka change is essential. This theme is a crucial part of this story. It is one
that influences the plot and the behavior of the characters in the story.
The first change we see, the one that I think is obviously the most important because it is the reason all
the other events in the story happen, is when Gregor goes from being a human to being a gigantic bug.
After this all of his thoughts and feelings began to change too. The awareness he has over becoming
this bug evokes him. Everything that was once familiar to him, all of the objects that are on his room
when he wakes up, become altered and unfamiliar in his bug like state. After waking up, the ... Show

All of Gregor s family has different experiences when he chances into a bug. Because of the change he
is unable to work. This puts a burden on his family, they all end up having to find jobs. His mother
finds a job sewing lingerie for a clothing store. His sister finds a job as a salesperson, she also begins
to learn French in order to be able to move into a higher position. And his father finds a job as a
messenger. The family also had to decide on renting out rooms of their house to add to the income. He
overhears a family discussion revolving around a financial issue they had I countered which leaves
him feeling guilty. Because Gregor has now turned into a bug, the family loses the harmony that most
families have. The family members now stay away from him. They stop interacting with each him, not
even looking at him in some cases. They also don t want to be alone with him, making sure that at
least two other people are with him. Any maid that they had or hired begged for them to be dismissed

Ella Dying At Home Case Study
In my research, I will discuss the benefits of Ella dying at home and the psychological affects staying
in a hospital can have on her, particularly after the fact she has requested to be with her family during
her last days. it will be appropriate for Ella to live out her last days in the comfort of her own home.
Since Ella has come to terms that she has cancer and her physician has recommended Hospice, I
would assume not treating the cancer is not a decision factor for treatment decisions. She has come to
terms that treatment is not available and her alternative methods are no longer effective. Although her
family wish that she remains in a facility, Ella must follow her inner sense as to what is right for her

if Ella remains in her home environment she will feel a sense of comfort. Based on Ella s past
responses concerning a treatment decisions, I think it is vital to mention the lawful aspects of her
decision to stay at home. The law permits individuals to die in the comfort of their own home, even in
the event the decision would cause physical harm or death for someone who is too sick such as Ella to
receive treatment (Webmd.com). Since Ella is staying home, I would like to discuss the disadvantages
of her decision. Staying at home could increase extend a burden on her husband and family members
emotionally and physically and these factors can be overwhelming for the family, however I will
include with the help of the Hospice team and proper organization and planning these disadvantages
could resolved. Another disadvantage is not all physicians are willing to care for terminally ill
individuals which this issue is easily resolvable by referring to a physician that care for Hospice
patients. While completing my research, I found the advantages of Ella staying home by far outweigh
the disadvantages. As I discussed earlier Ella will be in the comfort of her own home, in addition her
family, extended family, friends and neighbors would be able to visit as Ella permits, dying in the
home will enable Ella to maintain her quality of life, she will have control over her own decisions vs
being at a hospital the physician or nurse has the final say based on what they recommend as well as
diet schedules and no one wants to be controlled during their last days of living. Finally, I do believe
one know when they are getting near the end of life as the physical and cognitive changes begin to

Pros And Cons Of Social Entrepreneurship
SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP AN OVERRATED PHENONMENA
Social entrepreneurship which has been applied in so many different ways by so many different
analysts that it s depth of vast complexity is still being unraveled and it seems it is still in infancy. It is
a multi interpretable concept and although the use of the term is widespread its use is either overrated
or misused. Hence, it is important to firstly understand what social entrepreneurship really is.
To me, entrepreneurship is completely dedicating yourself to creating something out of nothing,
finding an opportunity and taking full advantage of it while embracing new challenges every day.
Social Entrepreneurship is an integrated part of Entrepreneurship that aims to use business to ... Show

It allows for social change advocacy without the potential external consequences of conventional
activism. But increasingly, we are led to believe that entrepreneurs and social enterprises are the avant
garde of change making . Like every concept has both pros and cons, similarly even social
entrepreneurship has its own demerits. On one hand it is one major factor in bringing change while on
the other end it is being overused by companies who start off with the motive of being socially
responsible and use this for the advantage in future ,by diverting their focus on profits. The point is, all
of a sudden, social entrepreneurship was everywhere and everyone wanted to be one. The key to
sustainable capitalism is reasonable profits as opposed to maximizing profits. In the current system, a
segment of society is trying to maximize profits without concern for the impact on the well being of
the society as a whole, while another segment of social organizations have to deal with the fall out.
The system is not working. If it does good in some areas it also does bad in others. The example of
Toms one for one shoe program though does charity and is a social enterprise but at its worst, it
promotes a view of the world s poor as helpless, ineffective people passively waiting for trinkets from
shoe buying Americans. While the shoes themselves probably won t lead to any kind of disaster, that
worldview can lead to bad policies and real, serious harm also has a small negative impact on local
markets. And so I have come to feel increasingly uncomfortable with the term social entrepreneurship
and its main actor, the social entrepreneur . It creates a false separation between this is where we make
money, and this is where we do good . And that is exactly what is wrong with capitalism today. Myths
of social entrepreneurship are different from what and how it really works in the

Essay On African Americans In The Military
African Americans and their challenges in the military
The challenges that African Americans had to face in the military during World War II African
Americans have had many difficult challenges in the military throughout history, from the beginning
of their service during the civil war, right up to present day. Probably the main challenges that African
Americans face in the military, regardless of the time in history, are dealing with racism and
discrimination. Although racism and discrimination in today s modern military is not as severe as it
once was in past history, it definitely still exists. However, racism and discrimination in today s
military holds a much different form and is based off of much different logic than the form of ... Show

worthy or could not be trusted with highly responsible duties of a combat unit (Bowker 2014). By the
late 1930 s, as World War II was breaking out, many high ranking military officers, as well as civilian
personnel, still felt that African Americans had no business in the United States military at all, similar
to the Civil War days of the 19th Century. An example of the typical 1940 s military logic was from
Major General Thomas Holcomb, Commandant of the US Marine Corp. According to Astor s (1998)

Sarah Russell s voice (somewhat reminiscent of Ellie Goulding) melds well with Adam Young s. It s
just a fun love song. Alas, this is followed by probably my least favorite song on the album,
Unbelievable. This should be a fun nostalgic song looking back to the childhood of their generation. It
comes off as bit dull song which list of things without any clever lyrics to tie it together. A clever rap
with good transitions could hav3e worked with what is, essentially, a long list. This just doesn t work.
It is Unbelievable. Now, admittedly, someone that had their shared experiences could find forgiveness
in the list with their own nostalgic memories. Bird with a Broken Wind stands in stark contrast to the
bubble gum pop of Unbelievable, taking on those who see the world primarily fraught with danger and
loss. Clearly this is someone whose experience have left them with scared and broken where the song

Black Social, Intellectual, And Political Boundaries
Pan Africanism signifies the difficulties of black social, intellectual, and political notions over a two
hundred year span. What establishes Pan Africanism, on the basic level, is the unity of Africans
worldwide. Pan Africanists believe that the African people in its entirety, which includes the Diaspora
and the African continent, does not just share common beginnings but also a common destiny.
(Asante, 1976, p. 97) This ideology of an intertwined past and future of all the African people has
however took many forms, as different thinkers feel that there are different methods in achieving
African unity. Three great thinkers, W.E.B. Dubois, Marcus Garvey, and Malcolm X, were all leaders
of their own Pan African movement which each contained their own element in achieving Pan
Africanism. DuBois took a more academic stance which included the utilization of the elites, whereas
Garvey and Malcolm X were more so grassroots organizers as they believed in the bottom up decision
making rather than top down.
To commence, Dr. William Edward Burghardt DuBois, better known as W.E.B. Dubois, is
acknowledged as the Father of Pan Africanism. (Esedebe, 1971, p. 84) One of DuBois first movement
towards Pan Africanism was his idea of the Talented Tenth. He felt that in order to save the Negro race
it must be done by exceptional men. (Franklin, 2011, p. 301) Dubois believed that the development of
the Negro race must be done through college education. This involved writing books,

Analysis Of A Raisin In The Sun Production By Lorraine...
Hello and welcome to the A Raisin in the Sun Production by Lorraine Hansberry.
Lorraine Hansberry was born in Chicago on March 19, 1930. Hansberry was an African American.
She was one of four siblings that include two brothers and one sister. In the 1930 s racism and
segregation was prevalent in the time. Her parents were civil rights activist Carl and Nannie
Hansberry Tillman. She was raised in the Woodlawn neighborhood on Chicago s South Side. Her
family was one of the wealthy African American families in Chicago. When she was five years old,
her parents got her a fur coat. She wore it to school one day and she got beaten for wearing it. Also,
when she was eight years old she moved to the white suburbs of Chicago and once her and her family
arrived at their new homes they faced harassment and threats by mobs of white people. She nearly
died after getting hit in the head with a brick. Her father went to court to fight for the legal right to live
in that new neighborhood. The Supreme Court case of Hansberry v. Lee Weston Playhouse Theater
Company. The characters in A Raisin in the Sun are black and live in Chicago just like Hansberry. The
characters are also going through segregation/racism, similar to Hansberry. All of that damage done to
young Lorraine Hansberry changed her when she got older. She got married in 1953 with Robert

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Problem Solving
Various types of problems are evident. They have been classified as generic or specific for a task, well
structured to ill structured, diagnostic or remedial. (De Mast and Lokkerbol, 2012). In order to ensure
solved problems do not resurface, scientific methods of problem solving needs to be used.
Literature review suggest that scientific problem solving has been addressed by three schools of
thought namely Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing/ Lean Enterprise and World Class Manufacturing
Practices. These theories have evolved over time with the empirical evidence and new knowledge
uncovered.
2.1 Six Sigma
The origin of six sigma comes from statistics and statisticians. (Hahn et al., 1999), (Hoerl and Snee,

The start up cost for six sigma into a corporate culture (training, consulting, improvement

Committed leadership of top management and fully fledged training are crucial to the success of Six
Sigma implementation. Human resource functions need good harmonization with Six Sigma

Vegetarianism In Tibetan Buddhism
Tibetan Buddhism, a Mahayana sect, is a unique exception in strictly following the vegetarian diet, as
Tibetan Buddhism encourages vegetarianism despite most communities being located on the Qing hai
Tibetan Plateau (Rinpoche) The Qing hai plateau is most likely the largest and highest area ever to
exist on Earth, with an average elevation of 16,400 feet (Foggin). This has led to few constructions of
transportation services, virtually causing the region to be excluded from vegetation trade.
Furthermore, lack of oxygen due to high elevation and severe permafrost demolish the prospect of any
suitable condition coming about for growing numerous crops. To cope with these circumstances,
Tibetan Buddhists strive on a vegetable and grain diet, consuming a restricted amount of meat if
natural conditions limit their main food sources (Rinpoche). In this way, they clearly demonstrate their
compassion towards animal life by holding a strong resolve to consume only non beings and to eat
meat only if of utmost necessity, regardless of limited vegetation supply. On the bases of ahimsa and
compassion, Tibetan Buddhism perpetuates the moral responsibility and spiritual respect humans
should hold towards nonhumans.
Contrary to the disheartening truth that animal agriculture and animal slaughter are inescapably
intertwined, the vegetarian diet is not a required regimen in all Buddhist schools of thought. Buddha
Gautama characterized Buddhism as a free religion, aware that forbidding meat

The Blindness Motif In Oedipus The King

The role of blindness can be found in ancient Greek plays with both scenarios of literal and figurative
blindness. Some plays use the blindness motif with irony, to sometimes create a theme in the plays.
Instances in the Greek play written by Sophocles shows the theme of curiosity through eyes, and it can
reflect on today s culture. The blindness motif in Oedipus the King has been proven by Oedipus
himself and can also be seen in today s culture, with the 45th president, Donald Trump. Sophocles

  • 2. Flamingo Case Study Student Description Flamingo is a 6 year old, first grade male in a K 1 self contained class. In his class there are a total of 7 students with 5 adults (teacher, 2 teaching assistants, and 2 1:1 aids). Overall, Flamingo is a great student that always tries his best. Even though he tries his best, sometimes he is too hard on himself as he strives for perfectionism. Critical Learning Needs and Objective Flamingo has been diagnosed as having a speech and language disability, and his parents refused to have him labeled as autistic, even though he has difficulty with processing and focusing. Besides helping Flamingo stay on task, he needs 1:1 support as he completes his classwork. In regards to ELA, Flamingo is a strong reader, but has difficulty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When working with Flamingo, the graphic organizer allowed him to slow down, making him go back into the text to find important details. This process had Flamingo rereading the text and putting it into his own words. By doing this, Flamingo had a better understanding of what he was reading. At first, it did seem that Flamingo had a hard time determining what details were important and what details were just extra. However, after talking to him and walking through different examples, Flamingo did start understanding the difference. Overall, this project was effective because Flamingos reading comprehension improved. Next time, before giving Flamingo or another student this intervention, I would first have a mini lesson on how to determine important details. This could be done by teaching the students how to actively read their text by taking notes in the margins or on post it notes. By doing this, hopefully the student will not feel overwhelmed by completing this task. In the future, it will be important for Flamingo s teacher to continue this intervention but to introduce new graphic organizers as well. Introducing different graphic organizers will be important because they all have different purposes in regards to reading and writing. Finding different and appropriate graphic organizers will allow Flamingo to be more specific and accurate when he does his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theme Of Civilization In Lord Of The Flies Loss of Civilization After a plane crash carrying a group of young British school boys, they are left to survive without any adults and protect themselves from all the danger this island might create. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding the boys at first try to make rules that relate to their civilization back home. Early in the story, Roger can not adapt to the new way of life and is still trying remain civilized like the other boys, but when there is a loss of order and fears of the island progress, he starts to move away from civilization and does what needs to do to stay alive. Golding uses the symbols of rocks, face paint, the character Roger to express the theme of loss of civilization in civilized boys who become savage. Throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the boys were building sand castles on the beach, and Roger goes up to them and kicks the sand castles down. To be even more annoying, Roger gathered a handful of stones and began to throw them. Yet there was a space round Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he dare not throw ... Roger s arm was conditioned by civilization that knew nothing of him and was in ruins. (Golding 62). Even if Roger is already mean and annoying, he still at this point in the story can not throw rocks to hurt someone because he is still civilized. Roger starts to turn into savagery fast. At this point in the story all of the older boys except Piggy and Ralph are at the top of Castle Rock. They took Piggy s glasses to start a fire, so Piggy goes up to Castle Rock to ask for them back: High overhead, Roger, with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all of his weight on the lever ... The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee (Golding 180 181). Roger has lost all of civilized that he killed someone. • 4. The Characteristics Of The Seated Statue Of Hatshepsut Seated Statue of Hatshepsut While examining the Seated Statue of Hatshepsut, initially, the first thing one notices is the female figure of Egyptian pharaoh Hatshepsut. Although Hatshepsut is being shown in a primarily male position, it does not take the attention away from her feminine face and petite, graceful body. Over time, taking on the role of a pharaoh changed the perception the world had of who Hatshepsut was. She went from being portrayed as the beautiful women seen in this artwork, to being depicted as an unrecognizable male figure. When comparing the Seated Statue of Hatshepsut to other statues of Hatshepsut created overtime, one would notice a dramatic difference. Despite the fact that she is shown wearing the ceremonial attire of an egyptian king, (Museum Label Text, Seated Statue of Hatshepsut) there is still a very strong sense of the figure being female. To further point out the female traits of Hatshepsut in this statue, one would notice the rounded protruding chest that appears to be the chest of a female. On the other hand, in later statues of Hatshepsut, one would notice that the chest is much different. Her chest went from being round to being more square and flat, similar to those of a man. Another significant difference is the size change between the statutes. In the seated statue of Hatshepsut, she is very petite with small shoulders, thin arms, waist and legs. Hatshepsut is later depicted as having very wide, broad shoulders and a muscular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. U.s. Subprime Mortgage Crisis Essay The U.S. subprime mortgage crisis was a set of events and conditions that led to the late 2000s financial crisis, characterized by a rise in subprime mortgage delinquencies and foreclosures, and the resulting decline of securities backed by said mortgages. After U.S. housing sales prices peaked in mid 2006 and began their steep decline, refinancing became more difficult. As adjustable rate mortgages began to reset at higher interest rates, mortgage delinquencies soared. Securities backed with mortgages, including subprime mortgages, widely held by financial firms, lost most of their value. Global investors also drastically reduced purchases of mortgage backed debt and other securities as part of a decline in the capacity and willingness of the private financial system to support lending. Concerns about the soundness of U.S. credit and financial markets led to tightening credit around the world and slowing economic growth in the U.S. and Europe. The immediate cause or trigger of the crisis was the bursting of the United States housing bubble which peaked in approximately 2005 2006. Caused by an increase in loan incentives such as easy initial terms and a long term trend of rising housing prices had encouraged borrowers to assume difficult mortgages in the belief they would be able to quickly refinance at more favorable terms. Once interest rates began to rise and housing prices started to drop moderately in 2006 in many parts of the U.S., refinancing became more difficult. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These can be used in the hiring process as well, in particular for the manufacturing jobs that have physical requirements such as the ability to lift 25 lbs . (The Case) Since job descriptions cannot possibly list every single task an employee may be expected to perform in their work day, other duties as assigned or another descriptor for possible additional duties should be included. Once accurate job descriptions are in place, performance reviews should be instituted at Doohickeys U Need. We recommend that these take place quarterly, and that they be a collaborative effort between supervisors and employees. Employees may be asked to evaluate their own performance against the job description in place for their position, as well as future goals for improvement and areas which the employee feels they most excel in. Both the supervisory and employee evaluation will be placed in the employee personnel file. With accurate job descriptions and performance evaluations on file, Human Resources will better be able to evaluate employee performance and decide if discipline problems are part of an ongoing problem with an employee or if they were a one off or perhaps even indicative of a failure in the system that points to a need for further training or resources. Control theorists believe that conformity to the rules of society is produced by socialization and maintained by ties to people and institutions to family members, friends, schools, and jobs. Put briefly, crime and delinquency result when the individual s bond to society is weak or broken. As social bonds increase in strength, the costs of crime to the individual increase as well. The intellectual roots of social control theory reach back several centuries, but it was not until the middle of the 20th century that this theory began to generate broad interest among crime researchers. Since then, it has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It assumes further that a primary cost of crime is the disapproval of the people about whom the potential offender cares. To the extent that the potential offender cares about no one, he or she is free to commit the crime in question. Sociologists often explain conformity as the result of such sensitivity. Psychologists as often explain deviation as the result of insensitivity to the concerns of others. Together, they tell us that sensitivity is a continuum and that some people have more than others and some have less than others. This is the position adopted by control theorists. They focus on the extent to which people are sensitive to the opinion of others and predict that this variable will predict rates of crime and delinquency. Sensitivity suggests feeling or emotion, and this element of the social bond indeed attempts to capture the emotions (or lack thereof) involved in conformity and deviance. The words are many: affection, love, concern, care, and respect, to name only some. Social control theorists use attachment as an abstract summary of these concepts. The evidence is clear that family attachments are strongly correlated with (non)delinquency. In their famous book Unraveling Juvenile Delinquency, Sheldon and Eleanor Glueck (1950) indicated that, according to their research, affection of the father and the mother for the child were two of the best five predictors of delinquency. ... Novel by its definition is a new kind different from anything ever before. These books range from the greats to the recently printed because novels only have to be new for when they came out. So for instance Pride and Prejudice was novel when it came out in 1813 just like how Mrs. Dalloway was novel when it came out in 1925. Although these novels seem to be fiction, if not realistic fiction, it is common to wonder how the authors came up with these ideas for their books. In actuality most authors take experiences that they had from their lives and incorporated them into the story. Often after researching an author one can see that there are many parallels between their novel and their actual life. Some aspects can be from other situations outside of ones personal life, but ultimately authors create much of their stories based off of life experiences and can be seen in Housekeeping, The Passion, and Thomas and Beulah. Growing up in Sandpoint Idaho was the first influence that Marilynne Robinson had when it comes to writing her stories. In this instance it has influenced her in her writing of Housekeeping to have a more western and Midwestern feel to there locations. To me, entrepreneurship is completely dedicating yourself to creating something out of nothing, finding an opportunity and taking full advantage of it while embracing new challenges every day. Social Entrepreneurship is an integrated part of Entrepreneurship that aims to use business to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It allows for social change advocacy without the potential external consequences of conventional activism. But increasingly, we are led to believe that entrepreneurs and social enterprises are the avant garde of change making . Like every concept has both pros and cons, similarly even social entrepreneurship has its own demerits. On one hand it is one major factor in bringing change while on the other end it is being overused by companies who start off with the motive of being socially responsible and use this for the advantage in future ,by diverting their focus on profits. The point is, all of a sudden, social entrepreneurship was everywhere and everyone wanted to be one. The key to sustainable capitalism is reasonable profits as opposed to maximizing profits. In the current system, a segment of society is trying to maximize profits without concern for the impact on the well being of the society as a whole, while another segment of social organizations have to deal with the fall out. The system is not working. If it does good in some areas it also does bad in others. The example of Toms one for one shoe program though does charity and is a social enterprise but at its worst, it promotes a view of the world s poor as helpless, ineffective people passively waiting for trinkets from shoe buying Americans. While the shoes themselves probably won t lead to any kind of disaster, that worldview can lead to bad policies and real, serious harm also has a small negative impact on local markets. And so I have come to feel increasingly uncomfortable with the term social entrepreneurship and its main actor, the social entrepreneur . It creates a false separation between this is where we make money, and this is where we do good . And that is exactly what is wrong with capitalism today. Myths of social entrepreneurship are different from what and how it really works in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On African Americans In The Military African Americans and their challenges in the military The challenges that African Americans had to face in the military during World War II African Americans have had many difficult challenges in the military throughout history, from the beginning of their service during the civil war, right up to present day. Probably the main challenges that African Americans face in the military, regardless of the time in history, are dealing with racism and discrimination. Although racism and discrimination in today s modern military is not as severe as it once was in past history, it definitely still exists. During these times, African Americans were thought of as sub standard individuals, who were not worthy or could not be trusted with highly responsible duties of a combat unit (Bowker 2014). By the late 1930 s, as World War II was breaking out, many high ranking military officers, as well as civilian personnel, still felt that African Americans had no business in the United States military at all, similar to the Civil War days of the 19th Century. An example of the typical 1940 s military logic was from Major General Thomas Holcomb, Commandant of the US Marine Corp. According to Astor s (1998) documentation, Holcomb publically stated: If it were a question of having a Marine Corps of 5,000 whites or 250,000 Negros, I would rather have the whites. Sarah Russell s voice (somewhat reminiscent of Ellie Goulding) melds well with Adam Young s. It s just a fun love song. Alas, this is followed by probably my least favorite song on the album, Unbelievable. This should be a fun nostalgic song looking back to the childhood of their generation. It comes off as bit dull song which list of things without any clever lyrics to tie it together. A clever rap with good transitions could hav3e worked with what is, essentially, a long list. This just doesn t work. It is Unbelievable. Now, admittedly, someone that had their shared experiences could find forgiveness in the list with their own nostalgic memories. Bird with a Broken Wind stands in stark contrast to the bubble gum pop of Unbelievable, taking on those who see the world primarily fraught with danger and loss. Clearly this is someone whose experience have left them with scared and broken where the song grapples with how you live in the wake of those experiences: It feels like I m a lone survivor/Forgotten in a dark and deadly world/And on my own/I walk alone/To see the sun again/I d give anything/But life demands a final chapter/A story we all must leave behind/It s do or die/And this is mine/The anthem of a bird with a broken ... • 29. Black Social, Intellectual, And Political Boundaries Pan Africanism signifies the difficulties of black social, intellectual, and political notions over a two hundred year span. What establishes Pan Africanism, on the basic level, is the unity of Africans worldwide. Pan Africanists believe that the African people in its entirety, which includes the Diaspora and the African continent, does not just share common beginnings but also a common destiny. (Asante, 1976, p. 97) This ideology of an intertwined past and future of all the African people has however took many forms, as different thinkers feel that there are different methods in achieving African unity. Three great thinkers, W.E.B. Dubois, Marcus Garvey, and Malcolm X, were all leaders of their own Pan African movement which each contained their own element in achieving Pan Africanism. DuBois took a more academic stance which included the utilization of the elites, whereas Garvey and Malcolm X were more so grassroots organizers as they believed in the bottom up decision making rather than top down. To commence, Dr. William Edward Burghardt DuBois, better known as W.E.B. Dubois, is acknowledged as the Father of Pan Africanism. (Esedebe, 1971, p. 84) One of DuBois first movement towards Pan Africanism was his idea of the Talented Tenth. He felt that in order to save the Negro race it must be done by exceptional men. • 38. Vegetarianism In Tibetan Buddhism Tibetan Buddhism, a Mahayana sect, is a unique exception in strictly following the vegetarian diet, as Tibetan Buddhism encourages vegetarianism despite most communities being located on the Qing hai Tibetan Plateau (Rinpoche) The Qing hai plateau is most likely the largest and highest area ever to exist on Earth, with an average elevation of 16,400 feet (Foggin). This has led to few constructions of transportation services, virtually causing the region to be excluded from vegetation trade. Furthermore, lack of oxygen due to high elevation and severe permafrost demolish the prospect of any suitable condition coming about for growing numerous crops. To cope with these circumstances, Tibetan Buddhists strive on a vegetable and grain diet, consuming a restricted amount of meat if natural conditions limit their main food sources (Rinpoche). In this way, they clearly demonstrate their compassion towards animal life by holding a strong resolve to consume only non beings and to eat meat only if of utmost necessity, regardless of limited vegetation supply. On the bases of ahimsa and compassion, Tibetan Buddhism perpetuates the moral responsibility and spiritual respect humans should hold towards nonhumans. Contrary to the disheartening truth that animal agriculture and animal slaughter are inescapably intertwined, the vegetarian diet is not a required regimen in all Buddhist schools of thought.
