Correlation of Food and Human Survival in Two Cultures
The cliché that we eat to live embraces the fact that there is a strong positive correlation between food
and human survival. This brings to mind when a baby is born he or she has to depend on the breast
milk of the mother in order to survive. In the same manner all humanity needs food to stay healthy life
and strong all the time. The kind of food and the manner in which it is eating varies due to
geographical locations, cultural difference and climatic conditions. It is based on these reasons that the
comparison of diets are necessary. Comparing the Mediterranean diet to the West African diet, it is
superior in terms of nutritional value and inferior in terms of economic value (affordability) as well as
accessibility to the West African diet.
Mediterranean diet is not the term diet which is used to refer to a person who is restricted from eating
some kind of food due to health reasons. It is a life style adopted by a particular group of people living
in the countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. This lifestyle includes what to eat, how to eat and
the type of physical training they undergo to keep their bodies fit (Kathleon, MPH, RD LD). Some of
the Mediterranean diets include olive oil, fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and moderate amount of red
wine (Douaud, 2007). People who eat the Mediterranean diet follows its plan for it to work out
properly. The meditarranean diet pyramid is very useful when it comes to their meal plan. The

Paramount Decision Vs Hollywood Blacklist
The Paramount decision and the Hollywood blacklist were two major milestones that brought
dramatic changes to the film industry. The Paramount decision was a ruling made by the Supreme
Court in 1948, against the activities of the major studios called the Big 5, which were the main fully
integrated film studios between 1920 and 1948. The ruling stated that the major studios practiced bad
business tactics that included block booking and blind buying and that this in fact formed a monopoly
of the film industry. The Hollywood black list was a 20th century practice of denying screenwriters,
directors, actors, musicians and other U.S. entertainers because of their political associations. This list
was created by a group of individuals that believed that certain entertainment professionals persons
were affiliated with communists. This list of persons was not able to produce, act, or work on or in any
films during this dark period in film industry history (The Independent Producers and the Paramount
Case, 1938 1949 http://www.cobbles.com/simpp_archive/paramountcase_6supreme1948.htm). ...

The Big 5 were Lowe s Incorporated, Fox, Paramount Pictures, RKO and Warner Brothers and they
owned the major studios as well as the movie houses that showed the films. This ruling is called the
Paramount decision because within this decision, Paramount agreed to a government instituted
consent decree that abolished the practice of collecting up front monies for films not yet produced.
The decision favored independent film producers and marked the official end of the Hollywood studio
system. The studio system was the old film industry standard that controlled creation, production, and

Esme s Experience
Introduction
Nothing will prepare you for that first day of being a teacher, when 25 students walk into your room
and you become responsible for their learning and growth for a year. Esme s experience as a new
teacher was eye opening, she really sees it all in her first year and honestly it made me a little nervous.
But at the very end of it all she reminds me of how and why I want to teach. Through all of what she
sees and does she reminds the reader of what she is there to do: make an impact on a child s life by
inspiring them to learn, create and explore. Esme uses some unique teaching methods in her first year,
some I have experienced before and some that made me go back and reread in disbelief. Her
experience as a first year teacher is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By teaching math in an unconventional way, she made a task that might otherwise be difficult and
frustrating, enjoyable and relatable to some students. However, the practice might not be transferable
to all classrooms. From an inclusive standpoint this practice might not be inviting to all students.
Children with mobility disabilities might struggle with this lesson since they wouldn t be able to fully
participate in dancing. The lesson might also confuse some children because it requires a lot of
moving and counting. Doing the Cha Cha requires the student to be able to keep rhythm, and if some
children aren t as good of dancers or as interested in music, this lesson might become frustrating rather
than helpful. Yet for students like myself, who relate to music, this lesson could help them further

Silhouettes In The 50 s
The 1940 s was a turning point in fashion when the New Look by Christian Dior was created in 1947.
The new silhouette included soft rounded shoulders, was nipped in the waist, and had a long full skirt.
This silhouette along with Christian Dior s tight skirted silhouette in dresses and suits and the A line
look all continued into the 1950 s and remained the three main silhouettes for most of the decade. His
three silhouettes influenced all kinds of attire including prom dresses, casual everyday wear and even
children s clothing. Figure 4 shows my great grandmother and grandfather in their home in 1955.
Everyday dresses were very important during this time because many women did not work but still
wanted to remain fashionable in their home.

Rising Imperialism In 19th And Early 20th Century
The rising imperialism during the late 19th and early 20th century is often portrayed throughout the
course of the book. European countries along with US were all in a race to gain control over the rest of
the world. They started to control big territories in Asia, Africa, and South America. They conquered
these areas through military force and exploration, often exploiting their new lands and conquered
peoples using them for labor and hurting them if they didn t cooperate. They used these new territories
to gain power and wealth. During this time Belgium attempts to build its own empire in the Congo. Sir
Henry Morton Stanley, an explorer who was sent and funded by King Leopold, was sent to conquer
the Congo for King Leopold and for Belgium. Once they conquered the Congo they exported many of
the riches and treasures, without anything being imported. The first modern international scandal was
King Leopold s invasion of the Congo, he conquered and ruled through exploration and deception. At
this time European countries countries like Britain, Spain, Portugal, France, and Belgium were all in a
race to gain more territory and to expand their control. Portugal was in the lead and Belgium was
lagging far behind in this race for power. Belgium was smaller country that was new at the time and
still trying to expand their country. King leopold, the king of belgium, decided to acquire territory in
Africa to make belgium a major empire. Leopold established a title as a great

Interviews
Applied Criminal Justice Ethics
This has to be one of my favorite assignments since becoming a student at Kaplan. I have been
interested in the Criminal Justice since I was a small child. I come from a long line of military,
however, my passion has always been Criminal Law. I remember even as a young girl in the 2nd
grand, I had dreams and aspirations of becoming a lawyer. Now that I have an ex husband, and two
children of my own and find the justice system a little Leewayish (if that s even a word) on dead beat
fathers, my dream has now become to be a Ball busting District Attorney for deadbeat moms and dads.

4. I believe there was enough ethics taught at the academy. I think the most valuable lessons in this are
learned on the job though. If you watch a good honest cop, you can learn more from him than a
lecture. (Shonda Ellis Duncan, personal Interview 2011)
5. Should ethics training be offered as an on going process for law enforcement officers? * 5. On
going ethics training is always a good idea. We train with our guns and cars every year. Couldn t hurt
to make ethics required every year too. (Shonda Ellis Duncan, personal Interview 2011) 6. Do the
interviewees feel that education and/or training in ethics would reduce incidents of police corruption?
* 6. Training may reduce corruption incidents. It s a nice idea. A wise man once told me though that
power corrupts. I believe this to be true. If you think of yourself as a superior to everyone else, there is
no law, no training or in service that can fix that kind of ugly. I don t know if someone can be trained
to be humble. Either you are or you ain t. I think this is true for cops. You re either a good one or we
appreciate your interest in law enforcement. Of course a good cop has to maintain order. You must
have respect to be successful. An officer s presence alone demands it. One must remember the spirit
and the letter of the law though and hold it dear as it is precious. (Shonda Ellis Duncan, personal

Birth Control Pill Research Paper
History Of The Birth Control Pill I chose to do research on the birth control pill because there is many
different types of birth control but the pill is the most popular one in the united states and I never
knew much information on it. The purpose of this research page is to understand the history and
understand why it is so important in today s society. Margaret Sanger is the founder of birth control.
She was born on september 14, 1879 in corning New York she was 1 out of the 11 irish immigrant
children that her parents had. Margaret mother had 18 pregnancies and died in her 40 s, and several
miscarriages. Margaret allowed her mother s death affected her where she wanted to better her life.
She attended Claverack College and went to study nursing at white plains hospital. In 1902 Margaret
married an architect name William Sanger. After their marriage they both decided to have 3 wanted
kids together, but when she was giving birth to one she was at an high risk to die. During Margaret s
time while trying to become an nurse sanger had a known movement called the sacs case that made
her life turn around.A 28 year old Mrs.Sac called her was almost close to being dead because she was
dying from blood poisoning from giving herself an illegal self induced abortion. Sadie Sac was a
mother of 3 but wanted more kids, the doctor told her to stop having sexual intercourse because if she

In the early 1900 s a group of powerful business people came to the rescue of the economically
drowning Midsouth area. This area which was highly dependent on transportation for economic
development had no representation against any legislative decisions. That is until the Midsouth
Chamber of Commerce (MSCC) was formed. This group lobbied legislature on the issue to provide
transportation services. As the years continued the responsibility of the MSCC shifted from supporting

Lassiter took it upon himself to make sure the product was ordered. Another month went by and
Lassiter found out the product was still not implemented, Kovecki was too busy with another project
and was not able to get to it until mid April. Lassiter needed to get things moving; after all he told the
Board it would be completed by the end of March 2006. He took some steps for action, called a
meeting to inform his staff, set up appointments with UNITRAK for training himself and staff, yet the
project continued to lag and Lassiter had no choice but to ask Wallingford to intervene. He strongly
urged Hedges and Kovecki toward completion of the project. Gaps in the system continued, not only
did the staff complain about the software not being user friendly, UNITRAK openly admitted the
software was new and that they were open to adjustments and changes, that did not give the staff any
confidence. More problems came about when Kovecki attempted to transfer the information from the
old system to the new and was unsuccessful. Lassiter was at his wits end, sat down and let out a loud
sigh.
Many issues have been brought forth in this case study. I believe that I would propose the following
actions to the Executive Board.
First I would propose role modification changes. A Chief Information Officer (CIO) position would be
created and Lassiter would be the right candidate for it. Value is

Edward Jenner the Creator of the Vaccine for Smallpox Essay
Throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth century a disease dominated the world killing one in three
people who caught it, smallpox. The few that survived the disease were left with very disfigured
bodies and weak immune systems. In modern days this disease seems very unusual and hard to catch;
it is all because of one man, Edward Jenner.
Edward Jenner, the father of immunology , was born on May 17, 1749. He was one of nine siblings
and he was treated for smallpox for a very long period of his childhood. I predict that his treatment to
small pox as an infant encouraged his work into creating the vaccine for smallpox itself. It is said that
his work saved more lives than the work of any other human . He found the similarities of cowpox ...

Finally Jenner had his proof but he just needed more cases to prove its credibility.
To find his proof he traveled to Europe to try and gather volunteers to test his vaccination. After three
months of talking around and attempting to get test subjects he was unsuccessful. He was very
desperate and wanted to prove his theory but with his hopes denied in Europe he had to take another
big step to try and prove his results. It took a global wide survey to find some people to test his theory
o and confirm his results. From there his vaccine was acknowledged globally.
With a vaccine to one of the world s deadliest diseases for the time Jenner was awarded with several
honors and awards. Along with those honors and awards he was given a lot of cash prizes as an
addition to the world s thanks. Unlike plenty of other scientists or most people he did not use his
money to become known as a wealthy figure. Jenner used almost all of his money to create vaccines
for the poor and to continue researching other topics.
He was so dedicated into helping the poor or anybody who desperately needed the vaccine that he
built a hut in his garden that he called the temple of vaccinia . In that he vaccinated the poor for free
anytime he had the chance to or whenever he had the resources. Sometimes Jenner did not have the
appropriate resources to create a vaccine for his patients inside of the temple of vaccinia. It never
failed that

Analysis Of Tell My Horse By Zora Neale Hurston
In Zora Neale Hurtson s ethnography, Tell My Horse (1938), she uses her research and field notes
from her year in the Caribbean islands to study how the political atmosphere and culture tie into the
religion of Vodoun. Being one of the first in her field to study this religion, Hurston hoped to expand
research upon the subtle nuances within the African diaspora and increase the people of Caribbean s
acceptance of their African identity. In doing so, Hurtson found her research discouraged the idea of
Pancaribbeanism and diminished stereotypes of Vodoun being a religion based upon only evil
possession and pagan sacrifice. As an up and coming African American author in the Harlem
Renaissance, Hurston accomplished major feats against the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Her racial disposition as an African American also made many of the participants more comfortable
discussing religious and social topics with her. Throughout her research, Hurston studied two main
aspects of the Vodoun culture, those rituals and rites surrounding death, and those surrounding the idea
of marriage. This stark contrast relates back to her main focus of her research and hopes of smashing
the stereotype of Vodoun being an evil, pagan religion. One intriguing aspect that was present in a
majority of her research was the basis of the culture and religion around orature. In orally passing
traditions and rites through the generations, it ensures that with each family, generation, and especially
island, that there are differences in how certain ceremonies are held. For example, during her
observation of a family s funeral rites, Hurston asked many different family members how they
spotted and trapped any stray duppies, or spirits, that may be around. To Hurston s surprise, each
family member had a slightly different answer to both question, with some saying the way to spot a
duppy was through suspicious, sneaking movements without eye contact, to as grotesque as foaming
at the mouth. (59 61). This was furthered proven when every answer was different in how to trap a

Whitney Houston Hero s Journey Essay
When Whitney Houston decided to be a singer, her mother warned her she d be alone a lot (Mitchell).
Despite this, Houston was able to realize that we all are no matter what we do. Loneliness is a thing
that comes with life. In order to deal with this feeling of isolation that her mother had warned her
about, Houston turned to drugs and a destructive marriage. You d think that with all her fans and huge
career Houston would be happy, but it s easy to tell from her example that even those who seem the
strongest can break into something no one can imagine. Joseph Campbell first outlined his thoughts of
a journey all mythical heroes followed as steps in 1949 and, despite the time difference, these steps
can still be compared to the lives of modern day heroes. From her birth to her death, Houston
managed to follow these steps of the Hero s Journey to prove herself as a hero who fought for her
career and ultimately her life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

could be a person or an object. This call compels them to leave their normality and venture into the
unknown, causing them to often feel out of place in the new environment. Rather than being a call that
was brought by a herald, Houston was her own herald by producing her call by herself. Her interest in
singing pushed her into wanting to have her own career like her mother. She was able to start pursuing
this call when she was 11 by singing solos as a member of a junior gospel choir at her church.
Houston then began to perform with her mother at a few gigs as a teen and later went on to be a
backup singer for artists such as the Michael Zager Band, Lou Rawls, and Jermaine Jackson

Emotional Analysis Of Dodge Ram Trucks
And on the 8th day, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, I need a caretaker. So, God
made a farmer. These words from Paul Harvey rang from the home TVs of millions of people during
the 2013 Super Bowl broadcasting. As the 2 minute commercial played, it became one of the most
memorable Super Bowl commercials ever created. Dodge Ram produced this commercial not only to
advertise their trucks, but also depict the American farmer. Though it didn t advertise their trucks
directly, the Dodge commercial indirectly advertises through describing the qualities of a farmer in
order to show the comparable qualities of their Ram trucks. This is no ordinary commercial, and it is
successful because of its logical, emotional, and ethical appeal to the audience. The fact that every
American watching the commercial relies on farmers gives the audience a logical way to relate to the
importance of farmers. Just like our country relies on farmers for food, clothing, and other products,
the common farmer relies on Dodge Ram trucks to help them carry out their day to day tasks. The
most important task of a farmer being to provide for the people in their families and well beyond. In
order to captivate the audience and show this, the commercial provides pictures of farmers using a
Dodge truck to help them carry out their daily farm work. In addition to pictures, Dodge shows the
reliability and utility of Dodge Ram trucks through describing their strong, yet gentle quality. This

Rhetorical Analysis Of All Men Are Created Equal
What does it mean All Men Are Created Equal it must be difficult for President Lincoln to explain this
idea to his audience after the Civil War had just come to an end, while there is still a little conflict
between both sides. To begin with, the American idea is that all men are created equal and Lincoln
during his speech he is trying to convince his audience that All Men Are Created Equal. Adding on, to
do so, Lincoln wants to dedicate a portion of the land, as to honor all of the brave men who have given
their lives on the Battlefield. Furthermore, Lincoln wants his audience to put this war to rest and then
prepare for a greater task that lies ahead of them in the future, here are a few examples of what
Lincoln had said to his audience.

The Ethics Of Amateur Sports
Amateur sports at the collegiate level are intended to provide young men and women the opportunity
to participate in sporting activities at which they excel while receiving an education that will serve as a
springboard for a future career. The soft skills of team building, sportsmanship, self discipline, and
dedication are often considered to be highly valued and sought after by employers. The camaraderie
and bonding among student athletes is invaluable and unique to this experience. Unfortunately, the
sanctity of collegiate athletics has been tainted by the unethical behavior of the very people purported
to have the best interests of the student athlete at heart. Despite having rules in place against academic
dishonesty, inconsistencies in enforcement of sanctions do little to curb the practice. Penalties for
misconduct will need to be severe and consistent for every institution that is part of the National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for the rampant academic fraud to become the exception to
the rule rather than the norm.
The single greatest incentive for academic dishonesty to occur in regard to college athletics is money.
College sports generate millions of dollars each year. In 2011 12, the NCAA reportedly received $705
million in revenue generated by television broadcasts ( Revenue, 2012). All but about 4% goes
directly back to the schools for their athletic departments. This allows for improvements to stadiums,

Summary Of The Joy Luck Club

Book: The Joy Luck Club
Author: Amy Tan
By: Bala Sundaram
Themes:
A) The Joy luck Club presents a couple of themes but one of which, relates to an issue that is affecting
many immigrant families who bring up their kids in foreign countries. In forwards, the difficulty in
speaking and translating another language. The mothers and daughters in the book have difficulty in
communicating their ideas and feelings with one another. The problems associated with
communicating with one another create a barrier between the mother s Chinese language and the
daughter s English language. The mothers and daughters misunderstand what the other is intending to
say due to the differences in the meanings of their cultural languages. The differences in the languages
are perceived differently by the mother and the daughter leading them to act towards each other
differently. The fragmented use of the two languages is understood by the reader when Jing mei
realizes that some Chinese words cannot be translated into English. Jing mei thinks of her mother as a
failure in society and sets herself apart from her. Her mother is impatient and says that her daughter
doesn t understand the cultural meaning of the Chinese language and doesn t acknowledge the Chinese
heritage. This theme is evident in the book because the characters bring up the frustration associated
with their daughters understanding the Chinese meanings without understanding the Chinese culture.

Uncertainty avoidance The dimension Uncertainty Avoidance has to do with the way that a society
deals with the fact that the future can never be known: should we try to control the future or just let it
happen? This ambiguity brings with it anxiety and different cultures have learnt to deal with this
anxiety in different ways. The extent to which the members of a culture feel threatened by ambiguous
or unknown situations and have created beliefs and institutions that try to avoid these is reflected in
the UAI score. At 30 China has a low score on uncertainty avoidance. Truth may be relative though in
the immediate social circles there is concern for Truth with a capital T and rules (but not necessarily
laws) abound. None the less, adherence to laws and rules may be flexible to suit the actual situation
and pragmatism is a fact of life. The Chinese are comfortable with ambiguity; the Chinese language is
full of ambiguous meanings that can be difficult for Western people to follow. Chinese are adaptable
and entrepreneurial. At the time of writing the majority (70% 80%) of Chinese businesses tend to be
small to medium sized and family owned.
Long term orientation The long term orientation dimension is closely related to the teachings of
Confucius and can be interpreted as dealing with society s search for virtue, the extent to which a
society shows a pragmatic future oriented perspective rather than a conventional historical short term
point of view. With a

which is considered as the best way in terms of understanding and knowledge. This paper presents a
survey on the effective techniques for subjective test assessment. In this, the answers are unstructured
data which have to be evaluated. The evaluation is based on the semantic similarity between the model
answer and the user answer. Different techniques are compared and a new approach is proposed to
evaluate the subjective test assessment of text.
Index terms: Subjective test assessment; Online examinations; Semantic Similarity; Evaluation.
I. INTRODUCTION Although assessment is a tough job, but it can be helpful by making it
computerized. Normally, examinations are of two types objective type such as multiple choice
questions(MCQs) and subjective type such as descriptive answers pattern. Nowadays online
examinations held are multiple choice questions as bank exams, GRE, GMAT, AIEEE, etc. These
examinations are usually MCQs, where the answers are selected out of the given options. The multiple
choice is a form of assessment in which respondents are asked to select the best possible answer (or
answers) out of the choices from a list. If guessing an answer, there s usually a 25 percent chance of
getting it correct on a 4 answer choice question. Finding the right answer from multiple

Second Commander Henslowe Character Analysis
Second Commander Henslowe stood at King Gabriel Wylie side, briefing him on the severity of the
sickness and the plight it has become. It has spread throughout the Northern Hills, killing the livestock
and destroying the crops, he spoke in a dire tone with his back to the members of the king s council,
the royal seeker, and his apprentices, placing horse pieces on the inflicted areas of a map of the realm.
My men have done everything the Royal Seeker Cornwallis has advised. And still, the death toll and
the numbers of those afflicted have risen in the last hour.
The king turns his head to the door, looking past Prince Fabian, who is the last to enter the study.
Where s uncle? He should ve been here by now.

Your majesty, I know what you re going to asks me, and the answer is still no. I know you want to
believe, King David is responsible, but I yet to have a vision proving it.
King Gabriel draws a deep breath. He needed someone, other than himself to blame.
The king never pretended to be the most intelligent man in the room. He knew in doing so, he would
lose his edge against his enemy. For him, his pleasure came from outsmarting those who
underestimated him.
He gazes at the horse pieces with a pensive stare, searching his mind for any resolution to aid him in
ridding his lands of this ravaging plague, while those around him converse quietly amongst
themselves.
Time slowly ticks by with no solution to the threat consuming his realm.
The king slumps back in his chair, feeling betrayed by his convictions, powerless to cure the
uncertainty, wondering why the Gods had forsaken him by allowing misery and suffering to plague his
life.
He finally broke away from his thoughts, muttering them aloud for all to hear. This doesn t make
sense. Uncle should have been back by now. I wonder what s keeping

Esperanza s Dream House
The place where a person lives often provides insight into their life. As implied by the title of the
novel The House on Mango Street, the novel placed a strong focus on the places where people lived
and how they related to the people themselves. Two characters houses stand out in this novel in
particular: the houses belonging to Esperanza and Sally. Through the description of the appearance of
the two houses and how each person feels while inside their house, Cisneros created a striking contrast
between the two houses.
One of the most prominent places mentioned in the novel is Esperanza s dream house. Although
appearing like a dilapidated house from the outside, the house on Mango Street was rewarding to

Stylisticism In The Swimmer Poem
The Liffey Swim is a painting capturing the annual Dublin river race. It cleverly depicts the crowd
gathered flowing out of the painting. This makes the viewer feel like they are a part of the artwork and
action that is taking place in the painting. The crowd leaning forward and the passengers passing by
on the tram trying to catch a glimpse of the race, bring the viewers eyes to the three swimmers
portrayed trying to see for themselves, what everyone is paying attention too. Yeats captures the
atmosphere and thrill of an event that has been part of Dublin s annual sporting calendar since 1920 1.

They both portray people during important life events and memories. The most obvious difference is
the abandonment of realism and trying to portray the scenes truthfully. In the first painting, The Liffey
Swim, Yeats evidently tries to be precise and accurate and to depict the scene truthfully. Yeats, in his
early works, adopted Sickett s use of short thick strokes of paint and his manner of correlating colour
2. The colours he used are very neutral, mostly browns, dark blues, muddy reds, and dull yellows,
with a contrasting light blue sky which brightens the painting. His use of warm and cold colours

contrast between the warm earthy colours in the foreground and the cool blue colours in the
background create variety. The waves in the water create a sense of motion and are slightly more
curved around the swimmers showing their impact on the movement of the water. The people depicted
leaning forward also create a sense of motion and action taking place. This sense of movement directs

A Short Note On The De Los Datos
recopilada.

The War Was Ended As An Armistice Of The Great War
On the 18th of November 1918, the guns fell silent, the Great War was ended as an Armistice was
signed with Germany. Two months later in January 1919, delegates from all over the world came to
Paris to conclude the peace settlement that would end the war. Six months of intense discussions and
debates ended up on the signing of Treaty of Versailles. Three major figures dominated the peace
making, with the less noticeable presence of a forth one, that are namely: the American president
Wilson, the French Prime Minister Clemenceau, and the British Prime Minister Lloyd Georges and the
passive Italy personified by the Prime Minister Orlando. Those peacemakers are seen by many
(scholars, historians, politics...) as injudicious and dogmatic. They were also perceived as vindictive
with respect to the fate they have reserved to Germany. But on the other hand many historians and
scholars revisited the series of events that took place at Paris in 1919 and challenge the view that this
peace was a truncated one. These authors argue that the Peace conference was a real attempt to
reshape the international system with an innovative concept breaking with the old balance of power
that presided over Europe s destiny for over a century. The peacemakers faced dilemmas that still hold
a grip on the world today (the ethnic nationalism issue). Albeit the Peace of Versailles showed many
flaws and imprecision regarding the actions to take within the framework of the collective security, it

especially critical to the success of large, medium, and small businesses. For example, in the

understanding of how computers are used in the Healthcare industry, an interview was conducted with
an IT Professional working for a Contract Research Organization (CRO) focusing on Clinical

The Ratio And Cash Ratio
Liquidity is the ability to convert any asset into cash quickly. Liquidity is important because liquid
assets can provide cash that can be reinvested into other assets when prices are low. This can also
reduce some investing risks by ensuring that an investor will be able to quickly react to market moves.
There are several ratios that are used to measure liquidity the current, quick, and cash ratios.
Essentially, the higher the current asset ratio, the better. Amazon s current ratio (107%) is higher than
that of Walmart (83%) and this suggests that this company s short term assets are more readily
available to pay off the company s short term liabilities than Walmart.
Amazon s quick ratio and cash ratio are also higher than that of ... Show more content on

A higher margin percentage indicates a higher profitability. Therefore, Amazon (27.2) would appear to
be more profitable than Walmart (24.9). In their 2013 financial report, Amazon demonstrates that their
gross profit margin has increased in 2013 compared to prior years which they attribute to their
increase in their total sales/service sales.
The operating profit margin is another quantitative measure of profitability. Investors pay close
attention to this ratio because positive and negative trends in the operating margin are attributable to
management decisions. Amazon s operating profit margin (1.0) is significantly lower than that of
Walmart (5.90). This means that a net profit of $5.90 is made on each dollar of sales at Walmart
whereas Amazon only makes a net profit of $1.00 on each dollar of sales. This indicates that a higher
proportion of Walmart s revenue is converted to operating income. Over the past few years, Amazon s
operating margin ratio has actually declined which signifies that their probability is not improving as
of resent times. In comparison, Walmart s operating margin has been consistent or stable for the past
few years.
Net profit margin is most often mentioned when discussing the profitability of a company because
investors can see a great deal from a net profit analysis For example, this measurement allows them to

Poverty In A Thousand Splendid Suns
An experience is a personal involvement or observation of an occurrence by a person. Every day,
various people experience different events of their lives and learn from these many undertakings.
People, however, cannot experience everything, but rather only experience what they undergo.
Nevertheless, for others to distinguish different accomplishments that they cannot be a part of, many
learn from the experiences of others. In the book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, written by Khaled
Hosseini, characters are exposed to life changing events that affect themselves and the ones around
them. In the text, the characters help readers in becoming familiar with the experiences that they are

Firstly, the novel displays the effects poverty has on the characters well being. For example, in the
book, Aziza s ribs [begin] to push through the skin [...] and her complexion [turns] the color of weak
tea. [...] [Furthermore,] Zalmai [lies] around the house, eyes dulled and half closed, or in his father s
lap limp as a rag (Hosseini 272). This exhibits the change in the characters health as poverty distresses
them. As there is an insufficient amount of needs to support the family, the novel shows that the
children begin to become weak and skinny and lose the vitality they had beforehand. After scarcity,
readers view the harsh circumstances poverty brings upon the family with the absence of necessities.
Readers are able to understand the experience of poverty as they grasp on how the children s well
being has altered. In addition, the stress of living in scarcity collapses personal relationships. For
instance, after the fire, Rasheed [is] home almost every day. He [is] fired from the kebab house [...]
because he and a customer [get] in a scuffle [...] [After he is home], he [finds] fault with Laila, the
way she [dresses], the way she [combs] her hair, her yellowing teeth (Hosseini 271). Ultimately,
Rasheed presents the opportunity to receive money for the family, but fails to work in a mannerly way.
Once Rasheed is home, he believes Laila is unkempt. This shows an unfair conviction because they
cannot afford to maintain a pleasant appearance, and it is his fault they cannot pay for things because
he is the only one that can obtain a job, as women cannot work. This shows an effect on personal
connections as readers are able to observe an experience of a personal relationship weakening because
of poverty and Rasheed s unfair thoughts due to lack of money. Overall, the book displays the
experience of being affected by poverty through the change of the characters health and the
breakdown of

The passing of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 has caused the current state of rapid
increase of drones all across the United States. The Modernization and Reform Act modernize the
nation s aviation system and opened up the skies for unmanned drones by the later part of 2015.
Consequently, the Federal Aviation Administration had to find ways of implementing these drones into
our modern society smoothly. The numerous instances of nearby collisions between drones and airline

1). The question these stakeholders are trying to figure out is should banning drones be an effective
solution to reducing the number of them in the sky. Consequently, banning drones in the states would
economically impact our country. Therefore, we should examine drone practices in the states.
In addition, many groups use these drones to operate their jobs. Groups such as the military and law
enforcements uses drones to help complete their tasks of protecting the people and enforcing the law
in this country. Also, photographers use drones to capture shot from higher elevations to expand their
photo angles. Micahaelle Bond believes that 20,000 will be purchased annually by public safety

since drones are becoming increasingly useful by numerous sectors. These stakeholders tend to
question the use of drones valuable to numerous industries. Therefore, drones becoming illegal would
be an unnecessary action by the federal government as they use drones to better protect the lives of
people.
However, the advancement of technological drones has caused a concern with non drone users. These
non users typically fear of cameras capturing them in their everyday life; therefore, they fear drones
are invading their privacy since these stakeholders tend to question the beneficial economic impact of

Classification of Price Elasticity of Demand
Classification of Price Elasticity of Demand 1. Price Elastic Demand (% ΔQd % ΔP) ϵ 1 If the value
of price elasticity coefficient is greater than one in absolute value. This means that a small change in
price results to a greater change in quantity demanded. Goods which are elastic tend to have some or
all of the following characteristics: They are luxury goods They are expensive and a big % of income
e.g. sports cars and holidays Goods with many substitutes and a very competitive market. E.g. if
Simsbury s put up the price of its bread there are many alternatives, so people would be price sensitive

For example, if Sky increase the cost of premiership pay per view, many football fans will pay the
extra price. Though because it isn t a necessity, demand may be less inelastic than say petrol. Tap
water. For householders, tap water is a necessity, with no alternatives. If the water company increase
the cost of water bills, people would keep buying the service. It would have to rise to a very high price
before people disconnected their water supply. This is why tap water is regulated. Diamonds. Bought
very infrequently, diamonds are the ultimate luxury with few exact alternatives. You could buy other
precious gems, but others may not have the same allure as diamonds. A cut in price wouldn t increase
demand very much. Peak rail tickets. For commuters who rely on the train to get to work in London,
demand will be very inelastic. If price of fares from Surbiton to London increase, demand will only
fall by a small amount. The alternatives for commuting into London, such as driving are limited.
Apple iPhones, iPads. The Apple brand is so strong that many consumers will pay a premium for
apple products. If the price rises for apple iPhone, many will continue to buy. If it was a less well
known brand like Dell computers, you would expect demand to be price elastic. References:

A New Alliance For A Future North American Union
The three relatively unpopular governments presently enthroned in Washington, Ottawa and Mexico
City, joined in very large companies, most of them American, to establish the foundation for a future
North American Union. This is a new alliance of permanent type within which the Americans have a
de facto predominant influence. It would force Canada and Mexico to harmonize many laws and
regulations in the interests of the world of Big Business and those of US administrations primarily
concerned with their imperial ambitions and undemocratic worldwide. It is obvious that such a
continental thrust integration plan, both economically and politically, is substantially different from
the original idea of fair and free trade in goods and services, through the abolition tariff and non tariff
barriers between the countries of the hemisphere. This idea first took shape with the free trade
agreement of 1988 between Canada and the United States. Subsequently, in 1994, Canada had to
accept that Mexico is joining the North American Free Trade Agreement, also forcing him to make
substantial concessions on the application of the Investment Canada Act, which governs foreign
takeovers of Canadian companies, in addition to ensuring the US privileged access to Canadian energy
resources. All this should have been enough to open the US market to Canadian companies. It seems,
however, that this is not the case. Large corporations and the US government want to use the pretext
of fighting terrorism

How Did Ww1 Affect The Economy Of Canada
World War I was just a stepping stone for the Canadian nation, it was their efforts in the Second World
War that Canada really became independent. The short term losses gave Canada long term benefits. Its
economic growth, international respect, and political standing gave her recognition and more
importantly, it shaped itself as an independent country. Canada was a widespread name after the
victory on D Day. What was previously a colony of Britain, became an international power house on
its own. As war erupted, Canada began to supply many resources and raw material to the war, which
created a boom in the economy. Factories sprouted across Canada due to the exceeding demand of war
material. Lots of factories converted their production line to help the effort, putting more money into
the flow. In the pre war period agriculture was an important section of the economy, however the war
changed that drastically as industry was required. As the war started and by 1942 thousands of
Canadian men and women found employment. In the post war period naturally big investments were

Review Of Sonny Hickam s Sky Of Stone
The autobiographical and regional novel Sky of Stone by Homer Sonny Hickam Jr. is an astonishing
journey through the life of Sonny, during his summer of 1961, after his first year of college at the
Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VIT), and his time spent in Coalwood, West Virginia, where his father,
who is also named Homer, is accused of negligence in the death of mine foreman Tuck Dillion
(Hickam, Sky of Stone 2001). The author, Sonny Hickam, grew up in Coalwood, West Virginia, and
his written many novels on his experiences growing up in Coalwood, including the critically

The relationships in Hickam s writing are that of his relationship with his parents, his parents with
each other, and the relationships of the towns folk together. Near the beginning of the novel Sonny s
relationship with his father is emphasized as being very distant, especially when Homer Sr. explains to
Sonny that I don t need your help when Sonny offered to stay with his father for the summer (Hickam,
Sky of Stone 2001). Sonny s relationship with his father allowed him to become a changed man,
where Sonny decides to stick up for himself after his father ordered him to quit working in the mine or
he would be cut off from his college funds. Sonny s reaction to this was I m not quitting, which can be
seen as an evolution in the relationship between the two (Hickam, Sky of Stone 2001). Sonny s
relationship with his mother is different from that of his father s, and Sonny seems to be closer to his
mother, who frequently calls to check on Sonny with almost half the town. The relationship of Sonny s
parents, Homer Sr. and Elsie, is also complicated, and in the novel, the reader sees the two spread
further apart until the end of the novel, when Elsie finds out what really happened to her fox,
Parkycarcass, which had originally opened a gap in there relationship. The relationship between those
of the towns people is also emphasized in the novel with

  • 4. Paramount Decision Vs Hollywood Blacklist The Paramount decision and the Hollywood blacklist were two major milestones that brought dramatic changes to the film industry. The Paramount decision was a ruling made by the Supreme Court in 1948, against the activities of the major studios called the Big 5, which were the main fully integrated film studios between 1920 and 1948. The ruling stated that the major studios practiced bad business tactics that included block booking and blind buying and that this in fact formed a monopoly of the film industry. But at the very end of it all she reminds me of how and why I want to teach. Through all of what she sees and does she reminds the reader of what she is there to do: make an impact on a child s life by inspiring them to learn, create and explore. Esme uses some unique teaching methods in her first year, some I have experienced before and some that made me go back and reread in disbelief. Her experience as a first year teacher is ... • 7. Rising Imperialism In 19th And Early 20th Century The rising imperialism during the late 19th and early 20th century is often portrayed throughout the course of the book. European countries along with US were all in a race to gain control over the rest of the world. They started to control big territories in Asia, Africa, and South America. They conquered these areas through military force and exploration, often exploiting their new lands and conquered peoples using them for labor and hurting them if they didn t cooperate. They used these new territories to gain power and wealth. During this time Belgium attempts to build its own empire in the Congo. Sir Henry Morton Stanley, an explorer who was sent and funded by King Leopold, was sent to conquer the Congo for King Leopold and for Belgium. Once they conquered the Congo they exported many of the riches and treasures, without anything being imported. The first modern international scandal was King Leopold s invasion of the Congo, he conquered and ruled through exploration and deception. At this time European countries countries like Britain, Spain, Portugal, France, and Belgium were all in a race to gain more territory and to expand their control. Portugal was in the lead and Belgium was lagging far behind in this race for power. Belgium was smaller country that was new at the time and still trying to expand their country. The extent to which the members of a culture feel threatened by ambiguous or unknown situations and have created beliefs and institutions that try to avoid these is reflected in the UAI score. • 30. The War Was Ended As An Armistice Of The Great War On the 18th of November 1918, the guns fell silent, the Great War was ended as an Armistice was signed with Germany. Two months later in January 1919, delegates from all over the world came to Paris to conclude the peace settlement that would end the war. Six months of intense discussions and debates ended up on the signing of Treaty of Versailles. Three major figures dominated the peace making, with the less noticeable presence of a forth one, that are namely: the American president Wilson, the French Prime Minister Clemenceau, and the British Prime Minister Lloyd Georges and the passive Italy personified by the Prime Minister Orlando. Those peacemakers are seen by many (scholars, historians, politics...) as injudicious and dogmatic. They were also perceived as vindictive with respect to the fate they have reserved to Germany. But on the other hand many historians and scholars revisited the series of events that took place at Paris in 1919 and challenge the view that this peace was a truncated one. These authors argue that the Peace conference was a real attempt to reshape the international system with an innovative concept breaking with the old balance of power that presided over Europe s destiny for over a century. The peacemakers faced dilemmas that still hold a grip on the world today (the ethnic nationalism issue). Albeit the Peace of Versailles showed many flaws and imprecision regarding the actions to take within the framework of the collective security, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Liquidity is important because liquid assets can provide cash that can be reinvested into other assets when prices are low. This can also reduce some investing risks by ensuring that an investor will be able to quickly react to market moves. There are several ratios that are used to measure liquidity the current, quick, and cash ratios. Essentially, the higher the current asset ratio, the better. Therefore, Amazon (27.2) would appear to be more profitable than Walmart (24.9). In their 2013 financial report, Amazon demonstrates that their gross profit margin has increased in 2013 compared to prior years which they attribute to their increase in their total sales/service sales. The operating profit margin is another quantitative measure of profitability. Investors pay close attention to this ratio because positive and negative trends in the operating margin are attributable to management decisions. Amazon s operating profit margin (1.0) is significantly lower than that of Walmart (5.90). This means that a net profit of $5.90 is made on each dollar of sales at Walmart whereas Amazon only makes a net profit of $1.00 on each dollar of sales. This indicates that a higher proportion of Walmart s revenue is converted to operating income. Over the past few years, Amazon s operating margin ratio has actually declined which signifies that their probability is not improving as of resent times. Every day, various people experience different events of their lives and learn from these many undertakings. People, however, cannot experience everything, but rather only experience what they undergo. Nevertheless, for others to distinguish different accomplishments that they cannot be a part of, many learn from the experiences of others. In the book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, written by Khaled Hosseini, characters are exposed to life changing events that affect themselves and the ones around them. For example, in the book, Aziza s ribs [begin] to push through the skin [...] and her complexion [turns] the color of weak tea. [...] [Furthermore,] Zalmai [lies] around the house, eyes dulled and half closed, or in his father s lap limp as a rag (Hosseini 272). This exhibits the change in the characters health as poverty distresses them. As there is an insufficient amount of needs to support the family, the novel shows that the children begin to become weak and skinny and lose the vitality they had beforehand. After scarcity, readers view the harsh circumstances poverty brings upon the family with the absence of necessities. Readers are able to understand the experience of poverty as they grasp on how the children s well being has altered. In addition, the stress of living in scarcity collapses personal relationships. For instance, after the fire, Rasheed [is] home almost every day. Ultimately, Rasheed presents the opportunity to receive money for the family, but fails to work in a mannerly way. Once Rasheed is home, he believes Laila is unkempt. This shows an unfair conviction because they cannot afford to maintain a pleasant appearance, and it is his fault they cannot pay for things because he is the only one that can obtain a job, as women cannot work. This shows an effect on personal connections as readers are able to observe an experience of a personal relationship weakening because of poverty and Rasheed s unfair thoughts due to lack of money. This is a new alliance of permanent type within which the Americans have a de facto predominant influence. It would force Canada and Mexico to harmonize many laws and regulations in the interests of the world of Big Business and those of US administrations primarily concerned with their imperial ambitions and undemocratic worldwide. It is obvious that such a continental thrust integration plan, both economically and politically, is substantially different from the original idea of fair and free trade in goods and services, through the abolition tariff and non tariff barriers between the countries of the hemisphere. This idea first took shape with the free trade agreement of 1988 between Canada and the United States. Subsequently, in 1994, Canada had to accept that Mexico is joining the North American Free Trade Agreement, also forcing him to make substantial concessions on the application of the Investment Canada Act, which governs foreign takeovers of Canadian companies, in addition to ensuring the US privileged access to Canadian energy resources.
