Abstract: Nutritional status during school age is a major determinant of nutritional and health status in adult
life. Many studies showed that under nutrition and anaemia had an adverse impact on performance and
consequently led to reduction in wages for persons employed in manual labour.
The past three decades have witnessed the emergence of over nutrition as a problem in school-age children in
developed countries and in affluent urban segments in developing countries. The main determinants of
performance are physical fitness and skill. Longitudinal studies have shown that the lifestyle and physical
fitness during childhood and adolescence were major determinants of lifestyle, physical fitness and freedom
from non-communicable diseases in adult life.

A Study Of Age At Menarche And Body Composition In School Girls Of Metro citiesijcite
Two thousand and seventeen subjects of various schools from two important metro cities in Maharashtra namely Mumbai and Pune in the age group of 10-14 year were studied to examine association between age at menarche and body composition. Data was collected through General Questionnaire & their body composition was assessed using analyzer (Tanita model no. BC 420 PM A). Out of the total sample, 370 students with mean age 12.35 year ±1.009 had attained menarche (AM) in the recent period of their recruitment whereas 1,646 girls had not attained menarche meaning they were perimenarcheal (PM) at the recruitment with mean age 11.42 year ±1.065. A concerning fact established by our study was that 10% of girls
from our population had attained menarche when they were just 11 yrs and 52.18% girls had attained menarche before they were 12 years of age. Results showed that All the body composition parameter except total body water percentage (TBW %) were higher in AM group compared to PM group. It was observed that fat percentage and fat mass was negatively
correlated with age at menarche which was statistically significant at 0.01 levels. Fat free mass, muscle mass, TBW (kg) were weakly negatively correlated whereas TBW (%) was positively correlated with age at menarche which was statistically significant at 0.01 levels.
Effect of socio economic status on the effective students participation in ph...Dr. Mohammed Abou Elmagd
The socio-economic status make-up of an individual Influences habitual physical activity and plays an important role in one’s achievements in every field of life, including performance in sports. The current study aimed to assess the effect of socio-economic status determined by parental education and family income on the effective students’ participation in physical activity sessions at RAK Medical& Health Sciences University. The study demonstrated significant positive correlation between physical activity levels of the students and mother education (r=0.139, p=0.05) and family income (r = 0.182, p= 0.01), while father education had no significant effect on the level of students’ physical activity (r =0.030, p=0.676). Conversely, a significant negative correlation was noted between the physical activity levels of the students and number of family members (r = -0.130, p= 0.068). The study also revealed that the majority (114/198, 52%) of students were in the medium socio-economic status category. In addition, students with low socio-economic status were more likely to display low physical activity whereas students with high socio-economic status were more likely to display high physical activity.

An assessment of adolescent eating habits in public schools of chak shahzad, ...Zubia Qureshi
Abstract: Eating patterns influence the nutritional status, health, learning process and academic performance of the school children. This study was conducted to explore the food availability at school canteens and food intake by adolescents in break period. A cross sectional study was conducted on 290 adolescents (145 were girls and 145 boys) of 6th, 7th and 8th grade from public schools of Chak Shahzad, Islamabad. Pre-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Chi square / fisher exact test was done by using SPSS to check the association. The mean age of adolescents was 12.6 ± 1.33 years. They were reported normal, underweight, overweight and obese as 176 (60.7%), 79 (27.2%), 27 (9.3%) and 9 (2.8%) respectively. Nutritional status was significantly related with gender, age and grade of adolescents with p-value <0.05. Response showed that 199 (68.6%) adolescents prefer canteen food during break time, and 66 (22.8%) give preference to homemade lunch. Few of them 25 (8.6%) take fruits in school break time. About (24.8%) took drink with lunch which were juices 30 (10.3%), milk/milk shake 14 (5.9%), carbonated drinks 6 (2.1%), and tea/coffee 13 (4.5%). Consumption of carbohydrates, protein, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products was found as 64 (22.1%), 26 (0.9%), 32 (11%), 4 (1.4%) and 1 (0.3%) respectively in adolescents who brought their lunch from home. Around 49% of students were not satisfied with food provided on their school canteens. Availability of food items on school canteens and overall eating pattern of adolescents is not satisfactory. There is a need of school canteen guidelines/policy and nutritional education to canteen staff and pupils.

The prevalence of childhood obesity has been increasing rapidly and there is general consensus that good nutritional practices and physical activity should be encouraged as early as possible in life. The aim of this study was to describe and to compare the current lifestyle and dietary pattern of normal weight (NW) and overweight + obese (OW+OB) male adolescents who are physically active.
Methods: This observational and retrospective study was based on clinical records analysis of male adolescents aged 11-18 years who had undergone a medical evaluation at a Medical Sport Centre (Pavia, Italy) during 2009, and had filled in a self-administered life style questionnaire.
Results: The results showed that out of 1423 clinical records 23.0% of subjects were OW, 5.4% OB and 71.6% NW. We invited all the overweight and obese subjects to participate in the study, 308 of them (75.8%) agreed. Then we randomly enrolled an equivalent number of NW participants (n=308) in the medical evaluation at the sports center with similar characteristics as for socio-economic status, physical activity and age for a whole sample of 616 subjects. We handled them a validated lifestyle questionnaire. The questionnaire analysis was used to compare OW+OB and NW participants, as far as eating habits, sedentary activities and time spent in sports. All the subjects frequently skipped breakfast, did not consume fruit and vegetables daily and had a high soft drinks intake. Inverse correlations were found between weight and physical activity (p=0.01). Sedentary activities were preferred by about 25% and 66 % of the NW and OW+OB groups respectively. The percentage of smokers was similar within the two groups (14%).
Conclusions: Adolescents eating habits are incorrect, despite BMI and sports practice. Sports practice seems contributing to lower spare time physical inactivity, but does not improve eating habits. Public health interventions should focus on the reinforcement of leisure time physical activity, besides nutrition education and behavioral education programs in order to prevent obesity in the adulthood.

A Comparative Study Establishing the Importance of Physiotherapeutic Principl...IOSR Journals
This research proposal for PhD studies in Physiotherapy aims towards healthy, happy and independent
geriatric life style. In the past few years the interest in body composition, nutritional status and physical
independence in elderly people has markedly increased because of the increasing number of elderly people in
the general population and its implication for geriatric health care 1-2
. Advancing age results in body
composition changes such as decrease in fat free mass 3-4
, and increase in fat mass 4-6
. Also, the amount of
minerals in the fat free mass changes 7
; as does the ratio of total body water in form of intercellular to
intracellular water 8-12. Geriatric ageing is usually characterized by loss of skeletal muscle mass and function,
termed as sarcopenia13. Both physical inactivity and inadequate nutritional intake are the main contributing
factors to sarcopenia and reduction in fat free mass 14-15. These changes have been associated with dramatic
functional decline, physical frailty, falls in elderly and a bad quality of geriatric life 16-18.Until now very few
studies have investigated both the effects of (a) nutritional supplementation and (b) exercises on nutritional
status, body composition and muscular function among geriatric population 19-21.

Cardiovascular diseases are considered as one of the threats to human
health, especially, in individuals with overweight. The aim of this study was to
investigate the effect of eight-week aerobic exercises in 10 to 12 years old overweight
girls. In this study, 27 overweight female student whit 10-12 years old were selected
and were randomly divided into two groups; a) training group (n=17) and b) control
group (n=10). Training group participated into the aerobic training for 8 weeks, with
70-85 percent of heart rate reserve maximum, 3 times a week and 60 minutes in each
session. The variables such as BF, BMI, WHR and VO2max, were measured in two
groups before and after the training period. The average of variables such as BF, BMI
and VO2max were significantly different between two groups (P<0.05). But the
average of WHR were not significantly different between two groups. According to
these results, aerobic exercise in 10-12 years old overweight girls, can have beneficial
effects on some cardiovascular risk factors.
Physical Activity Level Analyses and Chronic-Degenerative Disease Risks In Do...IJERDJOURNAL
Abstract:- It is of common belief that physical activity can restore damages caused to people's health due to the stressful everyday work routine. The energy expenditure on physical activities is directly related to the frequency, duration and intensity of human movements developed on many tasks. Thus, the main objective of this paper was to evaluate this energy consumption in public school teachers from the city of Horizonte, Ceara, discussing about degenerative chronic disease risks. 30 teachers, 9 men and 21 women within the age of 25 to 59 years old, were evaluated. Their Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated in order to classify them as normal, overweight and obese. As an instrument, the long version of the International Physical Activity Questionnarie (IPAQ) was used, once it is more recommended to national prevalence studies due to the possibility of international comparison. This instrument contains several questions related to frequency (days per week) and duration (time per day) spent on moderate and vigorous physical activities and walking. The questionnarie also captures the energy expenditure in METs, in order to classify the selected individuals according to intensity: “sedentary” (< 1,5 METs), “low” (1,5 < METs < 3,0), “moderate” (3,9 < METs < 5,9) and “high” (≥ 6,0 METs). These analyses were performed using the Epi Info™ program, which used descriptive statistics. The results showed that the teachers present a good level of physical activity with 46,67% classified as high, 40% as moderate and 13,13% as low. The individuals also presented significant degree of overweight and obesity, 43% and 34% respectively, and only 23% within the acceptable weight range. Therefore, it could be concluded that, among the modifiable risk factors, the physical activity and the body mass control play important roles when it comes to chronic-degenerative disease prevention
Cronic Energy Deficiency And Body Mass Index of Bhotia Tribal Children of Gar...inventionjournals
In the present study, an attempt has been made to use age and sex specific Body Mass Index thresholds for Bhotia tribal children of Garhwal Himalayas. BMI cut-off points for thinness grades 1, 2, 3 age and sex wise percentile curves passing through BMI of 16, 17, and 18.5 and for normal range of BMI of 18.5 to 23 kg/m2 have been used to evaluate the status of children as normal, overweight and obese. A total of 643 children (336 boys and 307 girls) aged 6 – 18 years had participated in the present study. Bhotia tribe is one of the oldest inhabitants of mountains region of Garhwal and Kumaun, Central Himalaya. Rice and millets is the staple food of Bhotias and salty butter tea or namkeen chai (Jya) is also consumed very frequently by them wild herbs and medicinal plants also contribute to their diet. Present study revealed that prevalence cronic energy deficency of grade-one thinness was 13.02 percent among girls and 6.84 percent among boys, Boys also having grade two and three (0.29%) thinness, 88.69 percent boys and 75.24 percent girls were having their BMI normal. The frequency of overweight individuals was 3.86 percent among the boys and 11.72 percent among girls, No child has been identified as obese. This is probably because the Bhotias lived in high altitude mountainous region where supplies of nutritious and surplus food through out the year is a difficult task, girls makes a better use of their provided food and manage to put subcutaneous fat on their body whereas boys merely maintained normal health, this may be because of the advantageous double x-gene in the case of girls.

intracellular water 8-12.

A Study on Prevalence of Obesity and Overweight among Adolescent GirlsAI Publications
The unabated rise in the prevalence of overweight in adolescents is one of the most alarming public health issues facing the world. The prevalence of obesity and overweight was determined among 732 affluent adolescent girls of Bengaluru. The results indicated that 21.17% of the girls were overweight and 13.38% were obese. Information regarding knowledge, attitude and dietary & lifestyle practices of 98 obese and 155 overweight adolescent girls was collected using a structured questionnaire. It was seen that although 49% of the adolescent girls had fair knowledge, and all the subjects had positive attitudes towards nutrition and healthy lifestyle, a negative correlation was seen between Knowledge and Practice; and Attitude and Practice. Faulty dietary practices such as irregular meal pattern, frequent consumption of energy dense, high calorie food and drinks and physical inactivity were seen to be the main causes of obesity and overweight in the girls. It was also seen that the intake of protein and fat was significantly higher (p<0.05) than the RDA for obese and overweight adolescents.
Prevalence of Undernutrition among Baalwadi Going Children between 2 5 Years ...ijtsrd
Children are the backbone of any country. Under nutrition is the underlying cause of more than half of all deaths in children aged less than five years worldwide. This study was designed majorly to study the prevalence of undernutrition in children. The objectives of the study were to assess the prevalence of undernutrition stunting, underweight and wasting in children between 2 5 years of age and to analyse major determinants influencing undernutrition. 102 children aged between 2 5 years of age were selected from two different baalwadis of Mumbai through purposive, random sampling. Socio demographic data was collected using a self designed, structured questionnaire from mothers. Anthropometric measurements like weight, height, MUAC were done to determine nutritional status. Anthropometric data revealed that out of total children screened n=102 , 34 children were well nourished and 66 children were undernourished where 27 children were underweight, 24 were wasted 16 were stunted. 55 children had low MUAC. The factors that were found to be significantly associated with child undernutrition were age p=0.046 , gender p=0.000 , maternal education p=0.007 , employment status of mother p=0.001 and number of meals taken by the child daily p=0.000 . The prevalence of undernutrition among children of Baalwadi was high considering the sample size was small. ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: While studies have determined the importance of physical activity in
advancing health outcomes, relatively few have explored the relationship between
exercise and various health behaviors of adolescents. The purpose of this study is to
examine the relationship between frequency and intensity of physical activity and both
health risk and health promoting behaviors of adolescents.
METHODS:
Data were collected from 822 students attending a large, diverse suburban high school
in northeast Florida using a self-administered survey. Multivariate analysis of variance
(MANOVA) and analysis of variance (ANOVA) tests examined differences on mean
health behavior measures on 3 exercise frequency levels (low, medium, and high) and
2 intensity levels (vigorous physical activity [VPA] and moderate physical activity [MPA]).
RESULTS: Results showed adolescents engaged in high levels of VPA used marijuana
less frequently (p = .05) and reported heavy use of marijuana less frequently (p = .03);
consumed greater numbers of healthy carbohydrates (p < .001) and healthy fats in their
diets (p < .001); used stress management techniques more frequently (p < .001); and
reported a higher quality of sleep (p = .01) than those engaged in low levels of VPA.
Fewer differences were found on frequency of MPA and health behaviors of adolescents.
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that adolescents who frequently participate
in VPA may be less likely to engage in drug use, and more likely to participate in a
number of health promoting behaviors. Longitudinal and experimental studies are
needed to determine what role frequent VPA may play in the onset and maintenance of
health enhancing and protecting behaviors among adolescent populations.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

I. Introduction
Nutritional status during school age is a major determinant of nutritional and health status in adult life.
Globally, including in India, health hazards associated with under nutrition and micronutrient deficiencies
remain major public health problems. In the second half of the previous century, the adverse effects of under
nutrition and anaemia on physical performance were extensively investigated in adults. Many studies showed
that under nutrition and anaemia had an adverse impact on performance and consequently led to reduction in
wages for persons employed in manual labour.
The past three decades have witnessed the emergence of over nutrition as a problem in school-age
children in developed countries and in affluent urban segments in developing countries. In developed countries,
the consumption of high-calorie food and the increasingly sedentary lifestyle have been implicated as the major
factors responsible for the rising obesity rates. In India there has not been a substantial increase in energy intake
among children except those in urban affluent families. The increasing obesity rates in children are attributable
mainly to the substantial reduction in physical activity in the form of household chores, methods of commuting
(the use of mortised conveyances instead of walking or cycling) and methods of recreation (with computer
games and TV watching having replaced physical play) over the past two decades. Overweight children are at

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The main purpose of the study is to find out if there is any relationship
between Nutrition status and Physical fitness of school going boys. To identify the health related fitness
components. To find out the influence of different nutrition status on the various motor quality variables.
Present study was conducted to know the status of relationship between nutrition status and selected
motor performance variables for primary school boys.
A total of 44 boys within the age group of 8-9 years. The subjects were selected randomly with the help
of drawing lots for the present study. The subjects were selected from rural areas of West Bengal. The rural area
subjects were selected from the Puratan Pitamberpur Primary School and Chapra Primary School. The life style

II. Gomez’ Classification
Gomez’ classification is based on weight retardation which was used to categorize the children on the basis of
nutrition status. It locates the child on the basis of his or her weight in comparison with a normal child of the
same age.
Formula for weight percentage calculation:
Grade Weight-for-age
Normal nutritional status Between 90 & 110%
1st
*,mild malnutrition Between 75 and 89%
2nd
*,moderate malnutrition Between 60 and 74%
3rd
*,severe malnutrition Under 60%
First of all the investigator like to mention that according to the nature of the study the subjects were categorized
into three different groups Mild, Moderate and Normal, on the basis of their Nutrition Status i.e. weight for age.
The formula and the norms of which has been presented if chapter III earlier.

III. With Respect To Height And Weight:
From the table it appears that in both the cases of height and body weight the children with normal
nutrition status are better that their mild malnutrition counterpart and similarly the children with mild
malnutrition are better in comparison to the children with moderate malnutrition. The table also depicts some
differences with respect to motor performance variables scores and for which ANOVA was computed to locate
the degree of difference between the means and further multiple comparison was also executed to find out the
inter difference between the groups.

4. A Study on the Relationship between Nutrition Status and Physical Fitness of School Boys.

With respect to motor performance variables: According to table no.2.The mean value in 50 mt. is lowest for
boys with normal nutrition, lower for boys with mild malnutrition and highest for boys with moderate
malnutrition. Similarly from the table value it appears that the mean value in case of 600 mts. run and walk
performance of the boys with normal nutrition status is lower than those of the boys with mild and moderate
nutrition status. The result is same incase of
Standing broad jump and sit up i.e. in both of these cases the means values for the boys with normal nutrition
are higher than those of the boys with mild malnutrition and values are higher for boys with mild malnutrition
than those of the boys with moderate malnutrition. The scenario is somehow different in case of the variables
shuttle run and pull up. In case of pull up the mean value for boys with moderate malnutrition shows highest
value in comparison to those of mild and normal nutrition status. While in case of shuttle run the mean value are
nearly equal for boys with mild and normal nutrition but for boys with moderate malnutrition the value is lower.
Table 3. shows the analysis of variance for motor performance variables.

The F scores presented in table no.3 reveals that there was no. significant difference between the
different nutrition status groups with respect to motor performance variables except the variable sit up which
shows significant difference at 0.02 levels. Though in the cases of 50 mt dash, and 600 mts. run the F values are
near to significant.
In this regard the following research findings may be cited.
Sarah et al. (2003) reached to the conclusion in his study on adolescent boys that on several measures
underweight boys were less likely to be physically active that boys of normal weight.
Taylor et al. (1991) investigate in a sample of 93 high adiposity and 93 low adiposity children ages 8 to 13 with
cardiovascular fitness as the dependent variable, relationships with habitual level of physical activity, age
gender and body mass index (BMI). For the high adiposity sample, physical activity score, age, BMI were
significant and the overall model was significant (P, less than 0.001). In the low adiposity sample they were
significantly related to cardiovascular fitness but the overall model was not significant (P, less that 0.35)
physical activity score thus was a significant predictor of cardiovascular fitness among the high adiposity
children but not the low adiposity children.
Thus it may be inferred that the findings of the present study are in close proximity with the findings of
some leading researchers
Further multiple comparisons (presented in table no. 4)were computed to find inter group difference.
The result presented in the table shows significant difference between mild and normal nutritional status boys in
50 mts. dash. In sit up performance significant difference was established between boys of mild and normal
nutrition status. Significant difference was also established between boys of mild and normal nutrition status
with respect to performance in 600 mts. run& walk.

* The mean difference is significant at the .05 level.
From the data analysis it can also be inferred that the motor performance variables like 50 mts. dash,
600 mts. run & walk, and sit up are influenced by the nutrition status of an individual to the greater extent or in
other way it can be deduced that the fitness variable like sit up, 50 mts. dash and 600 mts. run are determinants
of nutrition status of an individual.
IV. Conclusion
The findings of the present study lead to the following conclusions:
There was no. significant difference between the different nutrition status groups with respect to motor
performance variables except the variable sit up which shows significant difference at 0.02 level. though in the
cases of 50 mt dash, and 600 mts. run the F values are near to significant.
