Fanny Taylor s False Claim in Rosewood Report and Film
January of 1923 became one of the most horrific times in U.S. history and for hundreds of
African Americans, when a white women named Fanny Taylor falsely claimed that she had
been beaten at the hands of a black man. Outraged at these alleged allegations, white men of
rosewood would parade the town in search for the person responsible. According to the
rosewood report these angered mobs had killed about eight blacks including Sam Carter who
supposedly knew where the acclaimed suspect was headed. There were numerous reports of the
massacre from newspapers, citizens, and later the survivors of the rosewood events. Many if
not all would offer there bias opinion as to what happen in the events of Rosewood, It was said
in the report that Most major Florida and Southern white newspapers ran the AP stories but did
not editorialize. They expressed alarm at the extent of racial violence, but generally said it
resulted from an attack on Fannie Taylor and blamed the subsequent deaths on the action of black
residents (Rosewood report, p.28) Many of these newspapers in the south and some in the north
would try to justify the violence of the massacre, some like the Tampa Morning Tribune stating
that it was the abuse of a defenseless white women that stirred up the white men to cause the
violence they did. It was also said in the report that African American newspapers Condemned the
entire episode. (Rosewood report p.2) In 1997, almost 74 years after the Rosewood events, John

Intervention Based On Humanitarian Ideals
The notion of intervention based on humanitarian ideals is not a novel concept in the realm of
international relations. Even Hitler maintained that his 1938 invasion of Czechoslovakia was
conducted to protect the lives of those Czechoslovaks endangered by their government (Bellamy,
2009). However, the doctrine of the Responsibility to Protect(R2P) has attracted significant
mention in political discourse and academia since the end of the cold war not least with the
surfacing of state sponsored violence during the Arab Spring . This essay, with the help of
relevant examples such as Kosovo, Darfur, Libya and Syria will aim to debate the notion that R2P
will only be utilised when it is in the interests of major powers.
The Peace of Westphalia (1648) which ended the Thirty Years War by instituting a political era
made up of sovereign states having absolute jurisdiction over all physical and political matters in
the confines of their territory established state sovereignty as a central tenet of international relations
(Krasner, 1995 1996). The sovereignty of the State was a sacrosanct principle in the Westphalian
system a value enshrined in Chapter 2.7 of the UN Charter, which asserts: Nothing contained in the
present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially
within the domestic jurisdiction of any state (The United Nations, 1945).
With an aim to put to bed the debate surrounding the 1999 military intervention

My Goals For My First Semester
After two full weeks of college I have quickly learned that college is very stressful and if I want to
be successful I need to learn how to set practical goals and acquire necessary tactics to accomplish
each goal in the given amount of time. I have set three goals for my first semester of college to
achieve success in both academic and personal areas in my life. I want to receive a 4.0 GPA, only
have up to one absence in each class, and be able to run seven miles nonstop, I will complete these
three goals all in my first semester of college. With essential goalsetting strategies I am equipped
with I will be able to accomplish my three goals in the timeframe given and set myself up for
success for next semesters as a UNC student. My first goal is to earn a 4.0 GPA this fall
semester. This is an enabling goal because I will need I need to have above a 3.8 to get into the
nursing program at UNC, therefore getting perfect grades this semester will set me up for
success in the future semesters. To accomplish this goal, I will have to study for at least two
hours a day, Monday through Friday. I will also need to go to at least three hours of tutoring
each week. I live in a pre nursing living community, therefore my RA has tutoring hours and the
school provides two hours for each class of tutoring a week. I am a disorganized person and I rarely
use a planner, and to get a 4.0 I will need to be very organized. To address this potential obstacle, I
will sit down every Sunday and

Current ratios of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters
Current ratio= Current Assets/current liabilities
Current ratio in 2011= $1131527/471374=2.40
Current ratio in 2010=$495269/238055=2.08
Current ratio in 2009= $417,233/ 106,456=3.9
There was a reduction in the current ratio of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters from 2009 to 2010
from in 3.9 in 2009 2.4 in 2010 and 2.08 in 2010.this shows that the liquidity of the firm is has
dropped and then improved over the three years. The firm can able to pay its short term obligations
as they fall due since the current ratio exceed 1and therefore quite stable.
Working capital
Working capital = Current assets Current liabilities
Working capital in 2011 = $ 1131527 471374=$660153

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is more efficient than other firms in the industry as it has stable
ratios that have an upward trend.
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is efficient in utilizing its assets to generate sales as shown by
the increase from $0.92 in 2009 to $1.93 in 2010.
I would consider investing in Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. This is because based on the ratio
analysis the firm is not insolvent since it can meet its debts obligations as they fall due. Also the
trend in the financial statements indicate a general increase in the value of assets hence a favorable
investment. Also the working capital has increased over the three years. The current assets have
continued to be more than the current liabilities over the three years. Therefore the increase in
working capital reflects that the firm has improved its ability to pay its current liabilities over the
three years making it an ideal company to invest

Antigone By Sophocles Antigone
In Sophocles, Antigone begins with the stages of grief as Antigone mourns the loss of her two
brothers, Polyneikes and Eteokles, who die simultaneously in face to face combat in Thebes.
Eteokles dies with honor fighting for the Thebesians and is honored with rituals and a proper
burial. The body of Polyneikes, who attempted to burn the city of Thebes, is left for the dogs
and birds to savage. Thesbesian s law forbids anyone giving a traitor, like Polyneikes, a proper
burial, for that itself is a crime punishable by death. Antigone is angered that Polyneikes is not
going to receive a proper burial and is determined that she must honor him even if it means the end
of her life. Antigone alone attempts to bury her brother, but is captured and imprisoned, at which
point she decides to form a noose around her neck and end her life. Sophoclesleaves the reader to
question whether Antigone s suicide is an act of heroism, a stand for the citizens of Thebes, or a
selfish way of coping with personal trauma. Antigone sought assistance in burying her brother
from her only family member alive, her sister, Ismene, who tries to reason with her. Ismene
proclaims, Remember, we re women. How can we fight men? They re stronger (Sophocles 749).
The physical statures of neither Polyneikes nor Antigone were not ever mentioned, but in general
men typically weigh more and have a larger build than women. We have to assume that she doesn t
want to elicit help from others because the risk of

Sociological Theories For Deviance Fall Under The Concept...
According to sociologist Edwin Lemert, the majority of sociological theories for deviance fall
under the concept of primary deviance. However, Lemert considered secondary deviance to be
more important. Everyone is guilty of primary deviance. However, this does not mean that they
perceive themselves to be a bad person. This is perception is where secondary deviance comes
in. With secondary deviance, the individual, is labeled by the act of deviance that they
committed, whether it is by themselves or by others. Eventually, this label is accepted by the
individual, as a part of their identity. While primary deviance consists of an act that takes up a
small amount of time in a person s existence, secondary deviance is something that sticks with the
individual for the long term. Potentially, this type of deviance can stick with an individual for the
rest of their lives. There are two different theories that can compare and contrast how a concept
such as secondary deviance can gain a foothold in an individual s life. These two theories are the
differential association theoryand the control theory.
The differential association theory touts deviance as something that is learned. It is learned through
the inter personal relationships and influences that an individual has with those close to them.
Furthermore, the theory declares that learning deviance is similar to, if not identical to, learning
anything else. With the differential association theory, the individual is taking a

Symbolism InThe Lamb, By William Blake
The poem The Lamb written by William Blake is a part of his collection of poems called Songs
of Innocence. His outlook on life when writing this collection of poems was optimistic and
showed his great appreciation for life and especially nature. In this poem, which is pastoral in
nature, Blake uses imagery to emphasize the innocence (bordering on naivety) that he sees in
the world. This works in tandem with Blake s pleasant diction to create a tone of comfort and
well being, which reflects the optimistic point of view that Blake had on life. Additionally the
religious symbolism throughout the poem highlights the love that the speaker as well Blake feels
towards nature and all living beings. Through the pleasant diction, the imagery of innocence and
the religious symbolism, Blake spreads his message and belief that all aspects of life are pure and
are deserving of love because they were all created by a benevolent and generous god. Blake
consistently chooses words that create a feeling of safety and welcoming. In the opening stanza
Blake creates an overall sense of well being and comfort. First, he describes the lamb s setting;
Blake illustrates a stream by which the lamb feeds. By doing this right away, Blake subtly
incorporates the idea of nature which is characteristic of pastoral poems. Blake views nature as a
beautiful work of art which deserves to be appreciated, this is reflected in his choice of the word
stream, as opposed to another body of water such as a

Dog Memoir
Memoir
Although my family had talked about getting another dog I never actually thought we were really
going to. A couple days before we went to Lamancha, my parents had to fill out an application
online for permission to adopt a dog from them. The application included that we had to have
references and asked questions like where the dog would sleep, if my parents had kids and how old
they were, if we were good with dogs. All kinds of questions to make sure that the dog we picked
got the best possible home. Lamancha is an adoption center for dogs, horses, and cats that are

asked my mom, Are we getting a puppy today? I guess you ll have to wait and see she said. Since
my mom watched kids after school, my sister and I had to wait to go anywhere until those kids left.
When they left, my family all got in the car and we drove to Lamancha; an animal rescue center.
When we got there and pulled in there were dogs everywhere, they surrounded the car. There
were probably about 15 dogs, both big and little. All the dogs eventually backed up and we were
able to park.
We told the person who was working there what we were looking for. She brought us to the back
where there were three adult dogs; a boxer, a lab and a Pitbull and then we saw the three puppies.
The first puppy was an all black with a white shape that looked like a star on her stomach and a
white strip on her nose Boxador, which is a mix between a boxer and a lab a girl. The second
puppy was an all black girl Boxador, and the third was a yellow lab boy. The first dog was the one

Artificial Reef Case Study
After evaluating the two suggested proposals against the main criteria of social/ political, economic
and environmental it was concluded that proposal B, to construct the artificial reef is the most
suitable option to implement at Palm Beach to ensure both short and long term health and
sustainability of the beach. Even though the artificial reef had some negatives, they were
outweighed by the environmental, social and long term economic advantages. The artificial reef is
an earth cantered system which can be implemented as an environmentally form of economic
growth, and it is a sustainable use of resources which will ensure that Palm Beach is maintained and

Additionally, since the destructive waves break on the reef then only the low energy, constructive
waves reach the shore which makes deposition possible therefore the beach will have the chance to
naturally build up sand and widen. Even though the beach nourishment program is already
established so there are no initial costs required and the artificial reef has high construction costs,
around $16.9 million to be implemented, the reef has very low maintenance costs (to ensure it is
working effectively) this is minute in comparison of the ongoing costs of the beach nourishment
program. However, with the artificial reef there may be the need to implement another program or
to continue the beach nourishment program to support it. Yet, even though there are extremely
high initial costs, the artificial reef would increase tourism and support local businesses, which
outweighs and justifies the large cost as in the long term it will be economically beneficial. Also, it
is aesthetically pleasing, attracts diverse marine life, improves surf quality and recreational amenity
so it will attract tourists and will take pressure off the natural reefs whilst aiding to stabilise the
beach. Overall, the implementation of an artificial reef would be effective coastal management
strategy as

Esperanza Rising Quotes
The main character of the book, Esperanza Rising, is a young girl named Esperanza. The story
begins in Aguascalientes, Mexico on a beautiful ranch owned by Esperanza s father. However,
Esperanza and her family are forced to immigrate to America. Throughout the journey, Esperanza
reveals several of her personality traits. All of these traits can be represented by symbols. First, a
bag of coins can symbolize Esperanza s selfishness and arrogance in the beginning of the story. I
chose this because a selfish and conceited person would want more of something and believe he
or she is superior to other people. Esperanza s selfishness shines through on page 69 where the
author writes, Mona, she said, and reached up to touch the doll. Esperanza quickly jerked it
away and put it back in the valise, covering it with the old clothes. Also, her arrogance is shown
on page 67 when Esperanza is boarding a train filled with peasants and she says, We can t travel in
this car. It s not clean and the people don t look trustworthy. These quotes clearly suggests that
Esperanza dislikes sharing her possessions with the less fortunate, wants more for herself, and
believes that she is too... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her hard work can be signified by a shovel. I chose this object because many jobs that involve
shovels, such as constructing, require great effort and persistence. Esperanza shows her great
work ethic on page 166 when she says, I could work in the fields or in the sheds and Melina and
Irene have already offered to watch Pepe and Lupe. Her hard work is also displayed on page 182
where the author writes, She put her hands under the faucet, rinsed off the avocado, and patted
them dry. They felt better, but still looked red and weathered. She took another avocado, cut it in
half, swung the knife into the pit and pulled it from the flesh. These quotes suggest that Esperanza
is willing to work hard to support her

Complementary And Alternative Medicine ( Cam ) Essay
Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) had risen considerably in the past decades. The
use of CAM is widespread. Many individual countries have used the term for the CAM definitions
approach when discussing the practices and products. The interest and use of CAM in healthcare
systems are integrating various methods with origins outside of mainstream medicinefor treatment
and health promotion. Different countries have view and used CAM within their regulations.
Body
General definition of CAM
Firstly, one of the most widely used for CAM definitions is, the World Health Organization
(WHO)defined CAM as: a broad set of health care practices that are not part of a country s tradition
and not integrated into the dominant health care system. Other terms sometimes used to describe
these health care practices includes natural medicine , non conventional medicine and holistic
medicine. (World Health Organisation, 2004).Secondly, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH)
National Centre for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) come across with CAM
defined : as a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not
presently considered to be part of conventional medicine.Alternative medicine often refers to the use
of therapies as substitutes for biomedical treatment, and complementary medicine refers to the use
of such therapies in conjunction with biomedicine with CAM. (NCCAM, 2007).
It is important to realize CAM

My argument is in favor for the defendant in the case between Guiles V. Marineau. After a student

school district and family of the student take their discrepancy to court. I found multiple sources
pulled from sources such as, FindLaw s United StatesSecond Circuit case and opinions. (n.d.).,

that the school was infringing on his first amendment, I feel as if this was not correct. The
school had every right, and even more power than that, that could induce a dress code that
involved identical uniforms. For example, according to ProCon.org. 2017, In Long Beach, CA,
after two years of a district wide K 8 mandatory uniform policy, reports of assault and battery in
the district s schools decreased by 34%, assault with a deadly weapon dropped by 50%, fighting

possession of weapons (or weapon look alikes ) decreased by 52%, possession of drugs went down

Colorectal Cancer Increasing Risk Factors
To start, one already has an increased chance of getting cancer if one already has a history of
colorectal, ovarian, endometrial, or breast cancer. Thus, due to her family s history of getting
colorectal cancer, Ms. Wilson should have already been more wary of colorectal cancer. Although
her race is not mentioned, the following races have highest occurring colon cancerrates from highest
to lowest: Black, White, Asian/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan natives, and then
Hispanic. With the specificity of sex, women are less likely than men to contract colorectal cancer,
but do so at roughly the same incidence. In addition, being 61 years old gave her a 0.92%
chance of developing colorectal cancer after 10 years, 2.37% after 20 years, and 3.76 after 30
years [5]. In regards to environmental factors, colon cancer shares many similarities with other
forms of cancer. For example, some environmental factors for colorectal cancer are diet, tobacco,
and lack of exercise.
In addition, there are several polyposis disorders, colorectal cancers that are passed on via errors or
mutations within the genetic code, that can also contribute to the development of colorectal cancer.
Examples of polyposis disorders are familial adenomatous polyposis, turcot syndrome, attenuated
familial adenomatous polyposis, and hyperplastic polyposis syndrome. On the other hand, non

Best Example Of Roman Colosseum
Name the best example of Roman Amphitheatre , most people will respond, the Colosseum ,
originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre. Colosseum is located in the heart of Rome,
attracting millions of people every year enchanted by its astonishing architecture and history. The
Colosseum is the largest stone built amphitheater ever built in the world measuring 190 by 155
meters and was commissioned in the 1st century AD by the emperors of the Flavian Dynasty as a
gift to the citizens of Rome. The Colosseum, however, were used in ancient times for spectacles and
other games, such as gladiatorial combats and animal slaughtering. However, huge structures have
served a number of purposes and there is always a reason and story behind it. The Roman
amphitheater(Colosseum) has its own story. Before the Flavian amphitheater was built, Vespasian
is the emperor of the Roman Empirefrom 69 to 79 A.D and he was the ruler and leader of action at
that time. Before he became the glorious emperor though, four consecutive emperors commit
suicide for being greedy and vicious leaders. People were shattered lives in poverty and therefore,
Vespasian must think and provide something that will get the attention of people and to avoid
rebellion in which he did and succeed by providing them a big permanent arena to stage different
types of entertainment, and as a result, he gains popularity and have boosted his wealth and power.
However, Vespasian died in 79 A.D before the Colosseum was

U.s. Military Defense And Education
Security is most highest priority in every country but To nurture a secure nation, federal spending
must be balanced among military defense and programs that provide economic security, such as
education and health care . A worthy portion of any country s budget is spent on defence . To
some extent it is not a good idea for us to spend money on defending ourselves from imaginary
enemies. We spend significant sums of money preparing for wars that we later create and ignore
the needs of our own country. There are also other important sectors which needs to develop to
bring economic growth. It should be much better to spent in areas such as social welfare, health, and
education. We do not need such a massive, sprawling military... Show more content on

But it turns out that military spending is actually a singularly good proxy for measuring just how
big the multiplier for government spending is. Countries that have a military or army enjoy an
array of benefits, ranging from job employment to the military, as well as a form of protection in
the event of military conflict. Some countries need a strong military more than others, depending
on their strength amongst other countries. The army also provides different job opportunities to
locals who leave near military bases. Thousands of folks work in different departments in the
military building planes, ammunition, guns, tanks, and other supplies need during combat. In
simple terms, some people rely on the military for work so that they can provide for their
families. A military that is trained and funded by the government can provide defense for a nation
in the event of military or political conflict. In other words, just having an army can make other
countries reconsider invading your country as they can assess whether they stand a chance to win
or lose their platoons and expend a lot of resources and reputation. Additionally, having a strong
military can allow some nations to mobilize their personnel to help others during military conflict.
For instance The U.S. continues to give Israel military aid to the tune of $3 billion every year, with
plans to expand aid to $4 billion annually.

Unmanned Vs. Automated Drones Essay
The purpose of this research paper is to explore unmanned or automated drones for the use of
package delivery and the impact upon the consumer. Both businesses and consumers have had a
significant interest in using machines to do what many consider the manual task of moving items
from the seller to the consumer. Banking, telecommunications, and grocery shopping were once
thought to require personal interaction to perform transactions. Through innovation, each of these
industries has transformed through some form of automation. The shipping industry may be on the
precipice of such an evolution. I work in the transportation industry, and there has been
significant interest in the use of unmanned vehicles to deliver parcels. I will explore drone
technology and the impact to consumers and the logistic industry as drones are used in
operations. The reasons vary, but overwhelming demand is originating from retailers that have
relied on third party companies to connect products to the buyer. I will also discuss how there
will be a continued need for people in the logistics industry. The future of small parcel delivery
will eventually include the use of drones rather than relying exclusively on methods dependent on
people to deliver items. Small packages are considered bags or boxes that weigh less than twenty
pounds, and the average weight in which potential drone operating retailers are focused are those
weighing five pounds or less. The compelling factor for this

Analysis Of October Skies And Queen Of Katwe
Throughout history, people have risen who have influenced modern day society. Their inventions
or strong characters have marked them as important historical figures. Many are still remembered
today, due to the inspiration they have passed on, and many of these have also had movies
published telling their story. Movies such as October Skies and Queen of Katwe tell stories of two
separate beings, who have had a great impact in modern days. Although Homer Hickamand Phiona
Mutesi struggle to find their paths to success due to their circumstances and background, Phiona
Mutesi story possesses a more accessible storyline because of its emphasis on international figures
rather than national.
The movies October Skies and Queen of Katwe both hold two separate main characters, each
which is struggling in life in their own way and just wants to change their life. For Homer
Hickam, in October Skies, his dream is to do something with his life that does not include
mining for coal. His desire in life is to get away from his hometown by building a rocket and
hopefully getting a scholarship into college. On the other hand, there is Phiona Mutesi, in Queen
of Katwe, whose desire is to escape her life of poverty and have her family live a better life. The
way she goes about it is by entering a chess competition, which if she wins she will get a reward
that will help her build a better life. Both Homer and Phiona have the same dream, to escape. They
have the desire to be something better, and

Abstract: Feed forward control is a reliable for rejecting fast and dynamic voltage disturbances in
the phase grid. Mainly in this scheme implemented in phase voltages of the Wyes connected
configuration. Under this unbalanced and distorted grid conditions, the online conversion of
line to line values into the phase value is unworkable. In order to an exploit full advantages of
feed forward controller is a most appropriate modulator is needed. In this article the feed forward
of grid line to line voltages is used in phase voltages. The introduced feed forward method is
implemented in Implicit Zero Sequence Discontinuous Pulse Width Modulation (IZDPWM)
technique that is compatible for grid connected inverters. Regarding in the IZDPWM grid
topologies distorted the harmonics of the grid voltages. Hence, a sinusoidal current is injected to
the grid. Moreover, the measuring grid line to line voltages two sensors are required; hence an
overall system costs is reduced and control system reliability is increased. The time domain

Golden Age Of Athens
Athens had what is known as its Golden Age between 480 and 430 BCE, and while it was a
relatively short period of time, it laid the foundations of western civilization.
As the Golden Age dawned, the autonomous poleis (city states) that had formed in the preceding
two to three centuries had set aside their differences and united to face the threat of invasion posed
by the Persian Empire. Though vastly outnumbered, the Greeks had finally defeated the Persian
armies in 480 BCE. In the years of peace that followed, the Greeks made significant advances in art,
literature, science and philosophy, as pride and patriotism drove them to greater heights of
creativity and in Athens, an experiment with a new kind of government flourished under the
statesman Pericles.
Prior to about 600 BCE, Athens had been an oligarchy, with an aristocratic minority controlling its
government. But enlightened Athenian leaders began instituting reforms to the city s government
between 600 and 500 BCE. Solon (c. 638 558 BCE) introduced a new code of laws that was less
harsh than Athens existing legal code (laid out by an Athenian statesman called Draco, hence the
term draconian to describe repressive laws) , and also set up a Popular Assembly of Citizens,
although a council of aristocrats still made the laws.
Cleisthenes (c. 570 508 BCE) known as the Father of Democracy expanded democracy still
further, creating a Council of 500, which consisted of 50 representatives from each Greek tribe. He

Murder Mystery Persuasive Essay
Getting revenge on a person for something they did previously because feeling as though they
did not get proper repercussions is often a recurring reason someone uses to try to justify actions
they do. In Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie, Samuel Ratchett, whose name is
actually Cassetti, is murdered in the middle of the night by twelve fellow passengers because of a
particular kidnapping he does years earlier, Daisy Armstrong. Hercule Poirot sets out to find out
who kills Ratchett. He originally suspects that it is just one person, but soon figures out that twelve
people were apart of the vicious attack. Vengeance is described as Punishment inflicted or
retribution exacted for an injury or wrong , while justice is described... Show more content on

For example, the murderers begin warning Ratchett of his approaching death with ominous letters.
The group constantly sends threatening letters, and notes about the Armstrong case to Ratchett that
eventually starts to make him seem paranoid and crazy. People around him just believe he is
losing his mind, so they ignore him until he is actually dead. Furthermore, the assassins attempt to
mislead the detectives when they purposely leave belongings of the murderer in Ratchett s room
to make it seem as though they are trying to incriminate that person. Colonel Arbuthnot is the only
person on the train who admits to smoking using a pipe, so the pipe cleaner found in Ratchett s
room makes it seem as though someone is trying to frame him. This makes the detectives feel as
though Colonel is innocent, which is another example of the processed thinking the murderers do.
Finally, Ratchett is stabbed twelve time, which is both a metaphor, and part of the revenge. The
group feels as though proper justice is not served in the Armstrong, so they stab Ratchett twelve
time symbolizing twelve jury members, as well as a stab for each other as revenge. Poirot realizes
the connection when he says, And then, Messieurs, I saw light. They were all in it. . . . A jury is
composed of twelve people there were twelve passengers Ratchett was stabbed twelve times (306).
The metaphor and emotion behind the stabbing makes it clear that the murder of Ratchett is an act
of pure vengeance. In conclusion, the most meticulous manner the murder is conducted is the
manner in which the murder is

But in the long term the distribution channels would be clear and without interferences again. Also
it would be possible to have a clear marketing direction and therefore planning is possible again in
the future without interferences of the different distributors with each others. That would
practicably mean that Vreni should decide to get out of the contract of Asal Products, Inc. even
when there would be legal problems. Moreover, the business relationships to this company could be

Another alternative should be to create a plant in Europe so now they don t have top ay all the

Prohibition Essay
Prohibition
The 18th amendment, known as prohibition, had America in fits when it was ratified in 1919.
The government was hoping to achieve a healthier, efficient society with good morals and a break
for women from receiving beatings from drunken husbands. Although the motives behind
prohibition were reasonable, it was so corrupted from the beginning that it never could have
successfully been carried out. America became a lawless period, and many Americans felt that if
they could get away with ignoring one law, then they did not have to follow any others (Axelrod
239). However, it may have been necessary for the progression of America for it accomplished a
great many other feats other than sobering up citizens. Women fought actively for ... Show more

However, it was not only Americans who were feeling the sting of prohibition. Foreigners,
especially Germans, were angry at the movement, feeling that they were being discriminated against
for how they lived (Kyvig).
Alcohol was, at first, relief from stress for men, but soon became a part of society as a whole.
Alcohol was a big factor in determining your social status and offered many men and women
legal jobs to support themselves and their families. It was cheaper than other drinks, such as coffee
or tea, and it was safer to drink than unpasteurized milk or impure water, so it was the ideal drink,
some elderly citizens needed alcohol for medical reasons (Kyvig). Nevertheless, this did not stop the
ratification of the 18th amendment.
When government embraced prohibition, what was taken for granted became lost. Women being
submissive towards men, men holding down a secure job, and the economic boom of the Roaring
Twenties all came to pass when alcohol was prohibited. Although considered by some an
advantage, others saw how women used their newfound freedom as offensive. Flappers an alcohol
became and almost indistinguishable couple. Although it gave women a chance to show their
knowledge and class, temperance was thrown out the window (Lerner 176). As well as women
breaking free, jobs were being broken off, throwing men and women into

Persuasive Essay On Air Traffic Control
The odds are that at some point in time, most people in America will travel by air. What most of
these people do not realize is that a simple flight is in reality a well oiled, complex machine unlike
any other air navigation service provider in the world. After the Wright brothers took their first
successful flight, America embraced air travel. The Federal Aviation Agency (now Administration)
officially began operations in May of 1958, and later developed a sophisticated air traffic control
system that is responsible for the largest volume of air traffic in the world ( A Brief History of
the FAA ). Today, however, many politicians believe that government involvement in air traffic
control is inhibiting the overall performance of air traffic control. Several bills have been
proposed to Congress since the 1970s in attempt to separate air traffic control (referenced as ATC)
from the FAA by privatization, corporatization, or other means (Elias 2). The most recent of these
bills has caused serious debate in the aviation world over economic policies, safety regulations, and
overall effectiveness of the current ATC system. The Aviation Innovation, Reform, and
Reauthorization Act (21st Century AIRR Act) as proposed by Representative Bill Shuster should
not be passed by Congress because it would privatize air traffic control by removing it from the
Federal Aviation Administration. This would entail the creation of a board of stakeholders who
would have the power to make regulatory

Archetypes In A Separate Peace
that I had been thrown into it, in the middle of a fight, (86). There are two rivers at Devon,
Devon River, and the Naguamsett. Devon River was clean, and represented innocence, which can
be seen in how it reminds Gene of Finny, who is innocent. This is where Gene s first baptism takes
place. Which, was purifying. However, the Naguamsett was described as saline, ugly, and fringed
with mud, seaweed, and marsh. This where Gene s second baptismtakes place. This is the opposite
of Devon River, it is full if impurities, and represents loss of innocence. So, when Gene fell into
the Nagumsett River he is baptized in it by because he becomes fully submerged in the river. This
baptism was in impure, murky water, so it is like a reverse baptism, which shows loss of
innocence, and Gene becoming impure, and less innocent. Also, Gene s baptisms occurred at
different times, showing the differences between both baptisms. The first one occurred during the
summer when Devon resembled the garden of Eden. But, the second one occurred during the

The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer Analysis
The
Similarities of The Wife s Lament and The Seafarer Life away from home can be hard, but
imagine what it would be like if it was to a harsh sea or under a giant tree. In the two poems we
will be dissecting, you will see how these two different situations have a lot in common. In one of
the oldest poems known in the world, The Seafarer was written long by an unknown author.
Throughout the poem we see how the man takes his exile emotionally and physically, all the while
he sails the sea and world. He goes to other countries and shows how on his missions he sees
amazing things, but he expresses how sad he is. In the second poem, The Wife s Lament, a woman
is exiled to a cave by her husband, and she goes through all her thoughts and emotions, and she
decides to get out her anger and heartbreak for her husband, she curses him while is out at sea.
While we go through both of these poems, we will find differences between exiles. In The
Seafarer, it isn t known whether the man was exiled, or if he willingly left his home.
Throughout the poem you can see the way that the man holds himself together, and how he feels
about the people on the land. This the man does not know for whom on land it turns out most
favourably, how i, wretched and sorrowful, on the ice cold sea... In this line, we can see that the
man is very angry about having to be out at sea. While he is out at sea, he talks about his family
back at home that later help us connect The SeaFarer to The Wife s Lament. You can see how
the mans actions and words were very Pagen at the beginning of the poem, but slowly transform
into Christian values and words change by the end of the poem. This leads many people to
believe that the original poem have been translated by high church member, because they were
the only ones back then that were educated enough to read and write. If it were translated by a
high ranking church member, it is possible that some of it might have been changed. As you
move onto the second poem, The Wife s Lament, we look at an exile, through a different person s
eyes. When the Wife is still on land, she is still exiled far away to a cave area under a great tree.
Although she was not on the seas, she still found

The Investigation Of The Fbi
The FBI began in 1908, as a small offshoot of the Justice Department. Due to increased complexities
that The Justice Department could no longer handle, President Roosevelt, through much
controversy, commissioned the bureau to aid in the work of The Justice Department. The creation
of the bureau did not come about easily, but with the support of Attorney General Charles
Bonaparte, Roosevelt bypassed Congress to establish the force, which later became known
officially as the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In its early days, the FBI s responsibilities differed
greatly from the role it plays today. Because there were few federal crimes, agents investigated

Hoover, [given] the title of Special Assistant to the Attorney General, devised plans to arrest
thousands of foreign born Communists and turn them over to immigration officials to face non
criminal deportation proceedings. These plans were heavily debated in terms of their total
disregard for basic human rights, and further contributed to corruption of President Harding s
administration; this also resulted in a negative perception of the FBI. Ironically, to fix the FBI s
image, Attorney General Stone named 29 year old J. Edgar Hoover Acting Director of the Bureau
of Investigation. Hoover s actions in the years to come mirrored those of his beginning days in
office. Everything he did help shape the FBI as a powerful component of the government, but his
actions were often self centered, and did not completely benefit the country as a whole. Despite
this, the FBI would not have become such an important agency if it hadn t be for Hoover s work.
Through Hoover s strong leadership, though corrupt and sometimes inhumane, he shaped the FBI

Long Term Effects Of Hunger In Africa
Africa was identified as the world s poorest inhabited continent. We waste over 30 million pounds
of food a year. That food that we waste can go to African. To help people in need of food. This
year, nearly 9 million children younger than five years old will die needlessly, more than half from
hunger related causes. Chronic hungeraffects more than 925 million people in the world and is, in
and of itself, a potentially deadly condition. Poor people do not have the resources whether land,
tools or money needed to grow or buy food on a consistent basis. People in African starve each day.
Not every poor person is hungry, but almost all hungry people are poor. More and more kids die
each day of thirst and starvation. Millions live with hunger and malnourishment because they
simply cannot afford to buy enough food, cannot afford nutritious foods or cannot afford the
farming supplies they need to grow enough good food of their own.

The Development of Cimetidine as Treatment for Peptic...
The drug cimetidine was launched in 1976, as a successful medication to treat peptic ulcers. Over
many centuries peptic ulcer has been a major cause of death, at any particular time about 4 million
people are effected with peptic ulcer, and the at least 6000 people die from this disease each year.
Peptic ulcer results from erosion within the walls three particular areas of the gastrointestinal tract
(GIT); the oesophagus, the stomach or the duodenum. This is due to the excessive production of
stomach acid, consisting of hydrochloric acid (HCl) and the enzyme pepsin, required for digestion
in the gastrointestinal tract; this can also lead the acid to reach the oesophagus. Under normal
circumstances the linings are protected from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, following surgery the symptoms associated with ulcers were not cured. This lead to
further understanding of the causes of peptic ulcers, and that the regular use of NSAIDs
medications such as aspirin to treat other illnesses induces ulcers (figure 2).
Aspirin inhibits the enzyme COX 1 which normally converts arachidonic acids to prostaglandins.
Prostaglandins are responsible for the positive feedback on non parietal cells to produce mucus and
bicarbonate protective layers and they show negative feedback on parietal cells, inhibiting acid
secretion. Thus inhibition of the COX 1 inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins hence decreased mucus
and bicarbonate production and increased acid production (figure 1).
Cimetidine treatment for NSAIDs/aspirin induced acid production was discovered upon
investigating histamine receptors located on the parietal cells. Histamine receptor activation,
triggers acid secretion, consequently, antagonising the histamine receptor decreases the gastric acid
production; thus aiming to treat peptic ulcers.
This discovery was initiated by James Whyte Black and William Duncan in 1964; with other
scientist s contributions, cimetidine was discovered at Smith Kline and French Laboratories (now
known as: GlaxoSmithKline) facilities in Philadelphia. Initially to design a histamine receptor
antagonist, its structure must be similar to that of the agonist histamine, thus it can competitively

The Tragedy Of The Red Tails
Films do not simply give someone words and ask them to create a world of their own; films
offer a complete other dimension that the viewer belongs to for a few brief hours. Without films
like Saving Private Ryan, society would not be able to experience the emotions of, in this case,
war, but the emotions of other people in general. Those who watched Milk for the first time
were suddenly smacked in the face by the reality of what it was like to stand up for their rights.
The audiences of Red Tails saw what it was like to get treated like you were less than someone
else, and how people needed to prove their worth to others. None of these films had anything to
do with events current from their times of release, but sometimes it is good to empathize with
our ancestors. Movies do not need to only ever show people being oppressed in order to connect
with an audience though, sometimes it is good to just allow people to feel raw emotions. Crash
addresses the oppressed by labeling everyone as oppressed and by also labeling everyone as the
oppressor, allowing the filmto truly connect to all audiences. Paul Haggis uses the film Crash to
portray what stereotypes people really think in, using the language as a vessel to take the audience
within their own subconscious.

The Need for a Revival of American Infrastructure
America made a multibillion dollar investment when the Federal Highway Act of 1956 was signed
into law by Dwight Eisenhower. This was a milestone for America, connecting the nation like it had
never been before. Since this time, however, the United States has done very little in terms of
infrastructure investment. Currently, the American Society of Civil Engineers ranks America s
infrastructureas a D + (2013). American no longer leads the world in the best roads, airports, rail,
or bridges. This is a serious problem that will lead to security, environmental, economic, and
political issues if not addressed fully and swiftly. America needs to act promptly to revive the
nation s infrastructure system before additional nations surpass the US while the cost becomes too
big to bear. The Interstate System that was created under the Federal Highway Act of 1956 cost
128.9 billion dollars and currently spans 46,876 miles long (Federal Highway Administration). This
system links the North to the South and the East Coast to the West Coast. Today, America does not
spend nearly the amount of time nor attention to the betterment of the nation s infrastructure. For
the last four year, the American Society of Civil Engineers, or ASCE for short, has ranked
America s system in the D range (NPR 2013). President of the society, Gregory DiLoreto, stated
that:

On June 25, 2004, Academy Award winning filmmaker, Michael Moore, released a controversial
film, Fahrenheit 9/11, to the nation, that examined the actions of the Bush Administration in the
time period following the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001. The film was
protested by the nation s conservatives and thought to be rather comical to the nation s liberals due
to the way that Moore portrayed President George W. Bushand the rest of the Republican Party.
Moore showed in detail the different events or decisions that he felt were disputable from Bush s
presidency, including the way he feels Bush unfairly powers the nation s population into following

This is where the elected officials place large investments in major corporations, during their
term(s), that prove to be very successful. Another part of the revolving door theory is that many
officials have lucrative opportunities waiting for them in the companies they dealt with while they
were still in their professional lives. They do this for the main reason that they and their families
will be able to stay in the power elite and maintain the benefits that come with the prestigious level
(www.michaelmoore.com).
Examined in the film was the event when Bush was to appoint his foreign policy team. All the
advisors he selected were viewed as major contributors in the political picture. It was observed
that all but one of these advisors were members of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), the
New York based organization that is a well renowned exponent of America s Insider establishment.
This was a common method used in an attempt to make the United States a one world government
ruled by the elite class. The CFR has made close to every decision in the past regarding foreign
policy, no matter what the political party of the current president. Therefore, when President Bush
joined forces with this council, it became practically impossible for a change in policy while the
Bush Administration is in power (www.thenewamerican.com).

The Japanese Bronze Mirrors And Its Impact On Japanese...
Japanese art has had a huge impact on the Japanese culture. It was created in various forms. New
styles and techniques were created like sculptures, paintings and pottery. Mirrors have played a
big role in their culture and was incorporated in people s everyday routine. It has significance in
their lives and symbolizes several things for them, especially the Japanese Bronze Mirror. The
mirror symbolizes the value of the Japanese culture and itself is a beautiful image to look at. In this
culture, their beliefs and values teaches important things to us and shows how their tradition is
something more than art.
The Japanese Bronze Mirror was created in the 12th century during the Heian period and it was
found in something called the mirror pool at the shrine of Mount Haguro. At Mount Haguro,
there were hundreds of other mirrors and leaving mirrors at that location, was considered as a
contribution. Offerings in Japan are traditions that the people take seriously and see the
importance of it. The mirror is decorated with two dancing cranes on one side, which is a
symbolism for a long life and marital fidelity. The other side was not decorated and it was a
reflective surface which would also be known as a mirror. Mirrors first came from China and China
had a significant impact on Japan for a long time. The mirrors were connected with a sun goddess
Amaterasu, ancestress of the Japanese emperors, because of their ability to reflect light (Joy). This

Infrastructure Of Infrastructure And Infrastructure
Infrastructure
We are constantly surrounded by infrastructure assets. Infrastructure consists of all the assets that
countries require to enable its daily operations and orderly functions. Transportation, energy,
communications and water, are some of the infrastructure assets that serve as the backbone to our
society. While traveling this summer with my family, I realized just how far behind the U.S. is
compared to other parts of the world when it is considered one of the most advanced countries in
the world. I thought to myself... Why hasn t the U.S. invested in such projects? China spends 7%
of its GDP on infrastructure and India spends 5%. The U.S. spends just over 3%. As a result, U.S.
infrastructure now ranks 14th globally according to the World Economic Forum s infrastructure
index.
In the current economic environment where interest rates are low and unemployment remains
elevated, a logical solution to stimulate growth would be to build, modernize, or replace our
infrastructure. Every 4 years, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) releases a Report
Card for America s Infrastructure that represents the condition and performance of the nation s
infrastructure. In 2013, the United States infrastructure grade was a D+. Although we recognize
the report is a little self serving, the statistics behind their research is compelling. According to the
report: the average age of the 84,000 dams in the country is 52 years old, one in nine of the nation s
bridges are rated

There are over three million devotees to Jainism. The beliefs include Jiva, the soul of everything in
the universe. All of our souls are infinite, but we are restricted by the weight of the body. Karma,
the buildup of selfishness that helps limit our souls. Reincarnation, the belief in the return of our
souls in karma back to the earth. Nirvana, the freedom of the soul achieved by relieving the selfish
manner. Lastly, Ahimsa, the belief in peace of all living animals living together in harmony. This is
the main focus of the religion, not injuring any living being.
The four sources of Karma in Jainism are; the want of food, clothing, sex, and other material
possessions, the giving in to anger, pride, deceit, and greed, speaking or acting in profane forms,
and holding false beliefs. The three ways to salvation are knowledge, knowing the Jain creed, faith,
believing the Jain creed, and conduct, following the Jain creed. Monks practice non violence,

South Sister Case Study
Summary of Geological History Roughly 45 50,000 years ago the South Sister that is also
known as Charity began its primary formation. It is the youngest of the three sisters and currently
the tallest. According to https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/ this time period is known as the
Rock Mesa Eruptive Cycle and it is during this cycle that the middle sister also began forming.
According to https://volcanoes.usgs.gov these early eruptions produced many rhyolite lava flows
and domes. Between 30 37,000 years ago the main cone of the south sister began to form
consisting of rhyolite and andesite domes and flows. The construction of the dome was then
completed and capped off by a massive eruption that left pyroclastic deposits up to 200 meters in
depth. Following this eruption a period of roughly 7000 years began that consisted of relatively
large eruptions of andesite and lava fountains. According to https://volcanoes.usgs.gov these lava
fountains fed lava flows that built up the apron of the cone and the initial summit crater. This crater
was later filled up and built upon by dactite flows, which now make up roughly the upper 150
meters of todays South Sister.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

REPORT ON CONSUMER BEHAVIOR IN SHOPPING MALLS
STUDY OF CONSUMER BEHAVIOR IN SHOPPING MALLS INTRODUCTION
Marketplaces in urban demographic settings attract a large number of buyers and sellers, which
can be termed as market thickness. The co existence of many shopping malls with traditional
markets in a marketplace causes market congestion. This problem may be resolved by developing
small kiosks for transactions and allowing consumers to test out customised products and services
from the main stores The growth of market share for specialised retailers and large departmental
stores depends on the size of the consumer segment in a given urban population. It is observed that
consumers buying preferences become more diversified as the extent of retail stores increases

Myriad number of literatures is available which have identified various dimensions and concepts of
customers‟ buying and consumption behavior. However, very few literatures are available
which have described about the various constructs of shopping behavior and even fewer
numbers of researchers have focused on Indian Consumers. According to Assael (1987),
shopping behavior is the most unique for behavior which the consumers exhibit. Gifts, clothing,
groceries, gifts and household items are some of the most common type of shopping which
consumers indulge in a highly frequent manner. But according to Dholakia (1999), occasion and
motives are also some crucial points which influence the consumers shopping behavior. For
example, for some consumers, shopping is all about getting the best deal out of bargaining, for
some (especially teenagers or the young crowd) shopping is a means of getting acquainted and
interact more with others in a social context and for some it is a way of breaking out from the
regular monotonous professional and personal routine (Reid and Brown, 1996). It is also possible,
that the motives behind two consumers shopping at the same store could be same or different.
Same motives may arise as when the customers look for convenience, shopping experience etc,
whereas motives mat vary as a result of compulsion or by free choice. Compulsion

The Old Man And The Sea Theme
The Old Man and the Sea
He always thought of the sea as la mar which is what people call her in Spanish when they love
her. (pg. 29) This is one of the many beautiful quotes from the novel The Old Man and the Sea by
Ernest Hemingway that shows his love for the sea. This incredible story goes through the battle of
an old, unlucky man and a huge fish. This particular man is a very experienced fishermen who has
gone 84 days without a catch. Ernest Hemingway wanted his readers to learn the importance of
understanding pride and ambition versus fate and chance and the ways that applies to everyday life.
This is shown through three major aspects which are his luck, fight to catch the fish, and his
journey home.

Santiago had gone so long without a single success that when he came close to catching a fish,
his willpower would not let him give up. His course that day was different from usual
considering that he set off very early and went extremely far out. It was effective however since
he hooked something early on, a something that was much more difficult than a usual catch,
especially for an old man by himself. His strength was enough but not enough to pull the fish up
on his own so he had to wait until it would come up for him. It was noon when i hooked him, he
said. And I have never seen him. (pg. 46) By nighttime it had been hours since he had gotten the
fish but he had still not seen him. Most people then would give up and head in but not the old
man. Fish, he said softly, aloud, I ll stay with you until I am dead. (pg. 52). Because of his old
age, this was almost true simply because he did not give up. Towards the end of the battle, the
book quotes He felt faint again now but he held on the great fish all the strain that he could. (pg.
91). Even in a moment of weakness, Santiago gave this fish his all. Despite the old man s age and
the size of the marlin. Santiago had too much pride in himself to let fate take it s course.
To most people, the journey home is sweet and beautiful, full of happy memories of the adventure
but Santiago s was far from that. Eventually the fish came to a place where the old

Thin Red Line Analysis
Thin Red Line consisted of multiple narrators discussing the battle narrative and varying
characters perspectives especially in the sequences that we watched. We are participating in the
film during this war sequence with the camera often on a track following behind the soldiers or
with a Steadicam but the reality is a handheld shot like we are running in the woods like a solider
or we are following the action. Other camera angles include single POV frames of soldiers and
what they are experiencing at that moment. Especially when the battle begins the American
soldiers have a heightened sense of sounds such as bullets whizzing by their heads in the fog.
These moments in the battle give a sense of fantasy disembodiment and derangement for the
soldiers during the chaos of the battle. When the shots are firing there is a sense of chaos to the
audience with the jump cut shots that attempt to fill in the viewer of all the madness. There were
multiple single POV frames that would fill in the viewer of the soldier s reactions and facial
expressions after they were shot or shot at portraying the stress and anxiety during warbattles.
Towards the end of the scene the camera angles consisted of American soldiers looking down on
the fallen and injured soldiers giving power to the white man. When it was... Show more content on

Causes Of The Triangle Fire
As 147 workers perished in the Triangle Fire, people finally understood the problems within the
garment factories. Under the Triangle Shirtwaist Company owners, Max Blanck and Isaac
Harris, the women laboring to sew waist skirts were dissatisfied with their terrible working
conditions and low wages. While working, the women, made up of mostly poor Italian and
Jewish immigrants, would constantly be yelled at and called sexist slurs by bosses and forced to
work long, tiring hours for little pay. Tired of these conditions, the workers of the Triangle
Shirtwaist Company in New York met in secret to form a union against the company in September
1909. The women acquired the backing of both the International Ladies Garment Workers Union
and the Women s Trade Union League which inspired many other women, both working and upper
class, to join their fight. Thousands of garment workers launched an eleven week strike on
November 22, 1909, which became known as the Uprising of Twenty Thousand. Although the
Uprising of Twenty Thousand was successful as they achieved the goals the women set, such as
increased wages and shorter hours, it ultimately failed because their platform did not address the
working conditions which would lead the the Triangle Fire. The motivation of the Triangle
Shirtwaist Company workers stemmed from little wages, long work days, and disrespect. Many of
the women of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company, as well as garment companies around New York
City, worked

Impact Of Technology On The Music Industry
Over the years, music has become portable, starting with the transistor to a set of headphones.
Technology has allowed us to create a diverse musical culture. Music will always have an effect
on one s culture, and it has definitely mad a huge impact on the use of technology. Cultural
diversity is about bringing people closer together though the World Wide Web. Many music
publishers are the key to cultural diversity when it comes to publishing all genres. They will
increasingly continue to play a part in promoting diversity by bringing music of all kinds and
forms to the music market. The way we access and listen to music has changed a lot in the music
industry. For some, it may seem easier to download your favorite song from your favorite artist,
but there are rules to the file sharing and downloading of music. Before there was file sharing,
people would gather in concert halls for impressive music from some of the best known
composers of all time. Today, there has been an abundance of ways to access and listen to music,
in writing this paper, my goal is to discuss copyrightlaws, file sharing, and the progression of how
we access music.
Before we reached the electronic musical era, there was good old fashion concert halls. People
would gather together in the concert halls to see many different composers perform, all from
which were in different eras; the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic era. By the year 1877, Thomas
Edison had discovered how to record and reproduce sound

Rhetorical Devices In King Charles II
Savile uses ethos, metaphors, and similes to persuade the readers to adopt his supportive and
compassionate tone towards King Charles II. Saville employs rhetorical devices to portray his
want for his readers to acknowledge his supportive and compassionate tone towards King
Charles II. He uses the metaphor dissimulation is a jewel of the crown , to portray the belief that
being untruthful is apart of wearing the crown and being King. This is also an example of
ethos. Savile is trying to make his audience believe that King Charles is only being deceitful
because it is apart of his duty as King. This is a display of his compassion towards King Charles II.
Saville also states that As a sword is sooner broken upon a feather bed than upon a table,

Fanny Taylor s False Claim in Rosewood Report and Film January of 1923 became one of the most horrific times in U.S. history and for hundreds of African Americans, when a white women named Fanny Taylor falsely claimed that she had been beaten at the hands of a black man. Outraged at these alleged allegations, white men of rosewood would parade the town in search for the person responsible. According to the rosewood report these angered mobs had killed about eight blacks including Sam Carter who supposedly knew where the acclaimed suspect was headed. There were numerous reports of the massacre from newspapers, citizens, and later the survivors of the rosewood events. Many if not all would offer there bias opinion as to what happen in the events of Rosewood, It was said in the report that Most major Florida and Southern white newspapers ran the AP stories but did not editorialize. They expressed alarm at the extent of racial violence, but generally said it resulted from an attack on Fannie Taylor and blamed the subsequent deaths on the action of black residents (Rosewood report, p.28) Many of these newspapers in the south and some in the north would try to justify the violence of the massacre, some like the Tampa Morning Tribune stating that it was the abuse of a defenseless white women that stirred up the white men to cause the violence they did. It was also said in the report that African American newspapers Condemned the entire episode. (Rosewood report p.2) In 1997, almost 74 years after the Rosewood events, John ... • 3. Intervention Based On Humanitarian Ideals The notion of intervention based on humanitarian ideals is not a novel concept in the realm of international relations. Even Hitler maintained that his 1938 invasion of Czechoslovakia was conducted to protect the lives of those Czechoslovaks endangered by their government (Bellamy, 2009). However, the doctrine of the Responsibility to Protect(R2P) has attracted significant mention in political discourse and academia since the end of the cold war not least with the surfacing of state sponsored violence during the Arab Spring . This essay, with the help of relevant examples such as Kosovo, Darfur, Libya and Syria will aim to debate the notion that R2P will only be utilised when it is in the interests of major powers. The Peace of Westphalia (1648) which ended the Thirty Years War by instituting a political era made up of sovereign states having absolute jurisdiction over all physical and political matters in the confines of their territory established state sovereignty as a central tenet of international relations (Krasner, 1995 1996). The sovereignty of the State was a sacrosanct principle in the Westphalian system a value enshrined in Chapter 2.7 of the UN Charter, which asserts: Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state (The United Nations, 1945). With an aim to put to bed the debate surrounding the 1999 military intervention ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I would consider investing in Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. This is because based on the ratio analysis the firm is not insolvent since it can meet its debts obligations as they fall due. Also the trend in the financial statements indicate a general increase in the value of assets hence a favorable investment. Also the working capital has increased over the three years. • 8. Antigone By Sophocles Antigone In Sophocles, Antigone begins with the stages of grief as Antigone mourns the loss of her two brothers, Polyneikes and Eteokles, who die simultaneously in face to face combat in Thebes. Eteokles dies with honor fighting for the Thebesians and is honored with rituals and a proper burial. The body of Polyneikes, who attempted to burn the city of Thebes, is left for the dogs and birds to savage. Thesbesian s law forbids anyone giving a traitor, like Polyneikes, a proper burial, for that itself is a crime punishable by death. Antigone is angered that Polyneikes is not going to receive a proper burial and is determined that she must honor him even if it means the end of her life. Antigone alone attempts to bury her brother, but is captured and imprisoned, at which point she decides to form a noose around her neck and end her life. Sophoclesleaves the reader to question whether Antigone s suicide is an act of heroism, a stand for the citizens of Thebes, or a selfish way of coping with personal trauma. Antigone sought assistance in burying her brother from her only family member alive, her sister, Ismene, who tries to reason with her. Ismene proclaims, Remember, we re women. How can we fight men? They re stronger (Sophocles 749). The physical statures of neither Polyneikes nor Antigone were not ever mentioned, but in general men typically weigh more and have a larger build than women. We have to assume that she doesn t want to elicit help from others because the risk of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Sociological Theories For Deviance Fall Under The Concept... According to sociologist Edwin Lemert, the majority of sociological theories for deviance fall under the concept of primary deviance. However, Lemert considered secondary deviance to be more important. Everyone is guilty of primary deviance. However, this does not mean that they perceive themselves to be a bad person. This is perception is where secondary deviance comes in. With secondary deviance, the individual, is labeled by the act of deviance that they committed, whether it is by themselves or by others. Eventually, this label is accepted by the individual, as a part of their identity. While primary deviance consists of an act that takes up a small amount of time in a person s existence, secondary deviance is something that sticks with the individual for the long term. Potentially, this type of deviance can stick with an individual for the rest of their lives. There are two different theories that can compare and contrast how a concept such as secondary deviance can gain a foothold in an individual s life. These two theories are the differential association theoryand the control theory. The differential association theory touts deviance as something that is learned. It is learned through the inter personal relationships and influences that an individual has with those close to them. Furthermore, the theory declares that learning deviance is similar to, if not identical to, learning anything else. With the differential association theory, the individual is taking a ... • 10. Symbolism InThe Lamb, By William Blake The poem The Lamb written by William Blake is a part of his collection of poems called Songs of Innocence. His outlook on life when writing this collection of poems was optimistic and showed his great appreciation for life and especially nature. In this poem, which is pastoral in nature, Blake uses imagery to emphasize the innocence (bordering on naivety) that he sees in the world. This works in tandem with Blake s pleasant diction to create a tone of comfort and well being, which reflects the optimistic point of view that Blake had on life. Additionally the religious symbolism throughout the poem highlights the love that the speaker as well Blake feels towards nature and all living beings. Through the pleasant diction, the imagery of innocence and the religious symbolism, Blake spreads his message and belief that all aspects of life are pure and are deserving of love because they were all created by a benevolent and generous god. Blake consistently chooses words that create a feeling of safety and welcoming. In the opening stanza Blake creates an overall sense of well being and comfort. First, he describes the lamb s setting; Blake illustrates a stream by which the lamb feeds. By doing this right away, Blake subtly incorporates the idea of nature which is characteristic of pastoral poems. Blake views nature as a beautiful work of art which deserves to be appreciated, this is reflected in his choice of the word stream, as opposed to another body of water such as a ... However, with the artificial reef there may be the need to implement another program or to continue the beach nourishment program to support it. Yet, even though there are extremely high initial costs, the artificial reef would increase tourism and support local businesses, which outweighs and justifies the large cost as in the long term it will be economically beneficial. The story begins in Aguascalientes, Mexico on a beautiful ranch owned by Esperanza s father. However, Esperanza and her family are forced to immigrate to America. Throughout the journey, Esperanza reveals several of her personality traits. All of these traits can be represented by symbols. First, a bag of coins can symbolize Esperanza s selfishness and arrogance in the beginning of the story. I chose this because a selfish and conceited person would want more of something and believe he or she is superior to other people. Esperanza s selfishness shines through on page 69 where the author writes, Mona, she said, and reached up to touch the doll. Esperanza quickly jerked it away and put it back in the valise, covering it with the old clothes. Also, her arrogance is shown on page 67 when Esperanza is boarding a train filled with peasants and she says, We can t travel in this car. It s not clean and the people don t look trustworthy. Thus, due to her family s history of getting colorectal cancer, Ms. Wilson should have already been more wary of colorectal cancer. Although her race is not mentioned, the following races have highest occurring colon cancerrates from highest to lowest: Black, White, Asian/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan natives, and then Hispanic. With the specificity of sex, women are less likely than men to contract colorectal cancer, but do so at roughly the same incidence. In addition, being 61 years old gave her a 0.92% chance of developing colorectal cancer after 10 years, 2.37% after 20 years, and 3.76 after 30 years [5]. In regards to environmental factors, colon cancer shares many similarities with other forms of cancer. For example, some environmental factors for colorectal cancer are diet, tobacco, and lack of exercise. In addition, there are several polyposis disorders, colorectal cancers that are passed on via errors or mutations within the genetic code, that can also contribute to the development of colorectal cancer. The Colosseum is the largest stone built amphitheater ever built in the world measuring 190 by 155 meters and was commissioned in the 1st century AD by the emperors of the Flavian Dynasty as a gift to the citizens of Rome. The Colosseum, however, were used in ancient times for spectacles and other games, such as gladiatorial combats and animal slaughtering. Military Defense And Education Security is most highest priority in every country but To nurture a secure nation, federal spending must be balanced among military defense and programs that provide economic security, such as education and health care . A worthy portion of any country s budget is spent on defence . To some extent it is not a good idea for us to spend money on defending ourselves from imaginary enemies. We spend significant sums of money preparing for wars that we later create and ignore the needs of our own country. But it turns out that military spending is actually a singularly good proxy for measuring just how big the multiplier for government spending is. Countries that have a military or army enjoy an array of benefits, ranging from job employment to the military, as well as a form of protection in the event of military conflict. Some countries need a strong military more than others, depending on their strength amongst other countries. The army also provides different job opportunities to locals who leave near military bases. Thousands of folks work in different departments in the military building planes, ammunition, guns, tanks, and other supplies need during combat. In simple terms, some people rely on the military for work so that they can provide for their families. A military that is trained and funded by the government can provide defense for a nation in the event of military or political conflict. In other words, just having an army can make other countries reconsider invading your country as they can assess whether they stand a chance to win or lose their platoons and expend a lot of resources and reputation. • 20. Unmanned Vs. Automated Drones Essay The purpose of this research paper is to explore unmanned or automated drones for the use of package delivery and the impact upon the consumer. Both businesses and consumers have had a significant interest in using machines to do what many consider the manual task of moving items from the seller to the consumer. Banking, telecommunications, and grocery shopping were once thought to require personal interaction to perform transactions. Through innovation, each of these industries has transformed through some form of automation. The shipping industry may be on the precipice of such an evolution. I work in the transportation industry, and there has been significant interest in the use of unmanned vehicles to deliver parcels. I will explore drone technology and the impact to consumers and the logistic industry as drones are used in operations. The reasons vary, but overwhelming demand is originating from retailers that have relied on third party companies to connect products to the buyer. I will also discuss how there will be a continued need for people in the logistics industry. The future of small parcel delivery will eventually include the use of drones rather than relying exclusively on methods dependent on people to deliver items. • 21. Analysis Of October Skies And Queen Of Katwe Throughout history, people have risen who have influenced modern day society. Their inventions or strong characters have marked them as important historical figures. Many are still remembered today, due to the inspiration they have passed on, and many of these have also had movies published telling their story. Movies such as October Skies and Queen of Katwe tell stories of two separate beings, who have had a great impact in modern days. Although Homer Hickamand Phiona Mutesi struggle to find their paths to success due to their circumstances and background, Phiona Mutesi story possesses a more accessible storyline because of its emphasis on international figures rather than national. The movies October Skies and Queen of Katwe both hold two separate main characters, each which is struggling in life in their own way and just wants to change their life. For Homer Hickam, in October Skies, his dream is to do something with his life that does not include mining for coal. His desire in life is to get away from his hometown by building a rocket and hopefully getting a scholarship into college. On the other hand, there is Phiona Mutesi, in Queen of Katwe, whose desire is to escape her life of poverty and have her family live a better life. The way she goes about it is by entering a chess competition, which if she wins she will get a reward that will help her build a better life. Both Homer and Phiona have the same dream, to escape. Abstract: Feed forward control is a reliable for rejecting fast and dynamic voltage disturbances in the phase grid. Mainly in this scheme implemented in phase voltages of the Wyes connected configuration. Under this unbalanced and distorted grid conditions, the online conversion of line to line values into the phase value is unworkable. In order to an exploit full advantages of feed forward controller is a most appropriate modulator is needed. In this article the feed forward of grid line to line voltages is used in phase voltages. The introduced feed forward method is implemented in Implicit Zero Sequence Discontinuous Pulse Width Modulation (IZDPWM) technique that is compatible for grid connected inverters. Regarding in the IZDPWM grid topologies distorted the harmonics of the grid voltages. Hence, a sinusoidal current is injected to the grid. • 24. Golden Age Of Athens Athens had what is known as its Golden Age between 480 and 430 BCE, and while it was a relatively short period of time, it laid the foundations of western civilization. As the Golden Age dawned, the autonomous poleis (city states) that had formed in the preceding two to three centuries had set aside their differences and united to face the threat of invasion posed by the Persian Empire. Though vastly outnumbered, the Greeks had finally defeated the Persian armies in 480 BCE. In the years of peace that followed, the Greeks made significant advances in art, literature, science and philosophy, as pride and patriotism drove them to greater heights of creativity and in Athens, an experiment with a new kind of government flourished under the statesman Pericles. Prior to about 600 BCE, Athens had been an oligarchy, with an aristocratic minority controlling its government. But enlightened Athenian leaders began instituting reforms to the city s government between 600 and 500 BCE. Solon (c. 638 558 BCE) introduced a new code of laws that was less harsh than Athens existing legal code (laid out by an Athenian statesman called Draco, hence the term draconian to describe repressive laws) , and also set up a Popular Assembly of Citizens, although a council of aristocrats still made the laws. Cleisthenes (c. 570 508 BCE) known as the Father of Democracy expanded democracy still further, creating a Council of 500, which consisted of 50 representatives from each Greek tribe. He ... Furthermore, the assassins attempt to mislead the detectives when they purposely leave belongings of the murderer in Ratchett s room to make it seem as though they are trying to incriminate that person. Colonel Arbuthnot is the only person on the train who admits to smoking using a pipe, so the pipe cleaner found in Ratchett s room makes it seem as though someone is trying to frame him. This makes the detectives feel as though Colonel is innocent, which is another example of the processed thinking the murderers do. Finally, Ratchett is stabbed twelve time, which is both a metaphor, and part of the revenge. The group feels as though proper justice is not served in the Armstrong, so they stab Ratchett twelve time symbolizing twelve jury members, as well as a stab for each other as revenge. Poirot realizes the connection when he says, And then, Messieurs, I saw light. They were all in it. . . . • 29. Persuasive Essay On Air Traffic Control The odds are that at some point in time, most people in America will travel by air. What most of these people do not realize is that a simple flight is in reality a well oiled, complex machine unlike any other air navigation service provider in the world. After the Wright brothers took their first successful flight, America embraced air travel. The Federal Aviation Agency (now Administration) officially began operations in May of 1958, and later developed a sophisticated air traffic control system that is responsible for the largest volume of air traffic in the world ( A Brief History of the FAA ). Today, however, many politicians believe that government involvement in air traffic control is inhibiting the overall performance of air traffic control. Several bills have been proposed to Congress since the 1970s in attempt to separate air traffic control (referenced as ATC) from the FAA by privatization, corporatization, or other means (Elias 2). The most recent of these bills has caused serious debate in the aviation world over economic policies, safety regulations, and overall effectiveness of the current ATC system. The Aviation Innovation, Reform, and Reauthorization Act (21st Century AIRR Act) as proposed by Representative Bill Shuster should not be passed by Congress because it would privatize air traffic control by removing it from the Federal Aviation Administration. Devon River was clean, and represented innocence, which can be seen in how it reminds Gene of Finny, who is innocent. This is where Gene s first baptism takes place. Which, was purifying. However, the Naguamsett was described as saline, ugly, and fringed with mud, seaweed, and marsh. This where Gene s second baptismtakes place. This is the opposite of Devon River, it is full if impurities, and represents loss of innocence. So, when Gene fell into the Nagumsett River he is baptized in it by because he becomes fully submerged in the river. This baptism was in impure, murky water, so it is like a reverse baptism, which shows loss of innocence, and Gene becoming impure, and less innocent. Also, Gene s baptisms occurred at different times, showing the differences between both baptisms. The first one occurred during the summer when Devon resembled the garden of Eden. But, the second one occurred during the winter, further stressing that this is a reverse baptism, and represents loss of innocence. In A Separate Peace baptism is one of the many biblical archetypes. • 35. The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer Analysis The Similarities of The Wife s Lament and The Seafarer Life away from home can be hard, but imagine what it would be like if it was to a harsh sea or under a giant tree. In the two poems we will be dissecting, you will see how these two different situations have a lot in common. In one of the oldest poems known in the world, The Seafarer was written long by an unknown author. Throughout the poem we see how the man takes his exile emotionally and physically, all the while he sails the sea and world. He goes to other countries and shows how on his missions he sees amazing things, but he expresses how sad he is. In the second poem, The Wife s Lament, a woman is exiled to a cave by her husband, and she goes through all her thoughts and emotions, and she decides to get out her anger and heartbreak for her husband, she curses him while is out at sea. While we go through both of these poems, we will find differences between exiles. In The Seafarer, it isn t known whether the man was exiled, or if he willingly left his home. Throughout the poem you can see the way that the man holds himself together, and how he feels about the people on the land. This the man does not know for whom on land it turns out most favourably, how i, wretched and sorrowful, on the ice cold sea... In this line, we can see that the man is very angry about having to be out at sea. While he is out at sea, he talks about his family back at home that later help us connect The SeaFarer to The Wife s Lament. You can see how the mans actions and words were very Pagen at the beginning of the poem, but slowly transform into Christian values and words change by the end of the poem. This leads many people to believe that the original poem have been translated by high church member, because they were the only ones back then that were educated enough to read and write. If it were translated by a high ranking church member, it is possible that some of it might have been changed. As you move onto the second poem, The Wife s Lament, we look at an exile, through a different person s eyes. Over many centuries peptic ulcer has been a major cause of death, at any particular time about 4 million people are effected with peptic ulcer, and the at least 6000 people die from this disease each year. Peptic ulcer results from erosion within the walls three particular areas of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT); the oesophagus, the stomach or the duodenum. This lead to further understanding of the causes of peptic ulcers, and that the regular use of NSAIDs medications such as aspirin to treat other illnesses induces ulcers (figure 2). Aspirin inhibits the enzyme COX 1 which normally converts arachidonic acids to prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are responsible for the positive feedback on non parietal cells to produce mucus and bicarbonate protective layers and they show negative feedback on parietal cells, inhibiting acid secretion. Thus inhibition of the COX 1 inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins hence decreased mucus and bicarbonate production and increased acid production (figure 1). Cimetidine treatment for NSAIDs/aspirin induced acid production was discovered upon investigating histamine receptors located on the parietal cells. Histamine receptor activation, triggers acid secretion, consequently, antagonising the histamine receptor decreases the gastric acid production; thus aiming to treat peptic ulcers. This discovery was initiated by James Whyte Black and William Duncan in 1964; with other scientist s contributions, cimetidine was discovered at Smith Kline and French Laboratories (now known as: GlaxoSmithKline) facilities in Philadelphia. Without films like Saving Private Ryan, society would not be able to experience the emotions of, in this case, war, but the emotions of other people in general. Those who watched Milk for the first time were suddenly smacked in the face by the reality of what it was like to stand up for their rights. The audiences of Red Tails saw what it was like to get treated like you were less than someone else, and how people needed to prove their worth to others. This is a serious problem that will lead to security, environmental, economic, and political issues if not addressed fully and swiftly. America needs to act promptly to revive the nation s infrastructure system before additional nations surpass the US while the cost becomes too big to bear. The Interstate System that was created under the Federal Highway Act of 1956 cost 128.9 billion dollars and currently spans 46,876 miles long (Federal Highway Administration). This system links the North to the South and the East Coast to the West Coast. Today, America does not spend nearly the amount of time nor attention to the betterment of the nation s infrastructure. For the last four year, the American Society of Civil Engineers, or ASCE for short, has ranked America s system in the D range (NPR 2013). President of the society, Gregory DiLoreto, stated that: We waste hours sitting in traffic; power outages become more frequent; we lose billions of gallons of water through leaky ... Another part of the revolving door theory is that many officials have lucrative opportunities waiting for them in the companies they dealt with while they were still in their professional lives. They do this for the main reason that they and their families will be able to stay in the power elite and maintain the benefits that come with the prestigious level (www.michaelmoore.com). Examined in the film was the event when Bush was to appoint his foreign policy team. All the advisors he selected were viewed as major contributors in the political picture. It was observed that all but one of these advisors were members of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), the New York based organization that is a well renowned exponent of America s Insider establishment. This was a common method used in an attempt to make the United States a one world government ruled by the elite class. The CFR has made close to every decision in the past regarding foreign policy, no matter what the political party of the current president. • 43. Infrastructure Of Infrastructure And Infrastructure Infrastructure We are constantly surrounded by infrastructure assets. Infrastructure consists of all the assets that countries require to enable its daily operations and orderly functions. Transportation, energy, communications and water, are some of the infrastructure assets that serve as the backbone to our society. While traveling this summer with my family, I realized just how far behind the U.S. is compared to other parts of the world when it is considered one of the most advanced countries in the world. I thought to myself... Why hasn t the U.S. invested in such projects? China spends 7% of its GDP on infrastructure and India spends 5%. The U.S. spends just over 3%. As a result, U.S. infrastructure now ranks 14th globally according to the World Economic Forum s infrastructure index. In the current economic environment where interest rates are low and unemployment remains elevated, a logical solution to stimulate growth would be to build, modernize, or replace our infrastructure. Every 4 years, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) releases a Report Card for America s Infrastructure that represents the condition and performance of the nation s infrastructure. In 2013, the United States infrastructure grade was a D+. Although we recognize the report is a little self serving, the statistics behind their research is compelling. His strength was enough but not enough to pull the fish up on his own so he had to wait until it would come up for him. It was noon when i hooked him, he said. And I have never seen him. We are participating in the film during this war sequence with the camera often on a track following behind the soldiers or with a Steadicam but the reality is a handheld shot like we are running in the woods like a solider or we are following the action. Other camera angles include single POV frames of soldiers and what they are experiencing at that moment. Especially when the battle begins the American soldiers have a heightened sense of sounds such as bullets whizzing by their heads in the fog. These moments in the battle give a sense of fantasy disembodiment and derangement for the soldiers during the chaos of the battle. When the shots are firing there is a sense of chaos to the audience with the jump cut shots that attempt to fill in the viewer of all the madness. Under the Triangle Shirtwaist Company owners, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, the women laboring to sew waist skirts were dissatisfied with their terrible working conditions and low wages. While working, the women, made up of mostly poor Italian and Jewish immigrants, would constantly be yelled at and called sexist slurs by bosses and forced to work long, tiring hours for little pay. Tired of these conditions, the workers of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company in New York met in secret to form a union against the company in September 1909. The women acquired the backing of both the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the Women s Trade Union League which inspired many other women, both working and upper class, to join their fight. Thousands of garment workers launched an eleven week strike on November 22, 1909, which became known as the Uprising of Twenty Thousand. Although the Uprising of Twenty Thousand was successful as they achieved the goals the women set, such as increased wages and shorter hours, it ultimately failed because their platform did not address the working conditions which would lead the the Triangle Fire. The motivation of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company workers stemmed from little wages, long work days, and disrespect.
