Politics And Religion By Gerard Hauser
Politics and religion have long been entangled in the United States. The United States has struggled
with the question of how to maintain an appropriate combination of religion and politics in the public
sphere for a long time. Gerard Hauser argues that public spheres are discursive spaces where society
deliberates about normative standards and even develops new frameworks for expressing and
evaluating social reality . Religion is part of the public sphere and has an influence in American
political life in affairs such as leadership, legislation and voter partisanship. Religious rhetoric plays
an important role in defining the boundaries of the political community and in setting the tone for
political discourse. American democracy owes its birth to the influence of a specific form of
Christianity: English Puritanism. The Pilgrims, laid the essential groundwork for America s
experiment in self government. Religion was in fact the primary reason for the northern settler s
immigration to the New World. These settlers known as Pilgrims because their journey had a religious
purpose . They sought to build Puritan communities, to live in America in their manner and pray to
God in freedom . The Pilgrims came to establish religious communities, but their beliefs called for
such communities to be instituted and administered by the consent of the governed. (Holloway,
Carson) As time went by, they began to constitute and frame laws, ordinances, acts and constitutions.

Comparison Of Crime And Victimless Crimes
A broad range of crimes are committed in the United States, though the most publicized and often the
most remembered are those committed against persons. While robberies or drug use may be
recognized by some as major problems, it is often crimes such as assault, murder, or rape which stick
in people s minds. Crimes against persons are a category of crime that consists of offenses that usually
involve causing or attempting to cause bodily harm or a threat of bodily harm (study.com). Also
considered to be crimes against persons are domestic violence, assault, and stalking. Needless to say,
there are laws imposed against these crimes, and the penalties are often much more sever that with
victimless crimes or property crimes. Interestingly, crimes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the same time, the law also increased funding for the FBI, DEA, INS, US Attorneys and other
aspects of the Justice Department. Certain weapon bands are employed; the death penalty is expanded,
creates new categories for certain offenses, and creates the three strikes rule (ncjrs.gov). Needless to
say, this law has such a wide range of jurisdiction on all aspects of crime, and is widely influential on
the handling of crimes against persons. I find the aforementioned Three Strikes Law to be especially
impactful on crimes against persons, as the law essentially states that if you are convicted of three
crimes considered to meet a certain degree of heinous, imprisonment for life is going to be the next
punishment. Essentially, this law allows someone to go to prison for life based on the third offense,
regardless of how minor this offense may be, if they have two prior convictions on serious crimes
(law.stanford.edu). These laws have made huge progress in creating a sense of concern in potential
criminals minds, knowing the punishments, and with the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement
Act, the expanded budgetary constraints allowed a much bigger

Relationship Between Mpls And Ipv6
Relationship of SR with MPLS and Ipv6:
The main differences from the IPv6 source route model are:
The source route does not involve IP addresses; instead, the source route is encoded as an ordered list
of segments.
A segment can represent any instruction; either a service or a topology path. The path to an IP address
is usually the shortest path to that addess. A segment on the other hand can represent any path. (e.g. an
adjacency segment can force a packet to a next hop via a specific adjacency even if the shortest path
does not use that adjacency).
The edge routers (ingress and egress) are identified and are always available, thus permitting
accounting and policy applications.
The functionality of the source route cannot be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concept of indexed global segment is similar to the MPLS architecture as the absolute value
allocated to any segment (can be global or local) can be managed by a local allocation process. This is
similar to some MPLS signaling protocols.
Labels in SR can be signaled by various protocols. Within a SR domain, the MPLS signaling protocols
(like LDP and RSVP)are not required. If present, SR can coexist and interwork with LDP and RSVP.
The source routing model offers the support for explicit routing capability.
In contrast to RSVP based explicit routes hat consost of non ECMP circuits which is similar to ATM
or FR, SR based explicit routes can be built as list of ECMP aware node segments and therefore
ECMP aware traffic engineering is provided an in built by SR.
When Segment Routing is instantiated over the MPLS data plane the following applies:
A list of segments is represented as a stack of labels.
The active segment is the top label.
The CONTINUE operation is implemented as an MPLS swap operation.
When the same SRGB block is used throughout the SR domain, the outgoing label value is equal to
the incoming label value. Else, the outgoing label value is [SRGB(next_hop)+index].
The NEXT operation is implemented as an MPLS pop operation.
The PUSH operation is implemented as an MPLS push of a label stack. In conclusion, there are no
changes in the operations of the data plane

Reasons Behind Panera s Continued Growth And Success
Ron Shaich, who is the reason behind Panera s continued growth and success, founded Panera Bread.
Panera Bread in 2014 was widely regarded as the clear leader of the fast casual segment of the
restaurant industry. Panera Bread is in the fast casual restaurant industry. This industry focuses on
restaurants filling the gap between fast food outlets and casual, full table service restaurants. It
provides quick service dining (much like fast food) but the industry distinguishes enticing menus,

Political factors can have effects on supply chains due to regulations that can be put into place by the
government. Something could effect road regulations or something of the same nature. Panera Bread
may see an effect on these regulations, but the case did not go into detail as to whether or not Panera is
currently facing any issues with political factors. Economic Conditions Economic conditions can have
a major influence on any company across the globe in today s world. Panera Bread can be affected by
economic conditions in different types of its segments. Panera has many signature soups, pastas, and
other food products that are released during the year for certain periods of time for the season. These
products can be very rewarding to the company by the seasonal times such as Christmas, when people
have a little extra money to spend they go to Panera for their special soup craving. Before the
economic downturn of 2008 2009, Panera made three marketing initiatives to try to raise awareness
and bring home the idea of food you crave, food you can trust. The economic environment of the
downturn in 2009 made these 3 marketing initiatives partially successful due to the bad economic
environment. The environment was really had on Panera considering they area a commodity for

Camera Techniques Used in Run Lola Run
Run Lola Run is a film not based in a particular place or country, more of a cityscape, although some
audience members may recognize the scenes as ones representing Berlin, Germany. Throughout the
film Tom Tykwer the film s director, shows a wide variety of editing and camera techniques giving the
film an alternative feel rather than a commercialised one. A few of Tykers many technques include
close ups, establishing shots accompanied with a bird s eye view, flash backs, fast paced editing and to
counter flashbacks the use of flash forwards.
One particular scene uses close up to effectively show the emotions displayed on Mani and Lola s
face. Mani portraying fear and anguish while Lola has a face of stress and her body language gives of
the feel of her feeling responsible. This scene takes places as the start of the film and gives the story of
the plot and an opening to the story. Close ups are used to get the audience s empathy or connection to
the character. It gives a clear view of the emotions that are being depicted by both Lola and Mani.
The first shot after the opening sequence was one of a bird s eye view, a bird s eye view shows a map
like perspective building rooftops, bridges, roads and a canal. Tykwer sets the distant scene with this
but does not need it to define a certain place, as the film needs no area to make it complete. It was
used for only a short period of time and makes a good start for the next effect.
To finish the bird s eye view it smoothly

The Illusions Of American Dream
The illusions of American Dream also presents in all men are created equal in the declaration. As xxx

voice in the new government, but not the people . When the country grows and their descendants

These descriptions of the harsh competitive environment become a significant part of The Jungle. The
labours are treated as domestic animals as their working intensity is inconceivable that they worked
with furious intensity, literally upon the run at a pace with which there is nothing to be compared
except a football game. (chapter 3) The work almost deprived all of the energy of labours. The novel
also reflects the brutal competition which is full of deceit and dishonesty. Many people choose to
benumb themselves to be an alcoholic in order to avoid competition. For women who are lack of
advantages for competition, prostitution and degeneration become the only way to survive. The poor
are competing with each other for the sake of food and clothing, while politicians are bribing money
from the poor for defeating their rivals, and the police, the judges keep wages of the workers for their
own expense. The American society in the eyes of Sinclair hardly has charity, even if there have
charity, goodwill always comes from the lower class and the poorest. In fact, The Jungle is a visual
definition of the inconstant society, that the industrialization of America is a brutal and bloody jungle
world.

female roles similar to those of their British and Irish relatives. Their value in society was based on
their ability to bear and raise children and maintain a home and they were dependent on the financial

These female nurses provided medical help for the wounded soldiers at Gallipoli and also on the
Western Front. As most of the hospital stations were near the front line many nurses were exposed to
aerial bombs and shelling. They were expected to work in primitive conditions; some hospitals were
equipped for a mere 520 people yet held 2500 during the wartime. As a result of the long hours and
poor conditions many nurses suffered serious illnesses. A total of 2139 Australian nurses served
overseas and of these 25 died. Through enduring such adverse conditions nurses proved extreme
dedication towards the war effort and their country. As nurses were the only women allowed to
directly contribute to the war effort, the women who couldn¡¦t serve sought to boost morale, raise
money and provide comfort for soldiers, especially those who were sick or wounded. A particularly
popular attempt to assist the soldiers was that through knitting. Some 600,000 socks were knitted for

How The Civil War Became A War To Free The Slaves
When President Lincoln first called for troops to put down the confederate rebellion, he made no
connection between this action and an attempt to end slavery. In fact, he explicitly stated the utmost
care will be observed to avoid any devastation, any destruction of, or interference with, property... At
this point, slavery was not yet integral to the struggle, it was much more important for the Union to air
on the side of political prudence and avoid angering loyal boarder states. However, despite this lack of
political dialogue, many abolitionists, slaves, and free blacks felt the war to preserve the union could
also be a war to end slavery. In the end, they were right, as military need overwhelmed potential
political dangers, slaves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite these misgivings, the Union policy of returning slaves who had not been employed by the
Confederacy continued as the army moved through the boarder states. When they began to move
deeper south, however, this policy became much more difficult to enforce. General Ambrose E.
Burnside found this to be true after invading coastal North Carolina and finding virtually no loyal
slaveholders but many slaves who seemed to be wild with excitement and delight. This, combined
with ever increasing recognition of fugitive slave labors importance to the Union war effort, led
Congress to declare in March 1892 that Union soldiers were forbidden to return fugitive slaves to their
owners. Even with this change in policy, the federal government continued to overrule emancipation
efforts as they attempted to retain the loyalty of slaveholding boarder states. When General David
Hunter proclaimed freedom for all slaves in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, he was quickly
overruled by President Lincoln. However, while Lincoln clearly stuck down General Hunter s
proclamation, he also offered aid to the boarder states so they may adopt a gradual abolishment of
slavery. Despite this set back, Hunter continued to work for the emancipation of slaves, and went so
far as to enlist ex slaves as soldiers without any authorization to do so. Although his actions may have

Summary Of Pico Iyer s Where World Collide
Imagine believing a fantasy only to be faced with a harsh reality. In Pico Iyer s Essay, Where World
Collide, Iyer depicts multiple bustling scenes he witnesses at the Los Angeles International Airport
(LAX). Through his interactions, his observations of travelers at the airport, and his own perceptions
based on his viewpoint as an immigrant traveling to a land often fantasized about, Iyer makes several
assertions about Los Angeles. Through diction, juxtapositions, humor, and anecdotes in his essay, Iyer
demonstrates that Los Angeles is not some wonderful fantasy that many believe it to be; but that it is
instead representative of the cultural melting pot that is the world. Iyer begins the piece on a rather
vague note. He introduces the essay in third person referring to they . Although this they is not
revealed until further paragraphs, through his descriptions of places and concepts related to Los
Angeles, such as the Dodgers, Disneyland, or airport shuttles, the reader soon can conclude that this
they are travelers and they are at no other than LAX. Through his use of third person Iyer helps to
show multiple perspectives of how coming to Los Angeles may be. In each of these perspectives he
highlights the enthusiasm of these travelers thus helping to strengthen his assertion that to many
newcomers, Los Angeles is often a fantasy. He also introduces the concept of Los Angeles being like a
dream to immigrants and tourists through his use of diction when referencing Los

The Biblical Subtext in Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot...
Samuel Beckett may have renounced the use of Christian motifs in Waiting for Godot, but looking at
the character of Lucky proves otherwise. We can see Lucky as a representative figure of Christ as his
actions in the play carry a sort of criticism of Christianity. His role suggests that the advantages of
Christianity have declined to the point where they no longer help humanity at all. If you analyze the
poem Waiting for Godot you can see the huge parallels between the character of Lucky and Jesus.
Lucky, bound with a rope, is the disgraced prisoner, very similar to the story of Jesus as the prisoner of
the Romans after Judas turned him in. Pozzo beats, yells at, and spits on Lucky the same way the
Roman treated Jesus when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lucky slowly chokes as the rope cuts into his neck just as crucifixion suffocated Jesus until he was
dead. Pozzo, rephrasing Estragon s question, then asks a emblematic question concerning Lucky, he
asks Why he doesn t make himself comfortable? . This question refers specifically to the taunting
spectators gave to Jesus, telling him to save himself and if he is the son of God to get himself off the
cross, this also refers generally to Christ s mission of suffering on earth to forgive us of our sins.
Pozzo tells them that Lucky doesn t want to let go of the luggage because He wants to mollify me, so
that I will give up the idea of parting with him . He also says that Lucky imagines that when I see how
well he carries I ll be tempted to keep him on in that capacity . This is extremely similar to the way
that Jesus believed that he had to carry out his burden of crucifixion to awaken humanity s faith in
God for time to come. Jesus directed his apostles to make disciples of all nations and to teach them to
carry out everything I have commanded you. And always know that I am with you (Matthew 28:18
20). Jesus wanted us as humans to act in his own memory, or to keep himself on in that capacity,
which was that of teacher, consoler, and in the end deliverer of salvation. In the past Pozzo had
benefitted from Lucky, now he thinks the benefits are gone. Something,

Analysis Of Angela Carter s Post Modern Rendition, Tiger...
When you think of the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast, what do you remember? In the typical plot
of Beauty and the Beast, Beauty aids the Beast in his transformation from beast to man. The focus of
the typical storyline is the battle between innate traits and characteristics accepted by society.
However, in Angela Carter s post modern rendition, Tiger s Bride, not only does she shift the focus to
explore the relationship between love and self acceptance, but she also changes the plot in efforts to
make Beauty undergo a transformation. Through Carter s tone, exploration of power dynamics, and
use of imagery, the story follows the progression of the love and self acceptance that influences
Beauty s metamorphosis.

to society and allowing her to have freedom. By removing each layer of skin , the Beast ultimately
unleashes Beauty s true identity, giving her the opportunity to fully accept herself without the pressure
to conform by society. With Carter s use of tone, the audience gains the ability to explore how the love
of the Beast causes Beauty to not only discover who she truly is, but also learn how to accept herself.
Similarly, Carter explores the power dynamics between the Beast and Beauty, drawing attention to
how outside forces allow a person to develop self acceptance. In the beginning, Carter introduces the
audience to Beauty who has autonomy, yet still complies to societal norms. When she encounters the
Beast after she s left in the castle alone, she decides that she will not smile (69) at him, simply because
she does not want to. By choosing to not smile at the Beast, she defies the typical role of a female in a

A Research On Social Media
Forrester Research provided the research behind Social Technographics. Their research identified six
types of the social media users and how they interact in the online environment. The Social
Technographics ladder presented in Figure 3.3. of our reading depicts a ladder with different
participation groups at each rung. These groups include: creators, conversationalists, critics, collectors,

Analysis Of Sergei Prokofiev s Symphony

Music 101
Sergei Prokofiev s Symphony No.1, Classical Symphony, a favorite to many, is a major piece of the
orchestral repertoire. The piece was composed from 1916 to 1917 and was in a new genre; neo
classism. This new genre was due the reaction to the expressionism and the perceived formlessness of
the late romantic music during the time period (Whittall). In fact, the Classical Symphony is one of the
earliest works of music using the aesthetic of the neo classical movement, and it is possibly the
earliest symphony to do so (Green). Despite being written in the early 20th century during the midst of
the Russian revolution, Prokfiev stayed true to the important aspects of pre romantic instrumentation
and structural, harmonic, and melodic styles. As previously stated, the Classical Symphony was
written in the midst of the Russian Revolutions in 1917. These revolutions were the cause of major
turning points in Russian history and Prokofiev was stuck at the heart of it in Petrograd, the current
day Saint Petersburg. Trouble during this period would begin with protests of thousands , escalating
with food fights and fires until tsar Nicholas was abdicated (Nice, 130). During this chain of events,
Prokofiev would find himself taking refuge from time to time behind projecting walls when the
shooting became too intense (Nice, 130). Lenin s return, massive strikes and the first of the Bolsheviks
attempts to seize power in July

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Incremental Budgeting
1. INCREMENTAL BUDGETING
The procedure of budget formulation is called incremental budgeting .
With incremental budgeting, the budget used for the current fiscal year becomes the base for
incremental distribution for the next fiscal year. In other words in this system the expenditures are
made on basis of resources. If resources fall short the expenditures are cut down. Thus, this form of
budgeting agrees to the statement of cutting coat according to cloth. The assumption is that the entire
organization and all of its departments will continue to operate at a minimum with the same budget
used the previous year. Incremental budgeting works efficiently in organizations where management

Disadvantages of zero base budgeting:
a) Bureaucracy Creating a zero base budget from the ground up on a continuing basis calls for an
enormous amount of analysis, meetings, and reports, all of which requires additional staff to manage
the process.
b) Gamesmanship Some managers may attempt to cook their budget reports to concentrate
expenditures under the most vital activities, thereby ensuring that their budgets will not be reduced.
c) Intangible justifications It can be difficult to determine or justify expenditure levels for areas of a
business that do not produce concrete, tangible results. For example, what is the correct amount of
marketing expense, and how much should be invested in research and development activities?
d) Managerial time The operational review mandated by zero base budgeting requires a significant
amount of management time.
e) Training Managers require significant training in the zero base budgeting process, which further
increases the time required each

Literary Style Of Mark Twain
Mark Twain was the first major American writer to be born away from the East Coast in the border
state of Missouri. His regional masterpieces were the memoir, Life on the Mississippi and the novels
Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Twain s style influenced by
journalism, wedded to the vernacular, direct and unadorned but also highly evocative and impudently
humorous changed the way Americans write their language. His characters speak like real people and
sound peculiarly American, using local dialects, newly invented words, and regional accents. Other
writers interested in regional differences and language were George W. Cable, Thomas Nelson Page,
Joel Chandler Harris, Mary Noailles Murfree (Charles Egbert Craddock), Sarah Orne Jewett, Mary E.
Wilkins Freeman, Henry Cuyler Bunner, and William Sydney Porter (O. Henry). A version of local
color regionalism that focused on minority experiences can be seen in the works of Charles W.
Chesnutt (African American), of Maria Ruiz de Burton, one of the earliest Mexican American
novelists to write in English, and in the Yiddish inflected works of Abraham Cohan. William Dean
Howells also represented the realist tradition through his novels, including The Rise of Silas Lap ham
and his work as editor of the Atlantic Monthly.

women particularly necklaces and bracelets. It is very likely however that men s jewelry existed
before women began adorning themselves. Custom men s jewelry existed during the Stone Age over a
thousand centuries ago; Ice Age hunters often wore necklaces made from the teeth, claws and/or bones
of animals which they had killed for the tribe to eat. Among North American Indians, women s and
men s jewelry served a dual purpose: dentalia, or wampum shells worn around the neck also served as

In this textbook, materials management includes all activities in the flow of materials from the
supplier to the consumer. Such activities include physical supply, operations planning and control, and
physical distribution. Other terms sometimes used in this area are business logistics and supply chain
management. Often, the emphasis in business logistics is on transportation and distribution systems
with little concern for what occurs in the factory. Whereas some chapters in this text are devoted to
transportation and distribution, emphasis is placed on operations planning and control. Distribution
and operations are managed by planning and controlling the flow of materials through them and by
using the system s resources to achieve a desired customer service level. These activities are the
responsibility of materials management and affect every department in a manufacturing business. If
the materials management system is not well designed and managed, the distribution and
manufacturing system will be less effective and more costly. Anyone working in manufacturing or
distribution should have a good basic understanding of the factors influencing materials flow. This text
aims to provide that understanding. APICS defines the body of knowledge, concepts, and vocabulary

Self-Control And Courage In The Spartan King...
In Thucydides History, the Spartan king Archidamus outlines the values he idealizes in the Spartan
soldiers, namely self control and discipline which in turn create shame and courage. These values are
similar to those defined by Socrates as vital to the formation of virtuous guardians of kallipollis in
Books 2 and 3 of The Republic. Socrates ideal values are courage, moderation and a sense of shame.
Thus, since there are parallels in the values idealized by both Archidamus and Socrates, it is probable
that both the Spartan soldiers and the guardians of kallipollis will resemble each other to an extent.
Archidamus conception of courage is derived from the notions of self control, discipline and shame. In
his speech, he warns the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Courage will be taught by censoring fearful stories of the Underworld and Hades so that the guardians
will be fearless of death (Republic, 386b). Moderation and self control will be taught by removing
stories of gods and heroes living in excess (Republic, 390a d) and of men lamenting (Republic, 388a
d). The modes and rhythms should follow similarly, culminating in an education of music and poetry
that teaches these ideals of courage and moderation. Physical training must be simple as a good soul
that is trained in music and poetry will produce a good body (Republic, 403d). This combined with the
practice of moderation and self control in food and drink (Republic, 404c) will create the physical
aptitude needed to guard the city and fight wars. Socrates ends his dialogue about the guardians
education by emphasizing the importance of the harmony of education in music and poetry and
physical training in making the soul moderate and courageous (Republic, 410d e). Socrates wants the
guardians to embody goodness and for goodness to become a natural instinct and inclination. This is
then the development of a sense of shame. Guardians who are raised in this manner will feel a strong
sense of shame when confronted by ideals that are opposite to their nature such as cowardice and
licentiousness. Thus, it is evident that purifying these stories and correct physical training will teach
the guardians courage,

The Reintroduction of the Gray Wolf to Yellowstone Essay
The Reintroduction of the Gray Wolf to Yellowstone
Gauss Law states that no two organisms can occupy the same ecological niche without excluding the
other, but what happens when man gets involved with nature and tries to introduce a species where it
doesn t belong which in turn provides a second organism to fill the same niche as the first? The results
of human intervention have often been disastrous for the organism that we re supposedly helping.
Humans often times do not understand the complexity of the implications that are caused directly
through our intervention. In 1974, the gray wolf was listed on the Endangered Species List, and in an
effort to reestablish their populations, wolves were re introduced into Yellowstone ... Show more

Since the introduction of the wolves, 300 sheep, 66 cattle, 1 horse, and 20 dogs have been killed by
these predators, and to call them anything else would be wrong.
When the wolves were first reintroduced, having 30 equally distributed breeding pairs was enough to
constitute a success. A breeding pair is defined as an adult male and female wolf raising two or more
pups in a year, where the pups are born between April and May and then raised till December 31. With
the reintroduction of the gray wolf, a recovery population goal had to be established. That was the
goal of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) for the recovery of the wolf population
for the northern Rocky Mountains. Wolf numbers needed to be maintained at this level for at least
three consecutive years. According to the USFWS 2002 was the third year where there had been at
least 30 breeding pairs throughout Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. After 2002, these wolves are still
multiplying and the population continues to soar, even at this very moment.
In the Greater Yellowstone area, the target goal was to maintain 15 wolf packs in the state of
Wyoming, seven of these packs residing outside the area of national parks. Mission accomplished. As
of December 2002, there were 22 documented packs in the state of Wyoming. Eight of the twenty two
are living outside the boundaries of national parks, yet the

The Care Setting Of An Intensive Care Unit ( Icu )
In the acute care setting of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), more than 500,000 patients die nationwide
each year in the US (Nowlin, 2004). An increased surge in patient demand for skilled critical care
services, caused by an extended life expectancy due to advances in healthcare, has put an enormous
strain on critical care. In many cases the availability of technology can make the difference between
life and death for a patient. In addition to providing an extra set of eyes to monitor patients, and
streamlining collaboration among healthcare provider, the introduction of the virtual ICU (vICU)
helps to bridge the gap of nurse and intensivists shortages naturally that would otherwise make it
difficult to meet patient demand. Overview of Virtual Intensive Care Unit The virtual ICU, also known
as a tele ICU or an electronic ICU (eICU), is a form of telemedicine that uses audio/video technology
to further increase the of critical care service. The vICU uses two way cameras, microphones, video
monitors, telephones, computers and alarms all connected with high bandwidth data lines. The

The Collapse Of The Housing Crisis
Economists cite a plethora of reasons on why the Global Financial Crisis started. However, most
economists can agree that the bursting of the U.S housing bubble, irresponsibility practiced by
regulators and financiers, greed of banks, lack of leadership from central banks, complex chains of
debt, and the credit crunch led to what is referred to as the largest crisis since the Great Depression.
The collapse of the housing bubble, which peaked in 2004, in the United States is usually cited as the
initial trigger of the crisis. The beginning of the bubble was due to the readily available credit in the
U.S. that was fueled by a large influx of foreign funds following the Russian debt crisis and Asian
financial crisis. This led to a boom in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slumps in value made it difficult for banks to sell assets at almost any price or use them as collateral
for short term funding. Real estate prices also plummeted, and interest rates rose sharply from 1% to
5.35%. The devaluation of homes caused them to be worth less than their mortgage loan, giving
consumers an incentive to foreclose on their mortgages. In addition, homeowners that were barely
able to afford mortgage payments while interest rates were low were suddenly slapped in the face with
the hike in interest rates, which also caused them to default on their mortgages. This phenomenon,
dubbed the foreclosure epidemic , drained wealth from other consumers and weakened the financial
strength of banks. Banks and investors that had borrowed and invested heavily in subprime mortgage
backed securities also incurred significant amounts of debt or losses with the burst of the housing
bubble, adding to the severity with which the collapse of this credit driven bubble affected the world
economy. With the collapse the housing bubble and the value of asset prices, banks began to doubt the
viability of their counterparties. Without trust, which is the ultimate glue of all financial systems,
banks stopped lending, which is the exact opposite of what banks are supposed to do. For example, the

How Does Breyten Breytenbach Show in His Poetry His Wife s...
In his poetry which he wrote during his time in jail, Breyten Breytenbach shows that his wife and his

conditions of prison.
The thought of his wife allowed Breyten Breytenbach to escape from the horrors of his surroundings
in prison and gave him psychological freedom; word from her let him escape into a world of space,
peace and freedom created for him in her letters, memories of being together with his wife transported

The word sky is used in another part of the poem – suspended by the sky of your words –

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead And Hamlet Analysis
Shakespeare and Stoppard were one of most well known playwrights during their respective centuries

Hamlet, the main character, Prince Hamlet, is in a great dilemma. His father is killed by his uncle
Claudius, so then Claudius is able to take the throne and become the King of Denmark. Hamlet finds
this out from the ghost, and Hamlet is not sure how to avenge his father s death or whether he should

plays, the main characters believe that they can t control their destiny and that they are born to follow
instructions. Both of the main characters accept their fate, but there is a huge difference in how they
accept their fates. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern do a coin toss and coin lands heads 156 times in a
row. Rosencrantz doesn t question this and just blindly accepts it. The characters have no wit and just
think everything is controlled by fate. On the other hand, Hamlet analyzes what his fate is and actually
understands his fate. He understands his duty towards his family, and does not happily accept his fate,
but yet he accepts it. He questions what the ghost tells him to do. He questions validity of the ghost s
statement by putting Claudius in that mousetrap. After he finds out the ghost was speaking the truth, he
then accepts his fate. In Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, the theme of fate vs.
free will is incorporated from Shakespeare s of Hamlet. Both the novels depict the theme similarly by

The Bands And Music Groups That Are Popular Today
Introduction:
Look at the bands and music groups that are popular today. They use many different instruments to
create the songs they present to us. A common instrument they tend to use is the guitar. Whether it is
acoustic or electric, the guitar can be used in various styles of music such as rock, pop, or country,
presenting it s ability to adapt and change the different forms, creating perfect harmonies. Although, it
is a well known instrument around the world, people do not appreciate the time and effort it takes to
create such an incredible instrument. We tend to applaud the people that play it well, but what about
those who create it? What about the people behind the creation of the guitars we play? There is a lot
that goes into making such a magnificent instrument. While there is a lot of woodwork and
craftsmanship needed, putting the parts together without a mistake, people don t realize that there is a
lot of math that goes into creating a guitar. By combining the fields of mathematics and musical
theory, a craftsman can produce a guitar of great quality. To understand this complex interplay, we
must understand:
the relationship between frequency of sound waves and the pitch of musical notes
the body of a guitar as an acoustic resonator
Pythagorean tuning and the diatonic scale
the Western chromatic scale as a group of 12 elements closed under transposition in a specific system
of tuning
how to place frets on a guitar using either a mathematical idea

Frankenstein Essay
Compare Shelley s Presentation of Women in Frankenstein with that of Brave New World
Throughout the novel, Frankenstein, a feminist theme subtly pervades the novel, and is crucial to the
characters of the story, the plot line and the setting of the novel. The reasons for the creation of the
monster lie within Frankenstein s own familial relationships, especially with the grief he experienced
at the loss of his mother.
Frankenstein is riddled with passive female characters who suffer throughout the novel. However, not
one female character throughout the novel ever exhibits behaviour outside of the submissive female
role. Elizabeth, Victor s love, dies at the hand of the male creature, while waiting for Victor to rescue

The portrayal of male superiority is uniform throughout the novel, and starts by introducing that
overall dominance with the tour of the Hatchery. All the students on the tour are male and although
maybe a minor detail, this shows that women are restricted to the things they do at an early age.
During the tour, the students learn about pregnancies and that women are sterilised, yet the men aren t.
This short and important fact by the author exclaims the physiological dominance of men over
women. The book shows no clear objection to leaving the future of their offspring in the hands of
males, even if it is unhealthy.
A specific character to talk about in Brave New World is Linda. Linda is the character in the novel
who opposes the traditional role of women in the book (and that of women in Frankenstein). Like in a
lot of Huxley s pieces, this novel centres heavily around sex. In Brave New World, sex is no longer
used for procreation but for distraction and pacification. The act has been dehumanised and devoid of
human passion. I feel in this, Huxley tries to argue whether the future of our lifestyle is a subjugation
of a natural inclination toward monogamy or the freedom of sleeping with many people. Linda is
portrayed as the person opposing to modern culture, and causes the reader to question whether Huxley
s portrayal of women in Brave New World is apt. For her opposition to the modern

Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA)
A cost benefit analysis (CBA) is a systematic analysis of health care resource expenditures related to
potential benefit, strengths, and weakness in a setting where decisions need to be made based on
limited resources (Waxman, 2013). Cost effectiveness analysis (CEA) is a great application to use for
the implementation of this evidence based practice (EBP) change project because it will set the
foundation to be able to assess the benefits as it relates to decreasing cost and improving patient
outcomes. According to Waxman (2013) CEA is a comparison of the cost and value of intervention to
create improved health and longevity. This is imperative because healthcare research often uses CEA
to analyze the cost of healthcare interventions in terms of lives saved, illnesses prevented or years of
life gained (Mullie, Schwartzman, Zwerling N Diaye, 2017). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Flight Patterns Essay
Sherman Alexie s Flight Patterns tries to tackle a challenging subject. It probes the underbelly of
modern life, sifting through the cloudy American mind that s full of seemingly useless information, in
search of what s truly important in life. This happens through the stories two main scenes. The first
depicts William s relationship with his daughter and wife, and conflicts in life. The second engages
William in a taxi cab conversation that shuffles his priorities and forces him to confront his problem.
This pushes him to his tipping point, and when the ride is over, he becomes uneasy and cares only to
hear his family s voice, not about his job, or the fears that had previously been driving forces. Alexie
is trying to show that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alexie s trying to show us that hiding your problems isn t the correct way to deal with them, and in
William s case, his family needs him more than William needs his job. What exactly is his job? He
works at a think tank selling theoretical ideas to companies. This job plagues William with
ambivalence. Though he s able to think creatively and enjoy certain freedoms that other jobs don t
offer, it restricts the time he has with his family by requires him to fly all over the country. And as he
notes that his wife s always waiting for William to call while on the road, his taxi arrives and William
embarks on the second part of the story. The way I read the taxi cab portion made me think of it as a
quasi mock confession booth, with the driver, Fekadu, serving as the priest. This isn t very clear at the
beginning of the ride when William s trying to meditate and stuff his problems away into his
imaginary deposit box. But once Fekadu gets the conversation rolling, the outpour of emotion starts,
marking an important shift from William hiding problems to trying to face them. After explaining the
feelings that come with leaving his family, causing him sometimes to feel as if he ll explode without
their love, he has an insight that plays into the religious aspect of the taxicab. There is emotional
safety in anonymity, he thought (page 432). And while I m not Catholic, I ve noticed in movies

The Superheroes Of The Comics
Once disregarded, comic books have been progressively paving a way to the future without sexism
and racism in a time when they are becoming increasingly impactful to young adults. In 1938
Superman debuted and began the future of comic books, creating the two most influential publishers
(Adkins). In 1940 Fantomah was introduced as the first female superhero character, though she
remained a less popular character in the industry. It wasn t until the early 1960 s that Wonder Woman
was created, and she became one of the most well known female heroes among the genres. Since then,
more and more women have been depicted as heroes, mostly female versions of themselves. With
racism and sexism still a common problem in society, Marvel was the first to announce that they
would replace a major male hero completely with a female that has her own origin story, as well as
sticking with comics and allowing Falcon, an African American superhero, to take the place of
Captain America. Though resulting in mixed reviews, this step has been seen as a dive into the right
direction for equality in the comic book industry. For feminism in comic books, it seems they are
being pushed in the right directions with two major heroines taking the big screen in their own shows.
The last female superhero to have her very own television show was Wonder Woman in 1975, 27
years ago (Polo). With the releases of Jessica Jones and Supergirl, it is the first time there have been
two female super leads, not

Philippine Annexation Dbq
Philippine Annexation DBQ Essay The ending of the Spanish American War left the United States
with a controversial question. Many debates rose throughout the U.S. about whether the Philippine
Islands should be annexed or not. The Philippines fought along side with the United States against
Spanish to gain their independence. The annexation of the Philippine Islands would be unjustified and
an act of tyranny. The decision done by the U.S. to annex the Philippines would rise uncertainty
between the two countries. The U.S. was filled with advocates who agreed with the annexation and
with advocates who disagreed. Americans who denounced the annexation of the Philippine Islands
believed that it would be act of tyranny and a decision made without consent. For example, in
Document A, it states that the American Anti Imperialist League believe that if America takes the
Philippines without consent it will commit an act of despotism. The document also states that the
group s intention is to fight against America s expansion of power. The information adds on to the idea

were advocates against the annexation, many believed it was the right decision. Many individuals
believed that taking the Philippines would help and better the country. For example, in Document C,
William McKinley states that allowing the country to be independent would be wrong because the
Philippines is unfit to self govern and it could lead them anarchy like Spain. McKinley also states that
there is no where else for the Philippines to go, he says that America cannot give them back to Spain
because it would be shameful and that the country cannot be given to France or Germany because it
would disgraceful. Therefore, America has no other choice but annex the Philippine Islands and save it
from ruin. The individuals who fought for the annexation depended their arguments on what they

The African Descent Essay
1. Criollos: This term is often referred to as creoles, and it relates to the people of pure European
descent born in the Americas. They were often the ones who carried out independence movements in
Latin America, as they were tired of being subdued by the European natives and thus wanted to be the
elite class. They did not seek to improve the lives of non white people, and used theories of racial
purity to keep them under control.
2. Mestizos: It refers to the non white people present in Latin America. They are the result of various
mixtures between people of Spanish, Indian and African heritage. They constituted the bottom of
society before and even long after independence was achieved in the majority of the nations in South
and Central America.
3. reinos and peninsulares: European natives who lived in Latin America. Before independence was
obtained in the various South American countries, they were at the top of society, and subjugated both
the creoles and the mestizos. In most cases, only peninsulares were appointed to the colonies highest
office positions in the colonial governments.
4. Toussaint L Ouverture and Henri Christophe: They were the two main key protagonists of the
Haitian revolution, which which allowed Haiti to become independent from France in 1804. Haiti was
the second nation to obtain self rule in the Western Hemisphere.

Midrash Exegesis
After many centuries of the advancement of pedagogy and institutionalize scientific standards,
Biblical exegesis often stands as a rigorous, meticulous discipline. The necessity of studying Scripture
within the framework of accepted Biblical criticisms, research methods, and orthodoxy of proper
hermeneutics often makes studying the Bible a systematic science, instead of a spiritual discipline of
divine revelation. However, within the Jewish tradition many Rabbis forsake these modern criteria and
continue to tradition of approaching Scripture through the ancient spiritual practice of Midrash.

portions of Scripture refining them through collation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While midrash utilizes academics, it is not a purely academic discipline. Instead midrash reminds us
that the Holy Bible is a spiritual book and the pursuit of studying Scripture is a spiritual discipline.
The ancient art of Midrash reminds us that Scripture has been revered in this fashion, longer than it
has been held to an academic standard. For this reason the spiritual and wisdom imparted through the
midrashim of revered rabbis still present us with spiritual truth. The introspective mysticism of
midrash should encourage us to begin studying Scripture in a similar matter. It is an holistic exercise
that encourages us to love the Lord fully by interpreting Scripture with all our heart, mind, and soul
and to be encouraged to amplify the intricacy of Scripture with other Scripture and wisdom to find
new wisdom and application that remained hidden in our sacred

Stress and Perfectionism in Academic Achievement Between Blue Ribbon Schools vs. Non blue
Ribbon Schools Erin Altenberger Northern Kentucky University Abstract Stress and Perfectionism in
Academic Achievement Between Blue Ribbon Schools vs. Non blue Ribbon Schools Damian,
Stoeber, Negru, and Baban (2014), describes perfectionism as endeavoring for flawlessness and
setting extremely high standards for oneself. There is not just one type of perfectionism; there are in
fact three different categories of perfectionism. The three categories included self oriented, other
oriented, and socially prescribed perfectionism. Self oriented perfectionism refers to an individual that
sets and seeks high standards of performance for themselves (Chang, 2006). Chang (2006) describes
other oriented perfectionism as an individual that assumes that others should be perfect in their
actions. Socially prescribed perfectionism refers to an individual that believes that those around them
anticipate perfectionism from him or her (Chang, 2006). With what we know about perfectionism and
the potential distress it may cause, one can consider that stress could be a component with
perfectionism. Pope (2005) portrays stress as the perceived shortcomings between demands and the
accessibility of resources to meet those demands. Stress is a feeling that affects people of all ages.
Stress impacts people in a large array of ways, which include emotionally, physically, and mentally

The Impact Of Rock And Roll On Society
Throughout the entire history of Rock and Roll, it is very apparent just how great of an impact social
and cultural change has made on the development of the genre. Society is such a powerful entity and
its influences on art are very often overlooked. If one person has the ability to independently influence
and conduct change, imagine the available influence that is made possible with society as a whole
during notable periods of development and change throughout the history of America. As discussed in
this paper, music has been a collaborative development with several determining factors. Society,
including both black and white individuals, has previously and continues to develop music into a
powerful and meaningful art form. Music allows society an outlet to express their feelings of sorrow,
confusion, and happiness. Rock and Roll contains several umbrella sub genres that have made major
impacts on the music that is known and enjoyed today. It is one of the best ways in which to
universally connect with other people throughout the world with common and similar feelings. It helps
many people feel as though they are not alone and there are others out there who are going through
similar experiences as they are.
The influence on Rock and Roll by the music that the first Africans brought to the United States is not
always discussed but had a very important impact on the development of this ever growing genre. This
transplanted African music wasn t exactly boogie woogie or

How Did Alcatraz Escape
Alcatraz
On June 11, 1962, Frank Morris and the two brothers, Clarence and John Anglin, escaped from the
prison Alcatraz in the middle of the San Francisco Bay. According to the ¨Investigation¨ article, the
FBI closed the case in the year 1979 and the case was on going for 17 years. They had pronounced in
this article that they think that the three escapees had died but, I think otherwise. There is a lot of
evidence proving that these escapees are not dead. According to the video, Did Frank Morris survive?¨
The day after the escape there was a raft found on angel island and footprints heading away from the
raft. This is a big clue because from interviewing West he said there plan was to use the raft to make
their way to angel island and so saying that they found a raft ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

But it was later on figured out that Frank Morris was a very smart guy with a 133 IQ. So the
MythBusters tested it. They got the same type of raincoats that were found on the raft at angel islands
and they made the same exact one and then they went to Alcatraz prison and they waited till the exact
time the escapees escaped and the exact same tides that they were the night of and when it hit that
time they all started from the prison rooms that frank and the two brothers had escaped from and took
the way that they did until they hit the bay and noticed that they will not be able to go to angel islands
and either would have frank and the brothers so they must ve gone a different way to escape to
freedom. And so if he was this smart he could ve gotten into the water and noticed that the currents
were not going to take them to angel island and figured out another way. He could have taken another
way that was possible and that was to go the Marin Headlands which the mythbusters also put to the
tes and once they did they made it easy to the island without any big

Samsung s Accounting Probe And Its Impact On The...
In July of 2015, Toshiba Corporation announced that an independent party had discovered that there
were accounting irregularities. Accounting irregularities sounds like a nice way to say, they have
uncovered fraud. In addition, Chief Executive Hisao Tanaka s accounting irregularities forced him to
resign. At the time of the initial announcement, the overstatement was thought to be around $3.2
billion in charges ( Toshiba s Accounting Probe, 2015, para. 1). How can this happen? The why and
how can usually be summed up to greed and poor ethics in the leadership and culture inside of these
large organizations. However, to help us understand the scale of this scandal, it is important to look at

By doing so, the seller can recognize some gain or loss related to a project in every accounting period
in which the project continues to be active. The method works best when it is reasonably possible to
estimate the stages of project completion on an ongoing basis or at least to estimate the remaining
costs to complete a project. (para.1) Already we start to see that this method in itself is not at fault, but
rather it creates an environment where people who have poor ethics can manipulate the system to
provide a more favorable outcome. On May 8, Toshiba announced it was expanding its investigation
and setting up a third party committee, canceled dividend payments and withdrew its earnings
forecast. ( Toshiba s Accounting Probe, 2015, para. 4). Again, to the outside observer who is paying
attention this does not sound good. Clearly the problem was well known and widespread throughout
the organization. On May 13th, Toshiba announces it is likely to take mark downs in operating profit
for three years through March of 2014 ( Toshiba s Accounting Probe , 2015, para. 5). On May 22nd,
Toshiba extends the investigation to three more business units (para. 7). This is the first indication that
it might be far more widespread for instances of improper accounting. The company reports that it

  • 2. Politics And Religion By Gerard Hauser Politics and religion have long been entangled in the United States. The United States has struggled with the question of how to maintain an appropriate combination of religion and politics in the public sphere for a long time. Gerard Hauser argues that public spheres are discursive spaces where society deliberates about normative standards and even develops new frameworks for expressing and evaluating social reality . Religion is part of the public sphere and has an influence in American political life in affairs such as leadership, legislation and voter partisanship. Religious rhetoric plays an important role in defining the boundaries of the political community and in setting the tone for political discourse. American democracy owes its birth to the influence of a specific form of Christianity: English Puritanism. The Pilgrims, laid the essential groundwork for America s experiment in self government. Religion was in fact the primary reason for the northern settler s immigration to the New World. These settlers known as Pilgrims because their journey had a religious purpose . They sought to build Puritan communities, to live in America in their manner and pray to God in freedom . The Pilgrims came to establish religious communities, but their beliefs called for such communities to be instituted and administered by the consent of the governed. (Holloway, Carson) As time went by, they began to constitute and frame laws, ordinances, acts and constitutions. Our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparison Of Crime And Victimless Crimes A broad range of crimes are committed in the United States, though the most publicized and often the most remembered are those committed against persons. While robberies or drug use may be recognized by some as major problems, it is often crimes such as assault, murder, or rape which stick in people s minds. Crimes against persons are a category of crime that consists of offenses that usually involve causing or attempting to cause bodily harm or a threat of bodily harm (study.com). Also considered to be crimes against persons are domestic violence, assault, and stalking. Needless to say, there are laws imposed against these crimes, and the penalties are often much more sever that with victimless crimes or property crimes. Interestingly, crimes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the same time, the law also increased funding for the FBI, DEA, INS, US Attorneys and other aspects of the Justice Department. Certain weapon bands are employed; the death penalty is expanded, creates new categories for certain offenses, and creates the three strikes rule (ncjrs.gov). Needless to say, this law has such a wide range of jurisdiction on all aspects of crime, and is widely influential on the handling of crimes against persons. I find the aforementioned Three Strikes Law to be especially impactful on crimes against persons, as the law essentially states that if you are convicted of three crimes considered to meet a certain degree of heinous, imprisonment for life is going to be the next punishment. Essentially, this law allows someone to go to prison for life based on the third offense, regardless of how minor this offense may be, if they have two prior convictions on serious crimes (law.stanford.edu). These laws have made huge progress in creating a sense of concern in potential criminals minds, knowing the punishments, and with the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, the expanded budgetary constraints allowed a much bigger ... • 4. Relationship Between Mpls And Ipv6 Relationship of SR with MPLS and Ipv6: The main differences from the IPv6 source route model are: The source route does not involve IP addresses; instead, the source route is encoded as an ordered list of segments. A segment can represent any instruction; either a service or a topology path. The path to an IP address is usually the shortest path to that addess. A segment on the other hand can represent any path. (e.g. an adjacency segment can force a packet to a next hop via a specific adjacency even if the shortest path does not use that adjacency). The edge routers (ingress and egress) are identified and are always available, thus permitting accounting and policy applications. The functionality of the source route cannot be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concept of indexed global segment is similar to the MPLS architecture as the absolute value allocated to any segment (can be global or local) can be managed by a local allocation process. This is similar to some MPLS signaling protocols. Labels in SR can be signaled by various protocols. Within a SR domain, the MPLS signaling protocols (like LDP and RSVP)are not required. If present, SR can coexist and interwork with LDP and RSVP. The source routing model offers the support for explicit routing capability. In contrast to RSVP based explicit routes hat consost of non ECMP circuits which is similar to ATM or FR, SR based explicit routes can be built as list of ECMP aware node segments and therefore ECMP aware traffic engineering is provided an in built by SR. When Segment Routing is instantiated over the MPLS data plane the following applies: A list of segments is represented as a stack of labels. The active segment is the top label. The CONTINUE operation is implemented as an MPLS swap operation. When the same SRGB block is used throughout the SR domain, the outgoing label value is equal to the incoming label value. Else, the outgoing label value is [SRGB(next_hop)+index]. The NEXT operation is implemented as an MPLS pop operation. The PUSH operation is implemented as an MPLS push of a label stack. In conclusion, there are no changes in the operations of the data plane ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Camera Techniques Used in Run Lola Run Run Lola Run is a film not based in a particular place or country, more of a cityscape, although some audience members may recognize the scenes as ones representing Berlin, Germany. Throughout the film Tom Tykwer the film s director, shows a wide variety of editing and camera techniques giving the film an alternative feel rather than a commercialised one. A few of Tykers many technques include close ups, establishing shots accompanied with a bird s eye view, flash backs, fast paced editing and to counter flashbacks the use of flash forwards. One particular scene uses close up to effectively show the emotions displayed on Mani and Lola s face. Mani portraying fear and anguish while Lola has a face of stress and her body language gives of the feel of her feeling responsible. This scene takes places as the start of the film and gives the story of the plot and an opening to the story. Close ups are used to get the audience s empathy or connection to the character. It gives a clear view of the emotions that are being depicted by both Lola and Mani. The first shot after the opening sequence was one of a bird s eye view, a bird s eye view shows a map like perspective building rooftops, bridges, roads and a canal. Tykwer sets the distant scene with this but does not need it to define a certain place, as the film needs no area to make it complete. It was used for only a short period of time and makes a good start for the next effect. To finish the bird s eye view it smoothly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The labours are treated as domestic animals as their working intensity is inconceivable that they worked with furious intensity, literally upon the run at a pace with which there is nothing to be compared except a football game. (chapter 3) The work almost deprived all of the energy of labours. The novel also reflects the brutal competition which is full of deceit and dishonesty. Many people choose to benumb themselves to be an alcoholic in order to avoid competition. For women who are lack of advantages for competition, prostitution and degeneration become the only way to survive. The poor are competing with each other for the sake of food and clothing, while politicians are bribing money from the poor for defeating their rivals, and the police, the judges keep wages of the workers for their own expense. The American society in the eyes of Sinclair hardly has charity, even if there have charity, goodwill always comes from the lower class and the poorest. How The Civil War Became A War To Free The Slaves When President Lincoln first called for troops to put down the confederate rebellion, he made no connection between this action and an attempt to end slavery. In fact, he explicitly stated the utmost care will be observed to avoid any devastation, any destruction of, or interference with, property... At this point, slavery was not yet integral to the struggle, it was much more important for the Union to air on the side of political prudence and avoid angering loyal boarder states. However, despite this lack of political dialogue, many abolitionists, slaves, and free blacks felt the war to preserve the union could also be a war to end slavery. Despite these misgivings, the Union policy of returning slaves who had not been employed by the Confederacy continued as the army moved through the boarder states. When they began to move deeper south, however, this policy became much more difficult to enforce. General Ambrose E. Burnside found this to be true after invading coastal North Carolina and finding virtually no loyal slaveholders but many slaves who seemed to be wild with excitement and delight. This, combined with ever increasing recognition of fugitive slave labors importance to the Union war effort, led Congress to declare in March 1892 that Union soldiers were forbidden to return fugitive slaves to their owners. Even with this change in policy, the federal government continued to overrule emancipation efforts as they attempted to retain the loyalty of slaveholding boarder states. When General David Hunter proclaimed freedom for all slaves in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, he was quickly overruled by President Lincoln. However, while Lincoln clearly stuck down General Hunter s proclamation, he also offered aid to the boarder states so they may adopt a gradual abolishment of slavery. • 12. Summary Of Pico Iyer s Where World Collide Imagine believing a fantasy only to be faced with a harsh reality. In Pico Iyer s Essay, Where World Collide, Iyer depicts multiple bustling scenes he witnesses at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Through his interactions, his observations of travelers at the airport, and his own perceptions based on his viewpoint as an immigrant traveling to a land often fantasized about, Iyer makes several assertions about Los Angeles. Through diction, juxtapositions, humor, and anecdotes in his essay, Iyer demonstrates that Los Angeles is not some wonderful fantasy that many believe it to be; but that it is instead representative of the cultural melting pot that is the world. Iyer begins the piece on a rather vague note. He introduces the essay in third person referring to they . Although this they is not revealed until further paragraphs, through his descriptions of places and concepts related to Los Angeles, such as the Dodgers, Disneyland, or airport shuttles, the reader soon can conclude that this they are travelers and they are at no other than LAX. Through his use of third person Iyer helps to show multiple perspectives of how coming to Los Angeles may be. In each of these perspectives he highlights the enthusiasm of these travelers thus helping to strengthen his assertion that to many newcomers, Los Angeles is often a fantasy. • 13. The Biblical Subtext in Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot... Samuel Beckett may have renounced the use of Christian motifs in Waiting for Godot, but looking at the character of Lucky proves otherwise. We can see Lucky as a representative figure of Christ as his actions in the play carry a sort of criticism of Christianity. His role suggests that the advantages of Christianity have declined to the point where they no longer help humanity at all. If you analyze the poem Waiting for Godot you can see the huge parallels between the character of Lucky and Jesus. Lucky, bound with a rope, is the disgraced prisoner, very similar to the story of Jesus as the prisoner of the Romans after Judas turned him in. Lucky slowly chokes as the rope cuts into his neck just as crucifixion suffocated Jesus until he was dead. Pozzo, rephrasing Estragon s question, then asks a emblematic question concerning Lucky, he asks Why he doesn t make himself comfortable? . This question refers specifically to the taunting spectators gave to Jesus, telling him to save himself and if he is the son of God to get himself off the cross, this also refers generally to Christ s mission of suffering on earth to forgive us of our sins. Pozzo tells them that Lucky doesn t want to let go of the luggage because He wants to mollify me, so that I will give up the idea of parting with him . He also says that Lucky imagines that when I see how well he carries I ll be tempted to keep him on in that capacity . This is extremely similar to the way that Jesus believed that he had to carry out his burden of crucifixion to awaken humanity s faith in God for time to come. Jesus directed his apostles to make disciples of all nations and to teach them to carry out everything I have commanded you. And always know that I am with you (Matthew 28:18 20). Jesus wanted us as humans to act in his own memory, or to keep himself on in that capacity, which was that of teacher, consoler, and in the end deliverer of salvation. • 16. Analysis Of Angela Carter s Post Modern Rendition, Tiger... When you think of the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast, what do you remember? In the typical plot of Beauty and the Beast, Beauty aids the Beast in his transformation from beast to man. The focus of the typical storyline is the battle between innate traits and characteristics accepted by society. However, in Angela Carter s post modern rendition, Tiger s Bride, not only does she shift the focus to explore the relationship between love and self acceptance, but she also changes the plot in efforts to make Beauty undergo a transformation. Through Carter s tone, exploration of power dynamics, and use of imagery, the story follows the progression of the love and self acceptance that influences Beauty s metamorphosis. Within the story, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the moment between Beauty and the Beast continues, she feels as if [she is] within the field of force of his golden eyes (81). This line signifies how much attraction lies between the two characters as Beauty feels that she s in the field of force , keeping her entranced with him. Consequently, each stroke of his tongue rip[s] off skin after successive skin (81), releasing Beauty from any remaining ties to society and allowing her to have freedom. By removing each layer of skin , the Beast ultimately unleashes Beauty s true identity, giving her the opportunity to fully accept herself without the pressure to conform by society. With Carter s use of tone, the audience gains the ability to explore how the love of the Beast causes Beauty to not only discover who she truly is, but also learn how to accept herself. Similarly, Carter explores the power dynamics between the Beast and Beauty, drawing attention to how outside forces allow a person to develop self acceptance. In the beginning, Carter introduces the audience to Beauty who has autonomy, yet still complies to societal norms. When she encounters the Beast after she s left in the castle alone, she decides that she will not smile (69) at him, simply because she does not want to. By choosing to not smile at the Beast, she defies the typical role of a female in a fairy tale. However, the influence of society still has an impact on her because when she ... Their research identified six types of the social media users and how they interact in the online environment. The Social Technographics ladder presented in Figure 3.3. of our reading depicts a ladder with different participation groups at each rung. These groups include: creators, conversationalists, critics, collectors, joiners, spectators, and inactives. It is worth noting that these groups are not exclusive, meaning a user could fit into multiple categories for different interactions (Tuten Solomon, 2013, p. 74). • 19. Analysis Of Sergei Prokofiev s Symphony Andrew Burden 4/24/16 Allison Smith (TA) Music 101 Sergei Prokofiev s Symphony No.1, Classical Symphony, a favorite to many, is a major piece of the orchestral repertoire. The piece was composed from 1916 to 1917 and was in a new genre; neo classism. This new genre was due the reaction to the expressionism and the perceived formlessness of the late romantic music during the time period (Whittall). In fact, the Classical Symphony is one of the earliest works of music using the aesthetic of the neo classical movement, and it is possibly the earliest symphony to do so (Green). Despite being written in the early 20th century during the midst of the Russian revolution, Prokfiev stayed true to the important aspects of pre romantic instrumentation and structural, harmonic, and melodic styles. As previously stated, the Classical Symphony was written in the midst of the Russian Revolutions in 1917. These revolutions were the cause of major turning points in Russian history and Prokofiev was stuck at the heart of it in Petrograd, the current day Saint Petersburg. Trouble during this period would begin with protests of thousands , escalating with food fights and fires until tsar Nicholas was abdicated (Nice, 130). During this chain of events, Prokofiev would find himself taking refuge from time to time behind projecting walls when the shooting became too intense (Nice, 130). With incremental budgeting, the budget used for the current fiscal year becomes the base for incremental distribution for the next fiscal year. Thus, this form of budgeting agrees to the statement of cutting coat according to cloth. • 23. Literary Style Of Mark Twain Mark Twain was the first major American writer to be born away from the East Coast in the border state of Missouri. His regional masterpieces were the memoir, Life on the Mississippi and the novels Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Twain s style influenced by journalism, wedded to the vernacular, direct and unadorned but also highly evocative and impudently humorous changed the way Americans write their language. His characters speak like real people and sound peculiarly American, using local dialects, newly invented words, and regional accents. Other writers interested in regional differences and language were George W. Cable, Thomas Nelson Page, Joel Chandler Harris, Mary Noailles Murfree (Charles Egbert Craddock), Sarah Orne Jewett, Mary E. Wilkins Freeman, Henry Cuyler Bunner, and William Sydney Porter (O. Henry). A version of local color regionalism that focused on minority experiences can be seen in the works of Charles W. Chesnutt (African American), of Maria Ruiz de Burton, one of the earliest Mexican American novelists to write in English, and in the Yiddish inflected works of Abraham Cohan. William Dean Howells also represented the realist tradition through his novels, including The Rise of Silas Lap ham and his work as editor of the Atlantic Monthly. It Was For Men First We usually associate jewelry with women particularly necklaces and bracelets. It is very likely however that men s jewelry existed before women began adorning themselves. Custom men s jewelry existed during the Stone Age over a thousand centuries ago; Ice Age hunters often wore necklaces made from the teeth, claws and/or bones of animals which they had killed for the tribe to eat. Among North American Indians, women s and men s jewelry served a dual purpose: dentalia, or wampum shells worn around the neck also served as currency. Today, palladium wedding bands are the latest thing in men s jewelry, but hardly the only thing. Men s watches (including dive watches for the undersea adventurer), movado gold watches and tungsten carbide wedding rings are just some of what is available. Such activities include physical supply, operations planning and control, and physical distribution. Other terms sometimes used in this area are business logistics and supply chain management. Often, the emphasis in business logistics is on transportation and distribution systems with little concern for what occurs in the factory. Distribution and operations are managed by planning and controlling the flow of materials through them and by using the system s resources to achieve a desired customer service level. • 32. Self-Control And Courage In The Spartan King... In Thucydides History, the Spartan king Archidamus outlines the values he idealizes in the Spartan soldiers, namely self control and discipline which in turn create shame and courage. These values are similar to those defined by Socrates as vital to the formation of virtuous guardians of kallipollis in Books 2 and 3 of The Republic. Socrates ideal values are courage, moderation and a sense of shame. Thus, since there are parallels in the values idealized by both Archidamus and Socrates, it is probable that both the Spartan soldiers and the guardians of kallipollis will resemble each other to an extent. Courage will be taught by censoring fearful stories of the Underworld and Hades so that the guardians will be fearless of death (Republic, 386b). Moderation and self control will be taught by removing stories of gods and heroes living in excess (Republic, 390a d) and of men lamenting (Republic, 388a d). The modes and rhythms should follow similarly, culminating in an education of music and poetry that teaches these ideals of courage and moderation. Physical training must be simple as a good soul that is trained in music and poetry will produce a good body (Republic, 403d). This combined with the practice of moderation and self control in food and drink (Republic, 404c) will create the physical aptitude needed to guard the city and fight wars. Socrates ends his dialogue about the guardians education by emphasizing the importance of the harmony of education in music and poetry and physical training in making the soul moderate and courageous (Republic, 410d e). Socrates wants the guardians to embody goodness and for goodness to become a natural instinct and inclination. This is then the development of a sense of shame. Guardians who are raised in this manner will feel a strong sense of shame when confronted by ideals that are opposite to their nature such as cowardice and licentiousness. Thus, it is evident that purifying these stories and correct physical training will teach the guardians courage, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A breeding pair is defined as an adult male and female wolf raising two or more pups in a year, where the pups are born between April and May and then raised till December 31. With the reintroduction of the gray wolf, a recovery population goal had to be established. That was the goal of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) for the recovery of the wolf population for the northern Rocky Mountains. Wolf numbers needed to be maintained at this level for at least three consecutive years. However, most economists can agree that the bursting of the U.S housing bubble, irresponsibility practiced by regulators and financiers, greed of banks, lack of leadership from central banks, complex chains of debt, and the credit crunch led to what is referred to as the largest crisis since the Great Depression. The collapse of the housing bubble, which peaked in 2004, in the United States is usually cited as the initial trigger of the crisis. Real estate prices also plummeted, and interest rates rose sharply from 1% to 5.35%. In addition, homeowners that were barely able to afford mortgage payments while interest rates were low were suddenly slapped in the face with the hike in interest rates, which also caused them to default on their mortgages. This phenomenon, dubbed the foreclosure epidemic , drained wealth from other consumers and weakened the financial strength of banks. Banks and investors that had borrowed and invested heavily in subprime mortgage backed securities also incurred significant amounts of debt or losses with the burst of the housing bubble, adding to the severity with which the collapse of this credit driven bubble affected the world economy. Both of the main characters accept their fate, but there is a huge difference in how they accept their fates. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern do a coin toss and coin lands heads 156 times in a row. Rosencrantz doesn t question this and just blindly accepts it. The characters have no wit and just think everything is controlled by fate. On the other hand, Hamlet analyzes what his fate is and actually understands his fate. He understands his duty towards his family, and does not happily accept his fate, but yet he accepts it. He questions what the ghost tells him to do. He questions validity of the ghost s statement by putting Claudius in that mousetrap. After he finds out the ghost was speaking the truth, he then accepts his fate. In Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, the theme of fate vs. free will is incorporated from Shakespeare s of Hamlet. The school philosophy is to believe that the students need to be engaged to be deeply successful in their learning. They believe that the students will be successful by persisting studying, overcoming obstacles, and delighting in accomplishing their work. I began to be a volunteer to read mandarin stories to students in mandarin grades three and four in Dovercourt School in Oct 14 and Oct 16. On the one hand, I believe that volunteering activity can create my credibility, build self confidence, develop self awareness, and share the vision. On the other hand, the motivation behind volunteer activity will benefit for those students who need help improve their mandarin knowledge. I How was this activity chosen? When I picked the volunteer project, I have been the volunteer in my son s school for several years. I like to be a volunteer to participate the activity with kids since they are so creative and lovely. Furthermore, the most important point is that I would like to observe my son s development closely. • 41. The Bands And Music Groups That Are Popular Today Introduction: Look at the bands and music groups that are popular today. They use many different instruments to create the songs they present to us. A common instrument they tend to use is the guitar. Whether it is acoustic or electric, the guitar can be used in various styles of music such as rock, pop, or country, presenting it s ability to adapt and change the different forms, creating perfect harmonies. Although, it is a well known instrument around the world, people do not appreciate the time and effort it takes to create such an incredible instrument. We tend to applaud the people that play it well, but what about those who create it? What about the people behind the creation of the guitars we play? There is a lot that goes into making such a magnificent instrument. While there is a lot of woodwork and craftsmanship needed, putting the parts together without a mistake, people don t realize that there is a lot of math that goes into creating a guitar. By combining the fields of mathematics and musical theory, a craftsman can produce a guitar of great quality. To understand this complex interplay, we must understand: the relationship between frequency of sound waves and the pitch of musical notes the body of a guitar as an acoustic resonator Pythagorean tuning and the diatonic scale the Western chromatic scale as a group of 12 elements closed under transposition in a specific system of tuning how to place frets on a guitar using either a mathematical idea ... Frankenstein Essay Compare Shelley s Presentation of Women in Frankenstein with that of Brave New World Throughout the novel, Frankenstein, a feminist theme subtly pervades the novel, and is crucial to the characters of the story, the plot line and the setting of the novel. The reasons for the creation of the monster lie within Frankenstein s own familial relationships, especially with the grief he experienced at the loss of his mother. Frankenstein is riddled with passive female characters who suffer throughout the novel. However, not one female character throughout the novel ever exhibits behaviour outside of the submissive female role. The portrayal of male superiority is uniform throughout the novel, and starts by introducing that overall dominance with the tour of the Hatchery. All the students on the tour are male and although maybe a minor detail, this shows that women are restricted to the things they do at an early age. During the tour, the students learn about pregnancies and that women are sterilised, yet the men aren t. This short and important fact by the author exclaims the physiological dominance of men over women. The book shows no clear objection to leaving the future of their offspring in the hands of males, even if it is unhealthy. A specific character to talk about in Brave New World is Linda. Linda is the character in the novel who opposes the traditional role of women in the book (and that of women in Frankenstein). Like in a lot of Huxley s pieces, this novel centres heavily around sex. In Brave New World, sex is no longer used for procreation but for distraction and pacification. The act has been dehumanised and devoid of human passion. I feel in this, Huxley tries to argue whether the future of our lifestyle is a subjugation of a natural inclination toward monogamy or the freedom of sleeping with many people. Linda is portrayed as the person opposing to modern culture, and causes the reader to question whether Huxley s portrayal of women in Brave New World is apt. For her opposition to the modern ... The second engages William in a taxi cab conversation that shuffles his priorities and forces him to confront his problem. Though he s able to think creatively and enjoy certain freedoms that other jobs don t offer, it restricts the time he has with his family by requires him to fly all over the country. And as he notes that his wife s always waiting for William to call while on the road, his taxi arrives and William embarks on the second part of the story. • 46. The Superheroes Of The Comics Once disregarded, comic books have been progressively paving a way to the future without sexism and racism in a time when they are becoming increasingly impactful to young adults. In 1938 Superman debuted and began the future of comic books, creating the two most influential publishers (Adkins). In 1940 Fantomah was introduced as the first female superhero character, though she remained a less popular character in the industry. It wasn t until the early 1960 s that Wonder Woman was created, and she became one of the most well known female heroes among the genres. Since then, more and more women have been depicted as heroes, mostly female versions of themselves. With racism and sexism still a common problem in society, Marvel was the first to announce that they would replace a major male hero completely with a female that has her own origin story, as well as sticking with comics and allowing Falcon, an African American superhero, to take the place of Captain America. Though resulting in mixed reviews, this step has been seen as a dive into the right direction for equality in the comic book industry. For feminism in comic books, it seems they are being pushed in the right directions with two major heroines taking the big screen in their own shows. Stress and Perfectionism in Academic Achievement Between Blue Ribbon Schools vs. Non blue Ribbon Schools Erin Altenberger Northern Kentucky University Abstract Stress and Perfectionism in Academic Achievement Between Blue Ribbon Schools vs. Non blue Ribbon Schools Damian, Stoeber, Negru, and Baban (2014), describes perfectionism as endeavoring for flawlessness and setting extremely high standards for oneself. There is not just one type of perfectionism; there are in fact three different categories of perfectionism. The three categories included self oriented, other oriented, and socially prescribed perfectionism. Self oriented perfectionism refers to an individual that sets and seeks high standards of performance for themselves (Chang, 2006). Chang (2006) describes other oriented perfectionism as an individual that assumes that others should be perfect in their actions. Socially prescribed perfectionism refers to an individual that believes that those around them anticipate perfectionism from him or her (Chang, 2006). With what we know about perfectionism and the potential distress it may cause, one can consider that stress could be a component with perfectionism.
