LANDSCAPING
AND
OPEN SPACES
Landscaping:- refers to any activity that modifies the visible features of
an area of land, including:
(1) Living elements, such as flora or fauna; or what is commonly
called gardening, the art and craft of growing plants with a goal of
creating a beautiful environment within the landscape.
(2) Natural elements such as landforms, terrain shape and elevation,
or bodies of water.
(3) Abstract elements such as the weather and lighting conditions.
The importance of landscaping:-
Once your new construction home is finished, the attention often
turns to your yard. Landscaping is important for many more
reasons than simply having a lovely yard. However, there are many
cases when the house itself has stretched your budget and the
ability to properly landscape is lost. You may think that attempting
to complete your own landscaping on a shoestring budget is ideal.
However, the chances are that knowing you have an allowance to
spend on landscaping from the start is probably more appropriate.
Objectives of landscaping:-
(1) To encourage the maintenance and protection of the
urban landscape character of Roads as well as avoiding or
minimizing the adverse effects of public undertakings.
(2) To maintain and preserve individual trees, tree lines and
grass boulevards within the District.
(3) To enhance public spaces, notably, boulevards with
appropriate landscaping.
open spaces:-
Open space is any open piece of land that is undeveloped (has no buildings or other
built structures) and is accessible to the public. Open space can include:
* Green space (land that is partly or completely covered with grass, trees, shrubs, or other
vegetation). Green space includes parks, community gardens, and cemeteries.
* Schoolyards
* Playgrounds
* Public seating areas
* Public plazas
* Vacant lots
Open space provides recreational areas for residents and helps to enhance the beauty
and environmental quality of neighborhoods.
Guidelines for open spaces:-
• Be of adequate size.
• Be situated in such locations and provide such ingress and
egress as will make the area easily accessible to the general
public.
• Be well-designed, and where appropriate, be landscaped.
• Be protected from uncomfortable wind.
• Incorporate various features, including ample seating and, if
appropriate, access to food service, which will enhance public use
of the area.
• Have adequate access to sunlight if sunlight access is
appropriate to the type of area.
• Be well-lighted if the area is of the type requiring artificial
illumination.
• Be open to the public at times when it is reasonable to expect
substantial public use.
• Be designed to enhance user safety and security.
• Have at least 75 percent of the total open space approved be
open to the public during all daylight hours.
