Lab Report On Titration
Introduction: The Objective of the lab is to determine the mass percent of ascorbic acid
in a vitamin C tablet by titration with a sodium hydroxide solution of known
concentration. A titration is a procedure in which we measure the volume of a solution of
a solution of known concentration that is needed to completely react with volume of
NaOH analyzing. A buret is used to measure the amount of NaOH in titrationand it is a
piece of calibrated glassware used to accurately deliver volumes of a liquid or a
solution. To determine when the neutralization reaction is complete by adding an acid
base indicator(Phenolphthalein) and it changes color at the end point. To calculate the
mass percent ascorbic acid in the sample by using mass of ascirvuc acid, gmass of

1984 Essay and Persuasive Techniques

Big Brother is watching you (Orwell 2). This quote is from the novel 1984 by George
Orwell. In this book, the society is controlled by an all powerful government that capsizes
the people s brain so that there is no independent thought. Citizens are constantly being
watched and monitored while all they can do is support them and pour out hate to the
enemy thinking the party is always right. Hope comes to a man named Winston, the
protagonist, a lone man who secretly opposes the manipulation of the mind. After the plot
unravels, Winston begins to show his opposition against the party. The party controls
everything in the society and puts everything the way they want it to be, endlessly
reminding people that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is clear that Orwell uses the technique of reasons to develop his theme that thoughts
can be controlled. Moreover, Orwell uses the technique of loaded words to develop
his theme of thoughts being controlled. With a tremulous murmur that sounded like
My Savior! She extended her arms toward the screen. Then she buried her face in her
hands. It was apparent that she was uttering a prayer (Orwell 16). Citizens are
brainwashed and controlled to have deep feelings about Big Brother and that it is
everything. Other citizens are also brainwashed the same way because they see others
doing this and follow the people around them, The horrible thing about 2 Minutes Hate
was not that one was obliged to act a part, but that it was impossible to avoid joining in
(Orwell 11). Peer pressure makes people think it is right to do many things. Controlling
minds and truth is ultimate power. Truth is subordinated to the Party (Davis 250). Fake
history is also created. Citizens will believe anything the Party puts in books. Their
minds are too controlled to rebel against the party. Fake enemies are also created. It
relieves the citizens anger when they are allowed to say anything against them. It is
shown that Orwell uses the technique of loaded words to expand his theme of controlling
thoughts. Last, Orwell uses the technique of bandwagon appeal to expand his theme of
thought control. The party is able to control real life
Asthma Essay
Asthma is a condition of the bronchial tubes characterized by episodes of constriction and
increased mucous production. A person with asthma has bronchial tubes that are super
sensitive to various stimuli, or triggers, that can produce asthma symptom. In other words,
asthmatics have special sensitivity that causes their lung tissue to react far more than is
should to various stimulating factors or triggers. For this reason, people with asthma are
said to have quot;twitchy airways. quot; Some symptoms that people with asthma
commonly experience are chesttightenings, difficulty inhaling and exhaling, wheezing,
production of large amounts of mucous in their windpipes and coughing.Coughing can be
frequent or intermittent, and can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To make matters worse, mucous enters the narrowed bronchial tubes and plugs them up,
causing a further decrease in air flow. The bronchial tubes seem to close down, and air
moving through these narrowed breathing passages can cause wheezing which is a high
pithched whistlelike sound. Wheezing can be loud enough to be heard across a room, or
it can be so slight that is takes a stethoscope to hear it.
Airflow obstructions leads to air trapping in lungs. Once trapped, stale air builds up in the
lungs.Asthma attacks can be so mild they re hardly noticed or so severe that asthmatics
can feel like they re suffocating. Although more attacks seem to occur at night, they can
virtually happen anytime. Attacks may come on very suddenly, or they may develop
slowly over a period of hours or days.Among other contributing factors, asthmatics have
an imbalance in their autonomic nervous system that controls the reactivity of their
windpipes. The imbalance causes their windpipes to become over reactive to many
different stimulating factors, or triggers.
An asthmatic trigger can be any stimulus that brings about or sets off asthma
symptoms.Asthma triggers vary widely among asthmatics. The most common triggers
are allergies, irritating substances such as dust, fumes, odors and vapors. Environmental
factors, including weather changes and air
Women s Rights Movement
The Women s Rights Movement
Women s Suffrage is a subject that could easily be considered a black mark on the
history of the United States. The entire history of the right for women to vote takes
many twists and turns but eventually turned out alright. This paper will take a look at
some of these twists and turns along with some of the major figures involved in the
suffrage movement. The first recorded instance in American history where a woman
demanded the right to vote was in 1647. Margaret Brent, a property owner in Maryland
wanted two votes in the newly formed colonial assembly to represent her vote and the
vote of Lord Baltimore whom she held power of attorney. (Pleck, 2007) The governor
eventually turned down her demands. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The AWSA supported the 15th amendment and wanted to fight for women s rights in the
states separately. (Pleck, 2007) The two movements eventually reunited in 1890 to
become the National American Woman Suffrage Association led by Susan B. Anthony
until 1900 when Carrie Chapman Catt took over. Catt was integral in the strategy to
work for women s suffrage on both the federal and state level upon her re election to
president of the NAWSA in 1915 which led to another faction split between the
NAWSA and a group led by Alice Paul who believed that the major push of the fight
needed to be focused at the federal level. (About.com, 2007) Finally all the hard work
of the women s movement paid off in the summer of 1920 with the ratification of the
19th amendment. This was not an easily won victory however. Congress first took up
the issue in 1915 but the bill lost in the voting and was shelved for almost three years.
( Women s Suffrage, 2007) On the eve of the vote President Wilson made a widely
publicized appeal for the passage of the bill and this time the bill barely passed with
the need two thirds majority. However, the bill failed to gain the necessary votes to
pass the Senate even with another of President Wilson s appeals for the passage of the
bill. The bill would be voted down twice over the following year before finally gaining
The Physical Pain Of The Worst Pain
Up to now, I have only described the physical pain. Which as it turns out was and is
not even close to being the worst pain. The worst pain resides way back in that dark
place you do not want to go, because you know if you allow yourself to crawl there, you
may never come back. All along the way, through this journey through pain, I have always
allowed time to beat myself up and question everything about whom, why and how come
I made the choices I have made. I questioned my manhood. I questioned my dedication. I
questioned everything but the truth. I was physically unable to do it. The mental
exhaustion from the physical limitations were impeding my judgement. Admitting this
would mean acknowledging I was not a man. I would be unable to provide for my family.
I was pushing myself closer to that dark spot. I was getting down on myself. I had
already pushed people away with my attitude and misery. As each day passed, and I
realized another person I had hurt or bad decision I made, I became more distant and
reclusive. More bitter, more angry and I could not stop it. What I was failing to realize
was I was already on the spiral slide down the dark abyss to hell. I would go through this
never ending cycle. The center of the circle is pain and circling around it are
depression, anger and anxiety. It was a never ending cycle. Always in one of those dark
places.
The pain, as is my leg, is gone. I am not sure how eight years of pain wound up
disappearing that quickly. The hard part
Scornful Comedy In Toy Story
Theme and Scornful Comedy within Toy Story From using aspects of scornful
comedy, the film Toy Story s theme is more easily identified. Elements of scornful
comedy help to reveal the theme within Toy Story. A possible primary subject matter in
the film is that everyone has the capacity of good and evil. This theme is shown
throughout the character Woody, for in the beginning of the movie he makes an
irrational decision, but eventually learns of why his action was in the wrong. Due to the
loss of his position as Andy s favorite toy, Woody is overcome with jealousy and pushes
his challenger, Buzz, out the window. Because of this, the toys that once looked up to
Woody turn against him and begin to look at Buzz as their leader. After this,
True Bearings And The Geometric Coordinate System
TRUE BEARINGS AND THE GEOMETRIC COORDINATE SYSTEM
Investigation
Introduction
A true bearing is a mathematical term used to define the point of the angle measured in
degrees, in a clockwise direction, from the north point. A true bearing must always be
written using 3 figures, for example, it is written as 042В° rather than 42В°. True
bearings are used for specific purposes relating to coordinating geography mapping and
navigation.
A geographic coordinate system is properly known as GSC is a 3 dimensional surface in
a figure of the sphere used to outline specific locations on the planet, Earth. A GSC
comprises of different terms such as an angular unit of measure, a datum and a prime
meridian all used to find a specific point. Longitudinal and latitudinal waves are the
angles measured in degrees from the earth s centre to help outline a specific point on the
earth s visible surface.
The midway of the latitudinal line is referenced as the equator whilst the midway of the
longitudinal line is referenced as the prime meridian. The GSC is used to project a certain
point of the earth s surface using latitudinal and longitudinal lines and height using a
datum.
Aim
The aim of this investigation was to develop an understanding of true bearings and the
coordinate geographic system. The use of online mapping tools was needed to help
develop skills.
The result of most questions ended with a degrees sign to represent it was an angle.
The desired points chosen were placed in a
An Analysis of White Teeth by Zadie Smith
Zadie Smith s multicultural, post colonial novel has been widely discussed in the
literary world. At the age of 25, Zadie Smith captures the immensely believable lives of
an aging Bangladeshi Muslim man, a too concerned middle class white woman poking
her nose in all the wrong business, and an adolescent half Jamaican girl with self esteem
issues. Over the span of about 30 years, the three families in the book undergo a wide
web of separate but somehow connected circumstances, and Smith became an award
winning author because of her writing.
It is not to say that Smith has not gone through criticism. Here s what one review had to
say about the (at the time) budding author:
This kind of precocity in so young a writer has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She earns her awards through an expansive, almost manic style that she makes her own,
which is why it earns its placement into the genre coined hysterical realism
(Wood). In studying the many parts that make up her style, we can gain a better
appreciation for what made Zadie Smith jump from an English undergraduate student in
Cambridge to the literary darling she is today (O Grady).
The first technique to be mentioned involves a quality of the book that is first displayed
before the story even starts, enveloped in a quote on a single page before her
acknowledgments:
What is past is prologue . And to White Teeth, it s true; every major instance in the plot
is somehow rooted in the previous generation. Smith s style in developing this central
idea is much like the spastic jumping of time sequence that film director Quentin
Tarantino displays, enriching the detail of the stories involved by going to scenarios
before the main action, returning to the present plot, and even returning back to the past
to reveal even more that has been withheld. A notable example of this is one of the last
scenes in the book, with Archie uncovering what actually happened in his first encounter
with Dr. Sick , previously concealed by Smith with the sound of a gun shot and Archie s
limping features. But this style is featured not just as a method of obscuring plot and
creating suspense;
Heart Of Darkness Kurtz Essay
Heart of Darkness, written by James Conrad, is one of the most significant novellas of
the early 1900 s literature. It is written in frame narration, with the main perspective
being Charlie Marlow, the philosophic sailor, as he tells his friends the story of his
voyage to Congo and how he came to meet the infamous ivory dealer; Kurtz.
Throughout the novella, Kurtz is presented to us by second hand information. All
sources Marlow comes across discusses his grandiose and exceptional intelligence,
however, they also seem to fear him and his power. It is interesting to explore the effect
created as we compare the information we obtain of Kurtz from others who have met or
heard him, to that of when we finally meet him for ourselves Throughout the... Show

He mentioned his thin arm , and how he could see the cage of his ribs all astir , giving
the sickly impression of him being frail and malnourished. He continues to explain
how his eyes shone darkly far in its bony head that nodded with grotesque jerks. This is
an extremely effective description as eyes are usually associated with shining bright,
however, Marlow makes it clear that his were the opposite, which illuminates how
Kurtz got so consumed in the darkness of the Congo, or as Marlow previously says,
how many powers of darkness have claimed him for their own . The verb jerks
suggests that Kurtz was so weak and fragile that he was unable to prop his own head
up. He was also described as an image of death carved out of old ivory , emphasising
how Kurtz had also turned into his own obsession. Kurtz s bodily sickness and decay
may be seen as a metaphor for his diseased mind and corruption as he slowly
deteriorates. This description Marlow gives of Kurtz being so fragile and weak shows
the disparity compared to before we met him. Others claimed him to be so omnipotent,
intimidating and powerful, however, once we meet him ,he cannot fend for himself and
is left to rely on the Africans to do as he says. In addition to this, Marlow describes Kurtz
using the pronouns that and it often in this passage, almost dehumanising him. This
implies that he no longer viewed Kurtz
Vehicle Collision Narrative
There were two officer dispatched to the vehicle collision. The other officer talked with
each party and with those that witnessed the accident. Officer Lewis took pictures,
sketched the scene, and took measurements. All of the information he gathered will
later go into a report he will write. My second ride a long was with Officer Helms. He
has been an officer with the Barstow PoliceDepartment for five years. He has always
wanted to be an officer. He like that he gets to encounter all types of situation and
individuals. He enjoys working with a smaller agency because he gets a more hands
on experience when there are bigger cases. While I rode with him you could tell he is
very passionate about what he does. I got to ride with Officer Helms for about four
hours. The first thing Officer Helms asked me if knew how... Show more content on

was apart of that morning and how the individual was connected to guns and drugs. He
allowed me to run license plates to find if anything hits in the system. We stopped one
individual who was jaywalking and gave him a warning and told him to use the
crosswalk. We got called to a traffic collision. The collision was a fender bender. It was
the first accident that the responding party had been in so she called 911. In incidents
where it is a minor collision the two parties would just exchange information. Officer
Helms made sure each party was ok and he gave them an incident report number for
future use. The final call that I experienced was a burglary in progress. We arrived at
an apartment complex. I stayed in the car, while two other patrol cars arrived for
backup. The call was a false alarm. It was the maintenance guy replacing a broken screen
door. The person who lived in the apartment was helping the maintenance
Dance Recital Narrative
It was toward the end of my third grade year when we had our dance recital. The sun
was shining outside, and everyone at Long s School of Dance was really excited to be
able to show our parents what we had been learning in class that year, even the high
schoolers. We had been preparing for this weekend for months, and everything was all
right up until the month of March when Clayton, our danceteacher s grandson, had to
start leaving dance early to make it to soccer practice in time. Clayton was the person
that everyone in our 3rd 5th class depended on to know the ballet and the tap dance, but
when he started to leave early, he did not learn them with us.

My mom had come to find us and talk to everyone in the group. Clayton was crying
and saying that his grandmother was going to kill him for not knowing the dance, even
though it was not his fault. My mother finally got him calmed down, and we went on
for ballet bows before we went back to the dressing room to get ready for the second half
of the show.
We had somehow remembered the t shirt number maybe it was that Clayton
remembered this dance, so we just followed him. After a few tap, jazz, and modern
dances, it was our time to perform again. We walked on stage with the music and stood
in the middle of the stage gazing out into the crowd. We had forgotten our tap dance too.
Everyone was mortified. Again we looked to our teacher, and she tried to help us. We
finally remembered the rest of the dance.
The next day we showed up early to relearn our dances, and that night we remembered
every single move and position we had to be in. It was a huge relief for us to be able to
perform the dances without a doubt in our minds that we were doing it

Othello and the Beautiful Character of Desdemona
The good character of Desdemona in William Shakespeare s tragic drama Othello meets
a wretched end because of the sinister treachery of an ancient. In this essay let us analyze
the beautiful character of Desdemona.
Valerie Wayne in Historical Differences: Misogynyand Othello comments on the proper
manner of interpreting Desdemona s body as referred to by an irate Othello:
Desdemona s body before her supposed adultery is here likened to a paper book, one of
the books of blank paper that Renaissance students used for practice in writing,
translation and copying. Othello imagines she has written whore there through
committing adulterous deeds. But ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to Iago s vulgar descriptions of Desdemona s involvement with the general,
Brabantio arises from bed and, with Roderigo s help, gathers a search party to go and

Desdemona will be much worse than before:
It is too true an evil: gone she is;
And what s to come of my despised time
Is nought but bitterness. (1.1)
So obviously the senator has great respect for his daughter, or at least for the comforts
which she has afforded him up the beginning of the play. This respect is shared by her
new husband Othello, who says to Iago
that I love the gentle Desdemona,
I would not my unhoused free condition
Put into circumscription and confine
For the sea s worth. (1.2)
Once that Brabantio has located Othello, the father presses charges publicly in order to
have Desdemona returned:
To prison, till fit time

Call thee to answer. (1.2)
The proceedings which take place before the Duke of Venice cause the father to
permanently lose his daughter, mostly due to Desdemona s own fluent presentation of
her point of view in the city council chamber. This results in Brabantio s virtual
disowning of her and not allowing her to live in his house while Othello s campaign
against the Turks in Cyprus is in
A Veteran Banned From Military Housing
Doberman Pinschers and German Shepherd dogs mark 100 years with the AKC. Both
German Shepherds and Dobermans were the Devil Dogs in WWII (Mahood). Both dog
breeds have given years of service to the military. Both dogs have been faithful loyal
companions and incredibly intelligent. Both dogs are ranked in the top five for
obedience and working intelligence ( Dogintelligence rankings ). Yet, the German
Shepherd is currently the militarypolice s working dog and its veteran companion, the
Doberman Pinscher, is currently banned from living in military bases. How is breed
banning fair or even effective? In January 5th 2009, the Department of the Army released
a memorandum announcing a new pet policy for families living on military base... Show

U.S. Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM) and the American Veterinary Medical
Association (AVMA) as well as many other organizations, believe that breed bans are
not the answer and is an inadequate solution to reducing dog bite fatalities on military
installations. They believe that a comprehensive approach versus breed bans is a
more realistic method of controlling dog bites within a community (Rolfe). Banning
breeds is a knee jerk response that is inappropriate and ineffective. Any breed can be
dangerous; there was a case where a Dachshund was involved in killing an 87 year old
woman ( 2005 dog bite fatalities ). This policy assumes that all dogs of a certain breed
is considered dangerous and will bite, instead of acknowledging that most dogs will
not. Another issue is breed identification. According to the memorandum, the dog will
be not be allowed if officials think it looks like one of the banned breeds. That makes
the policy unfair even to dogs that are not from the so called dangerous breeds. For
example, a Labrador Boxer mix, the result looks a lot like a Pit Bull, but are in no way
related. Or certain black and tan Labradors that look like Rottweilers. The deciding
factor is not breed, it is ownership. Irresponsible ownership in the form of poor care,
neglect, etc. results in a potentially dangerous dog. Irresponsible owners will just get a
dog that is not banned

The Effect of Beer on Chilli Plant
Chillis are grown as ornamental decorative plants and for their fruits, these can then be
harvested when green and it could be used for some cuisines, or be left to ripen, mainly
to red but some will turn orange, this usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks. Chillis will grow
in similar conditions as tomatoes although better results are achieved in higher
temperatures and oppressiveness. A better crop will be achieved by growing under glass,
although they can be cultivated outdoors in sheltered sites with plenty of sun.

people can t think that a yeast is a fungus? When we add a fungus to a soil, then the
fungus grows. It grows and it doesn t aid in feeding our plant at all. It just have an

Lastly, we come up to the conclusion that using beer is really necessary but expensive at

The Cove Film Analysis
The Cove (Louie Psihoyos, 2009) is a documentary, which follows activist Ric O Barry
and The Ocean Preservation Society to expose the brutal dolphin slaughter in Taiji,
Japan. The film constructs a sense of realism through naturalistic aesthetic codes and
conventions. These conventions relate to the texts content, style, form and audience
response and reception. The Cove employs these four levels of realism to construct a
sense of authenticity and to position the audience into understanding a negative point of
view portrayed about the dolphinslaughter in Taiji. The convention of content in the
documentary concerns the implementation of true events, as well as the casting of real

Robert Rauschenberg s Almanac Essay
Robert Rauschenberg s Almanac
Born on October 22nd 1925 in the oil refining city of Port Arthur, Texas neГЁ Milton
Ernest Rauschenberg, he later renamed himself Robert after his Grandfather.
Rauschenbergs father was one of the many blue coloured workers in the oil refineries
whilst his mother worked as a telephone operator. He first studied art during his final
years at high school but this was quickly cut short when in 1943 he entered the local
University of Texas to study Physics only to be expelled in his first year due to
learning difficulties, dyslexia, which was then not recognised and so from there he
entered into military service with the navy for one year working in the hospitals as he

He was one of the first artists to experiment with blueprint paper in the early fifties, and
then he began to incorporate the everyday found objects and daily media images from
the press, he wanted to act in the gap between art and life and found mediums that best
did that for him whether it be photographs, (he often would have a camera on him and
built up an extensive library of images from his travels through life), magazine clippings,
junk, found used objects or images from history books.
The Dada movement formed during the First World War clearly affected Robert s
work; they promoted the use of collage and assemblage, in particular artists such as
Kurt Schwitters and Hannah Hoch as well as artists of the movement such as Man Ray
being the first to adopt photographic materials for artistic purposes. Dadaists broke
down the boundaries between art and everyday life, for they were concerned with
provoking the public into reacting to their activities and Rauschenberg too did not want
to create enduring masterpieces for an elite but to further a perpetual process of
discovery in which everyone could participate
It was in 1962 that Rauschenberg picked up the silk screening process and both he and
Andy Warhol explored this new technique together.
The process for Almanac would consist of him enlarging his chosen images onto the
photosensitive silk screens, which he would then lay on top of the canvas and force the

Joseph In The Short Film New Boy
In the short film New Boy directed by Steph Green a character that developed a
message was Joseph. In the film sound effects, body language and isolation were used
to help develop the message of how Joseph was affected by his past and present. These
choices by Green help us to understand that Joseph was a shy less involved person in the
present, but more comfortable and outgoing person in the past.
Sound effects where used in the film to help develop Joseph s message. Sound effects
helped enforce the idea by linking certain sounds to a specific memorable moment in his
life. An example of this is when the milk cartons hit the wall and he has a flashback to
the moment of the gunshots in Africa. The sound effects of the milk hitting the wall
Effective Classroom Environment Essay
Creating and maintaining effective environments for student learning can be a highly
difficult task for classroom teachers in moderate to severe special education
classrooms. When you have students of various levels of academics, social skills and
behavior needs it is challenging to know where to start and where to begin in creating
a behavior management system. During my time at Brandman we focused a lot on
how to create a positive classroom culture and how to create effective classroom
environments. I had opportunities at Brandman to learn to create individual behavior
plans and how to track student behaviors while targeting specific behavior and social
skills goals. It is my personal belief that students learn best by having a positive
environment where they are able to feel supported, respected and safe. The demographic
of my student population also creates a large need for my students to have structure and
feel safe as they do not always get that support outside of the classroom. For many our
school and classroom is their safe place where they receive the attention that they need
and deserve. Through my classes at Brandman I learned that establishing clear behavioral
expectations, reinforcing positive behaviors, and creating routines and procedures for
structure and safety, you will then establish a classroom environment where students can
reach their highest potentials and will thrive in a secure safe environment. I always base
our classroom goals from our school motto
A Virtual Community By Rene Lysloff
A virtual community is a type of imagined community and is a difficult concept to define;
the ambiguous nature of this concept is highlighted by the many definitions created by
researchers. A Virtual Community is when Individuals communicate and form a
relationship with each other in a computer mediated space with the use of technology .
Anthropologists undergo the practice of participation observation on the internet ,
allowing them to experience a virtual community; this shapes their understanding and
knowledge of this concept. For that reason each individual has different criteria which
they believe a community must correlate to, in order for it to be classed as a virtual
community. Furthermore, another issue surrounding the ability ... Show more content on

Furthermore, the Oxford definition states that a Virtual Community is a community of
people sharing common interests, Ideas and feelings over the Internet . However, this
definition does not consider the non physical space at which this community materializes

Cyberspace Webopedia
There are different types of Imagined Communities, including virtual and digital. In
virtual communities the people involved are characters and are non existent, an example
of this is Cybercity. Alternatively , Social Networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter
are considered digital as they consist of people with real identities and the actions they
make on the net have real effects outside of Cyberspace . Barry Wellman, author of
imagining twitter as an imagined community views Twitter to as both real and Imagined,
real because participants interact with each other and have decisions have real life
consequence and Imagined because they all share a sense of community . This imagined
sense of community corresponds to Benedict Anderson s view of nationalism. Benedict
Anderson s concept of Imagined Communities is a good starting point into understanding
the concept of Virtual Communities. In Benedict Anderson s book Imagined
Communities Reflections of the origins and spread of nationalism, he defines the nation
as a imagined political community (B. Anderson 2006, p.7 ). Imagined because
Rote Learning Worksheet
What memories do you have of learning from when you were a young child? Do you
remember doing worksheets or do you remember playing? While worksheets do teach
information on a rote memory basis, allowing children to learn through play is
educational in a more personal way. It promotes social and emotional development, helps
develop a love for both school and learning, and allows children to learn through their
own experiences.
Imagine looking at an amazing art piece made by a famous artist and then trying to
copy it. Think of the frustration of the two pieces not looking similar enough for your
personal acceptance. Looking at an adult made project as a young child and trying to
copy it can be frustrating for young kids. Teacher modeled projects can make children
frustrated. Young children need to be able to explore their own worlds by learning
through play and enjoyment. Forcing children to do things the way you want them to,
hinders their self acceptance, excitement to learn and also harms their creativity and
imagination.

Rote learning does not allow for a deeper learning of the subject being taught. This
learning style makes it harder on teachers to know if their students truly understand what
is being taught because the child may be able to memorize the answers and not be
understanding them. Meaningful learning involves understanding how all the pieces of
an entire concept fit together. (www.oxfordlearning.com) Meaningful learning allows

Naturalistic Observations Of Naturalistic Observation
What is naturalistic observation? How does a researcher collect data when conducting
naturalistic observation research?
Naturalistic observation gathers data to provide a complete and accurate picture of
what occurs in a setting, (Cozby Bates, 2014, P. 119). The observation describes
qualitatively events such as how people make decisions and how they solve problems
using the skills individually and sometimes as a group think (Cozby Bates, 2014).
Naturalistic observations take place in a normative setting such as sports event, work
cycle, and observes behaviors in general or in a particular setting. The observation
supports information on previously acquired skill such as natural tendencies such as
smiling or laughing, enthusiasm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2016, P.59). Observational study in a naturalistic setting allows the participants to feel
comfortable expressing how they think and feel about difficult topics and discussions.
Those observations become the story of that which is studied. Grounded theory,
according to Trochim et al. (2006) creates a setting where the researcher develops
theories and questions and then uses the qualitative data to expand the theory and
questions with links of understanding (P. 62). Those links of understanding help provide
a better how and why of research.
Distinguish between participant and nonparticipant observation; between concealed and
unconcealed observation.
Cresswell (2009) elaborates on the different roles of the researcher in observation (P.
182). The roles of an observer include conducting observation as a participant or just an
observer, or unconcealed. The roles of observer can also include spending time as a
participant and then becoming an observer or spending more time as an observer or
participant and then filling the opposing role (observer or participant). Another role
option for the observer is to observe from the outside and move into the setting, not as a
participant but rather situated in the setting. Depending on the frame of the information
gathered any of these situations are acceptable as the data gathering or researcher doesn t
become intrusive or exclusive in whom they observe to prove a point.
How Unionism Has Impacted the Airline Industry in Us
How unionism has impacted the Airline industry in US
Penn State Harrisburg
Abstract In the wake of a sizable slump in demand driven by economic downturns,
terrorism attacks (especially the events of September 11, 2001) as well as increased
competition from low cost carriers, many incumbent U.S. airlines have been attempting a
fundamental restructuring of their operations. Many would argue that a central element
in this restructuring should include an overhaul of the labor management relationship.
This paper presents information regarding labor unions in the airline industry of the US,
in order to analyze and then summarize main points of how they have impacted and
affected this industry overall.
1. Overview of the air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were major concerns regarding increased industry concentration of a few
dominant carriers controlling the market. As the airlines began to face a deregulatory
reality of competition and the resulting pressure on cost containment during the early
1980s, airline management put pressure on labor to provide the airlines with financial
relief, in order to survive. Reducing labor costs appeared to be the strategy of choice
for many carriers in the drive to maintain a competitive position in the industry if not
only for mere survival. Despite the carrier pressure on airline labor in the deregulatory
era, the airline industry remained one of the strongholds of traditional industrial
relations. Union density was estimated to be at 39.5 percent in the late deregulatory
period between 1983 and 1997. On the other hand, representation rates reached almost 50
percent during this regulatory period 5(Hirsh and Macpherson, 2000). Many believe that
deregulation leads to an erosion of union effectiveness, while regulation leads to increase
in union effectiveness. Despite the change in regulation of the industry, relations and
negotiations between airlines and their labor unions continues to be conducted in
accordance with the requirements of the Railway Labor Act (RLA). This act was passed
in 1926 after the railroads and their unions agreed to set in place a legal framework that
You Disappearing By Alexandra Kleeman Analysis
We are accustomed to worldly possessions that cause a reaction within us whenever
they go missing. As people grow aware of time and its limit, they begin to fear what
they will lose next and how much time is left. Most of us experience loss differently
whether it is gradual or quick. In the literary work, You, Disappearing , the narrator
deals with similar struggles in a world where loss is inevitable. Struggling to cope with a
disappearing world the protagonist holds on tightly to the thing she loves most, her lover.
This in exchange anchors her mind to reality and helps her deal with the struggles that
come with loss. Notably, the author Alexandra Kleeman develops a distinct style that
reflects theme by incorporating a conflict, point of... Show more content on

Throughout the work the reader can see the two characters gradually drift apart due to
their differences in attitudes and beliefs. To illustrate, both the narrator and her lover
see this quiet apocalypse as inescapable, but despite of this both characters use
different approaches to cope with these disappearances. For the most part, the main
character begins to isolate herself and clings to her lover for comfort. This is her way
of dealing with fear that comes with loss. On the other hand, her lover strives to
continue living a normal life despite the circumstances. He accepts that the world is
collapsing into nothing but hopes to add more to a disappearing world. This
difference in acceptance is noted by the narrator as well when she states, There are
two kinds of people and one will give up first, (Kleeman par. 19). In Bereavemnt in
adult life , doctors believe there is evidence that losses can foster maturity and personal
growth. Losses are not necessarily harmful. (Parkes, 1998) By this meaning, the reader
can see why both characters developed different approaches towards a shared conflict
and why one character seems to hold most of the reason. Altogether, by providing an
environmental conflict as well as a conflict in attitudes the author is able to advance her
theme that loss comes with
Differences Of Pablo Picasso And Diego Velazquez s Paintings

ZOOM
In 1656, Diego Velazquez made a painting titled, Las Meninas. He was a painter for a
royal family and many of his paintings consisted of the family. Many years later, Pablo
Picasso painted over 50 variations of this painting. One including his 1957 painting that
was based strongly on the princess of the royal family. Although both paintings can be
related to each other, they both each portray their own meanings. It may be easy to tell
that both paintings may be similar because of their appearance of the princess. In
Velazquez s painting, he paints five year old, Infanta Margarita, who is being helped by
many servants, including her bodyguard and dog. In Picasso s painting, he also includes
the princess, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Velazquez uses a realistic style to create a scene and tell a story, but Picasso uses
geometric shapes to study the princess s body and face. Another difference is the
people. Velazquez includes many people in his painting, including himself, while
Picasso only includes the princess and a maid. Because Velazquez adds so many people
into his painting, many people argue what his main focus was. However, in Picasso s
painting it is clear that he valued the princess, which makes her the main focus in his
painting. Another difference is the meaning of the paintings. Velazquez titled his painting
Las Meninas, or ladies in waiting. This is odd because many of the people in his
painting are focused on the princess, which may imply that she is the meaning of the
painting. But because of the title, it is confusing to tell what Velazquez was trying to
portray. However, Picasso takes up most of the space in his painting to draw the
princess. Although a maid can be seen in the painting, it is clear that Picasso was trying
to show the importance of the princess. Both artists painted these works to portray
something. It may not be clear, but I think Velazquez was trying to show the importance
of everyone in the castle. He includes himself, the princess, maids, king and queen, and
other figures to not put too much focus on one person. I think he uses this strategy to
show everyone is important and plays a specific role to make the royal castle so
important. This is also why he created

  • 3. 1984 Essay and Persuasive Techniques Keitachii Yang 10/1/12 Big Brother is watching you (Orwell 2). This quote is from the novel 1984 by George Orwell. In this book, the society is controlled by an all powerful government that capsizes the people s brain so that there is no independent thought. Citizens are constantly being watched and monitored while all they can do is support them and pour out hate to the enemy thinking the party is always right. Hope comes to a man named Winston, the protagonist, a lone man who secretly opposes the manipulation of the mind. After the plot unravels, Winston begins to show his opposition against the party. The party controls everything in the society and puts everything the way they want it to be, endlessly reminding people that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is clear that Orwell uses the technique of reasons to develop his theme that thoughts can be controlled. Moreover, Orwell uses the technique of loaded words to develop his theme of thoughts being controlled. With a tremulous murmur that sounded like My Savior! She extended her arms toward the screen. Then she buried her face in her hands. It was apparent that she was uttering a prayer (Orwell 16). Citizens are brainwashed and controlled to have deep feelings about Big Brother and that it is everything. Other citizens are also brainwashed the same way because they see others doing this and follow the people around them, The horrible thing about 2 Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a part, but that it was impossible to avoid joining in (Orwell 11). Peer pressure makes people think it is right to do many things. Controlling minds and truth is ultimate power. Truth is subordinated to the Party (Davis 250). Fake history is also created. Citizens will believe anything the Party puts in books. Their minds are too controlled to rebel against the party. Fake enemies are also created. It relieves the citizens anger when they are allowed to say anything against them. It is shown that Orwell uses the technique of loaded words to expand his theme of controlling thoughts. Last, Orwell uses the technique of bandwagon appeal to expand his theme of thought control. The party is able to control real life
  • 4. Asthma Essay Asthma is a condition of the bronchial tubes characterized by episodes of constriction and increased mucous production. A person with asthma has bronchial tubes that are super sensitive to various stimuli, or triggers, that can produce asthma symptom. In other words, asthmatics have special sensitivity that causes their lung tissue to react far more than is should to various stimulating factors or triggers. For this reason, people with asthma are said to have quot;twitchy airways. quot; Some symptoms that people with asthma commonly experience are chesttightenings, difficulty inhaling and exhaling, wheezing, production of large amounts of mucous in their windpipes and coughing.Coughing can be frequent or intermittent, and can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To make matters worse, mucous enters the narrowed bronchial tubes and plugs them up, causing a further decrease in air flow. The bronchial tubes seem to close down, and air moving through these narrowed breathing passages can cause wheezing which is a high pithched whistlelike sound. Wheezing can be loud enough to be heard across a room, or it can be so slight that is takes a stethoscope to hear it. Airflow obstructions leads to air trapping in lungs. Once trapped, stale air builds up in the lungs.Asthma attacks can be so mild they re hardly noticed or so severe that asthmatics can feel like they re suffocating. Although more attacks seem to occur at night, they can virtually happen anytime. Attacks may come on very suddenly, or they may develop slowly over a period of hours or days.Among other contributing factors, asthmatics have an imbalance in their autonomic nervous system that controls the reactivity of their windpipes. The imbalance causes their windpipes to become over reactive to many different stimulating factors, or triggers. An asthmatic trigger can be any stimulus that brings about or sets off asthma symptoms.Asthma triggers vary widely among asthmatics. The most common triggers are allergies, irritating substances such as dust, fumes, odors and vapors. Environmental factors, including weather changes and air
  • 5. Women s Rights Movement The Women s Rights Movement Women s Suffrage is a subject that could easily be considered a black mark on the history of the United States. The entire history of the right for women to vote takes many twists and turns but eventually turned out alright. This paper will take a look at some of these twists and turns along with some of the major figures involved in the suffrage movement. The first recorded instance in American history where a woman demanded the right to vote was in 1647. Margaret Brent, a property owner in Maryland wanted two votes in the newly formed colonial assembly to represent her vote and the vote of Lord Baltimore whom she held power of attorney. (Pleck, 2007) The governor eventually turned down her demands. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The AWSA supported the 15th amendment and wanted to fight for women s rights in the states separately. (Pleck, 2007) The two movements eventually reunited in 1890 to become the National American Woman Suffrage Association led by Susan B. Anthony until 1900 when Carrie Chapman Catt took over. Catt was integral in the strategy to work for women s suffrage on both the federal and state level upon her re election to president of the NAWSA in 1915 which led to another faction split between the NAWSA and a group led by Alice Paul who believed that the major push of the fight needed to be focused at the federal level. (About.com, 2007) Finally all the hard work of the women s movement paid off in the summer of 1920 with the ratification of the 19th amendment. This was not an easily won victory however. Congress first took up the issue in 1915 but the bill lost in the voting and was shelved for almost three years. ( Women s Suffrage, 2007) On the eve of the vote President Wilson made a widely publicized appeal for the passage of the bill and this time the bill barely passed with the need two thirds majority. However, the bill failed to gain the necessary votes to pass the Senate even with another of President Wilson s appeals for the passage of the bill. The bill would be voted down twice over the following year before finally gaining
  • 6. The Physical Pain Of The Worst Pain Up to now, I have only described the physical pain. Which as it turns out was and is not even close to being the worst pain. The worst pain resides way back in that dark place you do not want to go, because you know if you allow yourself to crawl there, you may never come back. All along the way, through this journey through pain, I have always allowed time to beat myself up and question everything about whom, why and how come I made the choices I have made. I questioned my manhood. I questioned my dedication. I questioned everything but the truth. I was physically unable to do it. The mental exhaustion from the physical limitations were impeding my judgement. Admitting this would mean acknowledging I was not a man. I would be unable to provide for my family. I was pushing myself closer to that dark spot. I was getting down on myself. I had already pushed people away with my attitude and misery. As each day passed, and I realized another person I had hurt or bad decision I made, I became more distant and reclusive. More bitter, more angry and I could not stop it. What I was failing to realize was I was already on the spiral slide down the dark abyss to hell. I would go through this never ending cycle. The center of the circle is pain and circling around it are depression, anger and anxiety. It was a never ending cycle. Always in one of those dark places. The pain, as is my leg, is gone. I am not sure how eight years of pain wound up disappearing that quickly. The hard part

Elements of scornful comedy help to reveal the theme within Toy Story. A possible primary subject matter in the film is that everyone has the capacity of good and evil. This theme is shown throughout the character Woody, for in the beginning of the movie he makes an irrational decision, but eventually learns of why his action was in the wrong. Due to the loss of his position as Andy s favorite toy, Woody is overcome with jealousy and pushes his challenger, Buzz, out the window. Because of this, the toys that once looked up to Woody turn against him and begin to look at Buzz as their leader. After this,
  • 8. True Bearings And The Geometric Coordinate System TRUE BEARINGS AND THE GEOMETRIC COORDINATE SYSTEM Investigation Introduction A true bearing is a mathematical term used to define the point of the angle measured in degrees, in a clockwise direction, from the north point. A true bearing must always be written using 3 figures, for example, it is written as 042В° rather than 42В°. True bearings are used for specific purposes relating to coordinating geography mapping and navigation. A geographic coordinate system is properly known as GSC is a 3 dimensional surface in a figure of the sphere used to outline specific locations on the planet, Earth. A GSC comprises of different terms such as an angular unit of measure, a datum and a prime meridian all used to find a specific point. Longitudinal and latitudinal waves are the angles measured in degrees from the earth s centre to help outline a specific point on the earth s visible surface. The midway of the latitudinal line is referenced as the equator whilst the midway of the longitudinal line is referenced as the prime meridian. The GSC is used to project a certain point of the earth s surface using latitudinal and longitudinal lines and height using a datum. Aim The aim of this investigation was to develop an understanding of true bearings and the coordinate geographic system. The use of online mapping tools was needed to help develop skills. The result of most questions ended with a degrees sign to represent it was an angle. The desired points chosen were placed in a
  • 9. An Analysis of White Teeth by Zadie Smith Zadie Smith s multicultural, post colonial novel has been widely discussed in the literary world. At the age of 25, Zadie Smith captures the immensely believable lives of an aging Bangladeshi Muslim man, a too concerned middle class white woman poking her nose in all the wrong business, and an adolescent half Jamaican girl with self esteem issues. Over the span of about 30 years, the three families in the book undergo a wide web of separate but somehow connected circumstances, and Smith became an award winning author because of her writing. It is not to say that Smith has not gone through criticism. Here s what one review had to say about the (at the time) budding author: This kind of precocity in so young a writer has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She earns her awards through an expansive, almost manic style that she makes her own, which is why it earns its placement into the genre coined hysterical realism (Wood). In studying the many parts that make up her style, we can gain a better appreciation for what made Zadie Smith jump from an English undergraduate student in Cambridge to the literary darling she is today (O Grady). The first technique to be mentioned involves a quality of the book that is first displayed before the story even starts, enveloped in a quote on a single page before her acknowledgments: What is past is prologue . And to White Teeth, it s true; every major instance in the plot is somehow rooted in the previous generation. Smith s style in developing this central idea is much like the spastic jumping of time sequence that film director Quentin Tarantino displays, enriching the detail of the stories involved by going to scenarios before the main action, returning to the present plot, and even returning back to the past to reveal even more that has been withheld. A notable example of this is one of the last scenes in the book, with Archie uncovering what actually happened in his first encounter with Dr. Sick , previously concealed by Smith with the sound of a gun shot and Archie s limping features. But this style is featured not just as a method of obscuring plot and creating suspense;
  • 10. Heart Of Darkness Kurtz Essay Heart of Darkness, written by James Conrad, is one of the most significant novellas of the early 1900 s literature. It is written in frame narration, with the main perspective being Charlie Marlow, the philosophic sailor, as he tells his friends the story of his voyage to Congo and how he came to meet the infamous ivory dealer; Kurtz. Throughout the novella, Kurtz is presented to us by second hand information. All sources Marlow comes across discusses his grandiose and exceptional intelligence, however, they also seem to fear him and his power. It is interesting to explore the effect created as we compare the information we obtain of Kurtz from others who have met or heard him, to that of when we finally meet him for ourselves Throughout the... He continues to explain how his eyes shone darkly far in its bony head that nodded with grotesque jerks. This is an extremely effective description as eyes are usually associated with shining bright, however, Marlow makes it clear that his were the opposite, which illuminates how Kurtz got so consumed in the darkness of the Congo, or as Marlow previously says, how many powers of darkness have claimed him for their own . The verb jerks suggests that Kurtz was so weak and fragile that he was unable to prop his own head up. He was also described as an image of death carved out of old ivory , emphasising how Kurtz had also turned into his own obsession. Kurtz s bodily sickness and decay may be seen as a metaphor for his diseased mind and corruption as he slowly deteriorates. This description Marlow gives of Kurtz being so fragile and weak shows the disparity compared to before we met him. Others claimed him to be so omnipotent, intimidating and powerful, however, once we meet him ,he cannot fend for himself and is left to rely on the Africans to do as he says. In addition to this, Marlow describes Kurtz using the pronouns that and it often in this passage, almost dehumanising him. This implies that he no longer viewed Kurtz

The sun was shining outside, and everyone at Long s School of Dance was really excited to be able to show our parents what we had been learning in class that year, even the high schoolers. We had been preparing for this weekend for months, and everything was all right up until the month of March when Clayton, our danceteacher s grandson, had to start leaving dance early to make it to soccer practice in time. We had somehow remembered the t shirt number maybe it was that Clayton remembered this dance, so we just followed him. After a few tap, jazz, and modern dances, it was our time to perform again. We walked on stage with the music and stood in the middle of the stage gazing out into the crowd. We had forgotten our tap dance too. Everyone was mortified. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... U.S. Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as well as many other organizations, believe that breed bans are not the answer and is an inadequate solution to reducing dog bite fatalities on military installations. They believe that a comprehensive approach versus breed bans is a more realistic method of controlling dog bites within a community (Rolfe). Banning breeds is a knee jerk response that is inappropriate and ineffective. Any breed can be dangerous; there was a case where a Dachshund was involved in killing an 87 year old woman ( 2005 dog bite fatalities ). This policy assumes that all dogs of a certain breed is considered dangerous and will bite, instead of acknowledging that most dogs will not. Another issue is breed identification. According to the memorandum, the dog will be not be allowed if officials think it looks like one of the banned breeds. That makes the policy unfair even to dogs that are not from the so called dangerous breeds. For example, a Labrador Boxer mix, the result looks a lot like a Pit Bull, but are in no way related. Or certain black and tan Labradors that look like Rottweilers. The deciding factor is not breed, it is ownership. Irresponsible ownership in the form of poor care, neglect, etc. results in a potentially dangerous dog. Irresponsible owners will just get a dog that is not banned

Effective Classroom Environment Essay Creating and maintaining effective environments for student learning can be a highly difficult task for classroom teachers in moderate to severe special education classrooms. When you have students of various levels of academics, social skills and behavior needs it is challenging to know where to start and where to begin in creating a behavior management system. During my time at Brandman we focused a lot on how to create a positive classroom culture and how to create effective classroom environments. I had opportunities at Brandman to learn to create individual behavior plans and how to track student behaviors while targeting specific behavior and social skills goals. It is my personal belief that students learn best by having a positive environment where they are able to feel supported, respected and safe. The demographic of my student population also creates a large need for my students to have structure and feel safe as they do not always get that support outside of the classroom. For many our school and classroom is their safe place where they receive the attention that they need and deserve. Through my classes at Brandman I learned that establishing clear behavioral expectations, reinforcing positive behaviors, and creating routines and procedures for structure and safety, you will then establish a classroom environment where students can reach their highest potentials and will thrive in a secure safe environment. I always base our classroom goals from our school motto

Naturalistic observation gathers data to provide a complete and accurate picture of what occurs in a setting, (Cozby Bates, 2014, P. 119). The observation describes qualitatively events such as how people make decisions and how they solve problems using the skills individually and sometimes as a group think (Cozby Bates, 2014). Observational study in a naturalistic setting allows the participants to feel comfortable expressing how they think and feel about difficult topics and discussions. Those observations become the story of that which is studied. Grounded theory, according to Trochim et al. (2006) creates a setting where the researcher develops theories and questions and then uses the qualitative data to expand the theory and questions with links of understanding (P. 62). Those links of understanding help provide a better how and why of research. Distinguish between participant and nonparticipant observation; between concealed and unconcealed observation. Cresswell (2009) elaborates on the different roles of the researcher in observation (P. 182). The roles of an observer include conducting observation as a participant or just an observer, or unconcealed. The roles of observer can also include spending time as a participant and then becoming an observer or spending more time as an observer or participant and then filling the opposing role (observer or participant). Another role option for the observer is to observe from the outside and move into the setting, not as a participant but rather situated in the setting. Depending on the frame of the information gathered any of these situations are acceptable as the data gathering or researcher doesn t become intrusive or exclusive in whom they observe to prove a point.

How Unionism Has Impacted the Airline Industry in Us How unionism has impacted the Airline industry in US Penn State Harrisburg Abstract In the wake of a sizable slump in demand driven by economic downturns, terrorism attacks (especially the events of September 11, 2001) as well as increased competition from low cost carriers, many incumbent U.S. airlines have been attempting a fundamental restructuring of their operations. Many would argue that a central element in this restructuring should include an overhaul of the labor management relationship. This paper presents information regarding labor unions in the airline industry of the US, in order to analyze and then summarize main points of how they have impacted and affected this industry overall. 1. Overview of the air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were major concerns regarding increased industry concentration of a few dominant carriers controlling the market. As the airlines began to face a deregulatory reality of competition and the resulting pressure on cost containment during the early 1980s, airline management put pressure on labor to provide the airlines with financial relief, in order to survive. Reducing labor costs appeared to be the strategy of choice for many carriers in the drive to maintain a competitive position in the industry if not only for mere survival. Despite the carrier pressure on airline labor in the deregulatory era, the airline industry remained one of the strongholds of traditional industrial relations. Union density was estimated to be at 39.5 percent in the late deregulatory period between 1983 and 1997. On the other hand, representation rates reached almost 50 percent during this regulatory period 5(Hirsh and Macpherson, 2000). Many believe that deregulation leads to an erosion of union effectiveness, while regulation leads to increase in union effectiveness. Despite the change in regulation of the industry, relations and negotiations between airlines and their labor unions continues to be conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Railway Labor Act (RLA). This act was passed in 1926 after the railroads and their unions agreed to set in place a legal framework that

On the other hand, her lover strives to continue living a normal life despite the circumstances. He accepts that the world is collapsing into nothing but hopes to add more to a disappearing world.
