1. Information Technology Essay
Crafting an essay on the broad and intricate subject of Information Technology can be a
challenging endeavor. The difficulty lies in the vastness and rapid evolution of the field,
encompassing various sub-disciplines such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science,
and more. The dynamism of technology poses a constant challenge to keep the information
current and relevant.
Researching for such an essay requires delving into complex technological concepts, staying
updated with the latest advancements, and understanding the historical context of IT.
Furthermore, conveying this information in a coherent and accessible manner to the audience
adds an additional layer of complexity. Striking a balance between technical details and
layman's understanding becomes crucial to make the content informative yet engaging.
The challenge intensifies when one considers the need for critical analysis and the exploration of
ethical implications. Addressing the multifaceted aspects of Information Technology involves not
only describing its achievements but also examining the potential risks and societal impacts. It
requires the ability to think critically, evaluate sources, and present a well-rounded perspective.
Moreover, the fast-paced nature of technological advancements means that information becomes
obsolete quickly. This necessitates constant updates to ensure the essay remains relevant.
Adaptability and a keen awareness of emerging trends are essential to provide a comprehensive
and up-to-date overview.
In conclusion, composing an essay on Information Technology demands a combination of in-
depth research, critical thinking, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly. It is a
task that requires dedication, ongoing learning, and a commitment to staying abreast of the ever-
evolving landscape of technology.

2. Solar Power And Solar Energy
Solar Power Author Ming Zhang Abstract: this paper introduce solar power from
several aspect. The situation of solar energy, the application we find in modern
life. Let us to know the solar panel and two basic kind of solar farm. Finally, it
illustrate the structure of PV cell, calculate the efficiency and introduce us one
new kind of solar converters. Index terms: Solar Power, application Solar farm,
Photovoltaic, converter Introduction As solar power take an more and more
important roll in today s world, we need to know this clear resource and
understand how to use it. In this paper, we will discuss about solar energy, it s
application in real life, solar panel, two kinds of solar farm, PV cell and converter.
I. Solar Energy and Application Solar energy is energy that we can get from the
sun.[1] In electrical filed, we use solar panel to get power to create electricity, the
power we get is solar power. Fig. 1. solar panel under the sun(image from[1]) The
average solar power incident on the Earth is ~1000Wm 2(~100mWcm 2) or about
150 000TW. This power is far larger than the world power consumption in 2010 of
~18 TWth [2]. From above we can easily find that the energy of solar power has
great potential storage. It is about 10000 times of total world s power consumption.
With so Great development prospect, companies try to find whether it can be

3. Jazz And The Past, Present, And Future
Jazz and the Past, Present, and Future
One of the most profound paradoxes that Jazz as a musical genre has spurred by
way of its mere existence is contained within the connotation of the word Jazz itself.
Attempting to unravel the mysterious history of this familiar word is a sisyphusian
task due in part to the contested nature of the word, yet as Alan P. Merriam and
Fradley H. Garner postulate in their article Jazz The Word from the journal
Ethnomusicology: studying the problems associated with the contested nature of the
term reveal critical information on the history of Jazz, the music and the stories of
the disenfranchised people who forged Jazz (Merriam, 373). Merriam and Garner
establish in Jazz The Word that Jazz has a foot firmly rooted in the past and owes
itself considerably to the experiences of Africans brought to the New World by
Europeans under the brutal imposition of slavery, among many other injustices in the
annals of history; However, the volatility of Jazz means that the contributions of the
past are tightly intertwined with the events of the present, and predictions in the
future. In this paper I will be using the model of past, present, and future to compare
and contrast what Jazz means to different people at different times, and argue that the
past, present, and future are tightly intertwined and the relationships between these
events make up what Jazz is. In order to make this comparison, I will use several
interviews with musicians and
4. Susan Orwell s Chinese Cinderella
In this essay, I will explore how the readings of his module s creative non fiction text
influenced the writing of my assessed creative piece: Chinese Cinderella. I will
examine how Zadie Smith, Charles Simic, Geroge Orwell and Susan Orlean
contributed to Chinese Cinderella in terms of authority, character, story and thesis.
To have authority signifies whether you believe the story and are able to immerse
yourself into the world the writer s created for you and simply have faith that the
words are true. The Orchid Thief was originally supposed to be an article for the
newspaper, but Orleans saw the potential it had and, therefore, created a creative non
fiction text. As someone with a journalistic background, the readers would trust ...

Relying on a familial understanding of animals, by describing her eyes as doe like

have picked up on this, but those with a classical background would have
remembered that Homer used the epithet bright eyed for Athene, a representation of
her wisdom. Therefore, although I have stated that it meant clear sightedness there
is the underlying meaning of someone who is wise. This could be said for Orwell
in Shooting an Elephant where the elephant is a representation of the Burmese
people. In addition, the elephant could be a representation of the British Empire,
powerful and mighty, but when it was ravaging the bazaar it is a unique metaphor
for the British Empire raiding and colonizing Burma. The death of a black
Dravidian coolie by the stampeding elephant could be Orwell showing us the Britsh
oppressing the native, which he disapprove off but found it hard to do so as he
resented the natives for the ridicule he
5. Joffrey Ballet School Research Paper
Summer is a time in which children are able to forget the demands of school and do
as they please. Students do a variety of things over the summer, whether they spend
it at the pool, get a summer job, or simply enjoy time at home. I plan to do none of
those things, though. When was little I dreamed of attending the Joffrey Ballet School
in New York to study dance. In January, I auditioned for the program and was
accepted. So, though I am from Georgia, I will be spending the summerin New York
City to study dance with the Joffrey Ballet School and could not be more excited to
fulfil a childhood dream. I will not only dance from nine to five, but also see
Broadway shows, such as Mean Girls and Anastasia as well as ballets from American

7. The Tuskegee Experiments
The only thing the Tuskegee Experiments were successful in was creating a living
hell for all participants. The United States government conducted a study spanning
from 1932 to 1972, testing the long term effects of untreated Syphilis in African
American males in Tuskegee, Alabama. By 1997, American citizens, after being
repeatedly lied to, learned the extent of these experiments and their treatment of
African Americans: Failure to disclose the possession of syphilis, false treatment,
lack of consent, and the avoidable harm and deaths of participants. The Tuskegee
Syphilis Experiments were detrimental because they perpetuated institutionalized
racism. These government run tests targeted African Americans in impoverished
communities, dehumanizing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alankaar describes this process as a castration , literally dehumanizing the participants
through terminology associated with cattle, sheep, and swine. By separating of
animal versus man, the Tuskegee experiments were able to be conducted, as they
were feeding off stereotypes engraved on the minds of the conductors. The
dehumanization of participants allowed doctors to distance themselves from the
subjects and ensured their superior status. In a primary recollection from Herman
Shaw, one of the five survivors of the study, the extent of dehumanization was
outlined. Shaw states, Marable (1994:70 71) has discussed that historically black
men were considered in an institutionally racist society as only a step above the
animals possessing awesome physical power but lacking in intellectual ability. The
referral to pigs , again possess dehumanizing traits which allowed doctors to justify
their experiments. Stereotypes of wildness and savagery compounded with previous
perceptions of minorities in, in Shaw s words, an institutionally racist society,

8. Characteristics Of Japanese Maple Trees
Japanese Maple trees are a great edition to any yard. They are an elegant looking
tree, with soft, delicate looking leaves that can add dimensionality to your yard. To
keep your Japanese Maples in good health, you need to be aware of the three most
common tree disease that infected Japanese Maple trees as well as what to do about
these diseases.
Anthracnose Disease
Anthracnose disease is caused by fungus and generally affected Japanese Maple Trees
that are planted in areas that are warm and experience frequent humidity.
Disease Characteristics
On your Japanese maple, the most common visual sign of Anthracnose are small
spots on the leaves. These spots are usually either yellow or brown in color. The
spots start out dotting your leaves. Over time, the spots expand until they cover up
almost the entire leaf.
Yellow or brown spots can also appear on the twigs on your trees. They generally
appear on new growth.
Treatment
Prevention is the key with anthracnose. Make sure to not overwater plants. Do not
get the leaves wet when watering; use a drip sprinkler instead to water your trees.
Put compost around the base of your Japanese Maples to keep the soil healthy.
To get rid of anthracnose once it is present, usually copper based fungicides are
used to kill off the fungus. Infected branches can also be pruned off your trees. All
clippings from your Japanese Maple should be disposed of in the trash, and not left
to compost in your yard to prevent the spread of
9. Evaluation of the Movie 42
Evaluation of the Movie 42 When I first viewed this movie, I already knew some
of Jackie Robinson s history, but I was still moved by this revealing depiction of
his life during the years 1945 1947. This true story, which was released April 12,
2013, followed what I had learned about Jackie and stayed accurate while still being
extremely entertaining. Jackie Robinsons number on his jersey was 42, he wore that
number his entire Major League career with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The movie 42 is
a biopic of the legendary baseball player Jackie Robinson, when in 1947 Jackie
became the first African American player to break Major League Baseballs color
barrier. The great directing, acting, and writing made this film enjoyable to watch.

Jackie immediately tells the attendant to stop pumping gas into the team s bus. At
which point, the attendant backs down and lets Jackie use the restroom. That
scene helped me to understand Jackie s distain for discrimination. The next
incident of segregation we witness involves Rachel, when she is surprised to see a
whites only sign on a women s restroom door at an airport in Florida. The actress
did a fantastic job of showing the shock and disbelief that Rachel expressed since
she was from Pasadena, California and had never been exposed to this type of racial
discrimination.
When I first saw the cast, I was not quite sure what to expect. Two of the three
leading roles, were not household names. I had not seen or heard of the actor
playing Jackie Robinson, nor had I heard of the actress playing his wife Rachel
Robinson. Chadwick Boseman did great in his portrayal of Jackie as was Nicole
Beharie playing the role of Rachel. The two of them on screen together made for a
great team. Chadwick was especially talented in his ability to show the anguish in
his facial expressions when he faced insults and injuries. Boseman s performance
as a professional ballplayer, loving husband, and father as well as a man that
knows how to restrain himself when dealing with racism on and off the field
reflects his skill as an actor. Nicole Beharie plays a wife with the it s us against the
world mentality, flawlessly. She seems perfect for the role of Rachel who is not
10. Great Chicago Fire Of 1910
Great Chicago Fire in 1871; Big Burn the Great Fire of 1910; Miramichi Fire;
Oakland Firestorm of 1991; Cloquet Fire; Yellowstone s Summer of Fire ; California
s Cedar Fire of 2003; 2004 Taylor Complex Fire; Great Hinckley Fire of 1894; and
the 2007 California wildfires (Nelson, 2013).
In October 2003, San Diego experienced the Cedar Fire that claimed 273,246 acres,
2,820 structures, and 15 lives (CAL FIRE, 2015). It gained the moniker, The
Hundred Year Fire because another fire of its magnitude was not expected for
another 100 years (San Diego Fire Facts, 2016). This expectation was short lived
because four years after this fire in October 2007, San Diego experienced the
largest wildfire in history (San Diego Fire Facts, 2016). This fire gained the name,
Witch Fire (CAL FIRE, 2015). These fires highlighted that there were not enough fire
fighters and resources to combat such fires. They highlighted areas that lacked
emergency service protection and showed a lack of preparedness (San Diego Fire
Facts, 2016). Years after the fires, some changes that came about include: wood
shake shingles being banned on new construction and could not be used as roof
replacements (Mainar, 2013) and 100 feet became the new defensible space, an
increase from 65, between the fuel, for example vegetation, of the fire and the
structure (Mainar, 2013). There s an increase in code compliance officers in the field
from two to seven (Mainar, 2013). Evacuation procedures and notices were
11. A Comparison Of Saving Private Ryan And Patton
The movies Saving Private Ryan and Patton both tell the stories of heroes during
World War II, but in very different ways. Saving Private Ryan focuses on Capitan
John H. Miller, a fictional soldier who is given the task of bringing a Private Ryan
home since his three brothers had died. He and most of his men end up dying in
the search to find Ryan and then in defense of a critical bridge Ryan refuses to
leave. Patton is the true story of General Patton, a brilliant strategist who, while he
often disrespected his men, was able to use them to accomplish incredible feats of
war. Patton was very self focused and enjoyed war and the glory brought along with
it. The first movie is focused on the struggles and heroics of the common soldier
while the second follows the leaders who won the war. John Miller and George
Patton can both be considered heroes, but which can be considered the greater man?
Saving Private Ryan, while mostly fictional and only loosely based on the story of
the Niland Brothers ( The Nihland Boys ), it tells a story of a few heroic soldiers
who go into save one man. Risking the lives of 8 men to save one seems counter
intuitive, but Capitan Miller was dedicated to following orders. The movie shows
how Miller does not think Private Ryan is worth risking the lives of his men, yet he
presses on through many challenges. When he finally finds Ryan, the Private refuses
to leave his post because he has a duty to serve with the men he considers the only
brothers (he)
12. Why Was Humanism Important In The Renaissance
Why is humanism such a big factor in past and present society? Humanism is an
outlook of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or
supernatural matters. For the Renaissance, humanism was a big cultural movement
that brought thought of Greek and Roman thoughts. Humanism was expressed in the
Renaissancethrough the works of art, music, and literature. During the Renaissance,
church music had an a big impact because a lot of people were hardcore religious
figures. A lot of these tunes were based on a cappella which is singing with no beat
or music, and some of the music did have instruments playing in the background.
Music embodied humanism because religion was huge to people back then and that is
how people used to live during this time. Also during this time, composers, seeing
how many instruments have come about, started writing music to match up with an
instrumental sound. Which was new to a lot of people considering they hadn t heard

Before the renaissance, art wasn t a big deal, people painted and that was that.
Since famous artists had come out with paintings that no one has seen anything
like it before, many were surprised by the way art was making a change. Artists
would go into churches and paint what ever knew design they had in mind and
people would go and admire the astonishing art work of for example, Michelangelo
who painted the sistine chapel. Humanism was connected through art by getting
people to start the drawings and paintings like they have today, as well as money to
come in with all the famous paintings. Before the Renaissance, no one knew what a
2 point perspective drawing was, until artist Paolo Veronese painted, The Marriage
at Cana which was a 2 point perspective drawing. A lot of painters connected with
people on a spiritual way by painting religious figures, like Jesus
13. Martin Luther s Ninety-Five Theses On The Church
Martin Luther was the son of a coal miner and left his studies to become an
Augustinian monk. He spoke out against the church in Wittenberg. Luther was
convinced that salvation was earned by the performance of good deeds and grace
through the church. He disagreed and argued that salvation could only be obtained
by faith in knowing Christ s sacrifice. If one were to purchase indulgences, Luther
thought that they were useless because one can only be saved by the grace of God.
He also believed that Christian s should assume full responsibility for their actions on
earth. In 1517, Luther posted the Ninety Five Theseson the church door in
Wittenberg. This post was ninety five issues he sought to bring up and dispute with
the leaders of the Church
14. Mythic Frontiersman In Owen Winter s The Virginian
[Intro]
In the later half of the nineteenth century, the mythic frontiersman was commonly
described as full of hope, righteous, and uncorrupt by tainted social order. This kind of
frontiersman is referred to as the American Adam. The American Adam frontiersman
can be found in [insert]
However in the 1860s and 1870s a new concept of frontiersman arose. Dime novel
authors presented these western men as strong, self reliant, and upholders of the law.
This idea of the frontiersman is presented in Owen Winter s novel, The Virginian.
The Virginian is an American hero who is masculine and always ends up saving the
day. This man is portrayed similar to a knight in shinning armor. He didn t care about
material rewards as he fought for truth and justice. [not sure what to add here...] ...

Instead, the myths idealized life on the frontier. Authors used descriptive details in
their stories to make the west seem appealing to the American Dream. The myths of
the frontier made the Great Plains look like a land that was full of opportunity. An
illustration of this idea is the dime novel, Young Wild West written by An Old Scout.
This novel was about an eighteen year old boy who traveled all over the western
frontier looking for adventures. Young Wild West, no matter the issue, always saved
the day. Americans have a fondness for the frontier myth because of the belief in
economic opportunity. There was also something about the image of a man plunging
into the wilderness on his own and defending himself against the unknown dangers in
the new world that many Americans found fascinating and mysterious. Additionally,
the Plains offered all peoples a fresh start in
15. Why We Should Be Heading Towards Space Exploration
Why We Should Be Heading Towards Space
Space exploration is something that has intrigued mankind ever since science fiction
writers of old sparked the imagination of the people. Since then, we have made leaps
and bounds towards space travel with landing people on the moon, sending satellites
to Saturn, the photos from the Hubble Telescope and the rover, Curiosity, on Mars.
These advances have provided information that will prove to be beyond measure.
While the cost of such information has been high, the benefits of the information has
been irrefutable. Ultimately, this information goes to support not only further
exploration of space, but also towards technologies that will benefit Earth directly.
Two such projects deal primarily with solar power and nuclear waste disposal. Both
of these industries would benefit immensely from such a service and would also
generate the need for many space flights (Coopersmith, 2012). According to
Coopersmith (2012), Space based solar power (SBSP) promises gigawatts of electric
power with minimum environmental damage. Example like this go to show that the
inventions and benefits realized through space exploration reach far beyond the
cosmos and into the everyday lives of people.
Right off the bat, the question for most is, with all the benefits realized through space
exploration aside, what is the actual cost of these endeavors. The space shuttle
program (now retired) was the primary consumer when it came to taxpayer funds.

What happens to bread as it is being toasted? and is there any change in results when

What are the chemical changes that take place when a piece of bread is toasted using a
heating supply. Bread can be heated using many different appliances, In this

low molecular weight carbohydrates produced by the hydrolysis of starch or

there is no starch present, there will be no colour change. If your test has enough
dextrin present, it might turn a darker reddish
18. The Effects Of Pornography On Men And Women
The following speech focuses on how prolonged exposure to porn affects men and
women, more specifically how it affects the hypothalamus in the male brain. Men
watch more porn than woman so I first hypothesized that this difference in viewing
weakens the hypothalamus and in turn leads to desensitization with the act of natural
sex. I then found scholarly sources to support my overall claims. This speech will
cover the following points: 1.) How Pornographydesensitizes the malebrain. 2.) How
pornography causes its viewers to replicate porn style relationships in own life,
leading to lack of intimacy. (Detachment from reality) 3.) The effects of
pornography have on women 4.) How pornography promotes the objectification of
women. These very small variables play a huge role in weakening the male brain. In
addition, I will briefly touch on why woman aren t effected from an over exposure in
the same manner as their male counter parts. The overall aim of this paper is to reveal
how this phenomenon effects males and why they should take immediate action to
not become a statistic.
Why men shouldn t watch too much porn.
A.One can infer that most men view or have viewed pornography at some point in
their life. According to Dr. Patrick F. Fagan, men are more than six times as likely to
view pornography and spend more time viewing it when compared to females. Most
males first view pornography during adolescence at age 13 and continue watching
through adulthood.

20. Characteristics Of The Film Moan The Epic Princess
Moana: The Epic Princess
Odysseus, Beowulf, Achilles, or maybe Gilgamesh all come to mind as archaic
examples, but they are not the only works fit the criteria of an epic. Many modern
day storylines such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or Moana are
based on the ideas of an epic legend. The phrase epic denotes a type of long,
narrative poem, one that celebrates a heroic achievement and/or holds themes of
cultural significance. There are six defining characteristics of an epic: an outstanding
hero, a large or vast setting, an action requiring superhuman courage, supernatural
forces, a versed writing style, and an omniscient and objective author. These
legends are generally mythologized histories often of oral origin that are loosely
based on the region s history. In the case of Moana, the story takes place in Ancient
Polynesia where a terrible curse of the Demigod, Maui, reaches Moana s island,
Motunui; she goes on a quest to answer the ocean s call to seek out Maui and make
things right. Moana s journey, in the form of an epic, involves her taking on a
daring mission to save her people, and though she faces many tests along the way,
with supernatural aid and other assists she successfully conquers this task. The film
Moana, released in 2016, outlines all of the characteristics to qualify as an epic
feature. As with all works of this style, Moana, the seemingly ordinary girl, is called
from a normal life to head out on a daunting quest with many trials,

22. Science Fair Project Report
This year, for my Science Fair Project I plan to do a study on how varying system
parameters affect the dynamics of a multi tank liquid level hydraulic system. The
purpose of this type of system is to maintain a constant fluid flow. In order to
maintain this fluid flow the tanks have to preserve a certain liquid level, this
necessary level depends on the other variables. My system will consist of: an
inflow valve, the tanks, valves to go between the tanks, and an outflow valve. I want
to do this experiment because about two years ago, when I was in the seventh grade,
I did a science fair experiment where I tested how changing the variables in a mass
spring damper system affected system response. In that experiment, I changed the
amount of mass,
23. Comparing Plato s Republic and Gulliver s Travels Essay
Plato s Republic and Gulliver s Travels
In The Republic, Plato attempts to define the ideal state as it relates to the tripartite
division of the soul. In this division, wisdom, the rational characteristic of the soul, is
the most valuable and important. In the ideal state the ruling class would be the
guardians, those who maintain rationality and will operate according to wisdom.
Each individual should be put to use for which nature intended them, one to one
work, and then every man would do his business (276d). This conception of the ideal
state is exemplified in Jonathon Swift s Gulliver s Travels, within the society of the
Houyhnhnms. Each member of the society maintains a role which he or she was born
into, and according ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The oppression of the Yahoos does not seem fair or just, but under a well run ideal
state where all people understand their place, it helps the society to function better.
The Houyhnhnms and Yahoos are of different species, and people of current North
American society think nothing of oppressing animals and calling it food or clothing.
Again, whether this is just or not does not bear relevance in this argument. The ideal
state as demonstrated in Houyhnhnm land is possible and can have beneficial results,
if the rules of reason and rationality are observed.
Plato appeals to a natural division of labour according to which each individual excels
at performing a certain function in society. According to this theory, if each
individual is encouraged by the state to perform the function at which he excels, the
entire community will function in a virtuous manner. This idea is present in the
Houyhnhnms, in that:
the White, the Sorrel, and the Iron grey, were not so exactly shaped as the Bay, the
Dapple grey, and the Black, nor born with equal Talents of Mind, or Capacity to
improve them, and therefore continued always in the Condition of Servants without
ever aspiring to match out of their own Race, which in that Country would be
regarded as monstrous and unnatural (Swift, 223).
This division of labour is considered a natural separation as defined by the laws of
nature.
24. Essay about Garvey, Dubois and Pan Africanism
Pan Africanism, in its fundamental definition, implores the black population to
pursue self dignity and self determination in bettering their situation and becoming
equal to the majority population; W.E.B. Dubois and Marcus Garvey, while both
active Pan Africanists in theory, have different goals and perspectives on the ways
in which the racial problems should be approached. The central differences between
Dubois and Garvey lie in their adolescent upbringings, and permeate through
adulthood to form opinions about the history of colonialism and imperialism that
separated society as a whole. In many ways, class structure ultimately shapes the
views of a person towards themselves as well as society in general as we compare and

Garvey was born in Jamaica, poor and convinced that the country could do nothing
for him academically or socially this is when he decided to travel to the United
states to seek newer opportunities. Dubois, however, was raised by middle class
parents in Massachusetts, where he formed the belief that only hard work will
cause success in ones life. He attended Fisk University and eventually Harvard,
further reinforcing his beliefs that integration and hard work would be the only
way to make it in that society. Garvey appealed to the masses, with his message of
self determination, despite socio economic background. He stated himself, ... I
appeal for four hundred million Negroes of the world, and fifteen millions in
America in particular, and thus, he did attract a very large audience. Dubois, on
the other hand, saw the wealthy and well educated as the epicenter of black
prosperity and growth, and thus proclaimed that from [educated blacks ]
knowledge and experience, [they] would lead the mass. Because of this overt
separation in viewpoints of the lower class blacks, many are lead to believe that
only Dubois exuded scrutiny of blacks in America. Dubois frequently declared that
poor blacks were in their situations by their own accord, and made statements such as
wealth is the result of work and saving and the rich rightly inherited the earth. The

Abstract
This paper will talk about the ethical dilemma that has been a controversial issue in
Hawaii regarding the construction of the thirty meter telescope being built on Mauna
Kea, the most sacred land in the entire pacific. This issue has risen concerns
regarding the local community, the Native Hawaiians and the TMT organization. The
ethical dilemma here is to build or not to build? Yes, Hawaiiwants to preserve the
host culture, but should Native Hawaiians prevent the development of new
technology? With this telescope, according to the TMT website, it will be able to see
the formation of galaxies, thirteen billion light years away. This can answer
humankinds most compelling question...Where did life begin?
Mauna Kea is currently the tallest mountain in the Hawaiian Chain. 4,205 meters
above sea level, Mauna Kea is located on the island of Hawaii. It is the second largest
surface that comprises of the five volcanoes on Mauna Kea. With Mauna Kea being
the largest Mountain in the Hawaiian chain, it is a popular location to look into the
galaxies, to find the origin of life.
Humans have looked to the skies for answers, the Polynesians sailed the Pacific using
celestial navigation. Astronomy continues to revolutionize our thinking. Today, with
the construction of the most powerful telescope, humankind may have the answers
to the origin of life. However, this telescope is being built atop Mauna Kea, one of

Unfortunately, it has proven to be deadly for humans, especially for children. Lead
production shifted into high gear in the 1920 s. Chemists figured out lead could
be marketed in gasoline which is called tetraethyl lead (TEL). The creation of this
product led to the birth of the Ethyl Lead Corporation (ELC). ELC formed in 1923
by General Motors and Standard Oil Company of New Jersey. It was purchased by
Albermarle Paper Manufacturing Company in Richmond, Virginia in 1962.
General Motors sold the company due to the growing concerns of the product.
Researchers discovered that TEL contributed to the soil, air, and water lead

lead pollution levels increased over 625 times over the previous levels. The Lead

anything. During the 70 s and 80 s, car manufacturers moved towards unleaded
gasoline, but the damage was
28. Gender Bias On The Classroom
Gender Bias In The Classroom Gender roles are widely accepted societal
expectations about how males and females should behave (Rathus, 2010, pg. 447).
Gender roles create a difference in the way that masculine and feminine behaviors
are accepted among society. Gender roles are often depicted as just a part of who a
person is and help better define the difference between male and female. When
society begins to use these genderroles as norms we often see those who don t fit
into the correct role become ostracized by society. When these gender roles
become rigid they can become gender stereotypes. These stereotypes are fixed and
oversimplified beliefs about the way in which men and women ought to behave
(Rathus, 2010, pg. 447). One of the most common gender stereotypes is that men
are the breadwinners and women are the homemakers. These stereotypes also carry
into emotions as well, women being more likely to feel sadness, fear and
sympathy, while men are more likely to feel anger and pride. Another area where
gender stereotypes can be observed is in the work place with women taking jobs
such as nursing and teaching, and men holding jobs in fields like medicine and law.
(Rathus, 2010, pg. 447). There are many physical, cognitive, personality, and
behavioral differences between genders. Physically men and women have different
primary and secondary sex characteristics. The primary sex characteristics are the
organs of the reproductive system where women have ovaries and men
29. Causes Of Trucking Accidents
There are trucks of all sizes on the roads in Montgomery, AL. While truckers play a
vital role in the economy, they are also responsible for an increasing number of
accidents on the roads. Hardly a day goes by when an 18 wheeler is not involved in a
traffic accident.
The biggest problem is that trucking accidents tend to result in significant damage.
Whenever a truck is involved in an accident, other cars, passengers and pedestrians
also often get severely injured or killed. Compared to car accidents, trucking accidents
are associated with more severe injuries, including permanent injuries and disability.
There are many causes of trucking accidents including:
Truck Driver Fatigue: Most truckers drive for a living and often work long hours,
including night shifts. This often results in sleep deprivation and driver fatigue.
This can be a real hazard for the driver as well as those on the road, especially when
the vehicle in question is a truck. A significant number of trucking accidents are
because of exhausted and tired truck drivers.
Speeding: Speeding is a major problem with truck drivers. There is a general
perception that truck drivers tend to speed and drive recklessly because they feel
that they own the road. They are also quite confident that because of the large size
of their vehicle, they are least likely to be injured if an accident occurs. In addition,
truckers also tend to be impatient and have a tendency to overtake as well as drive
fast.

30. William Wordsworth Essay
William Wordsworth s The World is Too Much With Us is a Romantic Sonnet that
can be broken into two parts. The speaker tells us in the first part that we have lost
our connection with nature, and that that connection was one of our most important
relationships. The speaker the goes on to tell us that that he is willing to sacrifice
everything to recover this relationship, and begins on line 9. In romantic poems, the
speaker tries to convince us of our flaws, in this case our skewed relationship with
nature, and convince us to change our ways. The speaker in Wordsworth s poem is
no different in this respect, and utilizes shock to grab our attention and really get us
to notice just how serious he believes this problem is. Although he uses... Show more

Wordsworth, however, shows both sides of nature. He does show nature as gentle
when he talks about sleeping flowers (7) and when he talks about the Sea that
bares her bosom to the moon (5). He talks about nature as frightening and
dangerous when he says that The winds that will be howling at all hours (6). This
shows not only the fury of nature, but when contrasted with more gentle images,
the speaker shows the versatility and inclemency that comes with nature. This helps
the audience to trust the speaker more, because he is being honest about nature,
and adds to the future shock of his embracing it. Another way involves the
structure of the poem. Being an Italian sonnet, the poem is supposed to break into
two different sections, the first being eight lines and the second being six. While
Wordsworth does break his poem into two parts, he does it midway through the
ninth line. Although this may not mean much too us, but scholars and other well
read people of his day would notice this immediately. He does this because a main
theme of this poem is to break away from the rules governing society, and he is
clearly doing that with the structure of the poem. The other two uses deal with the
language and content of the poem. The other also occurs on line 9 where the
speaker curses in the middle of the line proclaiming Great God! Cursing like this was
seldom heard in public back then, and was certainly not common in poetry. This is
done again to try to get the
31. Psychology And Cognitive Science, Confirmation Bias ( Or...
In psychology and cognitive science, confirmation bias (or confirmatory bias) is a
tendency to search for or interpret information in a way that confirms one s
preconceptions, leading to statistical errors. It is a type of cognitive bias and
represents an error of inductive inference toward confirmation of the hypothesis under
study.
Confirmation bias is a phenomenon wherein decision makers have been shown to
actively seek out and assign more weight to evidence that confirms their hypothesis,
and ignore or underweigh evidence that could disconfirm their hypothesis.
As such, it can be thought of as a form of selection bias in collecting evidence.
An individual might even seek out proof that further backs up this belief, while
discounting examples that do not support this idea.
Unlike other similar concepts such overconfidence bias or anchoring, confirmation
biases impact how people gather information, but they also influence how people
interpret and recall information. For example, people who support or oppose a
particular issue will not only seek information that supports their beliefs, they will
also interpret news stories in a way that upholds their existing ideas and remember
things in a way that also reinforces these attitudes.
Therefore, this concept is important because without seeking for objective facts,
interpreting information in a way that only supports one s existing beliefs, and only
remembering details that uphold these beliefs, people often miss important
32. Review Of The Ministry Of Music On The Black Church
Introduction and Thesis
Music is an inseparable element of Black life and therefore Black worship. The
Black Church understands worship to be a communal act of adoration towards God
that may involve praise or petition via song, dance, music (use of instruments),
recitation, meditation, chanting, and or prayer (Mason, 2016). According to James
Cone, Black music is unity music because it unites...the hope and despair;...and it
moves the people towards the direction of total liberation; and confronts the
individual with the truth of black existence and affirms that black being is possible
only in the communal context (p. 5). It is with this understanding that black people
worship through music and without this understanding worship and music are
diluted. J. Wendell Mapson articulated this idea in his book, The Ministry of Music
in the Black Church, when he noted that purpose of worship is forfeited when
singing music that has no relationship to everyday life, and the worshipper becomes
disconnected from the way music and worship have historically served blacks (41).
In this same vain, James Cone asserted that Black music is theological because it
reveals how God moves people towards unity and self determination.
Such unity and self determination was evidenced in 1801, when Richard Allen,
founder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church published a hymnal by and for
African Americans (Costen, 81). Hymns have served black people in their everyday
lives and had and have

Humans have come to accept that History by mere definition is the exploration and
study of history whereas the Human Sciences are defined as the in depth study of
social, biological and cultural aspects of human beings. History and Human Sciences
seek to influence humans through language, reason, and emotion. By looking at the
title, I am coming to the conclusion that historians only focus on understanding the
past and the human scientist is only looking to change the future. That conclusion is
reasonable due to reasoning of the historian or the scientist. They use reasoning to do
their job. In order to answer this question I am making the assumption that it states
that history solely concentrates on unraveling the past, while Human... Show more

For example, how someone is raised or their surroundings can affect their perception
of the world. If a historian wanted to state that the holocaust never happened because
their background sympathizes with the Germans, It can not be considered history
unless a historian goes and research and analyze their findings and more than one
historian agrees with it. The information that we have today as history would not be
considered history, unless an historian took the time and researched it. So the claim
that the historian s task is to understand the past is accurate.
The title states by contrast that the human scientists are trying to change the future,
when in reality they are also trying to understand the past also. Historians know what
they know, but can scientists really rely on what historians state as history. They use
their knowledge and the knowledge of historians to try to change the future. Scientists
have to understand the past because you can not just rely on what someone says.
Everything in the Natural Science has to be researched and tested in order to be
accepted as science. No one is going to just follow what another says because
perception and emotion can make history or science as bias due to someone s feelings.
Scientist has to go in the past and understand it and improve the future. However even
though scientists need to research the past in order to change the future, it is not
34. Fearless With Jet Lee
Fearless Movement Movement plays a major role in the art of film making.
Movement is the reason a film is, in my opinion, the best art form or way to
express one s ideas if you will. The concept of moving people, props, and even the
camera which captures the whole production, is what makes movies so easy to
follow and understand, as opposed to a book or writing. Books and writing can leave
so much to interpretation, and also to the imagination, which can result in miss
representation of a writer s true ideas. The filmFearless with Jet Lee is no different.
This film, being action packed, utilizes a lot of fast paced and even fast forwarded
movements to emphasize the intensity of the situations. An example of this is the
scene when Huo Yuanjia

Rebellion in Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale
Rebels defy the rules of society, risking everything to retain their humanity. If the
world Atwood depicts is chilling, if God is losing, the only hope for optimism is a
vision that includes the inevitability of human struggle against the prevailing order.
Joyce Johnson
Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale analyzes human nature by presenting an
internal conflict in Offred: acceptance of current social trends (victim mentality) vs
resistance for the sake of individual welfare and liberties (humanity). This conflict
serves as a warning to society, about the dangers of the general acceptance of social
evils and boldly illustrates the internal struggle that rebels face in choosing to rebel.
Offred is a Handmaid in the republic of Gilead and while she seems unhappy about
this, she is confused about her identity and even starts to accept the role that has
been imposed upon her. It seems strange that one might accept such radical
changes so easily. Offred has been manipulated into believing that this sinister
system was designed for her own good. Peter S. Prescott says: Offred at first
accepts assurance that the new order is for her protection. (151) She must lie on
her back once a month and hope that commander makes her pregnant because her
sole purpose is to act as a vessel. She even starts to measure her self worth by the
viability of her ovaries and this negatively affects her self image. This is how
36. Cognitive Neuroscience Essay
Cognitive Neuroscience is a comparatively new field focusing on exploring the
relationship between the human brain and the act of thinking, or cognition.
Essentially, cognition is the way in which our minds process information. The exact
type of information processed is varied and so cognition can cover a wide range of
stimuli. It includes the processing of things like visual perception and other sensory
information like touch, feel and taste. However, cognition can also be applied to
things like emotional responses, preferences, and decision making skills.
Some have described cognition as referring to, familiar psychological abilities such as
seeing, believing, imagining, guessing and inferring. (https://drive.google.com/file/d

Despite this persistent interest in the human thought process, Cognition has been
nearly impossible to study because of it s non physical nature. Only recent
technological advances have allowed for quantifiable, information and academic
study in the field of cognitive neuroscience.
This related field of technology is called Neuroimaging. Neuroimaging has been
very important to the expansion of Cognitive Neuroscience because it allows for a
visual representation of how certain sections of the brain respond to various outside
stimuli. For example, functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging(fMRI) is currently
being used in studies relating to how people purchase and consume food. Brain
activity is recorded and visualized as the mind reacts to things like brand names or
packaging
37. Banded Iron Formation Essay
Banded Iron Formations and evolution of the atmosphere
The time between the formation of the earth and the beginning of the
Cambrian(about 570mya) is a 4000 my long period known as the Precambrian, this
includes approximately 90% of geological time of which we know very little about as
pre Cambrian rocks are poorly exposed, many have been eroded or metamorphosed
and fossils are seldom found.
The Precambrian has been divided into 3 Eons: 1.Hadean (4600 3800 mya of which
there is no rock record) 2.Archean 3800 2500 mya) 3.Proterozoic 2500 570 mya.

These deposits of marine hematite and quartz represent a precipitation of dissolved
iron from sea water as the dissolved oxygen content of the water increased. After
1800 mya, Banded iron formations are rare, but terrestrial red beds are common for
the first time suggesting that iron is being oxidised and precipitated in soils and
rocks on land in the source area of sediments instead of being dissolved and carried
into the oceans in its unoxidised form. Thus, it has been reasoned that the BIF red
bed transition marks the rise of atmospheric oxygen. Complimentary information
comes from detrital uraninite in Archean and earliest Proterozoic alluvial rocks.
Because this uranium mineral can survive prolonged transport only in media
containing little or no oxygen, the lack of detrital uraninite deposits younger than
2300 ma also points towards a significant environmental transition (Roscoe,1969).
Not all scientists have accepted the validity of these observations or of their
interpretation, Dimroth and Kimberley(1976) argued that at least some red beds
antedate the end of BIF deposition, that Archean granites have paleoweathering
profiles indicative of oxic environments, and that oxidised sulphur minerals
(sulphates) occur in some of the oldest known sedimentary successions. All of these
observations are correct, and we must ask whether they

The Domestication of the Last Frontier
In 1865 the frontier line generally followed the western limits of the states
bordering the Mississippi River, bulging outward to include the eastern sections of
Kansas and Nebraska. Beyond this thin edge of pioneer farms, lay the prairie and
sagebrush lands that stretched to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Then, for
nearly 1,600 kilometers, loomed the huge bulk of mountain ranges, many rich in
silver, gold and other metals. On the far side, plains and deserts were part of this
region; here laid the Last Frontier the Great Plains . For a long time, the region had
been called the Great American Dessert, a barrier to cross on the way to the Pacific,

By 1890 the frontier had disappeared.
Settlement was spurred by the Homestead Act of 1862, which granted free farms
of 64 hectares to citizens who would occupy and improve the land. Under the
homestead Act of 1862 a farmer could either realize the old dream of free land and
simply by staking out a claim and living on it for years, or by buying the land at
$1.25 an acre after six months. (Tindall 878) Unfortunately for the would be
farmers, the land itself was suited more for cattle ranching than farming, and by 1880
nearly 22,400,000 hectares of free land was in the hands of cattlemen or the railroads.
In 1862 Congress also voted a charter to the Union Pacific Railroad, which pushed
westward from Council Bluffs, Iowa, using mostly the labor of ex soldiers and Irish
immigrants. At the same time, the Central Pacific Railroad began to build eastward
from Sacramento, California, relying heavily on Chinese immigrant labor. The
whole country was stirred as the two lines steadily approached each other, finally
meeting on May 10, 1869, at Promontory Point in Utah. The months of laborious
travel hitherto separating the two oceans was now cut to about six days. The
continental rail network grew steadily, and by 1884, four great lines linked the
central Mississippi Valley area with the Pacific.
The first great rush of population to the Far West was drawn to the mountainous
regions, where gold was found in California in 1848, in Colorado

1. Introduction
The classic example used to describe the capitalistic greed and oppression of the
developed world is Big Pharma : pharmaceutical companies apparently commit
fraud, cover up their mistakes, and increase prices of their products for maximum
profits. This criticism of pharmaceutical companies is sometimes justified, especially
in the issue of neglected tropical diseases (NTD). NTDs are a group of diseases that
predominantly affect less economically developed populations but are eliminated in
the developed world. Effective treatment for various NTDs have existed since the last
century, but pharmaceutical companies have historically not catered to NTD patients
because it was not commercially profitable (WHO, Intensified 2). ... Show more

To explore these ideas, this paper will analyze the historical shift to public private
partnerships, the motivations to invest in NTDs and partnerships, and the resulting
strategies that have surfaced to analyze NTDs.
2. Neglected Tropical Diseases: Overview
Neglected Tropical Diseases are a series of chronic, endemic tropical diseases that
predominantly affect less economically developed populations and are neglected in
the health industry (WHO, Investing 1). This definition is broad, as a large variety of
pathogens are tropical and poverty related. As a result, NTDs are diverse in their
biological makeup, ranging from airborne vectors to bacteria to worms. They are
spread and treated differently, and receive varying levels of attention from the public
and private sectors. Many tropical pathogens, notably typhoid fever, are not included
in the list of NTDs despite their debilitating effects on impoverished populations
(Hotez and Kamath 1).
The lack of a clear cut definition and the lack of research for NTDs creates a severe
underestimate of their disease burden, or their impact on economy, mortality,
morbidity, and general quality of life (Hotez and Kamath 1). The big three diseases
of our time, or the diseases that receive the most attention, are

Coming of Age Stories The Cultural Revolution could be defined as one of the

transition period in China and they left valuable gifts to the next generation in China.
When they recalled their sent down youth experience, both of them found the positive
point inside this dark period. In the period of Cultural Revolution, the sent down
youth movement made most people considers the meaning of life. According to

42. A Case Of Assisted Suicide By Jack Kevorkian
People have different ideas of a good essay. Essays that are interesting to the
readers. For an essay to be considered a good essay, it has to be entertaining, the
readers should be able to picture an image in their mind. For many others, they
may have different ideas about what a good writer is. For example, I don t like it
when writers give out too much information. They will describe things and go on
and on about it. Others might like this, but I don t like it when the writers do this.
Most writers have one of the qualities that I think makes a good writer. They don t
have to have all three qualities for me to think that it s a good essay. Essays should be

and kept the readers entertained by the way they wrote. They both kept me interested
in their essays.
Another quality a writer should have in his or her paper is giving examples or things
that the readers would find useful and use it themselves. In William Zinsser s The Act
of Writing: One Man s Method he gives a lot of information on writing a paper and
how to improve my writing skills. He talks about editing, cutting and revising (166).
The one that I use the most, after learning from him, is the bracket method. He says
that, The brackets might surround the little qualifiers... sentence that... repeats what
the previous sentence... (167). I use the brackets idea and it makes my essay a little
better. It really helps me to see what I had already said in the other sentence, so I can
change the sentence or delete it. Another writer that gives out good information is
Lewis Thomas. In Notes on Punctuation , Thomas talks about all kinds of
punctuation. He gives information on the parenthesis, semicolon, colon, dash,
comma, exclamation and quotation marks. Before I read his essay I didn t know
what or how to use a

The Influence of The History of Rasselas on A Vindication of the Rights of Woman
A surprising commonality found between Johnson s The History of Rasselas, Prince
of Abissinia and Wollstonecraft s A Vindication of the Rights of Woman is their
shared views on women s issues. This commonality is surprising since the two
authors had different political viewpoints. While Johnson was a conservative Tory,
Wollstonecraft was a social nonconformist and feminist. Although Wollstonecraft and
Johnson adhered to different political agendas, Wollstonecraft revered many of
Johnson s literary works.
One example of Wollstonecraft s admiration of Johnson is found in her uncompleted

In her argument for the merging of reason and sensibility she writes: And what is
sensibility? Quickness of sensation; quickness of perception; delicacy. Thus is it
defined by Dr. Johnson (63). She further states that Johnson s definition of sensibility
found in his Dictionary of 1755 is inadequate. She complains that the definition gives
me no other idea than of the most exquisitely polished instinct (63). Although
Wollstonecraft admires Johnson, his works are subject to the same scrutiny as
Rousseau s.
Wollstonecraft also refers to Johnson s Rambler essay The Mischiefs of Total
Idleness when she comments on the vanities of the rich. She writes:
What can be a more melancholy sight to a thinking mind, than to look into the
numerous carriages that drive helter skelter about this metropolis in a morning full
of pale faced creatures who are flying from themselves. I have often wished, with Dr.
Johnson, to place some of them in a little shop with half a dozen children looking up
to their languid countenances for support. (146)
In this instance, Wollstonecraft states her agreement with Johnson s belief that the
company of children would give health and spirit to the idle women.
While Wollstonecraft refers to Johnson s Dictionary and Rambler essays to
strengthen her argument in Vindication, many of her thoughts on women s issues are
similar to those found in Rasselas. One such similarity is found in Johnson and

Why is Manchester United Football Club so successful? Manchester United
Football Club (F.C.) is not only the biggest club in football club in England but
also one of the largest and most popular teams in the world according to World
Football / Soccer Clubs Ranking (Mitchell 2013). This investigation will focus on
the key factors leading to Manchester united success. Success can come from
players, coaches or even owners for providing financial resources but for
Manchester United the success came from winning trophies at early years under
impressive management.(Mitchell 2013) It also discusses players from the
academy and the role that experienced players had in the development of new
players and the club mentality. History Manchester United was founded as
Newton Heath LYR FC in 1878. In 1902 that club changed its name to Manchester
United Football Club and eight years later moved into their current stadium called
Old Trafford. The clubs historic stadium, also known as the Theatre of Dreams, has
been transformed over the years and is currently the biggest club stadium in
England beside Wembley. The clubs amazing haul of silverware started with the
Manchester Trophy in 1886, when they were still recognized as Newton Heath.

The poem, Suicide Note by Janice Mirikitani is very similar to the song, Jumper by
Third Eye Blind but differentiates in many ways, also. These two pieces of work
are very much similar in the way their themes are expressed through the use of
imagery and symbolism to help tell their story about suicide and how it has
affected them. The two pieces also differentiate when it comes to who is actually
narrating the story and the tone of voice being used. There is a lot of relationship
between the themes of the poem, Suicide Note and the song, Jumper . Both of these
works seem to correlate with the overall theme of suicide. The poem, Suicide Note ,
reflects on the tragedy of certain cultures where women are so degraded and devalued

John Krakauer s Into the Wild is a biography that covers a man s attempt to live life
off the grid and stray from the societal norms of mid nineties America in order to
achieve enlightenment. Throughout the story, the readers follow Chris McCandless

He explains how he was torn between quitting his job, which was necessary for the
income, or continuing to venture into the wild, searching for new places to climb.
Krakauer never had any doubt that climbing the Devil s Thumb would transform
his life. How could it not? (135). This technique of rhetorical questioning requires
the reader to think of Krakauer s options and aims to make the readers predict
where Krakauer his headed, leaving his job in search for climbing opportunities.
After Krakauer clues the reader about his future plans, he then goes on to tell them
of the day he quit his job. He writes the next few sentences in problem solution
format, noting ...after nine hours of humping two by tens and driving sixteen penny
nails, I told my boss I was quitting (135,136). This concise problem solution
sentence format notifies the reader that Krakauer was sure of his decision to quit his
job. He did not need much time to think about this life changing decision, assuring
the readers that he has been waiting for this lifestyle of adventure and freedom.
Simply put, Krakauer and McCandless both operate on whims and are sure of their
48. Macedon s Great Expansion Of The Macedonian Kingdom
Starting in the year 399 B.C.E., The Macedonian kingdom fell into anarchy for a
forty year span. Macedon was about to fall and disintegrate until King Philip II rose
to power and transformed the Macedonian Kingdom.1 Little did Philip know at the
time that Macedonia would become a powerful and successful kingdom. The
Macedonian Kingdom worked for many great achievements. The Macedonians
spread Hellenistic culture throughout most of the West. Lead by Alexander, the
Macedonians also had great expansion. They also made landmarks in science and
mathematics. The Hellenistic world s greatest achievements were the spreading of
their knowledge to the areas they conquered and the Macedonian expansion. First of
all, to spread knowledge and culture, the kingdom must be able to expand and
conquer. Alexander and the Macedonians were great at conquering and expanding.
Alexander s great expansion is an Hellenistic achievement in itself. After King Philip
was assassinated by his wife, Alexander came to great power.1 The first mission
Alexander embarked on as the new king was an invasion of the military powerhouse
Persia. Alexander and the Macedonians won his first battle against the Persians on the

is business or personal. Over the years, the use of social media has skyrocketed
within our youths and adults and has held a tremendous impact within society ever
since it was introduced. The impact of social media on society such as Facebook,

for promoting yourself, your feelings, and thoughts with the world or followers. Since

51. Social Darwinism In Mcteague
Social Darwinism is the social concept based on Charles Darwin s theory of natural
selection. It suggests that human social organization is based on the survival of
the fittest and that certain class and races dominate because they are biologically
superior. Frank Norris applies this theory to his novel, McTeague. Creating diverse
characters, he was able to showcase the different aspects of class and race to show
how some are more fit than others. Norris shows how people in certain social classes
either rise or fall based on their actions. Norris showed the two sides of Social
Darwinism when McTeague and Trina tried to change their social classand when Old

Darwinism,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Old Grannis and Miss Baker spent years living next to each other but not speaking
to one another. They spoke to each only a handful of times, becoming so
embarrassed by their interactions. Everyday, they would enjoy each other s
company through the wall that separated their rooms. When Old Grannis would
bind books, Miss Baker would sit by the wall and drink a cup of tea. They did not
try to force their love or look for money. Even when Old Grannis sold his book
binding machine, he still felt a void in his life. After many years of living next to
each other, they finally tried to fill their emptiness with love. Miss Baker made the
bold move of bringing Old Grannis a cup of tea during the time they would sit by
the wall. From the simple act of offering a cup of tea, they were able to realize that
they truly did love each other. Old Grannis and Miss Baker were able to survive in
society because they did not force their love. Frank Norris showed that Old
Grannis and Miss Baker were biologically superior because they survived, while
everyone else died. Frank Norris showed the varied effects of Social Darwinism in
society when the McTeagues died and when Old Grannis and Miss Baker were able
to prosper. McTeague and Trina changed their class through occupation and wealth.
Their quick change led to their fall in society. Old Grannis
52. The Elementary And Secondary Education Act
The The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), was revamped in 2001
as the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). Due to the time period of the inception
and now, there is a pressing need for reform. Even when the law expired four years
ago, Congress continued to update the out of date NCLB Act was never seriously
considered by the House Committee on Educationand the Workforce until now. Since
the Republicans assumed control of the House of Representatives, they have created
and passed a series of reaffirmation bills out of the particular committee such as the
Empowering Parents through Quality Charter Schools Act, which passed through the
House of Representatives with a great bipartisan majority. This bill is part of the
attempt to reform the outmoded NCLB Act.
At inception, the NCLB Act was thought of as revolutionary, and in some ways it
was. The larger use of data helped superintendents, school boards, and teachers
identify students that were in need of additional instruction and offered parents a
view of the quality of the schools. But, even with these innovations, the NCLB Act
had some weaknesses. The Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is a one size fits all
standard that hampers states and school districts ability to appropriately gauge the
learning done by the students and to tailor the schools curriculums to enable the
students to graduate high schools successfully prepared for any postsecondary
education or the workforce. The system of mandated
53. Theme Of Accident In Grendel
There are many explanations about why the world and everything function the way
they do. People come up with different answers because of their different beliefs.
However, for a period of time, fatalism was widely accepted, and it began to enter the
realm of literature. In the novel Grendel, John Gardner employs the motifs accident,
mechanism, and timeto demonstrate that fate controls all creatures destiny.
John Gardner explicitly conveys the motif accident to indicate that fate controls all
creatures destiny. In the last chapter of Grendel, the major difference between
Beowulf and Grendel appears at where Grendel totally attribute his failure in battle
to accident (169). Grendel thinks that Beowulf is just a human, and he can beat
Beowulf or at least flee away. But Grendel still loses in the battle due to an
accident that he slips on a puddle of blood. Grendel expresses his word to Beowulf
or fate with a sense of irony. He could get away from this situation, but an accident
happened and it brings everything back to the predestined path which predicts that
Grendel will lose and die. Accident is a thing that is not planed or out of
expectation which is supposed to lead Grendel out of the control of fate, but it
ironically traps Grendel in the story. Further, John Gardner mention accident in
Grendel s last few words which says that Poor Grendel s had an accident, (so) may
you all (174). These words to the animal and also to the readers can be either taken as
a curse or
54. The Roaring Twenties
Roaring Twenties
As Canadians take a glance on the 1920s, it was a time period that was compacted
with happiness and tremendous misery. At the beginning of the twenties era,
Canadians experienced life as a celebration. It was an age filled with non stop
dancing, and tuning to the radio. This was a generation before the T.V. was
fabricated and so people listened to the radio for enjoyment and music. The twenties
was a time period that many Canadians remember as the Roaring Twenties . The
Roaring Twenties was a decade comprised mainly of improvements, in many aspects.
Due to this being said, roaring twenties should indeed deserve its name, because big
advances both scientific and technological were being implemented, the ideal women
we know now were starting to form, and last but not the least jazz music was being
introduced(a.k.a the Jazz Age ). And these were just some of the reasons, about why
the Roaring Twenties deserves it s nickname.
In the Roaring Twenties, technology mainly cars, really took a step forward. Before
the 1920 s, cars were not a fuss among middle class people. However, soldiers who
fought in WWI bought cars when they came back victorious from the war; causing
many people to deduce how easy it was to travel that way, and suddenly everyone
desired one. Cars gave people more free time and made their lives more accessible
and effortless (Henry Ford advertised the new model T, which was the primary
reason behind people purchasing cars). The number of

During the weeks of February 7 through February 17, I observed a total hip
arthroplasty on a 56 year old Caucasian female patient who suffered from a femoral
neck fracture and damage to the acetabulum. The fracture was a result from a car
accident where the patient s knees collided with the dashboard, forcing the femur into
the hipand breaking the femur. For this report I will concentrate on total hip
replacement, its components, main surgical technique, and complications. Sir John
Charnleyfirst developed total joint arthroplasty in the 1960s (Skinner 395). In a total
hip replacement the articular surfaces of the acetabulum and femoral head are
replaced (Lemone 1241). A prosthesis is then used to replace the entire head of the
femur... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The acetabular components have a spherical outer surface with at least one hole to
permit the surgeon to determine if the prosthesis is fully impacted into place (Skinner
399). The inner surface of the acetabular component then locks the UHMWPE to
limit rotation and dissociation (Skinner 399). There are two crucial factors when
choosing the implants. First, if the prosthesis is too stiff then the patient may suffer
from proximal osteopenia. Second, the stiffer the prosthesis is the more likely the
patient will experience pain in the thigh. To avoid these two factors the surgeon
should elect to use titanium ally instead of the cobalt chromium alloy.
There are several surgical techniques used for total hip replacement, including the
posterolateral approach, the lateral approach, the anterolateral approach, and others.
For this paper I will concentrate on the posterolateral approach since it is the most
common (Skinner 396). The patient is put into the lateral decubitus position with
the affected side superior after anesthesia is administered and a compression
stocking is placed on the unaffected limb. The skin is covered with an adhesive
drape after the incision is outlined (Skinner 396). Then the hip is flexed to 45
degrees so the incision can be made in line with the femur from approximately 10 cm
proximal to the tip of the trochanter to 10 cm distal to the tip of the trochanter
(Skinner 396). The incision

is brought about when the rule of Kishkhinda is taken from Bali and given to
