King James gave him a new title he became the first Lord Baltimore. The connection between his
resignation and his switching to Roman Catholicism was a complex one. George Cottington, a former
employee of Calvert, suggested in 1628 that his conversion to roman catholicism had been going long
before he had made it public Godfrey Goodman later claimed he had been a secret catholic all along
However, no one had questioned Calvert s loyalty at the time, and if he had been a catholic , he had
hidden it well extremely well. It seems more likely that he had converted in late 1624. Now he had
both money and land he was able to properly support his family. He was ecstatic about the english

Nevada Is Not The Typical Lawyer
While Papantonio was able to predict a few quality of Nevada based on his research, Nevada is not the
typical lawyer. Papantonio sent out his survey to hundreds of lawyers and his data was based on
people who practiced in the 1990s, naturally some things that he predicted would be incorrect. It s also
worth noting that it s implausible that a lawyer would match the study in every category anyway. On
average Nevada is a better attorney than his colleagues. Unlike the typical attorney Nevada did take
time off for vacation. Another characteristic that Nevada doesn t share with the average lawyer written
by the scholars is that he handles far more cases on a yearly basis. A stated similarity is the negative
attitude toward the field but this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clients have respect for Nevada s work because it helps them to resolve fears that they could have
developed thinking about their mortality. Client are appreciative that concerns are met and that
Nevada has taken the time to explain every step. The week before I arrived to work at the firm Nevada
had taken a week long vacation but, that behavior was seen as rare within the confines of the book.
Papantonio accounted that between 20 and 26% of lawyers demand 5 to 4 weeks respectfully of
vacation (Papantonio, 1995). He proceeds to state that only 8% took 5 weeks off and 16% took 4
weeks off (Papantonio, 1995). Lawyers are by their very nature workaholics and they will refuse to
take time off but, Nevada was not constrained to that style of thinking. He took time off to travel and
relax which in turn mitigated is potential to burnout. The fact that most lawyers work 250 hours or
more a month should equate that they need to take time off from time to time but, most lawyers
ultimately refuse to. Papantonio accounts in his survey that 41.1 % of survey recipients can t relax
(Papantonio, 1995). As against his time during the internship, Nevada was refreshed and motivated to
try new ideas. A vacation every once and while seems to be a necessity to prevent burning out. Once

Terrorism and Airport Security Essay
Terrorism and Airport Security
The morning of September 11 was like any other. The sun rose from the east, and the day was full of
life. People went to work as they were accustomed to, and everybody seemed safe from harms way. In
airports across America: planes were taking their passengers to their destinations in record times.
People went through airport security as usual, walking through the metal detector and sending their
bags through the x ray machines. Security at the airport was normal. Bags were checked for guns and
explosives as they had been doing for many years. This seemingly routine day turned out to be far
from normal. A group of people that belonged to Al Qaeda had different plans for the people of the
United States. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many things that can be labeled as a terrorist threat. From the smallest offense, such as one
person that has more than 1000 rounds of ammunition, to a large group or even a small army of people
who can be considered a terrorist threat. September 11 was not the first time that airport security has
failed, nor the first time that terrorist have turned their eyes towards airports and their passengers. The
word terrorism, as defined by Wikipedia, is an 18th century French word from terrorisme or under
terror. It is a term that is used to calculate the use of violence or the threat of violence against a
civilian population, for the purpose of producing fear usually for some political end. This refers to a
group, but a single terrorist can be labeled as someone who is an active participant in a terrorist act or
in direct funding or logistical support, which includes harboring terrorist groups (Terrorism, 2004).
Over the past few years in Western culture, terrorism can often be defined as a euphemism for
violence by Arabs and even Muslims. This has caused a great hate between the people of America and
those of the Middle East.
During the cold day of December 21, 1988, more than 270 people died due to timid attacks of a
terrorist group. A Boeing 747 121 was on its routine trip from London to New York. The cause of the

Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar Vs. Plutarch’s Julius Caesar
He doth bestride the narrow world like a colossus (Julius Caesar 1.2.142 43).
These words were spoken by Cassius, a character in Shakespeare s play Julius Caesar.
He is speaking about Julius Caesar and Caesar s arrogance and overconfidence. This quote also shows
how Shakespeare perceived Julius Caesar as a prominent and influential man of his time. However,
this view is not shared by all of the biographers that chose to write about Julius Caesar. In fact a
famous ancient writer named Plutarch depicted Julius Caesar as a power hungry and arrogant man in
his biography The Life of Caesar. Plutarch was one of the world s first modern biographers and his
work is still used today. Even Shakespeare used him as a historical reference in his ... Show more

On the other hand, in Plutarch s The Life of Caesar Caesar receives word that his friend, Brutus, is
leading a group that is plotting to kill him. And once, when the conspiracy was already formed and
some people were actually accusing Brutus to Caesar of being involved in it, Caesar laid his hand on
his body and said to the accusers: ˜Brutus will wait for this skin of mine (The Life of Caesar 233).
What Caesar meant was that he knew Brutus would never do such a thing because he was not ˜base
and ungrateful. So once again Caesar shrugs of the warning and this is his fatal mistake.
The major difference between these two biographies is the different versions of Caesar s assassination.
In Shakespeare s play Caesar s assassination is described in a total of 2 lines. ˜ Speak, hands, for me! /
[As Casca strikes, the others rise up and stab Caesar.]/ ˜Et tu, Brute? Then fall, Caesar. / [He dies]
(Julius Caesar 3.1.84 85).
Shakespeare makes Caesar seem to die nobly with time to utter a few famous last words.
Whereas Plutarch s version of Caesar s death goes into more detail. In this version, Caesar grabbed
Casca s dagger when Casca stabbed him in the neck and said, ˜ Casca, you villain, what are you
doing? (The Life of Caesar 236). Caesar was then surrounded by the conspirators and was driven
this way and that, and like a wild beast in the toils, had to suffer from the hands of each one of them ¦

Political and Economic Issues Along the U.S. and Mexico...
Introduction and Statement of Purpose According to Jason Riley (2009) there are an estimated ten to
twelve million illegal immigrants living within the United States (p. 54). According to Cieslik, Felsen,
and Kalaitzidis (2009), over half of these illegal immigrants are from Mexico (p. 185). These
population estimates have led the United States to take action along our border. We have built a fence,
deployed various surveillance systems, and currently employ thousands of U.S. Border Protection
officers. These actions have made the issue of illegal immigration a highly debated topic within the
United States and Mexico. This debate will be explained from a political, economic, and an integrated
perspective.

military to protect drug loads happen all the time (as cited in Buchanan, 2006, p.117). It is easy to see
how U.S. Border Patrol agents and Mr. Buchanan can support the United States efforts in securing the
U.S. Mexico border. Not all of Mr. Buchanan s views are based on histories of violence from Mexican
illegal aliens. As recent as the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, U.S. citizens have realized we are
vulnerable to attacks within the United States. This realization is a valid concern because terrorists
could also gain access through this border. The U.S. Border Patrol has a term called other than
Mexican (OTM). Buchanan (2006) stated, A growing number of OTMs caught at the border now
come from the Middle East (p. 15). It is important to remember that these Middle Easterners are
caught at other points of entry, and not just the U.S. Mexico border. This does show a significant
paranoia that many Americans have. This paranoia can lead to Americans supporting increased border
protection. Governor s Richardson, Napolitano, and Mr. Buchanan all share a similar point of view
regarding more security on our border. Not all Americans share this opinion. Jason Reilly is an editor

There have been dozens of definitions of entrepreneurship. The first of those is the phenomenon that
some people, rather than working for somebody else under an employment contract, strike out on their
own and become self employed. These economic entities involve some element of innovation at start
up, and some degree of innovativeness is needed to survive over time. However, innovation is not
central to this phenomenon. It is to the second social reality. This reality involves the development and
renewal of any society, economy or organization, which is based on micro level actors who have the
initiative and persistence to make change happen. In this reality, entrepreneurship means the creation
of new economic activities and organizations as well as the transformation of existing ones .
Indicators of Contributions to Economic Outcomes 1) Employment : Firms may contribute to the
amount of employment generated or to the quality of employment. Firm growth, measured by the
number of jobs created (relative to the size of the firm), is often used as an indicator of the quantity of
employment generated. The quality of employment is measured in terms of the remuneration offered
to employees. The primary indicators used are wage levels, benefits (e.g. health insurance), and the
use of productivity related pay (PRP). Job satisfaction levels of the employees in entrepreneurial firms

Essay on Raphael Sanzio s Life and Accomplishments
Raffaello Sanzio was an amazing artist from the late 1400 s to the early 1500 s, who created many
amazing paintings that helped change the style of medieval art to Renaissance art. Without him, the
style of art now would most likely be more primitive and not as advanced as it should be. This is
because he made many advances including more realistic painting. His most important paintings
include The School Of Athens , the Sistine Madonna , and the Marriage of the Virgin . Not only are
those some of his most famous paintings, they also show the realisticness that changed the world.

He was his apprentice at the town of Perugia. Since Perugino was a master painter this greatly
influenced Raphael s young life and encouraged him to become an artist. Raphael, before exiting
apprenticeship, made a few amazing paintings. These include the Mond Crucifixion, The Three
Graces, The Knight s Dream, and The Marriage of the Virgin, which I will mention later.
Raphael made many very detailed paintings. My choices for his most contributing paintings are The
School of Athens, The Sistine Madonna, and The Marriage of The Virgin. They were just a few of the
many amazing paintings that Raphael has painted. The School of Athens was possibly Raphael s most
popular painting. It shows representations of many mathematicians, philosophers, and scientists of the
Renaissance. The two people walking down the middle of the hall are Aristotle and Plato who were
very important contributors to the way of western thinking, and in different ways, their philosophies
were incorporated into Christianity. Plato is holding the book called The Timaeus. Plato points up

reality that is eternal and unchanging (and include things like goodness and beauty). Aristotle holds

Social Security And The Great Depression
Social Security
Alfred Malone
Sociology
Mrs. Joy Branch
14 November 2014
Social security was created in response to the Great Depression. The purpose of it is to protect aged
and disabled persons from illness expenses, to give children a chance to grow up healthy and secure,
keep families together, and to augment the material needs of individuals and families. The Social
Security Act was first passed in 1935 and later amended in 1956 to provide disability benefits. Some
programs included under the Social Security Act are: retirement insurance, survivor s insurance,
disability insurance, and some public assistance and welfare services. The Social Security program is
meant to provide benefits, social security numbers, and generate its own finances. The first Social
Security Numbers(SSN) were first issued in 1936. These cards each all have their own number used to
track the earning histories of U.S. Workers. The cards also were used to determine Social Security
benefit entitlement and benefit levels. The use of the SSN later expanded in terms of use. As of
December2008, the Social Security Administration (SSA) had issued over 450 million original SSNs,
and nearly every legal resident of the United States had one (Carolyn Puckett). The SSN led to what is
mostly used today to identify and gather information on a person. This method is particularly used
when applying for jobs. The largest source of income for most of today s elderly comes from social

The ideal dance I pick was a mixed of modern/ballet dance. I constantly desired to dance like a

Phoenix used its feathers to turn it to flames and able to swirl. It around to engulf itself in flames to
get the sun to become as one with the world. The phoenix opens its wings and lift itself to the cosmos
as the young phoenix from its old ashes and rejuvenate to a beautiful organism. The song I used is
called Awakening by Taylor Davis. She a famous violinist player from YouTube, she creates beautiful
music with her violin and take on other famous music other ideas. When I try to work with my
consistency, I m using my arms to represent the extensions of the phoenix as the flames are dancing
within the plumes. The feather belt at the closing of each of my hands represents the length of the
plumes from each of the wind. I affected my arms to illustrate the flames of my wings When I was
running my legs along with my weaponry, I m testing to establish the flow of time from being young
and being old of the direction of the river. I used my cape as the tail and shares of the wings. I turned
down both of my legs and came up and dangle my arms like the waves of the oceans current. I pinch
my right arm in the air to demonstrate the stunner of the flames of the extension. I whirled around and

Credit includes a cash loan and any other financial accommodation including hire purchase, credit

agreement may be enforced against him subject to the provisions of the Act. The creditor in such
circumstances is required to serve a default notice on the debtor specifying the breach of contract and

creditor retains the ownership of the goods until the debtor exercises the option to purchase by

7). The combustion increases the temperature of the exhaust gases, any residual air in the combustion
chamber, and the combustion chamber itself. From the ideal gas law, the increased temperature of the
gases also produces an increased pressure in the combustion chamber; the high pressure of the gases
acting on the face of the piston cause the piston to move to which initiates the power stroke (para. 8).
Unlike the compression stroke, the hot gas does work on the piston during the power stroke. The force
on the piston is transmitted by the piston rod to the crankshaft, where the linear motion of the piston is
converted to angular motion of the crankshaft. Hall s article for NASA states that the work done on the
piston is then used to turn the shaft (para. 8). Having produced the igniting spark, the electrical contact
remains opened. During the power stroke, the volume occupied by the gases is increased because of
the piston motion and no heat is transferred to the fuel/air mixture (para. 9). As the volume is
increased because of the piston s motion, the pressure and temperature of the gas are decreased. Heat
that is left over from the power stroke is now transferred to the water in the water jacket until the
pressure approaches atmospheric pressure; the

Biodiversity And Its Impact On Biodiversity
Biodiversity is what makes the planet earth unique and different from every other planet in the solar
system. Biodiversity can be studied on a global level all the way down to studying it within a
microscopic ecosystem (National Wildlife Federation, 2015). It is important to understand that
biodiversity can be looked at genetically as well as environmentally as well. For example, genetic
biodiversity is seen in the variation of different breeds within the dog species, while environmental
biodiversity is the diversity of ecosystems and habitats (National Wildlife Federation, 2015).
Preserving biodiversity is perhaps the most important task that humans have to complete while living
on this planet. The ecosystems that make up all of the regions worldwide are immensely complex, so
conservation may be difficult at times. Additionally, many factors influence the species that inhabit
ecosystems, and these factors may complicate the preservation of biodiversity. Moreover, there is a
plethora of threats to biodiversity, both natural and manmade that are destroying ecosystems on a daily
basis. Out of these threats, the human influences are particularly severe and must be taken care of at
all costs. Biodiversity provides countless benefits for every ecosystem and creature, which is what
makes it worthy of conservation. Through the introduction and relocation of species, some degree of
restoration may be possible in the future. Biodiversity is an amazing natural process that makes life

Essay about Moulin Rouge vs. the Great Gatsby

Film Analysis A
Moulin Rouge vs. The Great Gatsby
Apart from having the same director, Baz Luhrmann, Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby have an
astounding amount of similarities. They are both passionate love stories with similar characters in
coinciding roles. Although the two movies are set in the early 1900s and 1920s, they use modern
music to captivate the audience s interest. Baz Luhrmann has a knack for making colorful romantic
thrillers, and it certainly shows in Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby. In the two movies there are
three basic characters in the love triangle. Christian and Jay Gatsby would be the two dapper, yet

Buz Luhrmann s intention in making movies is to provide and entertaining, extravagantly beautiful

the use of modern music to better capture the attention of younger audiences. Since Moulin Rouge
was a musical, Luhrmann decided to intertwine recent hits for the singing scenes. Although the film
takes place in 1899, He included songs from music legends such as Elton John, Madonna, and The
Beatles. In The Great Gatsby, Luhrmann chose to allow a music entrepreneur, Jay Z, to take control of
the music to be played. Jay Z used self produced music, and music of modern super stars that he knew
the crowd would fall in love with. He inputted a techno feeling to the music at the parties, because he
was able to understand that if he used the jazz music prevalent in the 1920s, the audience would have
no way of relating. He may not know it, but Buzz Luhrmann has a knack for making movies with star
crossed lovers and extremely colorful sequences, that just happen to be very successful. Moulin Rouge
and The Great Gatsby are perfect examples of Luhrmann s gift. They exhibit the similar qualities in
characters, scenes, and music. It will not be a surprise if Buzz Luhrmann comes out with another

Also, the area of the skin on which the symptoms appear tends to be different with every type of

neck, wrist, forearm, thigh or ankle. More rarely, the primary symptom of this condition which is itchy
skin may appear on the genital area, such as the vulva or scrotum. Symptoms of this type of dermatitis
may be very intense and may come and go. Irritant contact dermatitis is usually more painful than
itchy. Although the symptoms of atopic dermatitis vary from person to person, the most common

One interesting thing that I have learned so far in the class is understanding that location is an
important factor when it comes to quality of life. When looking at both of the books we have read in
class, location has been a reason why most people have a rough life. When a town is in poverty it
directly relates to the crime rate and drug use. People must find way to support their families and
selling drug is on of the ways which of course, relates to jail time as seen in Keepin On. Another
problem seen when living in poverty due to location is the school systems and quality of teachers is

Frenchmen, I die guiltless of the crime imputed to me. I forgive the authors of my death and pray God
my blood fall not on France. These last words of King Louis XVI expressed his good intentions for
France, despite being resented and executed by the revolutionaries. Although Louis wanted the best
for France, he was ineffective as a ruler and it resulted to his execution by the guillotine. Attempt to
resolve the problems that plagued France were met with failures, which demonstrated the weakness of
the French monarchy. Despite a grand motive to eliminate France s troubles, King Louis XVI had
limited success in accomplishing this goal. Louis Auguste de France, later known as King Louis XVI,
was born in August 23, 1754 in the Palace of Versailles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the foolish decisions that he made was to support the American Revolution. France recently
suffered a defeat to the British in the Seven Years War, so they declared war on Britain as an official
American ally (King Louis XVI receives U.S. representatives). Although it seemed favorable for King
Louis XVI to support the American s effort for independence, it only aggravated France s problems by
increasing their debt. To make things worse, Louis s wife, Marie Antoinette, had a negative influence
on his decision making, but also spent France s money on extravagance when she danced all night at
masked balls and cheered wildly at the horse races... gathered around herself a clique of young nobles
who gambled away millions at cards (Plain 22). The antipathy the lower classes had for the nobility
only increased, since they believed the tax money should have been used to solve the crisis that
afflicted France. Nevertheless, the main problem that troubled France was the large amount of debt, so
they had to find a way to resolve this issue before the situation escalated and grew

The Content Of The Cult Film They Live
A film, generally speaking is digested on a surface level as a piece of entertainment and some
elements can pass the viewers by. However films are cemented in the time and place they were made
and the filmmakers unique self expression is presented in an artistic form to fully give their work
depth. Typically, feature films are narrative driven and focus on a central set of characters and their
trials and tribulations. However, the film can mean something deeper when fully delving into the
content of the work, whether it is cultural, political or ideological in its message. These elements
presented give the work depth thus allowing deeper discussions and analysis of a work that may seem
simple on a surface level. Student filmmakers have always strived to implement these points in their
work. With the aim of improving their practice, it is considered a necessity to include these elements
in order to fully dissect the elements of specific works to understand the method in which these
messages are implemented. In this assignment, I will discuss the content of the cult film They Live
(They Live, 1988) so I can fully grasp the symptomatic and ideological elements behind the film and
how it has inspired other artists. John Carpenters career flourished with the release of Halloween
(Halloween, 1978). Throughout the 1980 s he made a name for himself within the horror and science
fiction genre with films such as The Fog (The Fog, 1980), The Thing (The Thing, 1982) and Escape

Foolishness And Foolishness In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
As eloquently stated by the prolific author Søren Kierkegaard, There are two ways to be fooled. One is
to believe what isn t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true. Shakespeare s comedy Twelfth
Night features many fools , those led by the nose through desire and other means, and those who
turned away from the truth. Of all those fools, one stands out from the others Malvolio, a steward who
chases his mistress, Olivia. As a man who flaunts his foolishness through his gullibility and
dependency on fabricated truths, Malvolio proves to be the most foolish character, contributing to
Shakespeare s message that foolishness is not simply what meets the eye.

The most foolish of people manage to be fooled, not only by others, but themselves as well; and
Malvolio gets ahead of himself and unwisely chases after impossible ambitions, establishing himself
as one of the most foolish characters in the play. Upon receiving Maria s letter, Malvolio reads closely
to what he believes is his mistress words of love, and when reading the name of his lady s loved one,
he sees a cryptic series of letters, and instantly questions If I could make that/ resemble something in
me , before realizing its similarities to his own name (II.v.123 124). Malvolio reads a series of letters,
seemingly standing for the name of Olivia s target of romantic interest, and he tries to find his own
name hidden in the letters immediately. Without thinking it through, Malvolio leaps at an opportunity,
instantly seduced by the idea of success in society and living his days out as a count at Olivia s side,
happily wedded. Blinded by ambition and almost desperate for his mistress heart, Malvolio makes a
fool of himself once again, and unlike other characters, he becomes inconsiderate of his place in
society, becoming arrogant at the excuse. By the same token, he is convinced that the letter is true, and

Pricing Strategies And Marketing Strategies
Pricing strategies can vary from offering relatively stable prices across a wide range of products,
which is known as Everyday Low Pricing (EDLP) or Promotional Pricing (PROMO) which involves
emphasising deep and frequent discounts on smaller sets of goods (Ellickson and Misra, 2008). The
EDLP store adopts a constant everyday low prices across a wide range of product categories, whereas
PROMO or Hi Lo stores occasionally price a category at the regular price or at a deep discount (Bell
and Lattin, 1998). Ellickson and Misra (2008) argue that the concept of choosing the best pricing
strategy is a complex process as it forces firms to balance the preferences of their consumers, as well
as taking into account their competitors performances in terms of the store pricing and market share.
Supermarket Pricing Strategies (Ellickson and Misra, 2008)
Ellickson and Misra (2008) established that supermarkets typically cluster in terms of pricing
strategies, and therefore stores using the same strategies are likely to be found within close proximity
of each other. Evidence from the study showed that consumer demographics played a significant role
in the choice of pricing strategy. The result from the study carried out by using a discrete choice model
which explains and predicts choices between two or more discrete alternatives; which in this case the
study focused on three choices EDLP, PROMO and Hybrid. The study demonstrated that
demographics and firm characteristics are

The Prison System Is Not Functioning Well
It has long been apparent that the UK s current prison system is not functioning well. Although the
HM Prison Service outline their purpose as we keep those sentenced to prison in custody, helping
them lead law abiding and useful lives, both while they are in prison and after they are released
(Gov.uk, 2016), currently nearly half of all prisoners go on to re offend within a year, which costs
society £15 billion a year (Ministry of Justice, 2016). In addition, last summer, the Chief Inspector of
Prisons warned that jails in England and Wales were in their worst state for a decade (HM Chief
Inspector of Prisons for England and Wales, 2015) with sharp rises in inmate violence, increasing drug
use, staff shortages and squalid conditions. Therefore there is no doubt that the prison system is in
urgent need of reform.
Last month, Elizabeth Truss outlined planned reforms to the prison system in a government proposal,
Prison Security and Reform she labelled the blueprint for the biggest overhaul of our prisons in a
generation . She outlined plans for a governor led approach, in which prison governors will have the
power to opt out of national contracts, and make their own resource allocation decisions. Six reform
prisons with these features are already being trialled around the country, but it is too early to judge
their impact. (Ministry of Justice, 2016). Autonomy is expected to empower staff, improve standards
and lead to a reduction in reoffending. The idea came from

Performance appraisal can be defined as a general heading for a variety of activities through which
organizations seek to assess employees and develop their competence, enhance performance and
distribute rewards (Van De Mieroop Vrolix, 2014, p. 159). In the article A Discourse Analytical
Perspective on the Professionalization of the Performance Appraisal Interview, Van De Mieroop and
Vrolix discuss performance appraisal interviews as interactions between managers and their
employees that can resemble a therapy or counseling session (Van De Mieroop Vrolix, 2014, p. 160).
There are two stakeholders in this appraisal form, the employee and the manager. Bob was given the
form to complete the employee comments, and then Al filled in the supervisor comments. The form
has done a good job of defining Bob s competencies as an employee. The form touches on
knowledge/know how, communication skills, work results, work style, service orientation, additional
performance attributes, and gives an overall success rating. By defining Bob s skills, abilities,

Nnedi Okorafor Mbachu and Phoebe Robinson, through their respective books Zahrah the Windseeker
and You Can t Touch My Hair: And Other Things I Still Have to Explain, eloquently tackle the ways
their characters recognize and overcome the fear of the unknown through word choice and character
development. In her book, Zahrah the Windseeker, Nnedi Okorafor Mbachu does not waste any time
and explicitly states in the preface that it is a general fear of the unknown that plagues the entire
society of the Ooni Kingdom (Okorafor). Okorafor s use of the word plague utilizes the negative

swamp witch, and freak (Okorafor 3). Despite initially believing the vicious nicknames and allowing
those words to define her, Zahrah overcomes her submission to society s perception of her and
embraces her hair, as well as her other dada qualities. In the end, after completing her quest and saving
her best friend, Zahrah stands before a mirror and studies herself: I look at myself in the mirror, my
dark brown skin, my dada hair... I looked into my own eyes and smiled when I saw the new glint in

that is not defined by society s fear of her. For Zahrah, it took going on an incredibly dangerous and
nearly impossible mission in order to accept herself and to shake people s fear of the unknown. She
now has confidence in herself and believes in herself. Similarly, Robinson deals with this same issue
of facing other the fear of the unknown, however she deals with the problem in a more realistic

Understanding Diverticulitis
Concept overview as it pertains to the acute and/or chronic stable patient Diverticulitis is one part of
the Diverticular Disease, the other being diverticulosis. In order to understand what diverticulitis is,
we need to first define diverticulosis. Diverticulosis is when diverticula, which are pouches that form
in the intestines, most commonly found in the sigmond colon (Winkelman, Ignatavicius, Workman,
2015). Diverticula are usually formed due to an increase in pressure on the lining of the intestines,
usually in a weakened part of the lining (Winkelman, Ignatavicius, Workman, 2015). These pockets
can be caused from constipation due to straining themselves. When these pockets become inflamed or
infected this disease is considered diverticulitis. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opening up the stomach is called laparotomy. This test can also be done laproscopically where they
use cameras to look at the organs. This is less invasive than the laparotomy. (Ignatavicius Workman,
(2016) pg. 1171). A CT of the abdomen and pelvis may also be done. This is much like an x ray but
the CT will show more detail. Cross sectional images are taken of the abdomen and pelvis, which
gives a better view because these images can see through the organs. These images are very accurate,
can produce 3D images, and can be looked at in multiple planes. (Pagana, T. (2014) pg. 1021) There
are a few different methods for testing Fecal Occult Blood Test and Fecal Immunochemimcal Test.
One test is the guaiac chemical assay which tests for blood. These tests are usually used to detect
colon cancer. DNA stool sample tests can be run as well with this type of test, and it is more sensitive
than the guaiac chemical test, but it is more useful in diagnosing cancer cells. An immunochemical
can be used as well to look for occult blood. This chemical looks for the globin in the hemoglobin of
human blood. (Pagana, T. (2014) pg.

The Marriage Of Maria Norler Analysis
In the article War Stories: The Search for a Usable Past in the Federal Republic of Germany (1995),
Robert G. Moeller, a professor of history at the University of California, Irvine, focuses on the topical
question of a treatment of the past by Germans in the post World War II Germany. The author argues
that to find a single viewpoint as for the Third Reich period is difficult and the binary opposition of
perpetrator and victim tends to impact the process of the national self awareness and self identification
greatly (1048). This results in an uncertainty of an ethical assessment of the historical past and, what is
more important, demonstration of a selective memory. The purpose of this paper is to provide
interpretation of the 1979 film The Marriage of Maria Braun directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder
(1945 1982), a West German filmmaker and a representative of the New German Cinema movement
of the 1960s 1980s, taking into consideration the ideas revealed in the article by Moeller. In this way,
the main idea of the essay is that in his film, Fassbinder reflects Moeller s concept of the selective
memory by means of dehumanization of film characters while showing the historical post war period
of the German Economic Miracle.
The main character of The Marriage is a woman named Maria. At the beginning of the film, she
marries a Wehrmacht officer Hermann Braun in the city of Berlin, which experiences an artillery
shelling by the Red Army right at the process of the wedding.

Essay on The Influential Power of Oprah Winfrey
How can one person, whom most people have never met, influence the lives of people in the world
today in such positive ways? Oprah Winfrey has been able to persuade and inspire many people
around the world today because she has simply believed in herself and the good of the people. Oprah
once said, Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life because you become what you
believe (Lowe 170). The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Angel Network, and Oprah s Book Club have
been some of the most indoctrinating pieces of work by Oprah. Moreover, these creations have been

The Angel Network is a national effort to encourage viewers to make charitable contributions and to
do volunteer work (Lowe 180). The Angel Network has helped educate, clothe, feed, and provide
shelter for the children of Africa. During her travels to Africa, Oprah has provided the children with
items such as books and clothing. Thanks to viewer s generosity, over 16,000 children will receive the
uniforms they need to go to school (Oprah.com Live Your Best Life). Also, the network has rewarded
single, working mothers struggling to provide for their children. For example, due to the lack of
transportation, one mother was awarded a brand new caravan for her and her children. Another
accomplishment of the network has been helping the tsunami victims in Asia. After the tsunami
caused mass destruction, Oprah s Angel Network has responded by raising money to send to the
people of Asia. Moreover, Oprah s Angel Network has teamed up with three worldwide relief and
development organizations that will be working in the area of Arugam Bay and the town of Pavolli,

Have you ever closed your eyes and your dreams painted a miraculous picture that it seemed too good
to be true ? I close my eyes and I picture myself with a crisp cotton white lab coat with a burgundy

as I scribble a prescription down on my clipboard. My dream is to become a Nurse Practitioner that

The IFMIS provides a critical financial management solution for countries whose administrative and
economic infrastructure is obsolete, or has been destroyed through war and years of conflict. There is
broad agreement that a fully functioning IFMIS can improve governance by providing real time
financial information that financial and other managers can use to administer programs effectively,
formulate budgets, and manage resources. Sound IFMIS systems, coupled with the adoption of
centralized treasury operations, can not only help developing country governments gain effective
control over their finances, but also enhance transparency and accountability, reducing political
discretion and acting as a deterrent to corruption and fraud. Obstacles should not be underestimated.
The road to implementing successful IFMIS in developing countries is paved with difficulties, such as
resistance from the bureaucracies involved; lack of decision making from the top; weak human
capital; corruption and fraud; and, in the case of conflict ridden countries, the instability and violence
that impair any efficient long term work. Moreover, IFMIS systems are complicated, expensive, and
difficult to manage and maintain. Indeed, a 2003 review of 34 IFMIS projects supported by the World
Bank over 15 years estimated that only few of the systems were likely to be sustained after donor
support ceased. Obstacles notwithstanding, the

The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd Essay example
The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd
Dr James Sheppard lived together with his sister Caroline in King s Abbot, a small village. He was a
great doctor and when somebody died he looked to see what had happened.
Mrs Ferras died on the night of the 16th 17th September. Dr Sheppard drove there. After he had
analysed the body he drove home again where he talked about the death of Mrs Ferras with his sister.
Caroline pretended to know everything about the death. She thought Mrs Ferras had killed herself
because she had killed her husband last year.
That day Dr Sheppard met Roger Ackroyd, a good friend of his, by chance. Roger invited Dr
Sheppard to his house at 7.30. He also told Dr Sheppard that it was very important. That evening

Dr Sheppard was looking at them when Flora entered the room. She told him that she wanted to marry
Ralph, and she showed him the ring on her finger. When Roger came into the room they talked about
many things.
Then Roger said that Mrs Ferras had not killed her husband. Mr Ferras had been poisoned. There was
a letter from Mrs Ferras and Roger wanted to read it alone, so James walked home.
At 8.00 at the gates he met a stranger who wanted to know the way to Fernly Park. Back home James
wanted to go to bed, but then the telephone rang and Parker, Mr Ackroyd s butler, told him that Mr
Ackroyed had been murdered. So he went to Fernly Park again. When he came into the room again, he
established that the letter from Mrs Ferras had been removed. Flora said that she was the last person
who had seen her uncle alive.
She wanted Dr Sheppard s new neighbour Hercule Poirot, a detective, to take over the case. Poirot
agreed and Dr Sheppard decided to help him. They found out that Parker couldn t be the murderer
because of the footpoints under the window. They didn t belong to Parker. When Poirot walked
through the garden he found a ring in the pool.
Hammond, the family lawyer, thought that Ralph Paton could never kill his uncle. Poirot thought the
contrary. Miss Ursula Burner, a servant, didn t have an alibi. And she wasn t saying anything. Poirot
sent Dr Sheppard to talk to Mrs Ackroyd the next morning. Mrs Ackroyd didn t say it directly but she
accused Miss

Comparing Ludwig Beethoven And Beethoven s Appassionata...
Both Ludwig Beethoven s Appassionata piano sonata and Franz Liszt s B minor sonata are recognized
as some of the best compositions of the nineteenth century. The complexity and creativity of these
pieces are astonishing. Considering both pieces are sonatas they have some similar aspects, but they
are also very different which can be credited to the brilliant minds who composed them. These pieces
are both masterpieces of their time which is what has made them stand out amongst the many songs
composed during the nineteenth century. In this paper I will touch on the significant attributes of these
pieces and compare their similarities and differences.
The first piece I will introduce is Appassionata by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Appassionata was
composed during a time of many changes in both Beethoven s life and the musical world around him.
By 1800 Beethoven s hearing had deteriorated so much that he was almost completely deaf. Although
this was not something easy to cope with, Beethoven did not let this obstacle hinder his career. In fact,
in many aspects his works flourished, and a new wave of creativity sparked in his career. Beethoven
was not the first to compose a multimovement piece for the piano, but he was the first to stray from
the former expectations of piano sonatas. Beethoven s new sonatas were longer than most and
incorporated dramatic elements. With just one instrument Beethoven was able to convey so much
power and emotion, something that no one at the time

Papantonio sent out his survey to hundreds of lawyers and his data was based on people who practiced in the 1990s, naturally some things that he predicted would be incorrect. It s also worth noting that it s implausible that a lawyer would match the study in every category anyway. On average Nevada is a better attorney than his colleagues. People went to work as they were accustomed to, and everybody seemed safe from harms way. In airports across America: planes were taking their passengers to their destinations in record times. People went through airport security as usual, walking through the metal detector and sending their bags through the x ray machines. Security at the airport was normal. Bags were checked for guns and explosives as they had been doing for many years. This seemingly routine day turned out to be far from normal. September 11 was not the first time that airport security has failed, nor the first time that terrorist have turned their eyes towards airports and their passengers. The word terrorism, as defined by Wikipedia, is an 18th century French word from terrorisme or under terror. It is a term that is used to calculate the use of violence or the threat of violence against a civilian population, for the purpose of producing fear usually for some political end. This refers to a group, but a single terrorist can be labeled as someone who is an active participant in a terrorist act or in direct funding or logistical support, which includes harboring terrorist groups (Terrorism, 2004). Over the past few years in Western culture, terrorism can often be defined as a euphemism for violence by Arabs and even Muslims. This has caused a great hate between the people of America and those of the Middle East. During the cold day of December 21, 1988, more than 270 people died due to timid attacks of a terrorist group. These words were spoken by Cassius, a character in Shakespeare s play Julius Caesar. He is speaking about Julius Caesar and Caesar s arrogance and overconfidence. This quote also shows how Shakespeare perceived Julius Caesar as a prominent and influential man of his time. However, this view is not shared by all of the biographers that chose to write about Julius Caesar. On the other hand, in Plutarch s The Life of Caesar Caesar receives word that his friend, Brutus, is leading a group that is plotting to kill him. And once, when the conspiracy was already formed and some people were actually accusing Brutus to Caesar of being involved in it, Caesar laid his hand on his body and said to the accusers: ˜Brutus will wait for this skin of mine (The Life of Caesar 233). What Caesar meant was that he knew Brutus would never do such a thing because he was not ˜base and ungrateful. So once again Caesar shrugs of the warning and this is his fatal mistake. The major difference between these two biographies is the different versions of Caesar s assassination. In Shakespeare s play Caesar s assassination is described in a total of 2 lines. ˜ Speak, hands, for me! / [As Casca strikes, the others rise up and stab Caesar.]/ ˜Et tu, Brute? Introduction and Statement of Purpose According to Jason Riley (2009) there are an estimated ten to twelve million illegal immigrants living within the United States (p. 54). According to Cieslik, Felsen, and Kalaitzidis (2009), over half of these illegal immigrants are from Mexico (p. 185). These population estimates have led the United States to take action along our border. We have built a fence, deployed various surveillance systems, and currently employ thousands of U.S. Border Protection officers. According to an experienced border patrol agent named T.J. Bonner, Intrusions by the Mexican military to protect drug loads happen all the time (as cited in Buchanan, 2006, p.117). It is easy to see how U.S. Border Patrol agents and Mr. Buchanan can support the United States efforts in securing the U.S. Mexico border. Not all of Mr. Buchanan s views are based on histories of violence from Mexican illegal aliens. As recent as the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, U.S. citizens have realized we are vulnerable to attacks within the United States. This realization is a valid concern because terrorists could also gain access through this border. The U.S. Border Patrol has a term called other than Mexican (OTM). Buchanan (2006) stated, A growing number of OTMs caught at the border now come from the Middle East (p. 15). It is important to remember that these Middle Easterners are caught at other points of entry, and not just the U.S. Mexico border. This does show a significant paranoia that many Americans have. This paranoia can lead to Americans supporting increased border protection. Governor s Richardson, Napolitano, and Mr. Buchanan all share a similar point of view regarding more security on our border. Not all Americans share this opinion. The combustion increases the temperature of the exhaust gases, any residual air in the combustion chamber, and the combustion chamber itself. From the ideal gas law, the increased temperature of the gases also produces an increased pressure in the combustion chamber; the high pressure of the gases acting on the face of the piston cause the piston to move to which initiates the power stroke (para. 8). Unlike the compression stroke, the hot gas does work on the piston during the power stroke. The force on the piston is transmitted by the piston rod to the crankshaft, where the linear motion of the piston is converted to angular motion of the crankshaft. • 14. Biodiversity And Its Impact On Biodiversity Biodiversity is what makes the planet earth unique and different from every other planet in the solar system. Biodiversity can be studied on a global level all the way down to studying it within a microscopic ecosystem (National Wildlife Federation, 2015). It is important to understand that biodiversity can be looked at genetically as well as environmentally as well. For example, genetic biodiversity is seen in the variation of different breeds within the dog species, while environmental biodiversity is the diversity of ecosystems and habitats (National Wildlife Federation, 2015). Preserving biodiversity is perhaps the most important task that humans have to complete while living on this planet. The ecosystems that make up all of the regions worldwide are immensely complex, so conservation may be difficult at times. Additionally, many factors influence the species that inhabit ecosystems, and these factors may complicate the preservation of biodiversity. Moreover, there is a plethora of threats to biodiversity, both natural and manmade that are destroying ecosystems on a daily basis. Out of these threats, the human influences are particularly severe and must be taken care of at all costs. Biodiversity provides countless benefits for every ecosystem and creature, which is what makes it worthy of conservation. • 41. The Marriage Of Maria Norler Analysis In the article War Stories: The Search for a Usable Past in the Federal Republic of Germany (1995), Robert G. Moeller, a professor of history at the University of California, Irvine, focuses on the topical question of a treatment of the past by Germans in the post World War II Germany. The author argues that to find a single viewpoint as for the Third Reich period is difficult and the binary opposition of perpetrator and victim tends to impact the process of the national self awareness and self identification greatly (1048). This results in an uncertainty of an ethical assessment of the historical past and, what is more important, demonstration of a selective memory. The purpose of this paper is to provide interpretation of the 1979 film The Marriage of Maria Braun directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1945 1982), a West German filmmaker and a representative of the New German Cinema movement of the 1960s 1980s, taking into consideration the ideas revealed in the article by Moeller. In this way, the main idea of the essay is that in his film, Fassbinder reflects Moeller s concept of the selective memory by means of dehumanization of film characters while showing the historical post war period of the German Economic Miracle. The main character of The Marriage is a woman named Maria. At the beginning of the film, she marries a Wehrmacht officer Hermann Braun in the city of Berlin, which experiences an artillery shelling by the Red Army right at the process of the wedding. ... Both Ludwig Beethoven s Appassionata piano sonata and Franz Liszt s B minor sonata are recognized as some of the best compositions of the nineteenth century. The complexity and creativity of these pieces are astonishing. Considering both pieces are sonatas they have some similar aspects, but they are also very different which can be credited to the brilliant minds who composed them. These pieces are both masterpieces of their time which is what has made them stand out amongst the many songs composed during the nineteenth century. In this paper I will touch on the significant attributes of these pieces and compare their similarities and differences. The first piece I will introduce is Appassionata by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Appassionata was composed during a time of many changes in both Beethoven s life and the musical world around him. By 1800 Beethoven s hearing had deteriorated so much that he was almost completely deaf. Although this was not something easy to cope with, Beethoven did not let this obstacle hinder his career. In fact, in many aspects his works flourished, and a new wave of creativity sparked in his career. Beethoven was not the first to compose a multimovement piece for the piano, but he was the first to stray from the former expectations of piano sonatas. Beethoven s new sonatas were longer than most and incorporated dramatic elements.
