What comes into
your mind when you
hear the word
bacteria?
Kingdom Eubacteria
Eubateria characteristics
1.Cell wall
2.True bacteria
3.Cannot survive in extreme environment
Cell wall are made of
1.Peptidoglycan- is responsible for
the rigidity of bacteria
2. Carbohydrate – they only on the
extracellular side of cell wall
Basic shape of bacteria
1. Cocci
2.Bacilli
3.Spirilla
Cocci- Spherical shape bacterium
- Diplococci- pair of cocci
- Streptococci- Raws or chain of cocci
- Straphyloccoci- grapelike cluster of
cocci
Diplococci Streptococci Staphylococci
Bacilli- Rod shape
• Streptobacillus also occur in chain
Streptobacillus
Spirillum- Rod shape and spherical shape
Common disease in human
caused by bacteria
Propionibacterium acnes- cause pimple
and acne
Pimple causes
1. Almost all teens get acne and pimple
“this is part of teens experience”
2. Oily substance called “sebum”
Mycobacterium tuberculosis- Cause TB or tuberculosis
Leptospira interrogans- Leptospirosis
• This bacteria are present in
the urine and tissues of cattle pigs,
horses, dogs, rats and wild animals
• Larges number of leptospira bacteria
are in the urine of rats
Bacillus anthracis- Anthrax
“Disease affects animals like cows and carabaos
and can be transmitted to humans”
“Year 2000 they use bacillus anthracis
to kill people in USA”
Importance of Bacteria
Used as antibiotic (Streptomycin) is an antibiotic drug,
the first of class of drug, and it was the first
effective treatment for tuberculosis
E. Coli or Escherichia Coli naturally found in the large
intestine of humans. These bacteria meanwhile
provide the much needed vitamin B12
Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptobacillus thermophilus
Theses are specially involved in making sour milk or
Yogurt. Lactase in the bacteria changes the milk sugar into
Lactic acid, which gives yogurt its semi-liquid texture.
