CHAPTER II
INTRODUCTION ABOUT INTERNSHIP
In more than eight weeks, my internship is about digital marketing, and my main
job is writing articles for the website of the company and translating letters in English.
During the internship, I learned a lot of experience in website management, how to
write perfect SEO (Search Engine Optimization) articles, how to get content from
different sources without plagiarism, etc. More important thing is experience in
finding resources to write articles. English materials and lessons nowadays are
available online; however, it is not always easy to keep up with the latest information.
At the beginning of the internship, I have a lot of difficulties in completing my
work every day on time. However, after a short time, I gradually got used to the job
and gained some experience for myself. I also found a way to speed up the work and
job performance as well. The nature of my work is not difficult, but it takes time to
find information and post an article follow standards about grammar, spelling and
layout, so finding ways to shorten time to do is very necessary.
Since my major is Business English, my objective is to get acquainted with
digital marketing, quite new field in Vietnam, and apply my language knowledge and
skills to the job, especially the learning English website I was managing. The
management of this website also helps me review my knowledge of English and find
the limitations of myself as well as the website to have a solution.
As I mentioned, my main job is to write articles for the website especially
website of the company, so the knowledge from the Vietnamese-English Business
Translation and English-Vietnamese Business Translation I have learned is very
necessary and helpful for me during the internship. Translating articles from foreign
sources or translate from Vietnamese into English is also easier thanks to the skills I
have learned in this subject. In my job, I have to write a lot so that the skills I gain
from Academic Writing also help me write better layout and content.

CHAPTER III
INTERNSHIP PROCESS
3.1 Work assignments
I was in charge of writing articles for company's website about the services
promotion. Sometimes, I worked as a translator because I often helped my mentors in
office with translating letters from foreign customers that written by English. The first
week of doing this job, there was one supervisor to monitor and help me with writing
articles.
3.2 Weekly schedule
My job at the company is not so much but I chose to work full time to complete
the internship as required by the school. I worked from Monday to Friday, the morning
started from 8:00 to 12:00 and the afternoon stared from 1:00 to 5:00.
Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for me every day is one article for the website.
Every day I have to complete KPI of that day to track the progress of work. About
more than a week later, when I get used to it, I no longer had to ask the supervisor to
help me and I could write on my own, self-corrected my mistakes and managed my
work
3.3 Job description
The first week was from September 7th, 2020 to September 11th, 2020. On the
first day I came to the company, I met the staff there and made some paperwork
related to the internship, I also registered for the week's work. I had not officially
started the job, but I had been trained with the job that I will undertake. I learned about
the website as terms, components and their layout. The instructors also taught me how
to write the perfect SEO (Search Engine Optimization) article for a website and
specially non-plagiarism. And then I was reviewing the company's website,
highlighting the advantages, disadvantages of each website and offering solutions to
solve the issue. I was also asked to write and post an article for the website. The
following days my job was to write an article for the website
The second week, from September 14th, 2020 to September 18th, 2020, my
main job this week was writing 2 articles for website and this is the official number of
posts that I will write to the end of the internship. The next two days I continued
13. 13
writing articles for the website. On September 17th I was trained on Social Media
Channels and learned how to post on these social networks. I was directed to post on
two main channels are Facebook and Google Plus in a formal pattern. Last day I
continued writing article and writing work report. Because I was not used to the
progress of my work, I could not send the report on time and have to renew it at the
end of the day.
The third week, from September 21th, 2020 to September 25th, 2020, I started
getting into the shape of work with my daily routine was writing articles for website
and posting on Facebook page and Google Plus. From this week I did not have to send
the link of the article to my supervisor to check anymore because I got used to the job
and I rarely make mistakes.
The fourth week, from September 28th
2020 to October 2nd
2020 and the fifth
week from 5th to 9th October, I continued my daily work. I still wrote 2 articles for
website per day. On 8th Ms. Cuc gave me a new job which is also writing articles but
for the company's new website about Legal English in both English and Vietnamese
for the same article.
The sixth week, from 12th to 16th October, in parallel with my routine work, I
wrote new articles for the new website of my company. In this week I just did two
days 12th and 13th because in 14th and 15th I was sick and I couldn’t come to the
company to continue my job
The seventh week, from 19th October to 23th October, I still continued my daily
work. I wrote 2 articles for website and a articles for the new website. In this week I
wrote articles quickly because I was familiar with the work and I rarely had trouble at
this work. Beside, on this week I helped Ms. Cuc to translate emails from foreign
customers.
The eighth week, from October 26th, 2020 to October 30th, 2020, I continue to
received new work, that was writing Facebook content for the Top Ten Travel fan
page. Ms. Thu instructed me and sent me the sample content so that I could follow.
The goal was to write 3 contents to schedule for the next week. On October 29th, I
resubmitted content and Ms.Vi Linh is the one who check the content and send me
back to correct. October 30th was the day to make up for the times I leave early.
14. 14
The last week, from November 2nd, 2020 to November 4th, 2020, these were the
last days of my internship so I only have to work 2 days this final week. On November
2nd, I kept writing 3 contents for the Top Ten Travel fan page for the next week. The
last day, I completed translation for all post in Legal English website and wrote the last
work report. At the end of that day, me, other interns and member of Internship team
congratulated me on completing the internship, they gave me some presents, then
everyone share their thoughts and took a photo.
15. 15
CHAPTER IV
INTERNSHIP SUMMARY
4.1 New skills acquired and skills improved
My job is to use a computer all the time and write every day so over a period of
practice, besides typing skills, my writing skills are improving. I know how to write a
complete and coherent text, linguistic skills is also improved, especially in English. I
also learned how to find resources and rewrite them so that they are not plagiarized.
For my most engaging articles and social networking post, I also learned the skills of
capturing viewers' minds to choose the right content for them.
The skills that I have gained through this internship time are very useful and
very important for my future job. Informatics skill is the first requirement that any
company needs, and having good computer skills will help in data management as well
as document processing. Writing is especially important for me because jobs that use
English are highly demanding in terms of language, especially writing skills. Have a
good writing skill make it easy on the job and do not get into trouble if you are asked
to write any English document. In addition, besides the English forum website, I was
also managed a Legal English website, which provided me with a lot of vocabulary
about trade, especially in the legal field.
4.2 Management techniques observed
Working in a team helps me learn from the staff group management skills. Their
work has always interacted with the customer and is always on time. Completing a
task is not only individual contribution but the whole group. They help each other to
divide the work and then debate before come up with a final plan, give the products to
customers. Each person in the group will have different responsibilities based on their
abilities.
Time management skills also what I learn from them. When they assigned a job,
they will discuss and divide up the work for each person. After a period of time, they
gather together to find out the problems and solve it as soon as possible before
customers receive it. That is the way they take the pressure off and avoid the late.
4.3 Classroom skills employed
Two skills I learned in school that I have applied to my job are writing skill from
16. 16
Academic Writing third edition book (by Alice Oshima, Ann Hogue, 1998) and
translation skill from Vietnamese-English Business Translation and English-
Vietnamese Business Translation book (University of Social Sciences and Humanities,
2014)
Writing skill learned from Academic Writing is very useful because it is
difficult but essential skills in my job. The articles on the website require a high
degree of form and structure of the text so the knowledge from this subject helps me
write articles for the website especially Dien dan tieng Anh and Legal English more
easily. I have skills in writing coherent and the connotation of ideas. A similar point
between website article and Writing subject is that they all based on the keyword.
Two translation courses help me to identify the correct sentence structure
and translation fluently and less confusedly. Knowledge from this subject makes my
compilation easier no matter from Vietnamese to English or English to Vietnamese. I
know how to find the main word in the sentence and guess the meaning based on the
context.
4.4 Problems encountered
During the internship I encountered some minor problems because what I
learned at school was not the same as at work:
The first problem is time management. When I first start the job, I had
problems in allocating time. I did not finish the work on time. After a few weeks I
started to get used to my job and figured out how to shorten my work time. It doesn’t
take very long to think and rewrite the article from another source. I already know
how to replace the image link instead of finding the link of each image.
The second is the technical malfunction. At first, I had some problems
when posting articles as reloaded due to opening too long, causing me to start over
again, or formatting errors or images not displaying. I have drawn the experience
myself and always open a similar post page to copy the completed post over to avoid
the other page being reloaded. After finishing writing I checked carefully in the
article to see whether any wrong text font or format and correct it. The image is
always leading the right path so that it does not show an error.
However, there are still some issues that I have not done yet. There are
17. 17
no articles written by me that are mostly written from other sources. Due to the
limited time, it is possible to think and write my own article. Less, there might be
some sort of mistake. Secondly, I have not been able to apply many of the English
skills I learned in this job because of the nature of my job and my limitations.
4.5 Lesson learned
After this internship, I learned collaboration skills, how to work together
to share a job and share my experiences with others to help them quickly complete
their work. This skill is very important because if you do not know how to work in
group, it will lead to failure of the group. I also learned problem solving skills, when
faced with a difficult problem and no one could help, have to find my own way.
Because when I have a real job, there is not always someone next to support me so I
have to solve myself, which is a testament to my true ability.
However, I am still not confident and afraid to express my opinions in
the work. People will find me a person who has no political views and is not assertive
at work.
18. 18
CHAPTER V
EVALUATION AND CONCLUSION
5.1 Self- evaluation and recommendations
5.1.1 Self-evaluation
After the internship, I found myself fulfilled the requirements of the company
and the school. Comply with company regulations on time, style of work and
relationships with employees in the company. In addition to my main job, I have done
well with other jobs that I have been assigned. Applied the knowledge I learned into
the work and learn more new experience.
5.1.2 Recommendations
5.1.2.1 Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry
Based on the realistically and my experience, I found that the school
curriculum was relatively effective, but there were some limitations. Here are some of
my suggestions:
Reduce some unnecessary subjects to strengthen specialized
subjects. Open practice classes instead of just teaching knowledge from books.
Organize more vocational courses.
Open long-term skills classes instead of just a few sessions.
There should be more courses with foreign teachers or
experienced trainers working in foreign companies.
Capacity assessment and organize training of trainers.
In order to prepare well for students after graduation, the school
needs to equip students with commercial awareness skills. In order to work, students
need to know how business or industry works. What they want to achieve through its
products and services?
Students also need to be taught how to build confidence because
today students are less confident in both studying and working. They afraid of doing,
afraid of making mistakes, afraid of giving out opinions and afraid of meeting difficult
situations.
In the soft skills I learned, self-discovery skills and event
19. 19
organizing skills are not really useful and realistic. These skills are only useful in the
school and when applied to work it really is not necessary. The recruiter will
appreciate candidates with professional skills and other soft skills that can serve the
job. Event management in the company will have a specialized department to take care
of so the event organizing skills are also not necessary.
5.1.2.2 Future interns
From my last internship, I would like to share some experiences with
future interns:
● Never complain when you have a hard time in your work or a job that
you do not like. Try to do the best you can, no matter what the result is.
● Ask for clarity or actively ask questions. It shows that you are really
serious about the job and you’re a very detail-oriented person. Just ask to make your
life easier.
● Do not be afraid of difficulties because the more you face those
situations, the more you learn how to deal with it in the next time.
5.2 Conclusion
After 2 months of internship, I found myself growing up. In the early days
when I started work, I was very surprised with new knowledge and the pressure of
work made me extremely stress. Thanks to the help of the mentors and staff in the
company helped me overcome the difficulties. In addition, I have the opportunity to
contribute ideas and all my ability to the work, it help me more confident and have
memories and memorable experience:
I learned how to write articles for a website.
Learned how to search for information on the internet and how to find
the right target audience for different articles.
Managing two English websites helped me improve my writing and
translating skills.
I also learned some more trade vocabulary.
The knowledge and skills I acquired will be the premise for my future
work. A worker have good English will have the opportunity to advance in higher
employment, have the opportunity to work abroad.
20. 20
However, besides the strengths of the education programs, there are
some weak points when applying to work:
Strengths: equip students with the basic and necessary knowledge for
work, the subjects that are linked together.
Weakness: too focused on theoretical that lack of practice. The learning
environment is unprofessional when it is impossible to manage the learning of every
student in the class. Some subject not related to specialization, wasting time and
money.
