Concept Analysis Of Pain And Pain
Concept Analysis of Pain The most common reason that people seek medical care is pain, and pain is
the leading cause of disability (Peterson Bredow, 2013, p. 51; National Institute of Health, 2010). Pain
is such an important topic in healthcare that the United States congress identified 2000 to 2010 as the
Decade of Pain Control and Research (Brunner L. S., et al., 2010, p. 231). Unfortunatelly, patients are
reporting a small increase in satisfaction with the pain management while in the hospital (Bernhofer,
2011). Pain assessment and treatment can be complex since nurses do not have a tool to quantify it.
Pain is considered the fifth vital sign, however, we do not have numbers to guide our interventions.
Pain is a subjective expirience that cannot be shared easily. Since nurses spend more time with
patients in pain than any other healthcare provider, nurses must have a clear understanding of the
concept of pain (Brunner, et al., 2010). Concept analysis main objective is to clarify ideas, to enhance
critical thinking, and to promote communication (Rodgers Knafl, 2000). This paper will examine the
concept of pain using Wilson s Steps of Concept Analysis (Rodgers Knafl, 2000). Concept analysis are
particularly helpful in explaining ambiguous concepts (Rodgers Knafl, 2000). Pain is defined in
multiple ways. Also, pain has is associated with a lot of misconceptions. This concept analysis
objective is to bring clarity and to provide a deeper understanding of pain.

Pet Grooming
Grooming is an important part of dog care. Depending on the breed, age, and health of the dog,
grooming may be a daily activity. Many breeds require significantly less grooming than this, but
regular grooming helps to ensure the dog is healthy and comfortable.

Start up inventory will be mainly shampoo and grooming supplies, food for the dogs, and other
supplies like bedding. Assets will be the kennels and play structures for the dogs, and the bathing
facilities.
Services
Pawsitive Pet grooming offers upscale dog owners a place where they can leave their pets while at
work, and away for weekend trips or on vacation. It also offers feeding and exercising, as well as
washing, grooming and low level veterinary services. The location will be a large lot on the outskirts
of a high income residential area. Our projections include a heavy rent because of the location
requirements. Customers pay by the day, by the hour, or by the month. Our assumption is that the
average customer generates about Php. 50,000.00 per month.
Market Analysis Summary
The market for Pawsitive Pet grooming is all of the dog owners in the metropolitan area and
surrounding areas of the city. We believe that this is going to be 2/3 of the population, and we have a
goal of gaining a 50% market share. We have a target of a 20% yearly profit increase as the business
continues.
3.1 Target Market Segment Strategy
We have chosen our target market because they own canines and have the ability to afford a service
such as Pawsitive Pet Grooming. We are aware that our service is an extra in life, not a necessity. We
anticipate and expect to cater to the upper class

The Inequality Of Latin America
In the 1500s, Spanish and Portuguese colonizers imposed their language, their religion, and their
social institutions on the indigenous Americans and enslaved Africans, people who labored for them in
mines and fields and who served them, too, at table and in bed (Chasteen 5). Many people would say
this is where inequality in Latin America began, with colonization. However, colonization is just a
small piece of the roots of inequality of the region, which actually started with the natives of the lands
such as the Incas, Aztecs and Mayans. These three empires ruled most of the Latin American region
and did so by conquering other native groups or tribes. The Empires had a ruling class or king that
was able to oppress and work his people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peninsulars received the land and the control over the government?, which caused issues with the next
class, the Creoles. Creoles were people of Spanish decent born in Latin America. Despite the slight
distinction between the two, they did not receive the same land and power as the Peninsulars because
of their birthplace, which caused resentment and later sparked revolution. Next were the Mestizos,
who were of European and indigenous American decent. The more the different ethnicities mixed, the
more class distinctions were created. Because they introduced foreign diseases, the Europeans and
Africans eventually replaced the indigenous Americans and brought about the potential for rich
diversity. Social class typically ranged from the most European being the best off to the most
indigenous or African being the poorest. The original sin of Latin American history the festering social
injustice at the core had done its durable damage (Chasteen 42). In addition, the social and political
systems created by the Peninsulars were intended to serve their home country, only making matters
worse.
Once Spanish and Portuguese established rule in the New World, they began to economically take
advantage of the indigenous people and the new resources. The Spanish Crown implemented a tax
called the royal fifth to get money from the mining in Latin America, and to collect the tax they had to

King Richard Essay
King Richard
My report is on Richard I, byname Richard the Lion Hearted. He was born September 8, 1157 in
Oxford, England. He died on April 6, 1199 in Chalus, England. His knightly manner and his prowess
in the Third Crusade(1189 92) made him a popular king in his own time, as well as the hero of
countless romantic legends. He has been viewed less kindly by more recent historians and scholars.
Richard was the third son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, and he was given the duchy of
Aquitaine, his mother s inheritance, at the age of 11 and was enthroned as duke at Poitiers in 1172.
Richard possessed precocious political and military ability, he won fame for his knightly prowess, and

Richard found the Sicilians hostile, and took Messina by storm(October 4). To prevent the German
Emperor Henry VI from ruling their country, the Sicilians had elected the native, Tancred of Lecce,
who had imprisoned the late king s wife, Joan of England(Richard s sister), and denied her possession
of her dower. By the Treaty of Messina, Richard obtained for Joan her release and her dower,
acknowledged Tancred as king of
Sicily, declared Arthur of Brittany(Richard s nephew)to be his own heir, and provided for Arthur to
marry Tancred s daughter. This treaty infuriated the Germans, who were also taking part in the Third
Crusade, and it incited Richard s brother, John, to treachery and rebellion. Richard joined the other
crusaders at Acre on June 8, 1191, conquered Cyprus on his way there. While at Limassol in Cyprus,
Richard married(May 12)Berengaria of Navarre.
Acre fell in July 1191, and on September 7, Richard s brilliant victory at Arsuf put the crusaders in
possession of Joppa. Twice Richard led his forces to within o few miles of Jerusalem. But the
recapture of the city, which constituted the chief aim of the Third Crusade, eluded him. There were
fierce quarrels among the French, German, and English contingents. Richard insulted Leopold V, duke
of Austria, by tearing down his banner and quarreled with Philip Augustus, who returned to France

Introduction. The Pilgrimage Of Faxian And Xuanzang To
Introduction
The pilgrimage of Faxian and Xuanzang to the India is an important event in the cultural exchange
between China and India because their experiences of pilgrimages have significant effects on not only
development of Buddhism in China as well as cultural exchange between China and India. Faxian and
Xuanzang actively participated in various Buddhist activities in India. Their travel experiences were
maintained in detailed records of their precious books, which are preservation of valuable historical
information such as Ancient Buddhism, geography and social customs in order to study India, Sri
Lanka, and other countries.

From this perspective, the pilgrimage to India is necessary. At the same time, the Buddhist scriptures
and discipline were incomplete and there were only a few of them. Monks acts in his own way without
law compliance at that time. These two reasons are there was a movement to seek the Buddhist
scriptures and discipline in India. And they are the motives of Faxian s pilgrimage to India.
On the other hand, the motivations of Xuanzang s pilgrimage to India are due to inspiration of Faxian
and mere and messy situation of Buddhist scriptures and discipline. It is no doubt that Faxian s
pilgrimage to India is successful. And his book Record of the Buddhist Kingdoms has more directly
inspired Xuanzang to obtain Buddhist scriptures and discipline. Another important reason for
Xuanzang s pilgrimage to India is the mere and messy situation of Buddhist scriptures and discipline.
Within the study of the theory of different Buddhist scriptures and discipline, there was more doubt
and confusion due to lack of sufficient Buddhist scriptures and discipline. Based on the introduction of
Buddhism situation in India, especially the Buddhist Center Nalanda which is the highest school of
Buddhism from one monk from India, Xuanzang determined his pilgrimage to India. Both two reasons
show that he has a purpose and will to pursue for his pilgrimage to India.

The Future of the Hoverboard
Research Question: Is it possible to make the hoverboard even more convenient by using extra wheels
and more inventions?
Problem and Application: The new invention of the hoverboard has amazed people and this self
balancing scooter is amusing. The hoverboard is a self balancing scooter that could be dangerous or
hard to use. I think that people want to make the it easier to use and more convenient. It is important to
make a new innovative hoverboard because the the original hoverboard causes many injuries and the
new invention will prevent those injuries. Secondly, there is a huge problem in hoverboard safety
issues because the internet has portrayed videos on people falling. The problem is more than
significant because people are being taken to the hospital and companies are not selling because of the
safety issues. It is more beneficial to have a safer design so there is no more injuries. A question that I
will have testing the innovative hoverboard design is if I should add extra wheels to my design. Also I
cannot touch the hoverboard s technology so I will have to find a way to make it safer to use.
However, the innovative self balancing scooter has some cons like blowning up across the globe and
its durability on roads. There is no gas involved with the hoverboard and is eco friendly. An average
hoverboard takes 3 4 hours to fully charge. It will help the

The Ever Growing Inmate Population and
Its Effects on the Prison System
Frankie Lorino Jr.
University of Troy Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to look at the prevalence of overcrowding in the United States prison
system, what led to its current conditions, and how it effects the its fundamental function. The
explanation of growth is suggested by Davey 1998 and Anderson 2000. Jacobson, 2005 outlines some
of the affairs leading to the change in prison functions. The dire state of conditions in prison facilities
is exemplified by McConville, 1987. Furthermore McConville also offers some possible resolutions to
the current problems. The Ever Growing Inmate Population and
Its Effects on the Prison System When thinking of the prison system in the United States, one fact that
may be shocking is that it ranks as one of the highest per capita inmate populations in the world. The
United States has seen an ever growing prison population over the last few decades. The results of
prison inmate inflation are causing more strains than facilities can handle. The increasing number of
inmates is a result of the reluctance to help rehabilitate inmates and develop their ability to function
and add value to society.
Increase in prison population through the years Consequences
The United States now locks up a higher percentage of its population than any country in the world
(Jacobson, 2005, p. 8). Prison populations across the United States are increasing at a faster

The Impact Of Immigration On The United States Essay
Many People can speculate if the U.S. Mexican border is truly a significant factor for our government
s safety or just there wasting money, time and land. By allowing the government to fund the border
many improvements could be made. Border Safety, can create a safer border environment by facing
the multiple Issues and Challenges, like illegal Immigration, Drug Enforcement, and cross border
Transportation, and Technological improvements by Homeland security influence the agents, trying to
cease these issues. A vast complication that the United States goes through is the huge illegal
immigration.
Each year thousands of illegal immigrants enter the United States across the U.S. Mexican border. The
result is that the congress has mandated increased efforts, as improved technology, to facilitate border
processing of illegal entries and prevent or deter illegal crossing. A major draw for the illegal
immigration is the job opportunities that the United States provides. What is the nature and extent of
increasing immigration on the border? Most Mexicans who want to be a part of the United States must
present documents to the INS inspectors at ports of entry along the border. Of the 915,000 people who
were granted there residency, about 15 percent were Mexicans. According to a Brookings institution
study, an unknown number of Mexicans, mostly like 1 million, cross over to the United States to work
for a short period of time and then later return to their homes. The INS has

Hamadryas Baboons Essay
The complex world of primates revolves around a spectrum of different behaviors and physical
features that can be intertwined with their evolutionary history and current ecosystem. Two species of
baboons that share a common ancestor dating back twenty million years ago are Papio hamadryas and
Theropithecus gelada (Falk, 173). More commonly called as hamadryas baboons and geladas, they are
known to share many characteristics because of this common lineage. In fact, they are categorized
under the same order of classification, down to the same subfamily of primates, known as
cercopithecidae. Despite sharing a common subfamily, these two species of baboons manage to
encompass divergent qualities in response to their environment.
Evolution has played a monumental role in regards to the similarities and differences between geladas
and hamadryas baboons. Moreover, many traits have been retained within the same subfamily.
However, it can also be said that certain behaviors and features diverged from the family tree. These ...

For instance, the reason for the aggressive behavior of male leaders in hamadryas is mainly due to
reproductive fitness, however predation risk can also play a part. OMU male leaders condition the
females through force to stay in close proximity to prevent other males from mating with her.
However, since their habitat lacks in track coverage, it places them in a vulnerable state from
predators. Females in closer proximity to the male leader have a higher chance of being protected in
the event a predator attacks. Therefore, this increases her survival rate because male leaders are the
only members to engage in combat. As for geladas, they follow the cercopithicine model of
dominance. Males do not exhibit aggressive behavior because high grasslands have sufficient
coverage from predators, especially from birds of

European Citizenship
1. Summary
There have been a lot of contributions by scholars to the widely discussed topic of European
citizenship. In his article Espen D.H. Olsen argues in contrast to many others, that the Maastricht
Treaty was not year zero in the EU citizenship discourse (Olsen 2008, p. 40). His study deals with the
time before the general discussion over the European citizenship started in the 1970s (cf. ibid, p. 41ff.)
The article s main finding states that European citizenship has been in existence from the European
integration s starting point, the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). Olsen defines his
concept of citizenship as a status of individuals in relation to a political unit (ibid, p. 41) which he
divides in the four dimensions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
53). That is clearly contradicting to his own finding before and generally seems to be too big of a
stretching of his concept. He merely speculates about the status of membership in that case. It can also
be argued that the coal and steel workers were of course included in the wording of the contract,
because it was their industries that were being integrated. But an equivalence of the coal and steel
workers to European Citizens on such thin arguments is rather far fetched.
Secondly, during applying the membership dimension on the Rome Treaties, Olsen again confuses
workers and producers as members or citizens, although he himself, as before, states that the
prevailing image is one of a focus on individuals as workers and producers (ibid, p. 47). So by
wrongly applying the membership dimension, Olsen again disproves his own argument.
Thirdly, Olsen analyses preambles of the aforementioned treaties and documents on several occasions.
Unfortunately he only derives speculations and conjectures out them. E.g. the preamble of the free
movement Regulation 1612/68 states that the freedom of movement constitutes a fundamental right of
workers and their families as well as it gives a guarantee for the possibility of improving [the worker
s] living and working conditions and promoting his social advancement (ibid, p. 50). The author
immediately jumps to the conclusion that this is somehow a kind of membership that even relates

My Fair Lady Analysis
My Fair Lady is a 1964 American musical based off of a play called, Pygmalion by George Bernard
Shaw. Eliza Doolittle, who lives in London, is not very educated and does not speak very good
English. Professor Henry Higgins meets Eliza in a subway and proclaims that he could teach her how
to speak properly. Eliza agrees to let him teach her and she is taken to his home and is taught how to
be proper and if she convinced Queen Victoria that she belonged in the higher class then in return
Professor Higgins would reward her with chocolates. Professor Higgins teaches Eliza how to speak
proper English by helping her with her pronunciation of several different phrases that would teach her
how to speak properly so that no one would know that she was not actually from a high class family.
She goes on to perfect her speaking so that she could attend me the derby for her first test. She does
well but at the end she gets involved with the race and she ruins her cover and exposes herself. She
goes on to continue working hard to perfect high class tendencies. She, along with Professor Higgins,
later attend the ball for her final test. She dances and talks amongst the other guests and no one seems
to see past Eliza s act. She convinces everyone except for Colonel Pickering, who insists that she is an
imposter. Eliza carries on as if she is who she is perceiving to be. She returns home with Professor
Higgins and they all have a laugh about what had happened at the ball except for Eliza

Richard III Hero Or Villain Essay
The play Richard III by William Shakespeare involves a character who acts as a protagonist and
antagonist. This character is Richard III, who also happens to be the main character is the play. King
Richard is such a profound character because he s able to play both roles very well. With that being
said, Richard III is seen as protagonist and a villain for many reasons. He is seen as the protagonist of
the play because he dominates the play so much that we can t help but to like him, his monologues are
very calculated and others made fun of him for his appearance which creates sympathy. He is seen as
the villain of the play because he s the reason all the bad things happen to him, he declares himself a

The monologue that takes place in Act1 Scene 1 is what characterizes Richard III as the protagonist.
In this monologue he makes a calculated declaration. Within this monologue Richard is simply able to

Descriptive Essay About The Cemetery
The cemetery I chose to visit and explore was the Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. On the way to

all I could see were miles and miles of headstones. It was eerie to say the least. As a kid, whenever my
family would drive by a cemetery, my siblings and I would hold our breath until we passed so as to
not breathe in the wandering, lost souls. Actually going into a cemetery to look around seemed
counterintuitive, I wasn t sure if I would be able to hold my breath for that long. It didn t help that

see all the lives lost, especially those who lost their lives before they even really began. However, to
my surprise, as I made my way through the graveyard this feeling of sadness slipped away. The sun
began to shine through the clouds of gray and illuminated both the cemetery and my mood. I was
delighted to notice that many of the tombstones I encountered read that these lives that were lost were
not taken too soon. Most of the people had lived over eighty years and were buried next to fellow
family members who also lived just as long. It was nice to see that many people were laid to rest next

Poe was fascinated by the mystical and the unknown. He was also interested in the human
subconscious and why a human being react in a certain way at a certain time. His stories are often
about dark castles and castle ruins which often have secrets buried deep down in the walls where they
have been for centuries. Most likely in a moonlit desert landscape. Magical experiments and hypnosis
play a big part in Poe s works. Many people thinks that Edgar Allan Poe was one of the first detective
story writer with the short story quot; The murders in the Rue morgue quot;, where the detective
Monsieur Dupin solves a strange homicide case where a giant monkey is the murderer. This short
story is a bit different because there is for example a three page laying out about algae and mosses in
the story.
Poe had a rhythmic and floating language in his texts and to show this, I have a couple of excerpts
from the poem quot; The Raven quot;. There are also examples of the mystical that often is found in
Poe s productions. The poem is written in four

The Raven

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi And Ho Chi Minh

How Selection On Behavior Shapes Brain Investment
Understanding how selection on behavior shapes brain investment is a major question in the analysis
of the evolution of animal sociality [Szathmary and Maynard Smith, 1995; Edelman and Changeux,
2001; Ricklefs, 2004; Gronenberg and Riveros, 2009]. Neural tissue is energetically expensive and
therefore brain regions should only enlarge when needed to meet functional demands [Niven and
Laughlin, 2008]. The social brain hypothesis posits that social interactions are so cognitively
demanding that social environment selects for enhanced neural development [Humphrey, 1976;
Dunbar and Shultz, 2007]. Studies supporting the social brain hypothesis usually rely on comparative
analyses across taxa with varying levels of social complexity and use ... Show more content on

To date only two brain investment studies on solitary and facultatively social bees are reported. A
study on solitary bees, Osmia lignaria found that adults emerge with neuronal development typical of
experienced workers in advanced eusocial insect species, but also found that mushroom body neuropil
volume further increased with foraging experience [Withers et al., 2007]. These results confirm that
mushroom bodies are important for cognitive processes in solitary antecedents, but cannot inform us
on the role of social experience on neuropil investment. Smith et al. [2010] examined brain size and
development using the facultatively social bee Megalopta genalis, a species with both solitary and
primitively social colonies in the same populations. Mushroom body size increased with foraging
behavior in solitary individuals and workers compared to newly emerged M. genalis females, but even
greater mushroom body development was found in queens. Smith et al. [2010] attributed enhanced

Social Media and Collaboration
If we look back to the time times of the Dark Ages in Europe, cultural progression was stunted by
deadly diseases and economic disarray across the continent. It wasn t until the Renaissance, a golden
age of rebuilding in Europe, that ideas of change and and prosperity began to flourish. This period of
time saw huge advancements in science, art, and literature across the world. Today, hundreds of years
later, we are currently in a golden age led by social media. Names like Facebook, Instagram, and
Twitter are the socio economic leaders of modern times, helping to leading the charge of change. As a
result, social media as a whole is a beneficial tool for human communication and collaboration. In the
21st century, distance is no longer a limitation of communication with family or friends. Social media
can turn a thousand miles into a single click. In fact, today the lines are clearly blurred because our
online worlds [have become] an extension of our offline lives (Pell). It is now possible to speak with
entire networks of close friends much faster than we ve ever been able to before (Brandzel). Sharing
pictures of a vacation in the Bahamas, speaking with potential business partners in China, or meeting a
new date in town, it s all possible now with social media. People s words and thoughts are limited only
to the speed of light traveling around Earth. Beyond its use just to communicate, the true potential of
social media shines with its ability to allow collaboration.

The Effects Of Technology On Human Health
Le Tran Professor: M. Scott Carter English1213 MC03F 9 December, 2015 Negative Effects of
Technology on Human Health In recent years, technology has been on a continuous rise. It has
become an integral part of the lives of countless individuals. From laptops to mobile phones, various
devices have their daily use in the daily affairs of people, whether the average citizen or famous
personalities. For the most part, technology has its benefits. Students now have easy and quick access
to multiple sources of information within the click of a button or the touch of a screen regardless of
location. Friends and family may now communicate across vast distances in real time. Also, people
may use their mobile devices to entertain themselves, especially in terms of watching videos on
demand and playing virtual games. There are many other examples. However, technology also has its
disadvantages. In sum, technology has the potential to cause negative effects on human health. Unless
properly addressed, many people are at risk of experiencing negative health consequences due to the
constant use of many technological devices today. For example, they can cause sleep deprivation or
people spent too much time for mobile instead of taking a rest. They can make limit posture while
using them. In addition, people can make nearly sight eyes, hurt in neck or back. The most important
thing is the radiation from the modern technology devices that we do not really know exactly what
disease it happen

Ordinary People Participate In The Holocaust
The Holocaust was a terrible event that started January 30, 1933 and ended May 8, 1945. It was
twelve years of torture and suffering that the Jewish people went through. Many people help this
awful event happen like bystanders, perpetrators, and people who was influenced by Nazi ideology.
Our big question is How was the Holocaust humanly possible? How can we explain why ordinary
people participated in the mass murder of millions of innocent men, women, and children?
Bystanders were just helping Hitler by getting amused that he makin Jews do things that would get
people s attention. They were bystanders because they watch the Jews getting humiliated in public.
Some Jews were to do awful things like to clean the streets or to do rude things towards other Jewish
people but the germans that was near by were laughing or enjoying their time. This show that Jews are

2.6 The impacts of the Civil War on forest management in Liberia
The fourteen years of civil war in Liberia results in a class of marginalized young people who
currently lack trust in their government or any kind of institutions for that matter (Richards, Archibald,
Bruce et al., 2005). These young people, who make up more than half of the population in the country,
believe that the administrative justice has failed them. As a result, these young people preferred to take
chances with various rebel groups during the civil war (2005). In order to erase these beliefs, a study
suggested that a new peacebuilding approach is necessary. This new approach, authors argue, is an
inclusive Community driven Development (CDD). Richards and his colleagues (2005) also argue that
this process is capable of playing a crucial role in shaping different kinds of societies, provided those
societies incorporate marginalized and socially excluded populations in the rebuilding process. This
new approach calls for equal participation of all interested parties in the distribution and management
of states natural resources. No study reinforces this better than chapter nine of Colfer Byron

How Far Do You Agree That Hitler’s Regime Was a ‘Consensus...
How far do you agree that Hitler s Regime was a consensus dictatorship ? A consensus dictatorship is
on that suggests Hitler s regime was surrounded by a general agreement. This would mean that the
majority of the German public were in cooperation with the Nazi regime and agreed with both the
enforced and promoted concept of the regime. Hitler had mainly achieved this by trying to win over
the hearts and minds of all non Jewish Germans this would mean he would have the majority of the
Germans citizens on his side. However, it is also suggested that many of the people had only
consented due to fear which can be inferred from source 5 that it was the methods of the Nazi
apparatus of terror that had led to the people conforming. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The public voluntarily had given in the names of Jews to the Nazis due to jealousy and terror imposed
on them by the Nazi s which suggests that the terror apparatus used on civilians was effective and the
public were forced to conform to the dictatorship but overall most people acted towards their own
benefit and the countless denunciations which included false accusations indicate that the regime was
a consensus dictatorship. On the other hand, the opposition faced by the Nazi regime is evidence that
the Nazi Regime was not a consented one. In Source 5 it mentions the political opponents being
detained in the concentration camps but even with this sort of mass terror of demolishing the left there
was signs of opposition against the regime. The fact that there were low level resistance jokes around
shows the Nazis were unpopular. People were trying to pick holes in the system rather than just accept
it. People were trying to spread the word. This also indicated the fear people had of Hitler and it was
this fear that forced the people to conform. The Church although having an agreement with Hitler
called the concordat had stood against the regime a number of times. For example, Bishop von Galen
of Munster had stood against the euthanasia programmes. There was also opposition from the youth,
an example the swing kids, they expressed their individuality by wearing their hair long and listened
to jazz. But most opposition and resistance was only involved

Both formative and summative assessments were given for students through the group activity of

The questions that I asked myself while watching this lesson was where could I insert questions while
reading to students and where would I change instruction for a better assessment of student abilities.
While watching the teacher read to students there was little questions asked during reading, but at the
end, they make a prediction quickly and then check the prediction with the end of the book. I would
have asked more prediction questions throughout the book and also given students more time to think
about the story and how it differs from a version they have heard before.
For the beginning letter assessment sheet at the end, I would have included in the instruction to use
lower case letters for all things that are not proper nouns, and then do a quick review of what words
should get an upper case letter. I also would have taken time with students to go over any possible
confusion they might have with pictures or letters, by working briefly with them to check their work.
Often times, students get the chance to go back and recheck their work, and this is a good skill to
foster in

1. Discuss the impact of photography on the nineteenth century landscape. How did it affect painting?
What were the political implications of the medium? Use examples to support your essay.
Landscape painting was a particularly effective vehicle for allegory because it allowed artists to make
fictional subjects appear normal, conditioned, acceptable, or destined. Art was not just about the
landscape, it actually allowed the spirit of the painter to come alive in their work. The allegory was for
moral and spiritual concerns. The introduction to photography therefore impacted 19th century
landscape in a manner that was found to be unacceptable because personal intertwinement of
expression and emotion could not come from photography. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Middle Age Endurance
Carter, Jennifer , M.Ed. Developmental Psychology 5 July 2015 Humanity s Middle Age Endurance
Middle age is the term used to describe the time in an adult s life between the ages of 45 and 65. More
importantly, middle age is an adult developmental stage. It is a time in which the adult body, and mind
go through a series of changes physiologically, mentally, and emotionally. During their middle age
years, adults will exhibit signs of aging such as hair loss, gray hair, and skin losing its elasticity.
Middle age is also characterized by weight gain, and loss of physical strength. Navigating this time

The impact middle age has on healthy living cannot be underestimated. In a presentation on Physical
Development in Middle Adulthood, Isaac Nathan lists six effects of cultural differences on healthy
living during middle age; isolation, poverty, cultures in which men are the dominant sex, religion,
language, and cultural habits, (2013). Again, middle age is not biased toward men or women, and does
not favor one culture over another. Middle aged adults who find themselves caring for aging parents,

Theme Of Morality In Trifles
Ethics and morals are two different things although quite similar. Ethics relate to the essence of right
and wrong according to the law. This is exhibited in the pre meditated murder that we see in the play
Trifles. Morals are related to personal standards. What may be morally right for one person may not be
morally right for another person. Morals are based on a person s upbringing, their religion, and their
personal beliefs. In Trifles, Sweat, and The Storm, Susan Glaspell, Zora Neal Hurston, and Kate
Chopin use symbolism to show, develop, and illustrate the theme of ethics versus morals. Susan
Glaspell uses the bird to justify the murder of Mr. Wright in Trifles. Within the play there is a broken
bird cage. This cage is symbolic of Minnie Wright s marriage. She lives in the middle of nowhere with
John. This isolation breaks Minnie Wright s spirit, just like the cage is broken. In the story it says, She
used to sing real pretty herself (986). Since Minnie is out in the country with no one but John, that bird
is her lifeline to the outside world. She lives through that bird. John s oppression of Minnie, and the
fact that he cold heartedly killed her bird takes away her desire to sing, or dance, or dress pretty.
Arthur Waterman states She was figuratively strangled by John (3). In turn, Minnie literally strangles
John with a rope in his sleep. The women don t always find this action morally or ethically right. Mrs.
Peters, in the beginning, said But, Mrs. Hale, the law is the law (Glaspell 984). After finding out about
the bird, and pondering the situation among themselves, the women all agree with Minnie Wright. It
was justifiable homicide in their eyes, thus making it ethically and morally right in their eyes. Hurston
s Sweat uses the snake as symbolism, and to justify Delia s actions after Sykes is bitten. In the story,
Delia is a faithful Christian woman who is married to a devil like man named Sykes. Hurston
associates the snake to Sykes. The snake symbolizes Sykes representation of the Devil. Sykes knows
that Delia is scared of snakes. Delia tells Sykes, You know how skeered Ah is of snakes. Course Ah
Knowed it (1). Sykes not only torments Delia, he also cheats on her openly. Sykes does

place. Being known as a welcoming place is part of someone s identity. The American identity is still

The identity has not been degraded by any new culture or tradition. The American identity is still alive
because America is known for being a place that is ruled by the people and has made a dream for
everybody. Additionally, America is also known for being a free place. It is known that everyone must
be treated equally and have their own rights. For example, part of the American identity is being
known for practicing democracy. People being free, having their rights protected, and having equal
treatment is what makes up the American identity. Those three factors are still going on meaning that
the American identity is still alive and nothing has changed it at all. Another reason why the American
identity is still alive because part of someone s identity is again being know for something or
influencing something. Another example, is that many people have immigrated to the United States

Jefferson s Expedition On The Louisiana Territory
The Louisiana Purchase
While Thomas Jefferson was president, France and Spain secretly signed a treaty which returned
ownership of the Louisiana Territory, back to France. When word reached Jefferson, the entire state of
Washington erupted, because of the fact that the United States had spent thousands of dollars, in food
goods, and shipped them into New Orleans located in the Louisiana Territory.
Jefferson urged and instructed James Monroe and Robert Livingston, to offer $10 million to
Napoleon, the French militia commander and chief of France, in an attempt to purchase New Orleans
from France. However, due to financial bankruptcy and on the verge of war with Britain, Napoleon
offered a proposition to Jefferson, offering all of the Louisiana ... Show more content on

The president and congress authorized for army officers Meriwether Lewis, Jefferson s personal
secretary, and William Clark, to head an expedition. Lewis and Clark would need a guide, someone
who knew the lands and one who could bring them home safely.
While visiting an Indian village near modern day Bismarck in North Dakota, Lewis and Clark s
expedition crossed paths with a young Indian woman named Sacajawea, Who had been kidnapped
from her home land plantation called the Shoshones, in the Western Territory. Lewis and Clark offered
Sacajawea and her husband to join their expedition as their guide, and to gain friendships with the
different Indian tribes; she saw it as an opportunity to see her people once again, and accepted.
May 14, 1804, finally the expedition, with approximately fifty companions, departed from St. Louis.
The party followed the Missouri River, through Dakota, Montana, and over the Rocky Mountains. By
December 1805, they had travelled the Colombia River and reached the Pacific Sea. Lewis and Clark
saw wonders that no other American had seen before. On their journey home Sacajawea and her
husband stayed, to live at the Shoshones

Summary Of Murnau s The Last Laugh
Friedrich Willhelm (F.W.) Murnau s The Last Laugh (1924) holds a special place within silent film
(Bordwell 2016). It is the film that made Murnau popular with American audiences, and in turn, its
success lead him to move to Hollywood and eventually make masterpieces (not to say that The Last
Laugh itself isn t a masterpiece), such as Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927). Both films evoke
the surreality of life, but unlike the celebratory Sunrise¸ The Last Laugh laments life s predestined
nature. Murnau dramatizes this lamentation through the contrast of the real with the fanciful and
through his use of doors.
From the first shot, The Last Laugh manages to be both hyper realistic and utterly whimsical. We are
whisked down the elevator and out the constantly revolving door into a city, that while appearing to be
real at first, is just a painted backdrop. But Murnau spares no expense to fool the audience; he even
has figures moving inside the painted towers, which to the untrained eye cause the towers to seem
real. Alas, the towers are fake, but these moving figures serve a larger purpose than just to be a tool to
suspend the audience s belief. They add to the busy aesthetic of the The Last Laugh. The world
Murnau has created is a hectic one where One day you are preeminent, respected by all, as the
opening title announces, and the next you are a nobody, and before you know it, life has passed you
by. This is the case for our unnamed protagonist (Emil Jannings) who is now

How Did Sumer Affect Society
Ancient Sumer is considered one of the oldest, if not the first civilization known to man. Thought to
be over 7000 years old by some historians, the ancient civilization of Sumer is truly one of a kind.
Being such an old group of people, was Sumer able to advance its own culture and society in such an
ancient time? Has Sumer affected modern society as we know it today? To begin, the inventions of
ancient Sumer truly had an effect on both their society and us today. The wheel, although seen as such
a simple tool today, was revolutionary at the time of its creation. Historians say that the wheel was
first created to serve as potter s wheels around 3500 B.C. in Mesopotamia 300 years before someone
figured out to use them for chariots (Gambino). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Originally lead by priests, religious leaders in Sumer had incredible power. They ruled their city state,
and handled most issues within it. But over time, Sumers priests were overtaken by new leaders kings.
Instead of being directly connected to the gods like a priest, kings were leaders chosen by the gods to
rule over an area, like a god s agent. These kings wrote down codes of law, the oldest written law
documents known. These spoke of the daily justice system, from thievery to murder to divorce. This
idea of government continued for a long time, with monarchies ruling the lands, until the Greeks
created the democracy. This eventually lead to dictatorships and even ideas such as an oligarchy. This
idea of government allowed for Sumer and other civilizations to have social structure and justice,
which is needed for the success of a country. With this, Sumer was able to grow into a great power. In
the modern world, many types of governments exist around the world, keeping order in their own
respective areas. Our countries could not exist without the original idea of monarchy, as Sumer

Essay on The Human Genome Project
Embedded deeply in our body is the complex biological story. The Human Genome Project is the
exploration of this intricate yet crucial storyline. The Genome is a complete set of genes that make up
an organism. Genes are made up of DNA (deoxynucleic acid) which subsequently is made up of long
paired strands. These paired strands attach in a specific manner, for example, Adenine (A) attaches
itself to Thymine (T) and Cytosine(C) to Guanine (G). The genome is the perplexing key in
instructing cells to do their duty. Cells interact together to create tissues. Tissues connect together to
create organs. Organs function together to produce an organism.
The first fully completed human genome was completed and publish on April 2003. This took ... Show

Scientists then take pictures of each snippet of the genome. By have a vivid illusion of the order of the
colors can allow us to read the sequence. This is then stitched together using computer programs to
have the final copy of the fully sequenced genome. There are many other methods out there to
decipher the genome but this is the most common method of usage.this method can also be known as
the Polymerase Chain reaction (PCR). PCR is a laboratory technique that uses primers to amplify a
specific area and then copies the sequence a billion times over. Another method worth mentioning is
the combined use of Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP) and Gel Electrophoresis.
RFLP is when restriction enzymes are used as markers which cut DNA in specific known locations.
This samples derived from RFLP are then run through the Gel Electrophoresis which can configure
these macromolecules by separating them. There is also the Yeast Artificial Chromosomes (YAC)
which is human engineered DNA molecule used to clone DNA sequences in yeast cells.Another one
similar to the YAC is the Bacterial Artificial Chromosome (BAC) which instead of the yeast cells use
bacterial cells.
The ultimate goal of the HGP is to provide an encyclopedia of detailed information of the location,
structure and function of the complete set of human genes. The HGP also loyally supports and
sponsors genome studies on other organisms

Tough Love in Mel Gibson s Hamlet and Branagh s Hamlet Essay
Tough Love in Mel Gibson s Hamlet and Branagh s Hamlet
One of the most emotional and moving scenes in William Shakespeare s tragedy Hamlet is in Act III,
Scene I lines 90 155 in which the title character becomes somewhat abusive toward his once loved
girlfriend Ophelia. It is interesting to examine the possible motives behind Hamlet s blatant harshness
in this Get the to a nunnery scene toward the easily manipulated and mild mannered girl. While
watching Kenneth Branagh and Mel Gibson s film adaptations of the play, the audience may recognize
two possibilities of the many that may exist which may explain the Prince s contemptible behavior;
Kenneth Branaugh seems to suggest that this display of animosity will help the troubled ... Show more

Other than the amusing fishmonger and words, words, words scene, a more serious approach to
conveying this insanity could be taken; Hamlet s scurrilous behavior toward the fair Ophelia could be
taken as a sure sign of craziness, for Polonius is quite positive that Hamlet is deeply in love with his
daughter. By mistreating Ophelia, perchance Hamlet can trick Polonius into believing that he has gone
mad; Hamlet s display of hostility to a person he is thought to have cared deeply about may promote
the idea that he is not the same person as he always was. Although it can not necessarily be proven, it
appears that in the Hall of Mirrors Hamlet is aware that Claudius and Polonius are spying. He takes
Ophelia roughly and pushes her face into the mirror, only inches from her father. This act seems to be
directly aimed to the men hiding behind the door, not Ophelia.
From the beginning of Mel Gibson s Hamlet, the audience recognizes that the Prince is more subdued
and introspective than in Branagh s version. Though this Hamlet is still angry with his mother, he
seems more reluctant to express any disappointment in her direction. In the very first scene of the film,
Gertrude asks Hamlet to stay in Denmark, and he consents in an immediate and submissive fashion.
He then proceeds to drop to his knees and hug her about the waist. Gibson seems much more boyish
and timid, but it is still safe to assume that he

The Nature Of The Poetry Of Percy Shelley s Mutability
Shelley Percy is one of the most highly regarded Romantic poets of the 19th century. Many of Shelley
s poem tell about the nature of the human condition. In many of his poems Shelley use elements of
nature (seashells, the wind, the ocean, etc.) to discuss truths about the human condition. Percy Shelley
examines the one consistent characteristic of being human in his poem Mutability . In his poem
Mutability Shelley shows the fragility and unpredictability of the human condition.
The poem opens with the speaker comparing humans to clouds that veil the midnight moon (Line 1).
The clouds move radiantly across the sky and cover the light of the moon. The words speed , gleam ,
quiver and streaking personify the cloud image. Shelley describes the cloud s actions as a metaphor
for human actions, How restlessly they speed, and gleam, and quiver, / streaking the darkness
radiantly! (Lines 2 3). He believes that humans go through life with speed, not taking time to rest; like
clouds at night, we do not last forever. Shelley s use of the word of veil instead of covers creates a
sense of purposefully hidden light. In lines three to four of the poem the wondrous sight is eventually
extinguished by the darkness, yet soon/ Night closes round, and they are lost forever. By using this
image of the night Shelley shows the cycle of change and demonstrates human morality. The speaker
is pointing out that humans have short lives on Earth and regardless of how radiantly we may shine,
we are like clouds at night that are overshadowed.
In the second stanza Shelley describes the frailty of human existence. In lines five through nine
humans are describes as forgotten lyres, whose dissonant strings/ Give various response to each
varying blast,/ To whose frail frame no second motion brings/ One mood or modulation like the last.
Shelley uses this as a metaphor that expands on the concept of human morality. In this stanza humans
are compared to forgotten lyres saying that we will be forgotten when we are dead and gone. The
different moods of the stanza are created by the different sounds of the lyre. Humans are being
compared to instruments with beautifully melodies have been forgotten. Shelley is saying that once

The Classical Utilitarianism Line Combined With Rational...
There are some questions in this life we will ask and never receive an answer to. Not because the
questioned simply does not want to answer but perhaps because they cannot answer. This theory falls
into the classical utilitarianism line combined with rational choice theory (Barkan p. 93). In
researching Edward Theodore Gein, I discovered this is one of those cases where Why never came to
pass and he took to his own grave those unanswered questions. Did these acts of crime and necrophilia
arise from the clear dysfunctional home life and upbringing or was Ed Gein simply a psychopath?
How he came to be. Born on August 27, 1906 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to George Philip and Augusta
Gein; Ed was the second of two sons. Gein was raised in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One must ask how much hereditary influence from his mother was a factor in Geins rational choice
theory. Nature versus the lack of nurture in the upbringing of Ed Gein and his brother. Nonetheless,
offenders still make decisions that appear rational to them at the time they make them (Barkan, p. 96).
Theory Analysis
Ed Gein deeply desired to please his mother above all else. Augusta Gein an archaic Lutheran
controlled her sons to the extreme. Ed did attend public school however he was an outcast and often
bullied by other students. Despite the mistreatment, he managed to do well in and enjoyed school.
When Ed tried to socialize at school this did not please his mother and anytime Ed tried to make
friends, his mother scolded him. The isolation from any other outside influences could not have been
healthy and added to his insecurities in an everyday social lifestyle. Gein was often described as a
loner, awkward and aloof. Augusta read to both her sons daily from the Old Testament Bible from
scripture usually graphic in nature with versus dealing with death, murder and divine retribution. Gein
tried to make his mother happy but his efforts were usually met with harsh criticism and she was
rarely pleased with her sons. She often scolded them and verbally abused them by telling them they
were going to end up disappointments like their father (Woods, 1995).
As Sigmund Freud believed that some people with unresolved deep seated problems are psychopaths.

Examples Of Gender Inequality In Antigone
Gender inequality is still common today for women as it was in the 1900s when they weren t allowed
to vote. Although today s women have gained more rights but they still face pay inequality compared
to men. Antigone is a fictional story which the author conveys a message of the mistreatment of
women had to faced in ancient Greece. The play of Antigone is written by Sophocles who spoke of a
young girl named Antigone who disobeyed her uncle s wishes for burying her dead traitorous brother.
She gave up her life with her righteous and courageous actions for her brother. The play talked about a
woman s place in society where they are powerless against those who have high authority, where they

Creon is instructing his son, Haemon that his wife, Antigone is an ill tempered woman, Your pleasure
with her would soon grow cold, Haemon, And then you d have a hellcat in bed and elsewhere. Let her

Hameon s wife by telling him that she will soon become a violent wife. Through the criticism that
Antigone had received, Creon s view of women summarized that women are nothing but pleasure to
men. Greek society pictured women to be used for pleasure and should be throw away if they are not
satisfying their mate. Creon have also insulted of how Antigone is like a horse, She has much to learn.
The inflexible heart breaks first, the toughest iron Cracks first, and the wildest horses bend their necks.
At the pull of the smallest curb. Pride? In a slave? (Sophocles 1343). Once again, Creon insulted
Antigone of how she need to learn a lot more, and she is like a wild horse. Her uncle compared her to
a horse which proved of how he thinks of her as a wild horse who needs to be tamed. Greek women in
the society is supposed to be loyal and obey the men. In Greek society, women are suppose to be loyal
to men which they makes them inferior to

Character Analysis Of A Child Called It By David Pelzer
Character Essay David Pelzer, the main (and perhaps only) protagonist, has struggled with a lot
throughout the book I read. The story is mainly about Dave s determination to withstand his abusive,
alcoholic mother, who will, without a second thought, beat him if he doesn t get his chores done. Even
if he does get all of his chores done, he is starved and forced to sleep on an old army cot in his
basement while his family lives in the luxury of the upstairs section of the house. The writer, Dave
Pelzer, changed the names of his family to keep their anonymity, which was nice of him due to what
goes on in his story. This essay is about a book called A Child Called It. It was never mentioned what
Dave actually looked like, but you can infer his appearance just by he tells how he lives his life. He is
definitely a very skinny boy due to being starved by his mother. He mentions that during his early
school years, he had been practicing running to school so he d be fast enough to snag some food from
the grocery store before his class started. On the cover of the book, it shows a picture of what might be
him. If it is, then it shows that he has pale skin, chocolate brown hair that falls into his face along with
beaming, lively, azure eyes. It is said that his mother rarely ever washed his clothes or bought him new
ones, so it is evident that his apparel would likely be torn and tattered. His age changes throughout the
book it tells his story from ages four to twelve. There

  • 2. Concept Analysis Of Pain And Pain Concept Analysis of Pain The most common reason that people seek medical care is pain, and pain is the leading cause of disability (Peterson Bredow, 2013, p. 51; National Institute of Health, 2010). Pain is such an important topic in healthcare that the United States congress identified 2000 to 2010 as the Decade of Pain Control and Research (Brunner L. S., et al., 2010, p. 231). Unfortunatelly, patients are reporting a small increase in satisfaction with the pain management while in the hospital (Bernhofer, 2011). Pain assessment and treatment can be complex since nurses do not have a tool to quantify it. Pain is considered the fifth vital sign, however, we do not have numbers to guide our interventions. Pain is a subjective expirience that cannot be shared easily. Since nurses spend more time with patients in pain than any other healthcare provider, nurses must have a clear understanding of the concept of pain (Brunner, et al., 2010). Concept analysis main objective is to clarify ideas, to enhance critical thinking, and to promote communication (Rodgers Knafl, 2000). This paper will examine the concept of pain using Wilson s Steps of Concept Analysis (Rodgers Knafl, 2000). Concept analysis are particularly helpful in explaining ambiguous concepts (Rodgers Knafl, 2000). Pain is defined in multiple ways. Also, pain has is associated with a lot of misconceptions. This concept analysis objective is to bring clarity and to provide a deeper understanding of pain. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It also offers feeding and exercising, as well as washing, grooming and low level veterinary services. The location will be a large lot on the outskirts of a high income residential area. Our projections include a heavy rent because of the location requirements. Customers pay by the day, by the hour, or by the month. Our assumption is that the average customer generates about Php. 50,000.00 per month. Market Analysis Summary The market for Pawsitive Pet grooming is all of the dog owners in the metropolitan area and surrounding areas of the city. We believe that this is going to be 2/3 of the population, and we have a goal of gaining a 50% market share. • 4. The Inequality Of Latin America In the 1500s, Spanish and Portuguese colonizers imposed their language, their religion, and their social institutions on the indigenous Americans and enslaved Africans, people who labored for them in mines and fields and who served them, too, at table and in bed (Chasteen 5). Many people would say this is where inequality in Latin America began, with colonization. However, colonization is just a small piece of the roots of inequality of the region, which actually started with the natives of the lands such as the Incas, Aztecs and Mayans. These three empires ruled most of the Latin American region and did so by conquering other native groups or tribes. The Empires had a ruling class or king that was able to oppress and work his people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Peninsulars received the land and the control over the government?, which caused issues with the next class, the Creoles. Creoles were people of Spanish decent born in Latin America. Despite the slight distinction between the two, they did not receive the same land and power as the Peninsulars because of their birthplace, which caused resentment and later sparked revolution. Next were the Mestizos, who were of European and indigenous American decent. The more the different ethnicities mixed, the more class distinctions were created. Because they introduced foreign diseases, the Europeans and Africans eventually replaced the indigenous Americans and brought about the potential for rich diversity. Social class typically ranged from the most European being the best off to the most indigenous or African being the poorest. The original sin of Latin American history the festering social injustice at the core had done its durable damage (Chasteen 42). In addition, the social and political systems created by the Peninsulars were intended to serve their home country, only making matters worse. Once Spanish and Portuguese established rule in the New World, they began to economically take advantage of the indigenous people and the new resources. The Spanish Crown implemented a tax called the royal fifth to get money from the mining in Latin America, and to collect the tax they had to organize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. King Richard Essay King Richard My report is on Richard I, byname Richard the Lion Hearted. He was born September 8, 1157 in Oxford, England. He died on April 6, 1199 in Chalus, England. His knightly manner and his prowess in the Third Crusade(1189 92) made him a popular king in his own time, as well as the hero of countless romantic legends. He has been viewed less kindly by more recent historians and scholars. Richard was the third son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, and he was given the duchy of Aquitaine, his mother s inheritance, at the age of 11 and was enthroned as duke at Poitiers in 1172. Richard found the Sicilians hostile, and took Messina by storm(October 4). To prevent the German Emperor Henry VI from ruling their country, the Sicilians had elected the native, Tancred of Lecce, who had imprisoned the late king s wife, Joan of England(Richard s sister), and denied her possession of her dower. By the Treaty of Messina, Richard obtained for Joan her release and her dower, acknowledged Tancred as king of Sicily, declared Arthur of Brittany(Richard s nephew)to be his own heir, and provided for Arthur to marry Tancred s daughter. This treaty infuriated the Germans, who were also taking part in the Third Crusade, and it incited Richard s brother, John, to treachery and rebellion. Richard joined the other crusaders at Acre on June 8, 1191, conquered Cyprus on his way there. While at Limassol in Cyprus, Richard married(May 12)Berengaria of Navarre. Acre fell in July 1191, and on September 7, Richard s brilliant victory at Arsuf put the crusaders in possession of Joppa. Twice Richard led his forces to within o few miles of Jerusalem. But the recapture of the city, which constituted the chief aim of the Third Crusade, eluded him. There were fierce quarrels among the French, German, and English contingents. The Pilgrimage Of Faxian And Xuanzang To Introduction The pilgrimage of Faxian and Xuanzang to the India is an important event in the cultural exchange between China and India because their experiences of pilgrimages have significant effects on not only development of Buddhism in China as well as cultural exchange between China and India. Faxian and Xuanzang actively participated in various Buddhist activities in India. Their travel experiences were maintained in detailed records of their precious books, which are preservation of valuable historical information such as Ancient Buddhism, geography and social customs in order to study India, Sri Lanka, and other countries. From this perspective, the pilgrimage to India is necessary. At the same time, the Buddhist scriptures and discipline were incomplete and there were only a few of them. Monks acts in his own way without law compliance at that time. These two reasons are there was a movement to seek the Buddhist scriptures and discipline in India. And they are the motives of Faxian s pilgrimage to India. On the other hand, the motivations of Xuanzang s pilgrimage to India are due to inspiration of Faxian and mere and messy situation of Buddhist scriptures and discipline. It is no doubt that Faxian s pilgrimage to India is successful. And his book Record of the Buddhist Kingdoms has more directly inspired Xuanzang to obtain Buddhist scriptures and discipline. Another important reason for Xuanzang s pilgrimage to India is the mere and messy situation of Buddhist scriptures and discipline. Within the study of the theory of different Buddhist scriptures and discipline, there was more doubt and confusion due to lack of sufficient Buddhist scriptures and discipline. Based on the introduction of Buddhism situation in India, especially the Buddhist Center Nalanda which is the highest school of Buddhism from one monk from India, Xuanzang determined his pilgrimage to India. • 7. The Future Of The Hoverboard Essay Arjun Tarsadia D Block Physical Science 8 18 November 2016 The Future of the Hoverboard Research Question: Is it possible to make the hoverboard even more convenient by using extra wheels and more inventions? Problem and Application: The new invention of the hoverboard has amazed people and this self balancing scooter is amusing. The hoverboard is a self balancing scooter that could be dangerous or hard to use. I think that people want to make the it easier to use and more convenient. It is important to make a new innovative hoverboard because the the original hoverboard causes many injuries and the new invention will prevent those injuries. Secondly, there is a huge problem in hoverboard safety issues because the internet has portrayed videos on people falling. The problem is more than significant because people are being taken to the hospital and companies are not selling because of the safety issues. It is more beneficial to have a safer design so there is no more injuries. A question that I will have testing the innovative hoverboard design is if I should add extra wheels to my design. Also I cannot touch the hoverboard s technology so I will have to find a way to make it safer to use. However, the innovative self balancing scooter has some cons like blowning up across the globe and its durability on roads. There is no gas involved with the hoverboard and is eco friendly. An average hoverboard takes 3 4 hours to fully charge. It will help the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Ever Growing Inmate Population and Its Effects on the Prison System Frankie Lorino Jr. University of Troy Abstract The purpose of this paper is to look at the prevalence of overcrowding in the United States prison system, what led to its current conditions, and how it effects the its fundamental function. The explanation of growth is suggested by Davey 1998 and Anderson 2000. Jacobson, 2005 outlines some of the affairs leading to the change in prison functions. The dire state of conditions in prison facilities is exemplified by McConville, 1987. Furthermore McConville also offers some possible resolutions to the current problems. The Ever Growing Inmate Population and Its Effects on the Prison System When thinking of the prison system in the United States, one fact that may be shocking is that it ranks as one of the highest per capita inmate populations in the world. The United States has seen an ever growing prison population over the last few decades. The results of prison inmate inflation are causing more strains than facilities can handle. The increasing number of inmates is a result of the reluctance to help rehabilitate inmates and develop their ability to function and add value to society. Increase in prison population through the years Consequences The United States now locks up a higher percentage of its population than any country in the world (Jacobson, 2005, p. 8). • 10. Hamadryas Baboons Essay The complex world of primates revolves around a spectrum of different behaviors and physical features that can be intertwined with their evolutionary history and current ecosystem. Two species of baboons that share a common ancestor dating back twenty million years ago are Papio hamadryas and Theropithecus gelada (Falk, 173). More commonly called as hamadryas baboons and geladas, they are known to share many characteristics because of this common lineage. In fact, they are categorized under the same order of classification, down to the same subfamily of primates, known as cercopithecidae. Despite sharing a common subfamily, these two species of baboons manage to encompass divergent qualities in response to their environment. Evolution has played a monumental role in regards to the similarities and differences between geladas and hamadryas baboons. Moreover, many traits have been retained within the same subfamily. However, since their habitat lacks in track coverage, it places them in a vulnerable state from predators. Females in closer proximity to the male leader have a higher chance of being protected in the event a predator attacks. Therefore, this increases her survival rate because male leaders are the only members to engage in combat. As for geladas, they follow the cercopithicine model of dominance. Olsen argues in contrast to many others, that the Maastricht Treaty was not year zero in the EU citizenship discourse (Olsen 2008, p. 40). His study deals with the time before the general discussion over the European citizenship started in the 1970s (cf. ibid, p. 41ff.) The article s main finding states that European citizenship has been in existence from the European integration s starting point, the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). Olsen defines his concept of citizenship as a status of individuals in relation to a political unit (ibid, p. 41) which he divides in the four dimensions ... He merely speculates about the status of membership in that case. It can also be argued that the coal and steel workers were of course included in the wording of the contract, because it was their industries that were being integrated. But an equivalence of the coal and steel workers to European Citizens on such thin arguments is rather far fetched. Secondly, during applying the membership dimension on the Rome Treaties, Olsen again confuses workers and producers as members or citizens, although he himself, as before, states that the prevailing image is one of a focus on individuals as workers and producers (ibid, p. 47). So by wrongly applying the membership dimension, Olsen again disproves his own argument. Thirdly, Olsen analyses preambles of the aforementioned treaties and documents on several occasions. Unfortunately he only derives speculations and conjectures out them. E.g. the preamble of the free movement Regulation 1612/68 states that the freedom of movement constitutes a fundamental right of workers and their families as well as it gives a guarantee for the possibility of improving [the worker s] living and working conditions and promoting his social advancement (ibid, p. 50). When I began to drive past the cemetery to its entrance, all I could see were miles and miles of headstones. It was eerie to say the least. As a kid, whenever my family would drive by a cemetery, my siblings and I would hold our breath until we passed so as to not breathe in the wandering, lost souls. Actually going into a cemetery to look around seemed counterintuitive, I wasn t sure if I would be able to hold my breath for that long. How Selection On Behavior Shapes Brain Investment Understanding how selection on behavior shapes brain investment is a major question in the analysis of the evolution of animal sociality [Szathmary and Maynard Smith, 1995; Edelman and Changeux, 2001; Ricklefs, 2004; Gronenberg and Riveros, 2009]. Neural tissue is energetically expensive and therefore brain regions should only enlarge when needed to meet functional demands [Niven and Laughlin, 2008]. The social brain hypothesis posits that social interactions are so cognitively demanding that social environment selects for enhanced neural development [Humphrey, 1976; Dunbar and Shultz, 2007]. A study on solitary bees, Osmia lignaria found that adults emerge with neuronal development typical of experienced workers in advanced eusocial insect species, but also found that mushroom body neuropil volume further increased with foraging experience [Withers et al., 2007]. These results confirm that mushroom bodies are important for cognitive processes in solitary antecedents, but cannot inform us on the role of social experience on neuropil investment. Smith et al. [2010] examined brain size and development using the facultatively social bee Megalopta genalis, a species with both solitary and primitively social colonies in the same populations. Mushroom body size increased with foraging behavior in solitary individuals and workers compared to newly emerged M. genalis females, but even greater mushroom body development was found in queens. Gracchus did not consult the senate regarding this measure and instead brought it before the popular assembly. His reason for doing so might have been that he believed it would get bogged down in the senate, as it was a bill directly affecting their finances or perhaps it was because he only had one year to act and realized the immediate need for reform. However Tiberius had friends in the senate and it is possible that the bill may have got through if he had followed procedure and if the senators put the needs of the republic before their own. When the bill was brought before the Concilium Plebis, it was vetoed by fellow tribune M. Octavius, a large holder of public land. • 37. Theme Of Morality In Trifles Ethics and morals are two different things although quite similar. Ethics relate to the essence of right and wrong according to the law. This is exhibited in the pre meditated murder that we see in the play Trifles. Morals are related to personal standards. What may be morally right for one person may not be morally right for another person. Morals are based on a person s upbringing, their religion, and their personal beliefs. In Trifles, Sweat, and The Storm, Susan Glaspell, Zora Neal Hurston, and Kate Chopin use symbolism to show, develop, and illustrate the theme of ethics versus morals. Susan Glaspell uses the bird to justify the murder of Mr. Wright in Trifles. Within the play there is a broken bird cage. This cage is symbolic of Minnie Wright s marriage. She lives in the middle of nowhere with John. This isolation breaks Minnie Wright s spirit, just like the cage is broken. In the story it says, She used to sing real pretty herself (986). Since Minnie is out in the country with no one but John, that bird is her lifeline to the outside world. She lives through that bird. John s oppression of Minnie, and the fact that he cold heartedly killed her bird takes away her desire to sing, or dance, or dress pretty. Arthur Waterman states She was figuratively strangled by John (3). In turn, Minnie literally strangles John with a rope in his sleep. The women don t always find this action morally or ethically right. Mrs. Peters, in the beginning, said But, Mrs. Hale, the law is the law (Glaspell 984). After finding out about the bird, and pondering the situation among themselves, the women all agree with Minnie Wright. It was justifiable homicide in their eyes, thus making it ethically and morally right in their eyes. Hurston s Sweat uses the snake as symbolism, and to justify Delia s actions after Sykes is bitten. In the story, Delia is a faithful Christian woman who is married to a devil like man named Sykes. Hurston associates the snake to Sykes. The snake symbolizes Sykes representation of the Devil. Sykes knows that Delia is scared of snakes. Delia tells Sykes, You know how skeered Ah is of snakes. Course Ah Knowed it (1). Sykes not only torments Delia, he also cheats on her openly. • 42. Summary Of Murnau s The Last Laugh Friedrich Willhelm (F.W.) Murnau s The Last Laugh (1924) holds a special place within silent film (Bordwell 2016). It is the film that made Murnau popular with American audiences, and in turn, its success lead him to move to Hollywood and eventually make masterpieces (not to say that The Last Laugh itself isn t a masterpiece), such as Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927). Both films evoke the surreality of life, but unlike the celebratory Sunrise¸ The Last Laugh laments life s predestined nature. Murnau dramatizes this lamentation through the contrast of the real with the fanciful and through his use of doors. From the first shot, The Last Laugh manages to be both hyper realistic and utterly whimsical. We are whisked down the elevator and out the constantly revolving door into a city, that while appearing to be real at first, is just a painted backdrop. But Murnau spares no expense to fool the audience; he even has figures moving inside the painted towers, which to the untrained eye cause the towers to seem real. Alas, the towers are fake, but these moving figures serve a larger purpose than just to be a tool to suspend the audience s belief. They add to the busy aesthetic of the The Last Laugh. The world Murnau has created is a hectic one where One day you are preeminent, respected by all, as the opening title announces, and the next you are a nobody, and before you know it, life has passed you by. Thought to be over 7000 years old by some historians, the ancient civilization of Sumer is truly one of a kind. Being such an old group of people, was Sumer able to advance its own culture and society in such an ancient time? Has Sumer affected modern society as we know it today? To begin, the inventions of ancient Sumer truly had an effect on both their society and us today. The wheel, although seen as such a simple tool today, was revolutionary at the time of its creation. These paired strands attach in a specific manner, for example, Adenine (A) attaches itself to Thymine (T) and Cytosine(C) to Guanine (G). PCR is a laboratory technique that uses primers to amplify a specific area and then copies the sequence a billion times over. Another method worth mentioning is the combined use of Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP) and Gel Electrophoresis. RFLP is when restriction enzymes are used as markers which cut DNA in specific known locations. By mistreating Ophelia, perchance Hamlet can trick Polonius into believing that he has gone mad; Hamlet s display of hostility to a person he is thought to have cared deeply about may promote the idea that he is not the same person as he always was. Although it can not necessarily be proven, it appears that in the Hall of Mirrors Hamlet is aware that Claudius and Polonius are spying. • 46. The Nature Of The Poetry Of Percy Shelley s Mutability Shelley Percy is one of the most highly regarded Romantic poets of the 19th century. Many of Shelley s poem tell about the nature of the human condition. In many of his poems Shelley use elements of nature (seashells, the wind, the ocean, etc.) to discuss truths about the human condition. Percy Shelley examines the one consistent characteristic of being human in his poem Mutability . In his poem Mutability Shelley shows the fragility and unpredictability of the human condition. The poem opens with the speaker comparing humans to clouds that veil the midnight moon (Line 1). The clouds move radiantly across the sky and cover the light of the moon. The words speed , gleam , quiver and streaking personify the cloud image. Shelley describes the cloud s actions as a metaphor for human actions, How restlessly they speed, and gleam, and quiver, / streaking the darkness radiantly! (Lines 2 3). He believes that humans go through life with speed, not taking time to rest; like clouds at night, we do not last forever. Shelley s use of the word of veil instead of covers creates a sense of purposefully hidden light. In lines three to four of the poem the wondrous sight is eventually extinguished by the darkness, yet soon/ Night closes round, and they are lost forever. By using this image of the night Shelley shows the cycle of change and demonstrates human morality. The speaker is pointing out that humans have short lives on Earth and regardless of how radiantly we may shine, we are like clouds at night that are overshadowed. In the second stanza Shelley describes the frailty of human existence. In lines five through nine humans are describes as forgotten lyres, whose dissonant strings/ Give various response to each varying blast,/ To whose frail frame no second motion brings/ One mood or modulation like the last. Shelley uses this as a metaphor that expands on the concept of human morality. In this stanza humans are compared to forgotten lyres saying that we will be forgotten when we are dead and gone. The different moods of the stanza are created by the different sounds of the lyre. Humans are being compared to instruments with beautifully melodies have been forgotten.
