Previous famines, particularly one in the mid 1970 s, had decimated the farming population,
and thousands of farms were confiscated by Ethiopia s elite. Government policies lowered grain
prices that left little incentive for remaining farmers to continue growing crops, leading to more
rebel fighting. Many farmers in the north of Ethiopia for forcibly relocated to the south by
government forces. Five of Ethiopia s 13 provinces were in a state of the highest drought level in
1983, with several in the south of the country leaving farmers helpless (Wilson, 3 Causes of
Famine in Africa ). In 1984, a BBC News team reported on the devastating famine, bringing it into
the spotlight for the world to see. In January 1985, the month as We Are the World was recorded,

Persuasive Essay On Russia s Independence
Kosovar Independence Forty five percent of Kosovo s population is in poverty, according to the
World Fact Bank. Kosovo is a self declared independent country in the South Balkans in Europe,
it wants independence, but Serbia believes that it is an autonomous province of Serbia. It
declared independence in 2008 and there are a lot of reasons why, but there are also some
reasons why it should be part of Serbia. Kosovo should be independent because Serbians have
committed genocide against ethnic Kosovar Albanians, other countries have broke free from
Serbia, thus Kosovo should be able to as well, and three out of the five members of the UN s Big
Five are in agreement about the issue (UN.org). First off, the Serbians committed genocide to ethnic

And the UN is just that, an organization of nations. In the UN, there is a security council made
up of 5 countries, also know as the Big Five , which are Russia, China, France, the United
Kingdom, and the United States. The Big Five are split on the issue, with Russia and China
saying no to their independence, and the US, UK, and France say yes to the issue. China and
Russia believe that Kosovo should become independent. One reason is that Serbia has been
protected by Russia since WWI when it helped it gain independence. Russia and China are allies,
so China agrees with Russia on the issue. On the other side, the US, UK, and France are all in
the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), so they generally agree with each other, as
well as the rest of NATO. Supporters of Serbian integration of Kosovo believe that Kosovo
should not become independent because it might start wars, but, because there is a scenario that
is well know, know as MAD, or Mutually Assured Destruction (Nieuwint). MAD is a scenario in
which the US and Russia are at war and they destroy each other, and the world. Since the US is
pro Kosovo, and Russia is anti Kosovo, people in both countries know that they cannot start a war

Gravy And She Lives In A Pat Of Butter
Based on the poems Gravy by Corrie Lynn White and She lives in a Pat of Butter by Jade
Ramsay, women are forced to be a role model in family life and domesticity. Although women
generally need to give a great amount of effort to be the best mother or wife, the social
expectations from both of the poems want women to be perfect especially in domestic life. In fact,
there was even a time when female domesticity became the culture of some upper and middle class
Americans back in the nineteenth century (The Cult of Domesticity). Their purpose was to limit
womans influences only to familylife or handling chores around the home. Both of the poems show
that the expectations of seeing every woman must definitely have a happy life after marriage...

Since the poem itself has the title that comes from the name of a food, the narrator is probably
eager to talk about her story with food. She firmly disagrees with the societal expectations that
women have to know how to cook and for her to at least successfully stir a gravy. She also says
in the poem that [she] thought the world wanted [her] to stir the gravy around with a wooden
spoon, because as soon as [she] looks away, the gravy would boil over (25 29). This means that
no matter how society the society wishes her to be like, she will not always be able to fulfill
their expectations. Hence, the failure of preparing a gravy clearly shows that she does not know
how to make a gravy like the society think. Furthermore, the narrator is also left in awe as she
knows that many people do not even care to follow social expectations. This is stated in the line
[she] watched the bird fly over Wells Fargo (31 32). The bird seems to represent other people and
flying over Wells Fargo means that they avoid the expectations of society. Towards the end of the
poem, she now knows that she can be that other people too and finally leaves the gravy

Bradford Assay Lab Report
Abstract For this lab we will use Bradford assay and spectrophotometers in order to determine the
concentration of protein in commercially produced food products. The experiment concluded the
three given milk samples, breakfast milk has the most amount of protein. After calculating and
recording data, we founded that whole milk had the least amount of protein, and breakfast milk
ended up having the most protein. Leaving Muscle Milk with less protein than the breakfast milk
and more protein than the whole milk. This research will help people in wisely choosing their
intake of commercially produced food.

First we began setting the spectrophotometer to 595 nm. We than label each cuvette with
numbers corresponding to the concentrations. To each cuvette we added 1 ml of coomassie blue
dye and on the blank cuvette we added 20 ul of PBS (Phosphate Buffered Saline). We then added
20 ul of each standard to the respective cuvettes using a new clean tip for each use. Each cuvette
was covered with parafilm and inverted to mix allowing it to sit for a total of 5 minutes. We first
inserted the blank cuvette into the spectrophotometer and pressed blank once right after we put in
each of the cuvettes with the protein concentrations. In between each cuvette we put in a blank
before the next step. After the absorbance were recorded, we created the standard curve. We then
graphed the standard curve, with solutions and their protein concentrations. We then labeled each
cuvette along with a blank. We repeated the process from finding the standard curve with the
known solution. We then used the equation from the standard curve in order to find the
concentrations of proteins and compared. The concentration is the independent variable which is
plotted on the x axis and the absorbance is the dependent variable which is plotted on the y axis.

Stop Drinking Soda Research Paper
Introduction
You want to lose 12 pounds per year? Or how about avoiding something that can cause lifelong
paralysis or death? There is one simple thing we can do to avoid these tragic outcomes and at the
same time, help America. What is this one simple thing, you may ask? The answer is, by stop
consuming soda.
Thesis Statement
Stop the consumption of soda makes good sense for us as an individual and as a society. In this
paper, after we examine its harmful ingredients, and the specific ways it can hurt your health, you
ll see why you should stop consuming soda. Then, we ll explore the healthier alternatives to soda
that we can drink every day.
Main point #1: Ingredients in Average Soda Drink
Firstly, to understand the real issue with soda ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We ve noted the harmful ingredients and now let s take a closer look at the harm they can do to
our body. Firstly, the ingredients in both regular and diet sodas can cause many harmful effects
to your body. An average small bottle or can of soda contains over 200 calories, none of which
contains any real nutrients for your health. If you consume just one can of soda per day, you will
gain 12 pounds in only one year.
Following this fact, experts have noted that there is a link between soda consumption and obesity in
United States. For an example, according to a 2012 article in Prevalence of obesity and trends in
body mass index among US children and adolescents , it is found that two out of three adults
and one out of three children in America are overweight or obese. Rising consumption of soda
has been a major contributor to the obesity epidemic. Besides, according to an article by
American Heart Association (2017), sugar is a pure carbohydrate, and carbohydrates give the
body energy, but downing a can of soda of 250 calories isn t helpful. Unless you start doing
jumping jacks the second you finish the soda, and keep them up for an hour or so, those
carbohydrates will turn to fat. It is also proven that people in United States have been paying a lot
for their poor dietary habits. According to the CDC (2004), nationwide obesity related disease
expenditures for Medicare and Medicaid was a whopping $78.5

Legalizing the Drinking Age to 18
Legalizing the Drinking Age to 18 When people turn to the age of eighteen, they are finally
considered an adult. They can join the army, have the right to vote, buy cigarettes or tobacco
products, get a tattoo and even die for our country, but they aren t allowed to buy alcohol? A
person can be responsible enough to live on his or her own, make money, pay bills, and yet they
are not old enough to purchase or consume any type of alcohol. Underage drinking has been a
major controversial issue for years. Teenagers are continuing to buy alcohol with fake
identification cards, drink, get into bars, and drink illegally. As being a teenager, these things are
going on not only in college, but also in high school. There are a lot of factors as to... Show more

The MLDA also comes into play with why the drinking age should be lowered. Enforcing an
MLDA of 21 is expensive and inefficient. Setting the MLDA at 21 is unconstitutional because it
is discrimination against the particular age group of 18 20 year olds. IT would be more
effective to spend money on educating youth about alcohol than to spend it on enforcement of
drinking laws for 18 20 year olds. The pie chart below shows the proportion of 83 countries
MLDAs from ages 14 to 21. People under the age of 21 see alcohol as a forbidden fruit.
Forbidden fruit is described as, A badge of rebellion against authority and a symbol of
adulthood(Dr. Ruth Engs). If drinking is made legal for people 18 and older, it will seem much
better as the curiosity isn t as high and the fruit isn t forbidden anymore. Responsibility and
tolerance are two major things that should be addressed with lowering the drinking age.
Responsible drinking could be taught through role modeling and educational programs. If the
drinking age were to be lowered, mature and sensible drinking behavior would be expected.
Tolerance doesn t come with age, tolerance comes with

Sonnet 150 Literary Devices
The Dark Lady and the Troubles That She Causes
Poetry is oftentimes a fascinating bit of literature. In a short amount of time, one is expected to
have a topic and cut to the chase of things. This poem is a sonnet by none other than the legendary
Shakespeare. Sonnet 150 has all the makings of a sonnet with the standardized form that makes it
unidentifiably Shakespeare. The sonnet follows the rhyme scheme of abab cdcd efef gg which
shows three quatrains and one couplet. Sonnet 150 is a one of the later poems that changes
significantly from Shakespeare s earlier works about love and crooning about how magical these
feelings are. When looking at these later poems, we see Shakespeare acknowledging that love has
its faults. These feelings are no longer the perfect centerpiece that can easily blind those in youth.
Now that some age has passed, we the reader are in for a more grounded oftentimes colder treat
that mirrors reality far more accurately than those of a love struck puppy. This sonnet is actually
about beauty, how that beauty is handled, and ends with a truth about two different beings can
come to terms with one another with all the flaws that they are riddled with.
This poem is about the radiance of woman. The poem doesn t mention any particular woman per
say. Because of the way this poem is laid out, I feel like this is a forewarning about the imperfect
nature of not only women, but how imperfect love is. This sonnet is more likely a classification of

Elementary School Is An Absolute Ball
I love reminiscing. Looking back at all of those photographs my parents forced me to smile and
say cheese for I actually kind of like them now. They remind me of all the fun I ve had, all the
friends I shared memories with at recess, sports games, dances, award assemblies, pep rallies, or
anything related to school really. Actually, really looking back I loved elementary, middle, and high
schoolall for the reason that it made me who I am today. If it were not for all the classes, extra
curriculars, and other school related activities, I would not have the friends I have today, would
not know even a quarter of all the math, English, history, science I was taught, and would not
have any of the confidence and respect I now withhold as a graduate of 14 whole years of
schooling. Messy hair, dirty nails, unlimited friends, imaginations with no limit, and zero
worries; Elementary school was an absolute ball. Elementary is a bit of a blur for most as it feels
like a lifetime ago, but I remember it pretty well. I attended a school right around the corner from
my house in Fontana from Pre K to the 4th grade, until my family and I moved to Eastvale where I
had to take a bus every day for 30 minutes each trip just to get to and from school. And I absolutely
loved it. I loved the idea of being the new girl, and I wanted to meet new people. Fifth grade may
very well be my favorite year. My 5th grade teacher was Mrs. Warhop, and I was what everyone
would call the teacher s pet. As

Amiloride Research Paper
Amiloride is a selective inhibitor of sodium transport in the nephron, which function as interfering
with the distal renal tubular and collecting duct in the epithelial sodium channel, in the proximal
renal tubular inhibition of sodium hydrogen and sodium potassium exchange, resulting in
depression of potassium secretion. Amiloride is a potent diuretic drug, excreting sodium without
changing serum potassium level, and the excretion can function in the absence of aldosterone, it
acts on the distal renal tubules, blocking the sodium potassium exchange mechanism, to promote
sodium and chlorine excretion but still keeping potassium and hydrogen secretion on normal state,
promoting a more alkaline urine. Amiloride itself has relative weak sodium

Summary Of Gerald Graff s Hidden Intelectuals
Hidden Intelectuals Gerald Graff divide intelligence into two categories the first one nook
smarts and the second one is street smarts . Book smarts refers to people who are able to succeed
scholastically. Street smarts refers to a person who has a lot of common sense and knows what
s going on in the world. When Graff was young, he shows how street smarts are being bullied by
his neighbour such as the hoods . He tells us about how he lived in Chicago where people who
show their street smarts are seen by the hoods as putting airs over them. They will be called as
smart ass and being bullied and they will take your money. ... he relieved me of my pocket
change along with my self respect. But in our society, book smarts are seen better than people
who are street smarts. I grew up torn, then, between the need to prove i was smart and the fear of
beating if I proved it too well: between the need not to jeopardize my respectable furue and the
need to impress the hoods. by this he tells us that he is in a dilemma between getting a good job
and develop his book smarts or develop his street smarts to impress his neighborhood. In the ending
of this article he thinks that schools and collegeare not giving students the chance... Show more

This is because usually book smarts are labelled as the good kids and street smarts are labeled
the rebel or trouble maker. But to be successful in our career or job we need both street smart and
book smarts. As Graff says if student are given the chance to pursue their interest to be street
smarts students will slowly develop their book smarts. I agree because based on my experience if i
was given the chance to learn what i like i would be more attentive or excited about school. School
can do this by giving assignment on what street smart student likes for example about game or car
that fascinate them. By this they will develop their street smart and book

How Gender Comes Into Play
In my previous paper I was very interested in how gender comes into play when it comes to how
people balance paid work and family time. This was really interesting to me because as a
daughter I was really interested to see if any of the themes that I saw reminded of when I was
young. Even more than that, however, I was interested to see what might happen to me as I get
older, get married, and start having children. While I am young now, I am very eager to settle
down and have a familyso I was very curious at the different themes that I would see when I
interviewed a married women, who was Named Lucy .
The themes that I did see in my research were inequality, a very traditional family dynamic
(which I thought was caused by a gender trap), and family myths. The division of household labor
in this family was very traditional, the mother, who I interviewed, was the one who did most, if
not all, of the household labor along with working a full time job. That led me to believe that they
had a very traditional family dynamic, even though that might not be the true ideology of the
women I interviewed. I picked up on a few things while I was interviewing her that I think led to
the traditional division of labor. I thought that they were very much caught in a gender trap,
meaning that they think that they have to do what is typical for their gender. That meant that the
childcare and the housework, which is seen as more of a feminine, were up to Lucy. The other
things that were seen

How Does Landscape Reflects Society
I believe this statement to be true that landscapes are reflections of the societies that create them. I
have read and analysed many articles which have clearly reflected this and a quote by Pierce
Lewis which I feel is needed to start off my discussion says that landscape is something to be
looked at, but seldom thought about (Lewis, 1979, p.1). This statement made me start to really
think about landscapeand how we must look further than what just meets the naked eye. From my
readings I have found out that in order to look at landscape better than we must train our eyes to
see things in a different light and therefore it is vital that we see past the landscape that presents
itself to us. Duffy describes landscape brilliantly by saying that... Show more content on

The Temples were developed in the 15th century and were to be later rediscovered by the French
in the 19th century. They are a symbol of Cambodia s glorious past (Winter, 2007, p133) and the
temples also reflect many degrees of heritage as it is used today for celebrations of the Khmer
New Year that last four days and is revered by Khmers as a deeply symbolic icon of national,
ethnic and cultural unity (Winter, 2007, p133). On average the UNESCO figures reveal that
100,000 to 200,000 people visit the area for the four day celebrations. This shows how
landscapes are reflections of the societies that create them when such large numbers are coming
to celebrate this tradition. In the year 1975 on April 17th a new party came into Phnom Penh
declaring the end of 2000 years of Cambodian history (Winter, 2007, p138) they were called Pol

party were all about taking control and power of the landscape which shows again that
landscapes are reflections of the societies that create them. The Pol Pot removed all freedom of
travel and therefore Cambodians were not able to visit the Angkor tombs this a sign of the people
being oppressed. After what is only two decades the festivities of today therefore represent a
reclaiming of the site...as a populist symbol of history enabling Cambodians to better

Republican Wisconsin Senator, Joseph R. Mccarthy Essay
Republican Wisconsin senator, Joseph R. McCarthy, was originally a quiet senator who was
fairly unknown and had done nothing extraordinary previous to 1950. The senator changed all
that when he delivered a speech in February 1950, in which he leveled allegations that the State
Department employed numerous Communists. He claimed to possess a list of these Communist
employees, although that list was never produced (Tindall, George Brown, and David Emory
Shi). Senator McCarthy s attempt to gain publicity with his outlandish accusations worked.
Since the first Red Scare years before the fifties, many Americans continued to be terrified of
Communists and their potential ability to corrupt and overrun America. Senator McCarthy
played on these fears, and he continued to claim communism had infiltrated every aspect of
America; politics, culture and all of American society. Because of the similarity of events from
the first Red Scare, this time period of the early fifties in America is often called the second Red
Scare. The second Red Scare in America s history actually began in the late forties, previous to
McCarthy s emergence in 1950, and it continued on throughout the fifties lasting at least a dozen
years (Storrs, Landon R. Y.) McCarthy s short era during the second Red Scare actually lasted
only four years, but because of his outspoken and arrogant persona, as well as his ability to inflict
fear and persecution on innocent people, this entire span of time went down in the

Effects Of Regime Type On The Duration Of War And War On...

Professor Danielson
10 March 2016
[Title]
Introduction What is the effect of regime type on the duration of war and war s impact on
political leaders? And how do these effects range in comparison to other variables, such as
wealth, military power, or alliances? I hypothesize the following: longer wars have a worse impact
on democracies than on dictatorships and mixed regimes, and as a result are shorter. In the first
section of this paper, I define key terms used throughout the paper and review literature and theory
related to the topic of war and regime type. In the next section, I
Background and Literature Review Using [cite] s definition of regime type, I have identified
three types of regimes in this paper: democracies, dictatorships, and mixed regimes. Democracies
are defined as regimes that do not repress its people and include the highest proportion of the
populace; dictatorships are highly repressive and exclude most of the population; and mixed
regimes use moderate repression and exclude a significant proportion of their populace (CITE). To
understand the reasoning behind my hypothesis, I turn to the democratic and inter democratic
peace theories, in which my hypothesis is fundamentally rooted. These theories come from the
liberal school of thought in international relations and posit that democracies do not, or are less
likely, to go to war, and do not go to war with other democracies (Elman 758). There is much

Breast Enlargement 5 Non Surgical Alternatives
Summary: A lot of options can be considered over surgery for breast enlargement. The popular
altenatives include Enlargement pumps, Fat transfer, Contouring among others.
No one but women understand the need and importance for breast enlargement. Some do it to
shape their personality while some do it in order to appear in a particular way. Whatever be the
reason, all women should understand the health risks surgical breast enhancement procedures may
carry. Non Surgical Procedures are always favoured over surgical augmentation procedures. The
primary alternative to a surgery or implant include the following.
Enlargement Pumps
The expansion of breast tissue is a favourable way of increasing breast size. Breast Enlargement
takes place as a result of the pumps acting as a suction on the tissues. This encourages enhanced
blood flow and increases the possibility of increased tissue growth. This helps in breast
enhancement as they increase in size. However a lot of endurance is needed to reap rewards from
this process as extensive and motivated use in the pertinent way is required over a minimum period
of three months. Results cannot be anticipated over night.
Fat Transfer

complimenting proportions in order to make breasts seem larger or smaller than they actually are.
A shadowing effect can be brought about with the help of a bronzer that makes the dark area look
farther from actual. Make up can also be used to make the shaded area appear closer. Thus,
effective contouring can help in providing breasts a more enhanced

The Key Themes Of Gender Trouble By Judith Butler
Since its publication in 1990, Gender Trouble has become one of the key works of contemporary
feminist theory, and an essential work for anyone interested in the study of gender, queer theory,
or the politics of sexuality in culture. This is the text where Judith Butler began to advance the
ideas that would go on to take life as performativity theory, as well as some of the first articulations
of the possibility for subversive genderpractices, and she writes in her preface to the 10th

Gender performativity is related to performance and shares elements with it, but it has no subject.
She explains, The action of gender requires a performance that is repeated. This repetition is at

Performativity creates a fictional reality in which gender and its roles are determined according to a

Paper On Drones
Introduction
Drones have been making a splash in the UAV industry. The ability of these drones to fly by
themselves and at great heights makes them one of a kind. The public has only been able to
have their hands on these drones for the last half decade. Drone technology is driven along as
the technology inside the drone is increasing. Drones can do bountiful objectives and is
improving and in the future, it could bring even more. According to Keen (2015), The media to
a great extent concentrate on these applications, however rambles and the versatile innovation,
controlling them are progressively being utilized to take care of obstinate worldwide issues.
Drones are an impressive technology, and we will go into further detail how it is shaping the
world with its technology. Drones can also have problems with just having to register them. It is
a conitiuing problem for people that just want to use it at their home. We will look farther into
this and many more issues and successes of drones. This paper will look at the history, and the
drone s technology and its innovation. The paper will analyze how drones and its technology are
shaping the world as it is today. After the analysis of drones is thoroughly explained, there will be
conclusions stated based on the materials presented in this paper.

The first use of a drone was for military purposes; it was introduced after the first World War in

The Benefits Of Software Creation
Long time technology pundit David Kirkpatrick may have been the first to note the phenomenon
way back in 2011 when he wrote Now every company is a software company. That comment, which
may have been intentionally hyperbolic at the time, has become reality in 2017. To wit, those
organizations not leveraging great customer facing and employee facing software lack the means to
compete effectively. To be fair, it s clear many enterprises today are scrambling to identify the

Put simply it removes the responsibility of executing actual code or managing infrastructure by
moving that role into the domain of the cloud provider. It s only serverless in the sense that the
development team no longer needs to worry about computing resources, containers, virtual
machines, security, or loading code and running it. In brief, almost everything related to software
creation is abstracted from the team with the exception of development.
This model delivers a host of significant benefits to development teams, particularly in the realms
of IT costs and the types of event driven applications that we see emerging today. However, even
as dramatic as the cost savings are predicted to be, we believe the de coupling of application
delivery from infrastructure management will prove to be the most significant advantage, changing
the nature of software development forever.
Basically, the more an organization can abstract infrastructure management, thus hiding its
complexity from developers, the better that development team can decompose its applications into
individual services while retaining a sense of the application s complete scope and purpose, thus
dramatically improving the organization s velocity. No longer do application developers have to
manage servers, the OS, containers, security, scheduling management, or myriad other functions

Personal Reflection Of A Personal Experience At Multimension
The company I interned for this semester was MultiMension. It is a company founded and run by
my intern supervisor, Julie Hyunjoo Lee. MultiMension is an E learning company that produces
digital media tools for the various instructional needs of customers. These tools come in the form of
online courses, infographics, animations, and interactive tutorials that are tailors to target
audiences. The company has also been involved in mobile application design and development.
They recently released a new meal planner application, called Nuttri. This is the product I worked
exclusively with during my internship this semester.
Nuttri is a baby meal planner application for apple and android mobile devices. It is currently
designed for parents of infants who are between 4 to 24 months. The application provides
information on different foods and nutrients that parents can use to make decisions on what and
how parents plan for their baby s meals. The meals can be planned in the app calendar, with the
ability to record the child s opinion of the meal after. Information on seasonality and preparation of
ingredients help parents to prepare the right meals for a child during different periods of
development. Addition information and scientific references are available on the website for the
Nuttri application to allow parents to learn more on infant nutrition and development. My main role
in the development of the Nuttri application was a research intern. My majors are Human Biology

A Room Of One s Own And Terry Eagleton Analysis
There are many different theories you can look for when reading literature. You have five of
Terry Eagleton s theories which are reader s response, feminism, psychological view, and
historical, and formalism. There is Nietzsche s theory where he believes everything is a metaphor,
everything can be interpreted differently by the reader. Emerson s theory is transidlism and
existentialism. Transidlism is when someone will accept that there are miracles in the world.
Existentialism is when someone doesn t believe there are miracles. The last theory is the chaos
theory where everything is connected to everything, one thing sets off a chain reaction, and the
whole world is affected by it. You can see these different theories in Virginia Woolf s

Therefore, this is how she thought the life for women would be like in the sixteenth century, any
women born with a talent would end up being laughed up, mocked and ending their lives like the

been so thwarted and hindered by other people, so tortured and pulled asunder by her own contrary
instincts, that she must have lost her health and sanity to a certainty (Woolf).
Finally you notice Emerson s theory of transidlism which is someone who believes in miracles.
Woolf believes that there can be miracles for women. For my belief is that if we live another
century or so I am taking of the common life which is the real life and not of the little separate
lives which we live as individuals and have five hundred a year each of us and rooms of our

escape a little from the common sitting room and see human beings not always in their relation
to each other but in relation to reality; and the sky, too, and the trees or whatever it may be in
themselves; if we look past Milton s hogey, for no human being should shut out the view; if we
face the fact, for it is a fact, that there is no arm to cling to, but that we go alone and that our
relation is to the world of reality and not only to the world of men and women, then the opportunity

Cultures And Stereotypes In The Good Daughter By Caroline...
Kids with immigrant parents have to live in between different cultures, backgrounds, expectations,
stereotypes, and identity. Youths of immigrant parents get affected by different cultures. These
kids have to fight day by day between different cultures. In the article, The Good Daughter, by
Caroline Hwang, she talks about her American cultural, identity, and her ethnicity of having
Korean parents. Her sense of identity was falling apart when she wasn t able to pronounce her
last name and her parents never corrected her. Caroline was living in paradoxes because her
parents didn t want her Korean, but they don t want her fully American, either (Hwang 10). She

According to Hwang, many people decided pleasing their parents or being true to themselves.
But for the children of immigrants, the choice seems more complicated (Hwang 9). Children
with immigrant parents feel the pressure that they owe their parents their hopes for bringing
them to a new country. Caroline wanted to meet and follow her parent s wishes for her going to
law school because she didn t want to disobey or disappoint them. Due to following her parent s
expectations of going into law school, she left because how could [she] labor for five years in a

What role might perception and conflict in group communication be credited with this companies
incredible success? Google is an organization in which employees work in high density clusters,
with three or four staffers sharing spaces. (Robbins Judge, 2007, p. 571) Sales Engineering teams

Simple Conflicts, Ego Conflicts, as well as related misconceptions regarding conflicts exist in such

improve communication in these various groups is to guard against the pitfall of Conflict

A Reflection On Spirituality Assessment Essay
Introduction Spirituality is a very sensitive topic in any area of the world and when discussing it
with a patient is such a vulnerable situation, it becomes even more delicate. It is a topic which can
affect the outlook of the patient and how they will get through their condition. A spirituality
assessment is important because spirituality is such a powerful thing which can help a person turn
a terrible situation into something more bearable. It is vital for nurses to use this tool to help them
because it goes beyond medications and intubation trays, it focuses on them as a person. A
spirituality assessment is a tool which will help patients on critical care units get through there
vulnerable moment in life.
Implementation Plan
When trying to implement my spirituality assessment in critical care, I would use Rogers change
theory which has five different steps; awareness, interest, evaluation, trial, and adoption (Mitchell,
2013). Each of these steps are very important to the success of the spirituality assessment. During
the awareness step it is important to identify the importance of the spirituality assessment on the
critical care unit. I would explain how spirituality plays an important part in caring for a patient
because of the impact it has on the decision they will make (Savel Munro, 2014). I would try to
make the stakeholders aware of the influence spirituality will have on the patients on critical care
units. I would open their eyes to see the toll those

Both texts suggest that the increase of gun population leads to a violent result. Although, both

information, using logos as its type of persuasion, the evidence/examples are statistics and

persuasion that emphasises the emotion of the audience. In this case, logos is a better expression
for this topic because the question is asking for an increase in population of violence, a number.

My reasoning for this is due to if their is someone who still manage to get pregnant or infected

sure the company would not risk their business either. If you notice, even products who claim
that a product has a full affect, it would be a 99.9%. In case if by some reason it does not work
for that individual, they have that .1% of why it did t work for them. No pills, no condoms, no

Pride And Prejudice By Pride Essay
The Effects of Pride Pride is the feeling of satisfaction when someone achieve something,
someone close to you achieves something, or something somebody owns or has is admired by
others. Being proud of yourself or someone else is not always bad. However, some believe pride
is negative and can change how a person thinks and feels about certain things. It can be taken
either way depending on who, why, and when it is. Many people have written articles and have
done research to determine whether it is negative or positive. In the novel, Pride and Prejudice,
pride is seen throughout the story in people with a lot of money and with good looks. Different
things can determine whether pride is good or bad. Many studies have been done by
psychologists to determine whether pride is a sin or just an adaptive social emotion. A study
was done at Northeastern University by two people, David Desteno and Lisa Williams, who did
a research report on their results. The experiment examined the ability of pride to serve as an
adaptive emotion within the context of social interaction (Desteno and Williams 284). Pride is
often viewed as a deadly sin and high moral behavior (Desteno and Williams). They believe the
function of pride is to motivate hedonically costly efforts aimed at acquiring skills that increase
one s status and value to one s status and value to one s social group (Desteno and Williams). In
their study, they took sixty two individuals and separated them into same sex groups

The Use Of Food And Beverage Advertising In Public Schools
The use of food and beverage advertising in schools greatly impacts the purchasing behavior of
youth. With the abundance of advertisements plastered around elementary, middle, and high
schools, students believe that the foods and beverages advertised in their schools are what should
be purchasing and consuming. Advertisements directed at children in schools are misleading.
Children think it s okay to eat these food and drink these beverages because they see the
advertisements in a place of learning, a place where they believe whatever is taught to them is
correct. During the Obama administration, food and beverage advertisingwas a controversial topic in
regards to First Lady, Michelle Obama. Food and beverage promotion can be found almost
everywhere on school grounds. Schools have food and beverage sponsors, like local restaurants
and beverage companies that advertise in the lunchroom and even scoreboards in high schools (
Michelle ). According to a study completed by the United States Department of Agriculture
(USDA), 93% of marketingin schools, or $149 million, is related to beverages, and many soda
companies already have started to transition their sales and advertising in schools from sugary
sodas and sports drinks to their own healthier products ( Michelle ). Most people encompass the

Confucius Vs Vietnamese Culture

culture is strongly influenced by Confucianism, a simpler way of life, and the connection within
family member are often reflected by the values embedded in the ideology (Vu, Huy Q., Rook,

Discrepancies
Between parents and children, differences in acculturation are a common occurrence in immigrant
families including, the Vietnamese culture (Vu, Huy Q., Rook, Karen S. (2013)). When Vietnamese
immigrated to Western societies, the ethics and manners were incorporated, and was much easier
for the children to focus on then parents (Vu, Huy Q. Rook, Karen S. (2013)). Due to the children
finding the ethics quicker and without difficulty Vietnamese children begin to wander from the
traditional values causing struggles between the two generations (Vu, Huy Q. Rook, Karen S.
(2013)). Intergenerational conflict may perhaps have more dominant with parents and daughters
rather than sons (Vu, Huy Q. Rook, Karen S. (2013)). There is a solution with acculturation and

Essay About Buying A Home
For many people, owning a home is the fulfillment of long term dream. For others, it is their worst
nightmare. Purchasing a home is one of the biggest financial decisions one will make in one s life
time. It is therefore imperative to carefully consider the pros and cons of homeownership.
Advantages of owning a home
There is pride of ownership of the house. When you buy a house it becomes your legal property,
which allows you greater freedom in its use without restrictions often enforced by a Landlord.
Buying a house serves as a means of storing value and there are likely chances of appreciation in
the value of the house. i.e. The value of a home will appreciate over time and if you decide to sell,
you can earn a profit off the sale.
Owning a house is also a lifestyle choice. Owning a home offers the long term benefits of security,
equity and potential growth in personal wealth.
Being a Homeowner allows you creative control of your property. You can alter the property,
including dГ©cor changes, landscaping and renovations, to suit your needs and your style.
Owning a house is a means of tax reduction for mortgage interest. More so, there is an opportunity
to save money in the long term as there are possible tax deductions related to income generating

But before you strike out to hunt down any manure, it would be a good idea to actually know
what you are looking for, wouldn t it? There are many types of mature out there in that big old
world. There is the pure manure, you know, the manure that is just manure and nothing else.
There is also the not so pure manure, which is the manure that has the animal s bedding that
supplied the manure. While either type of manure will do a garden good, the best type is the
one with the bedding mixed into it because it will contain more of the necessary nutrients and
soil amendments that, when added to the garden spot, will be beneficial. Unfortunately, the
manure that has bedding in it is not the manure that is sold in bags at stores most of the time.
This type of manure will have to come directly from the source. So this is where the hunting of
the elusive manure for your garden will actually begin. A good place to start looking for home
grown manure is the local feed store. The customers that feed stores have are usually the same
ones who will have the manure you are looking for. Feed store customers are usually those folks
who raise cattle, horses, dogs, hogs, sheep, chickens, goats and other animals. All of these animals
produce manure and quite often the people who raise these animals will have pens that the
animals are kept in, thus leading to manure that has to go somewhere. Usually the animal owners
will gladly part with this manure, but you may have to be willing and ready to collect it yourself.
That means bring a shovel and dig in. Other places that can often help with the manure hunt are
veterinarian clinics that specialize in large animals, police departments that have mounted officers,
colleges and universities that have veterinary programs or agriculture programs and even pet stores
may be able to help. But if you get your manure from a pet store, try not

Standage chose to discuss about drinks and how they helped shape the world. In his book, A
History of the World in Six Glasses, Standage examines the most popular 6 drinks throughout
history to describe how they influenced the development of the world. He takes the reader on an
odyssey from the mesopotamian era to the 21st century and from beerto Coca Cola, proving that
what was thought to be irrelevant to history has affected it by sparking revolutions and advancing
scientific and intellectual movements. One wonders after reading this book if a pen and a paper or
a spoon and a knife have their own history that has helped shape the world in another

Examples Of Briony In Atonement
Many people go through life carrying guilt on their shoulders, often living life without resolving
it. In the novel, Atonement by Ian McEwan, young Briony Tallis makes the mistake of naming
Robbie Turner as her cousin s rapist without confirmation of who it really is; only doing this due
to the fact that she believes she is sees her sister love interest acting aggressively towards her
sister Cecilia when really it is someone else who raped her cousin. This raises the question of did
Briony truly achieve her atonement for this mistake? What will life be like if you do not atone
your mistakes? Briony lives her life as if she is trying to atone her mistake while exonerating
Robbie through careful writing.
Upon realizing her mistake as an adult, Briony Tallis continues writing almost as if she is trying to
make up for the fact that she knows she made a mistake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Briony s mind, she is writing the story of how her life has been going and she is in charge of
it. According to Briony, she is the one letting Cecilia and Robbie live life happily together as adults
even though she sent Robbie to prison as a child on a false rape accusation. Throughout this novel,
Briony writes herself in a bad light because [a] person is ... a material thing, easily torn and not
easily mended. (PG. ___); she is trying to atone for herself and the guilt she carries by herself
while never physically atoning her mistake. Did Briony just want the audience to feel bad for
her since she was able to send thoughts and feelings from her mind to her reader s (PG. _____)?
Did she want to help the audience s disdain for the choices that she made? It is up to the reader
to decide whether or not Briony atoned her mistakes made against Robbie and Cecilia. Briony
writes because she feels some sort of remorse because of the effects she caused from her
childhood. She realizes the power of the

The Roman Catholic Church Responded Treatment
The Roman Catholic Church responded treatment of Luther, Huguenots in France, relationship with
the Holy Roman Emperor, the Jesuits and the Council of Trent, treatment of Galileo and other
scientists very differently. Luther was called before Emperor Charles V to recant his beliefs.
Although some German Princes sided with Luther, it was still declared an outlaw. He protected by
a German Prince Frederick the Wise. He translates Erasmus Greek Bible into German. Holy Roman
Emperorand the RCC were political allies. Prince s allied with Luther to indirectly challenge the
emperor. Huguenots in France worked to reform the rest of France, but the Catholic King Henry
III was not about to let that happen. King Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes, this resulted in
driving out hundreds of thousands of his best citizens abroad. The monks at Cluny were
challenging the power of the Holy Roman Emperor, there was also the idea of separation of
church and state. By 1050, King Henry III appointed the Pope he liked which was Clement II.
After his death the archbishops were able to elect the Pope. Henry IV had a serious threat to his
stability. He made his bishops swear loyalty to him. When Gregory excommunicated Henry he
begged for forgiveness and he got it; after Henry was back to placing bishops, he was
excommunicated again. The Germans were eager to see a weakened king siding with the church.
The Holy Roman Empire was no way united, still very strong, but they had no control over its

Asch Conformity Study
1.Identify the study (video) you selected.
The study and video I selected was the ASCH Conformity Experiments video. I was drawn to the
ASCH experiment because I am interested in social behavior. The ASCH conformity experiments
was simple, but there is nothing wrong with a minimalistic approach. I think it s interesting to know
that a simplistic approach to an experiment may yield astounding data.
2.Describe what this study demonstrated about human behavior and mental processes using the
results of the study along with information you have learned in Units 1 3.
The ASCH experiment demonstrated that humans conform easily, and it is scary to know that.

Genes and DNA are part of the nature concept. Nurture shapes us differently than Nature because
nurture deals with our environments. I believe the things we experience outside the home molds us
heavily during the teen periods of devolvement. The ASCH experiment zeros in on nurture
influence. The ASCH experiment subjects were all placed in a room without knowing each other.
The ASCH experiment took place in the physical realm. Influence and conformity may both come
from nature and nurture, but in ASCH experiment video nurture stood out to me.
4.In your own words, describe social observational learning. Is it demonstrated in the study you
selected? Why or why not? Explain your reasoning using reference to the study.
Social observation learning is when a person learns by observing others. Social observation learning
was demonstrated in the ASCH experiment video. Social observation plays a role in the ASCH
experiment in the sense that the subjects neglected their own thought process to avoid judgment.
The subjects sat next to each other, moreover, each male subject observed each other s reactions
and tension due to their togetherness.

Is is important to know that someone in a trance state can not be made to do something which they
find unacceptable. Once under a trance state it can be terminated at any time by the subject (11)
A session of hypnosis begins with a series of suggestions called the hypnotic induction (12)
The hypnotic induction has several stages.
Firstly the preparation stage, whereby therapist and client can discuss what the client is hoping to
achieve through hypnotherapy. Then the induction, where the hypnotist relaxes the client, and
focusses their attention inwards. Then the deepening of induction, which is where the hypnotist
puts the client into a safe place whereby suggestions or instructions can be given
Followed by the reorientation which is where the client is brought back to full consciousness and
awareness. (13)

Immigration Problems
Ayush Patel
American Lit B
Research Paper
27 September , 2017
In 2013, 13 percent of the U.S. population was foreign born. Current projections suggest that by
2065, nearly one in five people in the United States will have been born outside the country (Hing
25).3 Immigration has been an integral part of the United States since its colonial days. Over a
million legal and illegal immigrants take up residence in the United States each year. With the
country struggling to support the huge intake of new comers, life in America has been suffering
tremendously. The excessive stress put upon the welfare system, overuse of the family reunification
laws, and the exploitation of employment based immigration are reasons for immigration reform.
The American Government is trying to solve the deep rooted problems of immigration including
the 1965 law, Chain immigration, and Latino immigration.
Some factors from the past are widely responsible for the present immigration problems in the
United States. A major cause for all of the problems is the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act.
The 1965 Immigration law prioritized the relatives of U.S. citizens, while others were not able to
settle in U.S. (Salam 24).2 The biased national origin quotas of 1920s was replaced by the 1965
law, which focused on family unification ( Hing 25).4 This Act has kept some restrictions for the
immigration from Europe and Asia. The law set numerical restrictions on visas at 170,000 per year.
But, this law has

How I Can Become An Ideal Project Manager
Since I have no experience as a project manager, according what I have collected from above
literatures and what I have perceived in my own point of view, I have the following ideas of how I
can become an ideal project manager.
1. To be a leader
During the past years of working, I have always played the role of team member but never tried to
lead a team to actually accomplish a project, so the most challenging trait for me to learn as a
project manager is to be a leader.
I now know that a project leader should do a lot more than plan, organise, control, coordinate,
monitor and closure. While such activities are all very important and must be correctly done, those
functions are not enough for a good leader to accomplish. That is to say, ... Show more content on

3) Leadership means dealing with risks
During the process of a project, various kind of risk is inevitable because of uncertainties. There is
always possibility for threats which may harm the success or completion of the project.
As a leader, it is best to eliminate the risk before it really cause any loss of the project, which
requires prospective and forward thinking. They are always looking for better ways to take actions
on potential risks. And when risk really happens, leaders should be able to take the procedure to
minimize the adverse effect of a possible loss, which requires fresh information at any time. The
leader should be competent to abstract useful information and find the most efficient ways to deal
with risks.
4) Leadership means the ability to motivate those around you
To motivate people to realize their maximum potential, a good leader can is get all the team
members to perform enthusiastically, confidently. As people around you are from different cultures,
motivating implies listening, trusting, empowering, coaching, enable them to work discreetly and
creatively.
2. Capable of continual and effective monitor
Control and monitor are an important part of every project manager s job, in this part, the project
manager should always think about how to keep the project on track, on time and within budget.
To be honest, I am not a very persistent man, so keep

Rebirth of the U.S. Economy during the Financial Crisis
Introduction A financial crisis is a condition, for various reasons, an organization or organizations
lose a vast part of their worth. In many segments of the economy, a financial crisis happens all the
time. The terms financial crisis and economic crisis are not interchangeable. The total economy is
affected by an economic crisis. A financial crisis may only affect one part of the economy and not
have any effect on the other parts of the segments. The financial crisis which began in 2007 was the

The unemployment rate increased from four and a half percent to nearly ten percent in the
United States. The Big 3 automakers, especially GM were hit hard by layoffs and production
globally. Dealerships, worldwide, had to lay off workers as well. From the later part of 2008 to
mid 2009, approximately 38.5 percent of homeowners were not employed. The financial crisis saw
the worst unemployment rate since the Great Depression of 1929 1939. More than 15 million
workers were unemployed. Approximately 9.5 percent of Americans were employed part time in
order to provide for their families. The highest unemployment rate was recorded in the state of
Michigan at more than 15 percent. Unemployment among African Americans was almost 16
percent; while unemployment among Latinos reached more than 13 percent. The American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act created nearly two million jobs in 2009. This Act was a part of the
stimulus packet signed by President Obama in 2009 to boost the economy. Without government
intervention, the economic recovery could have been more devastating and lasted for many

Kosovo is a self declared independent country in the South Balkans in Europe, it wants independence, but Serbia believes that it is an autonomous province of Serbia. It declared independence in 2008 and there are a lot of reasons why, but there are also some reasons why it should be part of Serbia. Kosovo should be independent because Serbians have committed genocide against ethnic Kosovar Albanians, other countries have broke free from Serbia, thus Kosovo should be able to as well, and three out of the five members of the UN s Big Five are in agreement about the issue (UN.org). China and Russia believe that Kosovo should become independent. One reason is that Serbia has been protected by Russia since WWI when it helped it gain independence. Russia and China are allies, so China agrees with Russia on the issue. On the other side, the US, UK, and France are all in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), so they generally agree with each other, as well as the rest of NATO. • 4. Gravy And She Lives In A Pat Of Butter Based on the poems Gravy by Corrie Lynn White and She lives in a Pat of Butter by Jade Ramsay, women are forced to be a role model in family life and domesticity. Although women generally need to give a great amount of effort to be the best mother or wife, the social expectations from both of the poems want women to be perfect especially in domestic life. In fact, there was even a time when female domesticity became the culture of some upper and middle class Americans back in the nineteenth century (The Cult of Domesticity). Their purpose was to limit womans influences only to familylife or handling chores around the home. Since the poem itself has the title that comes from the name of a food, the narrator is probably eager to talk about her story with food. She firmly disagrees with the societal expectations that women have to know how to cook and for her to at least successfully stir a gravy. She also says in the poem that [she] thought the world wanted [her] to stir the gravy around with a wooden spoon, because as soon as [she] looks away, the gravy would boil over (25 29). This means that no matter how society the society wishes her to be like, she will not always be able to fulfill their expectations. Hence, the failure of preparing a gravy clearly shows that she does not know how to make a gravy like the society think. Furthermore, the narrator is also left in awe as she knows that many people do not even care to follow social expectations. This is stated in the line [she] watched the bird fly over Wells Fargo (31 32). The bird seems to represent other people and flying over Wells Fargo means that they avoid the expectations of society. Towards the end of the poem, she now knows that she can be that other people too and finally leaves the gravy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To each cuvette we added 1 ml of coomassie blue dye and on the blank cuvette we added 20 ul of PBS (Phosphate Buffered Saline). We then added 20 ul of each standard to the respective cuvettes using a new clean tip for each use. Each cuvette was covered with parafilm and inverted to mix allowing it to sit for a total of 5 minutes. We first inserted the blank cuvette into the spectrophotometer and pressed blank once right after we put in each of the cuvettes with the protein concentrations. In between each cuvette we put in a blank before the next step. After the absorbance were recorded, we created the standard curve. We then graphed the standard curve, with solutions and their protein concentrations. We then labeled each cuvette along with a blank. We repeated the process from finding the standard curve with the known solution. We then used the equation from the standard curve in order to find the concentrations of proteins and compared. The concentration is the independent variable which is plotted on the x axis and the absorbance is the dependent variable which is plotted on the y axis. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We ve noted the harmful ingredients and now let s take a closer look at the harm they can do to our body. Firstly, the ingredients in both regular and diet sodas can cause many harmful effects to your body. An average small bottle or can of soda contains over 200 calories, none of which contains any real nutrients for your health. If you consume just one can of soda per day, you will gain 12 pounds in only one year. Following this fact, experts have noted that there is a link between soda consumption and obesity in United States. For an example, according to a 2012 article in Prevalence of obesity and trends in body mass index among US children and adolescents , it is found that two out of three adults and one out of three children in America are overweight or obese. Rising consumption of soda has been a major contributor to the obesity epidemic. Besides, according to an article by American Heart Association (2017), sugar is a pure carbohydrate, and carbohydrates give the body energy, but downing a can of soda of 250 calories isn t helpful. Unless you start doing jumping jacks the second you finish the soda, and keep them up for an hour or so, those carbohydrates will turn to fat. A person can be responsible enough to live on his or her own, make money, pay bills, and yet they are not old enough to purchase or consume any type of alcohol. Underage drinking has been a major controversial issue for years. Teenagers are continuing to buy alcohol with fake identification cards, drink, get into bars, and drink illegally. The MLDA also comes into play with why the drinking age should be lowered. Enforcing an MLDA of 21 is expensive and inefficient. Setting the MLDA at 21 is unconstitutional because it is discrimination against the particular age group of 18 20 year olds. IT would be more effective to spend money on educating youth about alcohol than to spend it on enforcement of drinking laws for 18 20 year olds. The pie chart below shows the proportion of 83 countries MLDAs from ages 14 to 21. People under the age of 21 see alcohol as a forbidden fruit. Forbidden fruit is described as, A badge of rebellion against authority and a symbol of adulthood(Dr. Ruth Engs). If drinking is made legal for people 18 and older, it will seem much better as the curiosity isn t as high and the fruit isn t forbidden anymore. • 8. Sonnet 150 Literary Devices The Dark Lady and the Troubles That She Causes Poetry is oftentimes a fascinating bit of literature. In a short amount of time, one is expected to have a topic and cut to the chase of things. This poem is a sonnet by none other than the legendary Shakespeare. Sonnet 150 has all the makings of a sonnet with the standardized form that makes it unidentifiably Shakespeare. The sonnet follows the rhyme scheme of abab cdcd efef gg which shows three quatrains and one couplet. Sonnet 150 is a one of the later poems that changes significantly from Shakespeare s earlier works about love and crooning about how magical these feelings are. When looking at these later poems, we see Shakespeare acknowledging that love has its faults. These feelings are no longer the perfect centerpiece that can easily blind those in youth. Now that some age has passed, we the reader are in for a more grounded oftentimes colder treat that mirrors reality far more accurately than those of a love struck puppy. This sonnet is actually about beauty, how that beauty is handled, and ends with a truth about two different beings can come to terms with one another with all the flaws that they are riddled with. This poem is about the radiance of woman. The poem doesn t mention any particular woman per say. Because of the way this poem is laid out, I feel like this is a forewarning about the imperfect nature of not only women, but how imperfect love is. They remind me of all the fun I ve had, all the friends I shared memories with at recess, sports games, dances, award assemblies, pep rallies, or anything related to school really. Actually, really looking back I loved elementary, middle, and high schoolall for the reason that it made me who I am today. If it were not for all the classes, extra curriculars, and other school related activities, I would not have the friends I have today, would not know even a quarter of all the math, English, history, science I was taught, and would not have any of the confidence and respect I now withhold as a graduate of 14 whole years of schooling. Messy hair, dirty nails, unlimited friends, imaginations with no limit, and zero worries; Elementary school was an absolute ball. Elementary is a bit of a blur for most as it feels like a lifetime ago, but I remember it pretty well. I attended a school right around the corner from my house in Fontana from Pre K to the 4th grade, until my family and I moved to Eastvale where I had to take a bus every day for 30 minutes each trip just to get to and from school. This was really interesting to me because as a daughter I was really interested to see if any of the themes that I saw reminded of when I was young. Even more than that, however, I was interested to see what might happen to me as I get older, get married, and start having children. While I am young now, I am very eager to settle down and have a familyso I was very curious at the different themes that I would see when I interviewed a married women, who was Named Lucy . The themes that I did see in my research were inequality, a very traditional family dynamic (which I thought was caused by a gender trap), and family myths. The division of household labor in this family was very traditional, the mother, who I interviewed, was the one who did most, if not all, of the household labor along with working a full time job. That led me to believe that they had a very traditional family dynamic, even though that might not be the true ideology of the women I interviewed. I picked up on a few things while I was interviewing her that I think led to the traditional division of labor. I thought that they were very much caught in a gender trap, meaning that they think that they have to do what is typical for their gender. That meant that the childcare and the housework, which is seen as more of a feminine, were up to Lucy. The other things that were seen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have read and analysed many articles which have clearly reflected this and a quote by Pierce Lewis which I feel is needed to start off my discussion says that landscape is something to be looked at, but seldom thought about (Lewis, 1979, p.1). This statement made me start to really think about landscapeand how we must look further than what just meets the naked eye. • 15. Republican Wisconsin Senator, Joseph R. Mccarthy Essay Republican Wisconsin senator, Joseph R. McCarthy, was originally a quiet senator who was fairly unknown and had done nothing extraordinary previous to 1950. The senator changed all that when he delivered a speech in February 1950, in which he leveled allegations that the State Department employed numerous Communists. He claimed to possess a list of these Communist employees, although that list was never produced (Tindall, George Brown, and David Emory Shi). Senator McCarthy s attempt to gain publicity with his outlandish accusations worked. Since the first Red Scare years before the fifties, many Americans continued to be terrified of Communists and their potential ability to corrupt and overrun America. Senator McCarthy played on these fears, and he continued to claim communism had infiltrated every aspect of America; politics, culture and all of American society. Because of the similarity of events from the first Red Scare, this time period of the early fifties in America is often called the second Red Scare. The second Red Scare in America s history actually began in the late forties, previous to McCarthy s emergence in 1950, and it continued on throughout the fifties lasting at least a dozen years (Storrs, Landon R. And how do these effects range in comparison to other variables, such as wealth, military power, or alliances? I hypothesize the following: longer wars have a worse impact on democracies than on dictatorships and mixed regimes, and as a result are shorter. In the first section of this paper, I define key terms used throughout the paper and review literature and theory related to the topic of war and regime type. In the next section, I Background and Literature Review Using [cite] s definition of regime type, I have identified three types of regimes in this paper: democracies, dictatorships, and mixed regimes. Democracies are defined as regimes that do not repress its people and include the highest proportion of the populace; dictatorships are highly repressive and exclude most of the population; and mixed regimes use moderate repression and exclude a significant proportion of their populace (CITE). To understand the reasoning behind my hypothesis, I turn to the democratic and inter democratic peace theories, in which my hypothesis is fundamentally rooted. These theories come from the liberal school of thought in international relations and posit that democracies do not, or are less likely, to go to war, and do not go to war with other democracies (Elman 758). • 26. A Reflection On Spirituality Assessment Essay Introduction Spirituality is a very sensitive topic in any area of the world and when discussing it with a patient is such a vulnerable situation, it becomes even more delicate. It is a topic which can affect the outlook of the patient and how they will get through their condition. A spirituality assessment is important because spirituality is such a powerful thing which can help a person turn a terrible situation into something more bearable. It is vital for nurses to use this tool to help them because it goes beyond medications and intubation trays, it focuses on them as a person. A spirituality assessment is a tool which will help patients on critical care units get through there vulnerable moment in life. Implementation Plan When trying to implement my spirituality assessment in critical care, I would use Rogers change theory which has five different steps; awareness, interest, evaluation, trial, and adoption (Mitchell, 2013). Each of these steps are very important to the success of the spirituality assessment. During the awareness step it is important to identify the importance of the spirituality assessment on the critical care unit. I would explain how spirituality plays an important part in caring for a patient because of the impact it has on the decision they will make (Savel Munro, 2014). I would try to make the stakeholders aware of the influence spirituality will have on the patients on critical care units. I would open their eyes to see the toll those ... Being proud of yourself or someone else is not always bad. However, some believe pride is negative and can change how a person thinks and feels about certain things. It can be taken either way depending on who, why, and when it is. Many people have written articles and have done research to determine whether it is negative or positive. In the novel, Pride and Prejudice, pride is seen throughout the story in people with a lot of money and with good looks. Different things can determine whether pride is good or bad. Many studies have been done by psychologists to determine whether pride is a sin or just an adaptive social emotion. A study was done at Northeastern University by two people, David Desteno and Lisa Williams, who did a research report on their results. The experiment examined the ability of pride to serve as an adaptive emotion within the context of social interaction (Desteno and Williams 284). Pride is often viewed as a deadly sin and high moral behavior (Desteno and Williams). They believe the function of pride is to motivate hedonically costly efforts aimed at acquiring skills that increase one s status and value to one s status and value to one s social group (Desteno and Williams). Advertisements directed at children in schools are misleading. Children think it s okay to eat these food and drink these beverages because they see the advertisements in a place of learning, a place where they believe whatever is taught to them is correct. During the Obama administration, food and beverage advertisingwas a controversial topic in regards to First Lady, Michelle Obama. Food and beverage promotion can be found almost everywhere on school grounds. Schools have food and beverage sponsors, like local restaurants and beverage companies that advertise in the lunchroom and even scoreboards in high schools ( Michelle ). Abandoned and disheveled homes and buildings now line the streets of Chicago and create an eyesore that makes it seem impossible that this area once stood as a symbol of America s great engineers and architects. There is the pure manure, you know, the manure that is just manure and nothing else. There is also the not so pure manure, which is the manure that has the animal s bedding that supplied the manure. While either type of manure will do a garden good, the best type is the one with the bedding mixed into it because it will contain more of the necessary nutrients and soil amendments that, when added to the garden spot, will be beneficial. Unfortunately, the manure that has bedding in it is not the manure that is sold in bags at stores most of the time. This type of manure will have to come directly from the source. So this is where the hunting of the elusive manure for your garden will actually begin. A good place to start looking for home grown manure is the local feed store. The customers that feed stores have are usually the same ones who will have the manure you are looking for. Feed store customers are usually those folks who raise cattle, horses, dogs, hogs, sheep, chickens, goats and other animals. All of these animals produce manure and quite often the people who raise these animals will have pens that the animals are kept in, thus leading to manure that has to go somewhere. Usually the animal owners will gladly part with this manure, but you may have to be willing and ready to collect it yourself. That means bring a shovel and dig in. Other places that can often help with the manure hunt are veterinarian clinics that specialize in large animals, police departments that have mounted officers, colleges and universities that have veterinary programs or agriculture programs and even pet stores may be able to help.
