the Charles family. Sister and brother battle each other over a piano that tells their family s history.
Through examining their history, Wilson uses setting and symbolism to convey his personal belief in
the importance of one s ancestral family roots and the significant impact it has in a person s everyday
life. The author uses setting to introduce the significance in the ancestry of the Charles family and
further examine the troubling state of the current generation. Wilson grew up in a non wealthy colored
district in which he set most of his plays (Fisher, James), so there is no surprise that Wilson s play has

The one episode I thought was most interesting was when the class first started and they were talking
about compound words. When Mrs. Detreick went to the front of the class room the students got silent
really fast. She then turned on the smart board and pulled up a worksheet. When they were going over
the worksheet she would have the student come up to the board and their responsibility was to write
what the compound word would be. After they got done with the worksheet she told the students to
take out their iPads and go to socrative. They played a game that they had to decide whether the word
was a compound word or not, this put a little competition into the learning. After they played a few

The Americans began to regain control of Japanese controlled islands. One group of soldiers went
south by Australia and began to push up. Another group began to push east, toward Japan. Then,
President Franklin Roosevelt died in office, leaving Vice President Harry Truman to decide how to
make Japan surrender. Truman then met with the Allied leaders and sent a message to Japan asking
them if they wanted to surrender or face utter destruction. The Japanese decided not to surrender and
America dropped the first two nuclear bombs on Japan. The Japanese then surrendered, bringing the

The Allied powers in World War Two had a great problem on their hands. They had to stop the Axis

A Study On Mcnabs Island
Over the past 4 months, I have been extensively studying McNabs Island. From studying elevation,
slope, landscape materials, coastal processes, hydrology, climate patterns, slope aspect, as well as
vegetation I was able to create a synthesis map of the ideal areas where an environmental education
center could possibly be placed on the island without harming the island natural environment and
processes. This report includes an analysis of the island, a constraints and opportunities summary, as
well as inventory maps, analysis maps, and the final synthesis map.
McNabs Island is located south east of Halifax, Nova Scotia within the Halifax harbour. McNabs is
surrounded by the Halifax Peninsula and has Lawlor island near its south eastern side. In the past
McNabs Island was used by the military as a location for forts such as that of Fort Ives as well as an
area for fish processing because of its coastal beaches (Manuel Thompson, 2016). It was also used as
an area to live on, particularly by the McNabs family (Manuel Thompson, 2016). In the early 1900 s
the Davis family located their soft and alcoholic drink processing facility on the island.
McNabs Island has a surface area of 460ha. The elevations on McNabs Island range from 0m to 40m

Published in 1997, Marie Howe s anthology of poems, What the Living Do was written as an elegy to
her brother, John, who passed away due to AIDS. Howe s anthology is written without metaphor to
document the loss she felt after her brother s death. Although What the Living Do is written as an
anthology, this collection allows for individual poems to stand alone but also to work together to tell
an overarching story. Using the poetic devices of alliteration, enjambment, repetition and couplets,
Howe furthers her themes of gender and loss throughout her poems in her anthology. Alliteration is
prevalent in most of the poems in What the Living Do. Howe uses alliteration to bring attention to the
line of poetry and her word choices are meant to evoke a response from the reader. For example, in the
poem, The Promise, alliteration is used to further the themes of gender and loss, as the narrator states
Dad was drunk again and dangerous (Howe 54). The alliteration of dad, drunk, and dangerous bring
the reader s attention to this line and places emphasis on the idea of the narrator and her brother
sharing this moment (line 13). Utilizing this emphasis, the narrator is able to highlight the loss of her

Sarah Ruhl s play, Eurydice, is a devastating story battling love, grief, life, and death. Although it is
set during the 1950 s, the play manages to encompass the ancient Greek myth of Eurydice and
Orpheus. The three most evident themes of this play are recurring death, fleeting happiness, and the
power of love. The main conflict in this play is ultimately about the painful choice that comes with
death; this is often caused by the King of the Underworld. One of the most impressive parts of this
play is the ability to change the way the play is perceived through design.
When I envision this play in my head and through my concept, I view the characters in the living
world to have bright normal costumes. For Example, I can see Eurydice in sundresses and Orpheus in
spring colored button up shirts and pants. This would represent the love and happiness they have for
each other. On the other hand, when I think about costumes in the underworld, I believe they would
need to be a little bit darker and quirky to represent the hard choices and confusion that death has
pushed upon them. I think Eurydice s father should be wearing a dark suit with a crazy tie and no
shoes. When both Eurydice and Orpheus arrive in the underworld their clothes should become darker
and more sullen. I perceive the Stones as being deceased people from different eras that have
completely forgotten who they were, and have been brainwashed by being dipped in the river and by
the King of the Underworld. To represent this, their outfits need to look extremely dull and dirty; they
should be everyday clothes from their different time periods. All three of their costumes should be torn
and drained of all color. The Lord of the Underworld needs to have multiple different costumes. In the
world of the living, he needs to be the darkest dressed; he should wear a black suit and tie. In the
underworld, I envision him wearing more of a boyish outfit, such as shorts, suspenders, and crazy
socks. When he becomes a man and grows to a superhuman high in the end, I would have him wear
tall stilts under long dress pants and wear a suit top.

overarching quest for immortality, this inherent connection that women have with civilization, and

The relocation and imprisonment of Japanese Americans during World War II has been and always
will be a dark stain in American History. Due to America s lingering racism and prejudices, many of
our fellow Americans had to experience an ordeal that no other American should ever have to face.
They lost their homes, businesses, land and more importantly, their freedoms, during a moment of
time that was filled with resentment, mistrust, fear and hatred towards a fellow man (American) that
was just as willing to fight and die for their country.
On December 7, 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The next day, the United States and Britain
declared war on Japan. Two months later, on February 19, 1942, the lives of thousands of Japanese
Americans were dramatically changed when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order
9066. This order led to the assembly and evacuation and relocation of nearly 122,000 men, women,
and children of Japanese ancestry on the west coast of the United States. (1)
It is interesting to note that, despite the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Japanese Americans in Hawaii were
not imprisoned in a large scale as they were stateside. Of the total Japanese American population in
Hawaii which made up nearly 40% of the population of Hawaii itself, and a large portion of the skilled
