4. U.s. Bush And The United States
Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the
foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve
(George W. Bush). Bush was referring to Tuesday September 11, 2001. This day is what woke up the
sleeping giant that was America and forced America to form into a great country again. Events in the
2000 s such as the signing of Bush Doctrine, creation of homeland security, Google, the successful
mapping of genome, Obama becoming the first non white president, Wikipedia was launched, all
helped improve our country. Between politics, american values, foreign affairs/conflicts, popular
culture, the economy, and technology/ innovation all make this century worth studying.
Politics is something that has been around since the start of times and usually is the talk of the town.
During the 2000 s there were three presidential elections the first one took place in 2000. The
Republican candidate was George W. Bush and the Democratic candidate was Al Gore. This race was
extremely close. The final state, Florida, which was the deciding factor, was so close there was a
recount. This became so big it went to the supreme court, Bush vs. Gore. But in the end George W.
Bush won with only 5 more electoral votes than Al Gore. This marked the fourth election in U.S.
history in which the eventual winner failed to win at least a plurality of the popular vote (after the
elections of 1824, 1876, and

5. Nervous Conditions Analysis
Nervous Conditions is a novel by Zimbabwean author Tsitsi Dangarembga, first published in the
United Kingdom in 1988. The semi autobiographical novel focuses on the story of a Rhodesian family
in post colonial Rhodesia during the 1960s. It attempts to illustrate the dynamic themes of race, class,
gender, and cultural change during the post colonial conditions of present day Zimbabwe. The title is
taken from the introduction by Jean Paul Sartre to Frantz Fanon s The Wretched of the Earth.
Plot summary

Another cultural significance which was represented in the book were the gender relations. This is also
evident in the beginning of the book when Tambu claims to be a better student than her brother ever
was, but that he was chosen to get the better English schooling simply because he was a man and she
was a girl. This is representative of the country and obviously most of the world at this time since
women movements in Africa were not prominent at the time. The Africans had to worry about their
general independence first instead of the rights of women, which is the main reason why there weren t
as many women movements towards rights until after independence. This makes sense since it would
be unethical to have African men and women treated equally while still under the negative influence
of the English. This explains why women movements in Zimbabwe were formed in the years after
independence and still are in effect to this day.
Characters
Tambu: Jeremiah and Mainini s daughter. Tambu is the novel s main character and narrator of the
story. Her desire for an education and to improve herself seem strong enough to overcome just about
anything. She is very hard on herself, and always strives to do her best and make the correct decisions.
Unlike many other characters in the book, she respects the societal roles in place regardless of her
desire not to be held back by her gender. Despite the drastic changes in her life, Tambu

The brief educational intervention for this study was conducted among Meharry medical students
during their Family and Community Medicine clerkship between May 2014 and December 2015. An
existing ninety minute didactic education session for Preventive Medicine topics was enhanced
through the addition of nutrition content related to chronic disease prevention and treatment. The
curriculum was designed by Meharry faculty based on a thorough literature review, including
guidelines and recommendations from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health,
American Diabetes Association, and USPSTF.21 The content was tailored toward identification of risk
factors, screening, and dietary recommendations for coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus type 2,
and hyperlipidemia. The expected impact was improvement of nutrition knowledge and increased
comfort and intention to use such knowledge in future practice. The presentation was delivered by
Meharry Preventive Medicine faculty and Preventive Medicine resident physicians. Each training
session consisted of a pre test, an interactive didactic session, and a post test. The students were
provided with a written disclaimer about the study which emphasized that their participation was
voluntary. Scoring of the pre and post test was neither shared with the clerkship director nor did it
impact the students grades. The intervention was approved by the Meharry Medical College IRB. The

7. Essay about Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
There are general rules and concepts that preside over the field of accounting. These general rules,
known as basic accounting principles and guidelines, shape the groundwork on which more thorough,
complex, and legalistic accounting rules are based. The Financial Accounting Standards Board
(FASB) uses the basic accounting principles and guidelines as a foundation for their own
comprehensive and complete set of accounting rules and standards. GAAP is exceptionally useful
because it attempts to regulate and normalize accounting definitions, assumptions, and methods.
Because of generally accepted accounting principles one is able to presuppose that there is uniformity

One explanation of why firms might choose to put into practice conservative accounting practices lies
in efficient contracting theory, for example, conservative accounting can be used as part of a firms
strategy to ease the conflicts that arise among the many claimants of a firm s net assets. This is
because conservative accounting methods place restrictions on the distribution of those net assets
thereby limiting the scope for self serving opportunistic behavior. Conservative accounting can also
help in bringing into line the interests of managers and shareholders through its impact on accounting
earnings measures that are regularly used in management compensation contracts (Iyengar Zampelli,
2010). The literature on conservatism accounting is very limited. Watts (2003), has suggested that
conservatism is related to debt contracts, while Gjesdal Antle (2001) suggest that conservatism is the
interaction between income measurement and dividend covenants. Even though conservatism may be
most favorable, the result derives from shareholders trading off cash flows in different periods, not
from the need to protect the interests of creditors. Another theory used in accounting is that of
Materiality. This notion necessitates that accounting centers on material facts and not on facts that are
immaterial to figuring revenues. Only transactions that have monetary

9. Individuality In The Film Edward Scissor Hands
The film, Edward Scissor Hands, by Tim burton is a modern day fairy tale, which is an entertaining
film. However, the film is a much deeper and far richer film which includes many very important
themes and messages for the audience. Individuality is extremely important when it comes to the
character Edward. Edward and Kim show how much love is valued in their neighbourhood. Individual
growth plays a part of all characters in the film and how much people can change in a small amount of
time.
Individuality is a really important theme in the film Edward Scissor Hands, and is conveyed strongly
throughout the character of Edward. Unlike most of the characters who live in the same type of
perfect, conventional housing and who all basically follow the same daily routines, such as, gossiping
on the phone. However, Edward is different; he is special and unique. For example, the housing in the
community are all one solid colour and all have the same shape, the characters are all dressed
similarly, and all act the same. When Edward was introduced into the community he was looked upon
as different, but Kim s family knew he was just an individual, who does not belong to the community.
Edwards complexion is very unfamiliar with the community with his pale skin, rough hair, leather
clothing and the scars on his face. Peg tries to cover Edwards scars on his face with makeup, so he can

Letter Essay, Great Expectations By Leona Markose One of the books I have recently read is Great
Expectations by Charles Dickens. It introduces the reader a rather unique approach into the subject of
social class. Throughout the book, Pip, the main character is faced with many challenges that shape

graveyard to pray across the graves of his late family, Pip meets an escaped convict. His eyes wide in

12. Freyr Research Paper
The sun has been depicted as a god or an object pulled by a god throughout many mythologies. Most
people may think of Helios, Apollo, or Ra when the term sun god comes up, but in Norse mythology,
there is yet another god of the sun. Frey, who is also known as Freyr, is a god who is considered to be
a god of the sun, among many other things. It can be said that Frey is to the Norsemen what Apollo
was to the Greeks. He was one of the many deities that made up Norse mythology, and also one of the
most interesting.
Frey was the Norse god of the sun, rain, agriculture, fertility, and health, and an important god in the
Norse culture. He was part of the group of gods called the Vanir, a peace loving tribe, and he s also an
honorary member of the other tribe of Norse gods, the Aesir (McCoy). ... Show more content on

fertility and agriculture, farmers worshipped him and traveled with an image of Frey in their wagons.
They believed this practice made their crops thrive. Many ancient Scandinavian families claimed to be
descended from Frey because they thought his presence guaranteed a plentiful harvest and peace
(Lindahl). As with most gods in other mythologies, there was a complex family system. Frey had a
twin sister, Freya, with whom he also had a child with. His father was Njord, a sea god, and while it is

13. Recycling Essay
Recycling
During the early 1970s, as communities across the United States saw their landfills filling up, attention
turned to alternative methods of garbage disposal, such as incineration and recycling. While
incineration proved to be a thorny issue due to its toxic ash byproduct, recycling was embraced by
Americans as an effective way to offset rising garbage production rates.
Today, demand for recycled products is beginning to match supply, and the percentage of waste going
into landfills and incinerators is decreasing steadily. In 1970, when Americans produced 121 million
tons of municipal solid waste (MSW), three quarters went directly into landfills, one fifth was

Many if not most of the products we use on a daily basis are made of recyclable materials, including
glass, aluminum, paper, steel, plastic, scrap tires and used oil. And the demand for goods made from
recycled products, despite a lot of ups and downs during the 1980s, has never been higher thanks to a
combination of well conceived industrial/commercial applications and much needed government
purchasing mandates. Indeed, the existence of markets for recyclables has contributed significantly to
recycling s success as a waste disposal alternative.
What makes recycling especially unique is its implementation by local people for local people. In
regards to MSW management, the federal government is relatively hands off, and state governments
have focused more of their attention on landfill and incineration options. As a result, local
communities have come together to initiate recycling efforts; the percolation of their enthusiasm has
led to the widespread acceptance and even encouragement of recycling at both the state and federal
levels.
With recovered materials demanding higher market prices and curbside collection and commercial
recovery on the rise, it is not unrealistic for Americans to expect to see nationwide recycling rates of
thirty five to fifty percent by the turn of

14. Will The Yeast Fermentation Of Yeast Fermentation Of Glucose
Will the rate of yeast fermentation of glucose increase as pH levels increase? To test this, 4 trials of
two pH level solutions were prepared in order to obtain an average amount of CO2 produced. Twelve
mL of yeast, 12 mL of glucose, and 4 mL of either a pH 2 solution or pH 10 solution were prepared in
eight beakers, 4 per pH, and then poured into a flask, where the rate of fermentation was then
measured in millimeters every 2 minutes for a total of 20 minutes. It was hypothesized that the rate of
yeast fermentation of glucose would increase as pH increased. Our data results from the 8 flasks
showed no statistical significance between yeast fermentation of glucose in a pH of 2 or pH of 10
solution. Using the final CO2 production level measured after 20 minutes, a t Test assuming equal
variances was performed which supported our observations of no significant difference in the rate of
yeast fermentation, which led us to accept our null hypothesis stating that a change in pH would have
no effect on the rate of yeast fermentation of glucose.

15. Effort-Reward Immbalance Model
Over the past three decades, this reality has been acknowledged universally that the experience of
work related stress has undesirable consequences for the health and safety of both individuals and
their organizations. This reality has been reflected both in public and media interest and in increasing
concern voiced by the trades unions, and professional and scientific bodies.
Workplace pressure is the part and parcel of all work and is unavoidable due to the demands of the
contemporary competitive work environment. These pressures can be positive and negative. Pressure
perceived as acceptable by workers, may even keep them alert, motivated, able to work and learn,
depending on the available resources and personal characteristics. However, when that pressure
becomes excessive and unmanageable it leads to stress.
Stress:
The wider the term stress is used, the more elusive becomes its meaning. Modern definitions of stress

According to the Effort Reward Imbalance Model, work related benefits depend upon a balanced
relationship between efforts and rewards at work. Efforts refer to job demands or obligations imposed
on employees such as time pressure and working overtime and rewards consist of money, esteem, and
job security/career opportunities provided by the employer. Work characterized by both high efforts
and low rewards represents a reciprocity deficit. This model postulates that an imbalance (non
reciprocal) relationship between the effort spent and rewards received can result in the emotional
distress associated with a stress response, and an increased risk of ill health. (Siegrist

Without cognitive flexibility we cannot change our minds, shift attention or perspective, flexibly

18. The Aeneid Character Analysis
Throughout the Aeneid, Aeneas has shown extreme examples of leadership and guidance to his peers.
He has led them through intensely hard times and directed them on what to do during times of
confusion. He shows bravery and fearlessness when leading his group of followers into dangerous
situations, changing the outcome of the story. Throughout all the books, especially Book I and Book
IV, Aeneas affected his peers and the story with his immense amounts of leadership and following.
Aeneas journey to the underworld in book IV shows the theme of leadership and how it is portrayed to
a great extent throughout the whole book. In the lines 384 425, and they talk about Aeneas experiences

see Cerberus as an insanely scary creature and most people do not have the strength to even come near

If prayer was God s Idea, then it would stand to reason that He would make it simple enough for us to
understand. Even though it is simple, the reasons why so many people never walk in it are vast. This is
not something that I got out of a book, or made up. It s something God showed me through the Holy
Spirit, so please read with an open mind and meditate on what you read.
Step #1 The Power Within:
God is able to do exceeding, abundantly, above all that we ask or think, according to the power that
works in us. Most people think that God can do whatever He wants to do, but according to this verse,
it all depends upon a power that is at work in us. To understand that power we need to look at a couple
of verses before this one. Paul prayed the following:
That He (God) would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might,
through His Spirit, in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being

one of those aspects. The main reason why they differ so much is that the purpose of the factories
producing the beer is different. For craft breweries it is important to have a really good in their beers
because their customers are willing to pay more for a higher quality. They use normally better and
more expensive ingredients and pay a lot of attention to the production process. The mass produced
beers are not even known for a good quality, sure there are some more expensive ones like Corona but
most of them are not. The reason why firms don t keep the quality high is that they want it to be cheap
and everyone should be able to purchase it because the main purpose of mass produced beer is to get
the consumer drunk. That s the actual part of enjoyment you get from drinking a beer.

22. Physiological Responses to the Human Body from Exercising...
The objective of the paper is to present the physiological responses to the human body from exercising
in the heat. It will also include acute and chronic adaptations that the body will adjust to, as well as
practices that would be best fit for athletes and coaches. Exercising in the heat plays a major role in
the field of many athletic sports to date; this includes running sports, such as Track and Field,
Football, and even marathoners long distance road racers. The main stimulus that produces an increase
in core temperature is exercise, and when it is combined with a hot environment, it adds additional
strains to the body. Exercising in the heat has positive effects as well as negative effects that could
lead to health risk if procedures are not properly followed. If an athlete or an untrained personnel does
not take precaution while in heat the risk of health could increase. When exercising in the heat initially
begins, a person may experience changes in the body such as, but not limited, to an increase in his or
her heart rate, an increase in his or her sweat rate, increase in body temperature, and dehydration.
These factors are increasing because during exercise especially in the heat the body has to rid itself of
the excessive heat being produced by the working muscles as well as from the environment. Once
sweat is produced it will cool the body and will evaporate (if in a non humid environment). Sweating
is a very important factor in releasing heat, without

The Bantu migration is the dispersal of the Bantu people from the region of Cameroon and the Congo
area. The word Bantu does not refer to the people of the African expansion, but rather the African
languages belonging to the people in the Niger Congo. Cultural influences that occurred, due to the
migration of the Bantu people, laid out the foundation for other Sub Saharan societies. Historians have
used the collective information found by archeologists and other historians in order to draw
conclusions about the Bantu Migration. Linguistics, agriculture, and different types of art have been
the evidence needed to identify the culture and the specific patterns of movement, during this period.
Bantu speaking farmers are known to have spread through the Congo forests by the first millennium.
The rapid spread of the Bantu people became evident in the fifth century; the iron working and crop
cultivation of pumpkins, melons, and beans had become wide spread in central, eastern, and southern
Africa. Although crop cultivation is an efficient way to track movement patterns, this paper will focus
on the linguistics, genetics, and various art forms used to track the dispersal. Oral communication used
by the Bantu people was one of the only ways to relay information. Verbal communication and the
study of linguistics, in the instance of the Bantu Migration can be obscured because over familial

has a dramatic impact on your life. Sports are about having fun and playing the game you love just
simply because you love it is something maybe an average Little League coach would say to his kids
and in many ways that is completely correct, but there is a lot more to sports then what we have been
taught to believe growing up. What they didn t tell us is that sports is very much a business as much as

The Victorian Era was the Golden Age for children s literature, as adults expressed childhood
innocence and purity in texts by starting again with a childlike perspective in order to engage with the
audience. Many authors sought to create books for children to further emphasis the ideals of childhood
innocence, goodness and the vision of restoring the moral wellbeing of adults and society, such as
Lewis Carroll and Robert Louis Stevenson who wrote mainly for children, tales of adventures and
child like interests. Modern day authors have also continued furthering this trend of childhood
innocence and goodness through symbolic motifs, which occurs through a character who is naĂŻve or
childlike initially but develops into a mature adult such a Lucy Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia
by Lewis Carroll. Lucy is an innocent girl who has an enormous curiosity which leads to her own
development as a person through her uncorrupted eyes. Professor Reynolds expresses the depth of the
need for a childhood as even expressing a longing themselves to be children once more emphasising

childhood freedom that adults have dismissed in order to make a living in society. As Carroll put it in

38. The Technology Of The Digital Generation Better Than The Meme
Introduction:
Perhaps no digital phenomenon can encapsulate the culture of the digital generation better than the
meme. The proliferation of social media outlets has made it possible for humourous, insightful, or

Dog and Rage Comics circulate through networks, from person to person, to amuse.
The idea of the meme has been around long before the conception of the internet, originating from a
text on evolutionary biology; unfortunately, the copious use of the word meme on the internet has led
to both the misuse of the term as well as a reluctance to utilise the word in academic discourse by
some authors.
This website is intended to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study of memetics was created to explore how ideas are transferred from one mind to another and
the analysis of memes has become a large part of modern anthropomorphology.
Ideologies Are Fundamentally Memetic:
The values people hold are not defined by nature, but by exposure to and judgement of the world. It is
because of this that the values of others act as influences on the ones which we hold personally and
ideologies are born when people share the same worldview. These ideologies can spread virally or not,
but are always transferred memetically, as they change and evolve as they get passed around to,
judged by, and evaluated by, different people. It is because of this that we can see that ideologies are
fundamentally memetic constructs and this is but one example of sophisticated use of the idea of the
meme which validates its assimilation into the dictionary of academic prose.

40. Ethical Behavior Can Be Defined As Business Principals Essay
Synopsis
Ethical behavior can be defined as business principals that involve demonstrating respect for moral
values including honesty, fairness, equality, diversity and individual rights. (WebFinance ) Unethical
behavior mirrors the opposite of ethical behavior; they often lack moral values between right and
wrong. Some examples of unethical business behaviors are falsifying reports, stealing, poor working
environments, illegal trading and employee discrimination. With the growing number of Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) complaints, this analysis will focus on pregnancy
discrimination. In 2007, Peggy Young filed a lawsuit against United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS)
alleging her unfair treatment due to her pregnancy is in violation of the Pregnancy Discrimination Act
1978 (PDA), Young states that UPS refusing to accommodate her lifting restrictions is unlawful and is
in violation of her obligated accommodations. The Pregnancy Discrimination Act was ratified in 1978
making discrimination based on pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions (Young v. United
Parcel Service , 2014, p. 2) a form of discrimination against sex, a violation of Title VII Civil Rights
Act. (Silverman, 2014) PDA also states employers must treat women affected by pregnancy the same
for all employment related purposes as other persons not so affected but similar in their ability or
inability to work (Young v. United Parcel Service , 2014, p. 2) . United Parcel Service,

41. Nonverbal Communication In Verbally
Although there were times that I considered myself helping to deescalate the situation between Brenda
and I, I was very much a part of the problem by being pass aggressive. Wood (2016) states that
passive aggression is acting aggressively while denying feelings or acting aggressive. Verbally I could
have tried having dialogue with Brenda to understand her perspective of what she was thinking to
understand how she was feeling. I should have voiced how I felt, instead of trying to avoid the
conflict, due to fear of what I might have inappropriately said. Wood states (2016), competent
interpersonal communicators are sensitive to others and their preferences and choose their words
accordingly.
Furthermore, I communicated with Brenda through my actions. Though I did not say anything I still
communicated with her. Nonverbal communication focuses on the messages people send to one
another that do not contain words, such as messages sent through body motions; eye contact, touch,
and vocal qualities; and the use of time, space, artifacts, dress, and even smell, according to Neuliep
(2015).
As I stated earlier in this paper I am sure I unconsciously made unpleasant faces, frowned, and had
aggressive body language towards Brenda. This probably gave Brenda a perception of me being angry
or upset. While Brenda ignored me, walked pass me with her head turned in the other direction, never
acknowledged me with a smile, and look at me with a frown, my perception of Brenda was that she is
an unhappy negative person. Wood (2016) states that with our faces, we can indicate disapproval
(scowls), doubt (raised eyebrows), admiration (warm gazes), and resistance (stares). The way Brenda
and I reacted towards each other verbally was mirrored in our nonverbal communication. When
Brenda would say things to me I didn t like, such as I do not have time to talk to you about the
meeting . I would give out a huge sigh of annoyance. Maybe if we took the time to listen to each other

paintings, but some . . . are more. Those are The Watchers, and The Watchers are everywhere.
The Watchers were the first to cross over from the north; they crossed so long ago that by the time
Dragons came, The Watchers were a legend even to them. But the truth is this: they re out there and
they ll never die out.
The Watchers aren t the paintings. If that were the case, they would ve died out, vanished, or been
forgotten long ago. The paintings aren t The Watchers, just like your shadow isn t yourself. But just
like you re never far from your shadow, The Watchers are never far from their paintings. What is a
creature that can sit in silence for eternity and do nothing but observe and collect information?
Why do they collect information? Everything in this world has a purpose. What is the use of a creature
that only watches? The truth is, no one knows. Some say that they report back to the Storytellers, who
shape the history of mankind. Others say they report to The Weavers; who can bend the very fabric of

The painting s pull is so great that no one can be brought to notice anything else. Even the people
working at the museum are aware of nothing other than the painting when in its presence. It makes for
the perfect cover for the owners who, never watched, can stand in the far corner, facing the wall: a boy

Once all the lug nuts are screwed on tight much sure that none of them are lose, so that they don t

popped tire in the trunk, and drive off. Of course, at home, nobody thinks to double check that the
spare tire was inflated, that the jack and tire iron were in the trunk and one knows where to position
the jack underneath the car, and the flashlight actually works. It being the coldest they of the year,

take are making sure my cell phone is charged, check that I have Triple A s number in my phone, and
that I pull off the road as far as I can and call for
