Zocalo Research Paper
Zocalo Restaurant Review Mediocre is defined as of only moderate quality or value . As I

figured that out too because there was no line. Even though we were в…• of the people there, it

it is missing something. When I sat I noticed how uncomfortable the seats

Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven Essay
An Analysis of Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
Death. A strong topic, frequently but solemnly discussed. However, when I read Edgar Allan Poe
s The Raven , I was immediately captivated by the new angle brought to my attention regarding
death. While the topic of death is usually associated with either sympathy or horror, Poe succeeded
in portraying a feeling caught between the two; and at the same time bringing forth new feelings I
would never thought to consider regarding death. These feelings reflect a sorrow so deep into a
psychological madness, a feeling that the pain death brings has ruined one forever. After analyzing
this poem I came to the conclusion that Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven demonstrates that the sorrow
the death of a loved one brings will stay with you forever. Poe communicated this theme through
abstract language , tone, and allusion.
The opening lines of The Raven identify the speaker as someone who feels tired and weak but is
still awake in the middle of a gloomy night. He passes the time by reading a strange book of
ancient knowledge. The first line of the poem contains alliteration of w in while, weak, and weary
to produce the effect of unsteadiness. This line also sets the poem s rhythmical pattern and
provides the first example of the use of internal rhyme in dreary and weary. The speaker tells of
becoming more tired and beginning to doze but being wakened by a sound that he assumes is a
quiet knock. Internal rhymes of napping, tapping,

Under the Black Umbrella and Japanese Colonization of Korea
The Japanese occupied Korea in 1910 after many years of struggle between different countries.
Throughout the centuries there were multiple events that lead to this colonization. The events
became disordered in 1864, when King Kojong ascended to the throne. He was too young, so his
father Taewon gun became the de facto ruler. His goals were to re establish the power of the
government, develop a policy of national exclusionism and continue to persecute the Catholics.
During his rule, western men came in search of trade, but the Taewon gun refused them. Japan
repeatedly made attempts to establish political relations with Koreabut they continually refused. In
return the Japanese declared war on Korea. Meanwhile, the Taewon gun felt as if he... Show more

He says It was disgusting, I almost threw up. But when you are so hungry, what can you do? We
just ate the rest of the soup, (62). These farmers were slaves to the Japanese and were not getting
repaid. They were desperate to eat. On the other hand, there were also positive impacts. If the
Japanese did not take control over Korea, then the Korean economy would have bankrupted without
such financial aid from Japan. In order for them to get out of their financial trouble the Japanese
helped Korea progress in agriculture, energy, transportation, communications systems, and
commercial distribution. The transformation process allowed Koreans to acquire more jobs and
perform other jobs more efficiently. The country was modernized with new roads, railroads, cable
lines and new schools.
In the beginning, modernization was not much of a positive idea. In the story of Kim Sangsun,
he discussed how he wanted to be a truck driver, but it was impossible for civilians to run their
own truck driving business. He stated this because, Japan had started the war with China and had
taken all of the available trucks to the front, (68). As the economy grew civilians were forced
away from their small farms to work in factories. Mainly the building of new transportation and
industry was designed to exploit Korean resources for the benefit of Japan. Since this was mainly
not beneficial to Koreans, this was a negative

The pay for performance incentive compensation program is designed to measure the variations of
the healthcare professional performance, as well as motive them in improving the efficiency and

Essay Sherman Alexie
Sherman Alexie
The odds were against Sherman Alexie on that day in October 1966. Not only was he born a
minority, but he was also hydrocephalic. At the age of 6 months, he had a brain operation, but was
not expected to live. Though he pulled through, doctors predicted he would be severely mentally
retarded. Fortunately, they were wrong, but he did suffer through seizures and wet his bed
throughout his childhood ( What 1).
Rather than being called Native American, which he feels is a guilty white liberal term, he prefers
to be called Indian. He is a Spokane/Coeur d Alene Indian, in fact, and grew up on the Spokane
Indian Reservation in Wellpinit, Washington. To avoid being picked on by the other reservation
kids, he spent most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of Alexie s writing reflects life on the reservations today. The poverty, oppression, commodity
food, and alcoholism are the main themes in his stories. The title story of his collection The Lone
Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven, however, deals with the life of an Indian man who has
left the reservation to live in Seattle and some of the obstacles he faces in the white world. We
never know the main character s name, probably because he feels like a nameless nobody in this
strange world. He is alienated and told that he doesn t belong even
though he is the true aborigine. When a policeman pulls him over one night and asks him where
are you supposed to be? (182), he clearly shows his alienation by thinking, I knew there were
plenty of places I wanted to be, but none where I was supposed to be (182). He realizes he is
making people nervous (183) because he doesn t fit the profile of the neighborhood (183) in which
he is driving. But it isn t just that neighborhood, or any other nice neighborhood. He wants to tell
the policeman that he doesn t fit the profile of the country, but he knows it would just get [him] in
trouble (183).
Racism also plays a role in his frustrations. Stopping by the 7 11 in the middle of the night to pick
up a Creamsicle is not always a pleasant experience. Maybe the clerk is nervous because he s
working the graveyard shift. Or maybe,

Global Financing and Exchange Rate Mechanisms
Currency is unreliable. In some countries the United States dollar is worth more than that countries
currency, while in other countries the U.S. dollar is worth less. The exchange rate fluctuates on a
continuous base which makes the term funny money more realistic each day. The purpose of this
paper is to discuss hard and soft currency, the South African rand, Cuban pesos, and why the
exchange rates fluctuate.
Hard currency is a currency, usually from a highly industrialized country, that is largely accepted
globally as a form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rand is a parallel currency that was exclusively used for nonresident capital movements during
the 1980s and 1990s. The financial rand was available to foreigners for investment only in South
Africa was formulated by the sale of nonresidents assets in the country (Country Data, 1996). The
two tiered currency system insulated the country s foreign reserves from politically stimulated
capital flight, because all divestment by nonresidents were automatically met by new investment,
and the price of the financial rand varied independently of the commercial rand (Country Data,
1996). Ultimately, South Africa s economic growth depends upon increasing gold profits and
foreign investments.
The Cuban Pesos (CUP) is the official currency in Cuba. The American dollar is not accepted on
government business in Cuba since November 2004. All of the stores that sold goods in
American currency changed to the Cuban Convertible Pesos (CUC). Pesos convertibles cost the
equivalent of $1.18 United States Dollars (USD). In Cuba, currency is exchanged every day, and
it is a known fact that the pesos are unstable. The Cuban Pesos is equivalent to 100 cents
(centavos). The notes can be of the following denominations: 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 pesos;
coins can be of 1, 5, and 20 centavos (Cuba Currency, 2005).

Pmf Job Fair Essay
After attending the PMF Job fair on Monday, I ve learned more information about the process
that I thought would be helpful to pass along. The purpose of the Presidential Management
Fellowship is to recruit candidates for jobs that are traditionally harder to fill and provide them
with the training needed to become a leader in that role. Although the agency would have to pay
a $7,000 fee and also fund 160 hours of training within the 2 years of the fellowship, this is an
opportunity for the agency to recruit qualified staff at a fraction of the cost. Regular positions
are often converted into PMF positions to fill agencies needs by the designated Human
resources Manger. For example, you are trying to fill the position we discussed at the GS 12/13
level but it may be difficult to recruit someone who is highly qualified. You could hire a PMF with
experience like mine at a GS 9/11 level and train them for the position. At the end of the first year
of this two year fellowship, if I receive favorable scores on my performance review, I move up to a
GS 11/12. At the end of the fellowship, if I continue to do well on evaluations I advance to a GS
12/13. Usually, PMF s are converted to permeant or term positions however this up to the
discretion of the agency. As a PMF, I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Part 1 Gasoline Research Paper
Part One: Gasoline
1.
Gasoline is used in a wide array of appliances, for example, your car, tractors, and lawn mowers of
the like. This is a good thing because one substance that is composed of a liquid and a mix of
alkanes and cycloalkanes (5 12 carbon atoms) is that versatile. Some other advantages of gasoline
are that it is very common, making it easily accessible and more convenient for shorter periods of
time. It starts up immediately, improves the mobility of smaller generating sets, relatively lighter
and quieter in comparison to diesel generating sets and engines, they also have a longer lifespan.
However, nothing is perfect and gasoline does have its flaws.

There are many way fuel can cause environmental harm this can come in many forms, but one is
that the use of gasoline is affecting air quality by producing emissions. This is because the process
of refining the crude oil releases toxins into the atmosphere and thus causing air pollution. Burning
gasoline, starting your car and driving it creates a small controlled fire, causes the combustion
reaction to occur, producing water vapor and the infamous Carbon Dioxide which is awful for the
environment and people breathing it in. This is due to gasoline (which is cleaner than coal) it still
contributes to the production of greenhouse gases. Another thing about gasoline that causes harm to
the environment is oil spills that occur mostly when oil is lost during transportation.
There are four main things that stem off of fuel emissions, these are carbon monoxide, nitrogen
oxides, particulate matter and unburned hydrocarbons. These are formed by the fuel being burned
and released through the combustion reaction. The main components of gasoline that combust in
gasoline are isooctane, butane, 3 ethyltoluene and an octane enhancer called MTBE (methyl tert
butyl ether).

Dwight D. Eisenhower s Speech
Dwight D. Eisenhower was one of Americas most influential presidents. He ended his successful
public career with a farewell speech outlining the growth of the nation and warnings about the
future. Firstly, I will examine the effectiveness of Eisenhower s speech.
I found his speech to be well written, it held my attention and gave a clear message to protect the
future of the nation and its resources. I define a well written speech as one that can keep an
audience listening and wanting more. An effective speech must also have a clear message, and not
contradict itself. Eisenhower s speech concluded his second term as President on a good note, and
it gave the nation critical information on national defense, innovation, and the future for our
people. Eisenhower s speech gave a clear message of national pride while also giving advice on our
scientific and military future.
Now I will discuss the location and historical significance of the speeches. Eisenhower televised
his speech live from the White House. This use of technology allowed him to reach a wide
audience, some of which who would not have been able to attend his speech. The historical
significance of his speech was the long successful presidency that he was handing over to the much
younger John F. Kennedy.
Now I will examine the structure of Eisenhower s speech. His speech began with a brief
introduction thanking the broadcasting companies and giving his blessing to his successor, John F.

The Negotiation Strategy Of Intel
Negotiation Strategy
The negotiation of this deal will be driven by the expected synergies of the two companies. These
include acquiring new technologies, maximizing the utilization of Intel s factories, and gaining
market share. Intel needs to be aggressive with their offer prices because of the recent influx
mergers and acquisitions activity in the semiconductor industry. They do not have a first mover
advantage and therefore must offer a premium over Altera s current stock price valuation.
Acquisition will be done on a cash basis, with Altera shareholders receiving approximately $64 per
share. Intel will finance the acquisition with cash and new debt. Altera s current free cash flows of
$1,071,430 should cover any interest expense assumed by Intel with the acquisition of new debt.
This acquisition will result in a horizontal integration, as Intel is acquiring complementary
production outputs. In the post closing organization, Altera will become an integrated business unit
within Intel. They will retain their engineers and sales force under long term contingency plans.
This means that Altera will no longer have their own stock; only Intel stock will be offered in the
market. Furthermore, Altera will continue to manufacture their existing product line under Intel and
will work with Intel s engineers to create new innovative products.
The negotiation will highlight the benefits to Altera. First, with this acquisition, Altera will gain
exposure to manufacturing leadership.

Furthermore, there are also other notable weaknesses applicable to L Oreal. Another weakness
point is the existence of false claims in advertising. In May of 2007, L Oreal was ordered by the
Therapeutic Goods Administration of Australia to retract their claims on the wrinkle removing
capabilities of their products (Anti Aging Wrinkle Creams are a Rip Off).
Opportunities One of the areas of opportunity for L Oreal is its increased supply of ecologically
and environmentally friendly ingredients. L Oreal can increase their supply of ecologically and
environmentally friendly ingredients by furthering their Sustainability Assessment Framework and
working even more closely with current and new suppliers to address predetermined concerns (L
Oreal Corporation, n.d.). Another point of opportunity for the company is to increase its sales of its
Active Cosmetics product line. For 2006 alone, The Active Cosmetics product line of L Oreal
made up 7.5% in total revenue for the corporation. L Oreal has recognized the growth in demand
for active cosmetics, that is why the corporation has been acquiring companies in the active
cosmetics line. By increasing their marketing and product line up for active cosmetics, L Oreal
can reach a wider range of consumers (L Oreal Corporation, n.d.). A third area of opportunity for L
Oreal is that it could work on purchasing of more successful cosmetics companies.

to the NOI website, then I would find out more information on this topic. On the website, I found
a mission statement of sorts, which reads The Nation of Islam is one of the wealthiest
organizations in black America. The main purpose of the Nation of Islam is to teach the
downtrodden and defenseless Black people a thorough Knowledge of God and of themselves, and
to put them on the road to Self Independence with a superior culture and higher civilization than
they had previously experienced which, of course, explains the main purpose of the organization,
but does not explain how it is connected to Islam (NOI). If anything, the website pointed out all of
the ways in which the two religions were different, which can leave one fairly confused, as I
noticed some of my classmates were along with

Animal Farm Dialectical Journal
Journal Entry 1
Summary: In this part of the chapter, we are given a brief summary on the farm that they live on.
They live on a large farm with 6 family members who all have to help maintain the farm in
Minnesota. They have some traditions that would be odd in the eyes of others. For example, when
an animal dies they lay it on the ground to help fertilize the ground beneath it.The family members
on the farm consist of Mother, Father, Uncle David, Wayne and Eldon. The chapter starts off with
characterization explaining the roles of each family member. Eldon is only 11 so he helps
around with everyone, Wayne does the same, but he is also very gifted at baseball and hopes to
play professional, Mother cleans and cook while Uncle David and Father do the majority of the
work on the farm. Right now it is spring on the farm in Minnesota. ... Show more content on

Discussing The Intricate And Intimate Connections Between...
1. Why does Sommers discuss the intricate and intimate connections between herself, her
daughters and her parents on pages 293 295? Why does she look at her family? She says that
Love (as well as writing) involves a radical loss of certainty (295). How does that loss of
certainty apply to writing as well as relationships in Sommers experience? Because of Sommers
love for reading often alludes to her family life, she is able to introduce the reader to her family
and her thoughts behind words in a neat fashion. I assume that her family life has really shaped
her as a person. I think she wants to be be able to absorb lots of information from the world
around her. She says, I want to understand these living, breathing, primary sources all around me.
(295). This quote is important because, it shows the type of mindset Sommers is in. Her
mindset, being one that is willing to be open to new discoveries and different perspectives. She
looks at her family for inspiration from the world. She makes connections between her family
members, the things she s learned from books and other sources shaping her as a person. She
often pondered to herself when her daughter asked for typically feminine items like makeup,
thinking if there is an underlying meaning to it. As a result she states, Love (as well as writing)
involves a radical loss of certainty (295). She shows her readers this loss of certainty in her family
life, as well as in her writing throughout the whole text

An Investigation Into the Differences Between Retail and...
An investigation into the differences between retail and investment banks
Over the past decades, retail banks have remained the main commercial bank for consumers, rather
than corporations or other banks. The investment bank has become more popular amongst
individuals, corporations and governments which are interested in raising their profits. Retail banks
and investment banks have different organizational structures and activities. So they have many
differences, such as services, customers and profits. And this report aims to distinguish between the
retail bank and the investment bank in order to identify their specific service areas. Firstly, the
author will review some literature focusing on the definitions. Secondly, the author will ... Show

There are also many advantages of the investment banks which usually provide services for the
company. First of all, most of the investment banks are global company and it can provide services
more widely than the retail banks. Such as Morgan Stanley is a leading global financial services
firm providing a wide range of investment banking, securities, investment management and wealth
management It reports US$779 billion as assets under its management. Its headquarter located in
Midtown Manhattan , New York City. It has companies in 37 countries with over 1,200 offices,
employees dedicated to local businesses, government agencies, institutions and individuals. So the
investment banks can provide the services (such as trading of derivatives, fixed income
instruments, foreign exchange and commodities) all over the world. Secondly, the revenue of the
investment banks significantly more than profit of other types of banks. If you save your extra
money in the retail banks, you can only get the interest from the rates. But if you sand your money
to the investment banks you can get remarkable returns although it has a high risk. For example the
Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is an American investment bank and securities. And it provides mergers
and acquisitions advice, underwriting services, asset management, and prime brokerage to its
clients, which include corporations, governments and individuals. Amazingly, the company in US

The existing concentrate business is largely controlled by Coca Cola Company (Coca Cola) and
PepsiCo (Pepsi), together claiming a combined 72% of the U.S. carbonated soft drink (CSD)
market sales volume in 2009. Refer to Exhibit 1 for an illustration of the CSD industry value chain.
For more than a century, Coca Colaand Pepsi have maintained growth and large market shares
through mastering five competitive forces, shown in Exhibit 2, that drive profitability and shape
the industry structure.
Entry Barriers: Both Coca Cola and Pepsi have strong entry barriers for new competitors, especially

market position, many barriers exist for new entrants. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, all risk in price fluctuations in the raw materials market is transferred and paid for by
the bottling business. Supplier power of the concentrate business is also exerted over the bottling
business by the threat of acquisition and vertical integration the concentrate business supports its
bottling business through providing suggestions for operational improvement. While this support
can be viewed positively, both Coca Cola and Pepsi have acquired its bottling franchises due to
their dissatisfaction over the operational effectiveness of its bottling business. Through the last few
decades, Coca Cola and Pepsi have oscillated between acquiring and re franchising its partner
bottling businesses.
Rivalry: The rivalry between Coca Cola and Pepsi is extremely high; however, both companies
continue to remain profitable. Prior to the 1980s, pricing wars negatively affected profitability for
Coca Cola and Pepsi. After Coca Cola renegotiated its franchise bottling contract and both
companies increased concentrate prices, the rivalry began to focus on differentiation and
advertising strategies. Through creative advertising campaigns, such as the Pepsi Challenge where
Pepsi ran blind taste tests to demonstrate that consumers

The Characteristics Of Jesus Christ And The Counseling World
The world is full of counselors, therapists, psychologist, and many more mental help specialists but
what can be difficult is attempting to discover what makes a counselor great. It can be agreed upon
that some of the characteristics that make up a great counselor include, but are not limited to:
empathy, compassion, being nonjudgmental, trust, confidentiality, and commitment. These are all
traits of JesusChrist who is referred to as the Great Counselor. It has taken the mental health
industry decades to even begin to reach the place Jesus reached in His three years of ministry. By
comparing Jesus and the counselingworld one can see why Jesus is referred to as the Great
Counselor and where the counseling world does well in helping individuals but still falls short.
Throughout the Bible we hear Jesus refered to as the Great Counselor, that He is the Messiah,
the Great Healer. The Bible does not merely claim this but later shows the statements to be true
during Jesus ministry. While Jesus was alive on this earth He was criticized for who He chose to
spend time with tax collectors and sinners, the rejects of the society and although Jesus was seen as
above them He did not judge them. Instead He says to the Phariseesquestioning Him in Mark 2:13
17, Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the
righteous, but sinners (New International Version). This passage is clearly referring to salvation but

Myths on Cosmic Creation
Every person in America has a myth or conviction of truth as to how creation was formed and
human beings came into existence. The following are inclusive in creation myths, the first is the
Zulu myth found in the continent of Africa, and the other is the myth of Norse originating from
Europe. Both myths give a reason as to how creation was formed on earth. Though there are endless
amounts of ideas and vast amounts of myths to explore, the focus of these two particular myths
brings fascination to a social phenomenon.
The cycle of creation in the Zulu myth is as follows in the in text citation ( Zulu Creation ,
2011): Darkness was in the beginning accompanied by a large seed. The seed fell from heaven
and the seed produced reeds that grew called Uthlanga. One seed in particular grew into a man
and his named Unkulunkulu. He grew so large and heavy that he broke off and fell to earth. As he
fell, he walked earth with a purpose to grow other seeds into male and female. Outside of humans,
Unkulunkulu created animals, mountains, lakes, and the sun and moon. He taught female and
male how to survive by imparting agriculture to grow things, how to hunt, and make fire.
Unkulunkulu sent a chameleon into the world with the message that his people will live forever.
As this animal took too long, his impatience grew and a lizard sent out a message of death
completing the circle of birth to death.
The introduction of creation in the Norse myth is as follows from the in text citation

A whistle pierced the air as the police made their way rapidly through the crowd. Two thickset men

Narcissistic Personality Inventory
Narcissism is a trait described as having feelings of self love and self admiration, a general
defensive orientation, and a constellation of attitudes that characterize a person s relationships with
others such as feelings of entitlement involving the expectation of special privileges over others,
special exemptions from normal social demands, suspiciousness, and jealousy (Raskin Terry, 1988,
p. 890). The Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) is the measure most commonly used to assess
these traits of narcissismin one s personality. When taking this measure I scored a 5, where the
average score is 15.3, a low score is considered one close to 8.5, and an extremely low score is a 2

Blincoe, Dewall, Gilbert, Haak, Keller and Widiger (2014) conducted a study to examine the
affiliation between narcissism and conflict behaviors within a romantic dyad in order to explain
four hypotheses: individual narcissism will be associated with partner narcissism, greater
narcissism will be related to self conflict behaviors, greater narcissism will be related to partners
negative conflict behaviors, and male and female narcissism will interact (Keller et al., 2014, p.
34 39). This study was conducted by collecting data from 190 college student couples where
measures of narcissism, level of conflict in their relationship, and depressive symptoms to use as a
control variable for results, were taken. Subsets of couples were then asked to participate in a
competitive reaction time task to behaviorally assess aggressive tendencies towards their partner
during conflict. It was found that the four hypotheses had supporting data that agreed with each;
the first being that there is significant relation of narcissistic traits between males and females in a
relationship, which could be due to the tendency to choose partners that have similar qualities and
beliefs as you. The second being that narcissism is directly related to a person s negative behavior
within a relationship, the third that narcissists are more likely to be victimized by their

The Real Housewives Of Britain Essay
The Real Housewives of Britain
Coventry Patmore s The Angel in the House of 1854 depicts the quintessential role of The Angel
through a husband s standpoint, during Queen Victoria s reign in the 19th Century. The Angel was
an idealization of a role given to the middle and upper class housewife of Great Britain during the
Victorian era. The Angel served her family and household, who would grow submissive to her
husband while remaining innocent about the realities of the outside world. These women where
glorified to a level of perfection in her home and praised the values of maternal conduct, the
reason she was given the name Angel . Patmore designed this godly figure resulting from his
estranged fifteen year marriage with wife Emily August Andrews. The Angel in the House ,
written through Patmore s point of view, allows the reader to take a stance in hopes of siding
with Patmore and the women s true role to benefit the man. Coventry Patmore is saying The
Angel , an extreme version of today s trophy wife, realistically is nothing without the male on her
side. She has a duty to be perfect that allows the husband to expand in his ventures without getting
in his way. The Angel in the House unwraps from a love story into a depth of the harsh reality of
women in this time. It also allows for the reader to identify with Patmore on this issue.
The Angel in the House is a phrase fabricated by Coventry Patmore, a Victorian poet of the 19th
century. The Angel name is perhaps

In the eighteenth century, Gothic story was an extremely popular form of literature, and it has been
a major genre since then. The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and A Rose for Emily
by William Faulkner are both Gothic horror stories consisting madness and suspense. The Gothic
horror story carries particular conventions in its setting, theme, point of view, and characterisation.
Both Gilman and Faulkner follow the conventions of the Gothic horror story to create feelings of
gloom, mystery, and suspense that are essential for compelling stories. Goth is a term that

Setting in the Gothic horror story is important as it creates tone and atmosphere in the story. One
of the conventional settings in the Gothic horror story is often in a remote locale with an
isolated architecture. Gilman follows the conventions of the Gothic story by setting up the scene
as the narrator of The Yellow Wallpaper describes the house and feels its ground has fallen into a
slight state of disrepair. There were greenhouses, too, but they are all broken now. There was
some legal trouble, I believe, something about the heirs and co heirs; anyhow, the place has been
empty for years. The spoils my ghostliness, I am afraid, but I don t care #65293;there is something
strange about the house #65293;I can feel it (Gilman 76). The narrator also complains about the
room that she lives in, especially the yellow wallpaper. She mentions about the wallpaper several
times, saying that when you follow the lame uncertain curves for a little distance they suddenly
commit suicide #65293;plunge off at outrageous angels, destroy themselves in unheard of
contradictions (Gilman 77). Gilman creates the setting that is superficially tranquility but actually a
place of confinement. In The rose for Emily, Faulkner uses a big, giant house to have the Grierson
family isolated from other town people. A Rose for Emily is set in Faulkner s mythical country,
Yoknapatawpha, Mississippi. The narrator describes the house

Car Vs Driving A Car
What do you think was easier to learn, to ride a bike or to drive a car? I feel both are pretty easy
to drive once you overcome the fears you have and fix the things that you struggle with. There s
a lot that goes into both a bike and a car, but some things more than others. A bike and a car are
both great ways to get around, but balance, road sense, safety and responsibility differ between
the two. To start off, a bike requires more balance. Bikes have two wheels so it s much harder to
stay up. When you first learn to ride a bike without training wheels, you have to learn how to stay
up on it first. Once you start to gain balance and are able to stay up, then you able to ride your
bike. Another thing is that it s easier to get hurt. A bike doesn t have outside protection so if you
fall or have an encounter with a car, you would get majorly hurt. Unlike a bike, a car had four
tires rather than two. So it s easier for a car to stay up since there s tires evenly supporting it. It s
one less thing to worry about when riding a bike than it is to drive a car because there s not the
first step in trying to learn how to balance when driving a car. Another thing that is different is
road sense. When riding a bike, people usually stay off to the side of the road while also being
cautious of the cars around you. Some places have a small section labeled for bikes to be ritten
and others do not, so some cyclists ride more into the street with cars. Bikes don t have blinkers
and signals

Water Hardness Of Salt Concentration Essay
Introduction The key to life is water. The only known planet to have stable bodies of water to
support life is Earth.1 All water however, is not pure H2O. Water often times has other compounds
and chemicals mixed with it including salts. Over time plants and animals have adapted to how
much salt it can consume and survive.1 These lifeforms that adapted to low salt concentrations live
in freshwater habitats. Freshwater typically has a salt concentration of less than 1%.2 Although
sometimes low, the salts that are most commonly found in water are formed with the cations Ca2+
and Mg2+.3Water hardness is a measure of the concentration of calciumand/or magnesium ions in
water.3 Water becomes hard as it drains through limestone, dolomite and other minerals. A high
concentration of these ions results in a hard watersample, while a low concentration is soft.4 Water
hardness is important in that it can cause many problems. The equation below shows how calcium
can create problems.
Calcium bicarbonate в†’ Calcium carbonate + Water + Carbon dioxide
Ca(HCO3)2 в†’ CaCO3 + H2O + CO2 3
Calcium carbonate, also known as scale,is sometimes referred to as one of the banes of industry 4.
The formation of scale blocks pipes and tubes4 and is the culprit behind the hated bathtub rings.3 To
fix these problems, it is important to understand water hardness. Water hardness can be determined
in many ways. EDTA titrations and atomic absorbance spectroscopy (AA) are the most

Theories Of Asset Pricing Behaviour
Introduction The Efficient Markets theory has been a source of much controversy within both the
academic and financial worlds. Eugene Fama first defined an efficient market as a market where,
given the available information, actual prices...represent very good estimates of intrinsic values
(1965, p.90). After Harry Roberts (1967) formed the Efficient Market Hypothesis(EMH) , Fama
then went on to publish results that concluded the stock markets are efficient. Thus it is impossible
to achieve consistent abnormal returns. However, investors daily are seeking to defy the EMH and
therefore the hypothesis is under constant audit 252 days a year. Let me firstly clarify what is
meant by anomalies in the market, Anomalies within the market are empirical results that are
inconsistent with current theories of asset pricing behaviour ( G.William Schwert). Anomalies
represent inefficiency in the market ( i.e. Arbitrage opportunities) or issues with the underlying
asset pricing model. Scholars have documented many effects that have generated anomalies:
Weekend Effect, January effect, Size Effect, momentum and contrarian effect. However once these
effects have been reported and analysed, the anomalies seem to disappear or attenuate. As a result, it
is not terribly shocking to see that numerous anomaly generating effects have been brought to the
spotlight in recent years, undermining the proposition of the EMH. Even before the EMH was
proposed, Wachtel( 1942) published findings

The Influence Of Family Sitcoms In The 1970 s
The family sitcom has always been a form of entertainment that has brought people together, and
has played a pivotal role in American society. Family values often change over time to reflect the
issues being faced by each family member generationally. Media and entertainment are often
affected by the social and political issues of their time. Many of these issues, and the way that these
issues have shaped American values, have often influenced the content of television sitcoms.
Although familysitcoms often reflect the values of real American families, in the 1970s, many
television families had very few flaws, as opposed to the real families of the 1970s. Meanwhile,
television families more accurately represented real families in the 1980s.... Show more content on

Before the seventies, family values were more conservative and traditional with the
popularization of the nuclear family in the fifties and sixties. The nuclear family was ...built
around the nucleus of the mother and father... (Stanley, 2012). This changed in the 1970s due to
the economic and social struggle inflicted by the Cold War and Vietnam (Stanley, 2012). Family
size began to go down because people could not afford big families anymore. This trend
continued into the eighties when, ...the average family size dropped from 3.58 people in 1970
to 3.29 people in 1980... (Suro, 1991). Because of financial struggle, family size was less of a
priority for the average family. Another change in the 1980s was that marriage was not valued as
much as it was in previous years. When a group of high school seniors were surveyed, there was

How is the battle between good and evil presented in The Woman in Black?
The Woman in Black italics is a gothic novel and move that was written by Susan Hill and directed
by James Watkins. The movie had different ways of showing the Good versus Evil throughout the
movie. Arthur Kipps, the main character, goes through the most changes through the movie in
emotionally and mentally. Arthur Kipps is a young man who believes that there are no such things
as ghosts.
In the movie the evil was shown when Arthur was in the train going to the village called Crythhin
Gifford. He puts his head against the window and a dark cloud comes up, the weather conditions
through the movie are dreary, with dark colours and dim lighting. This shows the audience that ...

Disadvantages Of Masticating Juicers
Masticating juicers are good for juicing vegetables because their masticating action is efficient at
breaking down the vegetable cell walls which tend to be tougher than their fruit counterparts.
Masticating juicers are very capable at juicing most fruits and vegetables, and they will also extract
juice from wheatgrass, spinach, and other leafy greens and herbs.
Juicer
Juicers help you to get a sufficient intake of nutrients and vitamins from both fruits and vegetables
because they are concentrated in the juice produced. Juicers are a useful tool that can help you
lose weight and become healthier on a day to day basis, because they allow you to make smoothies
and juices at home. Juicers are machines that extract fresh juice from vegetables ... Show more

Masticating juicer doesn t use blades and doesn t need high speed to extract juice from the fruits
and vegetables. Masticating juicers are also more versatile than centrifugal juicers because, in
addition to extracting juices, these juicers also homogenize foods to make baby foods, pates,
sauces, nut butters, banana ice creams and fruit sorbets. Masticating juicers are better at
preserving nutrients as they turn slowly and squash the juice out of your fresh produce, this is
what we recommend as it s better for you, but bear in mind the juice will be live ie somewhat
bitty, so your kids may not dig it. Masticating juicers work at lower speeds and are therefore
more adept at juicing a wider range of fruit and vegetables than centrifugal juicers. Masticating
juicers work well for all fruits and vegetables, including wheatgrass and leafy greens. Masticating
juicers are less common, tend to be more expensive, better made and last a lot longer.
Vegetables
Vegetables on the other hand have fibrous, tough cell walls, requiring more aggressive mechanical
juicing action than fruit. Masticating juicers are good for juicing vegetables because their
masticating action is efficient at breaking down the vegetable cell walls which tend to be tougher
than their fruit counterparts.

Mythology and Archetypes in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird
Of all the various approaches to criticism, the Mythological/Archetypal achieves the greatest
impact over the entire literary scope, because the themes and patterns unearthed apply universally
to all works, yielding results that can be applied to a great many texts. This is because the very
nature of the Mythological/Archetypal approach is the exploration of the canon for widespread
and pervading symbols, plots, and characters. These are all greatly extant in Harper Lee s classic
novel To Kill a Mockingbird, an extraordinary examination of the Depression era South through the
eyes of a young girl with rare intelligence and insight, living in a small town ... Show more content

Through Tom, the legal and social rights of the entire community are called into question. Tom s
injury, therefore, represents the injury of all the people he epitomizes.
These symbols can be illustrated many places elsewhere in the literary canon. For example, the
archetypal character of the crippled man symbolizing a crippled society can be perceived in the
character of Benjy Compton in William Faulkner s tremendously symbolic novel The Sound and
the Fury; Benjy, who is severely mentally challenged, has no concept of time and is preyed upon
by vulturous members of his world, including his black care giver and his older brother Jason.
Benjy represents Faulkner s conception of the decaying Southern gentility; that the sense of time
is skewed (with its emphasis on the conservative old ways and the antebellum morality, the
South, like Benjy, is living in a mixed world of past and present which is largely responsible for its
failure and decline) and that its fate is beyond its control. Harper Lee s use of Tom Robinsonis very
similar: the arm, destroyed by a cotton gin (possibly symbolizing the damaging mechanization of
modern society), represents the black communities lack of power and strength; however, all is not
negative: Tom has a

Many of the biggest startups of our time were started by a group of people rather than a single

world ends right there. Soon after, I went on the internet and searched up if the Earth is flat and the
overwhelming answer surprised me. Other than a few websites such as The Flat Earth Society
wiki which gave many outlandish explanation for their point of view, most of the websites
revealed to me that contrary to my belief , the Earth was not actually flat, but rather round. Even
still, I was not convinced as I still believed that everything should be sliding if the Earth was round.
However, after researching more about this topic, I learning about how friction is the reason why
everything stays in place, and thus, I finally understood why everyone thought the Earth was round.

Should 16 And 17-Year Olds Be Allowed To Vote Analysis
In her article, Takoma Park 16 year old savors his history making moment at the poll, Annys Shin
explains into debt of the issue of whether or not 16 and 17 year old citizens should be allowed to
vote. I believe that 16 and 17 year olds should be allowed to vote because they are affected by many
of the political issues that are being debated on today. Takoma Park City Council voted to lower the
legal votingage to 16 for its residents and the majority voted in favor of it.The reason was to
increase voter turnout in the polls and I think was a great way to do that. Shin quotes Rob
Ritchie, director of the national reform organization FairVote and a Takoma Park resident, when
she writes, Eighteen year olds, it turns out, are not a very good first voting age group, Richie said,
because many of them are in the midst of leaving their childhood homes. This is very true because...

politically active homes and are thus likely to amplify the power of an already well represented

election is a prime example. Many of my friends have their own opinions on issues and other
topics which largely disagrees with what their parents believe. For example, myself included,
many of our parents are pro life and disagree with the legalization of gay marriage, while many of
us are pro choice and support the LGBTQ+ community. This led to many parents voting for
Trump, as he has the same political opinions as them in those topics. None of us could vote for

Sherman Alexie s Ten Little Indians
Sherman Alexie s writing contains irony and dark humor in order to draw attention to the ongoing
issues Native Americans face. Throughout Ten Little Indians, Sherman Alexie illustrates the
journeys of modern day Spokane Indians and the struggles they face while trying to find their true
identity. The struggles include the stereotype of a Spokane Indian and pursuing a life outside of the
reservation. Corliss, the main character of the chapter, believes in the nonconformity of people,
fighting against social expectations, and not following stereotypes. This feeling of nonconformity
is heavily present throughout this chapter, especially when Corliss is talking about herself. Fight
your stereotypes! she exclaims when she notices how easy it... Show more content on

The Search Engine is a pun and engine is a play on words of the racial slur injun which proves
that the title symbolizes Corliss determination and passion. She is a searching injun trying to find
where she belongs whether it be in her Native American society or in the world outside of her
reservation. Corliss has always known that Indians were obsessed with authenticity. Colonized,
genocided, exiled, Indians formed their identities by questioning the identities of other Indians,
(Alexie 40). Corliss is authentic in her own way because she chooses to pursue a different life
than what is expected of her from her family. She is much more determined to find a life that fits
her and brings her pure joy. Also, it s ironic that Harlan Atwater poses as a Spokane Indian. He
writes about the poor living conditions on an Indian reservation, but in reality he has no connection
to the Spokane reservation. Being raised by a white family eliminates Harlan s authenticity as a
Native American writer, thus making him an outsider in Spokane society. Harlan also relates to
the title of the chapter. He has been searching for his identity as either a Spokane Indian or as a
white male. He wants to know the feeling of being an Indian who lived on a reservation which
made him create this fake Spokane Indian character. After his book fails, he decides to accept his

Underground Railroad Thesis
Underground Railroad The Underground Railroad was not only a passage to freedom but also
to equality. As a slowly established organization in the early 1800s, it impacted the lives of
many people especially slaves (History.net). Many slaves found freedom through the secret
passages of the Underground Railroad with the raging fear of being caught. The Underground
Railroad is a secret passage to the North slowing leading slaves to freedom. This passage to
freedom was an opportunity that shall not be missed. As a matter of fact it was one of the best
historical events that occurred during the Civil War times. The commencement of the
Underground Railroad was very secretive yet successful. This organization was neither a railroad
or underground. It was a number of houses, barns, and hidden rooms where slaves could hide.
This whole project was based off of a strong belief of slavery being bad and injustice. After
everyone thinking that this railroad underground was real, people made code names. A conductor
would be code for people who helped transport the slaves. Harriet Tubman was one of the best...

other whites. Although this never stopped the expansion of the number of slaves rapidly running

For some reason, throughout my life I was blessed with people who told me positive things, and
I believed them (11). I can relate to George because he too had many people around him telling
him positive things. Growing up is hard to do, and where you live has a lot to do with who you
might become.
My hometown was diminutive and old fashioned. I lived in the country, and living in an urban area
is contradictory to that of a city. Sam, on of the authors of The Pact, tells how the city is different
from the country by saying, [t]he sounds of gunshots and screeching cars late at night and before
dawn were as familiar to us as the chirping insects must be to people who live in the country (32).
I am able to connect deeply to this quote because I am very familiar to the chirping insects that
Sam makes similar to his own experience.
While Sam, George, and Rameck were growing up, they were able to witness acts of violence at
a first hand glance. Sam, George and Rameck had no choice but to accept this, and because of
these experiences they gained knowledge, but not the same knowledge as me. I lived in the
suburbs and the land was open and free. I wasn t a hunter or a nature enthusiast, I simply enjoyed
the scenery. Since I wasn t surrounded immediately by violence in my neighborhood, I was able to
go outside and have fun without worrying about being witness to a gunfight and dying from getting
accidentally shot. Unlike the author s of The Pact, I wasn t living

The infected are trapped by strategically placed trucks that are blocking their path. Only one at a
time would be able to squeeze through, not enough to create an actual threat. Rick is creating a

walkers to travel.
I guess this discovery determines how Alexandria has stayed in tact for so long. But the bigger
problem is, how are they going to get rid of these walkers so they don t become a larger threat.
This is where the episode kind of lost me...Ricks plan is to basically lead the infected 20 miles
away. Doesn t this seem a bit ridiculous? Why couldn t they set them on fire? Or at least come up
with a different plan. I find it hard to believe they couldn t think of something other than this
complicated and insane idea to lead infected away with noise and using Daryl as bait. I understand
that it makes things interesting but it just seemed like such a stretch to me.
Another grievence I had with this episode is the character, Carter. We meet him and he is
obviously very apprehensive towards Rick. He even tries to create a plan to kill Rick before he
gets anyone killed. Eugene overhears this plan and almost gets shot but Rick comes into the house

The UK coaching framework was revised in 2012/2013 and a more concise document based
around Excellent Coaching Every Time for Everyone which provided a focus on four main key
objectives, these were:
More appropriately qualified and skilled coaches
A more diverse workforce
A culture of self improvement
A better supported workforce.
This report will discuss the current status of coach education and coach learning in the UK. These
findings will then be used to identify and recommend to the management board of Sports Coach
UK and the Minister for sport where the investments from the central Governments for coach
education and development should be placed.

participation of young people in sport, community involvement and social responsibility and that
the health in Britain has gone down. Sports Coach UK (2008) agreed that it was in need of

Everything Stuck To Him By Raymond Carver Analysis
Everything Stuck to Him , by Raymond Carver, is an enthralling piece of literature that
eloquently depicts a short frame story centered on a nuclear family of three. The frame story
progressively shifts from a woman in Milan asking her father to tell her more about her childhood
to another story that the father narrates about a young boy with a wife and a baby. Carver does an
excellent job astutely using a minimalist style, word choice, and symbolism to enhance and develop
his narrative, Everything Stuck to Him . Compared to the extravagant and enigmatic writing style
that a lot of authors prefer, Carver chooses to employ a minimalist style in Everything Stuck to Him
, which means his sentences are devoid of elaborate details, explanations,... Show more content on

Aforementioned, Carver is a minimalist writer, so his diction is rather intelligible on a
denotative level. To go along with his style, Carver leaves out quite a few key components in his
diction, forcing the reader to, once again, make their own interpretations about the frame story.
Throughout the story, Carver never names the characters, which some may think is because of
the characters ongoing struggle to find their identities, while others may interpret this as a
concept that makes the story more relatable since the reader is able to identify more with the
character. Carver also uses the words girl and boy to describe the subjects of his frame story
instead of woman and man , which could be his way of emphasizing the immaturity and
inexperience of the young couple. Additionally, Carvers utilizes diction to casually imply that the
girl, or the woman s mother, is no longer around in the present, while not directly stating this. In
his frame story, Everything Stuck to Him , Carver uses precise word choice to enhance his
narrative by leaving out specific details that forces the readers to draw their own conclusions,
adding to the minimalistic aspect of the

Analysis Of Dow Quimica Argentina Is Considering Making A...
1.Background and Decision Issues Dow QuГmica Argentina is considering making a bid to
PetroquГmica Bahia Blanca S.A. (PBB) because it was being privatized by the government of
Argentina. PBB, which is located in Bahia Blance, is a major producer of both ethylene and
polyethylene in Argentina. Dow sees this as a very big opportunity for the company to expand its
market, utilize its resources and invest on a company that will eventually become the leading
polyethylene player in Latin America. Dow s vice president of business development for Latin
America, Oscar Vignart, and Luis Marcer, CFO of Dow QuГmica Argentinaare building the

country s risk; current political and economic conditions of Argentina, exchange rate stabilities,
freedom of capital repatriation and the uncertainties of the project so they can justify it to the
parent company. They had developed a three stage operational strategy for their future
polyethylene expansion in Argentina. The first stage is the acquisition of the PBB; the second
stage is the acquisition of Polisur s two polyethylene plants and the last stage is building a new
ethylene cracker and a polyethylene plant. In order to help them decide, the cash flows from each
stage of this big project have been valued using the discounted cash flowapproach. They used a

The Chicano Movement, A Civil Rights Movement
The Chicano movement, also known as El Movimiento, was a civil rights movement that began in
the 1960s with a primary objective of attaining empowerment and self determination as well as
rejecting and confronting the history of racism, discrimination and disenfranchisement of the
Mexican American community and was much more militant than movements prior to it. Some
issues the Chicano movement dealt with were farm workers rights, political rights, better education
and restoration of land grants. Additionally, the movement sought to gain social equality and
economic opportunity. The movement strove to tackle the stereotype the media and America
synonymized with Mexicans. The Chicano movement was influenced by progress made in
movements such as the Black Power Movement, antiwar movement and various others. Those who
grew up before the start of the Chicano movement believed that assimilating into the American
lifestyle and adopting their values, ideals and believing in their education and politics would help
them become more white. The Mexican Americancommunity faced segregation in all parts of life.
Chicano was used as a derogatory term towards Mexican Americans before the Chicano movement
in the 1960s. Organizations formed in the early 1900s, such as the League of United Latin
American Citizens (LULAC), sought to end discrimination and segregation against Latinos. The
Chicano Movement did not start at one exact moment because of one action, but rather it grew over
time

  • 3. Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven Essay An Analysis of Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven Death. A strong topic, frequently but solemnly discussed. However, when I read Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven , I was immediately captivated by the new angle brought to my attention regarding death. While the topic of death is usually associated with either sympathy or horror, Poe succeeded in portraying a feeling caught between the two; and at the same time bringing forth new feelings I would never thought to consider regarding death. These feelings reflect a sorrow so deep into a psychological madness, a feeling that the pain death brings has ruined one forever. After analyzing this poem I came to the conclusion that Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven demonstrates that the sorrow the death of a loved one brings will stay with you forever. Poe communicated this theme through abstract language , tone, and allusion. The opening lines of The Raven identify the speaker as someone who feels tired and weak but is still awake in the middle of a gloomy night. He passes the time by reading a strange book of ancient knowledge. The first line of the poem contains alliteration of w in while, weak, and weary to produce the effect of unsteadiness. This line also sets the poem s rhythmical pattern and provides the first example of the use of internal rhyme in dreary and weary. The speaker tells of becoming more tired and beginning to doze but being wakened by a sound that he assumes is a quiet knock. Internal rhymes of napping, tapping, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Under the Black Umbrella and Japanese Colonization of Korea The Japanese occupied Korea in 1910 after many years of struggle between different countries. Throughout the centuries there were multiple events that lead to this colonization. The events became disordered in 1864, when King Kojong ascended to the throne. He was too young, so his father Taewon gun became the de facto ruler. His goals were to re establish the power of the government, develop a policy of national exclusionism and continue to persecute the Catholics. During his rule, western men came in search of trade, but the Taewon gun refused them. Japan repeatedly made attempts to establish political relations with Koreabut they continually refused. In return the Japanese declared war on Korea. Meanwhile, the Taewon gun felt as if he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He says It was disgusting, I almost threw up. But when you are so hungry, what can you do? We just ate the rest of the soup, (62). These farmers were slaves to the Japanese and were not getting repaid. They were desperate to eat. On the other hand, there were also positive impacts. If the Japanese did not take control over Korea, then the Korean economy would have bankrupted without such financial aid from Japan. In order for them to get out of their financial trouble the Japanese helped Korea progress in agriculture, energy, transportation, communications systems, and commercial distribution. The transformation process allowed Koreans to acquire more jobs and perform other jobs more efficiently. The country was modernized with new roads, railroads, cable lines and new schools. In the beginning, modernization was not much of a positive idea. In the story of Kim Sangsun, he discussed how he wanted to be a truck driver, but it was impossible for civilians to run their own truck driving business. He stated this because, Japan had started the war with China and had taken all of the available trucks to the front, (68). As the economy grew civilians were forced away from their small farms to work in factories. Mainly the building of new transportation and industry was designed to exploit Korean resources for the benefit of Japan. Since this was mainly not beneficial to Koreans, this was a negative ... • 6. Essay Sherman Alexie Sherman Alexie The odds were against Sherman Alexie on that day in October 1966. Not only was he born a minority, but he was also hydrocephalic. At the age of 6 months, he had a brain operation, but was not expected to live. Though he pulled through, doctors predicted he would be severely mentally retarded. Fortunately, they were wrong, but he did suffer through seizures and wet his bed throughout his childhood ( What 1). Rather than being called Native American, which he feels is a guilty white liberal term, he prefers to be called Indian. He is a Spokane/Coeur d Alene Indian, in fact, and grew up on the Spokane Indian Reservation in Wellpinit, Washington. To avoid being picked on by the other reservation kids, he spent most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of Alexie s writing reflects life on the reservations today. The poverty, oppression, commodity food, and alcoholism are the main themes in his stories. The title story of his collection The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven, however, deals with the life of an Indian man who has left the reservation to live in Seattle and some of the obstacles he faces in the white world. We never know the main character s name, probably because he feels like a nameless nobody in this strange world. He is alienated and told that he doesn t belong even though he is the true aborigine. When a policeman pulls him over one night and asks him where are you supposed to be? (182), he clearly shows his alienation by thinking, I knew there were plenty of places I wanted to be, but none where I was supposed to be (182). He realizes he is making people nervous (183) because he doesn t fit the profile of the neighborhood (183) in which he is driving. But it isn t just that neighborhood, or any other nice neighborhood. He wants to tell the policeman that he doesn t fit the profile of the country, but he knows it would just get [him] in trouble (183). Racism also plays a role in his frustrations. The rand is a parallel currency that was exclusively used for nonresident capital movements during the 1980s and 1990s. The financial rand was available to foreigners for investment only in South Africa was formulated by the sale of nonresidents assets in the country (Country Data, 1996). The two tiered currency system insulated the country s foreign reserves from politically stimulated capital flight, because all divestment by nonresidents were automatically met by new investment, and the price of the financial rand varied independently of the commercial rand (Country Data, 1996). Ultimately, South Africa s economic growth depends upon increasing gold profits and foreign investments. The Cuban Pesos (CUP) is the official currency in Cuba. The American dollar is not accepted on government business in Cuba since November 2004. All of the stores that sold goods in American currency changed to the Cuban Convertible Pesos (CUC). The purpose of the Presidential Management Fellowship is to recruit candidates for jobs that are traditionally harder to fill and provide them with the training needed to become a leader in that role. Although the agency would have to pay a $7,000 fee and also fund 160 hours of training within the 2 years of the fellowship, this is an opportunity for the agency to recruit qualified staff at a fraction of the cost. Regular positions are often converted into PMF positions to fill agencies needs by the designated Human resources Manger. For example, you are trying to fill the position we discussed at the GS 12/13 level but it may be difficult to recruit someone who is highly qualified. You could hire a PMF with experience like mine at a GS 9/11 level and train them for the position. At the end of the first year of this two year fellowship, if I receive favorable scores on my performance review, I move up to a GS 11/12. This is a good thing because one substance that is composed of a liquid and a mix of alkanes and cycloalkanes (5 12 carbon atoms) is that versatile. Some other advantages of gasoline are that it is very common, making it easily accessible and more convenient for shorter periods of time. There are many way fuel can cause environmental harm this can come in many forms, but one is that the use of gasoline is affecting air quality by producing emissions. This is because the process of refining the crude oil releases toxins into the atmosphere and thus causing air pollution. Burning gasoline, starting your car and driving it creates a small controlled fire, causes the combustion reaction to occur, producing water vapor and the infamous Carbon Dioxide which is awful for the environment and people breathing it in. This is due to gasoline (which is cleaner than coal) it still contributes to the production of greenhouse gases. Another thing about gasoline that causes harm to the environment is oil spills that occur mostly when oil is lost during transportation. There are four main things that stem off of fuel emissions, these are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter and unburned hydrocarbons. These are formed by the fuel being burned and released through the combustion reaction. He ended his successful public career with a farewell speech outlining the growth of the nation and warnings about the future. Firstly, I will examine the effectiveness of Eisenhower s speech. I found his speech to be well written, it held my attention and gave a clear message to protect the future of the nation and its resources. I define a well written speech as one that can keep an audience listening and wanting more. An effective speech must also have a clear message, and not contradict itself. Eisenhower s speech concluded his second term as President on a good note, and it gave the nation critical information on national defense, innovation, and the future for our people. The corporation has made sure that all their employees have opportunities to develop themselves both personally and professionally. Another weakness point is the existence of false claims in advertising. In May of 2007, L Oreal was ordered by the Therapeutic Goods Administration of Australia to retract their claims on the wrinkle removing capabilities of their products (Anti Aging Wrinkle Creams are a Rip Off). Opportunities One of the areas of opportunity for L Oreal is its increased supply of ecologically and environmentally friendly ingredients. L Oreal can increase their supply of ecologically and environmentally friendly ingredients by furthering their Sustainability Assessment Framework and working even more closely with current and new suppliers to address predetermined concerns (L Oreal Corporation, n.d.). Another point of opportunity for the company is to increase its sales of its Active Cosmetics product line. For 2006 alone, The Active Cosmetics product line of L Oreal made up 7.5% in total revenue for the corporation. L Oreal has recognized the growth in demand for active cosmetics, that is why the corporation has been acquiring companies in the active cosmetics line. By increasing their marketing and product line up for active cosmetics, L Oreal can reach a wider range of consumers (L Oreal Corporation, n.d.). Louis Farrakhan Nation Of Islam The Nation of Islam is a subsection of the Islamic religion which aims to enlighten and engage Black Americans, in hopes of freeing them from the oppression of their white counterparts. Though the NOI make efforts to uplift Black people and teach respect for all people, it is often contemplated whether or not the organization has pure intentions at its core. This can be due to the fact that there have been leaders of the organization that teach ideologies that are those of hate, which goes against what the NOI teaches as a whole. Why does Sommers discuss the intricate and intimate connections between herself, her daughters and her parents on pages 293 295? Why does she look at her family? Because of Sommers love for reading often alludes to her family life, she is able to introduce the reader to her family and her thoughts behind words in a neat fashion. I assume that her family life has really shaped her as a person. I think she wants to be be able to absorb lots of information from the world around her. The following are inclusive in creation myths, the first is the Zulu myth found in the continent of Africa, and the other is the myth of Norse originating from Europe. Both myths give a reason as to how creation was formed on earth. Though there are endless amounts of ideas and vast amounts of myths to explore, the focus of these two particular myths brings fascination to a social phenomenon. The cycle of creation in the Zulu myth is as follows in the in text citation ( Zulu Creation , 2011): Darkness was in the beginning accompanied by a large seed. The seed fell from heaven and the seed produced reeds that grew called Uthlanga. One seed in particular grew into a man and his named Unkulunkulu. He grew so large and heavy that he broke off and fell to earth. As he fell, he walked earth with a purpose to grow other seeds into male and female. Outside of humans, Unkulunkulu created animals, mountains, lakes, and the sun and moon. He taught female and male how to survive by imparting agriculture to grow things, how to hunt, and make fire. Unkulunkulu sent a chameleon into the world with the message that his people will live forever. Subsets of couples were then asked to participate in a competitive reaction time task to behaviorally assess aggressive tendencies towards their partner during conflict. It was found that the four hypotheses had supporting data that agreed with each; the first being that there is significant relation of narcissistic traits between males and females in a relationship, which could be due to the tendency to choose partners that have similar qualities and beliefs as you. The Real Housewives Of Britain Essay The Real Housewives of Britain Coventry Patmore s The Angel in the House of 1854 depicts the quintessential role of The Angel through a husband s standpoint, during Queen Victoria s reign in the 19th Century. The Angel was an idealization of a role given to the middle and upper class housewife of Great Britain during the Victorian era. The Angel served her family and household, who would grow submissive to her husband while remaining innocent about the realities of the outside world. These women where glorified to a level of perfection in her home and praised the values of maternal conduct, the reason she was given the name Angel . • 37. Car Vs Driving A Car What do you think was easier to learn, to ride a bike or to drive a car? I feel both are pretty easy to drive once you overcome the fears you have and fix the things that you struggle with. There s a lot that goes into both a bike and a car, but some things more than others. A bike and a car are both great ways to get around, but balance, road sense, safety and responsibility differ between the two. To start off, a bike requires more balance. Bikes have two wheels so it s much harder to stay up. When you first learn to ride a bike without training wheels, you have to learn how to stay up on it first. Once you start to gain balance and are able to stay up, then you able to ride your bike. Another thing is that it s easier to get hurt. A bike doesn t have outside protection so if you fall or have an encounter with a car, you would get majorly hurt. Unlike a bike, a car had four tires rather than two. So it s easier for a car to stay up since there s tires evenly supporting it. It s one less thing to worry about when riding a bike than it is to drive a car because there s not the first step in trying to learn how to balance when driving a car. Another thing that is different is road sense. When riding a bike, people usually stay off to the side of the road while also being cautious of the cars around you. Some places have a small section labeled for bikes to be ritten and others do not, so some cyclists ride more into the street with cars. Bikes don t have blinkers and signals ... The only known planet to have stable bodies of water to support life is Earth.1 All water however, is not pure H2O. Water often times has other compounds and chemicals mixed with it including salts. Over time plants and animals have adapted to how much salt it can consume and survive.1 These lifeforms that adapted to low salt concentrations live in freshwater habitats. Freshwater typically has a salt concentration of less than 1%.2 Although sometimes low, the salts that are most commonly found in water are formed with the cations Ca2+ and Mg2+.3Water hardness is a measure of the concentration of calciumand/or magnesium ions in water.3 Water becomes hard as it drains through limestone, dolomite and other minerals. A high concentration of these ions results in a hard watersample, while a low concentration is soft.4 Water hardness is important in that it can cause many problems. Eugene Fama first defined an efficient market as a market where, given the available information, actual prices...represent very good estimates of intrinsic values (1965, p.90). After Harry Roberts (1967) formed the Efficient Market Hypothesis(EMH) , Fama then went on to publish results that concluded the stock markets are efficient. Thus it is impossible to achieve consistent abnormal returns. However, investors daily are seeking to defy the EMH and therefore the hypothesis is under constant audit 252 days a year. Let me firstly clarify what is meant by anomalies in the market, Anomalies within the market are empirical results that are inconsistent with current theories of asset pricing behaviour ( G.William Schwert). Anomalies represent inefficiency in the market ( i.e. Arbitrage opportunities) or issues with the underlying asset pricing model. Scholars have documented many effects that have generated anomalies: Weekend Effect, January effect, Size Effect, momentum and contrarian effect. However once these effects have been reported and analysed, the anomalies seem to disappear or attenuate. As a result, it is not terribly shocking to see that numerous anomaly generating effects have been brought to the spotlight in recent years, undermining the proposition of the EMH. Even before the EMH was proposed, Wachtel( 1942) published findings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Influence Of Family Sitcoms In The 1970 s The family sitcom has always been a form of entertainment that has brought people together, and has played a pivotal role in American society. Family values often change over time to reflect the issues being faced by each family member generationally. Media and entertainment are often affected by the social and political issues of their time. Many of these issues, and the way that these issues have shaped American values, have often influenced the content of television sitcoms. Although familysitcoms often reflect the values of real American families, in the 1970s, many television families had very few flaws, as opposed to the real families of the 1970s. Mythology and Archetypes in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird Of all the various approaches to criticism, the Mythological/Archetypal achieves the greatest impact over the entire literary scope, because the themes and patterns unearthed apply universally to all works, yielding results that can be applied to a great many texts. This is because the very nature of the Mythological/Archetypal approach is the exploration of the canon for widespread and pervading symbols, plots, and characters. Tom s injury, therefore, represents the injury of all the people he epitomizes. These symbols can be illustrated many places elsewhere in the literary canon. For example, the archetypal character of the crippled man symbolizing a crippled society can be perceived in the character of Benjy Compton in William Faulkner s tremendously symbolic novel The Sound and the Fury; Benjy, who is severely mentally challenged, has no concept of time and is preyed upon by vulturous members of his world, including his black care giver and his older brother Jason. Benjy represents Faulkner s conception of the decaying Southern gentility; that the sense of time is skewed (with its emphasis on the conservative old ways and the antebellum morality, the South, like Benjy, is living in a mixed world of past and present which is largely responsible for its failure and decline) and that its fate is beyond its control. Carver also uses the words girl and boy to describe the subjects of his frame story instead of woman and man , which could be his way of emphasizing the immaturity and inexperience of the young couple.
