The document discusses IBM's various software licensing metrics, including authorized user, concurrent user, floating user, user value unit, install, processor value unit, server, virtual server, and client device. It provides examples of different data discovery solutions and their capabilities. Finally, it notes that IBM currently offers software under approximately nine different metrics and that the more complex the metric, the more expensive the product.

Akamai, with a network of well over 100,000 globally distributed servers running custom software for optimizing Internet traffic, tackles many problems relating to scale, management, and software quality. Many different groups within the corporate ecosystem maintain largely disparate stacks of software deployed to overlapping subsets of these servers, with complex and loosely-defined interdependencies between many of these software systems. Describing the complete state of a given system, much less a group of these systems, is often difficult or impossible. This makes it difficult for a given team to “stub out” such systems for outside teams to use in their development and testing efforts. Because we’ve found that the use of well-managed, realistic environments is integral to the eventual success of our software deployments, we’ve maintained multiple test networks that are complete copies of the deployed Akamai network for general use internally.
However, as the company grows in size and scope, maintaining these has become an increasingly difficult burden. As a possible solution, we’ve begun to leverage OpenNebula to build multiple well-maintained instances of the groupings of servers that comprise our network. We’ve created the ability to manage and maintain each of these instances as a single independent unit, and to quickly and easily create perfect clones of these instances in our private OpenNebula cloud. Use of these well-maintained cloned instances can then be distributed to various groups, and even individuals, that require them. Groups can integrate their own machines into these cloned instance units to realize the benefits of virtualization as well as the ability to provide their software as infrastructure for other internal development groups.
The talk will discuss some of the technical details of our solution, how it or similar approaches might fit the needs of other companies like Akamai, and how OpenNebula has been instrumental in its development.
Hyperconverged Infrastructure is supposed to simplify the data center by creating an environment that automatically scales as new applications and workloads are added to it. The problem is that the current generation of HCI solutions can only address specific use cases like virtual desktops or tier 2 applications. First generation HCI solutions don’t have the per node power to accommodate enterprise workloads and tier 1 applications. The organization needs a next generation HCI solution, HCI 2.0, that can address HCI 1.0 shortcomings and fulfill the original promises of HCI; Lower costs, faster innovation, simpler scale, single vendor and unified management. The combination enables HCI 2.0 to handle a variety of storage intensive workloads.

(MED305) Achieving Consistently High Throughput for Very Large Data Transfers...Amazon Web Services
A difficult problem for users of Amazon S3 that deal in large-form data is how to consistently transfer ultralarge files and large sets of files at fast speeds over the WAN. Although a number of tools are available for network transfer with S3 that exploit its multipart APIs, most have practical limitations when transferring very large files or large sets of very small files with remote regions. Transfers can be slow, degrade unpredictably, and for the largest sizes fail altogether. Additional complications include resume, encryption at rest, encryption in transit, and efficient updates for synchronization.
Aspera has expertise and experience in tackling these problems and has created a suite of transport, synchronization, monitoring, and collaboration software that can transfer and store both ultralarge files (up to the 5 TB limit of an S3 object) and large numbers of very small files (millions andlt; 100 KB) consistently fast, regardless of region.
In this session, technical leaders from Aspera explain how to achieve very large file WAN transfers and integrate them into mission-critical workflows across multiple industries. EVS, a media service provider to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil explains how they used Aspera solutions for the delivery of high-speed, live video transport, moving real-time video data from sports matches in Brazil to Europe for AWS-based transcoding, live streaming, and file delivery. Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
