Bear Stearns Bailout
Bear Stearns Bailout The Fed did not bailout Bear at taxpayer expense, but enabled as it is mandated
the financial markets to continue to function. History will call the Fed s action the right move at the
right time , says Jeremy Siegel, Ph.D. The Bear Stearns Company began a financial meltdown in July
2007. By March 2008, it was ready to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Some people believe that the
Federal Reserve should not have stepped in to bailout Bear Stearns because it was rewarding reckless
business behavior and Bear should have been left to file bankruptcy. The deal of Bear Stearns was not
a government bailout; it was rather a loan to preserve jobs, homes, savings, the economy, the
shareholders of Bear, and the financial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In November 2007, Bear reported $288.5 billion in client accounts, and was selling the company for
$30 billion to JPMorgan. The value of Bear Stearns has yet to be determined. There is no real vauation
of their assets; therefore, there are no buyers who are willing to purchase Bear for cash. As of
November 30, 2007, according to the New York Times, Stearns had $46 billion on its books that
included mortgages, mortgage backed securities, and asset backed securities. They announced that the
annual report showed $29 billion of these assets were generated by a computer model. The other $17
billion were determined by estimates from internal company developed models. The means by which
Bear Stearns estimated their total assests were calculated gobally, this means that their estimates may
not be accurated due to the different financial and banking standards around the world . This implies
that hundreds of billions of dollars in asset backed securities may be fabricated capital (The Ediorial
Board 3).
Several factors could have affected our nation if the Federal Reserve did not step in and bail out Bear
Stearns. One factor is our economy. If half of the Bear Stearns employees were laid off, the
unemployment rate would increase and would affect the working class throughout the nation, and jobs
would become harder to

The Importance Of Listening As A Servant Leader
Discussion Following this further, we will discuss the remarks of various authors about the importance
of listening as a servant leader, as well as how it is effected by emotional intelligence. It is also
important that we compare and contrast the various viewpoints on this subject, before we answer the
research questions based on this literature.
Listening
First, we will review the literature from various authors on why listening is important as a servant
leader. As mentioned earlier, Spears (2002), illustrated how listening was a critical aspect of servant
leadership, and the first in his list of ten elements which were vital in regard to the development of
servant leaders (loc. 119). This identification as a crucial element of servant leadership, ... Show more

Emotional intelligence is a term that Daniel Goleman coined to describe a bundle of psychological
attributes that many strong and effective leaders exhibit (Hill, Jones, Schilling, 2014, p. 32). As
described by Hill et al. (2014), emotional intelligence incorporates self awareness, self regulation,
motivation, empathy, and social skills (p. 32). In contrast, Covey (2002) lists only empathy and
awareness as one of his ten characteristics of servant leaders. Daniel Goleman also goes on to mention
that leaders who have these traits are more successful than those who do not. In Goleman s view,
people respect leaders who, because they are self aware, recognize their own limitations and, because
they are self regulating, consider decisions carefully (Hill et al., 2014, p. 32). He goes on to describe
how motivation helps persuade others towards a leader s vision. Finally, strong empathy and social
skills can help leaders earn the loyalty of subordinates (Hill et al., 2014, p.

The Sun God And Hercules Masculinity In Hamlet
Due to the death of his father and the remarriage of his mother, Hamlet must now be subservient to his
Uncle Claudius, for whom he has no respect. In his soliloquy, Hamlet contrasts his late father with his
uncle like a Hyperion to a satyr, [...] My father s brother, but no more like my father than I to Hercules
(1.2.140 153). To Hamlet, both Hyperion (the Sun God) and Hercules (a demigod) represent the
epitome of strength. In the case of Hercules, he embodies the patriarchal ideal of masculinity violent,
dominant, and immortal. He promotes the image that men should be unfeeling, undoubting, and all
action and no words. This is the unattainable standard of masculinity that men in Hamlet s society is
subject to, since in order to be a Real Man , that would require him to to become a God. ... Show more

Instead of being bold and brash, he is thoughtful, sensitive, and emotional, which are typically traits
reserved for women. As a result, the way that others perceive his mental instability is derived from
how much he falls short of male social expectations. His exhibition of emotions deemed unfit for men,
such as pain and vulnerability, identifies him as a social outlier. This vulnerability is triggered by the
sudden death of his father, which he vocalizes at his uncle s coronation. Hamlet complains that he
wished the Everlasting had not fixed/ His canon gainst self slaughter! (1.2.131 132). In this scenario,
death equates inaction, since Hamlet cannot do anything if he kills himself. This contrasts the male
social expectations placed upon him, since he is expected to act on his father s behalf by taking
revenge on his enemies and inflicting outward damage. However, Hamlet chooses to direct his
frustrations inward, reflecting on his actions in long soliloquies and thinking about self harm and

The Impact Of Technology And Social Media On Youth
The Impacts of Technology and Social Media on the Youth Technology and Social Media have a huge
impact on the youth today. From cyber bullying, to not knowing how to communicate with people, to
self image, and to something as simple as not knowing how to read a map, are just some of the many
negative ways that social media and technology have impacted the youth. People have forgotten the
meaning and value of family, kids don t go outside and play anymore, and our faces are constantly
buried in our phones. Today s society needs to see that technology is affecting us in such negative
ways: emotionally, in our relationships, in education, in health and bullying. I have found that many
people today do not realize just how much technology affects a person. (Marlena Ramierz)
At such a young age, kids are given iPads, phones, and computers. You can go anywhere in public and
see several young kids with technology in their hands. It s a way for parents to keep their kids quite,
but at the same time, it s corrupting the youth at such a young age. It s giving kids a gateway to so
many opportunities at such a young age. While yes it is a way to keep your children quiet, what
happened to a coloring book and some crayons? What happened to kids playing outside, riding bikes,
running around? Have a pure imagination to keep busy with friends while now kids just sit inside on
video games and don t socialize with friends unless it s through texting or

It s A Christmas Classic, Charlie Brown !
It s a Christmas Classic, Charlie Brown!
A Charlie Brown Christmas is one of many prime time television specials based on the comic strip;
Peanuts , by Charles M. Schulz. The animated short film s plot revolves around our young, pessimistic
protagonist, Charlie Brown. It s the Christmas season, and everyone in his town is in a cheerful mood
and preparing for the upcoming holiday. However, Charlie Brown doesn t feel the same. He is unsure
of what the true meaning of Christmas is, and nobody seems to have a clear answer set out for him.
His feelings about the holiday remain bleak, until his friend, Lucy, suggests that he should try
directing their neighborhood Christmas play.
This particular special has obtained phenomenal praise from audiences and critics alike. It s even the
second longest running Christmas special of all time. Although, does this film really deserve the
attention and recognition it gets?
First of all, the time period and circumstances in the film industry is a key factor as to how this special
gained such a following. At the time, the production had an awfully rocky start. This was because

The Nursing Career
Nurses entering this specialty must highlight not only their clinical skills, but also their critical
thinking, advocacy and analytical abilities. Communities are dynamic, and nurses must adapt to and
be able to provide patients with whatever care is needed. (Meadows, 2009). The PHN uses clinical
knowledge along with an ecological viewpoint. A public health nurse can practice in clinics, health
departments, faith based organizations, mobile vans, homes, correctional facilities, occupations,
community centers and hospitals. There is no setting that a public health nurse cannot practice to
deliver a community focused intervention.
Delivering a successful intervention can be challenging but with learning competencies and skills, the
PHN can achieve results. At all times the focus must be on the health needs of an entire population
including imbalances and the unique needs of sub populations. A PHN must be analytical by defining
a problem and use data to determine an effective solution. A PHN must be able to communicate
effectively, and understand how the media delivers information.
Of great importance is the role of cultural competency in public health nursing. Cultural competency
is the ability to effectively consider the worldviews, healthcare practices and preferences of people
from diverse, racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. The PHN must put an emphasis
on prevention and focuses attention to multiple determinates of health. The skill of

Life and Work of John Bowlby
Bowlby was born in London to an upper middle class family. He was the fourth of six children and
was brought up by a nanny in the British fashion of his class at that time. His father, Sir Anthony
Bowlby, first Baronet, was surgeon to the King s Household, with a tragic history: at age five, Sir
Anthony s own father (John s grandfather) was killed while serving as a war correspondent in the
Opium Wars.
Normally, Bowlby saw his mother only one hour a day after teatime, though during the summer she
was more available. Like many other mothers of her social class, she considered that parental attention
and affection would lead to dangerous spoiling of the children. Bowlby was lucky in that the nanny in
his family was present throughout his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He focused on how attachment difficulties were transmitted from one generation to the next. In his
development of attachment theory he propounded the idea that attachment behaviour was essentially
an evolutionary survival strategy for protecting the infant from predators. Mary Ainsworth, a student
of Bowlby s, further extended and tested his ideas, and in fact played the primary role in suggesting
that several attachment styles existed. The three most important experiences for Bowlby s future work
and the development of attachment theory were his work with:
Maladapted and delinquent children.

Essay On Embryonic Stem Cells
Stem cells can become many different types. Later in life, stem cells also can replace worn out or
damaged cells. Embryonic stem cells can be grown relatively easily in culture. These cells come from
embryos that are three to five days old. Embryonic stem cells can become all cell types of the body
because they are pluripotent. These are pluripotent stem cells, meaning they can divide into more stem
cells or can become any type of cell in the body. Adult stem cells are thought to be limited to
differentiating into different cell types of their tissue of origin. Unlike embryonic stem cells, adult
stem cells cannot transform into any and every cell type. These stem cells have been identified in
many organs and tissues, including brain, bone marrow, peripheral blood, blood vessels, skeletal
muscle, skin, teeth, heart, gut, liver, ovarian epithelium, and testis. ... Show more content on

Regarding the research on human stem cells, the intention is important. Stem cell research treats
human beings as non humans is considered immoral. The hope going forward is that stem cells can
also be used as a renewable source of replacement cells and tissues to treat common and serious
diseases without the need for organ transplants or surgeries, including: macular degeneration, spinal
cord injury, stroke, burns, heart disease, diabetes. No end believed to be good. For example, although
every oak tree was once an acorn, it does not mean that acorns are oak trees or that we should treat the
loss of an acorn as the same kind of loss as the death of an oak tree. Up to embryonic day 14, the
blastocyst has no central nervous system and, therefore, cannot be considered sensate. Philosophers
differ on this question. Human embryos differ from other human beings not in what they are, but in

Isaac Newton Contributions
Isaac Newton, you may have heard about him. He changed our perception on the world in a way that
no one, during his time, could have imaged. But, his life wasn t easy. He went through many
tribulations and trials, most notably of which being the Black Plague. Isaac Newton also didn t have a
great childhood, his mother left him at a young age. He also had quite an interesting educational
career. But, as he was headed towards the end of his life; people realized that his impact in science and
math would be unmatchable. With so many different discoveries covering topics of mathematics to
optics, what is his most important discovery? In order to proceed, first we must cover Newton s
interesting life. Sir Isaac Newton was born the day the great astronomer Galileo died, an unbelievable
coincidence. It s like he was destined to become great. Sadly and very tragically, his father died three
months before his birth. But, his mother left him when he was three to live with her new rich husband;
Barnabas, who hated children. He was forced to live with his uncle, William Ayscough. Directly
because of this, he became independent at a very young age. This independence lead to a deep love for
books, specifically theological books. Then came his primary school studies, his uncle realizing his
potential moved him to King s School in Grantham. For four years he studied hard and came out on
the top of his school! But his mother s husband died. She pulled him out of school so he could help

The Effects Of Climate Change On The Ocean
The pacific islands are known for being especially beautiful and the image of relaxation; palm trees,
white sand beaches, smiling faces, and crystal blue water. When acknowledging this, it is hard to
imagine that the islands are currently dealing with the changing climate s negative effects. Climate
change is the largest environmental issue currently affecting the earth where humans are referred to as
frogs slowly cooking in a pot.[1] Despite the common knowledge that the earth s atmosphere is
heating to a dangerous level, humanity seems to be adapting to the changes in temperature, much like
a boiling frog would before it is much too late. The same could be said about the Pacific islands in that
they aren t receiving enough help to deal with the increasing heat. Although climate change affects the
earth as a whole, the Pacific Islands are more likely to feel its effects much quicker and are less likely
to be able to deal with them on their own. It is very important to understand the impact it has on the
people and their livelihoods, as well as the physical effects on the islands and their economy.
Being that more developed western countries don t feel the immediate effects of climate change such
as sea level rise and dangerous weather changes, their feelings towards its toll on the Pacific Islands
are not often considered. Despite this, there are organisations dedicated to helping the islands in many
ways including preparations for the future. It is not the help the

Harry Potter Hero Essay

become more frequent and more deadly. This is when Albus Dumbledore, the famous Headmaster of
Hogwarts, teaches, instructs, and guides Harry to his ultimate goal of defeating Lord Voldemort,
finally bringing peace to their world once again. In relation to the Jungian Literary Archetypes, Harry
Potter represents the Hero, Albus Dumbledore represents the Wise Old Man, and Lord Voldemort
represents the Witch or Sorceress.

Interpersonal communication is the technique we use to communicate our ideas, thoughts and feelings
to one and other. (Eunson 2012:256) People use visual, written, oral, sense and nonverbal means to

letters, telephone, groups with public speaking and one to one conversations. With the introduction of

The Culture Of America By Mark Seltzer
In today s society, Americans have been given choices. Choices to do and say what they want.
Although given these choices, Americans would rather designate themselves to take a role as a
spectator rather than being directly involved in a threatening situation. But why does one want to
witness such an image to begin with? This form of fascination can be attributed to the publicizing of
violent crimes by many outlets of media such as newspapers, televisions, and other sources readily
available to the public. The convening of the public around violent scenes has come to make up what
author Mark Seltzer characterizes as a wound culture, which he outlines as the public fascination with
torn and open bodies and torn and opened persons, a collective gathering around shock, trauma, and
the wound (1). Given the enormous volume of crime stories and scenes in today s media, it is
confident to say that the public has become fascinated. The culture of America is drawn to trauma,
which is a Greek word for wound. ( Trauma ) In the turning of the twentieth century, the superstar of
the wound culture emerged: the serial killer. The fascination with this new founded celebrity haunts
and excites the community. These famous killers are intriguing and raise complex questions of why
people do what they do. Therefore, serial killers are molded by family experiences, the oedipal
complex, and the fear of abandonment.

The wicked problem of the gender wage gap s presence in the United States workforce is highly
debated. Because the issue is often intangible and so complex in nature, the causes of the wage gap are
often difficult to pinpoint and wholly address. In nearly almost every occupation women earn less than
their male counterparts. Over their lifetimes men will be paid more than women (Institute for Women
s Policy Research, 2017). There are various contributions to income gap seen between women and

consequences for women. Additionally, if the income disparities continue, it could allow for another

there is debate whether this issue exists in American society. Moreover, there are long lasting
impressions of what society thinks is normal and common practice. If policymakers and government
are not willing to confront the problem, society will continue to deny the problem. Furthermore,
obstinate inequality in income has significant economic consequences that extend to other issues that
are often disproportionately affect women, such as higher poverty rates among women, retirement,

The Rivalry Between Boeing and Airbus Essay
The Rivalry Between Boeing and Airbus The rivalry between Boeing and Airbus goes back a long
way, when Boeing was by far the dominant supplier of commercial airplanes. Up until 1997, Boeing
was the clear market leader on the passenger airplane market. Now the situation is less certain, as
Airbus has overtaken its American competitor[1] not only in the domestic market but also in the world
market, with its introduction of new models of passenger aircrafts. The main issue addressed in this
article is that a 1992 U.S. EU civilian aircraft pact allows too much European government support for
Airbus, helping it sell more jetliners than Boeing, which had an 80% share in the market a decade ago.
Thus the U.S. government wants the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The effect of providing the subsidy to Airbus would be a shift in the domestic supply curve to the right
(as the subsidy is so much per unit produced) to Sdom + Subsidy. Airbus receives the world price Pw,
plus the subsidy, which is the vertical distance AD. They receive a subsidy PwPsubAD. Hence,
although the domestic price will remain unchanged, the domestic production of Airbus will increase to
Q3. Therefore there has been a transfer in the quantity supplied from imports to domestic producers,
which is marked by the region Q3 Q1. The protectionist measures have not only helped Airbus to
establish itself and gain a comparative advantage through increased production, but it has also helped
to increase employment, which leads to an increase in the standard of living of the citizens and thus
lead to economic growth in the E.U. Since 1997 Airbus has had several advantages in the production
of aircrafts. Since their goods are still being subsidized, Airbus has expanded its sales from the home
market to the overseas market. Thus, their quality products and subsidies together would enable them
to resort to dumping (selling exports below their marginal costs of production) their products into the
world market, at the cost of their main competitor Boeing. The argument posted by John Veroneau,
general counsel for the U.S. Trade Representative s office is that the 1992 civil aircraft

Logan Feys states, To be human is to be an individual human, with individual tastes, talents, values,
and aspirations that are distinct from those of others. Living in society, we are under constant pressure
to surrender our individuality to the will of the majority, the school, the workplace, the family, etc.
Everyone is their own unique person, with a different personality than the next, and at the end of the
day it is your personal option to display or hide your own individuality when around others. Overall,
Feys claims that society holds a heavy cloud over everyone s head that pressures them to submit their
own personality, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Feys, Society looks down upon freakish and extraordinary individuals alike and views
them with suspicion. Ordinary people fear what they don t understand (p 4) . No matter what you do
or say, society will always have its own judgement, and looking for its approval won t help in the long
run. If you are content with yourself and embrace who you are as an individual, someone will always
accept and love you for who you are. All things considered, I have found myself completely agreeing
with Logan Feys and his views on individuality and the statement of breaking free of society s
shackles in order to be who you are freely. In the long run, doing so will provide you the opportunity
to be genuinely happy, embrace your individuality, and lastly think for yourself. It is important to learn
to take advantage of the choices and opportunities that life has handed you; to learn to control your
own life and not let society do it for

Environmental Degradation and Its Effect on Indian Economy

ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION AND ITS EFFECT ON INDIAN ECONOMY
The environmental problems in India are growing rapidly. The increasing economic development and
a rapidly growing population that has taken the country from 300 million people in 1947 to more than
one billion people today is putting a strain on the environment, infrastructure, and the country s
natural resources. Industrial pollution, soil erosion, deforestation, rapid industrialization, urbanization,

Nearly 12 million hectares of pasturelands are also substantially degraded. Thus, a total of 132 million
hectares representing 40 per cent of the country s total landmass have productivity well below their
potential (Tejwani Yadav, 1998).
Causes of land degradation
The main causes of land degradation are deforestation, ignorance of soil conservation practices,
extension of cultivation to marginal lands, improper crop rotation, imbalanced fertiliser use, surface
irrigation ironically designed to increase land productivity, rapid growth in population, paucity of
land, economic pressures and poverty.
Air Pollution The World Health Organization estimates that about two million people die prematurely
every year as a result of air pollution, while many more suffer from breathing ailments, heart disease,
lung infections and even cancer.Fine particles or microscopic dust from coal or wood fires and
unfiltered diesel engines are rated as one of the most lethal forms or air pollution caused by industry,
transport, household heating, cooking and ageing coal or oil fired power stations. There are four
reasons of air pollution are emissions from vehicles, thermal power plants, industries and refineries.
The problem of indoor air pollution in rural areas and urban slums has increased. A latest example

Public Governance And Internal Control
1.0 Introduction Charities in the UK and in general have come through a lot of criticisms from
external stakeholders on the state of their ineffective accountability and transparency, which portrays
that charities do not comply with effective corporate governance and internal control (CG+IC) in
order to improve their performance and credibility. The research will pinpoint the inadequacies of
CG+IC, then evaluate how when applied effectively could contribute to charities performance and aid
credibility, which would in turn improve their income level. In order to achieve these, charities should
be prepared to undergo changes and put in place controls that would support this reality. Charities are

Charities have been involved in some areas previously envisaged as the state s responsibility, in so
doing, have created an active partnership with the government. This brought about a new wave of
change, from previously, when many of the earliest founded charities were funded by religious groups,
the nobility, or wealthy individuals, to help the neediest members of society. Presently, charitable
activities and jurisdiction in the provision of a wide range of services are funded mostly by the state
and the public. Some charities receive more funding from the state than from private donors, (Brindle
2001); for example, The Children s Society, UNICEF UK, and Save the Children, (mainly due to the
purpose of their charitable activities). The consequences of this partnership have caused the traditional
boundaries in the public, private and voluntary sectors to eventually dissipate (Blair, 2006). In the
current economic ambience, many non profit organisations (NPO) are facing funding cuts, as well as
reduced voluntary donations. Others are facing reductions in income, whilst the demand for their
services continues to grow (Cornforth, 2012). As such, due to governmental and public donors support
received by charities, there have been

King Lear Relationship Essay
King Lear reveals a lot about relationships and how messy than can be in familial ties. Hatred,
deception, abuse, being power hungry, and abandonment can all lead to breaking family ties that were
once strong or could have been strong and can help lead to a demise of the mind, spirit, and body.
Many of the actors throughout King Lear made huge choices that defined their characters and their
relationships, rounding them out to be human. Meanwhile, Anthony Sher who played King Lear
seemed to lack connection in these relationships except for when he was abusing Goneril. Therefore,
the relationships that Sher was supposed to foster were not as strong as they could have been. Paapa
Essiedu, who played Edmund, made the character complex through his relationships with his family
and the audience. When with his father and brother, he was sincere and played into being the
trustworthy brother and son. Essiedu created a veil for his father in order to gain his trust before he
tried to take over the kingdom. In juxtaposition, his relationship with the audience was the core of
Edmund. Essiedu contrasted lines of murder and revenge with a lightness in tone, making the lines
quite comedic. Using the rationalized text he as Edmund created a firm argument as to why he was ...

The Scottish Referendum For Independence
Abstract
The question I seek to answer in this essay is whether the Scottish Referendum for Independence from
18th September 2014 (hereafter referred as the 2014 Referendum ) was indeed a process that can give
account to legitimacy. This essay will look at legitimacy as being a moral claim set by our own
culture. It will also explore the meaning of overall legitimacy of the 2014 Referendum and if
individual claims of citizens are in conflict with it. Furthermore, it will argued that the political
discourse of Alex Salmond and of the Scottish National Party as a whole, was detrimental to the
Scottish civil society as it facilitated its division.
Scope of the question and its delimitation
This essay will solely give an account of the relatively of the 2014 Referendum s legitimacy and will
show that through non relative arguments coming from the SNP political discourse, the overall
legitimacy of the 2014 Referendum provides a prescriptive account on the devolution in so far. A
notion that will not be addressed by this essay is represented by the impact of the Scottish referendum
for independence on countries such as Spain and the states from the former Republic of Yugoslavia.
Disposition of the essay
In what follows a background of the referendum will be presented. Afterwards, it shall be argued that
the entire process for establishing the 2014 Referendum cannot be seen as a democratic one, as it is
was induced by the Yes Campaign consequently is logically flawed.

This job gave Snowden a top secret clearance and greater access to surveillance secrets than he

The Scientific Dreamland Of Francis Bacon s New Atlantis...
The differences between the scientific dreamland of Francis Bacon s New Atlantis and the lawless
egalitarians occupied Thomas More s Utopia. A housed exceptional scientific institute that produced
submarines, microscopes, delicate medicines, and a configuration of genetic engineering. Europeans
detected extraordinary islands with colonies so astounding they provoked an extreme debate over
many basic Old World beliefs and customs. Not only had the citizens of Utopia removed all laws, they
accepted an immense field of religious beliefs, they acknowledged women to be priest, and were so
impassive by riches that they relaxed themselves in gold chamber filled with pots, mocking anyone
who considered the worthless metal valuable. Francis Bacon conceived his individual idea of a
Utopia, The New Atlantis, which was published in 1627. One institution outshines all others in the
New Atlantis, particularly Salomon s House, which is, a scientific society: its fellows absolutely apply
themselves to the experimentation of the system of nature and the augmentation of philosophy. New
Atlantis is a symbol of improvement, of the confidence in science and technology, that was implied to
lead to human ability over nature. The fantasy introduces a Greek myth about an optimal community
that sank into the sea. Bacon s names in The New Atlantis echo more of an absolute confirmation than
the particular of Thomas More. Bensalem implies son or descendant of safety, completeness, and
peace.

Relationship Between Low Income And Poor Health
In their article Evidence on the Relationship between Low Income and Poor Health: Is the
Government Doing Enough? Benzeval et al. (2000) of the Institute for Fiscal studies, they describe
their findings of research they found doing a study conducted in two British longitudinal datasets to
examine the longer term influences of income on health within a life course perspective . They dive
into the findings of questions such as what roles does childhood poverty play in...acquisition of health
capital? In their findings they discuss that childhood poverty is strongly related to both educational
and health attainment (389). While their article does go on to explain the longitudinal studies

that income and health might be jointly determined by the same prior experiences or characteristics .
Which to be able to understand any correlation it is necessary to know the individual s circumstances
in childhood and not just their adult life. Their findings focus on the role of health status and

Importance Of Violent Conflict Is Unethical
In some instances, but very few, violent conflict can be considered ethical. Even in these situations,
violent conflict is only considered ethical to an extent. Times when violent conflict can be considered
ethical are: self defense and revenge. Self defense is only ethical to an extent because at some point it
is no longer self defense. Revenge is only ethical when it is absolutely necessary, and and at some
point it can no longer be considered ethical because it just turns to violence. One instance where
violent conflict can be deemed ethical is a situation where your entire family has been kidnapped
and/or killed by someone or a group of people. Another instance would be if an entire country is being
attacked by another country, and all or most of its citizens are killed, when there was no true
declaration of war. Other than these two possibilities, violent conflict cannot be considered ethical.
Violent conflict is considered unethical because of the inhumane trauma it causes to people. An
example of traumatic violence would be the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan through the
use of nuclear weapons. Even though these bombings might have been necessary at the time, does not
mean they were an ethical decision.
A clear representation of how unethical it is to use nuclear weapons is described in John Hersey s
book Hiroshima, specifically in the chapter called The Fire . Hersey describes the horrific view that
Mr. Tanimoto had to live through after the bombing.

How Does Billy Pilgrim Use Satire In Catch 22
How does one know they are right? Does one viewpoint inherently have more value than another?
Unconventional viewpoints towards war are often portrayed in classic literature from the perspective
of its soldiers. Kurt Vonnegut, in his novel Slaughterhouse Five, writes the story of Billy Pilgrim, a
WWII veteran with PTSD who lives his life stuck in time . Throughout the non chronological course
of the novel, Pilgrim questions his faith and purpose and eventually becomes trapped in his own
fantastical reality as an attempt to escape his horrific memories of the war. Yossarian, in Joseph Heller
s Catch 22, also relies on escapism to make it through his own experience in WWII. After a series of
traumatic events leads to many of his comrades dying, he runs from the war and escapes to Sweden.
His lack of faith in religion, his superiors, and purpose of the war leads to Yossarian s escape to
Sweden, a country free of American influence. Pilgrim and Yossarian s integrity and sanity is
consistently questionable, as well as their sanity during and after the war. Vonnegut and Heller both

When Salinger attended McBurney School, he tried to conform so he can fit (one way was calling
himself Jerry). While at this school, he also acted in plays and wrote the school s newspaper. This is
shown through Holden as he doesn t try to conform (which could be representing Salinger s regret to
try and conform), hates phoniness (as acting as a character [for example: in a play] is considered being
phony), and likes writing (as shown in the beginning of chapter one as he tells the audience his story
and how he admires his writer brother, D.B.). Salinger himself stated, My boyhood was very much the
same as that of the boy in the book, and it was a great relief telling people about it (interview by

The Impact Of The 20th Century On German Literature
One of the few things that impacted literary movements in German literature in the 20th century was
Expressionism and what the Germans refer to as Neue Sachlichkeit , which means new objectivity
(Scherer, Conybeare Müller, 1906). However, historical events such as the first world war led to the
division of the nation into west and east Germany. Therefore, the historical impact on literature differs
in both sections. While the east reckoned with the teaching of Hungary philosopher Georg Lukacs,
declaring themselves as the communist resistance of Nazism , which led to the birth of Socialist
Realism (Bahr, Ryan, Jaeger, 2015), the political situation in the west paved the way for writers such
as Bertolt Brecht, who through their work felt the need to fill the cultural vacuum created by the defeat
of Nazism.
The following essay will therefore discuss the impact of the 20th century on German speaking
literature, after which it will analyse the responses of Bertolt Brecht and GĂźnter Eich to the historical
and political events.
Bertolt Brecht in response to the first world war, which he experienced as a teenager wrote an essay to
the phrase Dulce et decorum est pro patria morin , a poet by the Roman Horace, which almost ruined
his pursuit for education at the time (Bertolt Brecht, 2017). In his essay, he described the recruitment
of young soldiers under the disguise of dying for their country as a cheap propaganda for a specific

The Current Product Development Process
Secondly, the current product development process needs a timely interaction among different
departments in order to detect problems in a relatively early period of the process; the traditional
approach would not meet this needs (Yelkur et al., 1996). Thus, the new product development team is
required to be made up of members from different background, such as engineering, marketing, and
management, so that they may work closely in introducing new products. As a result, the democratic
atmosphere of the work place is crucial for the process. Amabile (1998) and Amabile et al. (1999)
argue that freedom in processes promotes their motivation and helps employees make the most of their

Analysis Of The Article Gop Fox Circus Act By Reed...
In the article GOP Fox Circus Act , Reed Richardson argues that although both the GOP and Fox have
conservative political values, they are ultimately harmful to each other s agendas because of their
differing political goals. Both organizations are lacking popularity in recent years so they are
struggling to find new ways to gain an audience. The GOP wants to find a way to get their ideas to a
wide variety of people, whereas Fox is promoting more liberal views to increase the ratings of their
programs. On one hand, the GOP s reputation is hurt by the inaccuracy of Fox s reporting. On the
other hand, Fox is tied down by the conservative views of the GOP, thus restraining Fox from gaining
a larger audience. Journalist Reed Richardson wrote this article for The National, a liberal newspaper,
in 2013, so the events and issues that he is speaking of are still relevant to this day. Due to the
differences of political views between the author and the subject matter, there is plenty of room for
biased statements and opinions. Does Richardson provide enough evidence of the harmful effects of
the Fox and GOP relationship? Richardson clearly and meticulously establishes the problems that both
organizations face in the pursuit of their political goals with the use of statistics, reliable sources, and
thorough evaluation of events; however Richardson constantly provides the reader with a biased

Persuasive Essay On Pedestrians
Walk Your Wheels: The Danger of Bicycles in Pedestrian Sidewalks
I glance down at my phone for a moment and I realize that my 15 minute margin of travel time to race
across campus to my class is dwindling; I look up only to find an individual on a bicycle hurdling
toward me, clearly, incapable of stopping in time, I scramble out of the way in an attempt to save
myself from becoming roadkill. This is a common occurrence for student pedestrians on their way to
class given the increasing number of bicyclists and skateboarders that refrain from following
university transportation laws, however, instead of criminalizing the act of using these modes of
transportation on pedestrian sidewalks the university should make it safer and more efficient for these
individuals to share the roads with cars by installing bicycle lanes. This issue is important to all
campus residents, since the incorrect use of transportation could jeopardize their safety and should be
carefully considered in order to prevent accidents. This proposal argument will aim at persuading
university officials, specifically those in charge of the university transportation services, to reconsider
their handling of bicycle and other non motorized transportation rules and safety on campus. There are

Judge Haselton s Case Summary
In May of 1998, Kipland Kinkel brought a gun to his school. Over the course of two days this
escalated from: being sent home, to murdering his father and mother, to murdering 2 students and
wounding 26, earning a lifetime sentence of 111 years and 8 months in prison. In the court case being
examined, the presiding judge addresses the original case, defendants ground for appeal, and the
justification for the State s decision to deny the appeal. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos, logos,
and pathos to support the Higher Court s decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was
constitutional and just. Summary In State of Oregon v. Kipland Kinkel, Judge Haselton summarizes
the decision to deny Kinkel s appeal of his sentencing. Kinkel was sentenced by the Lower Court to
111 years and 8 months for the confession of 4 murders and 25 accounts of attempted murder. Several
medical personal and parents testified against Kinkel at the hearing stating that, he is and remains

unusual and that the protection of society was considered more than reformation. The higher court
denied it was cruel and unusual because it did not shock the conscience. The presiding judge also

Overall, I liked the film and the why it addressed the characters
problems which is a real issues people face. Even though, when I left i felt super mentally
exhausted and depressed not because it s such a high characters drama but to see these issues
existing. But this is what the film made to be, so I think it succeeded in what it meant to
be.
After listening to Garrett Bradley s Q A, I ve learned that whatever technique you think it
will help your story the best and you have thought of it you should do it despising the narrative.
Also to do whatever it takes to make your story real and to not be shy to express yourself in the
way you want. One of the other things that was inspiring in her answers was the fact that she
made this film with canon 5D in 16 shooting days with seven people. So it s not about what
gears and equipment or number of people do you have it s about how much do you believe in
your story and why you think this story should be out here to the world to see. I really appreciate
and liked the film and her effort to make it as a student. It was such a good, different, inspiring in
every aspect. The only thing that I wish that was better is the attendance. The Theater

The Big Man And Chiefdom Societies In New Guinea
In the big man and chiefdom societies, gift giving is sometimes used as a means of attack to gain
personal prestige. The Kwakiutl are a prime example as well as various groups in New Guinea.
According to the lecture notes, the way it works is the citizens of the Big Man societies come and pay
their debt to their leader, then are invited to a huge feast in which the leader gives all that he has
received away to everyone, rich or poor. He becomes known as a generous leader and gains respect
and admiration from his followers. The Big Man societies follow the rule that the more prestige you
gain, the higher your political power and status will be. The chiefdoms, however, do not follow this
rule. Instead, they follow a ranked system based on the

Medusa Essay
Medusa was a victim and not a villan. Medusa was not born an ugly, cruel lady with snakes as hair
and eyes that turned people into stone, she was cursed. Even worse, Medusa was not punished for her
own wrong doing. Medusa s life was completely changed after something horrific happened to her. In
this story, Medusa is not the villian, nor the monster many see her as today. Medusa was a girl who
was missunderstood.
Before Medusa became cursed, she was a normal woman who lived in Athens, Greece. She was a very
beautiful women and she was aware of that. Medusa was quit a narsissist. She was also Athena s
priestess. Athena was the goddess of wisdom and war. One requirment to be Athena s priestess was to
be a virgin. Although, one day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only were her looks affected, but she is completely cut off from everyone. Everyone she once
knew. She could not look at anyone without turning them into stone. Medusa was issolated to an
island where she would be alone. Nobody would want to be with her. Medusa was cursed with deadly
snakes as hair. Medusa lost everything, as the result of being raped. In the film, Medusa completely
transformed and her entire life was changed. She was afraid and sad. She was now considered a
monster and everyone fears her. Athena should not have been so harsh on Medusa. Athena felt
betrayed, but it was not Medusa s fault that she was raped. Medusa s whole life was now changed
forever. In the film, it showed Medusa being alone on her island and people coming to try to chop her
head off. Medusa was not a monster. She cannot help but look at people, and what would one expect
her to do when she is being attacked for her head. Medusa s name is occasionaly used to scare
children into things. Such as cleaning their room or finsihing their plate. The child s parents might tell
them that Medusa will get him/her if they do not do what the parents want them to. Medusa was not a
villian, she was cursed, not evil at heart.
Medusa was a murder victim. Medusa s head was looked at as a treaured item, her eyes would turn
people into stone. Perseus, Zeus s son, a Greek hero, and a monster slayer was sent on a mission.
Perseus mission was to chop Medusa s head off to use her eyes to

Shattered Glass Essay
Shattered Glass by Billy Ray Have you ever wondered how it would feel to lose your career?
Shattered Glass is a true story of a young journalist who fell from grace when it was found he had
fabricated over half of his articles. He was a staff writer at The New Republic for three years who rose
to meteoric heights as a young writer in Washington, D.C. Looking for a short cut to fame, Glass
combined sources, quotes, and even entire stories. He did everything in his power to make sure that
everyone is pleased by him so that they do not figure him out. In the movie Shattered Glass, director
Billy Ray adroitly shows how Stephen Glass is willing to lie just to further his career as a journalist.
Stephen Glass is a very interesting character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie also introduces his co workers and show how much they adore Stephen. Stephen writes a
paper on Spring Breakdown which he describes to the journalists classroom. Editor Michael Kelly
questions Glass about some of the facts in this story. In particular, the fact that the hotel had a mini bar
is questioned. Kelly requests Glass s notes so that it can be fact checked again. Glass then claims to
have consulted his notes and realized that he made a mistake in his story. He corrects himself stating
that the minibar was not part of the hotel room, it was a rental. He offers to resign but Kelly dismisses
the mistake as trivial and refuses Glass s resignation. Even so, Kelly makes a phone call to the hotel to
confirm that mini bar rentals are available. Glass gets away with another one of his fabrications.
Towards the end of the movie, Glass makes up a story completely. He thinks he can get away with
another one, but does not realize that an online magazine found some of his facts as interesting as not
being real. They found out that his sources are fake. All of his notes and descriptions of the people
neither the company are imaginations. Glass makes it so believable for the audience to think that the
story exists that he takes over the audience s imagination. Stephen Glass gets fact checked over and
over by many different people untill they realize that his story and facts do not even excist. It takes
him a long time, but he finally admits that he lied in

Decision Making at Google
Decision Making at Google Inc.
Data
Google defines itself as a non conventional company which intentionally avoids the traditional
management models. Google has been managed differently in an atmosphere of creativity and
challenge. That said by Eric Schmidt, CEO, who also affirms that the business is driven according
what Peter Drucker understood as a way to manage the knowledge workers in 1959. The idea was first
described in his book The Landmarks of Tomorrow .
We know now that the source of wealth is something specifically human: knowledge. If we apply
knowledge to tasks we already know how to do, we call it productivity . If we apply knowledge to
tasks that are new and different we call it innovation . Only knowledge allows us ... Show more

By principle number 7 Strive to reach consensus ; Google stick on the view that the many are smarter
than the few and solicit a broad base of views before reaching any decision. The role of the manager is
that of an aggregator of viewpoints, not the dictator of decisions.
Principle number 8 is also the corporate slogan: Don t be evil . Schmidt, co founder and CEO says that
the company really tries to live by it, particularly in the ranks of management. Google fosters to create
an atmosphere of tolerance and respect, not a company full of yes men.
Google faces the challenge of evolving management techniques as the company grows. As decision
making pervades all managerial actions and is a continuous process, Google practices characterize the
strategic decision making process of the company. In this new model, the decision making process is
guided by a powerful coalition acting as a team and also permits decisions to evolve through trial and
error and incremental steps as needed, as Daft mentions (2007, p.299). Daft also affirms that this new
process relies less on hard data as a basis of good decisions. This statement differs from what Goggle
practices as mentioned on principle 9.
The 9th principle applies the company knowledge to support decision making: Data drive decisions .
At Google, almost every decision is based on quantitative analysis. Google uses its systems to manage
information not only on the Internet, but internally also. The corporation employs

Deaf Ethnic Groups
In the article should the Deaf Be Considered an Ethnic Group? By Susan Seligson the author
examines the attitudes towards the deaf community and their classification in society. The author
claims that the deaf community has major hurdles to over come to become a ethnic group including
the medical industries affection toward technology like cochlear implants which are usually implanted
into infants who may have hearing difficulties with doctors medical advice. Seligson maintains the
belief in which these implants are actually harmful to children because they can only marginally hear
which effects the socialization of the child because the child has to try to hear with these implants

Pillard also states that a major issue with making deaf people a ethnic group is the rise for technology
in the medical field the advancement of implants helps children hear on a 24 channel tonal platform
which can differentiate the persons voice register for the user Pillard believes that doctors are pushing
these on the parents of these patients for profit with only one side of the story. He states that the
implants are dangerous for the users because they only work so well with the users when the user has
to concentrate on what person is say this puts a unnecessary barrier for the user if the person can not
socialize with these implants which is more of a disability someone who is fully deaf but can
communicate through sign and participate in their surroundings or is the person with the implant who

The Most Notable Irish Politicians Of The 19th Century And...
John Dillon is one of the most notable Irish politicians of the later 19th century and early 20th century.
He was an avid home rule advocate, a leader in the Irish Parliamentary Party, and a devout follower of
Charles Parnell. He was jailed several times for his political activity within the home rule cause. In
May of 1881, he wrote this letter out of Kilmainham Gaol, where he was imprisoned. One of the first
notable things seen is the actual stationary, which is has black edges. Black edged stationery was
mostly used for mourning stationary during the Victorian era. It was used when a family member died.
Dillon s sister Christina had died from tuberculosis in December 1880, prompting him to use the black
edge stationary. Dillon wrote the letter in Kilmainham Gaol, located in Dublin. It was opened in 1796,
and was used to house political prisoners, as well as others. Notable prisoners held here were Dillon,
Dillon s mentor Charles Stewart Parnell, Robert Emmet, The Invincibles, along with other Home Rule
advocates and independence seekers. It was abandoned in 1924 due to aging infrastructure. Interest in
its refurbishment began in 1966. Today, the gaol serves as a museum open to the public, operated by
the Irish Office of Public Works.
The letter was written on of May 30th, 1881, and was addressed to Cowen. This can be presumed to
be Joseph Cowen, who was an English member of Parliament for Newcastle upon Tyne from 1874
until 1886. Cowen was a member of the Liberal Party,

History will call the Fed s action the right move at the right time , says Jeremy Siegel, Ph.D. The Bear Stearns Company began a financial meltdown in July 2007. By March 2008, it was ready to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Some people believe that the Federal Reserve should not have stepped in to bailout Bear Stearns because it was rewarding reckless business behavior and Bear should have been left to file bankruptcy. The deal of Bear Stearns was not a government bailout; it was rather a loan to preserve jobs, homes, savings, the economy, the shareholders of Bear, and the financial ... The value of Bear Stearns has yet to be determined. There is no real vauation of their assets; therefore, there are no buyers who are willing to purchase Bear for cash. As of November 30, 2007, according to the New York Times, Stearns had $46 billion on its books that included mortgages, mortgage backed securities, and asset backed securities. They announced that the annual report showed $29 billion of these assets were generated by a computer model. The other $17 billion were determined by estimates from internal company developed models. The means by which Bear Stearns estimated their total assests were calculated gobally, this means that their estimates may not be accurated due to the different financial and banking standards around the world . This implies that hundreds of billions of dollars in asset backed securities may be fabricated capital (The Ediorial Board 3). The Importance Of Listening As A Servant Leader Discussion Following this further, we will discuss the remarks of various authors about the importance of listening as a servant leader, as well as how it is effected by emotional intelligence. It is also important that we compare and contrast the various viewpoints on this subject, before we answer the research questions based on this literature. Listening First, we will review the literature from various authors on why listening is important as a servant leader. As mentioned earlier, Spears (2002), illustrated how listening was a critical aspect of servant leadership, and the first in his list of ten elements which were vital in regard to the development of servant leaders (loc. 119). Emotional intelligence is a term that Daniel Goleman coined to describe a bundle of psychological attributes that many strong and effective leaders exhibit (Hill, Jones, Schilling, 2014, p. 32). As described by Hill et al. (2014), emotional intelligence incorporates self awareness, self regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills (p. 32). In contrast, Covey (2002) lists only empathy and awareness as one of his ten characteristics of servant leaders. Daniel Goleman also goes on to mention that leaders who have these traits are more successful than those who do not. In Goleman s view, people respect leaders who, because they are self aware, recognize their own limitations and, because they are self regulating, consider decisions carefully (Hill et al., 2014, p. 32). He goes on to describe how motivation helps persuade others towards a leader s vision. The Sun God And Hercules Masculinity In Hamlet Due to the death of his father and the remarriage of his mother, Hamlet must now be subservient to his Uncle Claudius, for whom he has no respect. In his soliloquy, Hamlet contrasts his late father with his uncle like a Hyperion to a satyr, [...] My father s brother, but no more like my father than I to Hercules (1.2.140 153). To Hamlet, both Hyperion (the Sun God) and Hercules (a demigod) represent the epitome of strength. In the case of Hercules, he embodies the patriarchal ideal of masculinity violent, dominant, and immortal. He promotes the image that men should be unfeeling, undoubting, and all action and no words. This vulnerability is triggered by the sudden death of his father, which he vocalizes at his uncle s coronation. Hamlet complains that he wished the Everlasting had not fixed/ His canon gainst self slaughter! (1.2.131 132). In this scenario, death equates inaction, since Hamlet cannot do anything if he kills himself. This contrasts the male social expectations placed upon him, since he is expected to act on his father s behalf by taking revenge on his enemies and inflicting outward damage. From cyber bullying, to not knowing how to communicate with people, to self image, and to something as simple as not knowing how to read a map, are just some of the many negative ways that social media and technology have impacted the youth. People have forgotten the meaning and value of family, kids don t go outside and play anymore, and our faces are constantly buried in our phones. Today s society needs to see that technology is affecting us in such negative ways: emotionally, in our relationships, in education, in health and bullying. I have found that many people today do not realize just how much technology affects a person. (Marlena Ramierz) At such a young age, kids are given iPads, phones, and computers. You can go anywhere in public and see several young kids with technology in their hands. It s a way for parents to keep their kids quite, but at the same time, it s corrupting the youth at such a young age. It s giving kids a gateway to so many opportunities at such a young age. While yes it is a way to keep your children quiet, what happened to a coloring book and some crayons? What happened to kids playing outside, riding bikes, running around? • 11. Essay On Embryonic Stem Cells Stem cells can become many different types. Later in life, stem cells also can replace worn out or damaged cells. Embryonic stem cells can be grown relatively easily in culture. These cells come from embryos that are three to five days old. Embryonic stem cells can become all cell types of the body because they are pluripotent. These are pluripotent stem cells, meaning they can divide into more stem cells or can become any type of cell in the body. Adult stem cells are thought to be limited to differentiating into different cell types of their tissue of origin. Unlike embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells cannot transform into any and every cell type. The Effects Of Climate Change On The Ocean The pacific islands are known for being especially beautiful and the image of relaxation; palm trees, white sand beaches, smiling faces, and crystal blue water. When acknowledging this, it is hard to imagine that the islands are currently dealing with the changing climate s negative effects. Climate change is the largest environmental issue currently affecting the earth where humans are referred to as frogs slowly cooking in a pot.[1] Despite the common knowledge that the earth s atmosphere is heating to a dangerous level, humanity seems to be adapting to the changes in temperature, much like a boiling frog would before it is much too late. The same could be said about the Pacific islands in that they aren t receiving enough help to deal with the increasing heat. Although climate change affects the earth as a whole, the Pacific Islands are more likely to feel its effects much quicker and are less likely to be able to deal with them on their own. It is very important to understand the impact it has on the people and their livelihoods, as well as the physical effects on the islands and their economy. Being that more developed western countries don t feel the immediate effects of climate change such as sea level rise and dangerous weather changes, their feelings towards its toll on the Pacific Islands are not often considered. Although given these choices, Americans would rather designate themselves to take a role as a spectator rather than being directly involved in a threatening situation. But why does one want to witness such an image to begin with? This form of fascination can be attributed to the publicizing of violent crimes by many outlets of media such as newspapers, televisions, and other sources readily available to the public. The convening of the public around violent scenes has come to make up what author Mark Seltzer characterizes as a wound culture, which he outlines as the public fascination with torn and open bodies and torn and opened persons, a collective gathering around shock, trauma, and the wound (1). Given the enormous volume of crime stories and scenes in today s media, it is confident to say that the public has become fascinated. The culture of America is drawn to trauma, which is a Greek word for wound. ( Trauma ) In the turning of the twentieth century, the superstar of the wound culture emerged: the serial killer. The fascination with this new founded celebrity haunts and excites the community. These famous killers are intriguing and raise complex questions of why people do what they do. Therefore, serial killers are molded by family experiences, the oedipal complex, and the fear of abandonment. The early stage of life, the childhood years, is the most important stage of a ... • 20. The Rivalry Between Boeing and Airbus Essay The Rivalry Between Boeing and Airbus The rivalry between Boeing and Airbus goes back a long way, when Boeing was by far the dominant supplier of commercial airplanes. Up until 1997, Boeing was the clear market leader on the passenger airplane market. Now the situation is less certain, as Airbus has overtaken its American competitor[1] not only in the domestic market but also in the world market, with its introduction of new models of passenger aircrafts. The main issue addressed in this article is that a 1992 U.S. EU civilian aircraft pact allows too much European government support for Airbus, helping it sell more jetliners than Boeing, which had an 80% share in the market a decade ago. Thus the U.S. government wants the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, although the domestic price will remain unchanged, the domestic production of Airbus will increase to Q3. Therefore there has been a transfer in the quantity supplied from imports to domestic producers, which is marked by the region Q3 Q1. The protectionist measures have not only helped Airbus to establish itself and gain a comparative advantage through increased production, but it has also helped to increase employment, which leads to an increase in the standard of living of the citizens and thus lead to economic growth in the E.U. Since 1997 Airbus has had several advantages in the production of aircrafts. Since their goods are still being subsidized, Airbus has expanded its sales from the home market to the overseas market. Thus, their quality products and subsidies together would enable them to resort to dumping (selling exports below their marginal costs of production) their products into the world market, at the cost of their main competitor Boeing. Living in society, we are under constant pressure to surrender our individuality to the will of the majority, the school, the workplace, the family, etc. Everyone is their own unique person, with a different personality than the next, and at the end of the day it is your personal option to display or hide your own individuality when around others. This essay will look at legitimacy as being a moral claim set by our own culture. It will also explore the meaning of overall legitimacy of the 2014 Referendum and if individual claims of citizens are in conflict with it. Even in these situations, violent conflict is only considered ethical to an extent. Times when violent conflict can be considered ethical are: self defense and revenge. Self defense is only ethical to an extent because at some point it is no longer self defense. Revenge is only ethical when it is absolutely necessary, and and at some point it can no longer be considered ethical because it just turns to violence. One instance where violent conflict can be deemed ethical is a situation where your entire family has been kidnapped and/or killed by someone or a group of people. Another instance would be if an entire country is being attacked by another country, and all or most of its citizens are killed, when there was no true declaration of war. Other than these two possibilities, violent conflict cannot be considered ethical. Violent conflict is considered unethical because of the inhumane trauma it causes to people. An example of traumatic violence would be the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan through the use of nuclear weapons. Even though these bombings might have been necessary at the time, does not mean they were an ethical decision. The Impact Of The 20th Century On German Literature One of the few things that impacted literary movements in German literature in the 20th century was Expressionism and what the Germans refer to as Neue Sachlichkeit , which means new objectivity (Scherer, Conybeare Müller, 1906). However, historical events such as the first world war led to the division of the nation into west and east Germany. Therefore, the historical impact on literature differs in both sections. While the east reckoned with the teaching of Hungary philosopher Georg Lukacs, declaring themselves as the communist resistance of Nazism , which led to the birth of Socialist Realism (Bahr, Ryan, Jaeger, 2015), the political situation in the west paved the way for writers such as Bertolt Brecht, who through their work felt the need to fill the cultural vacuum created by the defeat of Nazism. The following essay will therefore discuss the impact of the 20th century on German speaking literature, after which it will analyse the responses of Bertolt Brecht and GĂźnter Eich to the historical and political events. Bertolt Brecht in response to the first world war, which he experienced as a teenager wrote an essay to the phrase Dulce et decorum est pro patria morin , a poet by the Roman Horace, which almost ruined his pursuit for education at the time (Bertolt Brecht, 2017). • 40. Analysis Of The Article Gop Fox Circus Act By Reed... In the article GOP Fox Circus Act , Reed Richardson argues that although both the GOP and Fox have conservative political values, they are ultimately harmful to each other s agendas because of their differing political goals. Both organizations are lacking popularity in recent years so they are struggling to find new ways to gain an audience. The GOP wants to find a way to get their ideas to a wide variety of people, whereas Fox is promoting more liberal views to increase the ratings of their programs. On one hand, the GOP s reputation is hurt by the inaccuracy of Fox s reporting. On the other hand, Fox is tied down by the conservative views of the GOP, thus restraining Fox from gaining a larger audience. Journalist Reed Richardson wrote this article for The National, a liberal newspaper, in 2013, so the events and issues that he is speaking of are still relevant to this day. Due to the differences of political views between the author and the subject matter, there is plenty of room for biased statements and opinions. Does Richardson provide enough evidence of the harmful effects of the Fox and GOP relationship? Richardson clearly and meticulously establishes the problems that both organizations face in the pursuit of their political goals with the use of statistics, reliable sources, and thorough evaluation of events; however Richardson constantly provides the reader with a biased argument when discussing the current state of Fox. • 41. Persuasive Essay On Pedestrians Walk Your Wheels: The Danger of Bicycles in Pedestrian Sidewalks I glance down at my phone for a moment and I realize that my 15 minute margin of travel time to race across campus to my class is dwindling; I look up only to find an individual on a bicycle hurdling toward me, clearly, incapable of stopping in time, I scramble out of the way in an attempt to save myself from becoming roadkill. This is a common occurrence for student pedestrians on their way to class given the increasing number of bicyclists and skateboarders that refrain from following university transportation laws, however, instead of criminalizing the act of using these modes of transportation on pedestrian sidewalks the university should make it safer and more efficient for these individuals to share the roads with cars by installing bicycle lanes. This issue is important to all campus residents, since the incorrect use of transportation could jeopardize their safety and should be carefully considered in order to prevent accidents. This proposal argument will aim at persuading university officials, specifically those in charge of the university transportation services, to reconsider their handling of bicycle and other non motorized transportation rules and safety on campus. There are many rules that bicyclists and other alternative transportation users must follow, for example, bicycles [are] not [to] be ridden on sidewalks or any pedestrian paths in the limited bike zone [central campus] , yet not ... • 42. Judge Haselton s Case Summary In May of 1998, Kipland Kinkel brought a gun to his school. Over the course of two days this escalated from: being sent home, to murdering his father and mother, to murdering 2 students and wounding 26, earning a lifetime sentence of 111 years and 8 months in prison. In the court case being examined, the presiding judge addresses the original case, defendants ground for appeal, and the justification for the State s decision to deny the appeal. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos, logos, and pathos to support the Higher Court s decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was constitutional and just. Summary In State of Oregon v. Kipland Kinkel, Judge Haselton summarizes the decision to deny Kinkel s appeal of his sentencing. Kinkel was sentenced by the Lower Court to 111 years and 8 months for the confession of 4 murders and 25 accounts of attempted murder. Several medical personal and parents testified against Kinkel at the hearing stating that, he is and remains dangerous, (para. 15). The defense s grounds for appeal consist of the sentencing being cruel and unusual and that the protection of society was considered more than reformation. The higher court denied it was cruel and unusual because it did not shock the conscience. The presiding judge also denied that reformation was of higher significance than the protection of society because there were multiple victims affected in a public setting. Starts from the place which is the museum atmosphere. The fact that the theater is located inside the museum gave me an unusual feeling to the film, because I got to walk around and wonder before the screening. It was a sort of preparation before you go to see the movie. Just like appetizers before the main course. And it gave me the excitement to see what the film going to be like. Overall, I liked the film and the why it addressed the characters problems which is a real issues people face. Even though, when I left i felt super mentally exhausted and depressed not because it s such a high characters drama but to see these issues existing. But this is what the film made to be, so I think it succeeded in what it meant to be. After listening to Garrett Bradley s Q A, I ve learned that whatever technique you think it will help your story the best and you have thought of it you should do it despising the narrative. Also to do whatever it takes to make your story real and to not be shy to express yourself in the way you want. One of the other things that was inspiring in her answers was the fact that she made this film with canon 5D in 16 shooting days with seven people. So it s not about what gears and equipment or number of people do you have it s about how much do you believe in your story and why you think this story should be out here to the world to see. The idea was first described in his book The Landmarks of Tomorrow . We know now that the source of wealth is something specifically human: knowledge.
