Renaissance Era Addiction
The Renaissance Era was the period immediately following the Middle Ages. The Renaissance Era
brought back an interest in classical learning and values of ancient Greece and Rome. While the
Renaissance brought back classical learning and values, it brought with it addition. Addiction is
described as a compulsive need for and use of a habit forming substance characterized by tolerance
and by well defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal. (https://www.merriam webster.com
/dictionary/addiction) One drug that caused addiction during the RenaissanceEra was opium.
Another cause of addiction during the Renaissance Era is the lead based make up. Lastly,
alcoholism was another source of addiction that plagued the people of the Renaissance Era. This
essay will be used to discuss how these addictions began, their probable outcome, health issues
related to these addictions, and how we treat these addictions today. First, the origin of Opium
within the Renaissance Era will be discussed. Opium poppy spread from its original homeland
somewhere between the Western Mediterranean and Asia Minor into southern Europein Neolithic
times and spread across the Middle East and Asia. Arabs were the main traders of opium on global
trade routes and within the eastern Mediterranean until Venice rose as the premier Mediterranean
commercial hub by the 13th/14th centuries, and with it took over the trade in what was at this time
still a wholly legal substance, largely used as a

Octavian traps the Queen of Egypt within her own city. Cleopatra threatens suicide if Octavian
does not free her son. For the second time, Cleopatra loses her lover; Anthony killed himself in
battle after losing the war against Octavian. Once Octavian arrives in Egypt, he demands that
Cleopatra joins to be his prisoner in Rome. In Cleopatra fashion, she refuses and demands that her
son to be allowed to rule Egypt. Of course, Octavian does not agree with these. Shortly after their
conversation, Cleopatra sends her son to India for his safety. Along with her handmaidens in her

David Persuasive Speech
Many years ago during biblical times the Philistine lined up to fight Israel. A man standing over
nine feet tall dressed in full armor came out of his camp every day to find a challenger. For forty
days there was no one willing to challenge Goliath until David volunteered. David was a young
teenager who wasn t even a part of the war, but was delivering stuff to his brothers, so it took
some convincing to the king to let him be the challenger. In 1 Samuel 17 more of the story is told.
45 Davidsaid to the Philistine, You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I
come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you
have defied. 46 This day the LORD will deliver you into my hands, and I ll... Show more content on

Placed at his right leg there is a tree trunk. In the book that is used in the art history class 121 on
page 288 it states that the tree trunk supporting the David is a reminder of the Ancient Roman
copies of Greek statuary and evokes the classical past . One thing that stands out about
Michelangelo s sculpture compared to someone s like Donatello s is how masculine the statue is,
and the moment that the statue was presented to be at. The statue is in a pose that is represented to
be right before the moment of the battle.
The statue of David is looking over his left shoulder with a very intense stare look in his eyes. He
is starting to prepare for what could be the biggest moment of his life, life or death is looking at
him in the face. The very intense look in his face is not presented throughout his body, and this is
symbolizing that he is not physically focused, but mentally. David knew that without God on his
side he could not take this man on, he was bigger and stronger. He needed to have all the faith in
the world to trust that God would deliver Goliath into his

The Characteristics Of Tropical Rainfocosystems
Tropical Rainforest If I were to travel anywhere in the world, I would choose to go somewhere
tropical. Not necessarily a beach but more like a tropical rainforest. My reasoning is that there
are so many different things that go into the functioning of a tropical rainforest, and there are still
plants and animals that haven t even been discovered yet. As this ecosystem is one of the oldest
ecosystems in the world many can believe this to be true. Although there may be some plants and
animals that have not been discovered, tropical rainforests hold the largest variety of plants and
animals on Earth. Tropical rainforests have many plants and animals in them, and in order for this
ecosystem all of these organisms need to work together to survive together. An ecosystem this
large and so diverse, organisms need to be able to adapt so they can survive. As many people
know, tropical rainforests usually have very large tall trees. This is because the foliage is in
competition with each other, trying to get the most sun light. With rainforestonly covering about 6%
of the Earths land, they account for around 40% of the oxygen on Earth. Many animals have
adapted as well, many monkeys have prehensile tails that are strong enough to swing from branches
and even hang on. While some organisms compete, many others have symbiotic relationship. The
acacia tree provides the Azteca ant with shelter, water, and even food while the ant protects the
acacia tree from other

Narrative Voice In The Subway Poem
The narrative voice suggests that their mirth derives in part from their freedom to transgress
differences such as those between the segregated communities that characterize much of the city.
The protagonists hope is infectious, but the narrative voice, reflecting on the thoughts of other
passengers in the subway, remains aware of the risks of their self proclaimed freedom, casting
doubts on their futures. Their laughter leads to jealousy in the other passengers as they think back
to their own youths and the privileges they have lacked. The narrator imagines another rider
thinking of these characters as free loaders (4); this rider is reassured by thinking that life will get
them hard some time (4). Such doubts resurface continually in

The Cold War Was Predominately Between Two Major Powers
The Cold War was predominately between two major powers in the world. These two super
powers were the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) and the United States beginning in
1947. The Cold War happened relatively soon after the Second World War. Why did the Cold
War begin? In 1947, the Cold War began and it was due to various reasons. Some historians
believed that the bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused the Cold War. In
addition, the United States president during 1945 (Harry S. Truman) had a strong dislike for
communism and the leader of the USSR (Stalin) at the time. Another main reason, the Cold War
began was because of USSR s expansion in Eastern Europe. Overall, the Cold War began due to the

Not only did Truman s dislike for Stalin cause the Cold War but also Soviet Unionexpansion was a
leading cause of the start of the Cold War. In the Second World War, Germans invaded the
Soviets. During the Second World War, approximately 25.3 million people living in the USSR
died from the German army. 3 All of these deaths, during the Second World War, concerned the
USSR. The USSR wanted to expand westward because they wanted to create a buffer zone
between Soviet Union as a way to protect themselves from future invasions. When the Second
World War ended, the USSR still had troops in Eastern Europe this allowed the USSR to help the
communist parties rise to power thus assimilating them into the Soviet Union Army.4 This buffer
zone was later be known as the Iron Curtain (Soviet Army). Due to the Russians imperializing more
countries and turning them into communist countries, it caused hostility and concern among the
Western European powers. However, countries in Western Europe did not take any action to stop
the Soviets because they were afraid of war until the US intervened in 1946.4 Roosevelt told his
advisors, The Russians only understand one language how many armies have you got? I m tired of
babying the Soviets . 9 He wanted to halt communism from growing by stopping Soviets from
taking over more countries. A major country, Truman was worried about the Soviet Union taking
over was Iran. During the Second World War, the Iranian government enlisted

Although a consultant was brought in, during the interviews the situation got even worse.
Important negotiations about the JV did not advance. The four key central points on which the
problem is based were the following: Firstly, in Mr. Meier`s view the negotiations just did not
advance. Secondly, Mr. Meier thought the negotiations were not being conducted effectively.
Thirdly, the Headquarter in Germany puts a lot of pressure on Mr. Meier to get it done very
quickly. And finally Mr. Meier was angry with Mr. Wang and screamed at him that he was no
longer prepared to be kept waiting. 3 Analysis and solutions of the case 3.1 Problems and
underlying cultural differences Concerning the interviews there seem to be a number of cultural
differences. The first key issue is Responsibility. While the German Manager Mr. Meier thinks that
the Chinese don t take responsibility, the Chinese Manager Mr. Wang doesn t feel they are given

Significance and Impact of the Emancipation Proclamation
Abraham Lincoln once said, A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this
government cannot endure permanently half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to
be dissolved I do not expect the house to fall but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will
become all one thing or all the other. (Lincoln s House Divided Speech in Springfield, Illinois,
June 16, 1858). The critical issue of slavery throughout the 19th century in America, was a heavily
debated topic. Due to this disagreement of the bondage of slaves, America was split into two
distinct entities, the Union and the Confederacy. Both of these bodies of states struggled over the
idea of slavery, and whether or not it should be enforced, but both for different reasons. In the
North, or the Union States, slavery was looked down upon being morally wrong, while on the other
hand, the Southerners, or the Confederate States, believed the exact opposite. In the year of 1863,
the issue of slavery would start to diminish due to a very important proclamation issued by
President Abraham Lincoln. This prominent decree, the Emancipation Proclamation, would settle
the heated dispute between the Union and the Confederacy for all years to come. Although not one
slave was initially freed by the Emancipation Proclamation in the Southern states, the deeper
symbolic meaning of the manifesto

How Failure Has Changed Over The Centries
The way in which failure has been viewed has changed over the centries. As early as ancient
Athens, we have seen records of how failure is seen from time to time and society to society. Just
them as a comparative to our society recognizes the cultural difference as well as the time gap
between how we perceive defeat. For instance, Athens used plays to communicate that failing at
something was okay and that we needed to show sympathy and helpfulness to those going through
a rough time. Whereas today, as seen in many cases, dropping out of something, or even not
succeeding is failure; you must do well in something to be respected. In the three sources
presented, recordly, this is the case. Each source reviewed and discussed the art of failing as
something more than just one mistake, that it is many complied onto each other causing, as we see
it, catastrophe. In all three sources, they discusses successand failure seen in today s society, which
were then analyzed through agreement/overlap and disagreement.
To begin, all three sources overlap/agree with the same message, that failure is common, but not
accepted. They all suggest that we should learn to become acquainted with it. The more you
recognize what you re not good at and fix it (whether it be dropping it or applying a method) the
faster you can find things you are good at. And, they all state this with reason to support the chance
that appears. For instance, in Outliers, Gladwell explains the chance of a plane crash.

The Controversy Of Organ Donation In China
Lawmakers should pass a motion urging China to immediately put a stop on the alleged forced
organ harvesting of Christian prisoners, according to two Canadian lawyers who brought the claims
to Australia s Parliament House.
On Monday, human rights lawyer David Matas and former prosecutor David Kilgour came to
Australia s House of Parliament claiming to have evidence of China performing between 60,000
and 100,000 organ transplants every year. The Canadian lawyers say the only plausible explanation
for the source of the harvested organs is the killing of Christians, Muslim Uighurs, Tibetan
Buddhist, and Falun gong practitioners, The Associated Press (AP) relays.
However, Matas and Kilgour did not present proof of the alleged organ sourcing. This is not the
first time that such claims have been made, but the opacity of China s legal system does not allow
much room for independent verification of the said issue. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This was a semester long project where we had to interview several children and do a number of
tasks and tests to evaluate their levels of development.
The last Piagetian task that Child 2 participated in was the moral task. It was very typical for him
to have answered in a premoral mindset this task because his age places him in Piaget s
heteronomous stage. In this stage which starts right around four years of age, according to Piaget,
children understand rules as the almighty, unchangeable laws of nature. They base most decisions
on punishment and not on intentions. (Artifact #4, Interview Final Paper, PSY 370)
This piece shows a greater development in writing pattern, as well as word choice and synthesis.
The differences in my refection and comparison between the children in this project show a level
of cognitive development and maturation that is not present at the beginning of my college
career. The use of text information in this segment is used in a constructive way, explaining to the
reader as if this was the first introduction to the topic they had experienced. Giving the typical or

DIVERSITY of LIVING THINGS

Have you ever owned a dog? No? Well you have no doubt seen plenty of dogs before. Have you
ever seen a wolf? Unlikely, but you must have at least seen pictures on what wolves look like. You
must have also noticed that though you could differentiate dogs from wolves, there were other little
(and sometimes not so little) similarities between the two animals. These similarities include height,
facial structure, and even behavioral tendencies. That is because both animals belong to the same
genus but different species, each one similar and yet still different from the other. What sets apart
each species from others in its genus? What relates each of them to the other? These questions are

The Concept Of Employee Empowerment Essay
1.0Literature Review
The concept of employee empowerment has been discussed a lot in many academic studies and in
the field of management profession for over decades. In fact, some organizations consider the idea
of empowerment as the optimum strategy in order to have the competitive benefits in the world of
professional business practices (Ghosh, 2013).
Researchers have proven that employee empowerment, which can be called the voice of employees
and participation, has a significant impact on individuals and groups on particular as well as on
organizational efficiency in general (Conger and Kanungo, 1988). In addition, there are many
practices of leadership, such as delegation, developmental leadership, and empowering leadership,
suggest that the high management of the organization share the authority in order to promote the
advantages of enforcing employee empowerment that can raise the level of employees productivity
and positivity in the work environment (Chen, Zhang, and Wang, 2014). According to ( ), the level
of empowerment and the level of participation are vital components of the successful processes in
any professional environment.
However, it is essential to introduce the concept behind employee empowerment idea as well as to
identify the detailed meaning of employee empowerment before we dive deeper in the main
purpose of this study. In addition, providing the main components of employee empowerment can

Act Of Thecla Essay
The Acts of Thecla describes Thecla s trials and journey as she becomes Christian; this was written
by the author as a way of emphasizing the importance of women s roles in Christianity. Compared
to the other women protagonists that were read about in class, Penthesileia and Judith, Thecla is
passive for a heroine. The author of The Acts of Thecla has a contrasting view of women in
Christianity when compared to other Christians in the first two centuries of the Common Era.
Having a femaleprotagonist is important to The Acts of Thecla because the trials she faced were
specific to her role as a female. Thecla is sentenced to be burned at the stake after refusing to
marry Thamyris. Refusing to get to married to your betrothed was seen as breaking a contract.
When Thecla is on the pyre being prepared to burn she sees something. And looking over the
crowd, she saw the Lord sitting in the form of Paul and said, As if I were not able to bear up, Paul
has come to look after me. And she looks intently at him, by he took off into the heavens. ... Show

And when she had given this witness she headed off to Seleucia, and after enlightening many

to preach the word of God. Instead it ends with her having reached the end of her life never
breaking her celibacy and preaching the word of God. This gives an insight into the author s mind
and that they believed women had a role as missionaries in Christianity. This view is different from
the majority of Christians during the Common Era. Let women learn in silence with full

The Film Gangs Of New York
The film Gangs of New York, highlighted the facets of many different gangs; the most important
being the Natives and the Dead Rabbits. Both gangs vied for power over the region called the
Five Points during the Civil War time period. Within the film there were many different examples
of social stratification like class privilege, status, and power. The examples of stratification were
shown by both gangs and the individuals that the gangs were compromised of. The purpose of this
paper is to analyze these examples of social classand privilege, status, parties, and power, as
described by Max Weber, and how they exemplified in the film Gangs of New York. The
examples of stratification in the film similar to that of Weber s will show that the Gangs of New
York represent the strife and problems that come with a person s class, status, and party.
In Class, Status, Party, by Max Weber, Weber defines a class as any group of people that happen
to be facing the same class situations, or problems (Weber). Both of the two main gangs in the
film, the Natives, formally known as the Native Americans, and the Dead Rabbits, which is
compromised of the Irish Immigrants, were mostly a part of the same social class. There are
many different ways that classes in society can be stratified other than by just the basic three,
upper class, middle class, and the poor (Rothman). The characters in the Gangs of New York
mostly belong to the working poor or unemployed caste, because they have

Physical Body And Genitali The Biological Perspective
Compare and Contrast Essay
Biological Perspective: The biological perspective posits the idea that one s biological makeup is
responsible for determining one s gender. The idea is that a physical body and genitalia is what
mandates the person s gender. Some researchers have suggested that on top of this biological
determinism, genes pass on gender stereotypes like an increased ability for math in people
biologically assigned male and maternal instincts in people assigned female at birth. Others have
suggested that evolution has cemented men and women s roles in society because it always was
that way. A simplistic explanation of chromosomes states that those with Y chromosomes are male
and those without are female but as we know, it s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In general, once these intersex individuals are identified, corrective surgery is suggested to
reassign the child within the traditional gender binary so that their gender identity will match
expectations. Some scientists have suggested that gender identity is permeable within the first 18
months so that the intersexuality of their bodies can be addressed, while others suggest that
identity is fluid throughout childhood until puberty, when the body changes caused will cement
their gender identity. The process of acquiring a gender identity is simple within this framework.
Because it is solely focused on biology, the identity is assigned based on which side of the gender
binary it is closest to and that is all the nuance available. Later perspectives take this and define it
as the biological sex, which they then separate from gender. However, this process is similar
throughout all the perspectives for people who are cisgender, because they have no need for the
further nuance that other perspectives can provide.
Psychological Perspective
Freud believed that gender identity was built from our interactions and learned from our
environment, but was informed by our biological makeup. His theory of gender identity
development is constructed in stages as the child grows older, first the oral stage, then the anal
stage, then the critical stage in which the child s gender identity is constructed called the genital
stage. The genital stage requires

1960s Counterculture Movement
The Time of Rebirth: Counterculture Movements Woodstock, psychedelics, and Rock n Roll were
all a major point in the 1960s counterculture movement. Many icons like Janis Joplin rose to their
fame during this era. The hippie movement, even 60 years later, is a major landmark in history and

Why Do Catalans Have Their American Culture
Another aspect that needs to be known in order to understand the reasons why Catalans pursue
independence from Spain are their cultural characteristics. Catalan people have many distinct
cultural traits that difference them from the Spanish culture. The main aspects are exposed below
to help realize how Catalans have their own culture.
Language
Language is probably one of the most important characteristics traits for the Catalan people.
Throughout the history, they have had to fight periods when the Catalan language was strictly
prohibited. As mentioned earlier in this report, people were not allowed to speak it, they were not
allowed to teach it in the schools, and they were not even allowed to give their children Catalan
names. Even though it was prohibited, many Catalans that were in the exile continued to write
books in Catalan, risking their life, to ensure that the language was not forgotten. This just makes it
one of the reason why Catalan people are very proud of their language, and think it is one of their
most characteristic cultural traits. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a form of Vulgar Latin spoken by the people living in the Pyrenees Mountains. Throughout
the year, Catalan spread southward along the Mediterranean coast. Catalan became a recognized
official linguistic identity by the 11th century, when many legal, religious, and philosophical
documents were in Catalan (Ottenbreit, n.d.).
As mentioned earlier, during Franco s dictatorship, Catalan was banned with very strict penalties
if used for both public and private use. However, once democracy was established again in the
country, Catalan went back to be the co official language along with Spanish. Nowadays, there is
approximately 9.5 million Catalan speakers, and about 4.2 million are native speakers, which
makes Catalan be the second most commonly spoken native language in Spain, after Spanish.

Essay on With the Old Breed Book Report
With The Old Breed begins with the start of the author s military career. Eugene Sledge was a
freshman at Marion Military institute, his family pushing for him to eventually become an officer
in the United States Army. But the authors desire to serve his country in battle with the enemy
before the war was over was strong enough to make him end his college career and begin anew in
the MarineCorps. Already while reading this book I felt closer and more understanding of the,
because I too left college in the fear that if I didn t join now, I would never have another chance to
serve my country. Eugene sledge started school at Georgia Tech to eventually become an Officer.

It is here that he learns the true chaos, confusion, and terror of war. His experiences from this
point on in the book are something that members of any branch of service can learn from when
seeking knowledge on what war is like, especially during the pacific campaign. Sledge and his
company spends three days on Peleliu before they are relieved and sent to another island, but
during these three days he witnesses the first aspects of war. On one occasion he witnessed a
Marine kill another Marine at night after the Japanese broke through their lines. I think that this is
something that unfortunately happens more often than it should on the battlefield, both in the past
and modern day. Situations like that can only be avoided through a more constant focus on the
situation and situational awareness. Eugene Sledge is greatly disturbed by this event and it causes
him to realize the waste and cruelty of war. Although perceived by the author as a terrible thing,
the Pacific Campaign showed Eugene Sledge several things a normal man usually wouldn t notice.
Throughout the book marines are seen on litter duty; volunteering to run into the midst battle with
a stretcher to carry out dead or wounded Marines. This mindset of never leaving someone behind
is still taught today. What it comes down to at its basic level is the love and loyalty that brothers in
arms share with one another. Examples of such selflessness can be seen today still, with the

C. S. Lewis The Chronicles Of Narnia
You may know C.S. Lewis for writing the Chronicles of Narnia, but he was known for a variety
of more things. He was known for writing novels, essays, critical commentary, autobiographies,
poems, short stories, and he was also a diarist ( World 2075). He would write about what he was
going through of something based on what he believed. C.S. Lewis was a great author because
he wrote from the heart and about things that impacted him the most. C.S. Lewis had a
challenging childhood, but I believe that helped shape him as an author and a person. He was
born on November twenty ninth, eighteen ninety eight in Belfast, Ireland (MacNee 252). His
Father was a solicitor and his mother was a daughter of a clergyman (MacNee 252). Lewis s
mother was diagnosed with cancer when he was only nine years old (MacNee 252). After his
mother s death, his father distanced away from C.S. Lewis and his older brother, Warren... Show

Lewis wrote quite a few books and letters, but you probably know him best for writing the
Chronicles of Narnia. Lewis said that he believed that his imaginative self inspired the series
(MacNee 255). Many people told Lewis not to write the Narnia series because it would ruin his
reputation, but he wrote the children s book anyway (Imbornoni 2). Throughout the series there
are many biblical references which makes sense because Lewis believed in the bible. One of the
references he put in there was Aslan (a lion) which represented God. Another success of C.S.
Lewis was The Screwtape Letters. They were his first Christian success (MacNee 255). In an
interview in 1963 he said that the Screwtape letters was the only one of all his books that he didn

series is about notes from a senior devil to a junior tempter (MacNee 255). Lewis even considered

Steroids in Baseball The game of Baseball is an American pastime. During the late 19th century
and early 20th century it was the most widely played sport in the country. Baseball back then
was what video games and televisions is to us now. Throughout the years baseball has changed
in some good ways and in some bad ways. The integrity of the game has been changed in a bad
way by steroids. Steroids is what makes the game today so much different than it was back then.

Not only are these players, who use steroids and get caught , not able to play the game they love,
but will lose out on a lot of money that they could be making during the games that they miss. Alex
Rodriguez is a great example of financial punishment for steroid use. The suspension would be the
longest non lifetime ban in Major league history and would cost Mr. Rodriguez more than 31
million in loss salary (Costa,Brian). The MLB has announced that it is going to enhance its testing
policy and its punishments for using steroids or any other performance enhancing drugs. The
enhanced testing procedure will include a lot more random in season tests. The number of urine
tests will more than double. In the enhanced punishments there are at most three violations. A first
time violation at the joint drug program will now result in an unpaid 80 game suspension,
increased from 50 games. (Calcaterra,Craig). The second violation will result in an unpaid 162
game suspension rather than a 100 game. The third and final violation will result in a permanent
suspension from baseball. Players want a fair and clean game, that is why they pushed for better
testing and a lot more testing. The MLB commissioner, Bud Selig, was very pleased when the
players pushed for stricter policies. Baseball has had its fair share of scandals. For example,
baseballs first commissioner, Kennesaw Landis, was brought on to deal with the Black Sox scandal.

Bread Givers And The Adventures Of Huckleberry
Throughout a typical story or novel, a character often changes themselves after an adventure or
conflict. They may change themselves through a variety of ways, like changing their own beliefs,
or changing their financial or social status. This can be applied in two popular classics, Bread
Givers and The Adventures of Huckleberry . Throughout the story, the protagonists managed to
reform themselves after a course of events, even though they did keep some aspects of themselves.
For Sara, enforcing her own beliefs over her father s orthodox tradition allowed her to educate
herself and be financially independent. Meanwhile, Huck managed to reinvent himself by
developing a conscience. In both books, the main characters managed to reinvent... Show more

Now that there is an established definition within context, parts of Bread Giver s will be pointed
out to display how Sara Smolinsky s actions show her reinventing herself. In Bread Giver s , Sara
Smolinsky transitioned from being financially dependent and bound to her father, to a person
who was able to make vital decisions without heavy external influences, like her father s cultural
values. In the beginning, Sara was not able to make her own choices. A good example of this is
when Sara trusts a customer to pay her back later, but the father frowns on Sara trusting a
customer to pay back two cents. He implies her dependence to him by stating Without asking
me? I m the one to decide who is to be trusted (Yezierska 134). The quote emphasizes the Father s
authority over Sara, as well as her dependence on him. To further explain, when he says the
phrase: I m the one to decide ... he clearly states that it was him that makes any choices in the
store, rather than Sara. A smaller, but significant example of Sara being financially dependent on
her father is when her father doesn t give Sara her earned money for herself. Sara states And yet,
when I d bring home the wages to Father, he d never let me have money to buy something I
needed (Yezierska 89). The significance of this quote can be found after a couple of paragraphs
after, where the father refuses to buy a coat for her daughter, even though the weather was freezing
cold.

In Herzberg s Motivation Hygiene theory led to development of extensive lists of these motivator
and hygiene factor (Miller 2006). According to Miller (2006), the category of motivator factors is
responsibility, achievement, recognition, challenging work and advancement in the organisation.
The category of hygiene factors are physical working conditions, salary, benefits, company policy
and the technical quality of supervision (Miller 2006). Herzberg believes that the absence of
these factors will lead to unhappiness and dissatisfaction. Effective job performance is highly
dependent on the adequacy and balance of both motivator and hygiene factors. A US retailer,

in higher profitability for the organisation in the long run (Leberecht 2010).
The fact that human relation approaches can really enhance the performance control for an
organisation is undisputable however it will bring some negative impacts to an organisation at the
same time. Human relations theories revolve broadly around fulfilling employees needs as an
individual in correlation to their job performance. Therefore, individualism could also indirectly

Hate Speech Argumentative Essay
Hate speech is speech that is intended to degrade, intimidate, or inflect violence or prejudicial
action against someone based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, or
based on a disability. Hate speech now includes messages of gender, sexual orientation, religious
views, and physical and mental inferiority as well.
Hate speech can be harmful when it is applied and plays a critical role in acts of violence and
discrimination against a targeted population. Another way hate speech can be harm fun is when the
harmfulness of hate speech is understood turns not so much on the ability to act violently, but the
view that such words are basically harmful to those who are targeted. This shows the pattern of
abuse that is caused when abusive speech is directed to a particular target. Hate speech becomes a
hate crime in the United States when the speech contains serious and imminent threat of violence.
The violent would need to be against a person or groups of people to commit specific criminal acts

Compare And Contrast Nothing Gold Can Stay And The Outsiders
Imagine being separated into two different groups based on what side of town one lives on and

In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, there are two groups, Socs and the Greasers, they have
a rivalry with each other; the Greasers are known for having bad reputations that will never go
anywhere in life and are poor, while the Socs can be disrespectful to the community, but an asset to
the community the next day, and with a lot of money. In the novel, S.E. Hinton includes Robert
Frost s poem Nothing Gold Can Stay to focus on the poem s deeper meaning. When examining
Robert Frost s Nothing Gold Can Stay and S.E. Hinton s The Outsiders, one can analyze the usage
of color, lost of innocence, and identity change. To begin with, the use of color in both the poem
and the novel has a deeper meaning than just what colors turn into other colors. In the poem, the
colors are more than just the different color cycle plants go through. The changing of colors
during season changing also means the passing of life and how everyone s growing up through
the different stages of winter, spring, summer, and autumn. In autumn one is a baby, in the winter
one is six or seven in the spring one is twelve or thirteen, in the summer one is seventeen or

Theme Of Hesitancy In Hamlet
Rebecca Kallios
12/15/17
Final Essays
Topic A. Hamlet s theme of hesitancy and action In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, Prince of
Denmark, the protagonist, Prince Hamlet, is summoned by the ghost of his father to seek revenge
for his murder. Hamlet struggles to avenge his father s death as he is a complex character that is
more analytical and introspective, which is apparent through the first person narrated soliloquys. As
the play progresses, Hamlet s inability to act adds a great weight and pressure upon his shoulders
as he wants to do right by his father as a noble son, yet he struggles to follow through. Eventually,
Hamlet does kill Claudius but as a result of his hesitancy several additional lives are lost. In the
revenge tragedy Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, William Shakespeare develops the theme of
hesitancy through Hamlet s primary dilemma of avenging his father s murder. When Hamlet is
first summoned by the ghost to kill Claudius, Hamlet seems eager and determined. When the
ghost calls for him to, Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder (I.v.25), Hamlet exclaims,
Haste me to know t, that I, with wings as swift/As meditation or the thoughts of love/May sweep
to my revenge (I.v.29 31). When Hamlet talks to the ghost, he initially seems determined and
ready to act, but with time to think Hamlet loses his motivation. Hamlet questions whether the
ghost is truly his father s spirit. The importance of religion to Hamlet is apparent in his
hesitation over the authenticity of the ghost. Protestants at this time, such as Hamlet, questioned
the reality of ghosts as they believed they were the devil in disguise. In his Act II, scene II
soliloquy, Hamlet expresses his concern over the reality of the ghost when he states, ...The spirit
that I have seen/May be the devil: and the devil hath power/T assume a pleasing shape (II.ii.540
42). The power of God delays Hamlet s action, as he doesn t want to unjustly kill a person.
Another cause for Hamlet s delay is that he wants proof of Claudius s guilt. Hamlet is distraught
over the fact that his mother remarried so soon following her husband s death, especially to her
husband s brother. In the Act I, scene II soliloquy, Hamlet states that

What Is Ethics in Business
What is Ethics in Business?
In general, personal ethics can be described as the moral guidelines each of us uses in our daily
lives. It is these guidelines which govern how we behave including how we speak and act
towards others in our everyday interactions no matter if they are face to face, by way of telephone
or in writing. Much the same can be said for ethics in business. Business ethics are the moral
philosophies and written rules of conduct which govern how the business treats not only its own
employees but also how the business handles its daily dealings in everything ranging from
bookkeeping and accounting to advertising and customer relations. Our text for this class, Marketing
, The Core describes ethics as the moral principles and values that govern the actions and decisions
of an individual or group (pg.69), and refers to ethical business practices many times throughout the
book.
Business ethics rely on the moral values of both individuals and groups of individuals since in
many cases, decisions which can affect the business can be, and are made by both. Company
officers, managers, management teams, supervisors and employees alike all routinely make
decisions on a daily basis, which can have a profound effect on many facets of a company
including overall production, employee morale and even internal or public image. Typically a
company will establish a moral identity over a period of time, and employees that come and go
from the business over its lifetime are

This mate selection compares with socially monogamous mammals. However, monogamy
behaviours were not found in experimental laboratory species such as rats and mice. However,
pair bonding in monogamous species has been associated with prairie voles(Carter, DeVries Getz,
1995). Identifying maternal bonding from pair bonding by blocking oxytocin receptors that inhibit
maternal bonding in female prairie voles found that maternal bond inhibits partner preference and
pair bonding (Carter, DeVries Getz, 1995; Stoop, 2012). Identifying high levels of oxytocin in the
prefrontal cortex and the nucleus accumbens in the prairie vole, suggests that neuropeptides
influence the pathways that are involved in reward (Stoop, 2012) and reinforcement, therefore,
control the process of social information. Increased levels of vasopressin increased bonding in
voles(Carter, DeVries Getz, 1995). Blocking of vasopressin receptor V1aR in voles showed a
reduced time in social interaction. However, blocking V1aR in mice had a severe social impairment
as they showed no general recollection of previous interaction with other mice. These experiments
give reason to suggest that there are distinct roles for oxytocin and vasopressin between species,
implying that genetic variation and vasopressin influences social behaviours, combined with

Socrates As A Wise Man
Nowadays the word wisdom is an influential quality to possess as society accepts and review

if we rewind time, the same acceptance for a famous philosopher that we consider today, was not in
high paised. A man of the name Socrateswas defined as a wise character by the oracle of Delphi. At
time of now we deem Socrates as a man who challenge the concept of philosophy. As Socrates
encounters the true meaning of wisdom he came upon his death penalty for spreading his
interpretations.A man that ought to be admire for the way he glance the world, was rejected by
society for reasons that was irrelevant to his purpose.
Socrates would spend his quality time in the village questioning anyone about practically anything
to gain knowledge for both parties. As he knew that the Oracle of Delphi defined him as a wise
person he did not consider himself wise, so he went on a quest to find wisdom. He practice a
socratic method while discussing with Athenians. The method describes a formal conversation
between person A and person B, as person A discuss the meaning of a concept, person B continues
to ask questions to prove that person A s interpretation is not valid. The method is a realization for
person A to notice the failure of the answer he provided. An example from The Consolations of

It s The Middle Of Summer
We re back! Kashino said as both of them took of their shoes and hurried into the apartment. Oh,
Hanabasa, they re back. Andou said as he peered around the corner. Nice timing. Hanabasa said
standing at the sink washing his hands. What did you buy? He asked. Ichigo smiled at him as
she held up the bag. They set the bag on the table and unpacked the food. Some how Ichigo and
Kashino had managed to buy tons of food that was all unrelated to one another in every way
possible. Um... Andou and Hanabasa said staring down at the food. This is? Hoping to get a
logical explaination from one of them for the messs pilled infront of them. It was Amano s idea.
Kashino said. She thoughtwe could have nabe. They all stared at each other for a while. But Maa
kun... Andou started. It s the middle of summer. Everyone thought about that for a very long
time. Ichigo looked at the two gaunt looking boys before them. You can still have nabe in the
middle of summer right? Theres no real rule against it. The three princes watched as their
princess beemed with excitment. They had lost this battle. Actually it could be a really good idea.
Hanabasa said puting his finger to his forehead. Who knows? He said. Alright then! Ichigo said
slamming her hands down on the table. Bring out the kotatsu! She announced as she took her
battle stance. Everyones jaw dropped when they realized she was serious. No, I think we ll pass on
that. All the boys said. It would definitally

The Decade Known as The Great Depression
The decade known as the Great Depression was an era filled with both hardship and tribulation.
Historians continue to debate the root causes of the collapse of the stock market which led the
country into depression. Other deride the ineptitude of the Canadian government s response to the
crisis. At any rate, the Dirty Thirties was a period of time unlike any other. While those who
suffered through it are largely gone, the memory of those dark days remains to this day.
Firstly, there are many factors that contributed to making the Great Depression start. Over
production and expansion was a problem because almost every industry was expanding in the 1920
s. Industries made products quickly that weren t selling and in order to slow down ... Show more

All the ranks on the social class had dropped. The poor became poorer than the poor. Finding
work was sporadic at best and it was impossible for men to pay for their homes which led to
people having to move into their cars, piano boxes and anything they could possibly find shelter
in. The Great Depression got farmers the worst as severe dust storms hit the prairies. Temperature
raised immensely in 1936 making wind storms hotter and drier, and with no rain there was no
crops. Western prairies became almost completely dependent on the export of wheat but grass
hoppers and plant diseases cause the last few crops destroyed. Farmers had to sell their farms as
debts raised because they couldn t afford their families as the drought prolonged. The school boards
had to decrease the number of teachers and increase the amount of students. Even marriage was
effected, while Canada experienced the Great Depression, many couples refrained from marrying
due to economic uncertainty and high unemployment. These causes of the Depression impacted the
everyday Canadian.
Moreover, the Canadian government took many measures to pull Canada out of the Depression
they tried, monthly relief rates, vouchers, governments money, relief camps, buying Canadian,
make work projects and tariffs. Monthly relief rates were when people would have to go to a
welfare office to prove that they were unemployed too get a certain amount of money

The And Considerations Behind The Creation Of Our Group...
This essay will discuss the reasons, choices and considerations behind the creation of our group
newsletter, Manaakitanga. It will involve relevant theories to support my following reflective essay,
including research on document design and group dynamics.
The rationale of our Manaakitanga newsletter is for all members across the twenty one branches of
Hospitality New Zealand, informing them about new topics, and sharing the most recent and latest
news within Hospitality NZ (New Zealand) for the employees to read. Manaakitanga is an internal
newsletter for employees, sharing the changes, achievements, the news and events that have a
broader appeal, keeping the interest alive for the readers (Kent, 2011).
First of all the content of Manaakitanga involves an interview, Early morning starts on a winning
streak , secondly an article on What is coming up in the summer months , thirdly a spotlight story
on one of Christchurch s most popular restaurants, and last of all a story on New Zealand s
drinking culture and a calendar of events highlighting important up coming courses and events for
employees to attend to.
The interview featured on page four of Manaakitanga is significant to Hospitality NZ because as
we know the Rugby World Cup is occurring at the moment and The Sale and Supply of Alcohol
Amendment Act 2015 are allowing on license and club license holders to open outside of their
normal opening hours to screen live Rugby World Cup games. Many of the rugby games are

Professional Sports Salary Cap Analysis
Do you know why the salary cap is crucial to a well functioning organization? All professional
sport organizations should be required to have a salary cap, it prevents owners from wasting their
money on players, the salary cap keeps the league fair and competitive, the salary cap also helps
the leagues and teams make money. The leagues without a salary cap often face difficulties and
financial hardships.
The salary cap prevents the wasting and frivolous spending of money. The Detroit Tigersstar third
baseman, Miguel Cabrera signed a 300 million dollar contract for the next 10 years (Pagels). His
contract is for $30 million until he is 41 years old. While he is at the top of his game right now, it
is unlikely that he will continue to perform ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The MLB payroll usually has a huge gap between the top spender and bottom spender which
makes it uncompetitive. The Los Angeles Dodgers payroll was 234 million and the Miami
Marlins payroll was 65 million in 2015 that being a difference of 169 million (Blum). With the
huge gap in pay reflects in the quality of play. In 2013 Alex Rodriguezwas paid 29 million in 2013
that is 4 million more than the entire Astros roster. That is not fair at all because if a single
player is deemed better than a whole team how can it be expected to be a competitive game.
Having a salary cap allows for the stardom of new and upcoming teams. Before 1994 the NFL
was often dominated by 4 to 5 teams now after they have implemented the salary cap and other
teams have emerged and became dominant and they have even won championships. Studies show
that in most cases that money spent relates to the amount of regular season wins a team has.
Therefore if there was a salary cap in every sport it would be much more

The Renaissance Era brought back an interest in classical learning and values of ancient Greece and Rome. While the Renaissance brought back classical learning and values, it brought with it addition. Addiction is described as a compulsive need for and use of a habit forming substance characterized by tolerance and by well defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal. (https://www.merriam webster.com /dictionary/addiction) One drug that caused addiction during the RenaissanceEra was opium. Another cause of addiction during the Renaissance Era is the lead based make up. Lastly, alcoholism was another source of addiction that plagued the people of the Renaissance Era. This essay will be used to discuss how these addictions began, their probable outcome, health issues related to these addictions, and how we treat these addictions today. First, the origin of Opium within the Renaissance Era will be discussed. Not necessarily a beach but more like a tropical rainforest. My reasoning is that there are so many different things that go into the functioning of a tropical rainforest, and there are still plants and animals that haven t even been discovered yet. As this ecosystem is one of the oldest ecosystems in the world many can believe this to be true. Although there may be some plants and animals that have not been discovered, tropical rainforests hold the largest variety of plants and animals on Earth. Tropical rainforests have many plants and animals in them, and in order for this ecosystem all of these organisms need to work together to survive together. An ecosystem this large and so diverse, organisms need to be able to adapt so they can survive. As many people know, tropical rainforests usually have very large tall trees. This is because the foliage is in competition with each other, trying to get the most sun light. With rainforestonly covering about 6% of the Earths land, they account for around 40% of the oxygen on Earth. Many animals have adapted as well, many monkeys have prehensile tails that are strong enough to swing from branches and even hang on. Why did the Cold War begin? In 1947, the Cold War began and it was due to various reasons. Some historians believed that the bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused the Cold War. In addition, the United States president during 1945 (Harry S. When the Second World War ended, the USSR still had troops in Eastern Europe this allowed the USSR to help the communist parties rise to power thus assimilating them into the Soviet Union Army.4 This buffer zone was later be known as the Iron Curtain (Soviet Army). Luzniak Mr. Deeb U.S. History 1A 5 May, 2015 Significance and Impact of the Emancipation Proclamation Abraham Lincoln once said, A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure permanently half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved I do not expect the house to fall but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other. (Lincoln s House Divided Speech in Springfield, Illinois, June 16, 1858). The critical issue of slavery throughout the 19th century in America, was a heavily debated topic. Due to this disagreement of the bondage of slaves, America was split into two distinct entities, the Union and the Confederacy. Both of these bodies of states struggled over the idea of slavery, and whether or not it should be enforced, but both for different reasons. In the North, or the Union States, slavery was looked down upon being morally wrong, while on the other hand, the Southerners, or the Confederate States, believed the exact opposite. In the year of 1863, the issue of slavery would start to diminish due to a very important proclamation issued by President Abraham Lincoln. This prominent decree, the Emancipation Proclamation, would settle the heated dispute between the Union and the Confederacy for all years to come. As early as ancient Athens, we have seen records of how failure is seen from time to time and society to society. Just them as a comparative to our society recognizes the cultural difference as well as the time gap between how we perceive defeat. For instance, Athens used plays to communicate that failing at something was okay and that we needed to show sympathy and helpfulness to those going through a rough time. Whereas today, as seen in many cases, dropping out of something, or even not succeeding is failure; you must do well in something to be respected. In the three sources presented, recordly, this is the case. Each source reviewed and discussed the art of failing as something more than just one mistake, that it is many complied onto each other causing, as we see it, catastrophe. In all three sources, they discusses successand failure seen in today s society, which were then analyzed through agreement/overlap and disagreement. To begin, all three sources overlap/agree with the same message, that failure is common, but not accepted. They all suggest that we should learn to become acquainted with it. The more you recognize what you re not good at and fix it (whether it be dropping it or applying a method) the faster you can find things you are good at. The author of The Acts of Thecla has a contrasting view of women in Christianity when compared to other Christians in the first two centuries of the Common Era. The examples of stratification were shown by both gangs and the individuals that the gangs were compromised of. The purpose of this paper is to analyze these examples of social classand privilege, status, parties, and power, as described by Max Weber, and how they exemplified in the film Gangs of New York. Some scientists have suggested that gender identity is permeable within the first 18 months so that the intersexuality of their bodies can be addressed, while others suggest that identity is fluid throughout childhood until puberty, when the body changes caused will cement their gender identity. The process of acquiring a gender identity is simple within this framework. Because it is solely focused on biology, the identity is assigned based on which side of the gender binary it is closest to and that is all the nuance available. Later perspectives take this and define it as the biological sex, which they then separate from gender. However, this process is similar throughout all the perspectives for people who are cisgender, because they have no need for the further nuance that other perspectives can provide. In the beginning, Sara was not able to make her own choices. A good example of this is when Sara trusts a customer to pay her back later, but the father frowns on Sara trusting a customer to pay back two cents. He implies her dependence to him by stating Without asking me? I m the one to decide who is to be trusted (Yezierska 134). The quote emphasizes the Father s authority over Sara, as well as her dependence on him. To further explain, when he says the phrase: I m the one to decide ... he clearly states that it was him that makes any choices in the store, rather than Sara. A smaller, but significant example of Sara being financially dependent on her father is when her father doesn t give Sara her earned money for herself. Sara states And yet, when I d bring home the wages to Father, he d never let me have money to buy something I needed (Yezierska 89). • 37. Theme Of Hesitancy In Hamlet Rebecca Kallios 12/15/17 Final Essays Topic A. Hamlet s theme of hesitancy and action In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, the protagonist, Prince Hamlet, is summoned by the ghost of his father to seek revenge for his murder. Hamlet struggles to avenge his father s death as he is a complex character that is more analytical and introspective, which is apparent through the first person narrated soliloquys. As the play progresses, Hamlet s inability to act adds a great weight and pressure upon his shoulders as he wants to do right by his father as a noble son, yet he struggles to follow through. Eventually, Hamlet does kill Claudius but as a result of his hesitancy several additional lives are lost. In the revenge tragedy Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, William Shakespeare develops the theme of hesitancy through Hamlet s primary dilemma of avenging his father s murder. When Hamlet is first summoned by the ghost to kill Claudius, Hamlet seems eager and determined. When the ghost calls for him to, Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder (I.v.25), Hamlet exclaims, Haste me to know t, that I, with wings as swift/As meditation or the thoughts of love/May sweep to my revenge (I.v.29 31). When Hamlet talks to the ghost, he initially seems determined and ready to act, but with time to think Hamlet loses his motivation. Hamlet questions whether the ghost is truly his father s spirit. The importance of religion to Hamlet is apparent in his hesitation over the authenticity of the ghost. Protestants at this time, such as Hamlet, questioned the reality of ghosts as they believed they were the devil in disguise. In his Act II, scene II soliloquy, Hamlet expresses his concern over the reality of the ghost when he states, ...The spirit that I have seen/May be the devil: and the devil hath power/T assume a pleasing shape (II.ii.540 42). The power of God delays Hamlet s action, as he doesn t want to unjustly kill a person. Another cause for Hamlet s delay is that he wants proof of Claudius s guilt. It is these guidelines which govern how we behave including how we speak and act towards others in our everyday interactions no matter if they are face to face, by way of telephone or in writing. Much the same can be said for ethics in business. Business ethics are the moral philosophies and written rules of conduct which govern how the business treats not only its own employees but also how the business handles its daily dealings in everything ranging from bookkeeping and accounting to advertising and customer relations. Our text for this class, Marketing , The Core describes ethics as the moral principles and values that govern the actions and decisions of an individual or group (pg.69), and refers to ethical business practices many times throughout the book. Identifying maternal bonding from pair bonding by blocking oxytocin receptors that inhibit maternal bonding in female prairie voles found that maternal bond inhibits partner preference and pair bonding (Carter, DeVries Getz, 1995; Stoop, 2012). Identifying high levels of oxytocin in the prefrontal cortex and the nucleus accumbens in the prairie vole, suggests that neuropeptides influence the pathways that are involved in reward (Stoop, 2012) and reinforcement, therefore, control the process of social information. Increased levels of vasopressin increased bonding in voles(Carter, DeVries Getz, 1995). Blocking of vasopressin receptor V1aR in voles showed a reduced time in social interaction.
