Stochastic Model For Energy Spot Price Analysis
In this chapter, we construct stochastic model for energy spot price by using e of Ordinary Least
Square Regression Model. At this point, it is imperative to discuss seasonality, which is a commonly
observed characteristic in energy markets. In order to assess whether there is actually an underlying
pattern prevailing in the return an autocorrelation test can be easily carried out for verification. As
explained in [10], the evidence of high autocorrelation manifests an underlying seasonality. On the
contract, if the returns were independents, as assumed by the Black Scholes model, the correlation
coefficient would be very close to zero indicating insufficiently evidence for an underlying
seasonality. Here, would follow an approach where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As mentioned earlier, to address this issue, the most commonly used methods include the OLSR. The
discretized equation has been tailor made for an Autoregrassion. However, the idea behind it into an
OLSR model is to subtract the term from both sides of the equation which then gives, (39) As we
observe, we can now analyze this equation as an algebra equation given by, (40) Where, (41) In order
to look at the above equation as a system of Linear equation, take (42) Where, , is an (n 1)

In particular, (43) Firstly, we observe that the slope of the regression line must equal the coefficient of

Philip Malloy Dialectical Journal
1. A wire service is a shared news story, which smaller papers buy. Since they do not have enough
money for their own reporters everywhere, they buy smaller versions of the story. This is going to
make an effect in the story because now the whole incident is everywhere, even the small towns that
have to pay for wire service. The news account of the story changes when it hits the wire because now
there is only a small part of the story and people make wrong assumptions. 2. I agree with Ms.
Narwin, because Philip did sing loudly, but only on the last day. on the first two days Philip was only

defense of America. Keep on singing. We all join in. While Allison Dorsett said, I just wanted to tell

This is not ironic because Philip did not mean for this to happen, it just did. 7. Seymour uses Narwin s

(Avi, 187) Seymour is being mostly truthful, but exaggerating greatly. He said that Ms. Narwin had

Sonya Kovalevsky Research Paper

Many who have had an opportunity of knowing any more about mathematics confuse it with
arithmetic, and consider it an arid science. In reality, however, it is a science which requires a great
amount of imagination.
Sonya Kovalevsky
Say what you know, do what you must, come what may. It is impossible to be a mathematician
without being a poet in soul. Sonya Kovalevsky said these quotes to inspire those around her. Her real
name is Sophia Kovalevsky.
Sonya Kovalevsky was born on January 15, 1850 in Moscow Russia. She grew up in a very
intellectual family. Her father was a military officer and a landholder, while her mother was the
granddaughter of a famous Russian astronomer and an accomplished musician. Sonya is the second ...

Anna s political views influenced her sister, who saw this movement as a means to pursue her
education. The sisters decided that the only way to further their education would be for one of them to
marry so they could both travel abroad. They planned a fictitious marriage whereby a man would
agree to the marriage ceremony, but would then let the woman pursue her own life. This was not an
unusual arrangement at the time since it was the only way to free a woman from her parents authority.
The sisters decided that Anna should partake in the fictitious marriage since she was older. However,
when the intended husband, nihilist Vladimir Onufrievich Kovalevsky, a publisher of political and
scientific works, met the sisters, he was more interested in Sonya because of her intellectual
achievements. They got married in September of 1868and settled down in St. Petersburg. Sonya

Two Other Aspects In The Health Category Are Life Expectancy
Two other aspects in the health category are life expectancy and infant mortality rates. The United
Arab Emirates has a life expectancy rate of 76.96 years and an infant mortality rate of 12.7%, which
this mortality rate seems high, but sadly are much higher ones out there. Oman has a life expectancy
rate of 76.59 years and an infant mortality rate of 16.8%, a little higher than the UAE s. Saudi Arabia
has a life expectancy rate of 75.50 years and an infant mortality rate of 11.5%, a little lower than the
UAE s. But when comparing the UAE to countries like Brazil and India, they are lucky. India s life
expectancy is 66.21 years, which is the lowest of all six of the countries that have been compared

Saudi Arabia has a poverty rate of 12.7% and China, with the lowest, has a poverty rate of 6.1%.
China s poverty rate seems rather low, but when you do the math, they have about 78 million people
who are living below the poverty line, which is a little over eight times the population of the United
Arab Emirates. India and Oman have very similar poverty rates and the two highest in this
comparison. India has a rate of 29.8% and Oman, with the highest at 32%.
There must be some reason for the high poverty rates, let s look at the income inequality in all seven
of these countries, starting with the United Arab Emirates. The UAE has a Gini coefficient, a
statistical measure of the degree of variation or inequality represented in a set of values, of 36%
(Wikipedia, 2017). It also has a GDP per capita of $43,048.85, which seems very high for a country
with a 20% poverty rate. Oman, although I have not found a Gini coefficient, has a GDP per capita of
$21,929.01, which is about half of the UAE s. Saudi Arabia has a Gini coefficient of 45.9% and it has
a GDP like Oman s at $25,961.81. Brazil has a Gini coefficient of 51.1%, which means that the wealth
isn t very spread around and many people are poor. Brazil s GDP per capita is $11,208.08, which is
almost four time lower than the UAE s, but maybe that is because Brazil has a much larger population
than the UAE. China has a Gini coefficient of 42.2% and a low GDP per capita of $6,807.43. China

Pipeline Case
Energy East is a proposed 4,600 kilometre pipeline by the Calgary based energy corporation
TransCanada. It would stretch from Alberta to New Brunswick, an export terminal. The pipeline, if
built could carry up to 1.1 Million barrels of crude oil per day. The pipeline would be built by
transforming an existing pipeline and adding more to the pipeline. Travelling through these pipelines
would be a cocktail of toxic chemicals including Benzene a known poisonous chemical, refined into
oil. This is very impactful to our environment and we have seen many issues arise. Our group,

Barack Obam A New Leader
After 9/11 the United States needed a new leader to make the U.S. a powerhouse again. This crisis was
very devastating to everyone and the U.S. needed a leader who could help rebuild the country. The
foundations of choosing a president is based on great leaders of the country over many years since the
beginning. Ironically, Barack Obama does not meet any of these principles of a good leader. Obama is
one of the most controversial presidents of all time because of his personal background, passed laws,
and debatable decisions.
Barack Obama is often questioned when talking about his background. Barack Hussein Obama II was
born in August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He grew up with his sister, Maya Soetoro Ng, mother,
Ann Dunham, grandfather, Stanley Armour Dunham, and grandmother, Madelyn Dunham. His father,
Barack Obama Sr., left his family when Obama was ten years old. Barack Obama later found out that
his father died in a car crash in Nairobi. Obama wanted to have a father in his life, but he would have
to live without a father for the rest of his life. Stanley Armour Dunham took the role of being Barack
Obama s father by teaching him life lessons and guiding him throughout his schooling. After high
school, Barack Obama attended Occidental College, Columbia

The Hidden Cost of Hybrid Vehicles
One of the most debated subjects in today s society is the growing concern over global warming. This
concern is derived from the increase in global pollution from many aspects but in particular
greenhouse gasses. This increase in pollution is attributed to a growing population that is more
dependent on modern commodities. Of these commodities one of the greatest contributors to this cycle
are motor vehicles. Because of the growing concern over the environmental effects of cars,
manufacturers have began to develop new vehicle types in order to reduce the amount of pollution
emitted through carbon emissions. Some of the options available now being produced by ... Show

This particular project will observe how the carbon footprint of automobiles effect the global climate?
Has the introduction of eco friendly vehicles changed this footprint? Ultimately the end result will
yield the environmental impact of eco friendly vehicle production, and whether it can outweigh its
carbon footprint. It is important to note that both the environmental effects and economic effects are
crucial in the advancement of technologies used by the auto manufacturers; in a sense both are
dependent on the other.
The purpose of this paper is to support the amateur research experiment in regards to the efficiency of
combustion and combustion hybrid engines. A brief literature review on the effects of automobile use
and production will help draw a conclusion as to whether hidden environmental effects outweigh its
marketed green value.
Environmental Effects of Motor Vehicle Exhaust The importance of the environmental effects
attributed to the use of motor vehicles cannot be understated; as one of the primary producers of
chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) cars a greatly responsible for the increase of greenhouse gasses (Desonie,
2009). Greenhouse gasses are considered to be the primary reason for the rise in global temperatures.
Within the entire existence of the motor vehicle, or approximately one hundred years, the temperature

The Hippie Movement In The United States
Hippies started as a youth movement which emerged in the United States during the mid 1960s and
spread to other throughout the world. The word hippie is derived hipster, and was used to describe
beatniks who had moved into New York City s Greenwhich Village and San Francisco s Haight

Ginsenburgand and Jack Kerouac, who were generally considered to be the precursors of hippies. The
term means currently fashionable or fully up to date . The movement developed as the opposition to
U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War (1955 75). Hippies usually were not directly engaged in politics,

Personality Theory Of Personality Development
Many personality theorists offered different explanations for human behaviors as well as established
specific stages of personality development. However, person centered theory does not have a theory of
personality structure, rather believes that it is essential to follow certain principles in order to develop
the self concept. Rogers s theory of personality is based on the notion that all individuals have the
innate ability to reach actualizing tendency and establish a self concept, which is congruent with his
whole experience (Warner, 2009). Rogers defined the actualizing tendency as the inborn motivating
force of the self, which move towards fulfilling and enhancing ones true potential. The actualizing
tendency applies to all living organism, however, in human this tendency is referred as self
actualization. According to Rogers (1980) actualizing tendency can be suppressed, though, it can
never be destroyed, without destroying the organism itself. This phenomenon is the motivating force
in the theory, which includes all motivations such as need, drive, or anxiety reduction. It also
encompasses, growth motivations for instance, the desire to be more creative and seeking of
pleasurable tensions. It is Rogers belief that all organisms including, humans strive to become his/her
full potential even under difficult circumstances. However, when individuals are lacking empathy and
unconditional positive regard in their society and in interpersonal relationship, then

As evidenced by the graph below, the average working hours in Germany, among other countries in
Europe, differ greatly from the United States and have continued to reduce over the years. Over the
years in Germany, the normal 40 hour work week has been considered a thing of the past, instead

officials declared an average 35 hour work week Monday through Friday, with 24 vacation days
throughout the year. This policy was designed to enhance the quality of life, and has actually dropped
Germanys unemployment rate down to 4.8% and, allowing Germany to keep up with the rest of the

when it comes to work time. That means that any lollygagging is severely frowned upon.

Custom Molds Strategy Analysis Essay
Introduction and Problem Definition
Custom Molds, Inc. was founded by a father and son team in 1987 to provide high quality, custom
designed molds for manufacturers of electronic connectors, but later expanded into the production of
plastic parts for the industry. In recent years, the changing environment of the electronics industry had
a profound impact on the way Custom Molds conducts its business and manufacturing processes. The
changing sales mix, coupled with delivery and quality problems, prompted the company to revise its
business strategies to address to following issues:
1) Changing trends in the electronics manufacturing industry that caused changes in clients order
needs
2) Unpredictable bottlenecks in the production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fabrication of a mold takes two to four weeks, depending on the amount of work the machinist
already has scheduled, even though the fabrication process itself takes only three to five days. There
are 13 master machinists in the company, and it is always the same machinist who was assigned to the
design team. This means an unequal amount of work is distributed among the machinists. The
estimated time for this step can be further shortened if the use of resources can be managed
effectively.
The parts manufacturing process, especially for molds that were previously manufactured and
maintained in inventory, is a somewhat different process than that for mold fabrication. Raw material
ordered for this process usually takes a week to arrive, contributing to an extended lead time for
delivery of parts to clients. Custom Molds practice of ordering raw materials only after the
specification review is clearly affecting the timely delivery of its orders, and in the parts
manufacturing industry where delivery times are critical, this can affect the company s relationships
with clients.
Even though Custom Molds has the capacity to produce 5,000 parts per day in the injection molding
department, the lead time for handling orders in this department has averaged one week. This reflects
the department s inability to fully utilize the company s production output capability to accelerate the
delivery time based on production.

but differ when compared to other housing areas. The North Campus Residence Halls, West Campus

Finally, the coda from measures 140 is rhythmically very similar to the codetta (measures 41 48) but,
Beethoven didn t want to end that way so then he adds another 4 measures of extension from measures
149 152 to officially declare that piece finally ending in perfect authentic cadence. I have come to
realize that even though this movement is a sonata form consisting of three main sections, it still feels
as though it has 2 main sections (binary structure). The cadential structure of the 1st half consist of
mainly using the half cadence (I V) from measures 1 100 which is the Exposition whereas the 2nd half
of the movement from measures 101 152 Development and Recapitulation uses full cadence (I IV V I)

2 No.1 in f minor is considered as one of Beethoven s earliest work dedicated to Haydn. The use of
extreme dynamics such as fortissimo from measures 144 147 is one of Beethoven s method to create a

leading to the recapitulation (m.101) in forte rather than in piano dynamic marking which is from
measure 1 2 at beginning of the piece. The short motive in the transition section (m. 13 14, m.50 51,

Sin City (Use of Color)
Sin City and The Use of Color
There are many aspects in film today that help make it what it is. A film couldn t live up to it s full
potential without lighting, sound, and actors. However, quite possibly one of the biggest advances in
film was the introduction of color. Nothing brings a movie to life more than seeing every hue of the
rainbow. Today s world demands the use of color in film, but is very underrated. For the most part,
every film is different and uses color in many ways to please the audience, but there is one film in
particular that uses it very differently. That film is Sin City (Frank Miller, 2005). While normally a
movie is shot in full color, Sin City is shot in black and white, and then color is later added. The ...

The colors eventually stop, but they stop during the blue phase when Jackie Boy s corpse starts to
speak. It reminds Dwight that he is a cop, and only continues to aggravate him. People will know that
he is dead, which will spark a war between Old Town and the cops.
Another important use of color is used for Roark Junior s body. While in the beginning of the movie
he s a regular person, he is almost killed, and then brought back to life. The only problem is that
multiple surgeries and medications have turned him yellow. The significance of yellow is to show that
he is both a coward and a monster, while also accentuating his devilish ways. It represents his
perverted ambitions and shows how much worse he has become since the start of the movie. It also
shows that he is Hartigan s nightmare, because Hartigan saved little Nancy s life 8 years prior from
Roark Junior, and Roark has been looking for her ever since. Hartigan eventually kills him, while the
audience sees the splatter of yellow blood around the room. This almost cartoonish scene of Hartigan
killing Junior helps justify the murder. Therefore, it helps portray Hartigan more as a hero rather than
a villain.
In Sin City, the use of color is more for the audience rather than the characters. It doesn t matter what
color Dwight s shoes or Marv s blood are because their stories will be told one way or another.
However, it helps give the audience more information. Each color signifies something

The First Real Newspaper, Relation, And Politics
The first real newspaper, Relation, was printed in 1605 in Strasbourg. The first French paper was
published in 1632. The first regularly published English newspaper appeared in London in 1622. They
were owner operated, and were largely autonomous, although risky because talking about royalty and
politics was illegal.
Most early newspapers were short lived. Printing and paper were expensive and relatively few people
could read. Journalism was also a risky business, as those in power did not welcome criticism or
scrutiny.
The late 18th century saw an important shift in European societies, namely the formation of a group
known as the public . Urban life had to develop sufficiently for strangers to be regularly thrown into
contact with one another. Common interests began to be widely shared among people otherwise not
linked by family, religion, or other established categories of social life. A rising bourgeois class came
out from under exclusive royal control, bringing with them leisure time, education, and financial
means. It signalled a power shift, both financial and political.
In 1729 Benjamin Franklin, then owner editor of the Pennsylvania Gazzette, pioneered the idea of
paid newspaper advertising. He also put in place a policy of editorial impartiality, clearly articulated in
an editorial column in the Pennsylvania Gazette in 1731, voicing sentiments familiar to journalists of

The Global Positioning System ( Gps )
Blame It On...
Have you ever planned a trip and used a global positioning system (GPS), to give you directions on
how to get where you were going? The global positioning system would show you where your current
location was and then it would pinpoint the destination you are trying to get to. The global positioning
system would then give you different routes you could take, and give you an estimated time on how
long each route could possibly take. Think of fate like the different routes you are given on your
global positioning system. You have a bunch of options, but they all lead you to the same destination.
When dealing with fate, it may seem like you are in control of your life, and that you can make
decision for yourself, but in the end you cannot escape your fate. The Greeks believed in the power of
the Gods and of fate. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines fate as the development of events
beyond a person s control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power (fate). The Greeks also
believed that fate was a pre determined phenomena, and therefore was unchangeable. A widely known
example of fate is in the Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex written by Sophocles. Oedipus Rex suggests that
people have little control over their own lives, and that ultimately people are just puppets in the hands
of the mythological Gods.
Oedipus is blind to the truth and reality of his own life. The blind prophet of Apollo, Teiresias the first
to tell Oedipus about his unknown fate and plants

Thom Gunn’s In the Tank
Thom Gunn s In the Tank A Manifestation of the Human Consciousness
A thorough analysis of subject material and literary style exhibits the complexity of establishing a
strong thematic base, which does not deter from the ebb and flow of a poetic medium . In Thom Gunn
s In the Tank, a felon is overwhelmed by emotion at the state of his existence in prison. In what
appears to be a moment s reflection, Thom Gunn s narrator in In the Tank reveals an abundance of
sentiment pertaining to his environment. From meticulous description of the prison environment, to
the exasperated feeling of loneliness and dejection, Gunn lures an audience into a seeming first hand
account of prison life.
However, a broader subject matter lay hidden in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus being established, literary devices are used in the description of the tank.
The second stanza of Tank begins with a course of alliteration that is both an enlightening and
confusing commentary on the poem. The cell was clean and cornered, and contained (line 5). Upon a
visual appreciation of the line, c is repeated four times. However, when the line is spoken out loud,
cell is pronounced with a soft se while clean and cornered, and contained are pronounced with a hard
k sound. Gunn s use of adjectives to describe the man s surroundings are proof of the figurative
difference between a cell and a tank. A cell is what the institution gives an inmate. It is exactly what
Gunn has described it as: clean and cornered, and contained. A tank, relatively speaking, is a
continuation of the cell, beyond what the institution issues. The word cell acts as a façade for the true
definition of the word (the clean and cornered and contained aspect of the cell). The cell, in turn, is a
part of the inmate s consciousness through exposure and constant scrutiny of surroundings and
becomes the tank. The use of the past tense indicates the flow of events from a cell to a tank. The cell
was clean and cornered and contained. Granted, the cell was all these, but what has the tank become?
After all, the environment is described as the felon s tank in line one. Again, an insinuation of

Chevron And Its Impact On The Economy
As most of the world knows oil prices have been plunging downwards since June 2014, in which a
barrel of oil has fallen more than 70 percent from that time, was $90 $100 a barrel, now $40 a barrel
and approaching $30 a barrel. This fall basically came about due to rapid increase in global oil
production which started to exceed its global demand therefore forcing prices down. Earnings are
down for companies that made record profits in recent years, leading them to decommission more than
two thirds of their rigs and sharply cut investment in exploration and production. Scores of companies
have gone bankrupt and an estimated 250,000 oil workers have lost their jobs. (Krauss, 2016). United
States #2 oil producer, Chevron, has also been severely affected by the downturn. From the chart
above it is shown that in 2013 chevron s Revenue and other income was at a nominal $228,848, as oil
prices were not affected yet. At the end of 2014, due to the plunge in oil prices starting in June 2014,
Chevron s Revenue and other income fell by $16,878 to $211,970. As oil prices continued to drop, it
caused Chevron s 2015 revenue and other income to plummet by $73,493 with their total sales and
other operating revenues suffering the sharpest drop by $70,569, as compared to 2014. Many other
effects have arise due to the continuing price drop such as a change in investment spending, according
to the chief executive of Chevron (John Watson) who said, Given fiscal terms and

The Role Of Scholarly Integrity
The need to educate the scientific community on scholarly integrity necessarily moves the issue
beyond the individual. It is in first instance, research institutions that must provide students, faculty,
and staff with guidelines and codes of practice on scholarly integrity, endorse appreciation for the
diversity of views that may be brought to bear on issues, and inform about the institutional rules and
government regulations that apply to research.
At the same time, no system of rules can be expected to be efficacious without some element of
sanction. Here, it is essential that the institutional level provide effective procedures with which
violations of scholarly integrity can be addressed. These should ideally encompass not just academic

It may not be the teacher s performance that is affecting the students test scores. The students may not
develop on the same level that the standardized test are wanting them develop at. Tests scores are
unreliable, but they still are more often right than wrong, but not sufficiently more often to justify
making high stakes decisions on the basis of test scores alone.
No Child Left Behind: What We Know and What We Need to Know talks about how the No Child
Left Behind holds the educational agencies and states accountable for the education of the students
and their performances inside the classroom. The NCLB wants to accomplish this goal by using
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) this measures how the students are doing inside the classroom. There
are some problems with the AYP it allows the states to pick their own standards of test scores and
proficiency levels. When the states make up their own rules on how to measure the AYP the studies
are finding out that the AYP is having an enormous impact in the schools that meet the AYP. Discusses
the problems we have with how we measure and calculate the effectiveness of how the schools are
doing with the NCLB. The article talks about how the NCLB is to improve schools for the
underperforming students. The connection is the article tells the readers how they measure the
progress of the AYP. So pertaining to my question of should the standardized tests be the only way of

The Social Action Theory and Symbolic Interactionism Essay
The Social Action Theory and Symbolic Interactionism Max Weber believed that individuals were the
key to society. He developed social action theory, the purpose of which was to find out why
individuals function in certain ways. He thought that every social action performed by an individual
had a meaning attached to it. Social actions are the result of conscious thought processes that take into
consideration the reactions of other individuals. Weber identified four types of social action which
include, reason (an instrumentally rational or calculated action), value or rational action (determined
by belief), emotion or effectual action (dependent upon the feelings of the individual), and traditional

These properties could be exchanged for money in the economic market he was of the opinion that
this position in the economic market place determined class position so that in theory there would be
as many class positions as economic positions. Therefore the class structure of society is essentially an
occupation structure. Social action theory recognises other divisions apart from simply class and also
recognises that consumption of goods (by which status groups are stratified) is just as important as the
production (by which class is stratified). It also draws attention to the importance of the individual and
their conscious actions. It does not however place enough emphasis on class divisions, as it tends to
concentrate more on status. Symbolic interactionists reject structure and believe that to study society,
the only way to do so is to concentrate on the individual. Both theories believe in understanding the
individual through the use of empathy. George Herbert Mead was mainly concerned with the
importance of language. Language distinguishes humans from animals and allows us to be aware of
our individuality. The use of symbols is a key element of language. They are used to give meanings to
particular events or objects and are learned by socialisation. Humans make them to assist them to

Mesopotamia vs. Egypt
Mesopotamia and Egypt were very different because of their geography and world view. Mesopotamia
was often flooded because of their bad geography, but the land around the Nile river was built well so
the Egyptians didn t have to worry about the river flooding as often. The land in Mesopotamia was
often attacked and invaded. Ultimately the geography of Egypt was significantly better than
Mesopotamia because of the benefits of the nile river created a positive world view, a strong
government and a universal religion.
Mesopotamia s land required more work than Egypt s because of their unscheduled flooding. The land
in Mesopotamia was fertile, but was very harsh due to the amount of excess water coming off the two
rivers. The people in Mesopotamia had a bad world view because they were constantly working and
fixing the land and it would get ruined again after the flooding because it was constant. The Epic of
Gilgamesh connects to the flooding of the river because his writings showed how the Mesopotamians
were under the mercy of the gods. It also described how the Mesopotamians had to keep fixing their
land after the unscheduled flooding. The people of Mesopotamia also had bad world because of the
overload of water that caused them to have a surplus of food. The Nile allowed the Egyptians to work
their crops instead of worrying about the river, unlike the people in Mesopotamia. Due to the flooding

Rabbit Run by John Updike Essay
Rabbit Run by John Updike The world of John Updike s Rabbit, Run is a collection of polarities that
dramatizes the in betweeness and the constant state of tension that characterizes humanity. A cursory
perusal of John Updike s Rabbit, Run reveals a world of hopeless futility in which Harry Angstrom
runs in ever tightening circles. Rabbit is always running, from one woman to another, between Brewer
and Mt. Judge, between solitude and society. Rabbit is torn because he has faith in something
meaningful in the world, somewhere, but he fails to find it during any of his frequent but brief stops.
More important than the futile vacuity of Rabbit s world, however, is the fact that he never gives up
his quest. He searches through sex, orthodox ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

resemble the landscape around Brewer, a tight mesh that constricts him. Updike states: At the upper

begins to seem another trap: The names melt away and he sees the map whole, a net, all those red lines

Comparing Nineteen Eighty-Four, And V For Vendetta
George Orwell said, One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution. One
makes the revolution in order to establish a dictatorship. This essay will be comparing and contrasting
Nineteen Eighty Four and V for Vendetta since they are both fictional narratives based on totalitarian
dystopian societies, where the government has the power over its citizens. The government can control
what they want their citizens to believe and think through propaganda. This creates fear in the citizens
of both societies. By showing that the everything which the current government is doing better than
the government in the past for it citizen. It is useful to compare V for Vendetta and the novel Nineteen
Eighty Four with respect to their depictions of dictators, representation of propaganda in a dystopian
society and the endings related to character development. Both societies can be compared with each
other by a figurehead which is worshipped by the citizens of the society, propaganda is used to control
the citizens of the society and the ending of movie V for Vendetta and Nineteen Eighteen Four book
contrast with each other in character development.
The first topic that is going to be compared is that in both societies the leader is worshipped by the
citizens. In the book, Nineteen Eighty Four Big brother is considered to be the savior of the society
and he is idolized by the citizens. Similarly in V for Vendetta Adam Sutler is also considered to be the
savior

Sociology And Religion In Arthur Miller s The Crucible
The Salem witchcraft trials can be examined through many different disciplines. It is recommended to
look at situations from different perspectives to gain a clearer and deeper understanding of the
complex problems that occurred. Granted, the two disciplines selected for this research seem closely
connected at times, however, through the individual lens of each discipline, that is not the case. The
two disciplines Sociology and Religion, offer a broader range of multiple perspectives, which is why
they are recommended for gaining deeper insight of the Salem witchcraft trials.
To further examine the Salem witchcraft trials, one must understand the different viewpoints. In Allen
F. Repko s Introduction to Interdisciplinary Studies , there are different approaches to each discipline.
The perspective on reality, the phenomena they study, and the epistemology they embrace. Sociology
is defined in many aspects. The perspective on reality define sociology as ... viewing the world as a
social reality that includes the range and nature of the relationships that exist between people in any
given society... particularly interested in voices of various subcultures, analysis of institutions and how
bureaucracies and vested interests shape life (Repko, 2014, p 27). This was evident throughout Arthur
Miller s play The Crucible . By viewing the relationships between people and society it is clear as to
why the events of Salem took place.

Bankfull Discharge Lab Report
Introduction The Jemez River, located in north central New Mexico, is an alluvial stream that
converges with the Rio Guadelupe. The purpose of this lab was to collect hydrologic data related to
the Jemez River and the Rio Guadalupe in order to evaluate the whether the prevailing ideas about
bankfull discharge are applicable to this system. The ideas that bankfull discharge is the most
important factor in determining the geomorphic characteristics of the stream, and that bankfull
discharge is has a recurrence interval of approximately 1.5 years were tested using field data collected
and compared to real time data collected below the confluence of the Jemez and Rio Guadalupe rivers.
Background
Alluvial streams form in the sediments they transport and deposit, and channel morphology is a
reflection of this process (Church, 2006). In arid environments, flood flows ... Show more content on

Gravity is one of the dominant forces acting to move water down slope, and the shear stress (τ), or the
resisting force exerted by bed and bank material act as the force opposing down slope movement
(Leopold et al., 1964). The variables considered in table 1 allow us to determine wither sediment of a
certain size will become mobile at bankfull flow, and ultimately be able to shape the stream channel.
In order for median sized sediment to become entrained, the bed shear stress (τb) must be greater than
the critical shear stress (τc), or the resistance force of the sediment quantified by the Shields number.
The streams ability to transport large clasts can be assessed using the Costa entrainment velocity, and
the critical value for the deposition of large clasts (τb) that may have been mobilized further up stream
can be estimated using the O Connor equation. The values assessed can ultimately offer insight into
stream power or the energy available for sediment transport and

Rhetorical Analysis Of Daniel
CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS
The book of Daniel is one about hope and unshakeable faith in God. Daniel is one of the greatest
examples of a God fearing man who did everything in his power to prove his love and loyalty for his
Savior. The main theme of the book of Daniel is God s sovereignty over history and empires, in which
He appoints and dethrones rulers as He pleases.1 This is an allusion to the fact that worldly kingdoms
will come and go, but the Lord s Kingdom will never pass away. Several chapters throughout the book
of Daniel deal with this concept. The book is named after the writer and main character, written in the
sixth century B.C., to record the events of his life and the visions that he saw from the time of his exile
to the third year of King Cyrus.2
The passage which is being studied is found in Daniel 3:8 30 which is the story of the fiery furnace.
Before one can examine this passage of Scripture, it is imperative that one understands the events that
took place before the action to fully understand the story. Refer the outline for the first three chapters
of Daniel for further explanation.

The World Of Baseball Player For The St. Louis Cardinals...
Curt Flood was an All Star baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals that did not want to be traded
against his wishes to the Philadelphia Phillies. This decision to publicly come out and make this
particular statement ultimately started a battle for player liberty and benefits in baseball. This paper
will be diving into the ideals and ramifications behind his choice to dispute the sport of baseball, the
context of American society around the time of the issue and its relationship, the main events
involving Flood s actions, the labor dispute, Flood v. Kuhn case along with other critical elements in
the main body, the progression of this topic in discussion, and a recap of the topic and its significance
in relation to contemporary American society in conclusion. This topic represents a time in which
athletes, in this case baseball players, did not have a free choice when it came to having the liberty of
deciding where they would like to play. The main concepts that will be described within this paper
will include the reserve clause, Flood v. Kuhn case, MLBPA, lockouts, or strikes, and free agency. The
reserve clause sought to restrict a player s freedom to move into a contract with another team. Flood v.
Kuhn was the huge case where Flood went against the power of baseball s commissioner and took the
case up to the Supreme Court. The MLBPA is important because it is the players union for when they
need to come together as one to respond to a case such as Flood v. Kuhn. A

Forms Of Pop Culture
There are many forms of pop culture seen throughout society. Many people see pop culture in
different forms. Some may see pop culture in a comic book series or on social media platforms. There
are some things that people do not feel should be considered being a part of pop culture. Everything
has a meaning, within the meaning of the object is some form of art seen by others. Pop culture
encompasses a variety of work with different styles of art. Any form of art can be considered being a
part of pop culture. Pop culture itself is a form of art. There are different forms of art when it comes
down to pop culture. Though, there are many forms of art, some people tend to feel that they do not
belong in the pop culture category. Comics at one time were not considered to be a form of art.
According to Douglas Walk, Comic culture couldn t have attracted as many people as it s attracted
(Walk 570). The quote shows that comics were not always as popular as they are now. People would
not have come to fact that comics could possibly be considered as art. People see art in different ways.
Not everyone sees art the same. Pop culture has bought about many ways of seeing different forms art.
For instance, Susan Willis From Inside the Mouse: Work and Play at Disney World shows that Disney
World shows many forms of art throughout the theme park. Disney World itself, if a form of art.

  • 2. Stochastic Model For Energy Spot Price Analysis In this chapter, we construct stochastic model for energy spot price by using e of Ordinary Least Square Regression Model. At this point, it is imperative to discuss seasonality, which is a commonly observed characteristic in energy markets. In order to assess whether there is actually an underlying pattern prevailing in the return an autocorrelation test can be easily carried out for verification. As explained in [10], the evidence of high autocorrelation manifests an underlying seasonality. On the contract, if the returns were independents, as assumed by the Black Scholes model, the correlation coefficient would be very close to zero indicating insufficiently evidence for an underlying seasonality. Here, would follow an approach where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned earlier, to address this issue, the most commonly used methods include the OLSR. The discretized equation has been tailor made for an Autoregrassion. However, the idea behind it into an OLSR model is to subtract the term from both sides of the equation which then gives, (39) As we observe, we can now analyze this equation as an algebra equation given by, (40) Where, (41) In order to look at the above equation as a system of Linear equation, take (42) Where, , is an (n 1) dimensional vector containing the difference of the log prices where n is the number of observations. matrix with 1 s in the first column and the log prices in the second. matrix with the first coefficient as the intercept and the second coefficient as the slope of the regression line. = Noise or Residual term. In particular, (43) Firstly, we observe that the slope of the regression line must equal the coefficient of the log prices. In particular, as indicated above, (44) Taking natural logarithm of both sides gives, (45) (46) Secondly, the deterministic part of equation (40) must equal the intercept of the regression line, which gives, (47) (48) Finally, we need to formulate an equation for ... • 3. Philip Malloy Dialectical Journal 1. A wire service is a shared news story, which smaller papers buy. Since they do not have enough money for their own reporters everywhere, they buy smaller versions of the story. This is going to make an effect in the story because now the whole incident is everywhere, even the small towns that have to pay for wire service. The news account of the story changes when it hits the wire because now there is only a small part of the story and people make wrong assumptions. 2. I agree with Ms. Narwin, because Philip did sing loudly, but only on the last day. on the first two days Philip was only humming, but loudly, to annoy Ms. Narwin. Philip Malloy: No. Not at all. Just, you know, sort of to myself. Almost humming. Really. I always do. (Avi, 62) Philip then did continue on to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 5. When Philip is invited back to Lunser s homeroom, he is very shy about singing the anthem. He refuses, and makes the reader realize that Philip found out that not everyone, including Alison, do not like what he did. 6. Philip receives very supportive telegrams like, Dear Philip, We support your defense of America. Keep on singing. We all join in. While Allison Dorsett said, I just wanted to tell you that I think what you did was really mean. Philip was really depressed because he really liked her. This is not ironic because Philip did not mean for this to happen, it just did. 7. Seymour uses Narwin s letter to his advantage by telling Mr. Griffen that Ms. Narwin has been around, ...since history began. (Avi, 187) Seymour is being mostly truthful, but exaggerating greatly. He said that Ms. Narwin had been teaching since history began, and obviously, she has not. On the other hand, she has been teaching for a extremely long time, and some people, including herself at some moments, believe she should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sonya Kovalevsky Research Paper Sonya Kovalevsky Many who have had an opportunity of knowing any more about mathematics confuse it with arithmetic, and consider it an arid science. In reality, however, it is a science which requires a great amount of imagination. Sonya Kovalevsky Say what you know, do what you must, come what may. It is impossible to be a mathematician without being a poet in soul. Sonya Kovalevsky said these quotes to inspire those around her. Her real name is Sophia Kovalevsky. Sonya Kovalevsky was born on January 15, 1850 in Moscow Russia. She grew up in a very intellectual family. Her father was a military officer and a landholder, while her mother was the granddaughter of a famous Russian astronomer and an accomplished musician. Sonya is the second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anna s political views influenced her sister, who saw this movement as a means to pursue her education. The sisters decided that the only way to further their education would be for one of them to marry so they could both travel abroad. They planned a fictitious marriage whereby a man would agree to the marriage ceremony, but would then let the woman pursue her own life. This was not an unusual arrangement at the time since it was the only way to free a woman from her parents authority. The sisters decided that Anna should partake in the fictitious marriage since she was older. However, when the intended husband, nihilist Vladimir Onufrievich Kovalevsky, a publisher of political and scientific works, met the sisters, he was more interested in Sonya because of her intellectual achievements. They got married in September of 1868and settled down in St. Petersburg. Sonya continued her lessons in math but also sat in on classes at the Medical Surgical academy. • 5. Two Other Aspects In The Health Category Are Life Expectancy Two other aspects in the health category are life expectancy and infant mortality rates. The United Arab Emirates has a life expectancy rate of 76.96 years and an infant mortality rate of 12.7%, which this mortality rate seems high, but sadly are much higher ones out there. Oman has a life expectancy rate of 76.59 years and an infant mortality rate of 16.8%, a little higher than the UAE s. Saudi Arabia has a life expectancy rate of 75.50 years and an infant mortality rate of 11.5%, a little lower than the UAE s. But when comparing the UAE to countries like Brazil and India, they are lucky. India s life expectancy is 66.21 years, which is the lowest of all six of the countries that have been compared throughout this paper, and an infant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Saudi Arabia has a poverty rate of 12.7% and China, with the lowest, has a poverty rate of 6.1%. China s poverty rate seems rather low, but when you do the math, they have about 78 million people who are living below the poverty line, which is a little over eight times the population of the United Arab Emirates. India and Oman have very similar poverty rates and the two highest in this comparison. India has a rate of 29.8% and Oman, with the highest at 32%. There must be some reason for the high poverty rates, let s look at the income inequality in all seven of these countries, starting with the United Arab Emirates. The UAE has a Gini coefficient, a statistical measure of the degree of variation or inequality represented in a set of values, of 36% (Wikipedia, 2017). It also has a GDP per capita of $43,048.85, which seems very high for a country with a 20% poverty rate. Oman, although I have not found a Gini coefficient, has a GDP per capita of $21,929.01, which is about half of the UAE s. Saudi Arabia has a Gini coefficient of 45.9% and it has a GDP like Oman s at $25,961.81. Brazil has a Gini coefficient of 51.1%, which means that the wealth isn t very spread around and many people are poor. Brazil s GDP per capita is $11,208.08, which is almost four time lower than the UAE s, but maybe that is because Brazil has a much larger population than the UAE. China has a Gini coefficient of 42.2% and a low GDP per capita of $6,807.43. China ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Barack Obam A New Leader After 9/11 the United States needed a new leader to make the U.S. a powerhouse again. This crisis was very devastating to everyone and the U.S. needed a leader who could help rebuild the country. The foundations of choosing a president is based on great leaders of the country over many years since the beginning. Ironically, Barack Obama does not meet any of these principles of a good leader. Obama is one of the most controversial presidents of all time because of his personal background, passed laws, and debatable decisions. Barack Obama is often questioned when talking about his background. Barack Hussein Obama II was born in August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He grew up with his sister, Maya Soetoro Ng, mother, Ann Dunham, grandfather, Stanley Armour Dunham, and grandmother, Madelyn Dunham. His father, Barack Obama Sr., left his family when Obama was ten years old. Barack Obama later found out that his father died in a car crash in Nairobi. Obama wanted to have a father in his life, but he would have to live without a father for the rest of his life. Stanley Armour Dunham took the role of being Barack Obama s father by teaching him life lessons and guiding him throughout his schooling. After high school, Barack Obama attended Occidental College, Columbia Gombos 2 University, and Harvard Law School. While Obama was enrolled in Occidental College, he traveled to Pakistan for three weeks to visit college friends. Some people later questioned his alliances with Pakistan ... • 8. The Hidden Cost Of Hybrid Vehicles Victor Samaniego December 16, 2014 GEO 368 The Hidden Cost of Hybrid Vehicles One of the most debated subjects in today s society is the growing concern over global warming. This concern is derived from the increase in global pollution from many aspects but in particular greenhouse gasses. This increase in pollution is attributed to a growing population that is more dependent on modern commodities. Of these commodities one of the greatest contributors to this cycle are motor vehicles. Because of the growing concern over the environmental effects of cars, manufacturers have began to develop new vehicle types in order to reduce the amount of pollution emitted through carbon emissions. Some of the options available now being produced by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This particular project will observe how the carbon footprint of automobiles effect the global climate? Has the introduction of eco friendly vehicles changed this footprint? Ultimately the end result will yield the environmental impact of eco friendly vehicle production, and whether it can outweigh its carbon footprint. It is important to note that both the environmental effects and economic effects are crucial in the advancement of technologies used by the auto manufacturers; in a sense both are dependent on the other. The purpose of this paper is to support the amateur research experiment in regards to the efficiency of combustion and combustion hybrid engines. A brief literature review on the effects of automobile use and production will help draw a conclusion as to whether hidden environmental effects outweigh its marketed green value. Environmental Effects of Motor Vehicle Exhaust The importance of the environmental effects attributed to the use of motor vehicles cannot be understated; as one of the primary producers of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) cars a greatly responsible for the increase of greenhouse gasses (Desonie, 2009). Greenhouse gasses are considered to be the primary reason for the rise in global temperatures. • 10. Personality Theory Of Personality Development Many personality theorists offered different explanations for human behaviors as well as established specific stages of personality development. However, person centered theory does not have a theory of personality structure, rather believes that it is essential to follow certain principles in order to develop the self concept. Rogers s theory of personality is based on the notion that all individuals have the innate ability to reach actualizing tendency and establish a self concept, which is congruent with his whole experience (Warner, 2009). Rogers defined the actualizing tendency as the inborn motivating force of the self, which move towards fulfilling and enhancing ones true potential. The actualizing tendency applies to all living organism, however, in human this tendency is referred as self actualization. According to Rogers (1980) actualizing tendency can be suppressed, though, it can never be destroyed, without destroying the organism itself. This phenomenon is the motivating force in the theory, which includes all motivations such as need, drive, or anxiety reduction. It also encompasses, growth motivations for instance, the desire to be more creative and seeking of pleasurable tensions. Custom Molds Strategy Analysis Essay Introduction and Problem Definition Custom Molds, Inc. was founded by a father and son team in 1987 to provide high quality, custom designed molds for manufacturers of electronic connectors, but later expanded into the production of plastic parts for the industry. In recent years, the changing environment of the electronics industry had a profound impact on the way Custom Molds conducts its business and manufacturing processes. The changing sales mix, coupled with delivery and quality problems, prompted the company to revise its business strategies to address to following issues: 1) Changing trends in the electronics manufacturing industry that caused changes in clients order needs 2) Unpredictable bottlenecks in the production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fabrication of a mold takes two to four weeks, depending on the amount of work the machinist already has scheduled, even though the fabrication process itself takes only three to five days. There are 13 master machinists in the company, and it is always the same machinist who was assigned to the design team. This means an unequal amount of work is distributed among the machinists. The estimated time for this step can be further shortened if the use of resources can be managed effectively. The parts manufacturing process, especially for molds that were previously manufactured and maintained in inventory, is a somewhat different process than that for mold fabrication. Raw material ordered for this process usually takes a week to arrive, contributing to an extended lead time for delivery of parts to clients. Custom Molds practice of ordering raw materials only after the specification review is clearly affecting the timely delivery of its orders, and in the parts manufacturing industry where delivery times are critical, this can affect the company s relationships with clients. Although this is much more expensive than the in state tuition cost, the overall out of state cost to attend UW is not as expensive as out of state costs for other schools or private schools. I have come to realize that even though this movement is a sonata form consisting of three main sections, it still feels as though it has 2 main sections (binary structure). The cadential structure of the 1st half consist of mainly using the half cadence (I V) from measures 1 100 which is the Exposition whereas the 2nd half of the movement from measures 101 152 Development and Recapitulation uses full cadence (I IV V I) and mostly ends in a perfect authentic cadence. ... The use of extreme dynamics such as fortissimo from measures 144 147 is one of Beethoven s method to create a sense of drive throughout the movement. In my opinion the development is the most dramatic section leading to the recapitulation (m.101) in forte rather than in piano dynamic marking which is from measure 1 2 at beginning of the piece. The short motive in the transition section (m. 13 14, m.50 51, m.95 100, m.111 114) is almost like a motive from Haydn s string quartet. A film couldn t live up to it s full potential without lighting, sound, and actors. However, quite possibly one of the biggest advances in film was the introduction of color. Nothing brings a movie to life more than seeing every hue of the rainbow. Today s world demands the use of color in film, but is very underrated. For the most part, every film is different and uses color in many ways to please the audience, but there is one film in particular that uses it very differently. It reminds Dwight that he is a cop, and only continues to aggravate him. People will know that he is dead, which will spark a war between Old Town and the cops. Another important use of color is used for Roark Junior s body. While in the beginning of the movie he s a regular person, he is almost killed, and then brought back to life. The only problem is that multiple surgeries and medications have turned him yellow. The significance of yellow is to show that he is both a coward and a monster, while also accentuating his devilish ways. It represents his perverted ambitions and shows how much worse he has become since the start of the movie. It also shows that he is Hartigan s nightmare, because Hartigan saved little Nancy s life 8 years prior from Roark Junior, and Roark has been looking for her ever since. Hartigan eventually kills him, while the audience sees the splatter of yellow blood around the room. This almost cartoonish scene of Hartigan killing Junior helps justify the murder. Therefore, it helps portray Hartigan more as a hero rather than a villain. In Sin City, the use of color is more for the audience rather than the characters. It doesn t matter what color Dwight s shoes or Marv s blood are because their stories will be told one way or another. However, it helps give the audience more information. The first regularly published English newspaper appeared in London in 1622. They were owner operated, and were largely autonomous, although risky because talking about royalty and politics was illegal. Most early newspapers were short lived. Printing and paper were expensive and relatively few people could read. Journalism was also a risky business, as those in power did not welcome criticism or scrutiny. The late 18th century saw an important shift in European societies, namely the formation of a group known as the public . Urban life had to develop sufficiently for strangers to be regularly thrown into contact with one another. Common interests began to be widely shared among people otherwise not linked by family, religion, or other established categories of social life. A rising bourgeois class came out from under exclusive royal control, bringing with them leisure time, education, and financial means. It signalled a power shift, both financial and political. In 1729 Benjamin Franklin, then owner editor of the Pennsylvania Gazzette, pioneered the idea of paid newspaper advertising. The global positioning system would show you where your current location was and then it would pinpoint the destination you are trying to get to. The global positioning system would then give you different routes you could take, and give you an estimated time on how long each route could possibly take. Think of fate like the different routes you are given on your global positioning system. You have a bunch of options, but they all lead you to the same destination. When dealing with fate, it may seem like you are in control of your life, and that you can make decision for yourself, but in the end you cannot escape your fate. The Greeks believed in the power of the Gods and of fate. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines fate as the development of events beyond a person s control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power (fate). The Greeks also believed that fate was a pre determined phenomena, and therefore was unchangeable. A widely known example of fate is in the Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex written by Sophocles. Oedipus Rex suggests that people have little control over their own lives, and that ultimately people are just puppets in the hands of the mythological Gods. Thom Gunn’s In the Tank Thom Gunn s In the Tank A Manifestation of the Human Consciousness A thorough analysis of subject material and literary style exhibits the complexity of establishing a strong thematic base, which does not deter from the ebb and flow of a poetic medium . In what appears to be a moment s reflection, Thom Gunn s narrator in In the Tank reveals an abundance of sentiment pertaining to his environment. The second stanza of Tank begins with a course of alliteration that is both an enlightening and confusing commentary on the poem. The cell was clean and cornered, and contained (line 5). Upon a visual appreciation of the line, c is repeated four times. However, when the line is spoken out loud, cell is pronounced with a soft se while clean and cornered, and contained are pronounced with a hard k sound. Gunn s use of adjectives to describe the man s surroundings are proof of the figurative difference between a cell and a tank. A cell is what the institution gives an inmate. It is exactly what Gunn has described it as: clean and cornered, and contained. A tank, relatively speaking, is a continuation of the cell, beyond what the institution issues. The word cell acts as a façade for the true definition of the word (the clean and cornered and contained aspect of the cell). The cell, in turn, is a part of the inmate s consciousness through exposure and constant scrutiny of surroundings and becomes the tank. The use of the past tense indicates the flow of events from a cell to a tank. The cell was clean and cornered and contained. Granted, the cell was all these, but what has the tank become? After all, the environment is described as the felon s tank in line one. Again, an insinuation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This fall basically came about due to rapid increase in global oil production which started to exceed its global demand therefore forcing prices down. Earnings are down for companies that made record profits in recent years, leading them to decommission more than two thirds of their rigs and sharply cut investment in exploration and production. Scores of companies have gone bankrupt and an estimated 250,000 oil workers have lost their jobs. (Krauss, 2016). He developed social action theory, the purpose of which was to find out why individuals function in certain ways. He thought that every social action performed by an individual had a meaning attached to it. Social actions are the result of conscious thought processes that take into consideration the reactions of other individuals. Weber identified four types of social action which include, reason (an instrumentally rational or calculated action), value or rational action (determined by belief), emotion or effectual action (dependent upon the feelings of the individual), and traditional ... These properties could be exchanged for money in the economic market he was of the opinion that this position in the economic market place determined class position so that in theory there would be as many class positions as economic positions. Therefore the class structure of society is essentially an occupation structure. Social action theory recognises other divisions apart from simply class and also recognises that consumption of goods (by which status groups are stratified) is just as important as the production (by which class is stratified). It also draws attention to the importance of the individual and their conscious actions. It does not however place enough emphasis on class divisions, as it tends to concentrate more on status. Symbolic interactionists reject structure and believe that to study society, the only way to do so is to concentrate on the individual. Both theories believe in understanding the individual through the use of empathy. George Herbert Mead was mainly concerned with the importance of language. • 35. Bankfull Discharge Lab Report Introduction The Jemez River, located in north central New Mexico, is an alluvial stream that converges with the Rio Guadelupe. The purpose of this lab was to collect hydrologic data related to the Jemez River and the Rio Guadalupe in order to evaluate the whether the prevailing ideas about bankfull discharge are applicable to this system. The ideas that bankfull discharge is the most important factor in determining the geomorphic characteristics of the stream, and that bankfull discharge is has a recurrence interval of approximately 1.5 years were tested using field data collected and compared to real time data collected below the confluence of the Jemez and Rio Guadalupe rivers. Background Alluvial streams form in the sediments they transport and deposit, and channel morphology is a reflection of this process (Church, 2006). In arid environments, flood flows ... Gravity is one of the dominant forces acting to move water down slope, and the shear stress (τ), or the resisting force exerted by bed and bank material act as the force opposing down slope movement (Leopold et al., 1964). The variables considered in table 1 allow us to determine wither sediment of a certain size will become mobile at bankfull flow, and ultimately be able to shape the stream channel. In order for median sized sediment to become entrained, the bed shear stress (τb) must be greater than the critical shear stress (τc), or the resistance force of the sediment quantified by the Shields number. The streams ability to transport large clasts can be assessed using the Costa entrainment velocity, and the critical value for the deposition of large clasts (τb) that may have been mobilized further up stream can be estimated using the O Connor equation. The values assessed can ultimately offer insight into stream power or the energy available for sediment transport and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Rhetorical Analysis Of Daniel CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS The book of Daniel is one about hope and unshakeable faith in God. Daniel is one of the greatest examples of a God fearing man who did everything in his power to prove his love and loyalty for his Savior. The main theme of the book of Daniel is God s sovereignty over history and empires, in which He appoints and dethrones rulers as He pleases.1 This is an allusion to the fact that worldly kingdoms will come and go, but the Lord s Kingdom will never pass away. Several chapters throughout the book of Daniel deal with this concept. The book is named after the writer and main character, written in the sixth century B.C., to record the events of his life and the visions that he saw from the time of his exile to the third year of King Cyrus.2 The passage which is being studied is found in Daniel 3:8 30 which is the story of the fiery furnace. Before one can examine this passage of Scripture, it is imperative that one understands the events that took place before the action to fully understand the story. Refer the outline for the first three chapters of Daniel for further explanation. I. Daniel and the Three Friends at the Babylonian Court (1:1 6:28) a. Prologue (1:1 21) i. • 37. The World Of Baseball Player For The St. Louis Cardinals... Curt Flood was an All Star baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals that did not want to be traded against his wishes to the Philadelphia Phillies. This decision to publicly come out and make this particular statement ultimately started a battle for player liberty and benefits in baseball. This paper will be diving into the ideals and ramifications behind his choice to dispute the sport of baseball, the context of American society around the time of the issue and its relationship, the main events involving Flood s actions, the labor dispute, Flood v. Kuhn case along with other critical elements in the main body, the progression of this topic in discussion, and a recap of the topic and its significance in relation to contemporary American society in conclusion. This topic represents a time in which athletes, in this case baseball players, did not have a free choice when it came to having the liberty of deciding where they would like to play. The main concepts that will be described within this paper will include the reserve clause, Flood v. Kuhn case, MLBPA, lockouts, or strikes, and free agency. The reserve clause sought to restrict a player s freedom to move into a contract with another team. Flood v. Kuhn was the huge case where Flood went against the power of baseball s commissioner and took the case up to the Supreme Court. The MLBPA is important because it is the players union for when they need to come together as one to respond to a case such as Flood v. Kuhn. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
