Essay On Cell Phones In School
Writing an essay on the subject of cell phones in schools can be a challenging task that requires
careful consideration of various perspectives and arguments. The topic itself is multifaceted, as it
involves exploring the positive and negative aspects of allowing cell phones in educational
settings. One must delve into issues such as potential distractions, the impact on students'
academic performance, the role of technology in modern education, and the importance of
preparing students for the digital age.
Addressing the complexities of this topic requires thorough research to gather relevant
information, statistics, and studies. Analyzing various viewpoints from educators, parents, and
students is crucial to presenting a well-rounded argument. Crafting a coherent essay involves
organizing thoughts, structuring arguments logically, and ensuring a smooth flow of ideas.
Balancing the presentation of opposing views while maintaining a clear stance on the issue is
another layer of difficulty.
Moreover, the writer needs to consider the target audience and tailor the essay to their
expectations. Whether addressing educators, parents, or policymakers, the language, tone, and
level of detail may vary. Striking the right balance between objectivity and persuasion is key to
making a compelling case.
Additionally, incorporating real-life examples and anecdotes can enhance the essay's relatability
and engagement. However, it's important to remain objective and avoid relying solely on
emotional appeal. Citing reputable sources and providing evidence to support arguments is
essential for building credibility.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of cell phones in schools requires a nuanced
approach, thorough research, and careful consideration of various perspectives. It is a challenging
task that demands critical thinking, analytical skills, and effective communication. Those looking

I sent a message to Tristan at Hargreaves and Thomas on Whitcomb Street, he
managed to say in a wobbly voice. Just imagine, our grandson Sean would have
graduated this year from Oxford University law school. Unfortunately, his
diligence at always following the World Governing Body s initiatives got the
better of him on this occasion since he was amongst the first to receive the
Stinguard viral vector in England. As a result, Sean died nearly a week ago along
with many other students who also heeded the call to get the viral vector as soon
as possible. However, fortunately, Tristan and the rest of the family are not at risk
since they never found enough time to get the viral vector. They are alive only by
serendipity. Tristan kept crying about the end of the continuous line of succession at
the Hargreaves and Thomas law firm until I told him that was the least of our
worries. Of course, Sean was such a bright lad with his whole life ahead of him, but
Stinguard finished him off. Is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indeed, many families on Gnaritus shared the plight of the Hargreaves to greater or
lesser degrees. For example, Bob and Betina Pagett never fully recovered from the
sudden loss of their son and daughter. Miraculously, their young fifteen year old
granddaughter, Sophia, narrowly escaped from the Stinguard viral vector because she
had stayed home sick the entire week that her school was dispensing it. Similarly,
Alfonso s paternal uncle and maternal aunt had succumbed to the Stingaurd viral
vector. In contrast, Linda and Giuseppe Cavacecci rejoiced in all their blessings since
their three children had come through unscathed. Fortunately, Francesca s son had
also dodged the viral vector. Many others, such as the Ellisons, no longer kept up
with their extended families on Earth. However, a large segment of the population on

King Conceptual System Theory
An Overview of the Conservation Model and the Conceptual System Theory
Everything in life has a purpose for their existence, and each human being is valued
for their strength, knowledge, power but a lack of capability for interacting with
their surroundings can bring many obstacles in their way in other for the meaningful
and desirable goals to be reached. King s Theory of GoalAttainment bring a great
concentration on the accomplishments of certain life goals and this can only happen
if the nurse and the patient has the capacity to communicate and work together, and
only then these life goals can be achieved (George, 2011).
Levine s model encourages the use of adaptation and maintains integrity, energy
through the process of conservation. This is can be done with the help of nursing care
and nursing involvements. With encouraging conservation, a nurse can assist in
promoting the person s well being (George, 2011).
Kings Conceptual System Theory King had many believe based on his Conceptual
System Theory, he believes that each person views and interprets the world as an
entire being in making transactions with individuals and things in their surroundings.
He also believes that the exchange or interaction represents a life situation in which
the interpreter and what is being interpreted unexpectedly experiences and in which
the individual enters the situation as a dynamic partaker and is individually changed

The Paradox From Zeno And Mctaggart Essay
In this paper I will be discussing the concept of the paradox, examples from Zeno
and McTaggart, and how modern science has potential solved the paradox put forth
by McTaggart. Both of these paradoxes have a enormous repercussion on how
objective fact about the world can be understood. I claim that McTaggart s theory of
timecan be solved by modern physicsas Einstein s theory of relativity makes time a
relative factor in how time is understood. Before discussing the idea of paradoxes, I
will first describe what a paradox is. A paradox, strictly speaking, is when a theory
with logical premises leads to the creation of two logical, but contradictory,
conclusion. This definition of paradox works, but is very limited in scope of what
we can classify as a paradox. Thus modifying the definition of a paradox to mean
an argument that leads to wildly different conclusion... . Using this understanding
of paradox, I will give a famous example of a paradox thought up by the Greek
philosopher Zeno. I will now discuss Zeno s paradox of motion. Zeno argues that
motion does not exist through this argument: 1) there is an object at point A that is
moving to a point B; 2) in order to reach point B, the object must pass the halfway
point of points A and B; 3) we continue halving the remain distance and point B, all
the way up to infinity; 4) this means that the object is taking an infinite distance to
cross, and therefore, motion cannot exist, as an object cannot move an infinite
Space Invaders
It started for me in 1979, my fascination with asteroids and Near Earth Objects. I
didn t have a telescope, or any knowledge of the cosmos, Asteroids, was a game I
played. I would go down to the old railroad depot walk in to the bar restaurant, wait
my turn, then I would drop $5.00 in quarters. One after another, I would lose,
quarter and fighter ship, until they were all gone. Side note my little brother was
better at this game than me, he was even better at Space Invaders . At the time I
hated space invaders, it made me feel so claustrophobic, and when the speed and
music increased I would panic. Even back then when it came to technical things
people would have anxieties about what they couldn t do. Men would be afraid of

I would lay there in deep thought, if the sun gives us light, and it s in outer space,
then why is there eternal darkness in the night time sky, what did stars looked like
up close, do people lived on stars and other planets, how did people breathe in
space. These questions would go through my mind as I lay in the grass behind our
apartment, at the top of the hill, in the garden street projects. When you lived in
the garden street projects you had to have a good imagination, not because things
were bad, not in the 70 s, when I was young and didn t know any better, the garden
street projects were the best of times. To go to places that, I couldn t walk, or bike,
I needed a good imagination, so that I could block out all the noise, and all the
things that reminded me I was still here on earth, in the garden street projects.
Every now and then, when I lay, I would see a fiery ball of light moving fast across
the nighttime sky, arching ever so slightly as it took flight in our alien atmosphere.
We called them shooting stars, but I suspected they were the remains of comets, or
asteroids that the Army shot down, foiling the plans of the aliens trying to destroy our
Opec s Growth And Business
Synopsis
OPEC was founded in 1960 with 5 counties and the goals to be a dependable oil
market for themselves, and to stimulate economic growth in other countries.
Leading up to the 1970 s OPEC s growth and business was relatively unnoticed until
an Iranian revolution and Arab oil embargo pushed oil prices to new levels.
Changing consumer opinions about oil and over supply led to a market crash in
1986; but from 1990 through to 2000 prices strengthened from increases in
technology and a more global market. In 2008 the stock market crisis rippled
through all industries and even caused the oil market to suffer. Oil prices then
rebounded and at June 2014 oil prices set a record high. OPEC currently has just
under 40% of the market share and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because so much of Canada s economy is based off of profits from oil production,
the dollar is largely influenced by oil prices. OPEC s cartel based influence over
international oil prices means that they also have a strong influence over the
Canadian economy. A brief period of time, referred to as the honeymoon period ,
occurred when both Canadian businesses and consumers were highly profitable.
All non oil businesses would have felt this gain because their cost of business
would have decreased, and as labour from ex oil workers became more available,
labour would have become cheaper. With the decrease in oil, the price of goods
decreases, and new alternatives can be sought after that was previously too
expensive due to transportation. International trade also increases because the cost
of moving goods decreases. The honeymoon period ends when all citizens and
businesses feel the lower income from oil. This is likely accompanied by a falling
Canadian dollar, which will lead to gains for export companies, but losses for import
companies. Trade agreements also lose their attraction to foreign governments
because a key resource is no longer profitable.
Overview This paper will discuss the current situation of OPEC having an absolute
advantage over oil production, how OPEC s petroleum monopoly affects Canada s
economy and it s effect in oil based job industries. It will discuss how OPEC has a
significant amount of power over the Canadian
Service For Sony Computer Entertainment
To begin this letter, I would first like to congratulate you on your impressive fifteen
years of service for Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), and I have been affected
by your wonderful service to such a prosperous company. With an impressive
background and dedication to a company whose products many people of all ages
have enjoyed, you have indirectly touched countless people throughout time and have
probably caused many youths to go into gamedesign and development, some of
whom may even be your colleagues or co workers. I wish you continued luck and
success. However, there is a point to this letter, and given you are an incredibly busy
man, I shall get to the point of my writing you, and perhaps give insight to the
consumer side and help with continued success. Since the PlayStation 3was
introduced into the market, as well as the competing consoles, downloadable content
has become commonplace among many games to this date and has been the bane, or
joy, of many consumers.
Now, as a businessman, your first responsibility to the company is to ensure success
and to partner with the companies and organize the content for the console. Which, is
any sound business strategy, to earn revenue and get a return on profit (or
investment), on the product that has just been released that took two or more years to
produce. As the president of Sony America, you may not have direct control over the
content the actual gaming companies produce or their decisions for downloadable

multiobjective problem can be viewed as well and if we consider a minimisation
problem for all objectives functions: m functions to optimize and p constraints to
satisfy. The main goal of all optimisation methods is to find an optimal solution of
those problems, and we should precise that a multiobjective problem have many
objectives to optimize these functions are mutually contradictory, so to make a
comparison between solution and an other one, we should describe a relation to
made this appreciation, The Pareto Dominance relation can do this. Considering a
minimisation problem, lets u and v two vectors. A solution is an Pareto optimal
solution if and only if it doesn t exist an other admissible solution x where f(x)
dominate . So a solution of an Multiobjective problem is a set of solutions which
they are not dominated by any other solutions, we call this set the Pareto front 2

Gun Control In School Shootings
Imagine the notion of being defenseless against an individual holding the purpose of
wreaking mass devastation on the students and faculty inside of a school. In 2012,
Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut endured a tragedy that
carries historical significance to the notion of shielding those inside of a classroom in
a worst case situation. When twenty six students had their life taken away during a
school massacre, the thought of permitting teachers to carry handguns during class
drew more consideration than ever. The safety of the students inside of a school
facility may be in jeopardy as manifested in school shootings such as the ones which
transpired at Sandy Hook Elementary School and Virginia Tech, where thirty two
students and teachers lost their lives (History.com). While many feel that presenting
teachers with handguns may prove harmful to safety efforts, inflicting such standards
would provide instructors and students equally with enhanced protection and overall
security.
Imagine being in the family s shoes when hearing through media reports that their
child was killed in a school shooting. If teachers had the option of being equipped
with the handguns, then that child (and the rest in the classroom) would have
survived. How many more times are we going to learn about a deranged gunman
walking into a school loaded and ready to kill? How many more innocent children
need to die before we wake up and give our teachers the prospect to fight back? The
only resolution is to grant our teachers a fighting chance. No shooter is going to
target a school that can protect itself and fight back. Every second counts in a
school shooting. Calling 911 and anticipating for police to arrive isn t good
enough. Spartanburg County South Carolina Sheriff Chuck Wright says, Our form
of justice is not making it. Carry a concealed weapon. That ll fix it (Miller, Fox
News). Then there was Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. who lately
created a nationwide uproar for advising citizens to master how to manage firearms
so they can protect themselves, because he says, simply calling 911 and waiting is
no longer your best option (Handelman Fox 6 Wisconsin). What happens when the
nearest police unit is 10
Discrepancy Model In Special Education
Students with learning disabilities account for nearly half of all students in special
education programs (Wright Wright, 2008). The methods for identifying these
students has historically been the severe discrepancy model. This model identifies
students with learning disabilities through a series of academic and cognitive tests
(Crouse, n.d.). If a student s cognitive abilities are deemed capable of learning, but
their academic performance demonstrates a delay, then the child is identified as
having a learning disability. Unfortunately, with this model it is difficult to identify
students in primary grades because there is not a severe enough discrepancy to
qualify for special educationservices. This model has been coined the wait to fail
model (Donovan Cross, 2002) because students must demonstrate a large enough
delay to receive any special educationhelp. By the time the students are identified, the
gap is extremely hard to close. According to Donovan and Cross (2002), students with
learning disabilities (SLD) that are identified show minimal gains of achievement.
With the reauthorization of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act(IDEA) 2004,
Congress changed the law on how students with learning disabilities can be
identified. IDEA 2004 states when determining whether a child has a specific
learning disability ... a local educational agency shall not be required to take into
consideration whether a child has a severe discrepancy between achievement and
Theme Of The Crying Of Lot 49
The crying of lot 49 is Thomas Pynchon second book, was published in 1965 and
was described by himself as a short story with a gland problem . The basis of the
story is that oedipal mass is an unhappily married woman who is going through her
day to day of her life when out of the blue her ex boyfriend has died and made her the
executor of his will. She then must sort through his enormous assets. On her journey
has tons of fun sometimes hallucinogenic fun along the California coast, but on this
journey, she repeatedly encounters a secret organization that has been around for
centuries called trystero. I have found the the crying of lot 49has a significant amount
of hidden meanings and Such has the symbol of the horn that is supposed to be the
symbol of tristero oedipal keeps encountering represents the miscommunication of
people at the time. There was focal a moment in the book that oedipa finds a
paintning that represents the situation of not only herself but the book. In the
painting there are woment that are locked in a tower and weaving a tapestry and
as the tapestry is leaving the tower it forms the world. So take that image of an
Inaccessible place that is creating the world as we know it and compare it to
another image in the book, a projector in a planetarium. The comparison between
these two images icreates a series of questions that you must think oedipal is

Symbolism In A Rose For Emily And Barn Burning
Although Henry James died when William Faulkner was but a young man, both
authors contributed to literature with great works, using symbolism to play a huge
role in their short stories. In James Daisy Miller , he incorporates symbols to help
characterize the female protagonist of his story. Meanwhile, Faulkner uses
symbolism in several of his stories, including A Rose for Emily and Barn Burning ,
having ordinary objects represent characteristics of his main characters. Daisy
Miller follows a young man who finds himself infatuated with the lovely Miss Daisy
Miller. Though he does his best to impress the young lady, Winterbourne struggles to

Miss Emily is a isolated woman, who lives alone with a servant. She refuses to
accept the modernization of the world, for she refused to let them fasten the metal
numbers above her door and attach a mailbox to it (662). Miss Emily s house is a
traditional home. In fact, it is almost like a historical monument for a town that is
growing more modern. Miss Emily s refusal to add to or alter the house reveals her
mindset that she will not allow for her family home to become like that of the
other houses in her town; in other words, Miss Emily is against modernization.
Furthermore, Miss Emily s father plays a role in her life, even after he passes
away. When he was alive he controlled his daughter, not allowing her to date the
young men that were interested in her; additionally, following his death, Emily still
seems to be influenced by her father: We knew that with nothing left, she would
have to cling to that which had robbed her (662). Miss Emily s father takes away
the possibility of her leaving him. He isolates her from the world, especially young
gentlemen, which leads to her solitary life; moreover, her father represents Miss
Emily s isolation, with his overwhelming control succeeding his death. However,
Miss Emily does find one

This disease does not favor one gender over the other, it effects males and females
equally. Currently, the origin of diabetes is a conundrum. Although, it is understood
that the immune system attacks the beta cells but it is not clear how or why it occurs.
It is hypothesized that T1D maybe hereditary and environmental factors contribute to
the onset (5). Symptoms prevail in individuals whom have the majority of their beta
cells destroyed via a cellular mediated autoimmune response (1). The insulin signaling
cascade is initiated when insulin binds to insulin receptors located on the cell s
surface. The insulin receptor has four subunits: two alpha subunits located on the
outside of the cell and two transmembrane beta subunits (3 4). When insulin binds to
the alpha subunit receptors, it transmits a signal across the plasma membrane and
activates tyrosine residues that are attached to the beta subunits. The activation of the
tyrosine residues causes it to autophosphorolate and then phosphorolate other proteins
that also have tyrosine residues attached to them. These phosphorylated proteins then
move on to trigger cellular responses such as translocation of GLUT4 vesicule to the
cell membrane. The vesicule becomes a transporter to allow glucose to come into the
cell so that it can continue on and be stored as glycogen (3). A beta cell specific
autoimmune process is the beginning of the destruction of the beta cells that produce
insulin.
Baroque Music Research Paper
The baroque era was full of influential composers, who would travel all over
Europe, hear each others music, and be influenced from all over the globe. Though
music was suddenly more global, differences in nations where still audible in the
music (most obviously between France and Italy). One of the era s most famous
composers was Johann Sebastian Bach(1685 1750), a German composer, organist,
harpsichordist, violist and violinist (far left picture below). Born into one of the
greatest musical families of the times, and hailed as a natural genius , Bach
composed over 1,000 compositions in nearly every type of musical form. Though,
in his later years, he faced harsh criticism that his work was outdated (due to a new
Italian style invading Germany as he wrote and prepared some of his most
important pieces), his legacy still lives on strong. Some of his most popular works
include Air on a G String , Double Violin Concerto and the Brandenburg concerto
No. 3 . Another famous composer was the German British composer George
Frederic Handel (1685 1759) middle picture below. Handel composed for every
type of musical genre, though he is most famous for his operas, oratorios, anthems
and organ concertos. He is also credited for creating the English oratorio. Handel
turned blind at old age, but continued to compose. Beethoven thought Handel to be
the greatest of all his predecessors, and once said that I would bare my head and
kneel at his grave . Some of Handles popular music

In this paper, I will be doing just that; I will be analyzing documents about climate
change. As climate change is a controversial topic, there are many sides to this
subject. I will be analyzing science based articles from NASA, and NOAA and
comparing them with the views of scientists, and popular news outlets. What are
climate and climate change? The definition of climate is rarely disputed; according
to NASA, climate is typical or average weather (Dunbar) Climate change, however,
has a different definition depending on where one gets their information. NASA
describes climate change as: range of changes that are happening to our planet.
(Global Climate). However, if one looks to another news outlet, they would get this
definition: Global Warmingis a sham... A sham perpetuated by a network of dirty
government officials, greedy corporations, and bought off scientific organizations
(Scientist Confesses). The difference is in not only information being given, but how
a rhetor presents the information. When NASA is outlining definitions, they are
straight to the point; they have an idea to present, and they present it. This is
drastically different from the Newsmax source. In this source, there is little to no
mention of climate change until page 3 of the article to find what the article is even
about, one must sift through page upon page of imaginative situations and economic

The Success Of The Gettysburg Address
Abraham Lincoln was a great influence not only to this country, but also to other
political leaders. He showed a great example of how just a few words can change
so much about the U.S and how the people of the U.S live. He had many successes
in his presidential years; one of his great successes was the emancipation
proclamation, this document effected how the people of the U.S treated African
Americans as well as give them right to own land and vote. He also wrote and
delivered the Gettysburg Address, this speech gave people much to think about. The
Gettysburg Address also gave many ideas that they soon put into perspective.
The speech, Gettysburg Address, was written in Gettysburg Pennsylvania after the
Gettysburg battle. According to Civil War Can Trust, this battle was between the
union led by George G. Meade and the confederates led by Robert E. Lee. The union
had 93,921 men and the confederates had 71,699; from those there were 51,112
casualties from both sides of the battle field. It was after the war that president
Lincoln went to Pennsylvania to deliver his, now famous, speech the Gettysburg
Address along with other political leaders.
The Gettysburg Address was written by the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. This
speech was written for the public, the speech explains how all men should be equal
and how those who serve our country should not be held as slaves. Abraham Lincoln,
the writer of the Gettysburg Address, grew up in Kentucky where there was no

On the off chance that you haven t done as such some time recently, now may be a

No arriving hours early to remain in line for security and baggage carousel.
Quicker flight time. Removed every one of those irritating delays. Unrivaled solace.

Summary Of The Enigma Of Arrival
Status is a plague to today s society, more specifically, the status that good
appearances portray to the outside world. People focus more on how appealing
something appears to be to others that they often ignore its true value. V.S Naipaul,
a Nobel Laureate born in Trinidad, shares a perspective of how the most fortunate
do not always end up being the happiest people. Happiness is more of a journey; a
goal that must be achieved. In V.S. Naipaul s The Enigma of Arrival , superstructure
is conveyed through the characters and the story s sympathetic tone with the use of
detail, syntax and diction. Naipaul suggests to readers that social classdoes not divide
society, but rather creates a platform In The Enigma of Arrival, detail best represents
the sympathetic tone that the author first directs at himself, having grown up of a
lower social class. Growing up in poverty is common in today s world, although it is
still shocking to people that there are others living poorly in such developed
countries. Through the memory of the protagonist s home life as a child, the
sympathetic tone becomes conspicuous, as he mentions that Those nerves had been
given me as a child in Trinidad partly by our family circumstances: the half ruined or
broken down houses we lived in, our many moves, our general uncertainty (Naipaul
1). The author did not grow up in the most prosperous circumstances, but he did have
his family. They stuck together through the unfortunate circumstances, despite
A Comparison Of Leadership In Henry V And Saint Joan
The Struggle for Leadership In the plays Henry V by Shakespeare and Saint Joan
by George Bernard Shaw, there is a distinct prevalence of how social class
impacted both of their societies. In Henry V , King Henry was an elite member of
his society who was viewed as a hero and a noble leader. Although status can create
an impact on leadership and trust, not all heros were shown to have high social status.
In Saint Joan, Joan was a peasant girl who still, despite her rank in society, was
able to become an impactful leader and women s rights activist. Throughout both of
these plays, two people both had the drive to become significant leaders, despite
their varying social statuses. Along with analyzing the social status of each of the
characters, both also incorporate forms of ethos, pathos, or logos to influence their
audience. Although both of the speeches provide supporting evidence of ethos,
pathos, or logos, Shakespeare is more successful in providing a speech and a strong,
male lead character to inspire and motivate his audience, while Joan of Arclacks the
appeals based on her social status and the impact her gender has in society. In Henry
V, King Henry V delivers an empowering speech, Saint Crispin s Day Speech, which
is argued it is one of the greatest motivational speeches of all... Show more content on

His use of appeals proves this to his men. His sense of ethos provides a sense of
equality and pathos which incorporates an emotional draw to the troops. King
Henry s speech not only empowers, but also is successful in proving to his troops
that they can win the battle. Through this speech, Shakespeare s use of providing a
sense of equality, despite Henry s social status, as well as using emotion to prove
their ability to win the battle, provides clear evidence of how empowering the Saint
Crispin s day speech is in comparison to Saint
Perspective Of Perspective
Perspective is the way that people perceive things in the world around them.
Common influences include the way people grow up and how they live their lives.
Perspectives are always changing, and different events in life can cause them to be
a certain way. The way we build perspective depends on who we are as people and
they are very important. They affect the way we process information and make
decisions about things in everyday life. Another strong influence to perspectiveis
emotionand memory. To what extent do emotion and memory falsify history?
Emotion and memory are not reliable enough in themselves, but they can help us
draw conclusions and form our perspectives. Emotion and memory can taint history

Often, we absorb most the select information that we have access to without realizing
it. As a result, people may remember events different than they happened without
realizing it. It is even common that the memory itself changes the more it surfaces in
our minds. When we remember situations, we are not remembering the event. We are
actually remembering the last time we remembered it, so we will not end up
remembering it the same way. At the same time, our mind changes a memory every
time we think. This could lead to the publishing biased information. Historians must
have to come to a common decision or agreement when documenting history. They
must talk through what they want to document and then decide what to write down.
There are strengths of historians having different perspectives. For example, they
explore the many different sides of something together. There is more information to
sort through, even enough to fill in gaps that others failed to bridge over. Different
sides to a story can help people to understand. There are also weaknesses to historians
having different perspectives. Disagreements can cause confusion and conflict. It
makes it harder to know what the truth is, if everyone seems to have different truths.

Background Of Mission And Lead Up For Failure
Background of Mission and Lead up to Failure
NASA along with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) partnered up and rolled out
to launch a sequence of space mission to probe neighboring planets such as Mercury,
Venus, and Mars. The Mariner was considered as a robotic interplanetary probe to
NASA and all space officials involved with this project. The Mariner was
developed around the time of President John F. Kennedy s administration, which
was in the 1960 s. The United States was in a big race with USSR in the 1960 s and
it was referred to many people in that time as the Space Race . During this time both
countries were racing to build the most elite, sophisticated, and technologically
advanced spacecraft s on the planet. The propose of ... Show more content on

This spacecraft also had solar panels that recharged the fuel battery and to boost
power flow. In the early years of the space program, when the Mariner 1 was
launch, this was very robust, sound, and an advanced piece of machinery. The
reason why NASA and JPL made this spacecraft sophisticated was because a
couple years before 1962 there were two missions that had a stated objective to
conduct a Venus flyby however both rockets failed. The cost of Mariner was $18.5
million dollars, but in today s world it s roughly $135 million.
Reasons why the Mariner 1 failed launched became historic was partially due to a
very avoidable error, which NASA described as a, hyphen in the data editing .
However, days leading up to launch there was speculation that NASA officials were
working under a very tight schedule with a launch window of 45 days, and that gave
little time under such pressure to launch another spacecraft to Venus. Also, since this
mission was extremely technological, there was much attention by newsgroups and
the public, this made the mission very high profile and added to the amount of tense
pressure for launch.
Causes of Failure There was not one concise reason that led to the failure of Mariner

Development of Suspense by Hitchcock in Psycho Essay
Development of Suspense by Hitchcock in Psycho
Psycho, the somewhat infamous film by Alfred Hitchcock was produced in 1961, a
time when the American censors, The Hays Office, still dominated the film industry
with their strict rules and principles. It earned its notoriety by defying the traditional
cinematic convections of that time and pushing the boundaries of what could be
shown in mainstream cinema. The rules implemented by The Hays Office were far
stricter than they are today, and Hitchcock uses all available means to reach and go
slightly beyond the set limit. Using clever and different camera angles, he implies
things that are not shown. He proves that innuendoes can portray the ... Show more

In fact, a lot of horror films today still leave their leading ladies intact by the end of
the film, e.g. Scream. Whether it is actually Marion or her sister, who is the heroine,
can then be debatable.
Abogast, the private detective who is hired to find Marion, but more importantly,
find the stolen $40,000, is also killed very soon after Marion. Once again, the
audience gets surprised as it is usually the detective who solves the mystery and
presents it to the audience at the end of the film. In this case however, Abogast is
merely a stepping stone for Sam, Marion s boyfriend and Lila, Marion s sister. He
does the majority of the work and leaves enough clues for Lila and Sam to continue
his job.
The early deaths of the main characters shocked the audience enough to leave them
mystified and at the edge of their seats for the remainder of the film. Hitchcock had
succeeded in creating suspense in his film using a new and different convention that
had never been tried before.
The early deaths concept wasn t the only technique Hitchcock used to develop the
suspense in Psycho . A more common but effective technique is also used; music. Not
just any music either, but relevant music. It is general knowledge that music can
psychologically influence people s thoughts and emotions.

what is a Router, why we need Routers, what is the importance of a Router. We also

how to configure a Router; the different types of Routing protocols and most
importantly what, when and how to use those protocols in the field. Finally I will

The most common of the two link state protocols is OSPF (Open Shortest Path
First) it is widely used throughout the field (#1) due to it being a non proprietor
protocol as well as its ability to interface with other networks. With OSPF you can
group router into small areas and link them through a back bone when this is done
you create the following a back bone router within the area of the back bone there
is an area border router (ABR), ABR must have one interface in each area meaning
the back bone and the area trying to link to the back bone, OSPF can also connect
to multiple Autonomous System. When configuring OSPF you must assign a
process number in all router within that group must use that same number, the
number can range for 1 to 65,535 you can also have more than one each one will
maintain its own separate topology table as well as manage it independently. There
is also distance vectors RIP vs. 1 and 2 (Routing Information Protocol) these work
well on small networks, IGRP (Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) and EIGRP (is
the enhanced version of IGRP). The thing about these two meaning IGRP and
EIGRP is that they are proprietary protocols so they only work

Type 2 diabetes report: Samantha Johnstone
Does obesity contribute to a higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes
Diabetes is the fastest and largest growing health issue in New Zealand. Diabetes is a
disease that has reached epidemic proportions internationally and within the New
Zealand community. It is the leading cause of blindness, kidney failure and lower
limb amputations. There are two main types of diabetes: type 1 (insulin dependent
diabetes mellitus) and type 2 (adult onset diabetes mellitus). An international study
carried out by a team of researchers working with the World Health Organisation
had found that New Zealand has one of the highest rates of diabetes. There is over
240,000 people in New Zealand who have been diagnosed with diabetes, most
having type 2, and the amount on both types is rising. If someone who has
diabetes cannot keep their glucose levels in an appropriate range, they can develop
a number of long term health problems including damaged vessels leading to
kidney failure, blindness, and damage of the nervous system. Type 2 diabetes is an
issue in my community as it can be life threatening. It is a crucial issue for New
Zealand, because it has such negative impact on New Zealand s society, including
creating issues with money in New Zealand. In 2008 there was a study about the
health care costs for New Zealanders with Type 2 Diabetes. It was around $540
million and it is predicted that these costs will increase to $1.78 billion by 2021. These

An act from which an injury results as a natural, direct, uninterrupted consequence
and without which the injury would not have occurred. Proximate cause would be
the primary cause of an injury. It is not necessarily the closest cause in time or space
nor the first event that sets in motion a sequence of events leading to an injury.
Proximate cause produces particular, foreseeable consequences without the
intervention of any independent or unforeseeable cause. It is also known as legal

The Purpose of Advertising Essay
The Purpose of Advertising
The purpose of advertising is to familiarise the public with a certain brand or
product. Companies spend millions of pounds a year on advertising so that when
the public are searching for a product or service a certain brand is recognised and, as
a result, their product or service is chosen.
Companies need to ensure that their money is spent wisely. They do this by
completing extensive market and physcological research. Members of the public
from a company s target group or audience are chosen to express their views about
the advertisment before it is published or aired.
Media can include television, cinema and radio. This is the communications aspect of

This is illustrated in the first advertisment, for Chanel No.5 perfume.
The classic, sophisticated design immediately sets the tone for the advert and for the
type of audience it has been aimed at.
Chanel is an icon of the 21st century and its image needs to be preserved by attracting
new customers.
The modern, yet timeless layout of the promotion emphasises on this, but the advert
is traditional enough to appeal to older audiences. This shows that although Chanel
wish to attract a newer audience, they also desire to keep their traditional customers
loyal to the marque, hence the non controversial advertisment.
The advert itself has remained almost unchanged for the last forty years, as Chanel
wish to preserve their image. However, to appeal to successive generations the visual
treatment has recieved subtle changes, such as the inclusion of a more modern
looking colour scheme.
The advert instantly grabs the reader with its striking, simplistic design. The contrast
between the two main colours adds to the classic meets modern feel that Chanel were
aiming for.
Chanel is a name dating back to the 1930 s. Over the years, it has been associated
with the world of fashion, style and elegent living throughout the world.

many people who prefer PC; there are also many differences between the two. The
Mac computer is the only in the world that can run all the major operating systems,

covers many lines of personal computers that Apple Inc. develops, designs, and
markets, while PC is usually a computer that runs on the Windows operating system.
Mac is more stable than Windows is. The reasoning in this is because Mac produces

necessarily need to spend the big bucks on a Mac. There are plenty of options for
PCs that are so much more affordable. The most visible difference between PC and
Mac is the number of configurations on the market from each company. Apple
provides five different computer lines: the Mac mini, iMac, the Macbook Air, the
Macbook Pro, and Mac Pro. Apple has 18 total unique computers if the
configurations of each of the models are counted alone. Apple doesn t believe this

many sizes and shapes compared to Mac. There are 11 prominent brands of
Windows computers, which are: Compaq, Acer, Dell, Asus, Lenovo, Gateway,
Toshiba, HP, Samsung, eMachines and Sony. Each of these brands offers countless
configurations of laptop and desktop models. This appeals to a vast number of
consumers since the larger selection is more beneficial in finding the computer that
fits their precise needs. Software in the two is also a difference. Mac has a shortage

The Sexual Aspect Of American Beauty
A minority of critics and movie analysts have attempted to pick at the sexual aspect
of American Beauty in hopes of uncovering a hidden meaning instead they are simply
over reaching. American Beauty is a satire that aims to shed some much needed light
on the hidden world that lives in the American suburban setting. Successfully
accomplished by Mendes through the exposure of certain topics and sexuality
undoubtably being one of them. Ricky s father Colonel Frank Fitts a military man
who brings his military world of discipline and order to the management of his family
is ironically a homophobe. The ironyis displayed at the last scene of the movie where
its revealed that the colonel himself is a homosexual man when he kisses Lester.
Likewise Lester and Jane s friend Angela s relationship is created upon aesthetic
desire from both parties; the sexual half part of the relationship never comes to life
but the relationship stirs much controversy nonetheless. Both examples provide room
for the minority argument although these examples only play a part in the mocking
and exposure of the hidden scandals that occur within the suburban setting and
neither make it to the final message that Mendes want his viewers to walk away with.
Critics believe these sexual interactions and relationships should be mentioned and
stamped with a negative connotation especially that of Lester and Angela since Only
2 of the 492 critics used the word pedophilia in their assessments of American Beauty
Han Empire Vs Roman Empire Essay
Between 400 and 600 CE, the Han and Roman empire empire fell. During the Han
Empire of China, the silk roads were opened, allowing major cultural exchange and
economic growth. The Han empire also grew within iron metallurgy, silk textiles,
and paper. The Roman Empire, surrounding the Mediterranean ocean, was run on a
republic, traded with other areas in the mediterranean area for a bountiful
economy, and saw the development of early christianity. The causes for which they
fell were similar in that they all experienced major epidemics, poor leadership, and
land distribution issues. The first reason for the fall included widespread
epidemics. Smallpox, measles, and the bubonic plague spread rapidly in both
empires, due to lack of medical knowledge and new interactions between people of
different areas, carrying different diseases. The outbreak of diseases claimed the
lives of a large portion of both empires. With the population down, trade decreased
and their economies suffered alongside the ill. With less money, the empires started

Other innovations included an optical disk drive instead of floppy disks, and a

reactions, many critics were convinced that Steve Jobs had brought another
revolutionary product to American consumers. Despite the warm reception, however,
the NeXT machine never caught on. It was too costly, had a black and white screen,
and couldn t be linked to other computers or run common software. So therefore it

NeXT was not, however, the end of Steve Jobs. (Change Slide) In 1986, Jobs paid
filmmaker George Lucas $10 million for a small firm called Pixar that specialized

The Republic, By Plato
The Republic, Written by Plato deals with the many definitions/opinions of what
justice really means. Socrates truly examines what he thinks the true value behind the

what each person brings to the table help them figure out what justicemeans. Justice
in the eye of Socrates is not a simple answer or definition but there are many different

Cephalus gets the conversation started when asked by Socrates what he considers

by speaking from his experience saying when a man has been close to death, and
fears he starts to see the world differently, clearer. The wrongs he has done in his
life start to haunt him and weight a heavy burden in his mind. He then starts off by
saying Hope gets him through his dark times and it cherishes the soul of those who
live in justice and holiness. (6). What is justice would immediately be the next
question that would stomp not only Cephalus but the other men as well and yet

What Are The Distinguishing Factors Of New Imperialism
1. The distinguishing factors of new imperialism from the earlier forms of European
expansion was that now the Europeans would penetrate the lands that they wanted to
conquer rather than just setting up a trading post on the coast like they previously
would have done. Unlike old imperialism, they Europeans would use their colonies
for political gains by setting up governments and protectorates in the areas that they
imperialized. Rather than just taking advantage of the trading post, they would
exploit the colonies and their people, unlike previously done before. They no longer
cared about cooperating with the previously existing governments in the land that
they would imperialize because they planned to set up their own governments there.
Europeans nations were now looking to expand their empires by acquiring these
territories, unlike before, distinguishing new imperialism from earlier forms of
expansion.
2. The Europeans found ways to open up trade with China and Japan in spite of
opposition in each country by forcing them with war or with the threat of war. In

The factors that prompted the Berlin Conference were King Leopold II of Belgium s
actions in central Africa of signing unfair treaties with African chiefs and planting
the Belgium flag. He did this for his own personal gain, not even for his gain of his

the chief of the Teke tribe to establish a protectorate. This threatened the balance of
powers and kicked off the African fever, so to prevent further complications and to
set basic rules, the Berlin Conference was called. The results were that no imperial
power was allowed to claim a territory in Africa unless it was really in control of the
territory and that the slave trade in Africa was stopped. A country had to exert

Rape Police Authority And Power
The finding that young black men are twenty one times as likely as their white peers
to be killed by police is drawn from reports filed for the years 2010 to 2012, the three
most recent years for which FBU numbers are available (Deadly Force). Looking at
this report from ProPublica, lethal weapons have been used by policeupon black men
throughout the time, and the numbers have been increasing every upcoming years.
Ferguson is one of the example about abusing police authority and power. There
are stereotypes exists in our society that black men are more likely involve in
crime, such as robbery, murder, rape and so forth; which leads to an conflict
between different races or blacks and white. Ferguson, an unarmed black teenager
Michael Brown has been killed by white police officer. Brown was a suspect in a

The Hero, Scapegoat, And Innocent Youth Archetypes In
Lord...
Although Ralph shows good leadership skills, he also has weaknesses like
everyone else. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Ralph portrays
the Hero, Scapegoat, and Innocent Youth Archetypes. Ralph demonstrates the Hero
Archetype when he becomes chief, when he helps build shelters to sleep in, when
he stood up to Jack, when he went to look for the beast, and lastly when he tried to
help Piggy get his specs back. Ralph also demonstrates the Scapegoat Archetype
when he was attacked, when he was hiding from the savages, when he was seen by
a savage and got frightened, and when he realized he lost his innocence. Ralph s
innocent youth is also shown when Ralph squirted water at Piggy, when he imagined
the group being rescued, and when he asked a question he already knew the answer to.
Ralph s leadership and help he offers to everyone in the group clearly shows his
connection to the Hero Archetype. Ralph wanting to be chief and being chosen to
be chief by the group, Who wants me? Every hand outside the choir...was raised
immediately... Ralph counted. I m chief then. (Golding 19). This shows Ralph s
heroism because everyone voted for him to be chief and he wanted to take that
leadership role to guide the group. Ralph helped the group build shelters and he
built the most, We all built the first one, four of us the second, and me n Simon
built the last one... (Golding 85). This shows how Ralph is a hero because he is
doing his fair share of work and more, for the benefit of others. When Ralph stood
up to Jack because Jack was going against Ralph and challenging his position as
leader. Ralph said to him, Why do you hate me? (Golding 129). This shows Ralphs
heroism because he chose to show bravery rather than coware like a hero would.
When the group was worried about the beast and Ralph was reassuring them and
offered to go look for the beast. The group was talking about the beast and Ralph
said, We ll go and look. (Golding 133). This shows how Ralph connects to heroism
because he made a selfless act that would put his life at risk for the sake of others.
When Jack took Piggy s specs and Ralph tried to help Piggy get them back. Ralph
said to Jack, ...You ve got to give them back. (Golding 195).

That is why the soldier s had changed their behavior according to Da Costa. These
are also considered some of the symptoms in PTSD today. Another name that
people are familiar with came about during World War I, and that was shellshock.
This battle was fought with high air pressure artillery that exploded when fired.
The reason they called it this is because they thought that when the soldier s had
been exposed to the shells exploding it cause them to have a concussion from the
brain being rattled inside of the skull and that is what caused their behaviors and
symptoms. Then came World War II .A new name called combat fatigue or combat
exhaustion. The reason for that is because after the first war they screened may
people so the weaker ones would not pass and would not be sent out to fight. Even
though they did this the soldier s still came back with severe behavior and mental
issues and would be discharged from the service. It was not until after the Korean
War and the start of the Vietnam War that Psychiatrists started looking at the
behaviors and issues that surrounded them. The term PTSD did not show up until the
80 s after the Vietnam War. The American Psychiatric Association who writes the
DSM which stands for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders added
this disorder to the manual to help professionals understand it and how to treat the
individual that was seeking help. This disorder was not discovered by one person it is
Alfred W. Crosby s Article The Columbian Voyages, The...
In his article The Columbian Voyages, the Columbian Exchange, and Their Historians
, Alfred W. Crosby seems to think that much of the Columbian voyages and what
came out of them was detrimental to many cultures, most of all the Native
Americans. Crosby brings up many institutions and ideologies to re enforce his
opinion, such as the slave trade and the conquest of many Native Americancultures.
One of the major effects of the Columbian exchangewas the decimation of the Native
American population. Crosby attributes this to many factors, the conquest of the
Europeans, the cultural vacuum created by European attempts to Christianize the
Amerindians, and the introduction of new and lethal micro organisms into the
ecosystem. More commonly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This in turn would lead to more consumption at the top of the food chain, eliminating
the predators to creatures at the lower end of the food chain. This would cause their
numbers to rise, which would lead to irreparable damage to the ever fragile
ecosystem.
Another reason that disease is needed was defined by Thomas Malthus. His concept
is called the Malthusian Law, which states that the population will increase
geometrically while the food supply will increase arithmetically. This, simply put,
means that the population will grow enormously faster than the food supply will.
Predictably, this leads to starvation and death. Disease, as a natural check, prevents
this from happening. As the population is checked, the supply of food can keep up
with the growth of population, keeping the ecosystem balanced. If disease was not a
prevalent factor to check the growth of population, then the Malthusian Law certainly
would be.
However, checking the growth of population is not the only reason the disease is
needed. Exposure to viruses can also help future generations of humans live longer
and more fruitful lives. Strange as it may sound, being exposed to a particular virus
can help one s children become better equipped to deal with it. This because human
beings, as all living things, are constantly evolving. As the world around them
changes, the physiology of the human changes as well. Each generation is
Analyzing The Cash Flow Statement
Analysing the cash flow statement would be a great place to first look when initially
analysing a company. It is difficult for a company to manipulate the cash flow
statements resulting in a honourable place to find the actual numbers. The cash flow
statement is indicative of how well the company can convert net income into cash; it
also helps to determine if a company is strong or weak. Panera realizes a positive net
cash flowand is a strong company from their statements. To receive a deeper
analysis, the three sections of the cash flow statements, cash flows from
operations, cash flow from investing and cash flow from financing should be
dissected. In the first section of cash flows from operations (CFO), Panera has had
a strong and positive growth in cash flow from their operations from 2010 13 with
a slight drop in 2104 due to the fact their net income decreased in 2014. During all
five years, Panera stands in a upright position as their CFO is greater than net
income. A ratio can be computed to see how high the quality of net income is by
adding net income with deprecation dividing by the CFO shows that outside of
2010, net income proves to be of high quality. From the years 2011 2014 this ratio
hovers around 90%, while in 2010 this ratio falters to 75% due to a high level of
cash generated in accrued expenses. Although the net income remained high quality
in 2014 it is concerning that figured dropped due to an increase in expenses.

Pumpkin Pie Vs Traditional Baking
The fall season is fast approaching, its time to whip out your home cooked meals
and treats for the kids. You go for the classic pumpkin pie just like grandma s
homemade recipe. However, what happens when this simple recipe take a turn for

When prepared correctly, it generates a nostalgic feel for adults who have a sweet
tooth and do not prefer eating Halloween candy. Producing a premium pumpkin pie
includes gathering all natural ingredients, using correct mixing techniques, slowly
cooking it a heated oven, creating an aroma of sweet thrills that passes through the
nose, and adding TLC (Tender, Love, and Care). A crunchy golden graham cracker
crust surrounding a glossy marigold colored pie, and a comforting fragrance of
cinnamon and ginger creates a homey atmosphere. Pumpkin pies should be moist

The Effect Of A Light Ray Reflecting
This lab is made up of four different parts. In the first part we will examine the
effects of a light ray reflecting at different angles of incident from a convex, flat,
and convex mirror. In the second part a light ray will be refracted through a
rhombus prism at different angles of incidence. We will measure the angles using a
protractor. For the third experiment we will examine the indices of colors as light is
refracted through the rhombus. Lastly, we will use polar lens to examine Brewster s
angleand polarization.
THEORY
PART A: REFLECTION
When a light ray hits a point on a plane mirror surface (called the incidence ray), it
bounces off that same point and thus changes the course in which it is traveling. An
angle of incidence can be obtained by measuring the angle between the ray of
incidence and a line normal to the surface of the mirror. The angle of the reflected
ray can also be obtained in the same way by measuring the angle between the
reflected ray and the line normal to the surface. Measuring the two angles we can see
that they are the same angle thus confirming the law of reflection: О r=О i.Eq.1
PART B: REFRACTION
Refraction is caused when a ray of light travels through different mediums. When the
light crosses through the material it causes the light to bend or refract because the
wave does not enter the medium at
How Is Beowulf An Epic Hero
Beowulf was an epic poem that included the character Beowulf, a great soldier who
became an even greater king. Beowulf slayed great Pagan creatures such as the
Grendel and the Dragon of the Tower. Beowulf even reigned as Geatland s ring
giver for a whole fifty winters without being besieged by an opposing force. Some
people dispute that Beowulfis not actual epic hero, despite all of the hard, cold
evidence that states otherwise. A classical epic has traits that designate whether or
not the hero is an epic hero. Beowulf is considered an epic hero within the story
because of these heroic characteristics that he displays: being a figure of legend,
possessing supernatural strength and abilities, and having the assisstance of gods in
his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the author conveyed, Alone shall fight for me, stuggle for life
/ Against the monster. God must decide / Who will be given to death s cold grip.
(252 254). In this extract, Beowulf is stating how God shall decide who shall be
victorious in his battle versus Grendel. This is indicating that God shall side with
good instead of siding with the evil, Pagan Grendel. Additionally, Beowulf recited,
I thank / Our Father in Heaven, Ruler of the Earth / For all of this, that His grace
has given me, / Allowed me to bring to my people while breath / Still came to my
lips. I sold my life / For this treasure, and I sold it well. (1017 1022). In this
instance, Beowulf is thanking God for assisting him through his duels with
Paganistic creatures. He thanks God for allowing him to give his fame to Geatland
and for giving him the ability to protect Geatland. This is a perfect example of a
god s assistance through the protagonist s story. This shows, again, how Beowulf is
an epic hero because of the god s aid in his
Anaerobics-Personal Narrative
During my junior year of college I had this girlfriend, Julie. Julie was an aerobics
enthusiast and had this hot little body. Her tits weren t huge, but provided a nice
handful. Her tight ass and toned legs got attention everywhere she went. However
it was her hair and face that really completed the package. She had straight brunette
hair that went down to the middle of her back. Her face was a bit small, which
made her medium sized lips look big and luscious and her eyes real expressive. I
swear that a single glance from those eyes would render most men speechless. The
funny thing is that I don t think that Julie realized how hot she looked. Socially, she
palled around with everyone. She didn t seem to realize that being friendly with guys

Eduardo Quintana Case
Abstract
This research paper is going to focus mainly in the process followed by Officer
Bird during a traffic violation that led to the arrest of the suspect named Alejandro
Quintana. The analysis of the two sides of the coin, the officer and the suspect taken
into custody is of main interest in this case. There are a variety of steps to be
followed prior to an arrest. The officer/investigator should be responsible for any
action taken towards an individual who is about to or being processed. In the
particular case of Alejandro Quintana, officer Bird executed the arrest of a suspect
that clearly was suspicious utilizing probable cause and plain view search in order to
arrest him and seize the evidence. Mr. Quintana s Fourth Amendment right... Show

Bird could have not searched the trunk of Mr. Quintana s car even if she thought he
was hiding something from the law. According to Swanson et, al. (2014), the
Supreme Court ruled I the 1981 case New York v. Belton that when a policeofficer
makes a lawful custodial arrest of the occupant of an automobile, the officer may
search the vehicle s passenger compartment as a contemporaneous incident of
arrest...The right to search includes any open or closed containers found in the
passenger compartment...It does not include the trunk (Swanson et, al. 2014),
p.30). The arrest of Mr. Quintana gives the officer the right to search the passenger
s side but not the car s trunk. Officer Bird couldn t be able to legally search Mr.
Quintana s car trunk without and issued search warrant on the motor vehicle s
trunk. According to (Decker, 1999), The purpose of a warrant is to allow a neutral
judicial officer to assess whether the police have probable cause to make an arrest
or conduct a search (Decker, 1999, para.2). This one reason provides an even field
for the suspect and the police officer, giving the judge issuing the warrant the decision
making process of whether or not permitting the prosecution of the individual who
can be innocent by an officer unlawfully
Ritzer s The Mcdonaldization Of Society
Since its release in the year 1993, The McDonaldization of Society , has gone
through various revisions and republications. Its on the context of the observations
made by Ritzer, that the argument of the entire process of McDonaldization finds its
place; which states that the concepts and principles followed by fast foodrestaurant
chains, are rapidly taking over majority of the sectors in the American economy, and
may dominate over the rest of the world (Ritzer, 2004, pg1).
Of the various impacts that this methodology may have had, one of them is that it
sees the revolution in the business principles, and has evolved the consumer s
experience in terms of production and consumption. Ritzer s ideology of
McDonaldization, again, is based off
The New York World s Fair Corporation
What is average? In the 1930 s, the New York World s Fair Corporation conducted
a competition across America to answer a very similar question. They wanted to
define what the average American family was. The winners? A family by the name
of the Leathers, who lived in Texas. They were white, able bodied, with two parents,
two children, and the breadmaker of the house was a man. Other finalists in the
competition paralleled the Leathers in almost every regard. When using this contest
as a foundation for the definition of average, it shows how average is not diverse and
rather exclusive. The contest completely disregarded the diverse people who make
America the melting pot of the world. This is one of many themes that American

Throughout the novella, Crooks is shown to be treated horrendously. The only reason
he is treated in such a way, is due to the color of his skin. For instance, Crooks is
regularly not allowed in the bunkhouse, however, one time he is. It was during
Christmas, and the men had been given a bottle of whiskey. They became drunk
and it is at this point that Crooks is attacked. Steinbeck writes, They let [Crooks]
come in that night. Little skinner [by the] name of Smitty took after [him]...The
guys wouldn t let him use his feet. If he coulda used his feet, Smitty says he would
have killed [Crooks] (20). There is no logical reason for Smitty to be provoked into
harming Crooks. Crooks is at the bottom of the social ladder and physically
disabled. He possesses nothing for Smitty to be jealous of, like a girl, money, or
property, yet Smitty still harms him. This emphasizes how Smitty sees Crooks as
nothing better than a punching bag; something easily replaceable and of little to no
value. Not only this, but Smitty says he has no regrets for attacking Crooks. In
fact, Smitty confessing, [I] would have killed [him] (20), displays pride in the act of
almost killing another person. This pride is similar to that of a hunter killing an
animal. Even more frightening, this is not an isolated incident. Later, Crooks is
threatened again, when Curley s wife says, Well, you keep your place then [ n

  • 2. Abortion In Beowulf I sent a message to Tristan at Hargreaves and Thomas on Whitcomb Street, he managed to say in a wobbly voice. Just imagine, our grandson Sean would have graduated this year from Oxford University law school. Unfortunately, his diligence at always following the World Governing Body s initiatives got the better of him on this occasion since he was amongst the first to receive the Stinguard viral vector in England. As a result, Sean died nearly a week ago along with many other students who also heeded the call to get the viral vector as soon as possible. However, fortunately, Tristan and the rest of the family are not at risk since they never found enough time to get the viral vector. They are alive only by serendipity. Tristan kept crying about the end of the continuous line of succession at the Hargreaves and Thomas law firm until I told him that was the least of our worries. Of course, Sean was such a bright lad with his whole life ahead of him, but Stinguard finished him off. Is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Bob and Betina Pagett never fully recovered from the sudden loss of their son and daughter. Miraculously, their young fifteen year old granddaughter, Sophia, narrowly escaped from the Stinguard viral vector because she had stayed home sick the entire week that her school was dispensing it. Similarly, Alfonso s paternal uncle and maternal aunt had succumbed to the Stingaurd viral vector. In contrast, Linda and Giuseppe Cavacecci rejoiced in all their blessings since their three children had come through unscathed. Fortunately, Francesca s son had also dodged the viral vector. Many others, such as the Ellisons, no longer kept up with their extended families on Earth. However, a large segment of the population on Gnaritus, including Surina and Stefan, had no kin left to worry about on

King Conceptual System Theory An Overview of the Conservation Model and the Conceptual System Theory Everything in life has a purpose for their existence, and each human being is valued for their strength, knowledge, power but a lack of capability for interacting with their surroundings can bring many obstacles in their way in other for the meaningful and desirable goals to be reached. King s Theory of GoalAttainment bring a great concentration on the accomplishments of certain life goals and this can only happen if the nurse and the patient has the capacity to communicate and work together, and only then these life goals can be achieved (George, 2011). Levine s model encourages the use of adaptation and maintains integrity, energy through the process of conservation. This is can be done with the help of nursing care and nursing involvements. With encouraging conservation, a nurse can assist in promoting the person s well being (George, 2011). Kings Conceptual System Theory King had many believe based on his Conceptual System Theory, he believes that each person views and interprets the world as an entire being in making transactions with individuals and things in their surroundings. He also believes that the exchange or interaction represents a life situation in which the interpreter and what is being interpreted unexpectedly experiences and in which the individual enters the situation as a dynamic partaker and is individually changed in the process of these
  • 4. The Paradox From Zeno And Mctaggart Essay In this paper I will be discussing the concept of the paradox, examples from Zeno and McTaggart, and how modern science has potential solved the paradox put forth by McTaggart. Both of these paradoxes have a enormous repercussion on how objective fact about the world can be understood. I claim that McTaggart s theory of timecan be solved by modern physicsas Einstein s theory of relativity makes time a relative factor in how time is understood. Before discussing the idea of paradoxes, I will first describe what a paradox is. A paradox, strictly speaking, is when a theory with logical premises leads to the creation of two logical, but contradictory, conclusion. This definition of paradox works, but is very limited in scope of what we can classify as a paradox. Thus modifying the definition of a paradox to mean an argument that leads to wildly different conclusion... . Using this understanding of paradox, I will give a famous example of a paradox thought up by the Greek philosopher Zeno. I will now discuss Zeno s paradox of motion. Zeno argues that motion does not exist through this argument: 1) there is an object at point A that is moving to a point B; 2) in order to reach point B, the object must pass the halfway point of points A and B; 3) we continue halving the remain distance and point B, all the way up to infinity; 4) this means that the object is taking an infinite distance to cross, and therefore, motion cannot exist, as an object cannot move an infinite

I would go down to the old railroad depot walk in to the bar restaurant, wait my turn, then I would drop $5.00 in quarters. One after another, I would lose, quarter and fighter ship, until they were all gone. Side note my little brother was better at this game than me, he was even better at Space Invaders . When you lived in the garden street projects you had to have a good imagination, not because things were bad, not in the 70 s, when I was young and didn t know any better, the garden street projects were the best of times. • 6. Opec s Growth And Business Synopsis OPEC was founded in 1960 with 5 counties and the goals to be a dependable oil market for themselves, and to stimulate economic growth in other countries. Leading up to the 1970 s OPEC s growth and business was relatively unnoticed until an Iranian revolution and Arab oil embargo pushed oil prices to new levels. Changing consumer opinions about oil and over supply led to a market crash in 1986; but from 1990 through to 2000 prices strengthened from increases in technology and a more global market. In 2008 the stock market crisis rippled through all industries and even caused the oil market to suffer. Oil prices then rebounded and at June 2014 oil prices set a record high. OPEC currently has just under 40% of the market share and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because so much of Canada s economy is based off of profits from oil production, the dollar is largely influenced by oil prices. OPEC s cartel based influence over international oil prices means that they also have a strong influence over the Canadian economy. A brief period of time, referred to as the honeymoon period , occurred when both Canadian businesses and consumers were highly profitable. All non oil businesses would have felt this gain because their cost of business would have decreased, and as labour from ex oil workers became more available, labour would have become cheaper. With the decrease in oil, the price of goods decreases, and new alternatives can be sought after that was previously too expensive due to transportation. International trade also increases because the cost of moving goods decreases. The honeymoon period ends when all citizens and businesses feel the lower income from oil. This is likely accompanied by a falling Canadian dollar, which will lead to gains for export companies, but losses for import companies. Trade agreements also lose their attraction to foreign governments because a key resource is no longer profitable. Overview This paper will discuss the current situation of OPEC having an absolute advantage over oil production, how OPEC s petroleum monopoly affects Canada s economy and it s effect in oil based job industries. It will discuss how OPEC has a significant amount of power over the Canadian

  • 9. Gun Control In School Shootings Imagine the notion of being defenseless against an individual holding the purpose of wreaking mass devastation on the students and faculty inside of a school. In 2012, Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut endured a tragedy that carries historical significance to the notion of shielding those inside of a classroom in a worst case situation. When twenty six students had their life taken away during a school massacre, the thought of permitting teachers to carry handguns during class drew more consideration than ever. The safety of the students inside of a school facility may be in jeopardy as manifested in school shootings such as the ones which transpired at Sandy Hook Elementary School and Virginia Tech, where thirty two students and teachers lost their lives (History.com). While many feel that presenting teachers with handguns may prove harmful to safety efforts, inflicting such standards would provide instructors and students equally with enhanced protection and overall security. Imagine being in the family s shoes when hearing through media reports that their child was killed in a school shooting. If teachers had the option of being equipped with the handguns, then that child (and the rest in the classroom) would have survived. How many more times are we going to learn about a deranged gunman walking into a school loaded and ready to kill? How many more innocent children need to die before we wake up and give our teachers the prospect to fight back? The only resolution is to grant our teachers a fighting chance. No shooter is going to target a school that can protect itself and fight back. Every second counts in a school shooting. Calling 911 and anticipating for police to arrive isn t good enough. Spartanburg County South Carolina Sheriff Chuck Wright says, Our form of justice is not making it. Carry a concealed weapon. That ll fix it (Miller, Fox News). Then there was Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. who lately created a nationwide uproar for advising citizens to master how to manage firearms so they can protect themselves, because he says, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option (Handelman Fox 6 Wisconsin). • 10. Discrepancy Model In Special Education Students with learning disabilities account for nearly half of all students in special education programs (Wright Wright, 2008). The methods for identifying these students has historically been the severe discrepancy model. This model identifies students with learning disabilities through a series of academic and cognitive tests (Crouse, n.d.). If a student s cognitive abilities are deemed capable of learning, but their academic performance demonstrates a delay, then the child is identified as having a learning disability. Unfortunately, with this model it is difficult to identify students in primary grades because there is not a severe enough discrepancy to qualify for special educationservices. This model has been coined the wait to fail model (Donovan Cross, 2002) because students must demonstrate a large enough delay to receive any special educationhelp. By the time the students are identified, the gap is extremely hard to close. According to Donovan and Cross (2002), students with learning disabilities (SLD) that are identified show minimal gains of achievement. With the reauthorization of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act(IDEA) 2004, Congress changed the law on how students with learning disabilities can be identified. IDEA 2004 states when determining whether a child has a specific learning disability ... a local educational agency shall not be required to take into consideration whether a child has a severe discrepancy between achievement and

This disease does not favor one gender over the other, it effects males and females equally. Currently, the origin of diabetes is a conundrum. Although, it is understood that the immune system attacks the beta cells but it is not clear how or why it occurs. It is hypothesized that T1D maybe hereditary and environmental factors contribute to the onset (5). Symptoms prevail in individuals whom have the majority of their beta cells destroyed via a cellular mediated autoimmune response (1). The insulin signaling cascade is initiated when insulin binds to insulin receptors located on the cell s surface. The insulin receptor has four subunits: two alpha subunits located on the outside of the cell and two transmembrane beta subunits (3 4). When insulin binds to the alpha subunit receptors, it transmits a signal across the plasma membrane and activates tyrosine residues that are attached to the beta subunits. The activation of the tyrosine residues causes it to autophosphorolate and then phosphorolate other proteins that also have tyrosine residues attached to them. These phosphorylated proteins then move on to trigger cellular responses such as translocation of GLUT4 vesicule to the cell membrane. The vesicule becomes a transporter to allow glucose to come into the cell so that it can continue on and be stored as glycogen (3). A beta cell specific autoimmune process is the beginning of the destruction of the beta cells that produce insulin.
  • 15. Baroque Music Research Paper The baroque era was full of influential composers, who would travel all over Europe, hear each others music, and be influenced from all over the globe. Though music was suddenly more global, differences in nations where still audible in the music (most obviously between France and Italy). One of the era s most famous composers was Johann Sebastian Bach(1685 1750), a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, violist and violinist (far left picture below). Born into one of the greatest musical families of the times, and hailed as a natural genius , Bach composed over 1,000 compositions in nearly every type of musical form. Though, in his later years, he faced harsh criticism that his work was outdated (due to a new Italian style invading Germany as he wrote and prepared some of his most important pieces), his legacy still lives on strong. Some of his most popular works include Air on a G String , Double Violin Concerto and the Brandenburg concerto No. 3 . Another famous composer was the German British composer George Frederic Handel (1685 1759) middle picture below. Handel composed for every type of musical genre, though he is most famous for his operas, oratorios, anthems and organ concertos. He is also credited for creating the English oratorio. Handel turned blind at old age, but continued to compose. Beethoven thought Handel to be the greatest of all his predecessors, and once said that I would bare my head and kneel at his grave . He showed a great example of how just a few words can change so much about the U.S and how the people of the U.S live. He had many successes in his presidential years; one of his great successes was the emancipation proclamation, this document effected how the people of the U.S treated African Americans as well as give them right to own land and vote. He also wrote and delivered the Gettysburg Address, this speech gave people much to think about. The Gettysburg Address also gave many ideas that they soon put into perspective. With fuel costs taking off, business bearers have been curtailing flights year over year for as far back as couple of years. Trimming courses, decreasing the recurrence of flights and changing to littler planes are only a couple of the measures aircrafts are taking to trim expenses with expectations of reinforcing the main issue. People focus more on how appealing something appears to be to others that they often ignore its true value. V.S Naipaul, a Nobel Laureate born in Trinidad, shares a perspective of how the most fortunate do not always end up being the happiest people. Happiness is more of a journey; a goal that must be achieved. In V.S. Naipaul s The Enigma of Arrival , superstructure is conveyed through the characters and the story s sympathetic tone with the use of detail, syntax and diction. Naipaul suggests to readers that social classdoes not divide society, but rather creates a platform In The Enigma of Arrival, detail best represents the sympathetic tone that the author first directs at himself, having grown up of a lower social class. Growing up in poverty is common in today s world, although it is still shocking to people that there are others living poorly in such developed countries. Through the memory of the protagonist s home life as a child, the sympathetic tone becomes conspicuous, as he mentions that Those nerves had been given me as a child in Trinidad partly by our family circumstances: the half ruined or broken down houses we lived in, our many moves, our general uncertainty (Naipaul 1). The author did not grow up in the most prosperous circumstances, but he did have his family. They stuck together through the unfortunate circumstances, despite
  • 22. A Comparison Of Leadership In Henry V And Saint Joan The Struggle for Leadership In the plays Henry V by Shakespeare and Saint Joan by George Bernard Shaw, there is a distinct prevalence of how social class impacted both of their societies. In Henry V , King Henry was an elite member of his society who was viewed as a hero and a noble leader. Although status can create an impact on leadership and trust, not all heros were shown to have high social status. In Saint Joan, Joan was a peasant girl who still, despite her rank in society, was able to become an impactful leader and women s rights activist. Throughout both of these plays, two people both had the drive to become significant leaders, despite their varying social statuses. Along with analyzing the social status of each of the characters, both also incorporate forms of ethos, pathos, or logos to influence their audience. Although both of the speeches provide supporting evidence of ethos, pathos, or logos, Shakespeare is more successful in providing a speech and a strong, male lead character to inspire and motivate his audience, while Joan of Arclacks the appeals based on her social status and the impact her gender has in society. Often, we absorb most the select information that we have access to without realizing it. As a result, people may remember events different than they happened without realizing it. It is even common that the memory itself changes the more it surfaces in our minds. When we remember situations, we are not remembering the event. We are actually remembering the last time we remembered it, so we will not end up remembering it the same way. At the same time, our mind changes a memory every time we think. This could lead to the publishing biased information. Historians must have to come to a common decision or agreement when documenting history. They must talk through what they want to document and then decide what to write down. There are strengths of historians having different perspectives. For example, they explore the many different sides of something together. There is more information to sort through, even enough to fill in gaps that others failed to bridge over. Different sides to a story can help people to understand. There are also weaknesses to historians having different perspectives. Disagreements can cause confusion and conflict. The reason they called it this is because they thought that when the soldier s had been exposed to the shells exploding it cause them to have a concussion from the brain being rattled inside of the skull and that is what caused their behaviors and symptoms. Then came World War II .A new name called combat fatigue or combat exhaustion. The reason for that is because after the first war they screened may people so the weaker ones would not pass and would not be sent out to fight. Even though they did this the soldier s still came back with severe behavior and mental issues and would be discharged from the service. It was not until after the Korean War and the start of the Vietnam War that Psychiatrists started looking at the behaviors and issues that surrounded them. The term PTSD did not show up until the 80 s after the Vietnam War. The American Psychiatric Association who writes the DSM which stands for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders added this disorder to the manual to help professionals understand it and how to treat the individual that was seeking help. This disorder was not discovered by one person it is

Crosby seems to think that much of the Columbian voyages and what came out of them was detrimental to many cultures, most of all the Native Americans. Crosby brings up many institutions and ideologies to re enforce his opinion, such as the slave trade and the conquest of many Native Americancultures. One of the major effects of the Columbian exchangewas the decimation of the Native American population. Crosby attributes this to many factors, the conquest of the Europeans, the cultural vacuum created by European attempts to Christianize the Amerindians, and the introduction of new and lethal micro organisms into the ecosystem. More commonly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This in turn would lead to more consumption at the top of the food chain, eliminating the predators to creatures at the lower end of the food chain. This would cause their numbers to rise, which would lead to irreparable damage to the ever fragile ecosystem. Another reason that disease is needed was defined by Thomas Malthus. His concept is called the Malthusian Law, which states that the population will increase geometrically while the food supply will increase arithmetically. This, simply put, means that the population will grow enormously faster than the food supply will. Predictably, this leads to starvation and death. Disease, as a natural check, prevents this from happening. As the population is checked, the supply of food can keep up with the growth of population, keeping the ecosystem balanced. If disease was not a prevalent factor to check the growth of population, then the Malthusian Law certainly would be. However, checking the growth of population is not the only reason the disease is needed. Exposure to viruses can also help future generations of humans live longer and more fruitful lives. Strange as it may sound, being exposed to a particular virus can help one s children become better equipped to deal with it. This because human beings, as all living things, are constantly evolving. As the world around them changes, the physiology of the human changes as well. Each generation is
  • 41. Analyzing The Cash Flow Statement Analysing the cash flow statement would be a great place to first look when initially analysing a company. It is difficult for a company to manipulate the cash flow statements resulting in a honourable place to find the actual numbers. The cash flow statement is indicative of how well the company can convert net income into cash; it also helps to determine if a company is strong or weak. Panera realizes a positive net cash flowand is a strong company from their statements. To receive a deeper analysis, the three sections of the cash flow statements, cash flows from operations, cash flow from investing and cash flow from financing should be dissected. In the first section of cash flows from operations (CFO), Panera has had a strong and positive growth in cash flow from their operations from 2010 13 with a slight drop in 2104 due to the fact their net income decreased in 2014. During all five years, Panera stands in a upright position as their CFO is greater than net income. A ratio can be computed to see how high the quality of net income is by adding net income with deprecation dividing by the CFO shows that outside of 2010, net income proves to be of high quality. From the years 2011 2014 this ratio hovers around 90%, while in 2010 this ratio falters to 75% due to a high level of cash generated in accrued expenses. Although the net income remained high quality in 2014 it is concerning that figured dropped due to an increase in expenses. Cash flow from investing

  • 43. The Effect Of A Light Ray Reflecting This lab is made up of four different parts. In the first part we will examine the effects of a light ray reflecting at different angles of incident from a convex, flat, and convex mirror. In the second part a light ray will be refracted through a rhombus prism at different angles of incidence. We will measure the angles using a protractor. For the third experiment we will examine the indices of colors as light is refracted through the rhombus. Lastly, we will use polar lens to examine Brewster s angleand polarization. THEORY PART A: REFLECTION When a light ray hits a point on a plane mirror surface (called the incidence ray), it bounces off that same point and thus changes the course in which it is traveling. An angle of incidence can be obtained by measuring the angle between the ray of incidence and a line normal to the surface of the mirror. The angle of the reflected ray can also be obtained in the same way by measuring the angle between the reflected ray and the line normal to the surface. Measuring the two angles we can see that they are the same angle thus confirming the law of reflection: О r=О i.Eq.1 PART B: REFRACTION Refraction is caused when a ray of light travels through different mediums. When the light crosses through the material it causes the light to bend or refract because the wave does not enter the medium at
  • 44. How Is Beowulf An Epic Hero Beowulf was an epic poem that included the character Beowulf, a great soldier who became an even greater king. Beowulf slayed great Pagan creatures such as the Grendel and the Dragon of the Tower. Beowulf even reigned as Geatland s ring giver for a whole fifty winters without being besieged by an opposing force. Some people dispute that Beowulfis not actual epic hero, despite all of the hard, cold evidence that states otherwise. A classical epic has traits that designate whether or not the hero is an epic hero. Beowulf is considered an epic hero within the story because of these heroic characteristics that he displays: being a figure of legend, possessing supernatural strength and abilities, and having the assisstance of gods in his... This is indicating that God shall side with good instead of siding with the evil, Pagan Grendel. Additionally, Beowulf recited, I thank / Our Father in Heaven, Ruler of the Earth / For all of this, that His grace has given me, / Allowed me to bring to my people while breath / Still came to my lips. I sold my life / For this treasure, and I sold it well. (1017 1022). In this instance, Beowulf is thanking God for assisting him through his duels with Paganistic creatures. He thanks God for allowing him to give his fame to Geatland and for giving him the ability to protect Geatland. This is a perfect example of a god s assistance through the protagonist s story. This shows, again, how Beowulf is an epic hero because of the god s aid in his

Her tits weren t huge, but provided a nice handful. Her tight ass and toned legs got attention everywhere she went. However it was her hair and face that really completed the package. She had straight brunette hair that went down to the middle of her back. Her face was a bit small, which made her medium sized lips look big and luscious and her eyes real expressive. I swear that a single glance from those eyes would render most men speechless. The funny thing is that I don t think that Julie realized how hot she looked. Socially, she palled around with everyone. Eduardo Quintana Case Abstract This research paper is going to focus mainly in the process followed by Officer Bird during a traffic violation that led to the arrest of the suspect named Alejandro Quintana. The analysis of the two sides of the coin, the officer and the suspect taken into custody is of main interest in this case. There are a variety of steps to be followed prior to an arrest. The officer/investigator should be responsible for any action taken towards an individual who is about to or being processed. In the particular case of Alejandro Quintana, officer Bird executed the arrest of a suspect that clearly was suspicious utilizing probable cause and plain view search in order to arrest him and seize the evidence. Bird could have not searched the trunk of Mr. Quintana s car even if she thought he was hiding something from the law. According to Swanson et, al. (2014), the Supreme Court ruled I the 1981 case New York v. Belton that when a policeofficer makes a lawful custodial arrest of the occupant of an automobile, the officer may search the vehicle s passenger compartment as a contemporaneous incident of arrest...The right to search includes any open or closed containers found in the passenger compartment...It does not include the trunk (Swanson et, al. 2014), p.30). The arrest of Mr. Quintana gives the officer the right to search the passenger s side but not the car s trunk. Officer Bird couldn t be able to legally search Mr. Quintana s car trunk without and issued search warrant on the motor vehicle s trunk. According to (Decker, 1999), The purpose of a warrant is to allow a neutral judicial officer to assess whether the police have probable cause to make an arrest or conduct a search (Decker, 1999, para.2). This one reason provides an even field for the suspect and the police officer, giving the judge issuing the warrant the decision making process of whether or not permitting the prosecution of the individual who can be innocent by an officer unlawfully

Its on the context of the observations made by Ritzer, that the argument of the entire process of McDonaldization finds its place; which states that the concepts and principles followed by fast foodrestaurant chains, are rapidly taking over majority of the sectors in the American economy, and may dominate over the rest of the world (Ritzer, 2004, pg1). Of the various impacts that this methodology may have had, one of them is that it sees the revolution in the business principles, and has evolved the consumer s experience in terms of production and consumption. They wanted to define what the average American family was. The winners? A family by the name of the Leathers, who lived in Texas. They were white, able bodied, with two parents, two children, and the breadmaker of the house was a man. Other finalists in the competition paralleled the Leathers in almost every regard. When using this contest as a foundation for the definition of average, it shows how average is not diverse and rather exclusive. The contest completely disregarded the diverse people who make America the melting pot of the world. This is one of many themes that American author, John... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the novella, Crooks is shown to be treated horrendously. The only reason he is treated in such a way, is due to the color of his skin. For instance, Crooks is regularly not allowed in the bunkhouse, however, one time he is. It was during Christmas, and the men had been given a bottle of whiskey. They became drunk and it is at this point that Crooks is attacked. Steinbeck writes, They let [Crooks] come in that night. Little skinner [by the] name of Smitty took after [him]...The guys wouldn t let him use his feet. If he coulda used his feet, Smitty says he would have killed [Crooks] (20). There is no logical reason for Smitty to be provoked into harming Crooks. Crooks is at the bottom of the social ladder and physically disabled. He possesses nothing for Smitty to be jealous of, like a girl, money, or property, yet Smitty still harms him. This emphasizes how Smitty sees Crooks as nothing better than a punching bag; something easily replaceable and of little to no value. Not only this, but Smitty says he has no regrets for attacking Crooks. In fact, Smitty confessing, [I] would have killed [him] (20), displays pride in the act of almost killing another person. This pride is similar to that of a hunter killing an animal. Even more frightening, this is not an isolated incident. Later, Crooks is threatened again, when Curley s wife says, Well, you keep your place then [ n
