Aluminium Matrix Composites (AMC’s) are widely used in aerospace, automotive,
structural and marine applications due to their high strength to weight ratio, corrosion
resistance. In AMC one of constituent is aluminium or its alloy which forms a network
called as matrix phase and other constituent is embedded in matrix made of harder material
generally ceramic or non metallic material called as reinforcement. Various processing
techniques are available for manufacturing of AMC’s. Stir casting is one of the economical
and extensively used methods to enhance attractive properties of AMC’s. This paper
presents an overview of stir casing process, process parameter and preparation of AMC
using aluminium alloy as matrix phase and alumina (Al2O3) as reinforcement by varying
their proportion.

Evolution of automobile production has been driven by competitive materials. Light-weight alloys are
continuously developed as most sustainable for automotive sector. Aluminum is being used as a successful
material in automotive applications due to its low weight, higher strength, good corrosion resistance and
formability to suit different design requirements. Since aluminium has the potential to be used as replacement
of the current automotive materials like steel and cast iron, its demand has increased greatly. In a further
development aluminium metal matrix composites (MMCs) were developed and these have improved wear
resistance, high fatigue strength and better thermal stability, as compared with those of aluminum. In
automobile sector, wear is a major problem, specifically in engineering assemblies and materials used for this
purpose should have good tribological properties. To this effect Al MMCs have attracted significant attraction
since they have improved wear resistance. Metal matrix composites are usually produced with secondary
particles in the form of either continuous or discontinuous fiber or particles. From the viewpoint of good
mechanical properties aluminium matrix is generally reinforced by oxide or carbide, nitride or boride
ceramics (like Al2O3, SiC, Si3N4, TiC, TiB2. Reinforcement of the matrix with only one of these
reinforcements may not yield desired properties and the matrix may need to be augmented with other
reinforcements also. Graphite and SiC are the reinforcements used widely in automotive industries to achieve
better mechanical and tribological properties and dampen the vibrations with less operational costs.
Aluminum metal matrix composite can be produced by various methods including powder metallurgy,
conventional casting technology, etc. Among the casting methods semisolid processing of composites yields
better mechanical strength. This review deals with various manufacturing methods of metal matrix composites
processing and insight on semisolid processing and its process parameters.
Experimental Study of Wear Rate Coefficient of Aluminium Hybrid Composites Ma...AM Publications
In current decade, demand in material characteristics like light weight, superior strength to weight ratio, improved surface properties and enhanced wear resistance for complex engineering applications like automobile, aerospace and nuclear are researcher’s interest. However, performance of hybrid composites depends on right combination of reinforcements. Silicon carbide, silicon nitride, boron nitride and titanium carbide are few reinforcements available at present. In this work, Al356 is reinforced with SiC and B4C to enhance the mechanical properties, surface hardness and wear resistance. This hybrid composite is prepared by stir casting technique and the morphology of composite is studied using optical microscope to investigate the dispersion of reinforcements. In the present study, the wear and friction characteristics of hybrid composites are investigated using pin on disc dry wear tests by varying the load and speed and the results are tabulated for load vs mass loss, load vs wear rate and load vs wear coefficient. The results report that wear rate of hybrid composites are lower than that of binary composites. Mechanical properties, surface hardness and wear characteristics of aluminium hybrid composites are compared with that of aluminium binary composites available at present.

This work deals with fabricating or producing aluminium based metal matrix composite and then
studying its microstructure and mechanical properties such as tensile strength, impact strength and wear
behavior of produced test specimen. In the present study a modest attempt has been made to develop aluminium
based MMCs with reinforcing material, with an objective to develop a conventional low cast method of
producing MMCs and to obtain homogeneous dispersion of reinforced material. To achieve this objective stir
casting technique has been adopted. Aluminium Alloy (LM6) and SiC, Fly Ash has been chosen as matrix and
reinforcing material respectively. Experiment has been conducted by varying weight fraction of Fly Ash ( 5%
and 15%) while keeping SiC constant(5%). The result shown that the increase in addition of Fly Ash increases
the Tensile Strength, Impact Strength, Wear Resistance of the specimen and decreases the percentage of

A Study on Mechanical Properties of Fly Ash and Alumina Reinforced Aluminium ...IOSR Journals
The results of an experimental investigation of the mechanical properties of fly ash and Alumina
reinforced aluminium alloy (LM25) composites samples, processed by stir casting route are reported in this
paper. Three sets of composites with constant weight fraction of fly ash (particle size of 3-100 μm) and
Al2O3(particle size of 150 μm) with different wt% were used. Composite samples have the reinforcement weight
fractions of constant 3% fly Ash and varying %wt of 5, 10 and 15% Al2O3 . The main mechanical properties
studied were the tensile strength, ductilityimpact strength & hardness. Unreinforced LM25 samples were also
tested for the same properties. It was found that the tensile strength & hardness of the aluminium alloy (Lm25)
composites increases with the increase in %wt of Al2O3 upto certain limit. in addition of more amount of
reinforcement the Tensile strength decrease due to poor wettability of the reinforced material with metal
aluminium matrix .And the charpy test shows decrease in impact load absorption with increase in %weight
reinforcement. The Microstructure study of the samples indicated near uniform distribution of the fly ash and
Al2O3 particles in the matrix. LM25 alloy is mainly used where good mechanical properties are required in
castings of a shape or dimensions requiring an alloy of excellent castability in order to achieve the desired
standard of soundness. The alloy is also used where resistance to corrosion is an important consideration
particularly where highstrength is also required.
Modeling and Characterization of Metal Matrix Composite Aluminum Graphite Com...ijtsrd
The emergence of metal matrix composites is partly a consequence of an improved understanding of their potentials and limitations based on their science of process, principles of physical metallurgy and interfacial chemistry. They can be produced by conventional casting techniques. The reinforcing material such as particulates of graphite can be added into the melt of any metal during its stirring. The resultant mixture is then cast into a permanent mould. This technique was used to produce aluminum graphite composite containing different percentage concentrations of graphite ranging from zero to twenty 0 20 wt . To solve the problem of making the molten aluminum alloy wetting the graphite, a special chemical activation was carried out. The accent is on mechanical performance, describing how the presence of reinforcement in a metallic matrix influences its mechanical and physical properties. This composite shows a decrease in wear rate due to the presence of graphite fiber in the composite. Nwosu Moses C | Ettah B. O | Eze S. K | Okolie G. Aluminum matrix composites (AMCs) refer to the class of light weight high performance aluminum centric
material systems. The reinforcement in AMCs could be in the form of continuous/discontinuous fibers, whiskers or particulates,
in volume fractions. Properties of AMCs can be tailored to the demands of different industrial applications by suitable
combinations of matrix, reinforcement and processing route. This work focuses on the fabrication of aluminum alloy (LM13)
matrix composites reinforced with 9%, 12% &15% fused silica particulates using stir casting route. The microstructure and
hardness of the fabricated composite were analyzed and reported.
Mechanism of Fracture in Friction Stir Processed Aluminium AlloyDr. Amarjeet Singh
Aluminium alloys are used for important
applications in reducing the weight of the component and
structure particularly associated with transport, marine,
and aerospace fields. Grain refinement by scandium (Sc)
addition can eliminate the casting defects and increase the
resistance to hot tearing for high strength aluminium alloys.
FSP for cast aluminium alloys have been focused and it has
great advantages including solid state microstructural
evolution, altering mechanical properties by optimizing
process parameters. These parameters are tool rotational
speeds (720, and 1000 rpm), traverse speeds (80, and 70
mm/min), and axial compressive force at 15 kN, etc. The
mechanical properties had been evaluated on FSPed
aluminium alloy with different microstructural conditions.
Fracture properties of aluminium alloys are very important
for industrial applications. Tensile and fracture toughness
properties were correlated to microstructural and
fractographic features of the aluminium alloys need to
explore their essential failure mechanisms.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!

Cosmetic shop management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
Buying new cosmetic products is difficult. It can even be scary for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to skin trouble. The information needed to alleviate this problem is on the back of each product, but it's thought to interpret those ingredient lists unless you have a background in chemistry.
Instead of buying and hoping for the best, we can use data science to help us predict which products may be good fits for us. It includes various function programs to do the above mentioned tasks.
Data file handling has been effectively used in the program.
The automated cosmetic shop management system should deal with the automation of general workflow and administration process of the shop. The main processes of the system focus on customer's request where the system is able to search the most appropriate products and deliver it to the customers. It should help the employees to quickly identify the list of cosmetic product that have reached the minimum quantity and also keep a track of expired date for each cosmetic product. It should help the employees to find the rack number in which the product is placed. It is also Faster and more efficient way.
