Gas turbine engines, commonly known as jet engines, use high-temperature gases to power aircraft. There are three main types: turbojets, turbofans, and turboprops. Turbojets use a turbine to drive a compressor, with all air passing through the combustion chamber and exiting through a nozzle to produce thrust. Turbofans have a large fan at the intake that increases airflow, with only some air passing through the core engine. Turboprops use a jet engine to turn a large propeller for thrust production.
