This document presents a performance comparison of 5G signal transmission at 28GHz over a free space optical (FSO) link using different modulation techniques (BPSK, FSK, OOK) under dusty weather conditions. It first experimentally analyzes the impact of dust storms on the performance of an all-optical FSO link carrying modulated 5G signals. Results show the link is significantly affected at low visibility ranges. It then compares the effects of dust on parallel FSO and radio frequency links, showing dust has negligible impact on the RF link. Finally, it analyzes a hybrid cascaded FSO/RF link in terms of bit-error-rate and eye diagram under dusty conditions. The study aims to evaluate FSO and

The greatest advantages of optical fibers are the possibility of extending data rate transmission and propagation distances. Being a multicarrier technique, the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) can be applicable in hybrid optical-wireless systems design owing to its best spectral efficiency for the interferences of radio frequency (RF) and minor multipath distortion. An optical OFDM-RoF-based wireless local area network (W-LAN) system has been studied and evaluated in this work. The outline for integrating an optical technology and wireless in a single system was provided with the existence of OFDM-RoF technology and the microstrip patch antenna; these were applied in the Optisystem communication tool. The design of the proposed OFDM-RoF system is aimed at supporting mm-wave services and multi-standard operations. The proposed system can operate on different RF bands using different modulation schemes like 4.16 and 64QAM that may be associated to OFDM and multidata rates up to 5 Gbps. The results demonstrate the robustness of the integrated optical wireless link in propagating OFDM-RoF-based WLAN signals across optical fibers.

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is of prime importance nowadays in long haul
communication networks because of its higher spectral efficiency, immunity to multipath fading and its
resilience to interference. Optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing is considered as a promising

Integrated Optical Wireless Network For Next Generation Wireless SystemsCSCJournals
Next generation wireless networks need to support broadband wireless services at significantly reduced cost. The existing wireless systems can hardly provide transmission capacity of the order of few Mbps. However, millimeter waves and optical fiber can provide data capacity of the order of Gbps and Tbps respectively. Hence the requirements of broadband wireless system can be achieved through the integration of optical fiber and millimeter wireless systems. We suggest modified millimeter wireless system, with optical fiber as feeder network. Simulations have been carried out for AWGN and optical fiber channels using MATLAB code, so as to compare their individual performance. When compared it is observed that the performance of multimode optical fiber (MMOF) link even for distance of 80 KM is better than that of the AWGN channel with SNR of 50 dB and above. Hence, an integrated fiber radio network is an excellent cost effective media for higher data rate (>100Mbps).

Received Power performance in downlink architecture of Radio-over-Fiber Trans...IOSR Journals
Abstract : The In this paper, we studied the RoF system and analyzed the received power performance in downlink architecture of RoF system. The RoF system employs a Mach–Zehnder modulator (MZM) and a phase shifter to externally generate an optical single sideband (OSSB) signal since the OSSB signal is tolerable for power degradation due to a chromatic fiber-dispersion effect. The received power performance is analyzed by calculating a factor called Power Penalty. It is shown that Power penalty is increased exponentially as the differential delay increased with the distance due to chromatic dispersion with the change in laser linewidth (𝛾𝑅𝐹) from 10MHz to 1000MHz. The results are calculated for various transmission distances (𝐿𝐹𝐼𝐵𝐸𝑅) 1km to 40km for optical distances. The frequency of laser taken is 30-GHz RF carrier (𝑓𝑅𝐹) and wavelength 1550-nm laser (λ) with zero line width, fiber dispersion parameter (D) 17 ps/nm·km.

Raman amplifier performance in pre-amplifier use for optical fiber communicat...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
The development of telecommunications networks is currently dominated by fiber optics. The fiber optic has become a waveguide medium transmitting information with high frequency bands, high capacity and high speed. An optical amplifier is required to maintain electromagnetic signals when they propagate in far distance. One of the amplifiers, Fiber Raman Amplifiers (FRA) which is the light scattering from the light that comes with the phonon in the lattice of amplification medium produces photons that are coherent with the incoming photons. Many amplifiers are commonly used but the problems not only come from the amplifier but also the component circuit and system. By simulation method, FRA circuit is designed and operated in the form of pre-amplifiers to maintain a better signal from material interference and geometry. The simulation results show that the lowest BER value and the highest Q-factor are found at a distance of 10 km depicted by eye diagram.

A compact, printed, ultrawideband (UWB) monopole antenna suitable to be as an internal antenna attractive for future UWB applications is demonstrated. The proposed antenna is of a small form factor with the dimensions 6 mm × 33 mm and can easily be fed by 50-ohms mini-cable line. The antenna mainly comprises a monopole antenna, a feeding strip and a ground plane, all printed on a small FR4 substrate. The monopole antenna is printed on both layers of the substrate with an end portion on the back for control of the first/lower resonant mode of the antenna. The feeding strip in between the monopole antenna and the ground plane is further offset to achieve better impedance matching and proper upper-edge operating frequency. With the proposed antenna structure, which provides an operating bandwidth of larger than 2.7 GHz, the impedance bandwidth by 10-dB return loss can easily cover the 3.1–4.85 GHz band, the lower band of the UWB operation.
Comprehensive investigation of coherent optical OFDM-RoF employing 16QAM exte...IJECEIAES
Given the growing need for long haul transmission that requires a high rate of data, the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing scheme (OFDM), is regarded as a technique with high potentials for high-capacity optical networks. OFDM transmits over both optical and wireless channels, with the data distributed over a huge amount of the subcarrier, and the data is distributed over a huge number of subcarriers. OFDM achieves RF signal for a long-haul transmitting by utilizing Radio over Fiber (RoF) system, which is known to produce higher orthogonality of the OFDM modulated signal designed for the wireless network. RoF systems comprise of heterogeneous networks designed through the use of wireless and optical links. The aim of this paper is to carry out an investigation of the performance of the external modulation in RoF links, while analyzing the shortcomings caused by the various elements of the optical system. The Mach–Zehnder modulator (MZM) can be applied in external modulation, and exhibits a more robust performance when implemented with the OFDM modulation technique.
Next generation optical networks will evolve from static to dynamically reconfigurable architectures to meet the increasing bandwidth and service requirements. When considering signal quality in static networks, it is sufficient to monitor a single channel in a WDM system, since all channels travel through the same fixed path degrading the signal quality uniformly due to link mismatch. However, in dynamic networks, each channel will traverse a unique path through the network thus the channels arriving at the monitoring point will, in general, exhibit different quality signals. Therefore, in a dynamic network it is necessary to monitor all channels individually to quantify the degradation, without the requirement of knowing the data path history. Thus optical performance monitoring (OPM) is essential in building a reliable, high-capacity, and service-differentiation enabled all optical network.

The biasing and matching networks both are implemented by using microstrip transmission lines. The input and output matching circuits are designed by combining two broadband matching techniques: a binomial multi-section quarter wave impedance transformer and an approximate transformation of previously designed lumped elements. The proposed BPA shows excellent performances in terms of impedance matching, power gain and unconditionally stability over the operating bandwidth ranging from 1.2 GHz to 3.3 GHz. At 2.2 GHz, the large signal simulation shows a saturated output power of 18.875 dBm with an output 1-dB compression point of 6.5 dBm of input level and a maximum PAE of 36.26%.

Performance Investigation of OFDM-FSO System under Diverse Weather Conditions...IJECEIAES
Free space optical (FSO) communication systems which are deployed for last mile access, being considered as a suitable alternative technology for optical fiber networks. It is one of the emerging technologies for broadband wireless connectivity which has also been receiving growing attention due to high data rate transmission capability with low installation cost and license free spectrum. However, the widespread use of FSO technology has been hampered by the randomly time varying characteristics of propagation path mainly due to atmospheric turbulence, sensitivity to diverse weather conditions and the nonlinear responsivity of laser diode. This paper presents the performance investigation of an OFDM-FSO system over atmospheric turbulence channels under diverse weather conditions of Bangladesh. The channel is modeled with gamma-gamma distribution using 16-QAM modulation format and 4×4 multiple transceiver FSO system. All possible challenges are imposed on the system performance such as atmospheric attenuation, turbulence, pointing error, geometric loss etc. The refractive index structure parameter and atmospheric attenuation coefficient for different weather conditions are calculated by using the data, collected from Bangladesh Meteorological Department. The acquired results can be fruitful for scheming, forecasting and assessing the OFDM-FSO system’s ability to transmit wireless services over turbulent FSO links under actual conditions of Bangladesh.
EFFECT OF OPERATING WAVELENGTHS AND DIFFERENT WEATHER CONDITIONS ON PERFORMAN...IJCNCJournal
Free Space Optical (FSO) communication is a very recent and emerging technology to establish broadband
wireless data transmission system using modulated optical beams. The adoption of FSO system is mainly
needed when any physical connection between the transmitter and receiver is practically impossible and
where high bandwidth data transmission is expected. The performance of FSO communication technology
is highly dependent on atmospheric attenuation which is related to the visibility of the different weather
conditions as well as operating wavelengths. This paper presents our study about the effect of visibility as
well as operating wavelengths on atmospheric attenuation in different weather conditions for point-to-point
free space optical link. Moreover, it also discusses the methodology to find out the optimum link distance
for point-to-point FSO link which will be operated in different weather conditions. It is found that,
atmospheric attenuation is changed with the change in weather condition as well as operating wavelengths.
Free space optics known as (FSO) is very popular now days this is because of increased demand for cheaper, faster and most important affordable internet. So many research scientists have taken the great interest in this field. FSO uses laser for transmitting data at the speed capable of reaching 2.5 Gbps through the air. And its systems use invisible infrared laser light wavelengths in the 780 nm to 1600 nm range. This article explains the FSO security, the transmission characteristics and also its challenges; although Free Space Optic systems can be a better solution for the needs of some broadband networking, there are limitations of bad climatic conditions that influence its performance such as fog, snow and too much rain can shut down the network. The performance of FSO is measured by Bit Error Rates (BER).

In the present work the future communication requirements need to fulfill with high data rate, FSO (free space optic) with it is tremendous potential is the solution. This research observed the effectiveness analysis of FSO systems by modifying one of the most important FSO parameters beam divergence, under the most affected weather attenuating condition Rainwater and snow pack. The simulation is obtained and analyzed under single channels CSRZ-FSO (carrier-suppressed return-to-zero/free space optical) systems having capacity of 40 Gbps between two transceivers with variable distance. The connection is presently under 5 meteorological turbulences (light rain, medium rain, wet snow, heavy rain and dry snow). The results show the heavy rain and dry snow have a very high attenuation carried out in terms of Q-factor. this result led us to conclude that small divergence offers significant performance improvement for FSO link and this performance decrease every time the beam divergence increase, Therefore, to build inexpensive and reliable transmission media, we go with new method that still in the experiment area called hybrid RF/FSO (radio frequency/free space optical) that compatible with atmospherically status.
Performance Analysis of Post Compensated Long Haul High Speed Coherent Optica...IJECEIAES
This paper addresses the performance analysis of OFDM transmission system based on coherent detection over high speed long haul optical links with high spectral efficiency modulation formats such as Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) as a mapping method prior to the OFDM multicarrier representation. Post compensation is used to compensate for phase noise effects. Coherent detection for signal transmitted at bit rate of 40 Gbps is successfully achieved up to distance of 3200km. Performance is analyzed in terms of Symbol Error Rate and Error Vector Magnitude by varying Optical Signal to Noise Ratio (OSNR) and varying the length of the fiber i.e transmission distance. Transmission performance is also observed through constellation diagrams at different transmission distances and different OSNRs.

Even with this solution, there are many other problems like the influence of haze and fog in the propagation channel which obstruct and scatter OWC propagation light and consequently led to a big attenuation, due to propagate in temporal, angular and spatial of the light signal. Not to mention the minimum visibility that discourages the implementation of the pointing errors (PE) and tracking system. This present work aims to analyze the interrelation between multiple scattering (dense fog, heavy fog, light fog, heavy haze and light haze) and receiver PE under modified duo-binary return-to-zero (MDRZ) system. We found that PE caused by beam swag is the main controlling factor and industriously minimize the link margin, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and raise the bit error rate (BER) when there is an increasing the turbulence strength and the track length. We recommended to guarantee transmitter– receiver alignment by installing a variable field of view (FOV) receiver (a tracking system) to overcome the scattering impact of the fog that make render urban laser communication effective in the presence of PE.
Improving the performance of free space optical systems: a space-time orthogo...IJECEIAES
Free space optical (FSO) communication systems are known for high-level capacity and information security. The overall system performances of FSO systems are however significantly affected by atmospheric turbulence induced fading. This paper, therefore, proposes a space-time code (STC) technique to mitigate this effect through the introduction of an additional degree of error correction capacity by exploiting the spectral dimension in the coding space. A space-time trellis coded orthogonal frequency division modulation (OFDM) scheme was developed, simulated and evaluated for free space optical communication through a gamma-gamma channel. The evaluation of the coding gain obtained from the simulation results, the mathematical analysis and the truncation error analysis shows that the proposed technique is a promising and viable technique for improving the error correction performance on optical communication links.

Inter-satellite optical wireless communication
system (IsOWC), one of the important applications of FSO
(Free Space Optics) technology, will be deployed in space in
the near future because of providing power efficient and high
bandwidth allocation facilities unlike present microwave
satellite systems. In this paper, we have deliberated a novel
model of OFDM-IsOWC system using OPTISYSTEM T M
simulator to optimize an inter-satellite link (ISL) between
satellites with acceptable SNR and BER, which is not reported
in previous investigated work.
Free Space Optics is a medium with high bandwidth which has maximum data rate. Demand for
large data speed capacity has been increasing exponentially due to the massive spread of internet
So with the growing transmission rate and demand in the field of optical communication, the electronic
regeneration has become more expensive. With the introduction of power optical amplifiers the cost of
converting optical signals to electronic
combinations of hybrid amplifiers have been studied and emerged in FSO system. Their performances
have been compared on the basis of transmission distance

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

Water scarcity is the lack of fresh water resources to meet the standard water demand. There are two type of water scarcity. One is physical. The other is economic water scarcity.
CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
