This document presents a study on improving power quality in a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind power system integrated with the grid using a flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) controller. Specifically, it models a PMSG wind system in MATLAB/Simulink both without and with a static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) FACTS device along with a power oscillation damping (POD) controller. Three-phase faults are applied to the load side to analyze system performance. Results show that the SSSC is able to provide necessary voltage compensation during faults and reduce total harmonic distortion from 54.63% to 4.57%, demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing stability and power quality in the PMSG wind system.
