Ghana And Ivory Coast Similarities
Ghana and Ivory Coast are two of the most influential countries in Sub Saharan African history.
Both Ghana and Ivory Coast are very alike each other. The similarities between the two countries
are most evident in the geographical region, ethnic groups, spiritual matters, agricultural and
economical matters. The similarities between Ghana and Ivory Coast are seemingly endless. They
were both neighboring countries and created in the same region, West Africa. Ghana and Ivory
Coast are countries in Africa that are native to millions of people. Both borders the countries

The Pearl Character Analysis
The Pearl, had many different characters with faults. Those faults seemed very small as the story
began, however those tiny flaws quickly became noticeable and conflicting. After being exposed
to such bad and wrong, the characters begin to really show their true colors. They show who they
really are under the influence of their faults, whether it be greed or desperateness. The characters
being completely different yet still try to show some connection and do things they would not do
otherwise. Most characters need some sort of light to shine upon their dark dreams as Steinbeck
says. There are many characters and scenes to talk about in the story but the main thing to discuss
are certain characters faults in their goals, failures to see past grees, and their dreams. Strangely
enough, there is the well known doctor whowould not see the ill baby at the beginning of the story
till he heard about the pearlKino found. It was at this point when the doctorfelt the urge to suddenly
head on over to Kino s town to check up on his child. This is a major fault that goes along with
his character. His failure is due to selfishness, as he wants the pearl to go to Paris. They flat out
state before the character was even introduced, And they knew the doctor. They knew his
ignorance, his cruelty, his avarice, his appetites, his sins (Steinbeck chapter 1). He pretends as
though he d love to take Kino and Juana, but it is well known he just wants their funds. He even

The Great Egyptian Ruler, Cleopatra Of Egypt
She was a lover of the most powerful men of her time, almost lost her crown to her brother, and
committed suicide by the bite of an asp that ensured eternal life for her. Who is this woman? She
is Cleopatra. Even though she is known as a great Egyptian ruler, she was actually Greek
(Mark). Cleopatra of Egypt lived an exciting life full of scandals and war, and she is still
regarded as one of the most powerful women in history. Her ancestor, Ptolemy, was one of
Alexander the Great s generals. After Alexander died, he took Egypt and adopted their culture even
though he was Greek. Cleopatra VIIPhilopator was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 69 B.C. A couple

She succeeded and they became lovers and allies. He helped her win the civil war between her,
her sister, and her brother. Ptolemy was later put to death and Arsinoe was taken captive by
Caesar ( Cleopatra ). After Caesar was murdered, Cleopatra lost her only ally, so she decided kill
Arsinoe and to reconnect with an old friend who was now the co ruler of Rome along with Caesar
s adopted son, Octavian. He had helped her father before, but that is another story. His name was
Mark Antony. They met, and became lovers. Mark Antony soon married her and divorced his wife
who was Octavian s sister, Octavia (Mark). Cleopatra had one son with Caesar, Caesarion, and
three children with Mark Antony. Their names were Cleopatra Selene, Alexander Helios, and
Ptolemy Philadelphus (Lovelady). Caesarion was killed shortly after Cleopatra committed suicide.
Octavian, the other ruler of Rome, declared war on Cleopatra and Mark Antony. After a naval
battle, the Battle of Actium, where Octavian won, Mark Antony returned to Alexandria where he
was told that Cleopatra had been killed. He threw himself on his sword only to find out a day
later that she was alive but hiding in a mausoleum. Mark Antony was brought to her, and he died
in her arms (Lovelady). Grieving over Mark Antony and realizing her defeat by Octavian,
Cleopatra asked one of her trusted servants to bring her some figs. This was code

The Pen Of Thomas Paine
These are the times that try men s souls. Rarely have there been as powerful and as meaningful
words as these from the pen of Thomas Paine. Paine was one of the many men who experienced
the harsh effects of the war. The war was deadly, more deadly than ever could be expressed
through words. The extremes of the war were felt by all, although some felt the cruelty the war
more than others. Men from many different walks of life and men from different sides of the war
all had their souls tried by this war. Some of the men, who joined the Colonial Army, could not take
these trials once the going got tough. When the war started in the summer of 1776, the Army was
doing well with the victory of Boston behind them, and with the excitement of defending Manhattan
in the future, many men joined the Colonial Army. When the Americans lost New York, started to
retreat through New Jersey, and the weather turned rainy, the number of men in the Colonial Army
started to drop significantly. Men were deserting or waiting until their enlistments were up and then
would not re enlist (McCullough 249). These numbers dropped even farther once the weather
turned poor when the rain and snow came (McCullough 81). This shows precisely what Paine
meant by his second statement in The American Crisis, The summer soldier and the sunshine
patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country... All the men of the war were
suffering, but the men who stuck it out even in the hardest of

Argumentative Essay On Hero Vs Monster
Hero Versus Monster
The classic story of hero versus monster has been around for as long as we as human have been
telling them. There is something about a good hero, or even more so a good monster that fascinates
and intrigues the human mind. We love stories of underdogs prevailing against the odds just as
much as we enjoy the monsters they are put up against. Modern day hero versus monster stories take
place between radically different parties then that of early human history however. Often today the
hero and the monster can be the same person, with ourselves being our worst enemies.
Back in early human history, complications, disagreements, and issues generally took place
between two parties. Introspection, the examination or observation of one s own mental and
emotional processes, was not as prevalent as it is today. While our modern day society still deals
with issues between two individuals, many of the issues we are confronted with now are internal
struggles with ourselves. Low ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term hero in modern day English is defined as someone who is admired or idealized for
courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities, but who and as well as what makes a
hero is more up to the eyes of the beholder than anything else. While a hero for many is someone
that plays a role model figure in their lives, many a time do they forget that they themselves are
one of the most heroic and courageous persons in their lives. Tasks such as overcoming crippling
depression, working up the courage to step out of one s comfort zone and try something new, or
working through a traumatic death in a family are all examples of invisible heroes, heroes that
cannot be seen but are felt instead. These invisible heroes play a role in shaping us into who we
are, and many times fight battles within us that we do not even know are taking

The investigator Joe Raedle reported that, In December 2006, four year old Rebecca Riley was
found dead in her parents home, a victim of a prescription drug overdose. An autopsy revealed
four different drugs in her system: an antihistamine (used to treat allergies), a cough suppressant,
an anti seizure drug and a blood pressure medication. The last two drugs had been prescribed not
because Rebecca suffered from seizures or high blood pressure. Rather, Rebecca s psychiatrist had
prescribed the drugs to alleviate her attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and bipolar

Water Pollution In South Africa
Introduction Water is a scarce resource in South Africa, making the countries rural citizens
highly dependent on rivers, dams and underground water as a water supply. The countries
increasing population has seen an increase in the demand for water but also a decrease in its
accessibility. This is because an increase in population also increases the rate of pollution of
water. Through estimation, it is said that South Africa s population will have doubled by the
year 2025, thus further endangering the quality of water in South Africa. (Staff Writer, 2015)
The consumption of water of poor quality can be fatal not only to human lives but also the lives
of the animals or livestock that consume it. Bacteria and viruses within water are the causes of
water borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid and gastroenteritis. One of the main causes of
death for children in South Africa under the age of five is, in fact, gastroenteritis. These diseases
pose a greater threat to the informal settlers situated along river banks (or any other natural water
source) because they use the water directly from the river without sufficiently purifying it or
without purifying it at all. Also, their ability to seek good medical care after exposure is limited.
This means that they are more likely to die from a water borne disease that is otherwise
preventable. (Umngeni Valley Nature Reserve, 2017) The aim and focus of this investigation is to
determine the impact that the town of Howick has on the water

International students in the US have a choice of a broad range of programs that they can choose.
The US is home to over 4500 colleges and universities offering an extensive array of degrees
(Florea). The institutions of higher learning also give the international students the opportunity to
combine various subjects as minors and majors. Students who want to experiment with different
subjects and classes have the option of choosing to study in the US. Globally, no country offers
such a wide range of flexibility and programs. Students who wish to study in the US have the
opportunity to choose a course that matches their future aspirations. The international students also
have the ability to pursue some of the most innovative programs offered and interact with globally
recognized scholars who tutor them throughout their years of study. The programs are also tailored
to meet the demands of the job market, thereby enabling the international students to leave college
while having the requisite skills required for the job. Owing to a large number of courses available
for the international students, they have an option of choosing the kind of college experience they
want. Such considerations include the location of the college or university, the type of
accommodation, the sports programs and facilities available among others (Florea). The

Western Honey Bee Disease
The Western Honey Bee (Apis Melliferis) is a species of honey bee. Its genus name Apis is Latin
for bee . The western honey bee shares a genus with the dwarf honey bee (Apis Florea), the giant
honey bee (Apis Dorsata) , and the oriental honey bee (Apis Cerana). According to
insectidentification.org, the Western Honey Beefalls under the Apidae family . This family includes
bumble bees, honeybees and stingless bees (Apidae). As long as they pollinate and produce honey,
then they fall under the Apidae family. Although the most visible members of Apidae are social,
the vast majority of apid bees are solitary, including a number of cleptoparasitic species (O Toole
and Raw 1999). The Western Honey Bee is under the order Hymenopetra. Along these... Show more

The Western Honey Bee can be severly hurt by Sacbroad, a disease caused by a virus, and Varroa
mites (Moore, Wilson, et al). Western Honey Bees do tend to have medicinal purposes due to their
ability to make honey. According to medical dictionary.thefreedictionary.com, studies show that
since bees are as major cause of life threatening anaphylaxis in sensitised individuals, homeopathy, a
homeopathic remedy obtained from honey bees, can help treat bee stings and other insect bites,
oedema, and other causes of burning and swelling, including cystitis, allergies and sore throat.
For commercial purposes, only A. mellifera and A. cerana have been used to gather honey. But,
only A. mellifera has been used expansively for commercial pollination of plants and other crops.
This honey helps consumers alleviate pain, allergies and naturally sweetens drinks. Honeybees
have many adaptations for defense: Adults have orange and black striping that acts as warning
coloration. Predators can learn to associate that pattern with a painful sting, and avoid them.
Honeybees prefer to build their hives in protected cavities (small caves or tree hollows). They
seal small openings with a mix of wax and resins called propolis, leaving only one small opening.
Worker bees guard the entrance of the hive. They are able to recognize members of their colony by
scent, and will attack any non members that try to enter the

Virginia Horn Project Essay
1.0 Summary Historic data analysis, 3D models, interpretations of geophysical data, prospecting
results and a mineral potential map of the Virginia Horn (VH) project are presented. Comparison
of data from the VH to analog gold hosting rocks in Canada suggest that future exploration should
focus on identifying Au bearing veins in the Midway sequence, within 300 meters of the Pike
River fault (PRF). Specifically, exploration drilling should be conducted in the buried area north of
the Jola and Sopp excavation pit, where the PRF is inferred to have experienced compressional
bending and a silicified/arsenopyrite rich metasediment (?) boulder has been discovered. A high
resolution aeromagnetic (or electromagnetic) survey would enhance a geologic interpretation of the
VH, but may not be necessary as currently available data justify further exploration in the high
potential area outlined in this report.
2.0 Introduction
The VH is located in northern MN, USA, approximately 60 miles north of Duluth and 3 miles
southeast of Virginia. It is named for the abrupt bend in the Proterozoic Biwabik iron formation and
subsequent horn shape of exposed Archean bedrock. Rocks in the VH are part of the southern

Television Show Keeping Up With The Kardashians
The Kardashians are known for their hit reality TV show Keeping up with the Kardashians. The
show features a family that deals with what they consider as everyday problems and lead
ostensibly normal lives, hence the name Reality TV. The family gained its fame originally when
Robert Kardashian defended O.J. Simpson in court in 1995. O.J. Simpson was accused of
murdering his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her ex boyfriend, Ronald Goldman (Linder).
Many politicians have started out their careers as lawyers, and sometimes become famous because
they either defended or prosecuted important cases. Julius Caesaralso gained his fame in the court
system. Caesar was prosecuting two men that were followers of Sulla, who was an influential
leader. This is not the only connection that can be distinguished between the Kardashians and
Julius Caesar. Kim Kardashian, although she was already well known at the time, increased her
fame even more by marrying Kanye West in May of 2014 (Stephens). Julius Caesar, similarly,
married Cornelia, who was the daughter of a noble. This helped him to gain fame and support in
the political world of Rome. Another similarity between Caesar and the Kardashians is their ability
to self advertise. Kim Kardashian has always been known for her ability to get the attention of the
public through social media. Whether it be because of a scandalous photo, or an outrageous rumor
that she wants to expose as untrue, she always manages to advertise something about

Managing employees that share a low moral is not simple yet it affects productivity. I am the
department manager of the shoes department for Sears Holdings Corporation. I will present three
recommendations on how to boost my subordinate s moral along with surpass the expectations and
goals of my department during the busy holiday season. My employees are incredibly significant
and with them I will be able to meet my goals through recognizing and training them as well as with
some suggestions to acquire competitive advantage.
The preliminary step to boost my employee s attitude and morale is recognition. Respecting each
employee as well as equal treatment will heighten morale. In Chapter 12, Adams states that
employees are motivated to see fairness in the rewards they expect for task performance. Also
mentioned in Chapter 12, I will encourage the Reinforcement Theory. Good behavior, attitude and
ideas will be rewarded (positive reinforcement). In order to reward behavior of employees, the goals
and quotas needed to be met will be clearly defined.
Emails, phone calls and thank you notes will all be used to show employees appreciation. As a
manager, I will make a particular effort to send my employees a handwritten thank you note for
each miniature goal. After a few larger goals are accomplished, an appreciation day will be

Urbanization In The Late Nineteenth Century
Urbanization in the United States in the late nineteenth century resulted from a number of factors,
in particular the rise of commercial activity following the Civil War and the industrialization of the
period. During that post bellum period, cities grew along with a rising population of those residing
in the cities. Although those two factors might, at first, appear to be the same, they are, in fact,
different. In one early study from immediately after the period (Jefferson, 1915), scholars observed
that American cities grew by about 15 million people in the two decades before 1900. Immigration
from other countries certainly featured significantly in that growth, but the industrial revolutionalso
played a significant role (Schultz, 2013,

Kids Should Not Pay Attention In Classes
Would you rather relax or pay attention in class to something knowing that you will not be tested
on it? Personally, if I am in class and my teacher in talking about something that i know would not
affect my grade for matter if i knew it or not, I would put on my nice, warm hoodie, put my
headphones in, lay my head down, and take a nap. The majority of schoolage kids would agree that
they would do the same. I think typical grading would work better than a long tern project
because most kids would not pay attention all year, and google everything they would need for
their project last second, some kids have a crippling fear of public speaking and would not be
comfortable being forced to make a presentation, and kids would not even try learningbecause they
know they will not be tested.
First of all, the children in this class would not have a reason to pay attention throughout the
school year, so they wouldn t. They would not worry even the slightest bit about grades because
the only one they would get would be at the end of the school year. From the beginning to the end
of the year is a long time to forget the material they were taught. When it came time to make the
project, they would look up all the information they needed on the internet because they did not pay

Reverend Dimmesdale s Irony
The Scarlet Letter is set in the mid 1800 s, a time of strong religious values where adultery was
considered one of the most horrendous sins one could commit. The novel takes place in the
Massachusetts Bay Colony; a community with deeply rooted religious morals. This setting that
Nathaniel Hawthorne chose heightens the severity of the wrongdoing that Hester, the novel s
protagonist, perpetrates. Reverend Dimmesdale, a church figure who is widely respected
throughout the community, commits the exact same crime as Hester, however the two handled
their situations very differently. By examining the two character s mental states, it becomes evident
that Hawthorne is demonstrating the theme of how taking responsibility for one s sins enables that...

While Hester stands in front of the townspeople, he dramatically pleads with her to speak out the
name of thy fellow sinner and fellow sufferer! (Hawthorne, 65). Obviously, Hawthorne designs this
to be a thoroughly ironic situation. Not only is it odd that the reverend, of all people, would
commit adultery; but it is ironic that he would pressure Hester so heavily to essentially expose
him. From this point in the novel on, Dimmesdale is engaged in a constant internal struggle with
himself; he can t bring himself to admit the truth, yet he suffers an intense sense of guilt for staying
quiet. As if the internal conflict with himself wasn t difficult enough, Dimmesdale must work
through his guilt while Hester s ex husband, Roger Chillingworth seeks vengeance. The returned
sailor is determined to see him tremble... Let him hide himself in outward honor, if he may! Not
the less he shall be mine! (Hawthorne, 73). Meanwhile, Dimmesdale doesn t even know who this
man is. Chillingworth plays mind games with Dimmesdale. For example, Dimmesdale asks
Chillingworth where he found an herb one day. Chillingworth ominously replied They grew out of
[a dead person s] heart, and typify, it may be, some hideous secret that was buried with him, and
which he had done better to confess during his lifetime (Hawthorne, 127). Whether Dimmesdale

The Exclusionary Rule
To determine whether or not the admission of evidence is constitutionally permissible can be a
very tough decision. There are many laws and regulations that must be adhered to in order for
evidence to be admissible to ensure that a defendant s right are not violated. One of the most
important rules that help protect against illegal evidence being admitted into evidence is the
Exclusionary rule. This rule helps to ensure that evidence which is admissible into criminal
prosecutions are not only relevant and reliable, but have not violated the fourth or fifth amendment
due to misconduct. Specifically, the exclusionary rule forbids evidence obtained by violating a
defendant s constitutional rights to be introduced by the prosecution for the purpose of proving
direct guilt Gardner Anderson, 2013, pg. 218 219).Police misconduct often leads to evidence that
can either be obtained legally through the use of illegal evidence, evidence that is illegally obtained
through violations of other rules, regulations, a defendants rights, or evidence that is obtained
illegally but falls under one of the exclusionary rule exceptions such as the plain view doctrine
(Gardner Anderson, 2013, pg. 219 221).
Based upon the facts, it is evident that the evidence obtained by Manning is admissible evidence
due to plain (open) view doctrine. The plain (open) doctrine states that if a law officer is where he
or she has a right to be and sees evidence or contraband in plain view, then the evidence

Business Management Answer Book
Important message from the author
Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for purchasing my textbook and for the encouraging words that many of you have
passed on from around the world.
In the final installment, I have put together answers/solutions to all 217 case studies. I hope you
will find these solutions as a useful starting point. As with all B M mark schemes, the solutions in
this Answer
Book should be used with caution and flexibility. Students who take an alternative approach to the
suggested solutions should still be credited where appropriate; teachers should use their
professional judgment in such cases.

Definition of conflict should be given. The possible solutions will depend on the cause(s) of
conflict within the department. For instance:
Poor communication channels lead to misunderstandings; look into improving communications
within the department, e.g. regular team briefings.
Lack of promotional opportunities; perhaps investigate the possibility of delegating responsibility
to allow subordinates to gain valuable experiences.
Given the culture, the new HOD might be expected to be more democratic in his/her approach to
conflict management, e.g. perhaps by using forms of empowerment.
Conflict may also arise if the Principal uses external recruitment to appoint the new HOD.
Any conflict between subordinates will most likely to be dealt with by the HOD, i.e. conflict is
resolved within the department.
The new HOD will therefore need to have good interpersonal and communications skills. S/he may
also need to develop situational management styles with clear goals and objectives for the
Department.

There is a thorough examination of the various ways in which different sources of conflict can be
handled by the Head of Department. Appropriate terms are used with good application.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Polyepoxide
Epoxy or polyepoxide is a cross linking thermosetting polymer that cures (polymerizes and cross
links) when mixed with a hardener or curing agent. Most common epoxy resins are formed by the
polymerization between epichlorohydrin and bisphenol A. Dr. S.O. Greenlee of United States and
Dr. Pierre Castan of Switzerland were in the year 1936, first jointly synthesized bisphenol A based
epoxyresins.
Epoxy resin is most widely used as a matrix for advanced structural composites due to their
superior thermal, electrical and mechanical properties; chemical resistance and dimensional
stability. Epoxy is also used as surface coatings and most widely used as industrial finishes and

Music Is A Important Part Of Our Life
Without music, life would be a mistake. Music is a very important part of our live, and those
who make music are very special in this world. Music not being involved in my life would result
in harmonies and melodies leaving me totally empty. When I was younger , I didn t have the
great love for music as I do now entering the second year of college. I mainly listened to whatever
was playing either in the background or what my mom was listening to. I can personally say that I
didn t have much of a care for musical compositions. At the time I didn t have a preference of the
particular genre of musicmuch, but now as I am older, I enjoy it as it allows me to reminisce on
memories from specific times in my childhood. Once after I had hit my teenage years music began
to become my life and gradually started to inhibit on my soul. Music has the ability to convey all
sorts of emotions in my personal opinion. Whether the emotionis happiness or sadness and despair
through foot tapping rhythms, harmonies and the lyrics music shows it. The musical images that
music and song are able to portray and create are amazing. Music has created the ability to turn
or transport me back in time just like a time machine. Allowing me to revisit lost and forgotten
moments in life. Songs can paint a picture, for example in classical and country music where a
story is being told compared to pop songs. The music in classical music tells a story without lyrics
which is a strong and powerful thing. I

How To Describe Jereon s Drawing
For my first drawing I had a two year old named Jaxon. His Drawing was a bunch of scribbles. He
did use multiple colors and did draw on different parts of the paper. Our setting was at a co worker
s house. The stage I would put Jaxon s drawing in would be the scribble stage. His drawing would
be perfect in the scribble stage because his drawingwas a lot of random scribbling. The scribble
stage is usually for children ages1 ВЅ 2 years of age. Children can be given crayons or markers
once they stop the phase of putting everything in their mouths. Young children do not have much
control over hand movements or the marks on the page this is why lots of the children will scribble

drawn and eventually becomes human figures. Therefore, I put Kaylee in this stage due to the
fact that she drew human figures. Also during this time some children can draw multiple
unrelated shapes and figures. This type of drawing is an example of a child making multiple
drawings of multiple symbols. At the early pictorial stage children search for new ideas, and
their symbols change constantly. A picture a child draws of a lady could look like a different lady

Aristotelian Perspectives on Social Ethics Essay
Aristotelian Perspectives on Social Ethics
I examine the philosophical perspectives of Aristotle on issues of medical ethics and on his social
ethics in general, including the moral issues of abortion, euthanasia, and other issues of social
ethics such as the issue of cloning. I have chosen the domain of applied ethics as viewed from the
Aristotelian point of view precisely because certain issues have been virtually unexamined by
scholars. I shall direct attention to certain treatises of the Aristotelian corpus such as On the History
of Animals, On the Generation of Animals, On the Soul, The Nicomachean Ethics and The Politics.

We learn about the Pythagorean views on marriage and procreation from Iamblichus (BII, 211
212) who indicates that a man should take the best of care for bringing a child into the world
considering both the time and the way this should happen. What is more important, however, is
to relate their views on procreation to their theory of the immortality of the soul. After death the
soul disappears like a dream and dwells in a spiritual heavenly world until it reappears cleansed in
a new birth. (2) The soul keeps only the fragmented happy moments of each of its cycles on an
earthly life and will conclude its dream in the heavenly world, which is interrupted by its visitations
(reincarnations) on earth. Thus, it is evident that for the Pythagoreans and, as result, the Hippocratic
tradition, abortion would be morally unacceptable, since it stops this journey of the soul the
incorporeal part of the human body towards its ultimate enlightenment, i.e. its relation to the divine.
After all, such cases of bloody events like abortions, were seen as possible sources of ritual
impurity. It is also noteworthy that such a view on abortion would relate to the conservative
approach to abortion according to which the fetus has full moral status which implies that its right
to life must be

Americans are generally unmindful of a crisis at hand, until the mass media voices their opinion
onto a public platform. The media controls and manipulates our viewpoints, values, and actions, so
that individuals conform to their bias. They construct and constrict language to accomplish a
specific goal or motive, so it is important for people to not blindly accept information at its face
value. When it comes to interpretation of the oil famine and alternative energy, there is less public
discourse than one would expect to inform individuals on a precarious, worldwide problem. It has
been well documented throughout the ladder half of the twentieth century that fossil fuels are
likely to run out within the lifetime of baby boomers and most certainly be gone in the span of
Generation Y. Likewise, scientists have noted the detrimental cost of burning these fuels to the
environment, which include increasing greenhouse gases and polluting the world s air. A
disproportionate amount of oil is discovered compared to the amount consumed each year.
Supply cannot keep up with the ever growing demand. Yet, oil companies still claim they will
never run out of oil. It is in the best interest for these corporations and the media to keep this
information classified, in order to milk oil for as much capital as possible for as long as possible,
with no regard to the well being of earth and its inhabitants.

Labor in Call Centers
CRITICAL ANALYSIS TAYLOR BAIN
Under scrutinized until the late 1990s, call centres have now got significant scholastic
consideration. The astounding and managed development of call centres, stretching out far past
their starting bases in the financial and telecommunications areas, has bewildered the early
scepticism. The competitive advantage for the companies picked up through the combination of
phone and VDU advances, giving immediate phone based client services and selling led to
widespread of this phenomenon. the growing financial sector has given the UK government s
modernising motivation, which expects to guarantee that, by 2002, 25% of its administrations are
open electronically.
This case they investigated the truth of the labour processes at the call centres and labour related
issues. In this process, it has touched upon civil arguments concerning the way of IT work and the
current organisation. The significance to the call centre labour procedure are two ranges of theories
in concern. Firstly, and in particular, attention will be provided for the pertinence of Foucauldian
electronic Panopticon viewpoints, whose fascination has demonstrated overwhelming to both
prevalent commentators (Arkin, 1997) and scholastics (Fernie and Metcalf, 1997) as they have
endeavored to theorise the nature and knowledge of call centre work. Also, it makes reference to
the idea of emotional labour , as expounded at first by Hochschild (1983).

Unfortunately, in 1987 Enron merged with Valhalla. The problem began because traders exceeded

by purchasing small amounts of now inexpensive oil and distributing it to customers in quietness.
Once Enron was recognized as a chief competitor in the gas marketplace, it began using capitals to
employ its impact on U.S. dogmatic developments. For instance, Kenneth Lay remained indeed one
of President Bush s crucial sponsors through the president s prompt dogmatic profession. On the
other hand, Clinton management retorted to Enron s politicization by associating the deregulation

the data of an organization is stored in a single place such as a mainframe computer or a server.
Users in remote locations access the data through the Wide Area Network (WAN) using the

Stress And The Immune System Essay
Stress And The Immune System
The immune system is a very important part of our bodily functions as its main function is to
protect the body against millions of antigens, which attack our cells and try to reproduce viruses
and diseases. The immune system can protect the body in three different ways, in which are:
1. It creates a barrier that prevents the antigens from initially entering the body.
2. If the antigens do manage to enter the body, then your immune system will try to detect the virus
and abolish it before it begins to spread.
3. If the virus does reproduce and begins to cause problems, your immune system is then
responsible for eliminating it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Kiecolt Glaser et al 1995 =========================
Aims
The aim of this experiment was to determine the effects of stress on the immune system. This was
determined by analysing how quickly a person s wound healed. It naturally is clearly difficult to
create stress within a group of participants to examine how stress does affect your immune system.
Hence Kiecolt Glaser required seeking a group of participants in which naturally have high levels
of chronic stress.
Procedures
Kiecolt Glaser et al 1995 used a group of women who were caring for relatives suffering from a rare
disease called senile dementia. This responsibility has been known to be associated with chronic
stress.
Kiecolt Glaser et al used a matched participants design, which is where the participants are matched
together based on for example age and height. A volunteer sample was used as the participants were
recruited using advertisements.

Origins Of The Byzantine Empire
Culminating Activity Board Information Origins of the Byzantine Empire (330 1453 CE)
The Byzantine Empire is another word for the eastern half of the Roman Empire. It was born after
a series of events that led to the fall of the western half of the Roman Empire. In 285 A.D.,
Diocletian decided to split the Roman Empire in half because the rapidly growing population was
becoming too large to govern for a single person. This decision is considered to be one of the main
acts that led to the downfall of the Western Roman world. The Byzantine Empirebegan to take
shape after Constantine I took control of the Western Roman Empire after winning the Battle of the
Milvian Bridge in October of year 312 A.D. Around 324 A.D., the Constantine I, defeated his co
emperor, Licinius, in a battle. Constantine became the first Christian emperor the Roman Empire
ever had. In 330 A.D., Constantine I relocated the capital of Rome and chose to establish it in the
city on the east, known as Byzantium. The new Roman capital became known as Constantinople.
The Western Roman Empire began to slowly disintegrate as Germanic tribes, like the Vandals
began invading the Western Roman Empire. In 476, the barbarian Odoacer invaded Rome and
overthrew the last emperor, Romulus Augustus, and Rome fall. The fall of the Western Roman
Empire in 476 separated the prosperous eastern half of the Roman Empire and spawned a new
Rome with a rich culture and the most powerful economy in all of Europe. The capital

2. Condition for an Ideal Niche Market. The first condition for a niche market is ideal is if the
market is large enough to be profitable for businesses. The fact that the niche market s size is too
small to offset the cost to the business. In this case the exploring a niche market have no meaning
for business anymore. Secondly, niche markets have to grow potentially. Once businesses have
chosen a niche market, the growth of niche markets synonymous with the growth of the company.
In fact if holding a niche businesses can not afford to expand business will bring a lot of risks, no

The USould Adopt The Metric System
The US should adopt the metric system. The US is one of three countries that still use the imperial
system. Everybody else uses the metric system. We need to change to the metric system because of
two factors, social and economic. There are many reasons why we need to change. Some of the
reasons are conversion errors. Another reason is the metric systemis easier to use. Though the metric
system and the imperial system are quite different.
The Imperial system use feet, inches, and pounds. The metric system use meters and grams and
then it also adds prefixes. To be in more depth, foot is the unit of length, pound is the unit of
weights, and seconds are the unit of time, for the Imperial system. For the metric system, meter is
the basic unit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a lot of conversion errors because we use a different measurement system. For
example, in 1999 NASA s Mars Orbiter spacecraft crash, costing them $125 million dollars. The
project has been already $327.6 million. It should of been 140 150 km above Mars, but instead
it was 57km above. Being so close to Mars s surface cause it to crash. This happened because one
team of engineers used the imperial system and everybody else used the metric system. This
supports my reason, because of one team using a different measurement system cost them
millions of dollars. Another example is Tokyo Disney Space mountain. It shut down because an
axle on it snapped. The bolt that was delivered was 31.75 millimeters, which was 19.25
millimeters too small. That happened because of a conversion error. This supports my reason
because we used a different system they got the wrong sized bolt. My final reason is a passenger
plane ran out of fuel about halfway to their destination. The fuel loading was miscalculated. There
was 7,682 liters in the tank and they needed 22,300 kilograms. They added 4,916 liters and they
needed 20,088 liters. This supports my reason, because they miscalculated they ran out of fuel.
That s my main examples for the social factor. The social factor is not the only factor. Another
main factor for the US to change to the metric system is economic. It s costing us money for not
changing. For example any company that deals outside the US has to deal with conversions
between the metric and the imperial systems. Even when they know how to switch the units, they
still made errors. Those errors cost them money, and why are these errors happening can be
contribute to learning the metric system at an early

The Importance Of Chinese Culture
The country I would like to teach in would be in China, specifically Shenzhen. Chinese culture is
vast and unique and has been changed through many factors throughout history. Mainland China is
a beautiful place right next to to the equally beautiful Hong Kong. Shenzhen itself has been
influenced by western culture just like Hong Konghas, but with its roots in the mainland, it still
maintains its policies and traditions. It s culture can be considered a hybrid of both Mainland and
Hong Kong Chinadue to proximity.
In China, there s the culture you see on the surface and the culture you see below the surface.
There are many real world lifestyle differences that can be perceived and even more that must be
experienced. When moving to China, you will first encounter surface level cultural differences,
some of which being population density and dress expectations. Population in China is vastly
different and much denser than the U.S. or most places in the world for that matter. China has
over 160 cities with a population of over 1 million as stated by the University of Missouri,
Kansas City. In China, dressing is much different as well, clothing styles that would be considered
the norm in America can be considered taboo in China. In the U.S. showing some skin is perfectly
acceptable due to the general agreement body confidence is good. But if you wear something

James Madison and the Federalist Papers
On September 17, 1787, the Philadelphia Convention sent their new constitution to the states for
ratification. The Federalists highly approved of the Constitution because it allowed for a more
central and powerful government that was previously undermined under the Articles of
Confederation. The Anti Federalists, however, didn t want a powerful central government, but,
instead, powerful state governments; in response to the Constitution, many Anti Federalists began
writing essays and creating pamphlets as a means of arguing against it. In retaliation to the Anti
Federalists attempt at getting states to not ratify the Constitution, many Federalists developed a
group of essays known as the Federalist Papers, which argued for the... Show more content on

In addition, Madison reasons that the public would fair better if the public voice [was]
pronounced by the representatives of the people, rather that by the people themselves. This
reasoning leads to Madison s next difference between a republic and a democracy, which states
that a republic will be able to be extended to a greater number of citizens, and greater sphere of
country. With a republic, everyone is represented in the Congress, where as in a democracy, only
certain factions, as Madison calls them, are represented. A republic, like said above, doesn t
have these factions, and Madison again reasons that the fewer the distinct parties and interests,
the more frequently will a majority be found of the same party. The new system of government
outlined in the Constitution had allotted provisions so the number of representatives in the
legislative body would not be proportion to that of the constituents, as suggested in the New
Jersey Plan. Madison advocated this system of government because it would guard against the
cabals of a few and the confusion of a multitude. The republic would be large enough so that the
power of the legislation wouldn t be placed in the hands of a few (oligarchy), but not large
enough that Congress wouldn t be able to pass any laws because there are so many opinions.
Madison s blatant examples of the advantages a republic has over a democracy also call into
questions his

Theories Of Plate Tectonics
Plate Tectonics have been recently discovered. Earthquakes and volcanoes can now be located
and the public can find out when it will erupt or occur. Our earth has a fragile shell, which moves
around recycling itself, to form new layers of crust. The theory of plate tectonics was helped
develop by the theory of plate tectonics. Convection currents and gravitational forces move tectonic
plates. The contact between plates, creates earthquakes, volcanoes, islands and mid ocean ridges.
Mountain ranges, are examples of converging plates and modern technology can help scientists
locate tumours or movement in the Earth. Thesis Convection currents and Plate tectonics explains

Injustice In Selma
Selma, directed by Ava DuVernay, is a depressingly relevant film. With protests over the murders
of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and Antonio Martin, the subject of police brutality, specifically
targeted at black people and protesters, is extremely appropriate. The brutalities inflicted on
African Americans in the 1960 s are highly shocking, but it is the knowledge that citizens are still
being murdered by our police that truly hits the hardest. Director Ava DuVernay uses intimate
moments and talented actors to adeptly balance the moral lessons inherent to this story with the
humanization of the venerated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The film covers a fairly short period of
time during the year 1965; during this time period, Dr. King (played by David Oleyowo) was

This look into the inner life of King and his family adds another level of depth and contrast to the
story, giving the viewer something to empathize with. This sense of empathy is crucial when
appealing to an audience in awe of Dr. King. Additionally, these personal family scenes have FBI
logs superimposed over them, a great touch that adds a certain insidiousness to these heartfelt
moments, the knowledge that their lives are in danger even from their government. David
Oleyowo s portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. is uncannily close to the real historical figure;
this is most apparent in the scenes of Dr. King giving a speech, as most of us have heard at least
one of King s speeches, giving us a point of comparison. Selma was nominated in the Best
Picture category at the Oscars, but in my opinion, Oleyowo was even more deserving of a
nomination in the Best Male Actor category. As a sidenote, the complete lack of people of color
nominated for acting awards in this year s Oscars is a travesty unto itself, but it is especially so in
my eyes after this movie. This film made it all the more apparent that there

The two tribes each had to work hard with the things around them to survive for shelter , clothing ,

Nez percetribe of the plateau interacted with their environment differently and similarly to provide
food, shelter and clothing for their people.

in our Encyclopedia of Native American Tribes , The centerpiece of the Makah diet was sea

Makah , Nootka, and a few neighboring tribes were the only coastal peoples to pursue gray
whales. The coastal tribes mainly went fishing due to the ocean near their villages , the coastal
tribe mainly ate seafood , For instance , Men also fished for salmon halibut and hunted land

Cyber Criminals, Thieves, And Terrorism
Every day, hospitals in the United States and around the world are working long hours in
responding to emergencies, attending patients, delivering newborn babies, performing surgeries,
and foremost saving lives. Not too long ago, cyberspace has given institutions such as hospitals the
tools to accumulate and file as much information and data as possible in this great space of
technology, networks, and systems. Information such as patient s information, treatments,
machinery, as well as having a better way to have a secure place to store them and have
authorization in accessing them. However, such tools had been used as weapons by those who
want to have access and possession of such critical information and control by cyber criminals,
thieves, and terrorists. Unfortunately, it s not simple to live in a world in which laws can just
simply protect institutions that help save lives. Rather, hospitals have fallen as victims of
cyberattacks.
On the evening of February 5th, at Los Angeles, California, doctors and staff from Hollywood
Presbyterian Medical Center, noticed several technical issues while trying to access the hospital s
computer network. The hospital s IT department was notified, and they began their investigation to
determine the cause of these issues. However, these issues carried on for approximately a week,
which was a frustration for doctors and staff members because they were unable to digitally access
patient s medical records and treatments, communication via

The Effects Of Post Traumatic Stress On Brain Functioning
Hypothesis and Aims
The aim of this study is to assess the effects of post traumatic stress on brain functioning, in
particular executive functioning and information processing of children and adolescents. This study
also aims to evaluate prazosin as a treatment for post traumatic stress disorder in children and
adolescents. Specifically, the study focuses on the treatment of sleep disturbances such as insomnia,
nightmares and altered sleep schedules. The hypotheses of this study is that the subjects with PTSD
will perform weaker in the tasks given compared to healthy subjects, and that prazosin will improve
their sleep cycles and overall conditions.

Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a condition in which an individual ... Show more content on

In normal brain functioning and NE levels, alpha 2 receptors are strongly stimulated and PFC
performance is enhanced, whilst amygdala function is reduced. By blocking alpha 1 receptors or
stimulating alpha 2 receptors, stress symptoms can be relieved. Because of this, alpha 1 receptor
antagonists and alpha 2 receptor stimulants have been explored for the treatment of PTSD. A
successful alpha 1 receptor antagonist that has been used in various studies of PTSD treatment in
adults is prazosin. Several studies have shown that prazosin significantly reduces symptoms of
PTSD in adults, nightmares and sleep disturbance in particular, and improved the overall wellbeing
of patients (5 10).
There have been no trials for the effects of prazosin on children and young adolescents. However
there are a few case reports of the successful treatment of PTSD symptoms on young individuals as
an adjunctive treatment or alone, and with comorbid conditions (11 15). These cases involved a
seven year old child (14), two fifteen year olds (11,15) and three sixteen year olds (12,13,15). These
cases all involved patients with sleep difficulties and insomnia due to nightmares and avoidance
behaviours. Some patients underwent psychotherapy treatments which ultimately failed to alleviate
their symptoms, and so prazosin was prescribed. Others had very severe conditions, some of which
subsided following psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy, but still possessed

Essay about The Underlying Causes of Teen Pregnancy
Before successfully preventing teen pregnancies among teenage girls, there are many underlying
causes and facts about the dilemma that must be first exposed. Children from homes run by teenage
mothers have to face almost insurmountable obstacles in life. The incidents of depression and
mental health problems, the lack of father figures, and the high rate of poverty often connected to
children in homes run by teenage mothers put them at serious disadvantages when compared to
children raised in nuclear families. Many people believe that the implementation of sex educationin
schools and the addition of more federal aid for single parents are major causes for the country s
high rate of teen pregnancies. The true purpose of sex education and... Show more content on

(Psychology Today, 2003) Girls who see their single mothers date many partners may become
primed for early sexual exploration. Or, a father s absence early in life may trigger doubts in girls
about male reliability that hasten sexual activity and reproduction, as well as promote a preference
for brief relationships.
Juvenile abuse of alcohol and other drugs is strongly associated with risk taking behavior, including
promiscuity. According to the 1999 National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA)
study quot;Dangerous Liaisons, quot; increased promiscuity leads to a greater risk for sexually
transmitted diseases and unplanned teenage pregnancy (National Center on Addiction and
Substance Abuse 1999). Adolescents aged fourteen and younger who use alcohol are twice
more likely to engage in sexual behaviors than non drinkers; drug users are five times more likely
to be sexually active than youth who are drug free. Teens between the age of fifteen and nineteen
who drink are seven times more likely to have sex and twice as likely to have four or more
partners than those who refrain from alcohol. Furthermore, more than 50 percent of teenagers say
that sex while drinking or on drugs often produces unplanned pregnancies. An Ohio study of high
school girls who tried cocaine indicated that these adolescents were five times more likely to have
experienced an unintended pregnancy than peers who avoided

Human Flourishing theory of property holds that [t]he moral foundation of property, both as a
concept and as an institution, is human flourishing. The purpose of property is to enable people a
foundation to enable people to live an objectively well lived life, therefore property decisions should
be structured around this goal. Under this theory property owners owe obligations to members of
their communities to perform certain duties to enable people to have necessary capabilities in order
to live well lived lives, owners are responsible for the continued well being of these communities
which have nurtured and continue to nurture the development of their personal capabilities

what decision should be made. In this situation, the Beacon Hill Civic Association has made the

of property of taking other laws and fairness into consideration. We do not get easy answers and
the law is not reflective of just on property theory and therefore we must find a way to work these

  • 3. The Pearl Character Analysis The Pearl, had many different characters with faults. Those faults seemed very small as the story began, however those tiny flaws quickly became noticeable and conflicting. After being exposed to such bad and wrong, the characters begin to really show their true colors. They show who they really are under the influence of their faults, whether it be greed or desperateness. The characters being completely different yet still try to show some connection and do things they would not do otherwise. Most characters need some sort of light to shine upon their dark dreams as Steinbeck says. There are many characters and scenes to talk about in the story but the main thing to discuss are certain characters faults in their goals, failures to see past grees, and their dreams. Strangely enough, there is the well known doctor whowould not see the ill baby at the beginning of the story till he heard about the pearlKino found. It was at this point when the doctorfelt the urge to suddenly head on over to Kino s town to check up on his child. This is a major fault that goes along with his character. His failure is due to selfishness, as he wants the pearl to go to Paris. They flat out state before the character was even introduced, And they knew the doctor. They knew his ignorance, his cruelty, his avarice, his appetites, his sins (Steinbeck chapter 1). He pretends as though he d love to take Kino and Juana, but it is well known he just wants their funds. He even gives the baby ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who is this woman? She is Cleopatra. Even though she is known as a great Egyptian ruler, she was actually Greek (Mark). Cleopatra of Egypt lived an exciting life full of scandals and war, and she is still regarded as one of the most powerful women in history. • 7. The Pen Of Thomas Paine These are the times that try men s souls. Rarely have there been as powerful and as meaningful words as these from the pen of Thomas Paine. Paine was one of the many men who experienced the harsh effects of the war. The war was deadly, more deadly than ever could be expressed through words. The extremes of the war were felt by all, although some felt the cruelty the war more than others. Men from many different walks of life and men from different sides of the war all had their souls tried by this war. Some of the men, who joined the Colonial Army, could not take these trials once the going got tough. When the war started in the summer of 1776, the Army was doing well with the victory of Boston behind them, and with the excitement of defending Manhattan in the future, many men joined the Colonial Army. When the Americans lost New York, started to retreat through New Jersey, and the weather turned rainy, the number of men in the Colonial Army started to drop significantly. Men were deserting or waiting until their enlistments were up and then would not re enlist (McCullough 249). These numbers dropped even farther once the weather turned poor when the rain and snow came (McCullough 81). This shows precisely what Paine meant by his second statement in The American Crisis, The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country... • 8. Argumentative Essay On Hero Vs Monster Hero Versus Monster The classic story of hero versus monster has been around for as long as we as human have been telling them. There is something about a good hero, or even more so a good monster that fascinates and intrigues the human mind. We love stories of underdogs prevailing against the odds just as much as we enjoy the monsters they are put up against. Modern day hero versus monster stories take place between radically different parties then that of early human history however. Often today the hero and the monster can be the same person, with ourselves being our worst enemies. Back in early human history, complications, disagreements, and issues generally took place between two parties. Introspection, the examination or observation of one s own mental and emotional processes, was not as prevalent as it is today. While our modern day society still deals with issues between two individuals, many of the issues we are confronted with now are internal struggles with ourselves. Low ... The term hero in modern day English is defined as someone who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities, but who and as well as what makes a hero is more up to the eyes of the beholder than anything else. While a hero for many is someone that plays a role model figure in their lives, many a time do they forget that they themselves are one of the most heroic and courageous persons in their lives. Tasks such as overcoming crippling depression, working up the courage to step out of one s comfort zone and try something new, or working through a traumatic death in a family are all examples of invisible heroes, heroes that cannot be seen but are felt instead. • 10. Water Pollution In South Africa Introduction Water is a scarce resource in South Africa, making the countries rural citizens highly dependent on rivers, dams and underground water as a water supply. The countries increasing population has seen an increase in the demand for water but also a decrease in its accessibility. This is because an increase in population also increases the rate of pollution of water. Through estimation, it is said that South Africa s population will have doubled by the year 2025, thus further endangering the quality of water in South Africa. (Staff Writer, 2015) The consumption of water of poor quality can be fatal not only to human lives but also the lives of the animals or livestock that consume it. Bacteria and viruses within water are the causes of water borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid and gastroenteritis. One of the main causes of death for children in South Africa under the age of five is, in fact, gastroenteritis. These diseases pose a greater threat to the informal settlers situated along river banks (or any other natural water source) because they use the water directly from the river without sufficiently purifying it or without purifying it at all. Also, their ability to seek good medical care after exposure is limited. This means that they are more likely to die from a water borne disease that is otherwise preventable. (Umngeni Valley Nature Reserve, 2017) The aim and focus of this investigation is to determine the impact that the town of Howick has on the water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This honey helps consumers alleviate pain, allergies and naturally sweetens drinks. Honeybees have many adaptations for defense: Adults have orange and black striping that acts as warning coloration. Predators can learn to associate that pattern with a painful sting, and avoid them. Honeybees prefer to build their hives in protected cavities (small caves or tree hollows). • 13. Virginia Horn Project Essay 1.0 Summary Historic data analysis, 3D models, interpretations of geophysical data, prospecting results and a mineral potential map of the Virginia Horn (VH) project are presented. Comparison of data from the VH to analog gold hosting rocks in Canada suggest that future exploration should focus on identifying Au bearing veins in the Midway sequence, within 300 meters of the Pike River fault (PRF). Specifically, exploration drilling should be conducted in the buried area north of the Jola and Sopp excavation pit, where the PRF is inferred to have experienced compressional bending and a silicified/arsenopyrite rich metasediment (?) boulder has been discovered. A high resolution aeromagnetic (or electromagnetic) survey would enhance a geologic interpretation of the VH, but may not be necessary as currently available data justify further exploration in the high potential area outlined in this report. 2.0 Introduction The VH is located in northern MN, USA, approximately 60 miles north of Duluth and 3 miles southeast of Virginia. It is named for the abrupt bend in the Proterozoic Biwabik iron formation and subsequent horn shape of exposed Archean bedrock. • 14. Television Show Keeping Up With The Kardashians The Kardashians are known for their hit reality TV show Keeping up with the Kardashians. The show features a family that deals with what they consider as everyday problems and lead ostensibly normal lives, hence the name Reality TV. The family gained its fame originally when Robert Kardashian defended O.J. Simpson in court in 1995. O.J. Simpson was accused of murdering his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her ex boyfriend, Ronald Goldman (Linder). Many politicians have started out their careers as lawyers, and sometimes become famous because they either defended or prosecuted important cases. Julius Caesaralso gained his fame in the court system. Caesar was prosecuting two men that were followers of Sulla, who was an influential leader. This is not the only connection that can be distinguished between the Kardashians and Julius Caesar. Kim Kardashian, although she was already well known at the time, increased her fame even more by marrying Kanye West in May of 2014 (Stephens). Julius Caesar, similarly, married Cornelia, who was the daughter of a noble. This helped him to gain fame and support in the political world of Rome. Another similarity between Caesar and the Kardashians is their ability to self advertise. Kim Kardashian has always been known for her ability to get the attention of the public through social media. Whether it be because of a scandalous photo, or an outrageous rumor that she wants to expose as untrue, she always manages to advertise something about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Urbanization In The Late Nineteenth Century Urbanization in the United States in the late nineteenth century resulted from a number of factors, in particular the rise of commercial activity following the Civil War and the industrialization of the period. During that post bellum period, cities grew along with a rising population of those residing in the cities. Although those two factors might, at first, appear to be the same, they are, in fact, different. In one early study from immediately after the period (Jefferson, 1915), scholars observed that American cities grew by about 15 million people in the two decades before 1900. Immigration from other countries certainly featured significantly in that growth, but the industrial revolutionalso played a significant role (Schultz, 2013, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Reverend Dimmesdale s Irony The Scarlet Letter is set in the mid 1800 s, a time of strong religious values where adultery was considered one of the most horrendous sins one could commit. The novel takes place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony; a community with deeply rooted religious morals. This setting that Nathaniel Hawthorne chose heightens the severity of the wrongdoing that Hester, the novel s protagonist, perpetrates. Reverend Dimmesdale, a church figure who is widely respected throughout the community, commits the exact same crime as Hester, however the two handled their situations very differently. (Hawthorne, 65). Obviously, Hawthorne designs this to be a thoroughly ironic situation. Not only is it odd that the reverend, of all people, would commit adultery; but it is ironic that he would pressure Hester so heavily to essentially expose him. From this point in the novel on, Dimmesdale is engaged in a constant internal struggle with himself; he can t bring himself to admit the truth, yet he suffers an intense sense of guilt for staying quiet. As if the internal conflict with himself wasn t difficult enough, Dimmesdale must work through his guilt while Hester s ex husband, Roger Chillingworth seeks vengeance. The returned sailor is determined to see him tremble... Let him hide himself in outward honor, if he may! Not the less he shall be mine! (Hawthorne, 73). Meanwhile, Dimmesdale doesn t even know who this man is. Chillingworth plays mind games with Dimmesdale. For example, Dimmesdale asks Chillingworth where he found an herb one day. Chillingworth ominously replied They grew out of [a dead person s] heart, and typify, it may be, some hideous secret that was buried with him, and which he had done better to confess during his lifetime (Hawthorne, 127). There are many laws and regulations that must be adhered to in order for evidence to be admissible to ensure that a defendant s right are not violated. One of the most important rules that help protect against illegal evidence being admitted into evidence is the Exclusionary rule. This rule helps to ensure that evidence which is admissible into criminal prosecutions are not only relevant and reliable, but have not violated the fourth or fifth amendment due to misconduct. Specifically, the exclusionary rule forbids evidence obtained by violating a defendant s constitutional rights to be introduced by the prosecution for the purpose of proving direct guilt Gardner Anderson, 2013, pg. 218 219).Police misconduct often leads to evidence that can either be obtained legally through the use of illegal evidence, evidence that is illegally obtained through violations of other rules, regulations, a defendants rights, or evidence that is obtained illegally but falls under one of the exclusionary rule exceptions such as the plain view doctrine (Gardner Anderson, 2013, pg. 219 221). For instance: Poor communication channels lead to misunderstandings; look into improving communications within the department, e.g. regular team briefings. After death the soul disappears like a dream and dwells in a spiritual heavenly world until it reappears cleansed in a new birth. The Western Roman Empire began to slowly disintegrate as Germanic tribes, like the Vandals began invading the Western Roman Empire. In 476, the barbarian Odoacer invaded Rome and overthrew the last emperor, Romulus Augustus, and Rome fall. To be in more depth, foot is the unit of length, pound is the unit of weights, and seconds are the unit of time, for the Imperial system. For the metric system, meter is the basic unit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are a lot of conversion errors because we use a different measurement system. For example, in 1999 NASA s Mars Orbiter spacecraft crash, costing them $125 million dollars. The project has been already $327.6 million. It should of been 140 150 km above Mars, but instead it was 57km above. Being so close to Mars s surface cause it to crash. This happened because one team of engineers used the imperial system and everybody else used the metric system. This supports my reason, because of one team using a different measurement system cost them millions of dollars. Another example is Tokyo Disney Space mountain. It shut down because an axle on it snapped. The bolt that was delivered was 31.75 millimeters, which was 19.25 millimeters too small. That happened because of a conversion error. This supports my reason because we used a different system they got the wrong sized bolt. My final reason is a passenger plane ran out of fuel about halfway to their destination. The fuel loading was miscalculated. There was 7,682 liters in the tank and they needed 22,300 kilograms. They added 4,916 liters and they needed 20,088 liters. This supports my reason, because they miscalculated they ran out of fuel. That s my main examples for the social factor. The social factor is not the only factor. Another main factor for the US to change to the metric system is economic. It s costing us money for not changing. For example any company that deals outside the US has to deal with conversions between the metric and the imperial systems. Even when they know how to switch the units, they still made errors. Those errors cost them money, and why are these errors happening can be contribute to learning the metric system at an early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Importance Of Chinese Culture The country I would like to teach in would be in China, specifically Shenzhen. Chinese culture is vast and unique and has been changed through many factors throughout history. Mainland China is a beautiful place right next to to the equally beautiful Hong Kong. Shenzhen itself has been influenced by western culture just like Hong Konghas, but with its roots in the mainland, it still maintains its policies and traditions. It s culture can be considered a hybrid of both Mainland and Hong Kong Chinadue to proximity. In China, there s the culture you see on the surface and the culture you see below the surface. There are many real world lifestyle differences that can be perceived and even more that must be experienced. When moving to China, you will first encounter surface level cultural differences, some of which being population density and dress expectations. Population in China is vastly different and much denser than the U.S. or most places in the world for that matter. China has over 160 cities with a population of over 1 million as stated by the University of Missouri, Kansas City. In China, dressing is much different as well, clothing styles that would be considered the norm in America can be considered taboo in China. In the U.S. showing some skin is perfectly acceptable due to the general agreement body confidence is good. But if you wear something revealing (e.g. a crop top), it comes with a very negative connotation, people asssuming your in a lucrative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. `` Design Is For Living `` Design is for living . The adage fashioned a widespread shift in design during the 1940s and 1950s. It revolutionized the form by creating an electrifying visual language that signaled a new age and a fresh start two of the powerhouses were Charles and Ray Eames. The Eameses were a husband and wife team whose unique synergy led to a whole new expression in furniture and architecture. The couple advocated the principles of Modernism through the adaptation of innovaВ¬tion from wartime technology .Their design style can be branded as California Modernism, a term that is often used interchangeably with Mid Century Modernism. This distinct style embodied an approach to design that opposed the social conscience of the Bauhaus in order to embrace looser, warmer design which was both more expressive of local character and in touch with the realities of commerce and salesmanship. With the west coast coming of age, economy shift from making goods to producing information and the global expansion of American culture; their lives and work embodied some of America s defining movements. They contributed to architecture, film, industrial and graphic design. They were known as pioneers of affordable mass production and residential constructions. The Federalists highly approved of the Constitution because it allowed for a more central and powerful government that was previously undermined under the Articles of Confederation. The Anti Federalists, however, didn t want a powerful central government, but, instead, powerful state governments; in response to the Constitution, many Anti Federalists began writing essays and creating pamphlets as a means of arguing against it. In retaliation to the Anti Federalists attempt at getting states to not ratify the Constitution, many Federalists developed a group of essays known as the Federalist Papers, which argued for the... In addition, Madison reasons that the public would fair better if the public voice [was] pronounced by the representatives of the people, rather that by the people themselves. This reasoning leads to Madison s next difference between a republic and a democracy, which states that a republic will be able to be extended to a greater number of citizens, and greater sphere of country. With a republic, everyone is represented in the Congress, where as in a democracy, only certain factions, as Madison calls them, are represented. A republic, like said above, doesn t have these factions, and Madison again reasons that the fewer the distinct parties and interests, the more frequently will a majority be found of the same party. The new system of government outlined in the Constitution had allotted provisions so the number of representatives in the legislative body would not be proportion to that of the constituents, as suggested in the New Jersey Plan. Madison advocated this system of government because it would guard against the cabals of a few and the confusion of a multitude. The republic would be large enough so that the power of the legislation wouldn t be placed in the hands of a few (oligarchy), but not large enough that Congress wouldn t be able to pass any laws because there are so many opinions. Madison s blatant examples of the advantages a republic has over a democracy also call into questions his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Injustice In Selma Selma, directed by Ava DuVernay, is a depressingly relevant film. With protests over the murders of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and Antonio Martin, the subject of police brutality, specifically targeted at black people and protesters, is extremely appropriate. The brutalities inflicted on African Americans in the 1960 s are highly shocking, but it is the knowledge that citizens are still being murdered by our police that truly hits the hardest. Director Ava DuVernay uses intimate moments and talented actors to adeptly balance the moral lessons inherent to this story with the humanization of the venerated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The film covers a fairly short period of time during the year 1965; during this time period, Dr. King (played by David Oleyowo) was directly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This look into the inner life of King and his family adds another level of depth and contrast to the story, giving the viewer something to empathize with. This sense of empathy is crucial when appealing to an audience in awe of Dr. King. David Oleyowo s portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. is uncannily close to the real historical figure; this is most apparent in the scenes of Dr. King giving a speech, as most of us have heard at least one of King s speeches, giving us a point of comparison. Selma was nominated in the Best Picture category at the Oscars, but in my opinion, Oleyowo was even more deserving of a nomination in the Best Male Actor category. As a sidenote, the complete lack of people of color nominated for acting awards in this year s Oscars is a travesty unto itself, but it is especially so in my eyes after this movie. This film made it all the more apparent that there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cyber Criminals, Thieves, And Terrorism Every day, hospitals in the United States and around the world are working long hours in responding to emergencies, attending patients, delivering newborn babies, performing surgeries, and foremost saving lives. Not too long ago, cyberspace has given institutions such as hospitals the tools to accumulate and file as much information and data as possible in this great space of technology, networks, and systems. Information such as patient s information, treatments, machinery, as well as having a better way to have a secure place to store them and have authorization in accessing them. However, such tools had been used as weapons by those who want to have access and possession of such critical information and control by cyber criminals, thieves, and terrorists. Unfortunately, it s not simple to live in a world in which laws can just simply protect institutions that help save lives. Rather, hospitals have fallen as victims of cyberattacks. On the evening of February 5th, at Los Angeles, California, doctors and staff from Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, noticed several technical issues while trying to access the hospital s computer network. The hospital s IT department was notified, and they began their investigation to determine the cause of these issues. In normal brain functioning and NE levels, alpha 2 receptors are strongly stimulated and PFC performance is enhanced, whilst amygdala function is reduced. By blocking alpha 1 receptors or stimulating alpha 2 receptors, stress symptoms can be relieved. Because of this, alpha 1 receptor antagonists and alpha 2 receptor stimulants have been explored for the treatment of PTSD. A successful alpha 1 receptor antagonist that has been used in various studies of PTSD treatment in adults is prazosin. Several studies have shown that prazosin significantly reduces symptoms of PTSD in adults, nightmares and sleep disturbance in particular, and improved the overall wellbeing of patients (5 10). There have been no trials for the effects of prazosin on children and young adolescents. However there are a few case reports of the successful treatment of PTSD symptoms on young individuals as an adjunctive treatment or alone, and with comorbid conditions (11 15). These cases involved a seven year old child (14), two fifteen year olds (11,15) and three sixteen year olds (12,13,15). These cases all involved patients with sleep difficulties and insomnia due to nightmares and avoidance behaviours. Some patients underwent psychotherapy treatments which ultimately failed to alleviate their symptoms, and so prazosin was prescribed. Others had very severe conditions, some of which subsided following psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy, but still possessed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Or, a father s absence early in life may trigger doubts in girls about male reliability that hasten sexual activity and reproduction, as well as promote a preference for brief relationships. Juvenile abuse of alcohol and other drugs is strongly associated with risk taking behavior, including promiscuity. According to the 1999 National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) study quot;Dangerous Liaisons, quot; increased promiscuity leads to a greater risk for sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned teenage pregnancy (National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse 1999). Adolescents aged fourteen and younger who use alcohol are twice more likely to engage in sexual behaviors than non drinkers; drug users are five times more likely to be sexually active than youth who are drug free. Teens between the age of fifteen and nineteen who drink are seven times more likely to have sex and twice as likely to have four or more partners than those who refrain from alcohol.
