Latin American Imperialism Research Paper
The countries within the continents of Asia and Africa and Latin American countries were all trying to
overcome the struggles of European imperialism. Europeans had migrated to these areas to establish
an economic system that would benefit European countries. Their attempts toward autonomy was a
battle all in itself, but increased the level of nationalism among the people of these countries. After
World War I, India established organizations known as the Indian National Congress and the Muslim
League to lead their efforts toward independence. Wilson s Fourteen Points and the Russian
Revolution played a major role. Mahandes Gandhi, an Indian nationalist, led the movement toward
independence for India. He was raised as a Hindu and studied law in England. He was opposed to the
idea of the caste or class system especially the exclusion of the Untouchables. During his leadership,
the British allowed the Indians to self rule , but this lifestyle was rejected by the Muslims because the
wanted complete independence. As a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Chinese were seeking the political structure of a republic. Through unequal treaties, foreign states
still remained in control of the Chinese economy. The Chinese expected the Paris Peace Conference to
end the treaty system. Instead, the conference permitted further expansion of Japanese territory into
China. The May Fourth movement publicly exposed that the Chinese were opposed to imperialism.
Through this movement, The Chinese Communist party and The Nationalist Party was formed. The
parties advocated things such as women s equality and democracy. Japan emerged from the Great War
as a world power. The Japanese economy was stimulated as a result of the war. There was political
conflict between the internationalists and the nationalists. The Japanese had guaranteed the integrity of

The Causes And Effects Of Fossil Fuels
Humanity has had thousands of years on Planet Earth to indulge in the many resources Earth has to
offer. Over the years of trial and error within industry, innovation, and creation, humanity began to
destroy the planet without recognizing the dangers that would come to be in later years. Causes and
effects of pollution became increasingly aware to the population, as respiratory diseases began to rise
in numbers. Pollution is the product of human industry. Innovators are forced to find new ways to
keep up with the rapid growth of the population by any means resulting in the deterioration of Earth
and its exhaustible resources. The environment and the population has suffered from many negative
influences that must be prevented in order to ensure the existence of future generations. Industry and
the population is highly dependent upon fossil fuels. Though greener alternatives to the burning of
fossil fuels have been presented, none have been nearly as efficient enough as the burning of fossil
fuels. Emission testing for gas powered forms of transportation have helped to reduce excessive
carbon dioxide levels into the atmosphere, though total emissions increased in the United States from
1990 to 2007 (Rogers). The burning of fossil fuels has remained the most efficient source of energy
for years. As the population continues to grow, an increased dependency on fossil fuels will also
continue to grow. According to a source from Bizfluent from the U.S Energy Information

Examples Of Allusions In Fahrenheit 451
In a world where it is normal to burn books, Montag, not your usual fire fighter must go against the
odds of his society and fight for what he wants. In the book Fahrenheit 451, the author, Ray Bradbury
uses biblical references and allusions to compare Montag s life and struggles to a Christ like figure
and how they both fought for their values and beliefs. Bradbury uses the gospels of Matthew, Luke,
and John to compare both Montag and Jesus. First Matthew 6:22, Consider the lilies of the field
(Bradbury 78) relates to Jesus s sermon on the mount. This bible verse makes Montag reevaluate his
society and believe his people have only focused on the lesser things in life. Secondly Luke 24, the
resurrection of Christ. When the Pheonix died and

Hamlet Nihilist Analysis
To be or not to be a nihilist
In 1927, Martin Heidegger observed that nihilism was already the normal state of man that the
disbelief in life having objective meaning is the most prevalent. If Heidegger is correct, then our
current era is one in which Hamlet would fit in well.. Critics have proposed that Hamlet is too much of
a refined intellectual to commit a callous act such a murder, a more plausible claim is his crises of
inaction not caused merely by a quirk of character or spirituality, it is in fact caused by a lack of spirit:
Hamlet is not religious, he is a nihilist. Through his deep pessimism, incessant brooding, and radical
skepticism, Hamlet shows his colors as a nihilist who believes in nothing and has no purpose. When
Hamlet admits that there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so (Shakespeare, II. ii.
254 55), Hamlet displays his lack of belief in even fundamental concepts such as good and evil; he
dismisses them as mere constructs of the mind. Hamlet should be devoutly religious as a man in
Christian Denmark. However, since he has a self professed lack of belief in good and evil, and
therefore, religion and God, action is not possible because Action requires the veils of illusion.
(Nietzsche 35).
Hamlets nihilistic bent rises to the fore when conversing with Rosencrantz and gentle Guildenstern.
During their first discussion they produce a malignant energy that leads them to deep cynicism and a
demeaning of all good and pure ideas

Literary Review 1. Green Building Market Pacing Three fold Gains by 2013
The U.S. green building market is accelerating at a dramatic rate, potentially tripling over the next five
years. Report confirms a fivefold climb in the value of green building construction starts from 2005 to
2008, and cites prospects for the market reaching the $96 billion to $ 140 billion growth range in five
years . (Rock Products, 2010)
2. A Lean Modeling Protocol for Evaluating Green Project Delivery
The first vital step to leaning an operation is to model or map the processes used to deliver processes.
This indicates where value adding activity exists, and provides the foundation for improvement.
Research is beginning to show that delivery process features are a major factor in the increase of first
cost for green buildings (Mogge 2004), and that owners modifying the traditional project delivery
process to accommodate green buildings can reduce or eliminate their first cost increase for green
buildings (Lipinski 2005).
To achieve their performance benefits, green projects use intense interdisciplinary collaboration
during design, highly complex modeling and analysis, and careful material and system selection
particularly early in the project delivery process (Riley et al. 2004).

As we head into the 4th quarter, you are super focused on ending the year with a bang, right? It is also
the best time to start thinking about your plans for the upcoming year. Take a look at your current year
to date actual figures and answer these questions:
How ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without it you are operating your business blindly. Trying to hit a target that you can t even see. Have
you ever tried to shoot a dart at a bullseye? Very hard to do right. Well operating a business without a
budget is like trying to hit that same bulls eye in the dark. Impossible to hit that target... unless you
can see in the dark.
2. Not tracking against your actuals.
Once you have a budget you must compare how you are performing to that budget regularly.
Minimally once per quarter. If you don t do this critical step then you have no idea how good or bad
you are doing as compared to that plan. Comparing your budget to your actuals helps you understand
what is really going on in your business. It also helps you see how your business is trending year over
year as well as compared to your industry competitors.
3. Not following your budget.
Once you create your budget you MUST FOLLOW IT. Say it with me I WILL FOLLOW MY
BUDGET. There is nothing worse than creating a budget and not following it. Why create a plan and
then place it in a drawer and never look it again? That is the equivalent of not having a budget at all.
Would you climb a mountain without a guide? No. Would you buy a house without determining a
budget around how much house you can afford and the taxes and the insurance and the utilities. No.
So why would you operate your business without a plan? Following your budget allows you to see

Michael Jordan Vs James
Has anyone ever asked you, who is better Michael Jordan or LeBron James? and you do not know
what to say because, in your eyes, they are of equal talent. The statistical evidence and statements
from players around the league will show who truly the better player is. The common argument made
between the two is that Michael Jordan has six championship rings and LeBron James only has two.
Jordan never lost in a finals and James has lost four. Jordan never had to play in a game seven. Those
are all valid reason on why Michael Jordan is better than LeBron James but let s take a deeper look
into each player s career to show the things people don t look at to prove Jordan was the better player.
First, is the offensive side of the game. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jordan never was shy in making it known he wanted the ball when the game is on the line. Even
though LeBron has hit his fair share of game winners or go ahead baskets he has passed up multiple
shots at the end of the game to give a teammate that shot. Maybe he does not have the same killer
instinct or maybe he just does not have the confidence. Either way he shies away from the ball when
the game is on the line. Jordan played a more strategical game while James was usually the bigger
person in his matchups and just put his head down and went to the basket. Jordan also has played an
infamous game while being sick known as the flu game . This game was a in the middle of the 1997
NBA Finals while the series was tied up at two games. (Zach Harper) He went out and scored thirty
five points helping his team to take a game lead on the Jazz. (Zach Harper) James on the other hand
came out of the first game of the 2014 NBA finals with a thigh cramp. He left the game early in the
fourth quarter but then returned to hit a quick basket to put the Heat with in two points and five
minutes left to play. (Royce Young) After the basket he immediately called to the bench for help to be
carried off the court. The team then crumbled and lost the game fifteen points. (Royce Young) This
game set the tone for the series and LeBron s team, Miami Heat, then went to lose the

A Comparison Of Fire And Oedipus The King
Oedipus,Theseus and the Minotaur, Odyssey, Iliad, here are Greek myth well known to be a narrative
depicting supernatural beings, imaginary actions, collective fantasies, ....(Larousse).But what about
the Native American Myth ? Following the reading of three Native myths , The eath on turtle s back
When Grizzles walked up right and Fire , it is possible to notice several similarities such as the myth s
goal, the character and the end. On one hand, the first similarity is the goal of the myth, the function of
the myth. As the Greek myth has a function to explain what people could not account for at the time
for exemple if there was a storm, it was because the gods wanted it. The Native myths have for goals
to explain something relevant to the earth.Indeed The earth on turtle s back explains how the life on
the earth appeared : [...] Then two Swans brought the Sky Woman down. She stepped onto the new
Earth and opened her hand, letting the seeds fall onto the bare soil. From those seeds the trees and the
grass sprand up. Life on Earth had begun. (Caduto and Bruchac). Or it can explain how men acquired
the fire and why he is the only one who belongs it, like in the myth Fire from the Alabama Tribe : Fire
was angry when it saw Bear. It blazed until it was white hot and so bright that Bear had to shade his
eyes with both paws.[...] And now Fire belongs to Man. (Schlosser ) ... Show more content on

Relationship Between Architecture And The Human Body
The Relationship between Architecture and the Human Body
Introduction
The human body is the ultimate tool for discovering the environment. Human anatomy is considered
to be nature s peak of perfection and certain features serve as inspiration for many architects. To study
the relationship between the human body and architecture, one must not be limited to human body
parts resemblance to architectural works but to a larger extent consider human emotions, sensory
nerves, the mind and general human psychology. In essence everything that makes us human. In its
simplest definition Architecture can be described as an art or practice of designing buildings. It is
practiced in a way that accomplishes both practical and communicative or expressive requirements. To
relate it to human body then Architecture can widely define the place, the site, the energy, the systems,
the building, the flora and fauna. These components that bring aesthetic property to humanity apart
from the utilitarian purpose it serves. The perfect balance of a normal human body and the proportions
are incorporated into architecture from a point of view of imitation, idealized allusion and the actual
human use. Evidence of such human incorporation into architecture is seen from the Ancient Greek
Architectures where it was common for tower columns to take shape of a human being like in the

This is a risk that can be understood and managed with proper thought and investment. Political risks
are the complications businesses and governments may face as a result of political decisions or any
political change that changes the expected outcome and value of a given economic action by changing
the probability of achieving business objectives. Political risk faced by firms can be defined as the risk
of a strategic, financial, or personnel loss for a firm because of such nonmarket factors as
macroeconomic and social policies (fiscal, monetary, trade, investment, industrial, income, labour, and
developmental), or events related to political instability (terrorism, riots, coups, civil war, and
insurrection). For a business, the implication for political risk is that there is a measure of likelihood
that political events may complicate its pursuit of earnings through direct impacts (such as taxes or
fees) or indirect impacts (such as opportunity cost forgone). As a result, political risk is similar to an
expected value such that the likelihood of a political event occurring may reduce the desirability of
that investment by reducing its anticipated returns. There are both macro and micro level political
risks. Macro level political risk looks at non project specific risks. Types of risk include government
currency actions, regulatory changes, sovereign credit defaults, corruption, war declarations and

The court determines a person is negligent when they fail to comply with their duty and when their
conduct falls below the standard of care. The standard of care in negligence is established by the law
to protect others against the unreasonable risk of harm. The risk must be foreseeable. Pennsylvania
courts determine a party s standard of care by examining what a reasonable person would do under
similar circumstances. A reasonable person would also consider industry standards, historical
information, and other guiding information when making decisions. This will allow the party to be on
notice . With regarding notice, the question that should be asked is do the facts, circumstances, or
history inform you of potential harm. . One way to determine whether or not someone is a reasonably
prudent person is to use a formula Burden Probability * Injury. The formula is designed to weigh out
the Burden of adequate precautions against the probability of the action occurring and the gravity of
the resulting injury. If the Probability of the Injury of the injury and the level of the injury is higher
than the Burden, then the party will be found negligent.

AKI Case
Frederick was given a preliminary diagnosis of a prerenal AKI. AKI is a complex condition with
various different definitions available, most including a rapid decline in kidney function and the lack
of ability of the kidneys to filter blood, subsequently leading to increased levels of serum creatinine
and BUN levels in the blood (Cheung et al., 2008). AKI is the leading cause of nephrology
consultation in the UK and carries with it high mortality rates (Basile, 2012). The primary causes of an
AKI are hypoxia, ischemia and nephrotoxicity. The main underlying feature of an AKI is a rapid
decrease in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which is strongly linked with a decrease in blood flow
to the kidneys. The GFR depends on the interplay between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is secondary to under perfusion of otherwise normally functioning kidneys and if detected early can
be reversible. In Mr Jones s case, his kidney s experienced hypo perfusion during surgery. Hypo
perfusion consequently causes azotemia due to the excess nitrogenous wastes in the blood.
Medications, such as high doses of dopamine, can cause prerenal kidney injury due to the production
of intrarenal vasoconstriction, which can lead to hypo perfusion of the glomeruli (Nissenson, 1998).
The kidneys have an enormous blood supply and account for 20 25% of cardiac output. This blood
supply is needed for the removal of waste products and the management of fluid and electrolyte
balances. If the blood flow to the kidneys is reduced, this has a decreasing effect on the GFR leading
to a decreased urine output, filtration and reabsorption of filtered material through the glomerulus.
This can lead to further issues and effect other organs in the body. Fredrick experienced a decreased
urine output as a symptom of his reduced GFR. Fredrick s increased respiration rate noted during
assessment was an indicator of his deterioration and alerted the medical team that there was an
underlying issue. During the nurse s assessment, they observed that Frederic had very poor urine
output, which is also linked with the drop in the GFR in the kidneys. Thus, encouraging the nursing
staff to take immediate action with thereputic

Abstract Power reduction is an major challenge in the integrated circuit design since it degrades the
chip performance the reliability. Frequent transistor switching caused due to large IR voltage drops
gives raise to timing violations and logic failures. A new clock control strategy is been introduced in
this paper such that the simultaneous switching of the combinational paths is minimized. This is
achieved by clustering the delay slacks having similar slack values. Once the paths are identified
based on the path delays and their slack values the clustering algorithm determines the path to clusters
in a load balanced manner based on the slack values and each cluster will have a phase shift possible
on its clock depending on the slack.

Low power has emerged as a major goal in today s electronics industry. The motivations for reducing
power consumption differ from application to application. For high performance, portable computers,
such as laptop and notebook computers, the goal is to reduce the power dissipation of the electronics
portion of the system to a point that is about half of the total power dissipation (including that of

Life Changing Experiences In My Life
There have been many painful and life changing experiences in my days, but the most unforgettable
and also life changing experience was the time I was ran over by a golf cart. This story goes to show
that even the most painful and troubling situations can have positive outcomes. God has a plan for
everything that happens in our lives; all we need to do is go in blind and there will be light at the end
of the tunnel. Trust in him, and he will take care of us. It was a cold afternoon and as my family
prepared for church, my older sister decided she would very much enjoy a small ride on the golf cart
that my grandparents had acquired a while back. My sister, in her most kind hearted way, asked if I
wanted to travel with her on the buggy to the church early and, of course, I accepted her invitation on
this luxurious offer. I scurried down the stairs, grabbed my penny loafers, ran back up the stairs, and
out the door to the buggy, which was halted in the driveway with my sister waiting. After I hopped on,
she pulled out of the driveway and traveled down the road on our way to church. The service was very
inspiring, as always, and the knowledge that I had acquired made my day even better. As we walked
out the doors of the church and headed to the buggy, I asked my sister if I could drive back to the
house but, as expected, she declined. A little bit of happiness left my heart as I mumbled, Oh, ok. I
guess I will just walk home.

Lipid Content Of Milk Lab Report
Introduction
This experiment was done to test the affect of lipid content on cupcakes using four different types of
milk. In this experiment, the height was expected to change due to whether or not the fat content
(lipids) appeared to be heavier in one type of milk opposed to the other. Although the lipid content was
tested on cupcakes, the results were still surprisingly existent. The height of the cupcakes were altered
due to what was taken from them using a different ingredient then what was initially expected when
baking four sets of three different cupcakes. If milk with higher lipid content is used to bake cupcakes,
then the height will be affected.

Analysis Of Much Ado About Nothing
Adapting a William Shakespeare play can prove to be a challenge, as so many have done so, making it
difficult to stand apart. Accordingly, Plymouth State University added a modern twist to the play
Much Ado About Nothing, and, despite certain missteps, I considered it successful. Furthermore,
director Jessie Chapman not only changed the time period to a post World War I setting, but included
modern music as well. Accordingly, the costumes were changed to fit the era, including the soldiers
uniforms. Despite consisting of one location, the set design was convincing, and the actors used it
efficiently. Speaking of which, the majority of the cast lived up to the characters they portrayed, with
several standouts. The lighting design had its own intricacies, with the color of the background light
changing based on the time of day or when certain characters appear. The sound only played a role
when the background music played, of which I question the choices for music. Although the play
plodded during certain scenes, other scenes, like that of Benedick and Beatrice eavesdropping on
conversations, never ceased to entertain. Ultimately, the play served as a worthy adaptation of
Shakespeare s classic story.

Gender Gap In Science
Women now make up half the national workforce, earn more college and graduate degrees than men,

The NBA Should Enforce a Hard Salary Cap
How many of you sports fans out there are sick of paying twenty five dollars for a lousy seat at an
NBA game? How many of you are sick of seeing the same teams in the finals every year? I m sure
there are thousands of you out there that feel this way, as do I. The way we can fix these problems is to
demand that the NBA enforce a hard salary cap. A hard salary cap would lower ticket prices, allow for
more teams to be more competitive and eliminate the possibility of any future lockouts. If the three
things listed above aren t met, it s hard to say if the NBA will survive at all. I want to see the NBA

( 1 ) The players realize that they are eliminating their average fan and they don t care. We as fans
should not pay these outlandish ticket prices. A hard salary cap is the only thing that will lower
salaries and ticket prices. If ticket prices aren t lowered, I personally feel that the players can kiss their
pay checks goodbye. But what do other people think.
Some people believe that NBA arenas will fill up in spite of high ticket prices. Just last year Michael
Jordan made 33.14 million dollars while the whole Chicago Bulls salary cap was 26.9 million, and all
season long seats were filled. That means to some that no matter the amount, people will continue to
attend NBA games.
To the people that believe this, I must remind them of Major League Baseball and the situation that
they faced just a few years back. First, players salaries skyrocketed to obscene levels, alienating their
average fan. Next, the players couldn t decide how to divide up their millions. Finally, they quit
playing the game and their fans quit caring about Major League Baseball. Does any of this sound
familiar? This is exactly what s happening in the NBA right now. If it happened to the American
Pastime it can, and certainly will, happen to the NBA. Yet people, in spite of the lower ticket prices

looks at high school with a different perspective. Some love it, some hate it, and some just go because

Symbolism In If This Is A Man By Primo Levi
Imagine getting captured, being taken away from everything, and not being able to do anything about
it. Imagine being forced into hard, pain intencing labour with the thought being planted in the back of
your mind, that as the days approach, so does death. In Primo Levi s novel Survival in Auschwitz
(formally titled; If This Is A Man) ,the author argues that although the prisoners in the concentration
camps suffer, it all ended up to the prisoners becoming free from the camps. The author uses imagery
in the form of the other prisoners and personal experiences to give help the reader visualize what is
happening in the novel. Symbolism in the form of his hometown and how it goes from being an awful
place to looking like heaven, the author also uses symbolism in the form dawn. Repetition is also used
in the form of the awful and uncomfortable wooden shoes the prisoners had to wear. Levi utilizes
symbolism quite effectively in to prove that suffering leads to freedom. A quote used Dawn came on
us like a betrayer, it seemed as though the new [sun] rose as an ally of our enemies to assist in our...

event, that brings a new day and all the problems from yesterday are not an issue anymore. However,

The Quiet World of Written Words: How I Discovered Literature It was a time of long hair and stealth
window escapes at the midnight hour, a time of skipping class and anti establishment sentiment

aggressive energy, anger was the emotion with which I chose to express myself. Naturally, I found
fuel for the fire in a band named Rage Against the Machine. Front man Zach de la Rocha put the

Was he flesh as I? Was he even a man, or was he just a ghost after all? I was clueless and perplexed.
Consequently, I took it upon my teenage self to venture out in order to discover just who he was.
Though I was prepared to comb through every article necessary, a simple Google search was all the
elbow grease it took to unearth the mystery: Tom Joad is the main character of a novel written by John
Steinbeck, titled The Grapes of Wrath. I bought the book, and it was then that I branched out from
raging sound waves into the quiet and meticulous world of written words. The year was 2008; and the
first decade of the new millennium was drawing to an end on an extraordinarily low point in America

apocalyptic collapse of the world economy, had it not been for governmental intervention. The
financial crises tattooed drastic and lasting effects on the lives of the majority of Americans; among
other things, many lost their homes, savings, and their investments. Needless to say, there was an
overall sense of despair throughout the heartland, and the big questions on everyone s minds were:
What do we do now? and Where do we go from here?

The Birth Of Moses Moses
Moses

Exodus 2:1 10 The birth of Moses
Moses was born to two Levites. His mother hid him for three months as the pharaoh was killing all the
Hebrew s children. When she couldn t hid him she made a basket, put him in it, and floated it down
the river. The pharaoh s daughter found the baby and took pity on it. She nurtured the baby and took it
as her own.
Exodus 3:1 4:17 God speaks to Moses through the burning bush
Moses was herding is Father in law s flock and took it past the wilderness. A bush was set alight and
was not being consumed. Moses went to look at this bush and God called out to him. Moses took of
his sandals and hid his face from God as he was scared of him. God tells Moses he must go into Egypt
and free the Israelite slaves. God proceeds to tell Moses to tell the Israelites he was sent by The Lord,
the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
Moses question the Lord on how he would prove that he was indeed sent by the Lord. God told Moses
to throw his staff on the ground, the staff turned into a snake. He then told Moses to pick up the snake
by the tail, the snake turned back into a staff. God then gave Moses two more ways to prove he really
was sent by God. One of them was to put his hand into his cloak and take it out again. Once he did this
his hand turn leprous and when he put it back into and out of his cloak it went back to normal. The
other proof was to pour a bucket of Nile river water into

Communities On The Internet That Anyone Can Join Nowadays...
There are many communities on the Internet that anyone can join nowadays. No matter what someone
s interest is, more than likely there is some community on the Internet for them to join, especially if it
is on social media. One thing that most teenagers do is go to a university, and sometimes going away
from your parents and starting an independent life can be quite scary. There is a community online
called The Student Room, which is for anyone that is applying to universities, just moving to a
college, or is already attending. Even though there are plenty of communities that are like The Student
Room, each community has its own characteristics that make it unique to itself. Whether that is the
type of people that are in the community to the type of tools that are used to accomplish their goals,
each community is similar to others but different in ways that make them successful.
In order to identify what makes a community different, one must analyze the activity system and from
there on figure out what makes it unique. Kain and Wardle state that an activity system is a group of
people who share a common object and motive over time, as well as the broad range of tools they use
together to act on that object and realize that motive (275). This definition of an activity system fits
the community The Student Room because at the end of the day all the students that are a member of
the community just want to graduate from college with ease and still have fun. They use a broad

Bill Cosby Medal Of Freedom Analysis
Some people are requesting the US government to revoke Bill Cosby s Medal of Freedom, after more
details have emerged in the rape allegations against the comedian. On Wednesday (July 15th),
President Obama addressed those seeking the revocation of Cosby s medal. There s no precedent for
revoking a medal. We don t have that mechanism, the President answered. While most people may
have expected President Obama to end his statement with that answer, he instead commented on what
he defines as rape. If you give a woman or a man, for that matter, without his or her knowledge, a drug
and then have sex with that person without consent, that s rape. This country, and civilized country,
should have no tolerance for rape, President Obama stated. Even though Cosby continues to deny the
rape allegations, an old deposition has surfaced and it now appears the rape accusations made by
countless women are true. During the deposition, Cosby admitted he had prescriptions for quaaludes

Medicine In The Elizabethan Era
Herbal Remedies and Poisons in Elizabethan Times
In this day and age, there are millions of pharmaceuticals out there for all kinds of diseases and
conditions, but where did all of this start? The creation of medicines most likely started when people
discovered the healing properties plants contained. Today, civilization has the knowledge and
technology to extract elements from plants to produce more chemically engineered medicines. The
real question is how did medicines develop from mashing up leaves in order to lessen an infuriating
rash to just popping a pill to nurse or illness? Medicines evolved by the scientific method: series of
research and experiments. During the Elizabethan era, research and experimentation attained a

Medicines were mostly produced to cure diseases. Back in the 1600s scurvy and malaria were huge
problems that needed to be dealt with. As mentioned in previous paragraph malaria was treated by the
bark of the Cinchona tree and is still used today. The bark of the Cinchona tree (called quina quina by
the indigenous Peruvians), found in the rain forests along the Amazon River in the Andes of South
America, contained an ingredient called quinine, which is still used in the treatment of malaria, a
disease transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito and one of the oldest plagues of mankind
(Cassell, Dank K., and Cynthia A. Sanoski). This shows that achievements made back then are still
important to this date. Scurvy was a disease caused by vitamin deficiency, but that was not known
back then. Jacques Cartier is a French explorer whose crew got infected with scurvy. Jacques and his
crew came in contact with an Iroquois tribe in the New World, who knew how to cure scurvy. The
women of the tribe would use juniper needles and bark to make a tea and use the leftover tea to wash
the affected person s leg. Juniper needles and bark contain a lot of vitamins the human body needs, so
when the affected person drank the juniper tea they got all the vitamins they lost back in turn curing
scurvy. Poisons also had reasons why they were needed. Hemlock and aconite are deadly poisons

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have been competing for a decade with Sony dominating the market
throughout most of the years because of their superior technological products. The video games
industry faces an entirely new rivalry situation. In 2008, Sony lost its strong position on the market,
because of Nintendo s success with their dynamic Wii over Sony s high tech PlayStation 3 and
Windows Xbox 360. Although the Wii was technologically much less advanced than PS3 and Xbox
360, the Wii s cheaper price, ease of use, innovative motion sensitive controller, and simple but fun
games, made the console a hit all demographics from 9 to 65 years old, male and female. All these
factors resulted in Nintendo s Wii dominating sales and surpassing Sony s by an impressive ratio of
2:1. With the competition in the video games industry getting more intense, the next steps of the video
game companies become more crucial for their positioning on the market. Due to the low product
differentiation, the next market leader will be the platform provider that manages to offer an
innovative gaming experience and a wider population of buyers that include all demographics.

Poverty and Its Impact on Development in the Caribbean
The aim of every Caribbean country is to realize growth and development over time so as to achieve
first world status. Most of the Caribbean countries are ranked as middle income countries. These
countries realize that achieving first world status is a long term initiative given the many social
problems that we face as a Caribbean nation. Among the many social problems that we face, poverty
is the most pervasive of them all. Despite the effort of many of these countries to try and eradicate
poverty it continues to account for the slow pace at which these countries develop. Commenting on
the Caribbean, Carlson (1999) points to two key factors which have greatly impeded the spread and
potential for economic growth and development; inequity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inability of Caribbean economies to generate jobs, especially a greater proportion of higher
paying jobs, is thus one of the underlying reasons for the persistence of poverty. The second major
reason for widespread poverty in the Caribbean is inequality of income and wealth within the
countries. Measurement of income inequality carried out in thirteen Caribbean countries between 1996
and 2002 show significant income inequality. The extent of inequality being greater in St. Vincent and
the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Grenada, Jamaica and Belize, all of which are countries with a substantial
incidence of poverty. Income inequality generates social inequality and social exclusion. A less
unequal income distribution would raise income levels among the poor, transiting some of them out of
poverty, thereby reducing the extent of social exclusion and disaffection. Inequality of wealth implies
unequal access to financial and physical resources as a basis for income generation. Similarly to
income, therefore, a less unequal distribution of wealth would be consistent with a lower incidence of
poverty. A third is that there is global inequality of income, access to resources, and in consumption.
Evidence produced by a number of studies show conclusively that the distribution of income between
rich and poor countries has

conducting. When a study is new, the amount of existing studies could be insufficient, which need
more research to be conducted. Another weakness when using secondary analysis is the reliability of
the data itself. Secondary data such as the General Social Survey (GSS) has numerous quantitative
data, but some arbitrary measures and non exhaustive measures in the GSS can make interpretation
difficult. When using data, researchers need to know who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On Ice Cubes
I circled the boy in the right in the snowman cartoon because his position of thinking is that the jacket
will keep the snowman cold and stop him from melting. Covering the snowman with a jacket will
prevent him from melting and will allow him to last a little bit longer because the jacket will trap the
air and heat going through so easily, which will stop the snowman from melting. The jacket will
protect the snowman from the outside air. My predictions for the ice cubes are that, first the
unwrapped one will melt faster comparing to all the others ice cubes that are wrapped in plastic,
aluminum foil, newspaper and hand towel. The unwrapped one will melt faster because the air will be
in direct contact with it giving energy to ice to melt.

Canterbury Tales Character Analysis
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is a collection of stories referring to a group of pilgrims on
a journey to the Canterbury Cathedral. Geoffrey Chaucer, the author was born in the year of 1343 in
the beautiful city of London, and later died on October 25th in 1400. Geoffrey began his adulthood
fighting for england in the Hundred Years War. After the war he pursued his passion in writing and
English literature, beginning known as the Father of English . His favorite style was Vernacular
Literature. He is also the first poet to be buried in Westminster Abbey s Poets Corner.
Throughout the Pardoner s Tale he preaches about greed, drinking, blasphemy, and gambling but in
the Pardoner s Prologue he admits to committing these sins himself. In the Tale itself the pardoner also
condemns to people who drink and says, Witness the Bible, which is most express/That lust is bred of
wine and drunkenness . Each character s tale is started with an introduction to the characters story,
followed by their story, and then an epilogue, which wraps the story up... The characters tell the other
characters the theme they will be addressing, and then the conclusion they can draw from that theme,
Morality is a major theme present in these tales. The characters are introduced in a descending order
of morality, where they are also split into three classes: the clergy, the nobility, and the peasants and
commoners. The reason Chaucer uses social commentary when describing the characters in the
prologue is for example the knights are supposed to be chivalrous and noble, but instead the chaucer
describes his knights as such. The reason 29 men are on there way to the Canterbury Cathedral is to
visit the Shrine of St. Thomas Becket. During their voyage they all share multiple stories, a bright idea
is brought up to make a wager saying they will give a prize to the person who tells the best story.
Geoffrey Chaucer, reexamines those who play a more stereotypical role in the book than others and
help re create a new role for them to be twisted into society with. Chaucer discusses different
stereotypes and separates his characters from the social norm by giving them highly ironic and/or
unusual characteristics. Specifically, in the

Slavery in Roman Republic
During the Roman Republic, Ancient Rome was at its very beginnings and a civilization was just
being created. Like any other civilization there were different levels of status between classes and
several positions of power in which people could obtain. Subsequently, just as there were people of
power and wealth, there were also people of little to no power and poverty. The Ancient Romans
utilized the institution of slavery to help promote their civilization and became a major factor in the
economy of the Roman Republic. In a way slaves helped shape Rome into what it is today. Without
slavery in Ancient Rome, history could have been written differently when considering Rome as a
powerful city and civilization. Slavery had become a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At times the militia required able men to report for war. If a man had more than a certain number of
slaves, sometimes it was twenty; they would be excused from serving in the war. Therefore, many
men were motivated to buy slaves. This type of market helped the economy of Ancient Rome expand
even further.
There were a number of Roman laws regarding slavery, and these too, changed over time. In the
Republican period, slaves had no rights and were always subject to the whims of their owners. They
did have some legal standing, however. They were allowed to act as witnesses in trials, and could gain
freedom either through their owner s gratitude after loyal service or by buying it through the meager
earnings they might collect over a lifetime of service. For example, owners in the Republic had the
right to kill or mutilate slaves at a whim, but later imperial laws took this right away, though in
practice this law could be largely ignored. This represents how valued slaves were to the Roman
people.
Despite harsh stereotypes of the institution of slavery there were not overwhelming reports of harsh
conditions for slaves during the time of the Republic. Eventually, the Roman slaves were treated as
members of the family unit in the earlier days of slavery. Their punishments were mild, and they were
given holidays from their regular duties on certain occasions and festivals.

Tom Sawyer Quotes And Analysis
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer all started with a an adventurous and ignorant young boy. He sneaks
out the house one night with one of his friends, leaving them hiding in a graveyard and witnessing the
murder of Dr. Robinson. Things go downhill from there, leaving Muff Potter to be falsely convicted of
the Murder due to the lying words of Injun Joe, Robinson s real murderer. Once Tom returns from a
risky pirate trip, Tom begins to search for hidden treasure, which ultimately leads to a rundown with
vengeful Injun Joe. Mark Twain, author of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, has cultivated Tom into
someone who takes one too many risks without weighing the consequences or rewards against the risk
itself. But what motivates Tom to do such illogical things. Tom s motivation for his risks are on the
account of friends and family. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knows sneaking out is dangerous and he knows Huckleberry Finn is not most trustworthy. This is
shown when Tom says, Huckleberry was cordially hated by the mothers of the town, because he was
idle and lawless and vulgar and bad. (pg.39) The people in the town disliked Huckleberry and Tom
knew that. Even the school teachers furiously punish him once they found out that he had done such
small thing as have a conversation with him. Tom knew about the risk, but he took the chance anyway
for such a small reward as removing warts or his hands and making friends with the well known
Huckleberry Finn. His risk does not pay off, as he ended up witnessing Dr. Robinson s murder, and
ending up in a tight spot with Injun Joe. But it is clear that friendship is a high priority on Tom s

Europeans had migrated to these areas to establish an economic system that would benefit European countries. Their attempts toward autonomy was a battle all in itself, but increased the level of nationalism among the people of these countries. After World War I, India established organizations known as the Indian National Congress and the Muslim League to lead their efforts toward independence. Wilson s Fourteen Points and the Russian Revolution played a major role. Mahandes Gandhi, an Indian nationalist, led the movement toward independence for India. He was raised as a Hindu and studied law in England. He was opposed to the idea of the caste or class system especially the exclusion of the Untouchables. Over the years of trial and error within industry, innovation, and creation, humanity began to destroy the planet without recognizing the dangers that would come to be in later years. Causes and effects of pollution became increasingly aware to the population, as respiratory diseases began to rise in numbers. Pollution is the product of human industry. Innovators are forced to find new ways to keep up with the rapid growth of the population by any means resulting in the deterioration of Earth and its exhaustible resources. The environment and the population has suffered from many negative influences that must be prevented in order to ensure the existence of future generations. Industry and the population is highly dependent upon fossil fuels. Though greener alternatives to the burning of fossil fuels have been presented, none have been nearly as efficient enough as the burning of fossil fuels. Emission testing for gas powered forms of transportation have helped to reduce excessive carbon dioxide levels into the atmosphere, though total emissions increased in the United States from 1990 to 2007 (Rogers). The burning of fossil fuels has remained the most efficient source of energy for years. As the population continues to grow, an increased dependency on fossil fuels will also continue to grow. • 6. Hamlet Nihilist Analysis To be or not to be a nihilist In 1927, Martin Heidegger observed that nihilism was already the normal state of man that the disbelief in life having objective meaning is the most prevalent. If Heidegger is correct, then our current era is one in which Hamlet would fit in well.. Critics have proposed that Hamlet is too much of a refined intellectual to commit a callous act such a murder, a more plausible claim is his crises of inaction not caused merely by a quirk of character or spirituality, it is in fact caused by a lack of spirit: Hamlet is not religious, he is a nihilist. Through his deep pessimism, incessant brooding, and radical skepticism, Hamlet shows his colors as a nihilist who believes in nothing and has no purpose. When Hamlet admits that there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so (Shakespeare, II. ii. 254 55), Hamlet displays his lack of belief in even fundamental concepts such as good and evil; he dismisses them as mere constructs of the mind. Hamlet should be devoutly religious as a man in Christian Denmark. However, since he has a self professed lack of belief in good and evil, and therefore, religion and God, action is not possible because Action requires the veils of illusion. (Nietzsche 35). Hamlets nihilistic bent rises to the fore when conversing with Rosencrantz and gentle Guildenstern. During their first discussion they produce a malignant energy that leads them to deep cynicism and a demeaning of all good and pure ideas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This indicates where value adding activity exists, and provides the foundation for improvement. Research is beginning to show that delivery process features are a major factor in the increase of first cost for green buildings (Mogge 2004), and that owners modifying the traditional project delivery process to accommodate green buildings can reduce or eliminate their first cost increase for green buildings (Lipinski 2005). To achieve their performance benefits, green projects use intense interdisciplinary collaboration during design, highly complex modeling and analysis, and careful material and system selection particularly early in the project delivery process (Riley et al. 2004). The statistical evidence and statements from players around the league will show who truly the better player is. AKI is a complex condition with various different definitions available, most including a rapid decline in kidney function and the lack of ability of the kidneys to filter blood, subsequently leading to increased levels of serum creatinine and BUN levels in the blood (Cheung et al., 2008). AKI is the leading cause of nephrology consultation in the UK and carries with it high mortality rates (Basile, 2012). The primary causes of an AKI are hypoxia, ischemia and nephrotoxicity. The main underlying feature of an AKI is a rapid decrease in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which is strongly linked with a decrease in blood flow to the kidneys. The GFR depends on the interplay between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is secondary to under perfusion of otherwise normally functioning kidneys and if detected early can be reversible. In Mr Jones s case, his kidney s experienced hypo perfusion during surgery. Hypo perfusion consequently causes azotemia due to the excess nitrogenous wastes in the blood. Medications, such as high doses of dopamine, can cause prerenal kidney injury due to the production of intrarenal vasoconstriction, which can lead to hypo perfusion of the glomeruli (Nissenson, 1998). The kidneys have an enormous blood supply and account for 20 25% of cardiac output. This blood supply is needed for the removal of waste products and the management of fluid and electrolyte balances. If the blood flow to the kidneys is reduced, this has a decreasing effect on the GFR leading to a decreased urine output, filtration and reabsorption of filtered material through the glomerulus. This can lead to further issues and effect other organs in the body. Fredrick experienced a decreased urine output as a symptom of his reduced GFR. Fredrick s increased respiration rate noted during assessment was an indicator of his deterioration and alerted the medical team that there was an underlying issue. During the nurse s assessment, they observed that Frederic had very poor urine output, which is also linked with the drop in the GFR in the kidneys. Peak Power Reduction by controlling clock using path clustering Sindhu V1 and Mr.P.Nagarajan2 1PG Scholar, Dept of ECE, Vivekanandha College of Engineering for Women, ssshaadhu@gmail.com 2Assistant professor,Dept of ECE, Vivekanandha college of engineering for Women ,greennagarajan@gmail.com Abstract Power reduction is an major challenge in the integrated circuit design since it degrades the chip performance the reliability. Frequent transistor switching caused due to large IR voltage drops gives raise to timing violations and logic failures. A new clock control strategy is been introduced in this paper such that the simultaneous switching of the combinational paths is minimized. This is achieved by clustering the delay slacks having similar slack values. Once the paths are identified based on the path delays and their slack values the clustering algorithm determines the path to clusters in a load balanced manner based on the slack values and each cluster will have a phase shift possible on its clock depending on the slack. INTRODUCTION Low power has emerged as a major goal in today s electronics industry. The motivations for reducing power consumption differ from application to application. For high performance, portable computers, such as laptop and notebook computers, the goal is to reduce the power dissipation of the electronics portion of the system to a point that is about half of the total power dissipation (including that of display and hard disk). God has a plan for everything that happens in our lives; all we need to do is go in blind and there will be light at the end of the tunnel. Trust in him, and he will take care of us. It was a cold afternoon and as my family prepared for church, my older sister decided she would very much enjoy a small ride on the golf cart that my grandparents had acquired a while back. My sister, in her most kind hearted way, asked if I wanted to travel with her on the buggy to the church early and, of course, I accepted her invitation on this luxurious offer. I scurried down the stairs, grabbed my penny loafers, ran back up the stairs, and out the door to the buggy, which was halted in the driveway with my sister waiting. After I hopped on, she pulled out of the driveway and traveled down the road on our way to church. The service was very inspiring, as always, and the knowledge that I had acquired made my day even better. As we walked out the doors of the church and headed to the buggy, I asked my sister if I could drive back to the house but, as expected, she declined. Accordingly, Plymouth State University added a modern twist to the play Much Ado About Nothing, and, despite certain missteps, I considered it successful. Furthermore, director Jessie Chapman not only changed the time period to a post World War I setting, but included modern music as well. Accordingly, the costumes were changed to fit the era, including the soldiers uniforms. Despite consisting of one location, the set design was convincing, and the actors used it efficiently. Speaking of which, the majority of the cast lived up to the characters they portrayed, with several standouts. The lighting design had its own intricacies, with the color of the background light changing based on the time of day or when certain characters appear. The sound only played a role when the background music played, of which I question the choices for music. Although the play plodded during certain scenes, other scenes, like that of Benedick and Beatrice eavesdropping on conversations, never ceased to entertain. Ultimately, the play served as a worthy adaptation of Shakespeare s classic story. • 30. Symbolism In If This Is A Man By Primo Levi Imagine getting captured, being taken away from everything, and not being able to do anything about it. Imagine being forced into hard, pain intencing labour with the thought being planted in the back of your mind, that as the days approach, so does death. In Primo Levi s novel Survival in Auschwitz (formally titled; If This Is A Man) ,the author argues that although the prisoners in the concentration camps suffer, it all ended up to the prisoners becoming free from the camps. The author uses imagery in the form of the other prisoners and personal experiences to give help the reader visualize what is happening in the novel. Symbolism in the form of his hometown and how it goes from being an awful place to looking like heaven, the author also uses symbolism in the form dawn. Repetition is also used in the form of the awful and uncomfortable wooden shoes the prisoners had to wear. Levi utilizes symbolism quite effectively in to prove that suffering leads to freedom. A quote used Dawn came on us like a betrayer, it seemed as though the new [sun] rose as an ally of our enemies to assist in our... destruction (13) is the first hint of the author starting to suffer. Normally, dawn is a happy, carefree event, that brings a new day and all the problems from yesterday are not an issue anymore. However, in this case, dawn is guaranteeing death and suffering to the prisoners. The author also uses his hometown to show the reader the transition from suffering to freedom. In the ... • 31. The Quiet World Of Written Words The Quiet World of Written Words: How I Discovered Literature It was a time of long hair and stealth window escapes at the midnight hour, a time of skipping class and anti establishment sentiment spewing forth from my foul, juvenile, remorseless mouth. I was mad without reason. Full of aggressive energy, anger was the emotion with which I chose to express myself. Naturally, I found fuel for the fire in a band named Rage Against the Machine. Front man Zach de la Rocha put the emotions I was experiencing into a lyrical poetic, militant, rap core metal form. It was unlike anything I had ever heard before: pure, intellectual, and most of all, unfiltered. Initially, I was drawn to Rage because of its sound and raw musical talent with their ... Was he even a man, or was he just a ghost after all? I was clueless and perplexed. Consequently, I took it upon my teenage self to venture out in order to discover just who he was. Though I was prepared to comb through every article necessary, a simple Google search was all the elbow grease it took to unearth the mystery: Tom Joad is the main character of a novel written by John Steinbeck, titled The Grapes of Wrath. I bought the book, and it was then that I branched out from raging sound waves into the quiet and meticulous world of written words. The year was 2008; and the first decade of the new millennium was drawing to an end on an extraordinarily low point in America s economic history. What has come to be known as The Great Recession would have led to an apocalyptic collapse of the world economy, had it not been for governmental intervention. The financial crises tattooed drastic and lasting effects on the lives of the majority of Americans; among other things, many lost their homes, savings, and their investments. Needless to say, there was an overall sense of despair throughout the heartland, and the big questions on everyone s minds were: What do we do now? and Where do we go from here? As I read word after word and page after page, I came to the realization that the world in which I lived was in fact not that far from the problems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exodus 3:1 4:17 God speaks to Moses through the burning bush Moses was herding is Father in law s flock and took it past the wilderness. A bush was set alight and was not being consumed. Moses went to look at this bush and God called out to him. Moses took of his sandals and hid his face from God as he was scared of him. God tells Moses he must go into Egypt and free the Israelite slaves. God proceeds to tell Moses to tell the Israelites he was sent by The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Moses question the Lord on how he would prove that he was indeed sent by the Lord. God told Moses to throw his staff on the ground, the staff turned into a snake. He then told Moses to pick up the snake by the tail, the snake turned back into a staff. God then gave Moses two more ways to prove he really was sent by God. One of them was to put his hand into his cloak and take it out again. Once he did this his hand turn leprous and when he put it back into and out of his cloak it went back to normal. No matter what someone s interest is, more than likely there is some community on the Internet for them to join, especially if it is on social media. One thing that most teenagers do is go to a university, and sometimes going away from your parents and starting an independent life can be quite scary. There is a community online called The Student Room, which is for anyone that is applying to universities, just moving to a college, or is already attending. Even though there are plenty of communities that are like The Student Room, each community has its own characteristics that make it unique to itself. Whether that is the type of people that are in the community to the type of tools that are used to accomplish their goals, each community is similar to others but different in ways that make them successful. In order to identify what makes a community different, one must analyze the activity system and from there on figure out what makes it unique. Kain and Wardle state that an activity system is a group of people who share a common object and motive over time, as well as the broad range of tools they use together to act on that object and realize that motive (275). This definition of an activity system fits the community The Student Room because at the end of the day all the students that are a member of the community just want to graduate from college with ease and still have fun. Bill Cosby Medal Of Freedom Analysis Some people are requesting the US government to revoke Bill Cosby s Medal of Freedom, after more details have emerged in the rape allegations against the comedian. On Wednesday (July 15th), President Obama addressed those seeking the revocation of Cosby s medal. There s no precedent for revoking a medal. We don t have that mechanism, the President answered. While most people may have expected President Obama to end his statement with that answer, he instead commented on what he defines as rape. If you give a woman or a man, for that matter, without his or her knowledge, a drug and then have sex with that person without consent, that s rape. This country, and civilized country, should have no tolerance for rape, President Obama stated. Medicine In The Elizabethan Era Herbal Remedies and Poisons in Elizabethan Times In this day and age, there are millions of pharmaceuticals out there for all kinds of diseases and conditions, but where did all of this start? The creation of medicines most likely started when people discovered the healing properties plants contained. Today, civilization has the knowledge and technology to extract elements from plants to produce more chemically engineered medicines. The real question is how did medicines develop from mashing up leaves in order to lessen an infuriating rash to just popping a pill to nurse or illness? As mentioned in previous paragraph malaria was treated by the bark of the Cinchona tree and is still used today. The bark of the Cinchona tree (called quina quina by the indigenous Peruvians), found in the rain forests along the Amazon River in the Andes of South America, contained an ingredient called quinine, which is still used in the treatment of malaria, a disease transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito and one of the oldest plagues of mankind (Cassell, Dank K., and Cynthia A. Although the Wii was technologically much less advanced than PS3 and Xbox 360, the Wii s cheaper price, ease of use, innovative motion sensitive controller, and simple but fun games, made the console a hit all demographics from 9 to 65 years old, male and female. All these factors resulted in Nintendo s Wii dominating sales and surpassing Sony s by an impressive ratio of 2:1. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The inability of Caribbean economies to generate jobs, especially a greater proportion of higher paying jobs, is thus one of the underlying reasons for the persistence of poverty. The second major reason for widespread poverty in the Caribbean is inequality of income and wealth within the countries. Measurement of income inequality carried out in thirteen Caribbean countries between 1996 and 2002 show significant income inequality. The extent of inequality being greater in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Grenada, Jamaica and Belize, all of which are countries with a substantial incidence of poverty. Income inequality generates social inequality and social exclusion. A less unequal income distribution would raise income levels among the poor, transiting some of them out of poverty, thereby reducing the extent of social exclusion and disaffection. Inequality of wealth implies unequal access to financial and physical resources as a basis for income generation. Similarly to income, therefore, a less unequal distribution of wealth would be consistent with a lower incidence of poverty. Geoffrey Chaucer, the author was born in the year of 1343 in the beautiful city of London, and later died on October 25th in 1400. Geoffrey began his adulthood fighting for england in the Hundred Years War. After the war he pursued his passion in writing and English literature, beginning known as the Father of English . His favorite style was Vernacular Literature. He is also the first poet to be buried in Westminster Abbey s Poets Corner. Throughout the Pardoner s Tale he preaches about greed, drinking, blasphemy, and gambling but in the Pardoner s Prologue he admits to committing these sins himself. In the Tale itself the pardoner also condemns to people who drink and says, Witness the Bible, which is most express/That lust is bred of wine and drunkenness . Each character s tale is started with an introduction to the characters story, followed by their story, and then an epilogue, which wraps the story up... The characters are introduced in a descending order of morality, where they are also split into three classes: the clergy, the nobility, and the peasants and commoners. The reason Chaucer uses social commentary when describing the characters in the prologue is for example the knights are supposed to be chivalrous and noble, but instead the chaucer describes his knights as such. The reason 29 men are on there way to the Canterbury Cathedral is to visit the Shrine of St. Thomas Becket. If a man had more than a certain number of slaves, sometimes it was twenty; they would be excused from serving in the war. Therefore, many men were motivated to buy slaves. This type of market helped the economy of Ancient Rome expand even further. There were a number of Roman laws regarding slavery, and these too, changed over time. In the Republican period, slaves had no rights and were always subject to the whims of their owners. They did have some legal standing, however. They were allowed to act as witnesses in trials, and could gain freedom either through their owner s gratitude after loyal service or by buying it through the meager earnings they might collect over a lifetime of service. For example, owners in the Republic had the right to kill or mutilate slaves at a whim, but later imperial laws took this right away, though in practice this law could be largely ignored. This represents how valued slaves were to the Roman people. Despite harsh stereotypes of the institution of slavery there were not overwhelming reports of harsh conditions for slaves during the time of the Republic.
