Comparing Skepticism And Dreaming Argument
Skepticism is one of the most important debates in philosophy, skepticism could be describe as the
doubt or refusing attitude towards reality and knowledge. This idea of doubting knowledge has
been around since the 1st century BC with the foundation of the Greek skeptic school known as
Pyrrhonism. Since that time, the idea of skepticismhas remained the same and many people from
our time still questioning themselves about reality; How can I be certain about reality, if I
cannot even trust my own senses? . One of the many examples of this belief is Rene Descartes
and his famous Dreaming Argument ; where he states that everything that we know is only part
of a dream, a dream where nobody wants to wake up because we feel comfortable on it and we are
afraid that reality could be cruel. However, due to the fact that skepticism is a very controversial
idea, another group of people emerged to denied skepticism.... Show more content on

Just as there are several philosophers that belief in skepticism, there also exist a counterpart, a
group of philosophers that think that skepticism is an absurd concept. One of the anti skeptic
members is the famous English philosopher G.E. Moore. One of Moore s most famous works is
A Defense of Common Sense in which he tries to deny skepticism by saying that there are several
things that we are absolutely convince on, things like common sense. Moore begins his Defense of
Common Sense by simply enunciating a list of truism to prove that he has at least some
knowledge, and that there are at least some beliefs about the world that we certainly know about.
On this first section Moore starts saying:
I. I know that I was born at some point of time.
II. I have continued to exist since the time I was

Child Left Behind Act
The possible risks of passing a child to the next grade level due to the No Child Left Behind Act
(NCLB) could affect children from being the next leaders of America. So much that it has had a
tremendous impact on their quality of education, testing skills, learning, and funding. The No
Child Left Behind Act was passed in the year of 2002. It was established to require states and
school districts to ensure that all of the students are learning and are reaching their highest potential.
It is true that every student can learn, however not on the same day or in the same way. Since the
act was passed their policies has changed and so has many of the students situations have changed
since then. In spite of the fact that, the polices has changed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Yes, some policies and guidelines have been changed, but is it growing with the different
communities and disadvantaged students? When the No Child Left Behind Act was implemented
and signed by President George W. Bush in 2002 it was designed to hold the schools accountable
for the children s education (Klein, 2015). In order for our children to become the next leaders of
America our educational system must be changed as well. If the funding can be provided as it is,
then the time, quality of education, testing skills, and learning abilities can be increased. After all,
the school boards of education across the United States is committed to its mission of preparing all

Nature
What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, men would die from great loneliness of
spirit, for whatever happens to the beasts, also happens to man. All things are connected. Whatever
befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth.
Chief Seattle
The love I have for orangutans comes from an early age. Like most little sisters, my older brother
ruthlessly teased me. When I was a baby he would make me mimic funny faces and stick my hair up
on end. He said I looked like an orangutan. His teasing continued, but instead of getting mad, I
became interested. I began taking a look at these creatures and soon discovered that being compared
to one wasn t completely wrong. Actually,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, this is no longer the case, and natives are stripping away these creatures habitats for
commercial business. If things don t change, it is believed that orangutans will be extinct in the
wild in as few as ten years. This is something that can only be changed with human intervention.
Two major causes of orangutan endangerment are the illegal selling of baby orangutans and the
unlawful logging of the rainforest in which they live. The bond between a mother orangutan and
her baby is the longest childhood dependence of any animal in the world. Orangutans will only
have one child about every eight years. Baby orangutans nurse until they are about six years old
and then they still stay close to their mothers for a few more years. Female orangutans will
sometimes stay with their mother until their adolescents, in order to learn how to take care of their
own babies by watching their mothers take care of a younger sibling.
The already low natural population increase makes any killing a major threat to the survival of the
species. Because babies stay with their mother for so many years, the only way to capture one is to
kill the mother. Although highly illegal, baby orangutans are being sold as family pets as a high
commodity on the black market. When the babies

Tiebout Case Study
Charles Tiebout believed that people move from one political administration to another in search of
their interests in government taxes and spending. This theory suggest that people choose
government in the same way as they choose their car, a home or any other things of their daily life.
However this shopping is affected by some other factors (Encyclonomic, 2000 2016).
The Tiebout theory says that people have two options for affecting the job of local government
participation in economy. People can vote to replace the government which not of their will, or
they move to some other place which offers a more preferred policies (Taxes). These options
improve the assignment of resources matching the government activity with consumer favors.
While there is a problem, all people don t have the same resources to relocate themselves to place
which better suits them. Some people have job problems which stop them from relocation, while
some has some bond with the community where they are living. On the other hand economists
adopt only practically possible thing from Tiebout model.
The positive view of Tiebout is that we don t have to take care of the local government approach.
The government has to make stable and reasonable rules of taxes and benefits to make people stay
or choose them, on the other hand if government fails to maintain cost benefit ratio they have to

Economic Models after World War II
A widespread view developed among economists and policymakers in the early post World War II
period Import substitution policies were popular amongst developing economies was that the best
way for these countries to develop more rapidly was to stimulate industrialisation by adopting
import substitution policies. At the time, there seemed to be a number of good reasons for such an
approach. The policy makers of the newly independent nations were keenly aware not only that
most of the countries from whom they obtained independence had much higher per capita income
levels and were much more industrialised but that their former rulers had imposed economic
policies in the past which discouraged industrialisation within the new nations and industrialisation
seemed to offer the possibility of achieving faster growth, higher per capita income levels and the
economic and military power needed for national security. An economically sensible way of
achieving industrialisation seemed to be to restrict imports of manufactured goods for which there
already was a domestic demand in order both to shift this demand toward domestic producers and
permit the use of the country s primary product export earnings to import the capital goods needed
for industrialisation. There also appeared to be a number of examples where high levels of import
protection contributed positively to industrialisation. Although Great Britain had adopted a policy
of free trade during its period of rapid growth in the

A Lesson before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines Essay
A Lesson before Dying, one of Ernest J. Gaines later works, was written in 1993. Some of his
earlier works include A Gathering of Old Men and In My Father s House. The novel covers a
time period when blacks were still treated unfairly and looked down upon. Jefferson, a main
character, has been wrongly accused of a crime and awaits his execution in jail. Grant, the story s
main protagonist must find it within himself to help Jefferson see that he is a man, which will
allow him to walk bravely to his fate that lies in the execution chair. A Lessonbefore Dying captures
the tale of a young teacher, who by helping another mistakenly finds his own soul. This paper
explains the literary background of Gaines, facts about the novel, literary... Show more content on

It was here that Gaines discovered his passion for writing.(Discovering Authors 1). His first novel
was published in 1964. He began to receive awards, his most famous becoming the Autobiography
of Miss Jane Pitman.
Becoming a highly analyzed novel, many critics speak about their feelings. Carl Senna, one a
literary critic, discusses the reasons for lack of communication in A Lesson before Dying. A large
part of their communication problem comes directly from their class differences. Although Grant
is not considered rich, he is well educated and lives rather comfortably, whereas Jefferson is
nearly illiterate and has been a struggling farmhand most of his life. This gap that separates them
makes it very difficult for them to speak. Neither one of them is at fault for this, but it frustrates
Jefferson to the point where he often wants to leave the jail cell and not return. Also Grant speaks
with Jefferson reluctantly, prompted by his aunt, a moralizing scold and a nag (Senna 5). Another
good point Senna makes is that because of the time period, blacks were struggling to become equals
and were more engrossed with their own wants and needs than worrying about Jefferson. Yes, they
all realized that he is innocent but they are not at a time where they can fight for the innocence of
this young boy. Therefore Grant becomes their instrument in trying to save him[Jefferson] from
disgrace (Senna 5). Jefferson was not seen as much to these

Pros And Cons Of The LGBTQ Strife In Japan
LGBTQ Strife in Japan The LGBTQ community, around the world, objectively has been treated as
a minority group. Because of this, today we can see efforts that resemble the American civil rights
movement take place. Those who patriciate, do so because this marginalized group has a history of
being discriminated against in more ways than one. Japan though is unique in this aspect. The
LGBTQ community historically has mostly been free to do as they please. It wasn t until recently
that they saw their rights being restricted. Japan has the west to thank for this. Gay marriage is
illegal in Japan. According to Japanese law, they do not have the right to marry but homosexuality
itself is allowed. Why this is will be explained later. Some positives of today are that the age of
consent remains the same as heterosexuals and the idea of conversion therapy is banned
(Equaldex). Unfortunately, that is basically were the positives end. Japanese law is very ambiguous
on several topics when it comes to homosexuals. This is due to the recent awareness of the issue
and action has not been taken yet given the small timeframe; more on that later. Some of these
ambiguous restrictions include, the ability to adopt children, and joining the military. Perhaps the
reasoning for the adoption restriction is fueled by the thought that the homosexual parent(s) will
give the child the wrong idea about what family is supposed to be. However, the restriction on
military service though seems to lack

Empowerment in the Workplace
Introduction
I am actually going to look at two areas, Empowerment in combination with Delegation. Not only
do I think I can improve in these areas but it will also improve the well being of my employees. I
want people to feel about work how I did a few years back. You learnt and contributed as much as
you could. You did not В‘clock watch and you were eager and hungry for more work I believe I
was an empowered employee.
The long hours I have been working has lead me to believe I need to empower my employees and
also delegate successfully to them. When I actually go on holiday I find myself at work very late
trying to В‘tidy up so I can go with a clear conscious. I find myself sharing more information in the
day before I go on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basically the mission statement is trying to raise my awareness and skill in the area of
empowerment, being more conscious of the techniques used and needed to raise employee
empowerment.
When preparing the mission statement it was interesting to take note of the following:
Both management and employees interpret empowerment from their own viewpoints to suit their
own needs and build up expectations of what the programme will bring. For management,
empowerment promises a more committed and involved workforce who are willing to take
responsibility at lower levels. Whilst for employees, empowerment pledges autonomy and the
ability to move to a more equitable position within their organization. The failure of these
expectations to share similar intentions or goals means that the psychological contract between
management and worker could fail, promoting feelings of is trust on both sides (Hill Huq, 2004)
So when developing this mission statement I need to account not only management s perspective
but the alternate view of the employee s perspective.
Personal Mission Statement
My name is x and my mission is to empower my employees.
I want the individuals to become a team. I want my team to make personal sacrifices, perform

The New York Time Article By Timothy William Essay
In the New York Time Article by Timothy William, Inquiry to Examine Racial Bias in the San
Francisco Police Department, first thing to remember known as implied social perception, implicit
bias refers to the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an
unconscious manner. Another key point of argument is that there is no systematic bias in the
criminal justice base on race. To point out, in performing their policing duties, policeofficer are able
to exercise a high degree of discretion. This means that they have a have a broad freedom to
make a decision about how to act on the given situation. For this reason some police officer
deliberately use their wide power of discretion and their authority to perform acts of misconduct.
In this article it is generally agreed that discrimination based on racial or ethnic origin is morally
wrong and a violation of the principle of impartiality. In fact impartiality principles requires that
those who are equal be treated equally based on similarities, and that race not be a relevant
consideration in the assessment. However, in May, District Attorney George Gascon appointed a
three judge body of distinguished jurists to look into bias in the department following a series of
misconduct scandals, the most troubling being a group of police officers who were caught sending
racist text messages. Now, the scope, aim, participants and timeline of the ongoing investigation
have been revealed in a series

Yolanda, travels to the Dominican Republic in order to search for her cultural and personal identity.
Her difficulty interacting and relating to her old family members before she immigrated to America
reflects the emotional hardship of immigration.
The setting of this story is crucial to the plot of the story because it changes frequently to
distinguish social class and amount of wealth, as well as shifting perspectives. Yolanda

Yolanda, after having been away for so many years, cannot express herself fluently in Spanish
anymore, so it is very hard to communicate with her family in the same as she used to, highlighting
another hardship of immigration. Her initial distrust of men we see near the middle of the
reading reflects her fears of the Dominican Republic after five years of being away. This is very
important to the arc of the story and simply to her character development as a whole because
though she should be at home in her home country, she feels like a foreigner and is more
comfortable being treated as such when the men confront her at her car and asked if she spoke
Spanish. Yolanda also consistently predicts the wrong reaction from people she meets in the
Dominican Republic. She expects the two men with machetes to kill her and steal her things,
when in fact they were actually trying to help her. They ended up changing the tire on her car
and walking away. She also expects the security guard at the mansion to respect the young boy,
Jose, she sends for help. Instead, the security guard punishes and beats the boy for lying, because
he did not believe a Dominican woman would be by herself alone in the night with an expensive
car. This shows very well

Analysis Of The Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao
Interpretation of literature
Keenan Walsh
The Importance Of Perspective
In many cultures, especially today s America many people do not believe in curses or do not take
them seriously. However in the Dominican culture, the curse of the Fuku is life or death. If you are
cursed with it you and your family will receive bad luck for all your lives. The Brief Wondrous Life
Of Oscar Wao is a story about a Dominican family, the Cabrals, who receive this curseand the text
follows the horrors they experience. The story is told from multiple points of view members of
the Cabral family and those close to them. In The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao, Junot Diaz
uses Different points of view of characters to explore the thematic concern of the magical element
of the Fuku and how it effects each character. It is important for Diaz to use these different points
of view to show the power and realism of this curse, especially in the Dominican culture.
Junot Diaz uses the shifting points of view to introduce the reader to how the Fuku began in the
family by showing the effects it had on Aberlard Cabral. It stays within his bloodline and it
immediately destroys his life. Trujillo is described as either the curses servant or its master. (3)
and he possesses the power to use the curse. When Aberlard Cabral insulted the great Trujillo, he
and his family were cursed. Out of his fear of Trujillo finding out he had been hiding his wife and
his daughter from him, Aberlard writes a book he

The future growth of the world s largest company hinges on its supercenter format, a bold
evolution that made it the nation s largest grocer in a few short years. While proposals for big box

sharp focus by concentrating substantial wage impacts on one group, grocery workers. The first
Wal Mart Supercenters opened in 1988 which combined the discount outlets and grocery stores

User Fees
State and local governments over the past several decades have seen a dramatic decrease in state
and local government revenue. This is partly due to the reduction of the amount of revenue
states and local governments can obtain from property taxes due constraints and the reduction
in federal and state aid at the local level. As a result, state and local governments have turned to
the idea of charging user fees. User fees are a fees charged for the use of a products or services.
Unlike a tax, which is imposed on the general population of a state or local municipality, a user
fee is only charged to an individual when that individual uses that product or service. An example
of a user fee would a toll charge. Not all citizens must pay a toll charge.... Show more content on

People are willing to except an increase in user fees because there is nothing forcing a person to
pay any particular user fee. Increasing taxes is hard because the general population must pay a
tax increase whether they disagree with the increase or not. If an individual does not agree with
the increase in a particular fee then they simple can schoose to not use a particular service or
product. Additionally, user fees also allow for local government to diversify revenue sources.
Meaning that user fees can be generated from different sources such as golf course fees,
swimming pool fees and fees for entrances to national parks. The fees charged tend to have prices
that reflect the true cost of production. This means that individuals pay fees that tend to reflect the
actual cost of operating a product or service. People begin to see a direct link between payment and
benefit. At the same time individuals see the benefit of user fees related to the benefits provided,
local governments are able to track which services local communities want. This reduces the
amount of money local governments spend on products and services there community does not

Comparing Dr. Moreau And The Beetle
In two fin de siГЁcle novels, H.G. Wells s The Island of Dr. Moreau (1896) and Robert Marsh s
The Beetle (1897), sadism plays a central role. However, while The Island of Dr. Moreau and The
Beetle both include characters that exemplify sadism, the novels differ greatly in the characters
portrayals due to the sadistic characters gender. The sadistic Moreau is presented as Machiavellian
tyrant. However, because Moreau s gender aligns with ideas of gendered sadism, the novel does
not portray him as degenerate, monstrous, nor ambiguous. In contrast, The Beetle tampers with the
sadistic female body, which leads to doubt of her true sex and form and leaves her as an

A perplexing amalgamation of culture and nature led to the pathologizing of sexual perversion
by 19th century sexologists (Peakman 1). Richard von Krafft Ebing first introduced the term
sadism in his book Psychopathic Sexualis (1886). Sadism includes the experience of mental and
physical suffering as pleasurable (Holguin 1285). Later defined as one of the modern perversions
by Sigmund Freud, it was traditionally seen as existing within the male domain (Schaffner 182),
and as a type of male sexual cruelty (Wayne 542). Furthering Krafft Ebing s work, Freud suggests
that sadism s life preserving aggression in males is natural and biologically determined (Holguin

Premature Infant Stimulation
It is known that then stimulation of infants during the first few months is important for proper
development to take place. Following, we will review the importance of both a stimulating
environment and the need for physical stimulation provided by caregivers.
A lot of emphasis has been placed on physical, mother infant, interaction, but studies have shown
that inanimate stimulation is as important as social stimulation. Yarrow, Rubenstein, Pedersen, and
Jankowski (1972) examined the importance of stimulation from caregiver interaction and the
natural environment. The emphasis of their work was to study the impact of disadvantaged
environments on infant development. What their work did show was that the environment of the

When we look at infants in orphanages in Romania, we find children that are deprived of the
complex physical contact normally received by other children that have a dedicated caregiver.
These children show serious intellectual deficits, and although they show improvement later, they
never catch up to their peers who were raised in more traditional environments (Berk, 2014). When
we look at premature infants, who spend a large amount of their time in incubators, we find that
they show slower gains in mass and motor function then their peers. Now, when premature infants
are given 15 minutes of mechanosensory stimulation, three times a day for ten days, they show an
increase in weight along with more time awake and active. They also would show more
improvement than their unstimulated peers based on the Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral
Assessment Scale (Ardiel Rankin, 2010)
The effects of stimulation on infant development cannot be understated. The more research that has
gone into the importance of this the more emphasis is placed on attempting to correct sensory
deprivation. In hospital NICUs we see more interaction with children that are born premature. We
are also seeing a greater emphasis on placing orphaned children into homes where they can benefit
from direct caregiver contact and have a more stimulating environment to explore. Now, more than
in the past, we see the need

Marine Ecosystem Causes of Degradation and Case Studywhat...
What is the Marine Ecosystem?
Marine ecosystems are among the largest of Earth s aquatic ecosystems. It covers almost 70% of
the earth s surface. They include oceans, salt marsh and intertidal ecology, estuaries and lagoons,
mangroves and coral reefs, the deep sea and the sea floor. They can be contrasted with freshwater
ecosystems, which have a lower salt content.
Why is the Marine Ecosystem important?
Marine ecosystems are very important in to the overall health of both marine and terrestrial
environments. According to the World Resources Centre, coastal habitats alone account for
approximately 1/3 of all marine biological productivity, and estuarine ecosystems (i.e., salt marshes,

The pacific garbage patch
Hidden, tucked away in no man s land between Hawaii and San Francisco lies a floating continent
composed entirely of garbage. This environmentalist s nightmare is at a staggering size twice the
size of Texas. It is around 1400000 kmВІ, consisting of mostly plastic and other waste matter, and is
the largest landfill in the world. There is roughly 3,340,000 pieces of rubbish/kmВІ with an average
mass of 5.1kg/kmВІ. It has numerous names like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, the Eastern
Garbage Patch or the Pacific Trash Vortex.
Some experts believe that the floating continent actually consists of two patches, Eastern and
Western connected by a thin 6000km current called the Subtropical Convergence Zone which
itself consists of a strip of rubbish. Waste that can float from all present day civilizations
eventually end up at this island , sometimes after periods of up to 12 years. Many animals such

the character of Yoshitsune is different and comparable in many ways.
Yoshitsune was a young boy in Ushiwakamaru when his father died in a battle against the Taira
clan. After the death of his father, the Taira captured the retired emperor Go Shirakawa and ever
since the Minamoto was trying to retain the power to the emperor. As Yoshitsune grew up, he
trained to become a samurai and join the Minamoto to cease revenge of the Taira. He directed
many battles and was seen as a hero to the Minamoto and others becoming their military
commander. In the perspective of the Taria, Yoshitsune was seen as a War God that killed off many
of their men. In Samurai Rising it stated that Go Shirakawa and his son, Prince Mochihito was an

modern, affordable structure but strong and quick deployed. However, as shipping container home
is quite new, few concerns remain to be responded in order to gain people s trust in its reliability.
One of the main concerns is the insulation. The shipping container is actually built for cargo

External insulation helps you to not reduce your internal space. It prevents hot or cold weather to
reach the steel surface thus maintaining the internal space relatively conditioned. It also keeps
the water away from the steel and prevents corrosion and helps prolong its life. Internal
insulation is more preferred as it hides the corrugated steel walls from inside and you would not
feel you re inside a shipping container at all. However, internal insulation has similar impact in
keeping the building conditioned but the external surface remains vulnerable to water and
moisture which lead to corrosion in the welding parts, though the containers are initially specially
epoxy paint treated in order to resist humidity in ports and though ocean conditions. However,
there are a third option; combination of internal and external. Besides you use internal insulation,
we highly recommend those living in hot or rainy climate areas to have a second roof and wall
sidings in order to make the external more aesthetic but foremost, it helps you greatly to save the
container shell from direct sunshine in hot climate and corrosion and likely leakage in rainy
conditions. What type of insulation should be used? There are various types of insulation products.
Most of our customers choose to go with Fiberglass material insulation which is the same type of
insulation you find in many conventional homes. As shown in the chart above, at a thickness of 3

Globalization and the International Monetary Community Essay
Executive Summary
Our world is steadily shrinking. Technology is building bridges over the barriers of distance,
language, and culture. It s a process called globalization, and it is changing the way we live.
Financial institutions haven t been immune to the effects of this change. In fact, the international
nature of financial institutions makes them particularly vulnerable to change. This paper addresses
three issues caused by the globalization of the international monetary community.
First this paper examines the success of the Euro, and the implications for the formation of a global
currency. Then this paper looks at the issue of devaluation, and by comparing successful and
unsuccessful devaluations tries to determine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humanity s life got much easier when money was invented. From ten foot tall coins to small
strips of paper, currency is one of the most important inventions the human race has discovered.
The invaluable ability to trade any item for a standard of value is what makes economy
possible. Today, currency issues face the looming prospect of globalization. Like a tornado on
the horizon, globalization is threatening to reform international currency into a twisted shape
unlike anything we have ever seen. This paper addresses some of the major currency issues
facing international financial organizations today. First the success and growing pains of the
Euro will be discussed, with an emphasis on the implication of the Euro s success on world
currency. Next this paper will look at the devaluation of currency. The paper will also analyze
what makes devaluation successful, and how devaluations are sometimes simply legalized theft
from a country s money holders. The final issue brought up by this paper is the rising trend of
dollarization. Shaky economies are using the dollar to stabilize their currency, and more is being
discovered about the implications of this practice all the time. The international currency
community is facing many opportunities and challenges, a few of which are listed above.
Hopefully these issues will paint a broad picture of a global financial community about to be
picked up, spun around, and deposited in a

Lung cancer is a dangerous health problem which affects many people (Thomas, 2013). It
becomes the top killer among other types of cancers in the world (Molina, Yang, Cassivi, Schild
Adjei, 2008). According to the statistics made by National Institute of Health, more than 161, 000
cases were reported in U.S. involving death caused by lung cancer in 2008 (Samet, Tang, Boffetta,
Hannan, Marston, Thun et, al., 2009). Despite the decreasing trends of lung cancer incidence rates
for men in the 1980s and for women in the late 1990s, still the lung and bronchus cancer remain the
significant cause of cancer mortality in the United States, with an estimation of 87,750 and 72,590

Cell death may also occur due to localized injury and disease (Martes, 2014). There are two ways a

Necrosis occurs due to the harm caused by an external force, such as bodily injury, poison and
infection. When the body cells die due to necrosis, it causes serious inflammation and further
injury in the body (Martes, 2014). The other way of cell death is apoptosis. It is also called as
programmed cell death. It follows a predictable and control routine (Kogel Prehn, 2013).
Abnormal apoptosis, either too much or too little of it can cause many serious diseases in human
such as neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune disorders, ischemic damage and many types of
cancer (Elmore, 2007). Therefore, the field of apoptosis is gaining attention in the research to

Tension Between Japan And Russia
Before looking at the war, it is important to look at how tensions between the Russians and the
Japanese started.
Before the Russo Japanese War, the Japanese and the Russians did not have contact with each other
until the 1800s. The Japanese did not want European influence during the beginning of the 1600s.
The first Europeans to come into contact and successfully trade with Japan was the Dutch in 1638.
The first Japanese person to go to Russia was Dembei in 1697, and it was not until 1739 that the
first Russians arrived in Japan. The Japanese refused to trade with the Russians for a long time,
and it was not until a Russian expedition that followed after Admiral Perry s expedition in 1853 did
trade talks start with Japan. After more than

Coping Strategies, Coping Inventory, Self Regulation and Resilience in Regards to Anxiety or
Stress on an Athletic Trainer What is stress? Hans Selye was the one who coined the word stress
. Selye defined stress as a non specific response of the body to any form of demand for change.
Just as the way Selye defined it, stress is the way the body responds to any type of demand.
Stress can be caused by both bad and good experiences. When a person feels stressed by
something occurring around him, his body reacts by realizing certain chemicals into the blood.
Such chemicals give the person more strength an energy that can be a good thing if physical
danger is what causes his stress. Though, it can also be a bad thing is his stress is response to an
emotional thing as there would be no outlet for such extra strength and energy. Stress Responses
Stress is majorly is a physical response. When the individual is under stress, his body perceives that
it under pressure (attack) and consequently switches to flight or fight mode, producing various
chemical and hormones such as norepinephrine, cortisol, and adrenaline to prepare body to become
active for physical action. This triggers various reactions such blood moves to muscles to close
down unnecessary functions of the body like digestion, muscles tighten, break quickens, senses
become more focused, blood pressure increases, and heart beats faster. Such physical changes

Identify the Forms of Pragmatic Politeness and Impoliteness
Identify Forms of Politeness
Identify the forms of pragmatic politeness and impoliteness used by one of the speakers, De Falco
In the beginning of the rescue, De Falco (the Coast Guard Commander) was talking to the captain
of the cruise ship (i.e. Schettino) about coordinating the rescue. This was accomplished through
using direct positive politeness. Under this kind of approach, De Falco was telling Schettino that
he needed to go to the starboard side of ship and determine how many people were trapped. The
way that this occurred is De Falco told Schettino what need to be done. (Culpeper, 2011)
Evidence of this can be seen with De Falco saying, Schettino? Listen Schettino. There are people
trapped on board. Now you go with your boat under the prow on the starboard side. There is a
pilot ladder. You will climb that ladder and go on board. You go on board and then you will tell
me how many people there are. Is that clear? I m recording this conversation, Cmdr Schettino. (
Costa Concordia Cruise Disaster, 2012) This is showing how De Falco is trying to nicely tell
Schettino that he needs to go back on board the ship immediately (during the middle of a crisis).
(Culpeper, 2011) As Schettino failed to comply with De Falco s instructions, is when he began to
use more direct forms of impoliteness to push him. After refusing to do so, is when the
conversation became more heated between the two parties (with De Falco coming to the point of
threatening the Commander). This

management to compete in the global economy, leading a diverse workforce, inspiring positive
ethics, character, and personal integrity, culture differences and work related attitudes, and

The leaders take a focus that is more external, whereas, the focus of managers is more internal.
Leaders have particular set competencies that are more forward thinking than managers. Leaders
set a direction for organization. They motivate their employees, so that the business continues to
exist and hopefully thrive in periods of change. Leaders keep the entity on course and to maneuver
around obstacles that come in its way; for example, a captain commanding his ship at sea, whereas
managers tend to the business at hand and make sure the staff is following proper procedures.
Origins of Change Management Theory
Kurt Lewin s (1947) developed an organizational change model that focused on three different
stages unfreezing, changing, and refreezing. Lewin s three step change model is unique in itself. It
enables and helps leader to make essential changes while minimizing the distraction and making

Characteristics Of An Entity The Brain Relies On The...
In life humans face many complex experiences and situations and we need to break these down
into simpler more meaningful components so we can make sense of them and what they
represent or mean, we do this by categorising them into groupings of similar features (van
Mechelen, 1993). To be able to identify or recognise an entity the brain relies on the memory to
be able to remember every single item encountered in a lifetime is difficult so categorisation is
used to simplify this process. An exemplar is a specific item of a category and a prototype is the
typical representation of a category (Burton, 2015). There is evidence that some organisms
including humans are born with an innate knowledge of some categories, but most categories are
learnt during early development stages and built upon as development continues into adulthood,
refined and updated with experience (Barsalou, 2014). Some exemplars have more features in
common to the category definition and are easier to place in a category compared to others that
have less features of the category, e.g. if birdis the category its general common features are
wings, small, lays eggs, and feathers then sparrows have all of these features and are easily fitted
into the category where an emu has less of these features taking longer to be placed (Barsalou,
2014). Category norms are tabulations of sets of exemplars of categories, (Casey, P. J., Heath,
1988), these lists then provide lists of items that fall under each

Fences by August Wilson
Throughout history, civilizations have built fences to keep enemies out and keep those they want
to protect inside. In society today, people create metaphorical fences in order to fence in their
feelings, while others create literal fences in order to keep the unwanted away. In the play Fences,
the Maxon family lives in 1950 s America whose lovefor sports and one another are questioned at
times when they need to be together the most. In the play Fences by August Wilson, two main
characters Troy and Cory Maxon build a fence, literally and metaphorically, which as the book
progresses, becomes a symbol that allows each character to truly understand each other. In
Fences, Troy Maxon builds a fence around his property that contains metaphorical reasons as
well as the literal meaning. During a conversation with Troy and Cory, Bono mentions the fence
Troy is building for his wife Rose and says Some people build fences to keep people out...and
other people build fences to keep people in. Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you
(61). Bono explains this to Troy because Cory was unable to comprehend why Rose wanted the
fence up in the first place. This opens the reader up to the symbolization of the fence itself. The
fence allows Rose to keep Troy with her because she has loved him for so many years and does
not want to let him go or leave her for another woman. Later, in Act two, Troy, after speaking to
Rose about his new baby who he had with his mistress Alberta,

(McEwen, 2008).
In rats, acute restraint is an unavoidable stress situation that results in autonomic (Alves et al.,
2010) and behavioral alternations including impaired exploratory activity in an open field,
increased immobility in a forced swimming test and reduced exploration of the open arms of an

The hippocampus is a medial temporal lobe structure that is necessary for the formation of
declarative memory in humans and spatial memory in rodents. A stress induced suppression of long

studies showed that stress induced LTP impairment lasts for at least 48 hours in rats and 24 hours
in mice (Kim and Diamond, 2002).
Microglial activation occurs in response to stressful insults, such as acute water immersed

two cases present the capital investment decisions under consideration by executives of a large

regarding improvements to a polypropylene production plant. The B case (case 21) reviews the

between two mutually exclusive projects. The objective of the two cases is to expose students to a

Historical Development Of Financial Accounting Theory
To understand the fair value accounting concept, an understanding of the foundation of accounting
is where it is today is needed. This information provides a guideline of how the first conceptual
ideas of accounting first began and changed overtime to accommodate the ever increasing changes
with investment options along with lobbying efforts of individuals. The FASB s Statement of
Financial Accounting Concepts (SFAC) No. 8 indicates that the primary purpose of financial
reporting is to provide financial information about the reporting entity that is useful to present and
potential equity investors, lenders, and other creditors in making decisions about providing
resources to the entity (Schroeder, Clark, Cathey, 2014 p. 184). With... Show more content on

Philadelphia opened the first stock market in 1790 which was later followed by the New York
Stock Exchange in 1792 with Bank of New York being the first list stock. With incomes increasing,
individuals had disposal income to start investing with. As America went west, railroad stocks
became hot commodities which caused investors to invest heavily in. By the 1900 s accounting
organizations started to increase and strive for the recognition of professionalism. During this time,
University s started to offer classes on accounting for individuals looking for a business career in
accounting. The accounting profession s turning point came with the stock market crashed in 1929.
Following this event the Securities and Exchange commission was created to administer various
securities acts and to prescribe accounting principles and reporting practices (Schroeder, et. al,
2014, p. 6). Subsequently, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) was
given the opportunity to create accounting standards for companies to follow. But dissidence
cropped up as disagreements arose with how members would be selected and the timeframe it took
to bring the potential regulations to the public. By 1973, the Financial Accounting Standards Board
(FASB) was designated as the organization within the private sector for establishing standards of

Natural Gas Business Scheme
In 2001 to 2008, sales of natural gas from KKKS have never been done in an open tender, natural
gas can be sold directly to natural gas distribution companies without any tender, in other words,
KKKS never announced to the media (newspapers, websites etc.) regarding the potential for
natural gas that will be commercialized. Hence, Natural Gas Distribution companies who have
network to KKKS will benefit from this kind of process. The process of selling gas without open
tender as mentioned above can lead to unethical business behavior, because KKKS is the only one
who gained full authorization from BPMIGAS to control the commercialization process but KKKS
did not doing a transparent business process.
What KKKS doing is not in accordance with the principles of good corporate governance that
includes Transparency, accountability, responsibility, independency, and fairness to attain a
company s sustainability by also considering the interests of stakeholders. (Binhaldi, 2006)
To avoid unethical business behavior, commercialization of natural gas process by KKKS must be

The Ditchdigger s Daughters
The different styles of parenting have negative and positive effects on their children. This quote
by Tamica Miller claims how parents different styles can affect many children s lives because the
way they teach them a lesson. Every parent is different in his or her own way. In the memoir The
Ditchdigger s Daughters by Yvonne S. Thornton, M.D., Thornton explains as the black struggle in
an unfair white America. The novel describes the oppression of the father and the consequences of
the six daughters of being black as he constrains, and helps them with every situation to reach for
his the level of excellence. It also describes how he helps his daughters to fulfill his dreams by
maintaining that each daughter should concentrate her distinguish on a career as a doctor. The Mr.
Thornton parentingstyle is very different than any other parent because he is very authoritative,
who approach his daughter with a clear fixed of rules, which needs to be followed without
asking him any question, which would have a big effect on his daughters. In comparison, my
mother has a very unique style of parenting my brother and me. My mother s parenting style is
positive reinforcement sometimes she is very strict and sometimes she is very permissive
because she does not want us to think that she is mean and rude. At the same time where she is

A Lawsuit Over Plagiarism in H. Bruce Millers Life is Not...
In Life is Not Measured by Grade Point Averages by H. Bruce Miller, Miller announces that a
young lady named Gabrielle Napolitano was suing the University for accusing her of plagiarism in
her paper. Napolitano hired a lawyer and built the case stating that the so called plagiarism was just
a, quote technical error (Miller, par.2). Miller announces this problem but doesn t get his true
argument out until the last few paragraphs of his paper, stating that students need to stop worrying
about their grades or grade point averages and need to start enjoying the process of learning, to
embrace the knowledge and use it without the fear of lack of money in the back of their minds.
Miller uses strong terminology throughout his paper and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Miller does not take in account that Napolitano might have been suing for what was right, suing the
University because she was having her life delayed for a mistake.
Miller doesn t include Napolitano s side of the story but he also does not relate to his audiences
beliefs and includes fallacies in his writing. Throughout the paper there was no emotional
statements or statements showing understanding for the students of the Nation, Miller
automatically assumes that everyone is just worried about grades and not actually there to learn
for the fun and joy of it. There are several occasions where Miller uses the faulty causality fallacy,
for example; Miller states Students get a lower grade in a course than they think they deserve;
they sue. Students graduate and fail to get a job, or as good a job as they expected; they sue
(Miller, par.3). At this point he is using the faulty causality fallacy by making that the assumption
that negative outcomes would automatically lead to suing, for example Jacob got a bad grade on
his school work so he sued the school .
Even though Miller makes assumptions in his writing, he does keep the reader s attention with a
face paced tone and long sentences with similes. For example, when Miller says The notion that
the principal, or only, purpose of going to college is to win a ticket of admission to the great upper

Essay On Representing More People In Television
Representing More People in Television
Television is a form of media that has been around since the 1950 s and has made slow but
steady progress in representing everyone since then. We have come a long way from the shows
about a white American, upper middle class, nuclear family that lives in the suburbs. Today,
representation in television is much broader, but still has shortcomings. From the 1950 s to the
1990 s, many shows were about families or a group of friends, such as The Brady Bunch, Cheers,
and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Progress has been made prior to the 2010 s but nowhere near as
much progress as the shows that have been aired in this current decade.

For most of television history, women have been stereotyped and held secondary roles. The
timeless classic, I Love Lucy, was a program that was well ahead of its time. Lucille Ball plays the
lead role and breaks the stereotype that women aren t funny. But this is one of the few, if not, the
only early television sitcom that breaks the mold of its time. Many shows and series of the first
few decades of television feature women as the typical stay at home mom or the fragile damsel
in distress that have very simple lines. However, that sentiment is changing drastically because
of shows like Orange Is the New Black (OitNB), a show that is about a women s prison and the
lives of the inmates. Many types of women are represented; women of color, LGBT women, and
even women with mental illnesses. Each character is complex and portrayed realistically. No
role is strictly designated as a villain, hero, love interest, or the one character that has to be saved.
This is completely different from the roles that women played in the past. Oliver Lee Bateman of
TeenVogue mentioned a pattern in women s roles in sitcoms, And nobody can overlook the slob
husband/hyper competent, nagging wife dynamic on display in shows ranging from Home
Improvement and Everybody Loves Raymond to The King of Queens. Those shows aired in the
1990 s and early 2000 s, OitNB premiered in 2013. It might be gradual but the drive to have more

Suicidal Ideation Paper
Psychological assessment provides counsellors with an objective point of view, meaning that
therapist bias will be minimized. According to Briere and Scott (2015), structured interviews are
designed to help counsellors avoid overlooking symptoms or inadequately assessing a client,
whereas the use of unstructured interviews may cause the counsellor to miss crucial information
as there are no guidelines to follow. A structured interview will be used to ensure that no aspects
of Ms. Wuornos case are overlooked. There is a significant relationship between childhood
physical and sexual abuse and suicidal ideation. Suicide ideators are individuals who have plans
and wishes to commit suicide, but have not yet made any recent attempts. Since suicide ideation
precedes suicide attempt, it is important to focus on the intensity, pervasiveness and characteristics
of the ideation in order to assess suicidal intention and to predict future suicidal risk (article). The
Scale for Suicidal Ideation is a 19 item scale that will be used to quantify the intensity of current
suicidal intent by scaling various dimensions of self destructive thoughts (Beck Kovacs, 1979)....

Personal Narrative-Every Mammal Has Hair
Every mammal has hair. There is no mammal that doesn t have some amount of hair, even hairless
animals are deceptively named because they all have hair, it s just much shorter and finer.
When you work at a vet clinic hair becomes an ever present part of your life. There s really
nothing you can do about it other than relentlessly sweeping and wiping things down, but even that
doesn t get rid of the hair. No matter what, the hair will be flying.
Owners do not help this situation at all. I am not joking, in this sense, I wish owners would just
drop off their pets things would be so much cleaner. Whenever an animal comes in and its mildly
shedding, or worse completely blowing it s coat, instead of just leaving it well alone, and letting
us breathe in peace, the owner profusely apologises and proceeds to pet/stroke/brush/ripped all of
the hair off the animal and fling it about the room. What you should be apologizing for is now
coating the whole room with your animal s fur, not the natural, seasonal condition of your animal s
coat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well for one, the hair is now everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Previously it would have just
been on the pet, a little on us, and the exam table, but now it s floating in the air creating small
hair tornados, coating the floor in a slippery layer, and covering every possible instrument that
was previously relatively sterile. I don t like having to clean the scale for the cats/small animals,
let alone the ENTIRE ROOM when only a dog came in.
Once a woman came in, took our flea brush after I was done using it to check for fleas, and
proceeded to brush her entire dog. For one that s not what a flea brush is for, it s not very
comfortable for that type of brushing, and two she then took the hair she collected and flung it in
the air as if that was a better place for it than on the table where I could have easily wiped it up. To
be fair this woman was a bit off, but

No Fault Divorce In Bohemia Case Study
The Benefits of a No Fault Divorce in Bohemia, New York
New York recognizes both fault based divorces and no fault divorces. In a fault based divorce, one
spouse accuses the other of some type of wrongdoing that led to the breakdown of the marriage,
such as adultery. In a no fault divorce, the parties agree that their marriage is irretrievably broken
and has been for a period of at least six months. Although not every couple will seek a no fault
divorce, filing for a no fault divorce in Bohemia, New York has certain advantages. Even if one
party is at fault for the breakdown of the marriage, many couples still choose to seek a no fault
divorce in Bohemia, New York.
Since there are no allegations of wrongdoing, the parties do not have to spend money and time

What Do I Need to Tell a Divorce Mediator in Bohemia, NY?
Divorce mediation is a gentler alternative to finalizing a case. Divorce mediation is not a court
proceeding, and no testimony is required. Instead, when the parties meet with a divorce mediator in
Bohemia, New York, they usually attempt to create a settlement agreement in a conference room.
If you are planning to meet with a divorce mediator in Bohemia, New York, you are probably
wondering what you will discuss.
Although your attorney has spoken for you in court proceedings and other exchanges up until this
point, during mediation, you will be the one doing the talking. Do not let this fact make you
nervous. You will be discussing your marriage and its breakdown in a relaxed, conversational
manner with the mediator. If you prefer, the mediator will not disclose statements you make to your
spouse. Therefore, you should tell the mediator all of your concerns and wishes so that they are
taken into account when creating a settlement

Causes Of Child Solider In A Long Way Gone
Youth are a vital site for understanding nation and globalization. (Shepler, Youthscapes, p. 122)
One of the topic is child soldiers. Some people believe that child soldier is just a tragedy of wars.
However, understanding the war as a crisis of youth does not mean just understanding RUF
rebels and their reasons for revolt. We must strive to understand the situation of a whole
generation defined by political and economic disenfranchisement. (Shepler, Youthscapes, p. 125)
In A Long Way Gone, Ishmael Beach was joined the rebel to avenge the deaths of (my) family

Synopsis Of The Movie The Greatest Show Man
The new movie The Greatest showman centers around Phineas Taylor (P.T.) Barnum and his circus.
It features many critically acclaimed actors, Zendaya Coleman as Anne Wheeler, Michelle Williams
as Charity Barnum, Zac Efron as Phillip Carlyle, Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum, and Rebecca
Ferguson as Jenny Lind. Their characters go through several trials throughout the filmincluding (but

discrimination.
I did a short Google search when I saw it the first time, as well as simply looking through my
newsfeed on Facebook; many people aren t too happy with the portrayal of Barnum, as he was
not the man Jackman portrayed him to be in the film. He put the misfits on display as freaks and
oddities, drawing on the crowds racial discriminations and hatred to make a profit. The movie
didn t even mention Joice Heth, an elderly, blind, and severely paralyzed slave. Portrayed by
Barnum as a 161 year old nurse who raised and took care of George Washington, he even went so

Casement Replacement Windows Vs Six Room Analysis
For New Jersey and New York Metro homeowners thinking about upgrading their homes with high
performance, custom built replacement windows, choosing a style may be the easiest decision
they make, or the hardest. Some people are happy with the way their home looks, but are tired of
the drafty corners and high heating and air conditioning bills. Simply replacing their existing
double or single hung windowswith a modern, better functioning windowunit of the same style
could be the perfect solution. Other homeowners want to make a more dramatic change, perhaps

A Recap: Pros and Cons of Crank Style Replacement Windows
Crank style windows are terrific in tight spaces and where you would normally have to climb a
ladder to raise a window, or where you have to reach across a counter. Both awnings and
casements really bring in a ton of fresh air, but you can only open an awning window on a rainy
day, unless you don t mind cleaning up water off the floor. Casement windows are often better
than awnings in upper floors and neither style is a great fit if you have shrubbery close to the
house, or want to place furniture close to the house on your patio.

  • 2. Comparing Skepticism And Dreaming Argument Skepticism is one of the most important debates in philosophy, skepticism could be describe as the doubt or refusing attitude towards reality and knowledge. This idea of doubting knowledge has been around since the 1st century BC with the foundation of the Greek skeptic school known as Pyrrhonism. Since that time, the idea of skepticismhas remained the same and many people from our time still questioning themselves about reality; How can I be certain about reality, if I cannot even trust my own senses? . One of the many examples of this belief is Rene Descartes and his famous Dreaming Argument ; where he states that everything that we know is only part of a dream, a dream where nobody wants to wake up because we feel comfortable on it and we are afraid that reality could be cruel. However, due to the fact that skepticism is a very controversial idea, another group of people emerged to denied skepticism.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as there are several philosophers that belief in skepticism, there also exist a counterpart, a group of philosophers that think that skepticism is an absurd concept. One of the anti skeptic members is the famous English philosopher G.E. Moore. One of Moore s most famous works is A Defense of Common Sense in which he tries to deny skepticism by saying that there are several things that we are absolutely convince on, things like common sense. Moore begins his Defense of Common Sense by simply enunciating a list of truism to prove that he has at least some knowledge, and that there are at least some beliefs about the world that we certainly know about. On this first section Moore starts saying: I. I know that I was born at some point of time. II. I have continued to exist since the time I was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Child Left Behind Act The possible risks of passing a child to the next grade level due to the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) could affect children from being the next leaders of America. So much that it has had a tremendous impact on their quality of education, testing skills, learning, and funding. The No Child Left Behind Act was passed in the year of 2002. It was established to require states and school districts to ensure that all of the students are learning and are reaching their highest potential. It is true that every student can learn, however not on the same day or in the same way. Since the act was passed their policies has changed and so has many of the students situations have changed since then. In spite of the fact that, the polices has changed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yes, some policies and guidelines have been changed, but is it growing with the different communities and disadvantaged students? When the No Child Left Behind Act was implemented and signed by President George W. Bush in 2002 it was designed to hold the schools accountable for the children s education (Klein, 2015). In order for our children to become the next leaders of America our educational system must be changed as well. If the funding can be provided as it is, then the time, quality of education, testing skills, and learning abilities can be increased. After all, the school boards of education across the United States is committed to its mission of preparing all students for success in learning, leadership, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay Nature Nature What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, men would die from great loneliness of spirit, for whatever happens to the beasts, also happens to man. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth. Chief Seattle The love I have for orangutans comes from an early age. Like most little sisters, my older brother ruthlessly teased me. When I was a baby he would make me mimic funny faces and stick my hair up on end. He said I looked like an orangutan. His teasing continued, but instead of getting mad, I became interested. I began taking a look at these creatures and soon discovered that being compared to one wasn t completely wrong. Actually,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, this is no longer the case, and natives are stripping away these creatures habitats for commercial business. If things don t change, it is believed that orangutans will be extinct in the wild in as few as ten years. This is something that can only be changed with human intervention. Two major causes of orangutan endangerment are the illegal selling of baby orangutans and the unlawful logging of the rainforest in which they live. The bond between a mother orangutan and her baby is the longest childhood dependence of any animal in the world. Orangutans will only have one child about every eight years. Baby orangutans nurse until they are about six years old and then they still stay close to their mothers for a few more years. Female orangutans will sometimes stay with their mother until their adolescents, in order to learn how to take care of their own babies by watching their mothers take care of a younger sibling. The already low natural population increase makes any killing a major threat to the survival of the species. Because babies stay with their mother for so many years, the only way to capture one is to kill the mother. Although highly illegal, baby orangutans are being sold as family pets as a high commodity on the black market. When the babies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Tiebout Case Study Charles Tiebout believed that people move from one political administration to another in search of their interests in government taxes and spending. This theory suggest that people choose government in the same way as they choose their car, a home or any other things of their daily life. However this shopping is affected by some other factors (Encyclonomic, 2000 2016). The Tiebout theory says that people have two options for affecting the job of local government participation in economy. People can vote to replace the government which not of their will, or they move to some other place which offers a more preferred policies (Taxes). These options improve the assignment of resources matching the government activity with consumer favors. While there is a problem, all people don t have the same resources to relocate themselves to place which better suits them. Some people have job problems which stop them from relocation, while some has some bond with the community where they are living. On the other hand economists adopt only practically possible thing from Tiebout model. The positive view of Tiebout is that we don t have to take care of the local government approach. The government has to make stable and reasonable rules of taxes and benefits to make people stay or choose them, on the other hand if government fails to maintain cost benefit ratio they have to bear the ... • 7. Economic Models after World War II A widespread view developed among economists and policymakers in the early post World War II period Import substitution policies were popular amongst developing economies was that the best way for these countries to develop more rapidly was to stimulate industrialisation by adopting import substitution policies. At the time, there seemed to be a number of good reasons for such an approach. The policy makers of the newly independent nations were keenly aware not only that most of the countries from whom they obtained independence had much higher per capita income levels and were much more industrialised but that their former rulers had imposed economic policies in the past which discouraged industrialisation within the new nations and industrialisation seemed to offer the possibility of achieving faster growth, higher per capita income levels and the economic and military power needed for national security. An economically sensible way of achieving industrialisation seemed to be to restrict imports of manufactured goods for which there already was a domestic demand in order both to shift this demand toward domestic producers and permit the use of the country s primary product export earnings to import the capital goods needed for industrialisation. There also appeared to be a number of examples where high levels of import protection contributed positively to industrialisation. Although Great Britain had adopted a policy of free trade during its period of rapid growth in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. A Lesson before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines Essay A Lesson before Dying, one of Ernest J. Gaines later works, was written in 1993. Some of his earlier works include A Gathering of Old Men and In My Father s House. The novel covers a time period when blacks were still treated unfairly and looked down upon. Jefferson, a main character, has been wrongly accused of a crime and awaits his execution in jail. Grant, the story s main protagonist must find it within himself to help Jefferson see that he is a man, which will allow him to walk bravely to his fate that lies in the execution chair. A Lessonbefore Dying captures the tale of a young teacher, who by helping another mistakenly finds his own soul. This paper explains the literary background of Gaines, facts about the novel, literary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was here that Gaines discovered his passion for writing.(Discovering Authors 1). His first novel was published in 1964. He began to receive awards, his most famous becoming the Autobiography of Miss Jane Pitman. Becoming a highly analyzed novel, many critics speak about their feelings. Carl Senna, one a literary critic, discusses the reasons for lack of communication in A Lesson before Dying. A large part of their communication problem comes directly from their class differences. Although Grant is not considered rich, he is well educated and lives rather comfortably, whereas Jefferson is nearly illiterate and has been a struggling farmhand most of his life. This gap that separates them makes it very difficult for them to speak. Neither one of them is at fault for this, but it frustrates Jefferson to the point where he often wants to leave the jail cell and not return. Also Grant speaks with Jefferson reluctantly, prompted by his aunt, a moralizing scold and a nag (Senna 5). Another good point Senna makes is that because of the time period, blacks were struggling to become equals and were more engrossed with their own wants and needs than worrying about Jefferson. Yes, they all realized that he is innocent but they are not at a time where they can fight for the innocence of this young boy. Therefore Grant becomes their instrument in trying to save him[Jefferson] from disgrace (Senna 5). Jefferson was not seen as much to these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Pros And Cons Of The LGBTQ Strife In Japan LGBTQ Strife in Japan The LGBTQ community, around the world, objectively has been treated as a minority group. Because of this, today we can see efforts that resemble the American civil rights movement take place. Those who patriciate, do so because this marginalized group has a history of being discriminated against in more ways than one. Japan though is unique in this aspect. The LGBTQ community historically has mostly been free to do as they please. It wasn t until recently that they saw their rights being restricted. Japan has the west to thank for this. Gay marriage is illegal in Japan. According to Japanese law, they do not have the right to marry but homosexuality itself is allowed. Why this is will be explained later. Some positives of today are that the age of consent remains the same as heterosexuals and the idea of conversion therapy is banned (Equaldex). Unfortunately, that is basically were the positives end. Japanese law is very ambiguous on several topics when it comes to homosexuals. This is due to the recent awareness of the issue and action has not been taken yet given the small timeframe; more on that later. Some of these ambiguous restrictions include, the ability to adopt children, and joining the military. Perhaps the reasoning for the adoption restriction is fueled by the thought that the homosexual parent(s) will give the child the wrong idea about what family is supposed to be. However, the restriction on military service though seems to lack ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You learnt and contributed as much as you could. You did not В‘clock watch and you were eager and hungry for more work I believe I was an empowered employee. The long hours I have been working has lead me to believe I need to empower my employees and also delegate successfully to them. Basically the mission statement is trying to raise my awareness and skill in the area of empowerment, being more conscious of the techniques used and needed to raise employee empowerment. When preparing the mission statement it was interesting to take note of the following: Both management and employees interpret empowerment from their own viewpoints to suit their own needs and build up expectations of what the programme will bring. For management, empowerment promises a more committed and involved workforce who are willing to take responsibility at lower levels. Whilst for employees, empowerment pledges autonomy and the ability to move to a more equitable position within their organization. The failure of these expectations to share similar intentions or goals means that the psychological contract between management and worker could fail, promoting feelings of is trust on both sides (Hill Huq, 2004) So when developing this mission statement I need to account not only management s perspective but the alternate view of the employee s perspective. The New York Time Article By Timothy William Essay In the New York Time Article by Timothy William, Inquiry to Examine Racial Bias in the San Francisco Police Department, first thing to remember known as implied social perception, implicit bias refers to the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious manner. Another key point of argument is that there is no systematic bias in the criminal justice base on race. To point out, in performing their policing duties, policeofficer are able to exercise a high degree of discretion. This means that they have a have a broad freedom to make a decision about how to act on the given situation. For this reason some police officer deliberately use their wide power of discretion and their authority to perform acts of misconduct. In this article it is generally agreed that discrimination based on racial or ethnic origin is morally wrong and a violation of the principle of impartiality. In fact impartiality principles requires that those who are equal be treated equally based on similarities, and that race not be a relevant consideration in the assessment. However, in May, District Attorney George Gascon appointed a three judge body of distinguished jurists to look into bias in the department following a series of misconduct scandals, the most troubling being a group of police officers who were caught sending racist text messages. Yolanda, after having been away for so many years, cannot express herself fluently in Spanish anymore, so it is very hard to communicate with her family in the same as she used to, highlighting another hardship of immigration. Her initial distrust of men we see near the middle of the reading reflects her fears of the Dominican Republic after five years of being away. This is very important to the arc of the story and simply to her character development as a whole because though she should be at home in her home country, she feels like a foreigner and is more comfortable being treated as such when the men confront her at her car and asked if she spoke Spanish. Yolanda also consistently predicts the wrong reaction from people she meets in the Dominican Republic. She expects the two men with machetes to kill her and steal her things, when in fact they were actually trying to help her. They ended up changing the tire on her car and walking away. She also expects the security guard at the mansion to respect the young boy, Jose, she sends for help. This is partly due to the reduction of the amount of revenue states and local governments can obtain from property taxes due constraints and the reduction in federal and state aid at the local level. As a result, state and local governments have turned to the idea of charging user fees. User fees are a fees charged for the use of a products or services. Coping Strategies, Coping Inventory, Self Regulation and Resilience in Regards to Anxiety or Stress on an Athletic Trainer What is stress? Hans Selye was the one who coined the word stress . Selye defined stress as a non specific response of the body to any form of demand for change. Just as the way Selye defined it, stress is the way the body responds to any type of demand. Stress can be caused by both bad and good experiences. When a person feels stressed by something occurring around him, his body reacts by realizing certain chemicals into the blood. • 33. Characteristics Of An Entity The Brain Relies On The... In life humans face many complex experiences and situations and we need to break these down into simpler more meaningful components so we can make sense of them and what they represent or mean, we do this by categorising them into groupings of similar features (van Mechelen, 1993). To be able to identify or recognise an entity the brain relies on the memory to be able to remember every single item encountered in a lifetime is difficult so categorisation is used to simplify this process. An exemplar is a specific item of a category and a prototype is the typical representation of a category (Burton, 2015). There is evidence that some organisms including humans are born with an innate knowledge of some categories, but most categories are learnt during early development stages and built upon as development continues into adulthood, refined and updated with experience (Barsalou, 2014). Some exemplars have more features in common to the category definition and are easier to place in a category compared to others that have less features of the category, e.g. if birdis the category its general common features are wings, small, lays eggs, and feathers then sparrows have all of these features and are easily fitted into the category where an emu has less of these features taking longer to be placed (Barsalou, 2014). Category norms are tabulations of sets of exemplars of categories, (Casey, P. J., Heath, 1988), these lists then provide lists of items that fall under each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Fences by August Wilson Throughout history, civilizations have built fences to keep enemies out and keep those they want to protect inside. In society today, people create metaphorical fences in order to fence in their feelings, while others create literal fences in order to keep the unwanted away. In the play Fences, the Maxon family lives in 1950 s America whose lovefor sports and one another are questioned at times when they need to be together the most. In the play Fences by August Wilson, two main characters Troy and Cory Maxon build a fence, literally and metaphorically, which as the book progresses, becomes a symbol that allows each character to truly understand each other. In Fences, Troy Maxon builds a fence around his property that contains metaphorical reasons as well as the literal meaning. During a conversation with Troy and Cory, Bono mentions the fence Troy is building for his wife Rose and says Some people build fences to keep people out...and other people build fences to keep people in. Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you (61). Bono explains this to Troy because Cory was unable to comprehend why Rose wanted the fence up in the first place. This opens the reader up to the symbolization of the fence itself. The fence allows Rose to keep Troy with her because she has loved him for so many years and does not want to let him go or leave her for another woman. Stress activates the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) releasing glucocorticoid hormones that produce generalized effects on different body systems including the nervous system (McEwen, 2008). In rats, acute restraint is an unavoidable stress situation that results in autonomic (Alves et al., 2010) and behavioral alternations including impaired exploratory activity in an open field, increased immobility in a forced swimming test and reduced exploration of the open arms of an elevated plus maze (EPM) 24 h after the stress session (Padovan and Guimaraes, 2000). The hippocampus is a medial temporal lobe structure that is necessary for the formation of declarative memory in humans and spatial memory in rodents. A stress induced suppression of long term potentiation (LTP) induction was reported in 1987 by Thompson and colleagues. Subsequent studies showed that stress induced LTP impairment lasts for at least 48 hours in rats and 24 hours in mice (Kim and Diamond, 2002). Microglial activation occurs in response to stressful insults, such as acute water immersed restraint stress (Sugama et al., 2007), cold stress (Sugama et al., 2011), repeated stress (Tynan et al., 2010), and prenatal stress (Diz Chaves et al., 2012). It features many critically acclaimed actors, Zendaya Coleman as Anne Wheeler, Michelle Williams as Charity Barnum, Zac Efron as Phillip Carlyle, Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum, and Rebecca Ferguson as Jenny Lind. Their characters go through several trials throughout the filmincluding (but not limited to) interracial relationships, monetary issues, hate crimes, as well as racial and oddity discrimination. She is only one of many real, unspoken people of Barnum Bailey Circus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
