Comparing Women In Athens And Sparta
Women in Athens and Sparta were treated completely different. Women in Sparta were viewed more
equally, while the women in Athens were treated like slaves. Women in a Greek city/state known as
Athens, were not educated, and were treated the same if not worse than slaves (Athenian, 2005). In
Athens, Women lived in a society completely dominated by men (O Pry, 2012). This all ended when
the women of Sparta (a Greek city/state) were seen overcoming these issues. The life of a woman in
Athens was completely different than a Spartan. Women were treated differently, in Sparta they could
manage the land, have their own public opinion, and were treated equal as men, while women in
Athens had no public or political rights. Not only was this a big ... Show more content on

Spartan women definitely over ruled the other Greek city/states. Both Athenian and Spartan women
still had no political rights, but they could give their own political opinions to men (O Pry,2012). The
women in Athens couldn t leave their homes, therefore they couldn t talk to men. In Sparta the women
ran all estates and had all rights to go out in public (Fleck, 2007). In Athens, Greece No women,
foreigners, or slaves were considered citizens (O Pry, 2012). This changed in Sparta when the women
came out ruling their city/state. Spartans educated them much in the same way as the boys attending
school (O Pry, 2012). While in Athens, had little to no education. In Athens no women had a choice of
who they married. This was all decided by the father. The women in Athens did have the right to
divorce, but had to get permission from her husband first, and had the chance of losing custody of her
children. In Sparta women had the right to marry and divorce as needed. If a woman s husband was at
war to long they had the right to remarry (Athenian, 2005). This was something researchers have
never seen before causing them to become very confused on this situation. Even though Sparta came
out looking strong they had their downfalls. When the population of children started to go down,
because the expenses were going up, the helots came in to attack (Like they did every year). The
helots defeated them due to the military downsize. This caused Spartans to believe women were the
cause, Spartans lost all the land they conquered in Messenia, and were now just like all the regular
Greek city/states. Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end (Robin
Sharma). In the end it probably turned out not to be a bad idea

Yeats’ Leda and the Swan and Van Duyn s Leda Essay
Yeats Leda and the Swan and Van Duyn s Leda
In Greek mythology, Leda, a Spartan queen, was so beautiful that Zeus, ruler of the gods, decided he
must have her. Since immortals usually did not present themselves to humankind in their divine forms,
Zeus changed himself into a great swan and in that shape ravished the helpless girl (Carey 58 59).
Both William Butler Yeats and Mona Van Duyn base their poems Leda and the Swan and Leda,
respectively, on this story of a mystic marriage. Yeats focus on the sexual act itself, along with his
allusions to Leda s progeny, manifest a grave and terrifying tone. While he raises Leda to a status
similar to that of Mary, mother of Jesus, Van Duyn portrays Leda as a universal mother. ... Show more

Yeats question concerning Leda s recognization of Zeus ( And how can body . . . but feel the strange
heart beating where it lies? ), in a sense, queries how can man not recognize Lucifer by his deception
and God by his virtue?
Rather than recounting the rape itself, Van Duyn emphasizes the characterization of Leda, a
representative of all women. The line her mind closed on a bird and went to sleep implies that Leda
does not even imagine that the bird is anything more than just that, a bird. She lacks both intelligence
and curiosity, and hence reverts to her purpose in life, the act of giving. Leda s openness in this line
refers to her willingness to submit, To give: women and gods are alike in enjoying that ceremony,
find[ing] its smoke filling and sweet. 1 (337) Unlike the resistance Leda attempts in Yeats poem, Van
Duyn s Leda willingly provides her body for sexual pleasure, for she only wants to please the bird,
symbolic of man.
Van Duyn briefly mentions Zeus parasitic actions. She contends that Zeus enjoys his exploitation of
Leda solely because of his narcissism2, for he seeks his own reflection in the eyes of the women he
victimizes ( collecting these rare pictures of himself was his life ) (337). Reflecting her own feminist
beliefs, Van Duyn implies that men are selfish, using women for sex simply to satisfy their own
passions.
On the other hand, Yeats converges solely on the sketch of Zeus, revealing both a playboy and a

Speech On The Ozone Layer
1) The ozone layer is a layer of ozone high up in the Earth s atmosphere stratosphere. The word ozone
means smelly in Greek because the gas has a strong odor. The ozone layer was discovered in 1913 by
the French physicists Charles Fabry and Henri Buisson. Ozone is created in the stratosphere when
high energy UV radiation causes on O2 molecule to split. The free oxygen atoms collide and react
with other O2 molecules to form O3. The exact amount of ozone that can be found varies, the seasons
influence it; it is also different in different places on the Earth. This layer can absorb between 93 and
99 per cent of the ultraviolet radiation from the sun. This radiation is dangerous to many living
organisms on Earth. However, due to its high reactivity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are compounds used for refrigerants, fire extinguishers, and aerosol propellants. CFCs were
invented in the 1920s and were originally thought to be environmentally friendly, but time proved
otherwise. CFCs are very stable and do not dissolve in rain. Thus, there are no natural processes that
remove the CFCs from the lower atmosphere. Over time, winds drive the CFCs into the stratosphere.
The CFCs are so stable that only exposure to strong UV radiation breaks them down. When that
happens, the CFC molecule releases atomic chlorine. One chlorine atom can destroy over 100,000
ozone molecules. The net effect is to destroy ozone faster than it is naturally created. In 1974, two
scientists named Sherwood Rowland and Mario Molina were able to demonstrate how CFCs were
splitting ozone molecules into atmospheric oxygen and chlorine monoxide molecules, and this work
earned them the 1995 Nobel Prize in chemistry. Their research helped put new policy into motion, and
by 1979, the U.S. and other countries had banned CFCs in aerosol sprays, but not for other

Paganism Vs Vegetarianism
Imagine if the apocalypse happened and the only viable food was the family dog, would it be immoral
to eat the dog to survive? What if instead of a dog, it was the family s pig? The majority of American
people would believe it s more morally justified to eat the pig than the dog which reduces the pig to a
mere piece of bacon. The United States is a profit driven country which is reflected by their
mistreatment of farm animals and can be seen by its peoples anthropocentric and hypocritical views.
The Animal Welfare Act is the only Federal law that manages animal treatment in the means of
transport, research, and by dealers (USDA). Although this law conveys the impression that all animals
will have a basic standard of treatment, this isn t the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This comes to show that the support for veganism and vegetarianism is an ecological, ethical, or
health concern issue, Nearly all plant eaters have fermenting vats (enlarged chambers where foods sits
and microbes attack it). Ruminants like cattle and deer have forward sacs derived from remodeled
esophagus and stomach. Horses, rhinos, and colobine monkeys have posterior, hindgut sacs. Humans
have no such specializations.. The short canines in humans are a functional consequence of the
enlarged cranium and associated reduction of the size of the jaws. In archeological sites, broken
human molars are most often confused with broken premolars and molars of pigs, a classic omnivore
(VRG). Although there is evidence to back up humans being omnivores, is it morally justified for
humans to eat meat when survival is not a threat? If one s morals say no, there s many diets that exist
that don t include animals. A vegan diet consists of not consuming any animal products. Humans
choose this diet for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is to cut down on animal cruelty.
Jonathan Safran Foer talks about the morality of harming animals for food in his book Eating Animals,
What our babysitter said made sense to me, not only because it seemed true, but because it was the
extension to food of everything my parents had taught me. We don t hurt family members. We don t
hurt friends or strangers. We don t even hurt upholstered furniture. My not having thought to include
animals in that list didn t make them the exceptions to it. It just made me a child, ignorant of the world
s workings (Foer). This portrays how humans have a hierarchy of what is acceptable and what is not.
One s treatment of animals comes from this cultural hierarchy. In different cultures, the hierarchy will
shift, for example, within parts of the Jewish religion and culture

The Minor Prophet Hosea As A Young Man Lived Near Soil
Isidore E. Sharpe
Professor Kenneth Yelverton
OTS 102
18 September 2015
The Minor Prophet Hosea
The Prophet Hosea is believed to the successor of the Prophet Amos. Hosea was the only writing
prophet of Israel to Israel. The name Hosea (Heb., Hoshea) means salvation. It is interesting to
observe that the names Joshua (Num 13:16) and Jesus (Matt 1:21) are derived from the same Hebrew
root as Hosea. (Jensen, 6739) His father name Beeri, a middle class merchant, a farmer or cattleman.
It is uncertain about the born place of Hosea; it could have been in a town of Ephraim or Manasseh.
Due to his style of writing, the Prophet Hosea as a young man lived near soil.
Hosea most likely did not attend a school of prophets, or have any formal training in a school of the
prophets, but you could not tell that he did not go to the school of prophets. Hosea writing was abrupt,
short, and sharp. His writings show him to be a very knowledgeable man. Scroggie says, His message
is one of the most profound and spiritual in the Old Testament. (Scroggie). The heartbeat of God is the
tone of the author, throughout the book. He declared the words of thus saith the LORD several times.
(Jensen, 6780) It is not known originally, when God called him to be a prophet.
Hosea may have been one with tender hearted prophets toward Israel. He had many titles as a prophet,
the prophet of the broken heart; the weeping prophet; and the prophet of Israel s zero hour, because
the nation had sunk to

I Sat Down For A Discussion With One Of The Attorneys At...
In August 2016, I sat down for a discussion with one of the attorneys at Hotze Runkle, Justin Dunlap.
Mr. Dunlap had just joined the firm a month earlier as part of the firm s expansion into pharmaceutical
litigation, an area of practice that he has had years of experience prior to joining the firm. He
graciously took the time one afternoon to sit down and allow me to conduct an interview with him.
First, I asked him to discuss his educational background and how he began to practice law. Mr.
Dunlap, a native of the Dallas area, completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Kansas
where he studied history. He said that while he thoroughly enjoyed his degree program s content, he
did not see a future career for him with history and given that many of his older family members,
including his mother, were practicing lawyers, law school seemed to him to be a natural next step for
him. He returned to Dallas to get his law degree from Southern Methodist University (SMU). He said
that, he felt extremely lucky that his parents were able to help finance his legal education, so finances
were not a major factor in his law school decision. When I asked him how he came to choose SMU,
he indicated that the two most prominent factors were the location in the state he wished to practice
and the school s estimable reputation in Texas and the surrounding states. Mr. Dunlap told me that
once he got to law school, he was sure that he wanted to work for the JAG Corps once he was

Igor Stravinsky Rite Of Spring
A critique of The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky and Folding by Shen Wei On November 22th, I
enjoyed the Rite of Spring and Folding at Centennial Hall in U of A. Both of them shocked me by
their unique way of performances. From the very beginning, The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky
strengthens in a volatile sense of harmonious movements. The Rite of Spring is quite different from
classical ballets whose subtle interchange of the curvaceous, subjective lithesome in the flow of time
that romanticism savored. In this particular dance which was carefully planned by Igor Stravinsky,
Stravinsky s rhythms hit and batter; although highly asymmetric they are still pounded in such a new
way that the score requires innovation in harmonious representation to make Stravinsky s invention
workable. In this dance, there is no way are these rhythms presented subtly, in fact, they are habitually
stricken out in harmony by the huge orchestra that the work uses. Undeniably, one of the most
enjoyable facets of a noble performance, even without dance convention, is the way that it looks.
Their grey outfit and sporadic black tops make them a perfect blend. ... Show more content on

It was as if there was nobody and only the ghost like dancers onstage accompanied by irregular music
terrified me. So as to concentrate on the listener s discernment on the rhythm, musical material,
Stravinsky at times reduces to tiny repetitive configurations of a simple two or three pitch. In tandem
with this rectilinear plainness, The Rite of Spring s gargantuan crunching synchronizations move at
the stride of glaciers, this gradual harmonic movement puzzlingly magnifying the general sense of
drive and energy. These structures of sound, although distressingly dissonant for an audience in 1913,
are selected with perfect modification, and they reinforce Stravinsky s complete arc with a structural
indemnity on a practically Beethovenian

Dartmouth College V. Woodward Summary
Dartmouth College v. Woodward:
Dartmouth College is a private charter school. It was founded in 1769 in the state that would become
New Hampshire in 1776. Because of the creation of the state, Woodward, who was representing New
Hampshire, wanted to declare the school as public. The Supreme Court ruling upheld Dartmouth as
private. This was an important case because it meant that the state could not overrule private
institutions/ organizations. It created the American free enterprise system and allowed corporations to
have rights. This case proved the validity of contracts and created the United States business stability.

The Controversy Over U.S. Domestic Surveillance
Ever since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and an
area in Pennsylvania, in which nearly 3,000 helpless individuals were killed, the U.S. Congress began
to pass legislation that would strengthen the United State s counterterrorism efforts. Less than a month
after the horrific attack, the National Security Agency (NSA) started a special collection program with
intentions to track communications among suspected terrorists and Al Qaeda leaders. Then on October
4, 2001, President George W. Bush authorized the NSA to monitor domestic communications in order
to track down suspected terrorists. Two problems shortly arose from Bush s decision: the fact that his
authorization to NSA was carried out in secret and also that monitoring the domestic communications
was done without a warrant. This proved to be illegal since the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance
Act states that the government is prohibited from eavesdropping inside the United States without first
getting a warrant from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA court). In order to counteract
the issues he had caused, on October 26, 2001 Bush signed the Patriot Act; a law that would expand
the government s electronic surveillance powers. After signing this law Bush stated, The existing law
was written in the era of rotary telephones. This new law that I sign today will allow surveillance of
all communications used by terrorists, including emails, the

Florence Nightingale Contributions
Florence Nightingale was born May 12th, 1820 named after Florence, Italy, where she was born. At
just one year old Florence moved to England because her father owned Lea Hurst, a country house, in
Derbyshire and was extremely wealthy. When Florence was five years old, her mother Fanny
convinced her husband to move to Emely Park where the Nightingales would have more
entertainment. Although this made Fanny happy, Florence was miserable with the consistent guests
and chatter. She preferred to be alone with her thoughts. Growing up she was only taught the things a
good wife and mother would need to know, including; music, dance, needlework and art lessons. In
the 1800s women weren t expected to receive an education based on the core subjects, they learned
things that would help them become the best care taker they could be. Since Florence was considered
upper class, it was highly unlikely for her to ever have a job. But as Florence grew older she became
very neat and organized. She enjoyed numbers and placing data into tables. At the age of eight she
taught herself French and always did the right thing because she believed that s what god wanted.
Once Florence turned twelve her father, William Nightingale insisted on her and Parthenope, her older
sister, to be well educated. William taught his two daughters the following languages; Latin, Greek,
French, Italian, and German. Then he had them learn all about history, philosophy, ethics,
composition, the bible, and mathematics.

Athens and Sparta were once city states in Greece who lived in harmony with several different beliefs.
Sparta was a military based city state, they had 100 percent military participation to provide the

leaders to make the right decisions in the eyes of a tactical or military standpoint.Their economy was
depended mainly on agriculture . Sparta believed in equality allowing women to receive the same

With the knowledge he possessed, he influenced the whole city state which he controlled to further

and his ability to capture lands and seize their silver. His excellent leadership skills as a king
influenced all of the Macedonia and gave them the surge of power that they all wanted, through his
several military campaigns seizing lands and silver allowed him to be considered a paradigm for any
leader. Alexander the Great passed away at the age of 32 from a fever while he was in Babylon, after
his passing all the wealth accumulated was distributed to several military leaders to continue his
influence even after he was gone. The republic of Rome was a very long era lasting from 27 BC to
476 AD where the republic was not led by a single person. The Roman Republic operated as three

However, unlike Jimmy, Ruby is the first out of the five children in Stolen to be chosen by a white
family, where her life becomes a constant cycle of sexual and oppressive abuse, manipulated into
staying quiet with gifts. Throughout this, Ruby continually calls out for her mother, as she longs for
the family and love that she lost at a young age. Progressing through the story, Ruby becomes an
unpaid domestic, vulnerable to constant abuse and suffering, whether mental, physical or sexual, and
gradually loses hope and her mind, as she develops a dreadful mental illness that consumes her. At the
plays revolution, she does not recognise her own family and is noticeably broken, as everything she
once had was taken from her, including her sanity.
Ruby conveys that her personality is rather passive, as she is more fragile over the course of the play.
She does not often interact with the other children and stays quiet, due to her abuse and manipulation
keeping her from developing a true personality at such a young age. This periodically becomes a clear
result from these things, as she has forgotten what it feels like to be loved and cared for from when she
lost her mother.
Physicality:
Ruby s movement is frantic and twitchy, with impulsive turns and looks, always fearful and anxious.
When sitting or standing, she will curl up and hold herself or her doll as self protection mechanism.
She is introverted, reflecting how broken she is, even talking to herself instead of others once she has
lost everything.

Summer Sleep-Away Camps
Summer Time Fun As adults, we spend a lot of time away from our family and friends due to work or
other priorities in our life. We learn to adapt and keep going through these times of being away and
this can make us a greater person. Summer sleep away camp is much like a longer version of a
sleepover and can be a great head start for children who may not be away from their family and
friends much. This leads me to feel that summer sleep away camps have positive effects on children
and should even be considered important to the development of a child.
For me, the biggest reason for summer sleep away camps is to help the child develop more. Camps
offer more life experience that are likely to come up in later adulthood. For instance, when I was
younger I went to a camp for a whole month! I was terrified of being away from my parents for that
long, however I overcame this fear and I was able to gain many great experiences and tools I use
today. One thing I improved on was swimming during my time at ... Show more content on

While it is true the child will miss some time with their friends and families, they will however be
making new friends and new memories. These new memories and friends may even allow the child to
show their friends and family new ideas and tricks that improve family life. The child gains new
friends and this is a positive effect especially if the child struggled before with making friends, or even
if the child is shy this is a benefit because they are meeting others who will have something in
common with them.
Going to a sleep away camp is a very beneficial thing for children of all ages. They allow children to
gain new life experiences, new friends, and a better outlook toward adulthood. This in turn can lead to
a better life for the child and their family. Summer sleep away camps should be a very serious
consideration for any child.

Themes in Frankenstein Essay
Frankenstein deals with two main social concerns, the level of moral responsibility that a creator
possesses in relation to his creation, as well as the issue of the moral boundaries that exists in one s
quest for knowledge, including the fine line between good and bad knowledge, The novel also deals
with two main human concerns, which include a person s goals or aspirations as well as the issue of
pride and its affect on a person.
Mary Shelley highlights the issue of moral responsibility by the fact that Frankenstein neglects the
issue at first, but then realises its importance. Frankenstein completely ignores his moral responsibility
in relation to his work initially, blinded by his emotions, but once he realised that he had ... Show

Bad knowledge in contrast, is knowledge that is single minded, driven by personal gain, and possesses
very little constraints.
Pride is probably the most important human issue that Mary Shelley explores, with Frankenstein s
search for knowledge being more a quest for glory than one that was going to genuinely benefit
society. A new species would bless me as it creator and source NO father could claim the gratitude of
his child so completely as I should deserve theirs. Frankenstein s pride is blatantly displayed, as he
disregards, his family, friends and his environment to spend day and night creating the creature, only
to become conscious of the fact that it s a monster. His pride is further shown by the fact that he let s
an innocent woman die just to preserve his reputation by not speaking out. The way pride is portrayed
in the novel indicates that society back then was heavily based on ones reputation and prestige.
Goals or aspirations is closely tied in with the other issues discussed earlier, in that both Frankenstein
and Walton seek glory, but both realise, Frankenstein the hard way that glory comes at a price, and
risks need to be taken in order to achieve one s goal, but its up to that person to decide where the risk
is too great. This issue does reflect the values of Shelley s society, in that the three main

Virginia had always been a very conservative state even after the abolishment of slavery. In fact, there

These contradictions suggest that Europeans had never seen a black man before, and was afraid of
them. It is no surprise Europeans reacted the way they did for we tends to be more cautious around
people we had never seen or met before until we get familiar with them. In a way, I believe the author
was trying to imply that these two races were like yin and yang yin the color of black was described as
darkness/evil and yang the color of white was described as light. To support the above statement, the
author talks about the first Africans that were transported to Virginia, who were described as a people
of beastly living, without a God, law, religion /their color allegedly made them Devil incarnate (50)
and was accused of man eating creature. Europeans feared and discriminate Africans but that didn t
stop them from selling them and making them work in plantation for a certain period of time. In
addition, white blames the African for things they did not do the living image of primitive aggressions
which they said was the Negro but was really their own (50). This statement proved that white
colonizers get away with things by blaming the blacks, insisting that blacks are going to gore the life

or Kleos , that is to be honored and respected among their people. Emphasis is put on living by the
heroic code. Honor is essential to the Greeks and life would not be worth living without it. When a
warrior or hero is advised to avoid risking their life in battle it almost drives them even further
towards the deed. It is better to be killed in action rather than to live and be thought a coward. By our
rational standards one would certainly not be thought a coward if they didn t rush into battle to almost
certain death, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would be brought back to the homeland and displayed as a sign of power; this is how Kleos was
attained, and how respect was earned. To the victor went more than the battle armor. They would
regularly take their pick of the local women to take back with them and lay in bed together . This
became one of the centerpieces for the conflict between Achilleus and Agamemnon, when a quarrel
arose and Achilleus was asked to allow Briseis, a prize that he won in battle, to go back to her land. It
is common to keep your female prizes as your own; however, Achilleus felt that his ego was tested
when he was asked to return her. This went hand in hand with the honor factor, it would be shameful
for him to oblige and give back what he rightfully won. After all, she was a symbol of Kleos, by
giving her back he was losing something which he strived so hard to attain. The Greek warrior was
very selfish, there was no sense of community on their foremost mind, and it was about the self and
their status among others. The warrior who was most feared was the warrior that got the most respect
and admirations from the generations that would follow. The poem is after all about Achilleus, a great
warrior that fought hard and attained much glory in doing so. The shame that one would feel from
avoiding battle is evident in many cases throughout the poem. When Hektor is

Problem Solutions to Global Communication
Problem Solution: Global Communications Global Communication (GC) is facing a significant
challenge in maintaining its competitive while honoring the rights of all stakeholders. Handled
improperly, a push to increase the bottom line can result in a worse financial situation simply due to
organization behavior. To accomplish its goals, GC must not only keep the end state in mind, but also
address the method by which goals are achieved. Communication between stakeholders is essential to
provide a foundation of needs and resources GC has to work with. The effect of emotion on work
product makes it essential that options to outsource and other changes are fully explored for all costs.

Although GC s declining performance is in a completely different industry, the same principle applies
to both companies – a clear statement of what will happen followed by actions that back it up are
necessary to make significant cultural changes. For GC to argue that decrease of operating costs is
prompting the outsourcing, then teams across the company must be subject to budget reductions. This
strategy can be coupled with workflow analysis (see below). A second area for GC to examine in
defining its corporate strategy is where the company s core competencies lie – is GC noted for their
technical team or aggressive marketing strategies. At first glance, a call center does not have much in
common with the telecom industry. But at McKesson, the loss of several FTE positions stimulated
employees to develop a cohesive plan to train coworkers and streamline workflow to allow for the
consolidation of three groups (Levin, 2006). This was accomplished by fully informing affected staff
of upcoming changes and taking their input into consideration to develop/implement a solution. GC
has a similar opportunity in front of them – by including union and staff on the constraints of the
current situation as well as available resources, employees themselves may be able to identify
additional areas of savings while working to retain the employee pool in a redistributed basis. As with
McKesson, GC may find that many strategies that emerge are ones that have been

The Motorcycle Diaries, Natural Lighting And Quick Camera...
In The Motorcycle Diaries, natural lighting and quick camera movements are consistent layers in the
filming technique used. To evoke a greater sense of importance in certain scenes, directional lighting
is used. An important and foreshadowing scene in the film, the ferry from Pucallpa, Peru to the leper
colony shows the division of wealth through soft natural lighting and the use of shadows. This
particular scene uses an important element of mise en scene, lighting, to create a powerful, suggestive
introduction to the culmination of their voyage. The 1 minute sequence is free of dialogue, but
conveys necessary information through subliminal filming techniques. The scene begins with a wide,
overhead crane landscape shot that encapsulates town they re leaving in a shadow, while the ferry is
surrounded by bright, natural light, heading towards the unknown. This particular shadowing may
infer they re leaving the past behind, while the engulfing bright light may indicate a positive future in
their travels. The next shot is a lower side shot that shows the expansive river and the ferry with a
small unidentified boat trailing behind. This scene is void of any structures other than the forest
behind the two boats. Slowly, the boats move down the river with beautiful, soft side lighting from the
natural sunset. The use of this lighting induces a personal connection with the ferry and its respective
travels. Different from a typical Hollywood scene, the side lighting allows for

Romantic Comedies Teach Women Of Stalking
The depicted definition of romance is aspired by every individual who yearns to be wooed in order to
fall in love with their beloved one. Romantic strategies have been defined by society throughout
centuries and has resulted in the upbringing of new ways of pursuing a lover. A man serenating a
woman can be demonstrated through the actions of bringing flowers, planning a dinner, or writing
intimate verses. Today, it is unquestionable that an individual who is in pursue of a lover will do
everything in their power to obtain the heart of their beloved one. However, romantic comedies that
are being produced in Hollywood have been influencing the definition of what romance is and how
stalking can be consider to be romantic. The articles, Romantic Comedies: When Stalking Has a
Happy Ending, by Julie Beck and Romantic Comedies Teach Women that Stalking is a Compliment,
by Chloe Angyal demonstrate how romantic comedies influence individuals to perceive stalking as

Internal Conflict In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
The short story Marigolds by Eugenia Collier discusses many struggles. The main protagonist
Lizabeth battles internally between her inner child and adult and externally with the effects of the
Great Depression. The internal conflict concerns Lizabeth s hesitation toward becoming an adult. The
external focuses on how the Great Depression causes her family to struggle financially. These strifes
directly influence each other.
In the external conflict, Lizabeth and the rest of her shantytown confront poverty and unemployment.
The African American population, including the protagonist, faces the worst of the Great Depression.
The Depression that gripped the nation was no new thing for us, for the black workers of rural
Maryland had always been depressed (Collier, par. 3). The already poverty stricken family scrambles
to find basic necessities, such as clothes and work. As Lizabeth s mother says, Everybody out of work
now, you know that... Ain t nobody got nothing [sic] nowadays (37, 39). Her mother now heads the
household; whereas, her father now sobs like a defenseless child. This man versus society directly
influences the internal conflict. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Federalism In The United States Government
When the founding fathers came together, they realized that they had important things to discuss.
Truthfully because The Articles of Confederation had not been efficient enough for the national
government. The Articles of Confederation left the national government without a judiciary and
independent executive, leaving Congress with most of the power; but it was largely a creature of the
states. This sparked conflicted amongst state which eventually lead to the government s debt. Once
The Founding Fathers realized the poor ethics that the Articles of Confederation had, the first topic
they felt the need to discuss had been federalism. As read in We the People textbook, federalism
means the Constitution s division of governing authority between two levels, nation and states was the
result of political bargaining. As I reflect back on previous lessons/discussions, I find it that
Federalism is an ideology that s written in the constitution to divide power between federal and state
government; even though the term is not bluntly stated. Honorably, the simulation mirrored what took
place in 1787, by having four interest groups and Senators from eight delegations representing their
states interest. The Senators main objective had been to reform the Proposed Legislation for Federal
Anti Smoking Standards bill that could potentially benefit both their locals and local government. For
the duration of the simulation, both the interest groups and Senators demonstrated the

Understanding The Chinese Business Practices Essay
Conducting business in China necessitates a large amount of respect, patience, humility, timing,
cunning, knowledge, and a certain amount of aggression. The knowledge that these are needed and
that are to be used for success in negotiating is virtually worthless unless you are aware of when and
how to use them. The missing of cue to change from being patient to aggressive, or being humble
instead of cunning, can make or break a negotiation instantaneously. Americans that aspire to obtain a
sector of the Chinese market must invest the time in understanding the sources of Chinese culture and
not just the culture itself. Within the adoption of today s Chinese business practices, is insight into the
ancient history of a culture that has not just survived. This society has flourished longer than any other
civilization in the history mankind. The knowledge of only what we want to achieve from an
individual negotiation with a Chinese business person is very near sided and will most certainly end in
a poor relationship. Instead, there must be a firm understanding of what the Chinese counterpart
seeking from the partnership as well and be able to anticipate their needs and wants. This is necessary
because it is the very tactic that will be used by one s Chinese counterpart. China is a massive nation
that encompasses over 3000 miles from east to west and 2500 miles from north to south. It contains a

The Role and Function of the Fool in King Lear

of language. He allows us to see more than just words on the paper; we re given a multi dimensional
insight into a character. Usually his characters aren t as straight forward as black or white, they are
invariably more complex. Edmund for example, it s easy to present him as the villain but Shakespeare

Eventually the Fool gets a glimmer of hope back from Lear when he realises his mistakes. ‘I did her

stressing the point would only bring Lear down. Some critics say The Fool is responsible for pushing
Lear over the edge. I like to think it was necessary for Lear to go through madness so he can truly
appreciate the consequences of his actions. The Fool was helping Lear to ‘see better . Finally Lear s
conscience catches up with him at least to an extent when he says ‘poor fool and knave I have one

The Interest Rate And Interest Rates
Since people always prefer money right now to the present prospect of getting the same amount of
money some time in the future, the present good always commands a premium in the market over the
future. This premium is the interest rate, and its height will vary according to the degree to which
people prefer the present to the future, i.e., the degree of their time preferences. (Ebling, 1996, p.82)
In determining the originary interest rate, Mises thinks that the rate of originary interest directs the
investment activities of the entrepreneurs. It determines the length of waiting time and of the period of
production in every branch of industry. I do not completely agree in this view. Though it is true that
the interest rate plays an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is therefore impossible to formulate any praxeological theorem concerning the relation of the
amount of capital available in the whole nation or to individual people on the one hand and the
amount of saving or capital consumption and the height of the originary rate of interest on the other
hand. The allocation of scarce resources to want satisfaction in various periods of the future is
determined by value judgments and indirectly by all those factors which constitute the individuality of
the acting man. (Mises, 1949, p. 24)
The interest rate has three related jobs. First, the interest rate equalizes savings and borrowing.
Secondly, the interest rate equalizes net savings and investment. Thirdly, the interest rate allocates
spending for consumption relative to investment. (Foldvary, 2015, web.)
INTEREST, CREDIT EXPANSION, AND THE TRADE CYCLE
In standard economics, the rate of interest is determined by the market for loanable funds, funds
available for borrowing. The supply of loanable funds comes from savings and from money creation.
Savings is defined as income minus spending for consumption. Time preference is a general tendency
rather than a universal absolute; hence, some people with a strong concern for their future would save
funds even at an interest rate of zero. With a higher rate of interest, more people are willing to save
funds, so at some quantity of saved funds, the supply curve of savings rises with higher rates of real

Homelessness Is An Ever Growing Epidemic

March 17, 2016
Abstract
In the complex society of this day and age, homelessness is an ever growing epidemic; People can
become homeless for many reasons: losing a job, addiction to drugs and mental illness. People drive
or walk past a homeless person every day without thinking ever about the predicament of that
individual or they may even unintentionally turn their heads the other way in repulsion. Homelessness
can be defined as an individual or a family whose has a main nighttime dwelling that is a public or
private place not designed for or normally used as a regular sleeping accommodation for human
beings, including a car, park, abandoned building, bus or train station, airport, or camping ground,
doorway or alley sidewalk. Any given night in Portland there can be upwards of 4000 people sleeping
on the streets in homeless camps, shelters, or under the bridges, this report looks at the direct
correlation between homelessness, the disease of drug addiction, and mental illness, And will try to
address ways to help decrease and prevent it from increasing.

The Failure Of Vocation Ltd Essay
1. Identify the problem The scope of this essay is using the professional knowledge to critically
analyze the failure of Vocation Ltd in 2015. This essay will provide three of possible categories of
corporate failure that contributed to the failure of Vacation Ltd, and using suitable accounting theories
explain these. Further more this essay will choose suitable Corporate Governance Principles to try
preventing the failure of Vocation. This essay focuses on the problem of Vocation Ltd ignoring the
external pressure, such as: changing of policy. In Australia the corporate failures means the insolvency
that a company cease its business operation(Michaela 2012, 365 366). The categories of corporate
failures are six possible reasons that lead the failure of corporate(Mickelwaith 2006, 2 6). The
accounting theory is a way to explain the accounting practice or prescribe how accounting should be
done(Michaela 2012, 133 134). Additionally, the corporate governance was defined that the
framework of rules, relationships, systems and processes can be exercised and controlled by
corporate(Council 2014, 3). 2. Determine relevant information The Group of Vocation Ltd consisted

  • 2. Comparing Women In Athens And Sparta Women in Athens and Sparta were treated completely different. Women in Sparta were viewed more equally, while the women in Athens were treated like slaves. Women in a Greek city/state known as Athens, were not educated, and were treated the same if not worse than slaves (Athenian, 2005). In Athens, Women lived in a society completely dominated by men (O Pry, 2012). This all ended when the women of Sparta (a Greek city/state) were seen overcoming these issues. The life of a woman in Athens was completely different than a Spartan. Women were treated differently, in Sparta they could manage the land, have their own public opinion, and were treated equal as men, while women in Athens had no public or political rights. Not only was this a big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spartan women definitely over ruled the other Greek city/states. Both Athenian and Spartan women still had no political rights, but they could give their own political opinions to men (O Pry,2012). The women in Athens couldn t leave their homes, therefore they couldn t talk to men. In Sparta the women ran all estates and had all rights to go out in public (Fleck, 2007). In Athens, Greece No women, foreigners, or slaves were considered citizens (O Pry, 2012). This changed in Sparta when the women came out ruling their city/state. Spartans educated them much in the same way as the boys attending school (O Pry, 2012). While in Athens, had little to no education. In Athens no women had a choice of who they married. This was all decided by the father. The women in Athens did have the right to divorce, but had to get permission from her husband first, and had the chance of losing custody of her children. In Sparta women had the right to marry and divorce as needed. If a woman s husband was at war to long they had the right to remarry (Athenian, 2005). This was something researchers have never seen before causing them to become very confused on this situation. Even though Sparta came out looking strong they had their downfalls. When the population of children started to go down, because the expenses were going up, the helots came in to attack (Like they did every year). The helots defeated them due to the military downsize. This caused Spartans to believe women were the cause, Spartans lost all the land they conquered in Messenia, and were now just like all the regular Greek city/states. Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end (Robin Sharma). In the end it probably turned out not to be a bad idea ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Yeats’ Leda and the Swan and Van Duyn s Leda Essay Yeats Leda and the Swan and Van Duyn s Leda In Greek mythology, Leda, a Spartan queen, was so beautiful that Zeus, ruler of the gods, decided he must have her. Since immortals usually did not present themselves to humankind in their divine forms, Zeus changed himself into a great swan and in that shape ravished the helpless girl (Carey 58 59). Both William Butler Yeats and Mona Van Duyn base their poems Leda and the Swan and Leda, respectively, on this story of a mystic marriage. Yeats focus on the sexual act itself, along with his allusions to Leda s progeny, manifest a grave and terrifying tone. While he raises Leda to a status similar to that of Mary, mother of Jesus, Van Duyn portrays Leda as a universal mother. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yeats question concerning Leda s recognization of Zeus ( And how can body . . . but feel the strange heart beating where it lies? ), in a sense, queries how can man not recognize Lucifer by his deception and God by his virtue? Rather than recounting the rape itself, Van Duyn emphasizes the characterization of Leda, a representative of all women. The line her mind closed on a bird and went to sleep implies that Leda does not even imagine that the bird is anything more than just that, a bird. She lacks both intelligence and curiosity, and hence reverts to her purpose in life, the act of giving. Leda s openness in this line refers to her willingness to submit, To give: women and gods are alike in enjoying that ceremony, find[ing] its smoke filling and sweet. 1 (337) Unlike the resistance Leda attempts in Yeats poem, Van Duyn s Leda willingly provides her body for sexual pleasure, for she only wants to please the bird, symbolic of man. Van Duyn briefly mentions Zeus parasitic actions. She contends that Zeus enjoys his exploitation of Leda solely because of his narcissism2, for he seeks his own reflection in the eyes of the women he victimizes ( collecting these rare pictures of himself was his life ) (337). Reflecting her own feminist beliefs, Van Duyn implies that men are selfish, using women for sex simply to satisfy their own passions. On the other hand, Yeats converges solely on the sketch of Zeus, revealing both a playboy and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Speech On The Ozone Layer 1) The ozone layer is a layer of ozone high up in the Earth s atmosphere stratosphere. The word ozone means smelly in Greek because the gas has a strong odor. The ozone layer was discovered in 1913 by the French physicists Charles Fabry and Henri Buisson. Ozone is created in the stratosphere when high energy UV radiation causes on O2 molecule to split. The free oxygen atoms collide and react with other O2 molecules to form O3. The exact amount of ozone that can be found varies, the seasons influence it; it is also different in different places on the Earth. This layer can absorb between 93 and 99 per cent of the ultraviolet radiation from the sun. This radiation is dangerous to many living organisms on Earth. However, due to its high reactivity, ... CFCs were invented in the 1920s and were originally thought to be environmentally friendly, but time proved otherwise. CFCs are very stable and do not dissolve in rain. Thus, there are no natural processes that remove the CFCs from the lower atmosphere. Over time, winds drive the CFCs into the stratosphere. The CFCs are so stable that only exposure to strong UV radiation breaks them down. When that happens, the CFC molecule releases atomic chlorine. One chlorine atom can destroy over 100,000 ozone molecules. The net effect is to destroy ozone faster than it is naturally created. In 1974, two scientists named Sherwood Rowland and Mario Molina were able to demonstrate how CFCs were splitting ozone molecules into atmospheric oxygen and chlorine monoxide molecules, and this work earned them the 1995 Nobel Prize in chemistry. Their research helped put new policy into motion, and by 1979, the U.S. and other countries had banned CFCs in aerosol sprays, but not for other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What if instead of a dog, it was the family s pig? The majority of American people would believe it s more morally justified to eat the pig than the dog which reduces the pig to a mere piece of bacon. The United States is a profit driven country which is reflected by their mistreatment of farm animals and can be seen by its peoples anthropocentric and hypocritical views. This comes to show that the support for veganism and vegetarianism is an ecological, ethical, or health concern issue, Nearly all plant eaters have fermenting vats (enlarged chambers where foods sits and microbes attack it). Ruminants like cattle and deer have forward sacs derived from remodeled esophagus and stomach. Horses, rhinos, and colobine monkeys have posterior, hindgut sacs. Humans have no such specializations.. The short canines in humans are a functional consequence of the enlarged cranium and associated reduction of the size of the jaws. In archeological sites, broken human molars are most often confused with broken premolars and molars of pigs, a classic omnivore (VRG). Although there is evidence to back up humans being omnivores, is it morally justified for humans to eat meat when survival is not a threat? If one s morals say no, there s many diets that exist that don t include animals. A vegan diet consists of not consuming any animal products. Humans choose this diet for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is to cut down on animal cruelty. Jonathan Safran Foer talks about the morality of harming animals for food in his book Eating Animals, What our babysitter said made sense to me, not only because it seemed true, but because it was the extension to food of everything my parents had taught me. We don t hurt family members. We don t hurt friends or strangers. We don t even hurt upholstered furniture. My not having thought to include animals in that list didn t make them the exceptions to it. It just made me a child, ignorant of the world s workings (Foer). Hosea was the only writing prophet of Israel to Israel. The name Hosea (Heb., Hoshea) means salvation. It is interesting to observe that the names Joshua (Num 13:16) and Jesus (Matt 1:21) are derived from the same Hebrew root as Hosea. Hosea most likely did not attend a school of prophets, or have any formal training in a school of the prophets, but you could not tell that he did not go to the school of prophets. Hosea writing was abrupt, short, and sharp. His writings show him to be a very knowledgeable man. Scroggie says, His message is one of the most profound and spiritual in the Old Testament. He graciously took the time one afternoon to sit down and allow me to conduct an interview with him. First, I asked him to discuss his educational background and how he began to practice law. Mr. Dunlap, a native of the Dallas area, completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Kansas where he studied history. He said that while he thoroughly enjoyed his degree program s content, he did not see a future career for him with history and given that many of his older family members, including his mother, were practicing lawyers, law school seemed to him to be a natural next step for him. He returned to Dallas to get his law degree from Southern Methodist University (SMU). He said that, he felt extremely lucky that his parents were able to help finance his legal education, so finances were not a major factor in his law school decision. When I asked him how he came to choose SMU, he indicated that the two most prominent factors were the location in the state he wished to practice and the school s estimable reputation in Texas and the surrounding states. Both of them shocked me by their unique way of performances. From the very beginning, The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky strengthens in a volatile sense of harmonious movements. The Rite of Spring is quite different from classical ballets whose subtle interchange of the curvaceous, subjective lithesome in the flow of time that romanticism savored. In this particular dance which was carefully planned by Igor Stravinsky, Stravinsky s rhythms hit and batter; although highly asymmetric they are still pounded in such a new way that the score requires innovation in harmonious representation to make Stravinsky s invention workable. In this dance, there is no way are these rhythms presented subtly, in fact, they are habitually stricken out in harmony by the huge orchestra that the work uses. Less than a month after the horrific attack, the National Security Agency (NSA) started a special collection program with intentions to track communications among suspected terrorists and Al Qaeda leaders. Then on October 4, 2001, President George W. Bush authorized the NSA to monitor domestic communications in order to track down suspected terrorists. Two problems shortly arose from Bush s decision: the fact that his authorization to NSA was carried out in secret and also that monitoring the domestic communications was done without a warrant. This proved to be illegal since the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act states that the government is prohibited from eavesdropping inside the United States without first getting a warrant from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA court). In order to counteract the issues he had caused, on October 26, 2001 Bush signed the Patriot Act; a law that would expand the government s electronic surveillance powers. When Florence was five years old, her mother Fanny convinced her husband to move to Emely Park where the Nightingales would have more entertainment. Although this made Fanny happy, Florence was miserable with the consistent guests and chatter. She preferred to be alone with her thoughts. Growing up she was only taught the things a good wife and mother would need to know, including; music, dance, needlework and art lessons. In the 1800s women weren t expected to receive an education based on the core subjects, they learned things that would help them become the best care taker they could be. Since Florence was considered upper class, it was highly unlikely for her to ever have a job. But as Florence grew older she became very neat and organized. A predominant and consistent theme of honor and glory reside throughout the poem. The motivation for any Homeric Greek is glory, or Kleos , that is to be honored and respected among their people. Emphasis is put on living by the heroic code. Honor is essential to the Greeks and life would not be worth living without it. When a warrior or hero is advised to avoid risking their life in battle it almost drives them even further towards the deed. This became one of the centerpieces for the conflict between Achilleus and Agamemnon, when a quarrel arose and Achilleus was asked to allow Briseis, a prize that he won in battle, to go back to her land. It is common to keep your female prizes as your own; however, Achilleus felt that his ego was tested when he was asked to return her. To evoke a greater sense of importance in certain scenes, directional lighting is used. An important and foreshadowing scene in the film, the ferry from Pucallpa, Peru to the leper colony shows the division of wealth through soft natural lighting and the use of shadows. This particular scene uses an important element of mise en scene, lighting, to create a powerful, suggestive introduction to the culmination of their voyage. The Articles of Confederation left the national government without a judiciary and independent executive, leaving Congress with most of the power; but it was largely a creature of the states. This sparked conflicted amongst state which eventually lead to the government s debt. Once The Founding Fathers realized the poor ethics that the Articles of Confederation had, the first topic they felt the need to discuss had been federalism. As read in We the People textbook, federalism means the Constitution s division of governing authority between two levels, nation and states was the result of political bargaining. As I reflect back on previous lessons/discussions, I find it that Federalism is an ideology that s written in the constitution to divide power between federal and state government; even though the term is not bluntly stated. Honorably, the simulation mirrored what took place in 1787, by having four interest groups and Senators from eight delegations representing their states interest. The Interest Rate And Interest Rates Since people always prefer money right now to the present prospect of getting the same amount of money some time in the future, the present good always commands a premium in the market over the future. This premium is the interest rate, and its height will vary according to the degree to which people prefer the present to the future, i.e., the degree of their time preferences. (Ebling, 1996, p.82) In determining the originary interest rate, Mises thinks that the rate of originary interest directs the investment activities of the entrepreneurs. It determines the length of waiting time and of the period of production in every branch of industry. I do not completely agree in this view. Though it is true that the interest rate plays an ... It is therefore impossible to formulate any praxeological theorem concerning the relation of the amount of capital available in the whole nation or to individual people on the one hand and the amount of saving or capital consumption and the height of the originary rate of interest on the other hand. The allocation of scarce resources to want satisfaction in various periods of the future is determined by value judgments and indirectly by all those factors which constitute the individuality of the acting man. (Mises, 1949, p. 24) The interest rate has three related jobs. First, the interest rate equalizes savings and borrowing. Secondly, the interest rate equalizes net savings and investment. Thirdly, the interest rate allocates spending for consumption relative to investment. (Foldvary, 2015, web.) INTEREST, CREDIT EXPANSION, AND THE TRADE CYCLE In standard economics, the rate of interest is determined by the market for loanable funds, funds available for borrowing. The supply of loanable funds comes from savings and from money creation. Savings is defined as income minus spending for consumption. Time preference is a general tendency rather than a universal absolute; hence, some people with a strong concern for their future would save funds even at an interest rate of zero. With a higher rate of interest, more people are willing to save funds, so at some quantity of saved funds, the supply curve of savings rises with higher rates of real ...
