Bacteri The Natural World s Unsung Heroes
Abstract
Bacteria are the natural world s unsung heroes. They receive bad rep due to the disease causing
individuals like tuberculosis but the vast majority of bacteria on Earth are harmless if not beneficial to
both the environment and humans. Take for example E. Coli a well known bacteria that lives within
our intestines. This particular bacteria makes vitamins that we need in order to stay healthy. In this
experiment we analyzed the changes seen in bacteria when adding to differing DNA plasmids; pUC18
and lux. To arrive to the most accurate results possible we had to have the E. Coli bacteria made
permeable to the plasmids. So it was prepared with calcium chloride. One group of bacteria was given
the pUC18 plasmid, and the other group was given the lux as well as the pUC18 plasmids. We then
proceeded to incubate them in different containers. Some had ampicillin where as some had none.
This was done in order to observe the effect of pUC18, and lux growth patterns. A control with neither
plasmid was used to keep a basis for our experiments. Bacteria that had transformed and taken in the
lux plasmid without ampicilin were able to illuminate, and only bacteria that gained the pUC18 were
capable of surviving with ampicillin. The results observed reveal how foreign DNA can be adapted to
fit into another cell s DNA even incorporated to be an optimal part of the cell. This process makes it a
very viable manner of being able to mass replicate advantageous genes, that would

Marilyn Monroe Persuasive Speech
Standing at the microphone she was suddenly overwhelmed by stage fright. She later confessed
thinking, I ll sing this song if it s the last thing I ever do. Jack smiled broadly as she finally launched
into her breathy and seductive version of Happy Birthday Mr President and a giant cake was wheeled
out. On stage with Monroe by his side the President recklessly announced, I can now retire from
politics after having Happy Birthday sung to me in such a sweet wholesome way. This was dangerous
in front of a national audience however Kennedy felt that in the case of Marilyn Monroe it was best to

The Effects Of Murine Chronic Cerebral Hypoperfusion
Abstract Murine chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) results in white matter (WM) injury and
behavioral deficits. Pericytes influence blood brain barrier (BBB) integrity and cerebral blood flow.
Under hypoxic conditions, perictyes detach from perivascular locations, increasing vessel
permeability and neuronal injury. This study characterizes the time course of BBB dysfunction and
pericyte coverage following murine experimental CCH secondary to bilateral carotid artery stenosis
(BCAS). Mice underwent BCAS or sham operation. On post procedure days 1, 3, 7 and 30, corpus
callosum BBB permeability was characterized using Evans blue (EB) extravasation and IgG staining
and pericyte coverage was calculated. The BCAS cohort demonstrated increased EB extravasation on
postoperative days 1 (p=.03) and 3 (p=.01) when compared to sham mice. Further, EB extravasation
was significantly greater (p=.03) at day 3 than at day 30 in BCAS mice. Positive IgG staining was
seen at post procedure day 3 in the BCAS group. BCAS mice demonstrated a nadir in pericyte
coverage on post operative day 3 (p50%) was reported to be 7% in women and 9% in men3. Clinical
carotid endarterectomy studies of cerebral hypoperfusion, demonstrate a nearly 25% incidence of
subtle cognitive decline in the absence of overt neurologic change or radiographic evidence of stroke4.
Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer s disease and vascular dementia have become
increasingly more common as the population ages5 8.

Adele s Rolling In The Deep
Have you ever felt a relationship you had just did not work out? Adele, a Grammy award winning
artist, is known for her popular love songs that express heartbreak, admiration, and many more topics
related to love. So far, she has released two albums, 19 and 21 that showcases her many famous songs
such as, Someone Like You and Hello . One of the most popular that is showcased is Rolling in the
Deep in which she released on November 29th, 2016. Different from Adele s genre of music is a band
named, Motion City Soundtrack. This band is a 1997 American rock band that has a sound that is
described as pop punk or emo. The band released six albums which included their breakthrough

Correspondingly stating individual differences by applying idioms in the text, Adele s song shows a
new sense of confidence along with the aforementioned pain while contrastingly Motion City
Soundtrack s song reveals a tone that is longing. The lyrics in Rolling in the Deep say, See how I leave
with every piece of you. Don t underestimate the things that I will do. The speaker is shows to be
unaffected by the relationship and he/she is trying to show the past lover how easily he/she can walk
away from the relationship. The idiom reveals as somewhat of a retribution and gives off a tone that is
apathetic. With this tone, it gives off a newfound feeling of confidence the speaker has gained for the
speaker is showing that he/she could do better without his/her past lover. The figurative language not
only helps explain the major difference from the longing My Favorite Accident expresses but it also
helps to add on to the theme that relationships do not always work out and that could be for better or
for worse. In contrast, My Favorite Accident states, I can t swim in the silence of your skin skin please
let me in. The idiom indicates the speaker and the lover may not speak any longer and the speaker is
desperate to speak to his/her lover again. As mentioned before, the text reveals a tone that is longing.

Organ Trafficking Research Paper
A Match Made In Your Abdomen As catchy and endearing as the title the matchmaker may seem, it
carries a darker meaning with it in today s discussion. Mr. Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, the matchmaker ,
was in the lucrative business of brokering the sale of kidneys to U.S. patients who were in dire need of
them. The matchmaker would purchase the kidneys from people from Israel at $10,000 U.S. dollars,
then resale them for a much higher and profitable price. Reports say that some may have been sold for
up to $160,000 U.S. dollars. This incredible case is the first reported organ trafficking one in the
United States. The alleged decade long scheme, exposed this week by an FBI sting, rocked the nation
s transplant industry. The charges, if true, would be the first documented case of organ trafficking in
the U.S., transplant experts said Friday. (Porter and Johnson, 2009). This operation, so to speak, was

The possibility of incompatible donors and receivers is a looming beast which not only wastes a good
organ, but can also harm the receiver. Sometimes in living donation, the blood groups of the donor

past, up to 30% of all potential living donor transplants were considered impossible due to blood
group and antibody incompatibilities. Recently however, it has become possible to transplant patients

The Negative Effects Of Barbie Dolls
In modern day society, impressionable teenage girls are bombarded with forms of media. They are
constantly exposed to media platforms and are consequently susceptible to society s outrageous
standards of what their ever changing bodies should look like. This can drive them to have unrealistic
expectations for themselves, deteriorating confidence and potentially life threatening illnesses such as,
anorexia and bulimia. Therefore, it is clear that the media has damaging effects on the still developing
females within our society. From a young age the media s expectations are accessible in the form of
Barbie Dolls. Unknowing girls idolize Barbie and her materialistic lifestyle hoping to one day become
the Barbie that they play with today. Statistics show that about 90% of 3 11 year old girls will have
own a Barbie Doll. Barbie becomes one of life s early role models. Yet the slim waist and long limbs
that Barbie portrays are an impossible figure that are unattainable for the human body. Therefore, from
a young age, females are set up to fail as they feel the need to reach an unattainable standard.
Moreover, as girls grow out of Barbie Dolls they are susceptible to many more forms of media and are
only exposed to them for approximately 7.5 hours per day when between the ages of 8 and 18.
Consequently, the average adolescent can view up to 400 600 advertisements per day through forms of
media such as, apps, TV and magazines and within those commercials around one in every 11

Social Expectations Of Love
Love is not a concept easily defined to its fullest capacity. It has been personified, resented, and over
exaggerated throughout the history of drama and has left readers on the edge of their seats as plots
unfold. With love, there are no set guidelines or feelings that can go along with a person s actions, but
there are societal expectations that cause a couple a great deal of misery if their love does not fit
within them. Renaissance dramas often broke through these expectations to challenge the way people
viewed and thought about love. Love is portrayed as a means for freedom, a lustful exchange, and a
reward for not following social expectations in the plays The Duchess of Malfi, Tis a Pity She s a
Whore, and The Shoemaker s Holiday proving that it is an aloof social construct with a range of
meanings. In the play The Duchess of Malfi, love is a means of keeping an acquired freedom. For the
title character, the Duchess, she earned a peculiar freedom when her first husband died. She gained his
political power and essentially her own freedom. In the beginning of the play, her brothers, the
Cardinal and Ferdinand, threaten this freedom by all but forbidding her to remarry: Marry? They are
most luxurious/Will wed twice (Webster, John. 1.1.299 300). The margins tell us that Luxurious , in
this case, means lecherous, suggesting to The Duchess that this would be her if she were to remarry.
Ferdinand s insistence the remarriage is a bad idea is for two reasons. One, he

Part 1: The process of Canonization is the process that a person must go through to become a saint.
This began around the tenth century. Pope John Paul II changed the process in 1983. Here is the
process. The first requirement is that the person must be dead for at least five years. They must be a
very holy person and a servant of God. Then the person s local church members must start a petition
to request that this person should become a saint. The Bishop will look into this person s life and
decide whether or not to pass this person on to the next step to the Pope. If he does a couple of
theologians will look more deeply into this person s life and evaluate the person. People who are
martyrs will automatically become a saint because they should amazing faith and holiness. Many of
the first saints were martyrs because they were persecuting Christians in the time of Jesus and a long
time after the ascension. The next step is to have at least two miracles credited to his or her name. If
they only have one miracle they will be named blessed, just like Blessed Edmund Rice. When they get
two miracles and they will in fact become a recognized saint in the Catholic Church.
Part 2: St. Patrick Saint Patrick is one of the most well known saints in the Catholic Church. Along
with the two saints, St. Nicholas and St. Valentine, St. Patrick has a worldwide day that shares the love

Does Correspondence Bias Exist
There are so many things on this earth that are dependent on each other and small actions beforehand
can change the way we view someone for a life time. The phenomena of correspondence bias are a
huge factor in social psychology in today s world. Correspondence bias is the idea that people have
the tendency to attribute one s behavior in a certain instance to an essential part of another person s
being, character, and inner values. When in it can all be explained by the environment and the
situation before this action had occurred. For example, if you are meeting someone for the first time
and they are rude when you speak with them. Then you go off and think this person is a rude and
disrespectful person in general, when in reality they were only that way because their wife just cheated
on them. So you got their rudeness out of context. In our class s CB study, although we were shown
the situational assignment the class as a whole showed correspondence bias. The students in the class

The significance is how can we change the way western societies think to change this phenomena,
because this phenome is a huge part of social interactions. Instead of automatically assuming that a
person s actions in that moment reflect their entire character and who they are as a person, we could
focus more on their situation and what might have caused them to act the way they did and understand
their situation as a whole. This could make westerners as a whole less judgmental about the actions of
others and decrease conflict among people. Another way this question could help is we could study
how a westerner s brain reacts to a certain situation compared to a non western s brain and see the
difference in where and how much brain activity there

I think that Harper Lee was inspired by the events of the Scottsboro Boys to write To Kill a

very similar to people that were involved in the Scottsboro Boys trials. The setting in a small Alabama
town are similar and that both of the accoused rapes are both under similar circumstances that a black
man was accused by a white women. This essay will be comparing characters from the book to real
people from the Scottsboro Boys trials. Including Haywood Patterson, Tom Robinson, Victoria Price,

on the train compared to the boys that she said raped her. She said that she wasn t on that train and she

Mayella Ewell. During most of the trials Victoria would normally make a lot of jokes about things that
everyone was asking her. Mayella Ewell Was very afraid when she testified and basically just said
what her father said and was very hesitant and glanced over at her father before she answered any of
Atticus s questions. You learned that she had a very sad life and was a 19 year old girl who didn t have

addressed her as Ms. Mayella or ma am. Near the end of the testimony she broke her oath to tell the
truth when she just stopped talking to all of them and run of the witness stand, down to her spot next
to her father. After hearing both of them testify you start to notice that there are some blank spaces
between their stories that don t make any sense. For example Victoria said that she was on the train
when she was raped but later said that they put her on the gravel and there wasn t any gravel on the

First Amendment Rights, Privacy and the Paparazzi
The question of paparazzi threatening privacy and First Amendment rights is often to situational to
argue in a conventional manner, but certainly there are many facets of the issue which can be
addressed in a quite straightforward manner. Celebrities who feel they have the right to privacy in
public places often muddy the waters of this issue. Oddly enough, those celebrities who have chosen
to speak out against what they feel are violations of their privacy most always begin their campaigns
with a large press conference. In other words, they gather together those people they wish to not only

Their print journalist counterparts, who are afforded not only the luxury of editing, but also a few
column inches within which to develop their perception of the story fall into a different category all
together. A photojournalist must ascertain the defining image of a news event as it is happening and
capture it on film. If he or she is doing the job correctly, a reader can get a very good idea of what
happened without even reading the accompanying article. There is no luxury of editing in
photojournalism, the moment is either captured forever, or it isn t. If a fantastic shot is missed, it is
gone forever.
A good freelance photojournalist shoots what he or she knows. A good photojournalist also knows
what will sell. Some photographs really aren t worth taking from a newsworthiness standpoint, but if a
publication is willing to pay enough for them, than they will be taken. Sadly money does rule the
world, and until paparazzi photographers can feed their families without having to take these sorts of
pictures, they will continue to be taken.
It is obvious that one of two things is happening. Either the paparazzi does not threaten privacy and
First Amendment rights, or they do in such a way that the public does not care. The reason for this
goes back to the rich publications that ultimately drive paparazzi photographers to take these pictures.

The Biased Media Essay examples
In today s society television news is an entertainment medium which was intended to provide
information to the public on current issues, but that is not its prime function any more. It s also meant
to help viewers see issues from different perspectives. Being objective on a certain issue cannot
always exist so there is a bias of some sort in every news station. Each news station has a specific
point of view and they try to persuade the viewers to agree with them. To do this they use specific
evidence to support the idea, and specific language to help you to believe that idea.
The relationship between the media and politics has been going on for a long time. According to Paul

We should have the ability to watch a news station and get details and be able to decide on a situation
on our own.
There are many arguments when it comes to this issue. Some people think that the media has a liberal
bias; some people think that there is a conservative view. The real issue is that there is a bias opinion
and this is changing the way that people perceive the media. According to Tyler Cohen `Media Bias Is
Not a Serious Problem it doesn t matter that the media has a biased opinion. He states that people are
aware that the media is bias and because of that they keep in mind when watching. He also states that
people want to watch stations that have the same opinion as them (2005). Most people to watch
specific news stations that do have the same belief as them, but we should be able to watch whatever
station we want and be able to get the same type of information.
The question of the media having a liberal bias definitely been around for some time now. Because the
media has received so many complaints about having this slanted view some think that the media has
changed. According to E.J. Dionne s article `Liberal Media Bias Is a Myth the media has gotten better.
He states that on social and cultural issues, the media was reporting more objectively (2002). In his
article he brings up the issue that now that the media is trying to not be so liberal they are now going
to have a new bias. It is a constant battle.

rebuilding self esteem and trust(AVP Canada, 2007). If we consider our society today, our community
tends to isolate and exclude many of the prisoners due to the stereotypical views. As an example,
people generally have belief that the offenders are bad, unforgivable, dangerous, negative, deviant and
many other negative perspectives as well. As a result, many of the incarcerated prisoners lose their self

Reseach on the Impact of Religion Bias on Performance...
1. Introduction One of the fundamental purposes of management accounting and control research is to
motivate employees to operate for the firm s interest. It is clear that incentives affect overall
performance, and thus, managers and accountants by providing monetary incentives and compensation
systems aim to improve their employees performance. However, the inequity is produced by the
design of compensation contracts and by managers performance evaluation biases, is perceived to be
one of the main problems of firm s prosperity. A large theoretical literature, based on agency theory,
has emphasized how firms design compensation contracts make employees to do their best for the
firm. Therefore, firms include many different mechanisms (i.e. piece rates, options, bonuses and
stocks, budget targets) in their compensation contracts to align interests between the employees and
their managers. However, objective measures are not perfect and using only these is unlikely to be the
most effective way to motivate employees (Feltham Xie 1994; Hemmer 1996). Financial measures
provoke a reallocation of activities toward those that are directly compensated and away from the
uncompensated activities, known as multitasking problem (Holmstrom Milgrom, 1990, Baker 1992).
They have been criticized for promoting over emphasis on short turn financial results, and thus, they
sacrifice long turn (Ittner et al., 1997, 2003). Moreover, financial measures of performance tend to be

Literary Analysis Of Johnny Got His Gun
Dalton Trumbo, author of Johnny Got His Gun, is known for his unique style of writing. Many
acclaimed authors of books such as Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice have a formal writing style , on
the other hand, Trumbo s is informal. It consists of short sentences and punctuation techniques. This
writing style is what sets Trumbo apart from others because this writing style is difficult to execute
and it is hard to apply to other works of literature. His book, Johnny Got His Gun has won the award
for National Award for Most Original Book . This book is about a soldier named Joe who has become
handicapped after a bomb blast and experiences flashbacks which reflect back onto his past and

Three elements that define an author s style of writing include diction (the word choice), syntax

Role Of The British Empire During The Industrial Revolution
Introduction The people of Great Britain are very proud of the nations history when it comes to
engineering and innovation. The role the British Empire played in the industrial revolution??, the
development of the steam engine?? and rail transport?? were the first few steps that changed the face
of the world (for better or worth) that we live in now. This idea fills people s hearts with pride. But
where this idea is still alive in some parts of the country, there are areas where this attitude is no
longer to be found. The birthplace of the railway has seemed to have fallen behind the rest of the
world. High speed trains that are outdated before they are even built and portion of the public resisting
even that (for all the wrong reasons). High Speed Two High Speed Two is the high speed railway that
is planned to connect London to the West Midlands in its phase 1 and later extended to Manchester

scheduled to begin construction in 2017 and phase 1 will due to be finished in 2026. Most of the rails
in the United Kingdom either dates back to Victorian times or is of the quality that it might as well
be??. These lines are limited to a speed of 200km/h and therefore it is more efficient to built new lines
for high speed rails. High Speed Rail has been around in one form or another since the 1960s (in other
countries that is). Today, an operating speed of at least 250km/h is required for anything

A schematic representation of brick clay resources in Great Britain is presented in Figure 1.
The market of bricks presented significant changes with the introduction of concrete blocks as the
latter replaced common bricks in construction. This resulted to a shift of the market in producing
facing bricks, used for aesthetic purposes (Figure 2). The use of facing bricks accounts for over 90%
of demand (BGS, 2007) (DTI construction statistics) The production of facing bricks appears quite
stable for the last seven years. Common and engineering bricks are still produced, but in

much lower quantities (Figure 2), whereas the manufacturing of facing bricks have expanded
significantly and currently is described by several products with different colours, textures, surfaces
and sizes. Clay tiles have also been affected by the introduction of concrete. Ceramic pipemaking has
declined considerably due to competition from concrete and plastic pipes. The only products that show
an increase in demand are roofing tiles, which have become more popular recently (BGS, 2007).
Bricks are produced either by extrusion or by the soft mud process. Extrusion is the commonest
option. Two schematic diagrams describing the manufacturing processes are presented in Figure 3 and

Dr Strangelove Character Analysis
The award winning black and white film Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and
Love the Bomb by Stanley Kubrick is a production of the year 1964. The ninety five minute film
satirizes the Cold war and how many fear the conflict between the USSR and the United States. This
film stars Peter Sellers who plays three roles throughout the movie (Captain Mandrake, President
Merkin Muffley, and Dr. Strangelove), George C. Scott (General Buck Turgidson), Sterling Hayden
(General Jack Ripper), Tracy Reid (General Turgidson s secretary and mistress), and Slim Pickens

Merkin Muffley was given that name because of the opposition. Buck Turgidson also has a sexually

Colin Kaepernick s Star Spangled Banner
I didn t have to read this article to form an opinion on this topic. Being that this topic is not new, I
have already developed a strong and distinct point of view. Colin Kaepernick, who is a black, former,
American football player, is one of many participating in the Black Lives Matter movement as of
today. I for one commend him for his displays of courage and activism throughout the 2016 football
season. But he could have chosen a different way to protest. When Colin Kaepernick kneeled during
the Star Spangled Banner a mass dispute over race, patriotism and football broke out across the United
States. Many people who were opposed to Kaepernick s protest believed he was disrespecting our
military by not standing with his hand over his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Conquistadors Summary
The reshaping of the New World began the moment Spaniards set foot on the continent. Those first
conquistadors documented their encounters with native peoples, emphasizing their desire to convert
these peoples to Christianity and away from their heathenistic rituals. The documents presented by
Stuart B. Schwartz portray accounts from the perspectives of both the conquerors and the conquered.
His work does not provide much in the way of personal interpretation but rather displays the
documents so the reader can compare better both sides of the New World inhabitants. These
documents present an opportunity to consider moments of heroism, greed, and despair born during the
clashing of Spanish and Nahua cultures and challenge the way historians view such cultures and the
interpretation of primary texts. Schwartz s goal, it would seem, is not to persuade readers of the
accuracy of one source over another but rather to call attention to how personal interests, class and
ethnic biases, and politics influence the interpretation of the conquering of the Aztec empire. Irene
Silverblatt examines the new Spanish lands after Spaniards have established themselves in and
amongst the native peoples. She describes the development of a modern world through the views of
Spanish imperialism and argues that the Inquisition provides such evidence. Using church records,
sermons, and missionary guides, Silverblatt examines how the modern world was build, experienced,
and understood by the

4.6.2 Krawinkler and Nassar (1992)
A relationship was developed for the force reduction factor derived from the statistical analysis of 15
western USA ground motions with magnitude between 5.7 and
7.7 (Krawinkler and Nassar, 1992).
C is constant which is dependent on period (T) and α which is the strain hardening parameter of the

4.6.3 Miranda and Bertero (1994)
The equation for reduction factor introduced by Miranda and Bertero (1994) was obtained from a
study of 124 ground motions recorded on a wide range of soil conditions. The soil conditions were
classified as rock, alluvium and very soft sites 41 characterized by low shear wave velocity. A 5% of

Bacchae Theatre Experience
The Bacchae was really interesting to see, especially after taking the spectacle theatre class. It actually
reminded me more of exercises that we did in spectacle theater than in this class but it did remind me
of the sound project, particularly when the Bacchae go into the crowd and start yelling from the
sidelines during the Walls Work scene because it was a really great way of creating a sort of
soundscape atmosphere that came from more than one direction on the stage. Those are the kind of
concepts that we were playing with in the sound exercise. Some of the lines, like some of the more
abstract Bacchae lines reminded me of free writing exercises, especially ones where we would start

How Did Ww1 Affect The Economy Of Canada
World War I was just a stepping stone for the Canadian nation, it was their efforts in the Second World
War that Canada really became independent. The short term losses gave Canada long term benefits. Its
economic growth, international respect, and political standing gave her recognition and more
importantly, it shaped itself as an independent country. Canada was a widespread name after the
victory on D Day. What was previously a colony of Britain, became an international power house on
its own. As war erupted, Canada began to supply many resources and raw material to the war, which
created a boom in the economy. Factories sprouted across Canada due to the exceeding demand of war
material. Lots of factories converted their production line to help the effort, putting more money into
the flow. In the pre war period agriculture was an important section of the economy, however the war
changed that drastically as industry was required. As the war started and by 1942 thousands of
Canadian men and women found employment. In the post war period naturally big investments were
made into mining, production, transport, and service industries. This also brought in masses of
immigrants. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Drug Crime Link Between Crime And Crime
There is a popular widespread belief in the media, politics and society that illegal drugs and addiction
to illegal drugs, in general, is the cause of a significant proportion of crime (Seddon, 2000). This idea
has exerted an increasingly strong hold on drug policies around the world (Bean, 2008), including
New Zealand. The drug crime link refers to the argument that crime is one of, if not the major,
consequent problems of drug use (Bean, 2008), essentially, crime is a problem that arises from drug
use and drug use can arise from crime also. Drugs and crime are consistently related to each other in a
number of studies, however, despite popular belief, the connection between the two are far too
complicated to summarise as a straightforward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The drug crime link is incredibly complex and can not be simply summarised as a straightforward
relationship between the two. The prevalence of drug use and the prevalence of crime is hard to
measure and there is also a possibility that other factors influence both drug use and crime
(Hammersley, 2008).
Drug use is a largely illegal activity consequently making it extremely difficult to measure (Bean,
2008). There are a lot of problems measuring the prevalence of drug use in society as it mainly hidden
away to avoid prosecution. Coomber et al. (2013), indicates that in the last 50 100 years drug use
around the world has had an enormous growth and around five percent of the world s 15 64 year old
population had used an illicit drug at least once in the past twelve months, and additionally this seems
to be more or less the case for the recent past history. This essentially indicates that quite a number of
the population have used an illegal drug recently. If this is the case, wouldn t crime be a bigger
problem in the world? Both crime and drug use are hidden to a certain extent, known as the dark
figure where certain crimes are committed but there are no offences that have been officially recorded
(Higgins and Marcum, 2016). Even with prevalence studies and research, no one knows the exact
figure of how many people are involved, or how

In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, Written by Himself, Douglass

He adds that his mistress s tender heart became stone (Andrews 188). When he first tries to free
himself from such people, Douglass ends up all alone, within the walls of a stone prison (Andrews

dramatic Caucasian oppression of African Americans. James Baldwin also includes images of stone

Theme Of Sensory Evidence In The Duchess Of Malfi
The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster is a tragic play, which deals with love, power, and madness.
The madness derives from the use of sensory evidence. In many cases, Webster uses sensory evidence
to push his characters to the limit of their own mind. The concept of sensory experience is a way to
grab your readers attention while using the five senses to do so. Webster employs this concept in ways
that progress the plot. However, it causes much trouble for most of the characters, especially The
Duchess herself. Although there could be many factors that affect the death of the Duchess, the use of
the sensory experience is the most evident. We can easily observe this by her marriage to Antonio, her
relationship with Bosola, and her problems with Ferdinand. To begin, a crucial conversation shapes
the course of the play in a subtle but immense way. In Act 1, scene 3, The Cardinal and Ferdinand
insist that The Duchess does not remarry after the death of her husband. However, they are not aware
that the Duchess is planning on marrying Antonio, her old steward. The following citation shows
Ferdinand s thought of those who remarry. Marry! They are most luxurious/will wed twice. (John
Webster, Act 1, scene 3, line 6 7) His comment uses the word Luxurious which means lecherous.
Ferdinand is saying that widows that remarry are driven by an excessive desire for sexual relations
and nothing more. After both brothers have spoken of their thoughts on the matter, The Duchess

Alternative Solutions
As the company continues to grow, it doesn t mean they have to conform to a different culture.
Innovation is very important to Google and its employees. It will be very important, however, they
continue to make employees feel like they are entrepreneurs and are encouraged to bring forward great
ideas. Employees kept themselves in check to ensure they were considered Googley and not Dilberty .
In the interview process, candidates are thoroughly screened to ensure they met googley qualities and
can adapt to the environment.
At one point, Kim Scott hired additional managers to keep up with growth, which concerned people
about losing the innovation methodology of Google. The managers Scott hired, however didn t squash
innovation, but rather embraced it.
Recommendation
Google is not considered a top down organization. Employees prefer to be mentored, rather managed.
It is important to the employees they are free to be creative and innovative in the work they do without
criticism or micro management. The concept of having meetings to discuss ideas instead of making
decisions has been another success for Google.
The engineers were given one free day a week to work on anything they chose. This lead to the
development of great tools like Google Mail and Google News. This one free day a week ended up
being very productive for the company. As new employees are hired, it will be

The Mongol Empire And The Impact Of The Mongol Empire
Revised paper proposal and bibliography
The Mongol empire was one the greatest empires of all time expanding all over Central Asia.
Bordering Chinese states, the Khwarazmian empire, present day Afghanistan, Siberia, Iran, and many
more, at its height the mongol empire was over 20,000,000 square kilometers. This was all possible
due to extraordinary men in Central Asia, ruled by Genghis khan emperor of the Mongol empire.
These Asian nomads along with their fearless and intelligent leader, flourished against numerous odds
impacting all those whom they waged war against. A recipient of this impact in particular was Russia.
It was around 1219 when the Mongols first entered the Kievan Russia marking the beginning of the
interactions of the two. With the Mongols rise in establishing one of the largest contiguous empire in
history and having Russia only distances away the collision of the two were inevitable. As history
shows this collision did happen in the year 1236 which marked the beginning of great impact that the
Mongols would have on the Russian empire culturally, politically, and economically.
Prior to the rise of the Mongol empire and their invasion of Russia, was a time of violence. Mongolia
separated by tribes and provinces was a non unified empire with little impact to Central Asia. Being
separated, feuds between provinces of power and money were the reason why Mongolia remained
separated. The provinces after a long a grueling process eventually became united by a

  • 2. Bacteri The Natural World s Unsung Heroes Abstract Bacteria are the natural world s unsung heroes. They receive bad rep due to the disease causing individuals like tuberculosis but the vast majority of bacteria on Earth are harmless if not beneficial to both the environment and humans. Take for example E. Coli a well known bacteria that lives within our intestines. This particular bacteria makes vitamins that we need in order to stay healthy. In this experiment we analyzed the changes seen in bacteria when adding to differing DNA plasmids; pUC18 and lux. To arrive to the most accurate results possible we had to have the E. Coli bacteria made permeable to the plasmids. So it was prepared with calcium chloride. One group of bacteria was given the pUC18 plasmid, and the other group was given the lux as well as the pUC18 plasmids. We then proceeded to incubate them in different containers. Some had ampicillin where as some had none. This was done in order to observe the effect of pUC18, and lux growth patterns. A control with neither plasmid was used to keep a basis for our experiments. Bacteria that had transformed and taken in the lux plasmid without ampicilin were able to illuminate, and only bacteria that gained the pUC18 were capable of surviving with ampicillin. The results observed reveal how foreign DNA can be adapted to fit into another cell s DNA even incorporated to be an optimal part of the cell. This process makes it a very viable manner of being able to mass replicate advantageous genes, that would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Marilyn Monroe Persuasive Speech Standing at the microphone she was suddenly overwhelmed by stage fright. She later confessed thinking, I ll sing this song if it s the last thing I ever do. Jack smiled broadly as she finally launched into her breathy and seductive version of Happy Birthday Mr President and a giant cake was wheeled out. On stage with Monroe by his side the President recklessly announced, I can now retire from politics after having Happy Birthday sung to me in such a sweet wholesome way. This was dangerous in front of a national audience however Kennedy felt that in the case of Marilyn Monroe it was best to hide in plain sight. It was a violent argument ... she was really screaming and they were trying to quiet her. She s in the bedroom and Bobby gets a pillow and muffles her...to keep the neighbours from hearing. She finally quieted down and then he was looking to get out of there. Otash claimed Monroe had a sexual relationship with both Kennedys. In his notes Otash says, Marilyn wanted a mini phone listening device and said he spied on her when she was giving him money to install recording equipment. To tape her phone calls. • 4. The Effects Of Murine Chronic Cerebral Hypoperfusion Abstract Murine chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) results in white matter (WM) injury and behavioral deficits. Pericytes influence blood brain barrier (BBB) integrity and cerebral blood flow. Under hypoxic conditions, perictyes detach from perivascular locations, increasing vessel permeability and neuronal injury. This study characterizes the time course of BBB dysfunction and pericyte coverage following murine experimental CCH secondary to bilateral carotid artery stenosis (BCAS). Mice underwent BCAS or sham operation. On post procedure days 1, 3, 7 and 30, corpus callosum BBB permeability was characterized using Evans blue (EB) extravasation and IgG staining and pericyte coverage was calculated. The BCAS cohort demonstrated increased EB extravasation on postoperative days 1 (p=.03) and 3 (p=.01) when compared to sham mice. Further, EB extravasation was significantly greater (p=.03) at day 3 than at day 30 in BCAS mice. Positive IgG staining was seen at post procedure day 3 in the BCAS group. BCAS mice demonstrated a nadir in pericyte coverage on post operative day 3 (p50%) was reported to be 7% in women and 9% in men3. Clinical carotid endarterectomy studies of cerebral hypoperfusion, demonstrate a nearly 25% incidence of subtle cognitive decline in the absence of overt neurologic change or radiographic evidence of stroke4. Correspondingly stating individual differences by applying idioms in the text, Adele s song shows a new sense of confidence along with the aforementioned pain while contrastingly Motion City Soundtrack s song reveals a tone that is longing. The lyrics in Rolling in the Deep say, See how I leave with every piece of you. Don t underestimate the things that I will do. The speaker is shows to be unaffected by the relationship and he/she is trying to show the past lover how easily he/she can walk away from the relationship. The idiom reveals as somewhat of a retribution and gives off a tone that is apathetic. With this tone, it gives off a newfound feeling of confidence the speaker has gained for the speaker is showing that he/she could do better without his/her past lover. The figurative language not only helps explain the major difference from the longing My Favorite Accident expresses but it also helps to add on to the theme that relationships do not always work out and that could be for better or for worse. In contrast, My Favorite Accident states, I can t swim in the silence of your skin skin please let me in. • 6. Organ Trafficking Research Paper A Match Made In Your Abdomen As catchy and endearing as the title the matchmaker may seem, it carries a darker meaning with it in today s discussion. Mr. Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, the matchmaker , was in the lucrative business of brokering the sale of kidneys to U.S. patients who were in dire need of them. The matchmaker would purchase the kidneys from people from Israel at $10,000 U.S. dollars, then resale them for a much higher and profitable price. Reports say that some may have been sold for up to $160,000 U.S. dollars. This incredible case is the first reported organ trafficking one in the United States. The alleged decade long scheme, exposed this week by an FBI sting, rocked the nation s transplant industry. The charges, if true, would be the first documented case of organ trafficking in the U.S., transplant experts said Friday. (Porter and Johnson, 2009). The possibility of incompatible donors and receivers is a looming beast which not only wastes a good organ, but can also harm the receiver. Sometimes in living donation, the blood groups of the donor (person who is giving the organ) and recipient (person who is receiving the organ) don t match. In the past, up to 30% of all potential living donor transplants were considered impossible due to blood group and antibody incompatibilities. Recently however, it has become possible to transplant patients in this situation using specialised techniques. Only a few centres routinely perform this in the UK. (Guys and St. Thomas Hospital, 2017) While we may want to fool ourselves into thinking that the matchmaker and other organ distributors are using these methods. They are not. They are only using the cheapest and easiest methods so they can have wider profit margins on their untaxed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Negative Effects Of Barbie Dolls In modern day society, impressionable teenage girls are bombarded with forms of media. They are constantly exposed to media platforms and are consequently susceptible to society s outrageous standards of what their ever changing bodies should look like. This can drive them to have unrealistic expectations for themselves, deteriorating confidence and potentially life threatening illnesses such as, anorexia and bulimia. Therefore, it is clear that the media has damaging effects on the still developing females within our society. From a young age the media s expectations are accessible in the form of Barbie Dolls. Unknowing girls idolize Barbie and her materialistic lifestyle hoping to one day become the Barbie that they play with today. Statistics show that about 90% of 3 11 year old girls will have own a Barbie Doll. Barbie becomes one of life s early role models. Yet the slim waist and long limbs that Barbie portrays are an impossible figure that are unattainable for the human body. Therefore, from a young age, females are set up to fail as they feel the need to reach an unattainable standard. Moreover, as girls grow out of Barbie Dolls they are susceptible to many more forms of media and are only exposed to them for approximately 7.5 hours per day when between the ages of 8 and 18. • 8. Social Expectations Of Love Love is not a concept easily defined to its fullest capacity. It has been personified, resented, and over exaggerated throughout the history of drama and has left readers on the edge of their seats as plots unfold. With love, there are no set guidelines or feelings that can go along with a person s actions, but there are societal expectations that cause a couple a great deal of misery if their love does not fit within them. Renaissance dramas often broke through these expectations to challenge the way people viewed and thought about love. Love is portrayed as a means for freedom, a lustful exchange, and a reward for not following social expectations in the plays The Duchess of Malfi, Tis a Pity She s a Whore, and The Shoemaker s Holiday proving that it is an aloof social construct with a range of meanings. In the play The Duchess of Malfi, love is a means of keeping an acquired freedom. For the title character, the Duchess, she earned a peculiar freedom when her first husband died. She gained his political power and essentially her own freedom. In the beginning of the play, her brothers, the Cardinal and Ferdinand, threaten this freedom by all but forbidding her to remarry: Marry? They are most luxurious/Will wed twice (Webster, John. 1.1.299 300). The margins tell us that Luxurious , in this case, means lecherous, suggesting to The Duchess that this would be her if she were to remarry. Ferdinand s insistence the remarriage is a bad idea is for two reasons. One, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This began around the tenth century. Pope John Paul II changed the process in 1983. Here is the process. The first requirement is that the person must be dead for at least five years. They must be a very holy person and a servant of God. Then the person s local church members must start a petition to request that this person should become a saint. The Bishop will look into this person s life and decide whether or not to pass this person on to the next step to the Pope. If he does a couple of theologians will look more deeply into this person s life and evaluate the person. People who are martyrs will automatically become a saint because they should amazing faith and holiness. Many of the first saints were martyrs because they were persecuting Christians in the time of Jesus and a long time after the ascension. The next step is to have at least two miracles credited to his or her name. If they only have one miracle they will be named blessed, just like Blessed Edmund Rice. • 11. Does Correspondence Bias Exist There are so many things on this earth that are dependent on each other and small actions beforehand can change the way we view someone for a life time. The phenomena of correspondence bias are a huge factor in social psychology in today s world. Correspondence bias is the idea that people have the tendency to attribute one s behavior in a certain instance to an essential part of another person s being, character, and inner values. When in it can all be explained by the environment and the situation before this action had occurred. For example, if you are meeting someone for the first time and they are rude when you speak with them. Then you go off and think this person is a rude and disrespectful person in general, when in reality they were only that way because their wife just cheated on them. So you got their rudeness out of context. In our class s CB study, although we were shown the situational assignment the class as a whole showed correspondence bias. Instead of automatically assuming that a person s actions in that moment reflect their entire character and who they are as a person, we could focus more on their situation and what might have caused them to act the way they did and understand their situation as a whole. This could make westerners as a whole less judgmental about the actions of others and decrease conflict among people. Another way this question could help is we could study how a westerner s brain reacts to a certain situation compared to a non western s brain and see the difference in where and how much brain activity there ... Introduction One of the fundamental purposes of management accounting and control research is to motivate employees to operate for the firm s interest. It is clear that incentives affect overall performance, and thus, managers and accountants by providing monetary incentives and compensation systems aim to improve their employees performance. However, the inequity is produced by the design of compensation contracts and by managers performance evaluation biases, is perceived to be one of the main problems of firm s prosperity. A large theoretical literature, based on agency theory, has emphasized how firms design compensation contracts make employees to do their best for the firm. Therefore, firms include many different mechanisms (i.e. piece rates, options, bonuses and stocks, budget targets) in their compensation contracts to align interests between the employees and their managers. However, objective measures are not perfect and using only these is unlikely to be the most effective way to motivate employees (Feltham Xie 1994; Hemmer 1996). Financial measures provoke a reallocation of activities toward those that are directly compensated and away from the uncompensated activities, known as multitasking problem (Holmstrom Milgrom, 1990, Baker 1992). Those first conquistadors documented their encounters with native peoples, emphasizing their desire to convert these peoples to Christianity and away from their heathenistic rituals. The documents presented by Stuart B. Schwartz portray accounts from the perspectives of both the conquerors and the conquered. His work does not provide much in the way of personal interpretation but rather displays the documents so the reader can compare better both sides of the New World inhabitants. These documents present an opportunity to consider moments of heroism, greed, and despair born during the clashing of Spanish and Nahua cultures and challenge the way historians view such cultures and the interpretation of primary texts. Schwartz s goal, it would seem, is not to persuade readers of the accuracy of one source over another but rather to call attention to how personal interests, class and ethnic biases, and politics influence the interpretation of the conquering of the Aztec empire. Irene Silverblatt examines the new Spanish lands after Spaniards have established themselves in and amongst the native peoples. • 28. Bacchae Theatre Experience The Bacchae was really interesting to see, especially after taking the spectacle theatre class. It actually reminded me more of exercises that we did in spectacle theater than in this class but it did remind me of the sound project, particularly when the Bacchae go into the crowd and start yelling from the sidelines during the Walls Work scene because it was a really great way of creating a sort of soundscape atmosphere that came from more than one direction on the stage. Those are the kind of concepts that we were playing with in the sound exercise. Some of the lines, like some of the more abstract Bacchae lines reminded me of free writing exercises, especially ones where we would start with a prompting sentence and we could write anything ... I think that people in the audience felt involved, especially during the scene where Pentheus is like Donald Trump because you have all the Bacchae in the audience yelling and cheering. When the Bacchae join the crowd and cheer and yell from the seats it makes the audience feel more involved. They act just like Trump supporters at a rally which is a very relevant commentary which I think worked really well. The whole comparison itself between Pentheus and Donald Trump is just really interesting to me because we see Pentheus as this tyrant, stubborn and afraid of foreigners. That itself is what makes it so funny because it s also a good parody of Donald ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The short term losses gave Canada long term benefits. Its economic growth, international respect, and political standing gave her recognition and more importantly, it shaped itself as an independent country. Canada was a widespread name after the victory on D Day. What was previously a colony of Britain, became an international power house on its own. As war erupted, Canada began to supply many resources and raw material to the war, which created a boom in the economy. Factories sprouted across Canada due to the exceeding demand of war material. Lots of factories converted their production line to help the effort, putting more money into the flow. In the pre war period agriculture was an important section of the economy, however the war changed that drastically as industry was required. • 31. The Drug Crime Link Between Crime And Crime There is a popular widespread belief in the media, politics and society that illegal drugs and addiction to illegal drugs, in general, is the cause of a significant proportion of crime (Seddon, 2000). This idea has exerted an increasingly strong hold on drug policies around the world (Bean, 2008), including New Zealand. The drug crime link refers to the argument that crime is one of, if not the major, consequent problems of drug use (Bean, 2008), essentially, crime is a problem that arises from drug use and drug use can arise from crime also. Drugs and crime are consistently related to each other in a number of studies, however, despite popular belief, the connection between the two are far too complicated to summarise as a straightforward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The drug crime link is incredibly complex and can not be simply summarised as a straightforward relationship between the two. The prevalence of drug use and the prevalence of crime is hard to measure and there is also a possibility that other factors influence both drug use and crime (Hammersley, 2008). Drug use is a largely illegal activity consequently making it extremely difficult to measure (Bean, 2008). There are a lot of problems measuring the prevalence of drug use in society as it mainly hidden away to avoid prosecution. Coomber et al. (2013), indicates that in the last 50 100 years drug use around the world has had an enormous growth and around five percent of the world s 15 64 year old population had used an illicit drug at least once in the past twelve months, and additionally this seems to be more or less the case for the recent past history. This essentially indicates that quite a number of the population have used an illegal drug recently. If this is the case, wouldn t crime be a bigger problem in the world? Both crime and drug use are hidden to a certain extent, known as the dark figure where certain crimes are committed but there are no offences that have been officially recorded (Higgins and Marcum, 2016). In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, Written by Himself, Douglass describes his overseer as a man of the most inflexible firmness and stone like coolness (Andrews 181). He adds that his mistress s tender heart became stone (Andrews 188). When he first tries to free himself from such people, Douglass ends up all alone, within the walls of a stone prison (Andrews 208). Throughout these references, the image of stone is repeatedly linked with the stonehearted and dramatic Caucasian oppression of African Americans. • 33. Theme Of Sensory Evidence In The Duchess Of Malfi The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster is a tragic play, which deals with love, power, and madness. The madness derives from the use of sensory evidence. In many cases, Webster uses sensory evidence to push his characters to the limit of their own mind. The concept of sensory experience is a way to grab your readers attention while using the five senses to do so. Webster employs this concept in ways that progress the plot. However, it causes much trouble for most of the characters, especially The Duchess herself. Although there could be many factors that affect the death of the Duchess, the use of the sensory experience is the most evident. We can easily observe this by her marriage to Antonio, her relationship with Bosola, and her problems with Ferdinand. To begin, a crucial conversation shapes the course of the play in a subtle but immense way. In Act 1, scene 3, The Cardinal and Ferdinand insist that The Duchess does not remarry after the death of her husband. However, they are not aware that the Duchess is planning on marrying Antonio, her old steward. The following citation shows Ferdinand s thought of those who remarry. Marry! They are most luxurious/will wed twice. (John Webster, Act 1, scene 3, line 6 7) His comment uses the word Luxurious which means lecherous. Ferdinand is saying that widows that remarry are driven by an excessive desire for sexual relations and nothing more. • 38. The Mongol Empire And The Impact Of The Mongol Empire Revised paper proposal and bibliography The Mongol empire was one the greatest empires of all time expanding all over Central Asia. Bordering Chinese states, the Khwarazmian empire, present day Afghanistan, Siberia, Iran, and many more, at its height the mongol empire was over 20,000,000 square kilometers. This was all possible due to extraordinary men in Central Asia, ruled by Genghis khan emperor of the Mongol empire. These Asian nomads along with their fearless and intelligent leader, flourished against numerous odds impacting all those whom they waged war against. A recipient of this impact in particular was Russia. It was around 1219 when the Mongols first entered the Kievan Russia marking the beginning of the interactions of the two. With the Mongols rise in establishing one of the largest contiguous empire in history and having Russia only distances away the collision of the two were inevitable. As history shows this collision did happen in the year 1236 which marked the beginning of great impact that the Mongols would have on the Russian empire culturally, politically, and economically. Prior to the rise of the Mongol empire and their invasion of Russia, was a time of violence. Mongolia separated by tribes and provinces was a non unified empire with little impact to Central Asia. Being separated, feuds between provinces of power and money were the reason why Mongolia remained separated. The provinces after a long a grueling process eventually became united by a ...
